We were in HH last June and had a blast crabbing!!!! Guests and CMs alike were SO helpful. We bought crab nets for I think $5. You can buy shrimp at the resort, but many people use raw chicken. (keep those hands scrubbed!!!!) There were a few rules.. the shell from point to point must be 5 1/2 inches and we could only keep males!!! DOUBLE CHECk....I think that is right!!!

We were hit and miss until the last day. DSs (11 and 12) were catching them left and right and they were BIG. News spread and CMs came down the pier to see our catch and with a bigger bucket for us to use! They also let us borrow a kettle to cook them in....yummy!!!!! We are going to Vero Beach in a few weeks and we often said how we will miss crabbing this summer.

Have fun!!!!!!

I believe the females have a triangle marking on their undersides.

The males have the Washington Monument (looks like that anyway ;) ) on thier bellies. The tricky part is picking them up to look at their bellies!!!!

I live in SC and the lack of water has affected the crabs this year according to the news reports. Commercial crabbers have even pulled up their traps and gone elsewhere to find their catch. So do not compare the amount of crabs this year with previous ones.
