WISH team, please unite!

Our lovely Tiger Lily's DH will be undergoing hip replacement surgery today around midday. This is his second time, so they both kindof know what to expect...does that make it better or worse? :confused3 At any rate, they both need all the prayers and pixie dust we can send!

I hope everything goes perfectly Lily. I can say my Great Grandma, who is 102, broke her hip and needed a replacement. She is stubborn and started taking steps with assistance 9 days after the surgery and hasn't looked back. I hope the same pixie dust pixiedust:works for your husband.

:grouphug: Thank you everyone for all your prayers, kind words and support. It worked! Surgery did go well. By surgery day I was having a difficult enough time just trying to breathe. I felt so helpless for Ted. We jammed a lot of last minute togetherness and business most of the weekend and Monday. By the time Monday came about he was really in a lot of discomfort and the surgery could not come quick enough. It's like it went downhill so fast it became uncontrollable and caused me more worry. (Doc said that this does happen sometimes, but I didn't know that and it all contributed to my distress.)

DS#2 was with me during the waiting time. We left the house at 6:30 a.m. to be at the hosp for 7:00. Surgery was to be at 9:00. They originally had it scheduled for noon, but were able to move it up. He was taken into surgery at 9:30. We didn't hear from doc until 2:30. It was getting a little tense for me, but the doc told us not to worry if it was longer than we expected. We didn't get to see Ted in the room until about 4:15 so it WAS a long day. We stayed for a few hours; it seemed like Ted was being well cared for and I felt ok about leaving. DS#1 came after he got off work. Ted lost a lot of blood during surgery and that was not expected. They had transfused him with his own blood that was collected from surgery time to when we first got to see him via a collection bag. A process of recovery and reuse--medical term not stuck in my mind. He was having problems with his eyes when we left. Whew.

Today, One day later and it is a miracle!

Ted is doing well, so well in fact that the doc may let him go home Friday. Before surgery we figured maybe Saturday he could come home. He's doing so much better than we could imagine and it looks like he will not need to go to rehab step down unit as we expected either. He will get PT that we will have to go to after he's home. Not sure when that will start exactly. He was up at 4:00 a.m. sitting in the chair and when I got there he was impressing everyone in that he was already able to get in and out of bed and use the walker. He said he does not have pain. That amazes everyone. He's tired and that is normal. He is the man! Whether there is another walking event in his future, that is TBD. He was hoping that this surgery may allow for something like a Bingham, Penguin pace event some day.

A side note, his roommate had spinal fusion Monday--his second one. I feel so bad looking at him and his difficulty in getting around. He is in a great deal of pain and I hurt looking at him. I think of Sunny when I was watching him. Sunny, you are a miracle.
