Welcome to 'Ohana's thread for recording miles and minutes. Our chat thread is here. (http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=2074209)

THE CHALLENGE (details subject to change)

What Counts in the Challenge
All exercise: running, walking, wogging, biking, swimming, skiing, cross-training, lifting weights, yoga, Pilates, chasing hotties…. If it raises your heart rate, it counts! If an activity can reasonably be calculated in terms of distance, keep track of both miles and hours/minutes. If not, it still counts for hours/minutes. A reminder: all events count as double mileage (not time)!

Reporting Miles and Hours/Minutes
This year’s challenge begins February 1st. We’re asking all members to keep track of their mileage and hours/minutes and report them to the thread or to captains regularly (weekly or monthly, your choice). We’ll publish the team’s monthly totals on the first post of the thread for our records and so that other teams can feel inspired (intimidated?) by our progress.

If any team member wants to publish their individual totals, place your miles and hours/minutes in your signature area. You can update those totals as often as you would like. Feel free to draw our attention to your many accomplishments, training strategies, any training challenges or injuries, questions, and of course upcoming events.

TWO WAYS TO REPORT NUMBERS
1) You can post them here to me, weekly or monthly. I'll add them to our team spreadsheet, which is available as a Google document.
2) You can post them yourself to the Google document if you so desire and have a Google account. The spreadsheet has spaces for daily input, so we can track our WOs in detail, which I really like. And we can all share duties on updating, see each other's accomplishments, and see our progress in detail over several months.

I don't have any preference for how any teammate reports their miles and minutes. I like the Google document, though, because it's easy to use and I can share it with all of you. We're very lucky that SuperGoof's Mike (laxdef69) created the spreadsheet and shared it with us. We all owe him a drink! :drinking1

Directions and image gleefully limited from the SuperGoofs Thread.

GOOGLE SPREADSHEET INSTRUCTIONS

Looks like the new process is:

1) Make a google account at :

http://documents.google.com/support/...n&answer=47597 (http://documents.google.com/support/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=47597)

Updated: Apparently, this step is no longer necessary--any valid email address will do.

2) PM me your email address.

Document link:

http://spreadsheets.google.com/ccc?key=p4hr132_17TR0VaNdEUjydw&hl=en

3) Pick the month at the bottom of the document.

4) Scroll down to the correct day of the month.

5) Find your name in ORANGE. Enter the distance in miles.

6) In the column to the right of your name in YELLOW, enter the minutes it took you to do the miles, or if there were no miles (like in Yoga, Pilates, mowing the lawn etc) enter the minutes you moved.

7) Do not modify any cells in BLUE...they are formula driven, and calculate your monthly, team weekly, team monthly and team YTD.

8) Do not download and upload the spreadsheet.

For the month of Feb:

42 miles
509 minutes (mostly running with a bit of yoga thrown in for fun :upsidedow )

I will look into the google spreadsheet thing, but right now all of those instructions are making my head hurt. Maybe when I have some quiet time I can figure it out, but quiet time in my house is hard to come by...

Hi Debra,

I wanted to post my own and make things easier for you, but the spreadsheet won't accept my data. (I am a registered user) If you can figure out why, I'd be happy to do it myself and save you some time here and there.
In any event, my totals for February are 49 miles; 15:15 time. I know I'm a slacker and if it weren't for XT I'd have pretty much nothing at all. Guess I need a whipping. :scared1:

Jeanne (and others),

Apparently, you need to PM me your email addresses so I can permit access. I thought I'd set it up differently, but I'm not the brightest penny to come off the presses. :confused3 :rotfl2:

I'll enter your numbers for now, Jeanne, and you can take care of March if you'd like.

Hey Team Ohana Just your lost little "Duckie" here wanting to congratulate you all on a fabulous February! I don't know if everyone has posted yet or not but having almost 1100 miles is great!! That kind of average will give you more than 12,000 miles for the year! Plus, you did that during one of the coldest months of the competition. Keep it up gang!! (And I know you will!)

To all of my Princesses I know there are some that are getting ready to head down to WDW for the race this weekend. I want you all to have fun, be safe and know that I am cheering for all of you!!

Here's to an incredible March!:cheer2: :grouphug:

That includes double mileage for the Princess half. It looks like alot, but most of it was on the spin bike. I'll try to post it myself and make things easier for Deb. If it works the same as last year, I may have to split it up because the program couldn't handle more than 24 hours for a single entry.

Just wanted to report that you can put it all in one space this year.......but you have to convert it to minutes! I had 1,585 minutes for the month. Our cummulative totals are going to be HUGE....what happened to the built-in calculator that converted minutes to decimal hours?

Updated to here, before I go out for a run!

Jeanne: The conversion into hours: minutes: seconds is on the monthly team total page (first page). Check it out! Mike (Laxdef69) created and shared his spreadsheet with us, and other teams, and the format is quite a bit different than last year's, I think.

So far, we're at 998 miles and counting, and 189:03 and counting, with more than 1/2 our cousins yet to report in! :cheer2:

All right - here is what I've got. This is the total of my one good week of training before I got sick, a few sickish workouts and two after we got home from the trip. I am also counting the hours of activity and some of the miles from Disney as based on the pedometer and activity readings of my GoWearFit. And my personal feeling that I really was "working it" those days. If anyone deems this inappropriate, I also have the non-Disney miles and minutes totaled up separately.

With Disney:
37.4 miles
1229 minutes

Without Disney:
25.4 miles
475 minutes

Congratulations to everyone doing races in March! Your numbers are really racking up, and you're all making progress toward your goals! :thumbsup2

Corinna: I took your Disney numbers, feeling that you went into the trip prepared to log moderate activity. (Your non-weight gain/weight loss showed it, too!)

Oh No! We're supposed to keep track of miles? I'll start this month ;) Do bike miles count? My son has become both really good at biking and really enthused so I'm racking up way more bike miles than foot miles. Somehow I need to figure out how to do both.

I posted on the race report thread about my first 5K:

I did my first "PF" 5K yesterday. (PF = Post (spinal) Fusion). This was my first race after 5 spine surgeries. I was in a class of my own. I lined up at the back of the runners and the front of the walkers. About half a mile into the race the runners had long since left me behind but I had left the walkers behind and I was running all alone! I caught up to the back of the runner's pack somewhere in mile 2. I don't know my placing. I came close to the coveted DLF for the runners. My time was... Oh who cares about time... ok, 40:28. I'm just so happy I finished! Now I officially feel like a runner again!

Sorry for being so late reporting in. Things have been pretty hectic.

For April, I only had 11 hours, 17 minutes, and no miles.

My workouts have fallen off as we've learned that we are going to move back to Ohio. We've loved it in SC, but I was offered a position in Ohio that I couldn't turn down, although we seriously thought about it. Now we are getting the house ready to put on the market, and start the whole relocation process again. :rolleyes1

April (ahem. And sadly lacking because my analog record is MIA - this is Garmin only.):

29.92 miles (includes doubled 10K miles from April 26)
310 minutes

May:

46.68 miles (includes doubled 5K races on May 4 and 29)
512 minutes

June:

56.38 Miles (No races in June, apparently??)
780 minutes

Sorry again about the lengthly delay and lack of tracking XT minutes. :sad2:

Not a problem about either. I'm just glad to see you back on this side of the WISH boards. I know I see you on FB, but I miss seeing you here. Your presence always adds lots to the team.

It's been a race-heavy month. I have 19.3 miles from "race double miles." I've also been going to an hour long core training class on Tuesdays and Thursdays which ramps up my minutes a little, too! I did not count the 2 mile walks to and from the dog beach.

Hi Debra -

Sorry I don't have my hours/miles to post. I'm at WDW now :woohoo: and my log with my data is at home. I'll post my July numbers when I post my August numbers. Hope that's ok.:upsidedow

Sorry I've been MIA for so long, but we completed our move back up to Ohio. We moved into our house on 7/31, and are still slowly unpacking boxes and trying to get some order to things. I'm working back into a workout schedule, so my August numbers are substantially better than my June or July numbers...

Speaking of which, it looks like I failed to report my July numbers (not that they're anything to be proud of).

For July, I had 242 minutes, and 16.3 miles.

personally, the toughest 2 miles were ones I didn't even count-- biking to the park with a very tired DD6, trying to bike slow enough to stay behind her but keep enough momentum to not fall over on the bike

Thanks, I assumed so. It felt really good to double 59.5 miles to 119 miles!
You'll get used to using the Garmin and bringing forward your numbers. i really liked how the Garmin unit stores so much info when I updated my computer last year and it still had all my historical info in it. Also the numbers geek in me comes out when I get to examine all the details in it as I do the computer download, which I have set up to auto lap each mile. Sometimes I can spend 20 minutes analyzing a 30 minute run.

Hello cousins, sorry to be so late, but life is a little crazy right now.:upsidedow

Here's my data for September:
130.3 miles (double for the DL half); 27:24 hrs:min

Now that I am doing more long walks I am spending less time on the spin bike and so my overall mileage has gone down even though my pedestrian miles are up.

Richard, I envy the way you are able to use your Garmin to analyse your progress. I am a numbers person also and would love to be able to use my Garmin the way it was intended and not just as a pedometer with a stopwatch. One of these days I will sit down with the manual and figure out how to do it. I'm just a little scared of anything that has to do with technology! :confused3
