So, my "one photography related purchase for the year" has come earlier than anticipated. :rotfl2: After only 4 short months....

I just sold my D60 and put in an order through Amazon for a brand spankin new D90! :hyper:

If all goes as planned, I'll have it by this weekend and have loads of learning/reading/new shooting to do.

I bought the D60 because at the time it fit the budget and I wanted to be 100% sure that I would stick with this hobby before getting something a little newer and that time has come. I think it's fair to say that in the past 4 months, the money I have sunk into this hobby has solidified the fact that it's something I would like to continue doing...and if not, DH will make sure I'm not alive much longer. ;) :rotfl:

EDIT: It's here and so pretty, I love the little screen up top that I can see the settings on instead of looking at the LCD. I have it charging right now but didn't bring a lens with me to work, so no shots on lunch and probably no shots after work because I convinced DH that we needed to go to the gym tonight. :headache: I'll definitely be testing it out this weekend though :thumbsup2

Congrats!!! Hope to see some pics by next week from the new addition. I know every minute I can spare I have been trying to learn the D300 I just purchased after upgrading from the D40. I spent the day today on and around the Gettysburg Battlefield trying to learn some things. I learned today that I want to get a wide angle lens. :rotfl:

I figured, with DH's permission and having only lost $75 on the purchase of the D60, it was the perfect time (aka tax return time!) to make the leap. :lmao:

Isn't it always when you really want something it won't come on time? I want it by this weekend and it won't get here, but I guarantee if I ordered new pillowcases today they'd be here Tuesday.

I can't wait to get started. I have a long weekend in DC planned for the first weekend of April so I need to have learned the basics + some by then. :scared1:

While I was at the gym this morning, I couldn't help but have a fleeting thought of "I wonder if there are any wrist exercise machines." Needless to say I laughed out loud about this and looked like a complete weirdo, but what's new??

Oh, wow! Congratulations! You're going to have a great time with that camera in December! To whom did you sell the D60? I'll tell ya, if I could sell my D80 for a somewhat reasonable price, I'd be jumping at a new camera (prolly a D300)
Really looking forward to your pics with the new baby.....

I ended up selling it to a family member who was tossing around the idea of switching from her film SLR to a digital, but I also listed it on Nikonians.org and had two offers within 4 days for exactly what I was asking. If it wasn't for the fact that I'd have to figure out how to use PayPal, I'd have sold it to one of them. :goodvibes There are lots of D80 bodies---it never hurts to list it and see what you might end up with!

This tax return was an unexpected surprise. It's not huge, but it made up the $200 gap that was keeping me from getting the D80 when I made my first dSLR purchase in September and I'm happy that I waited because I ended up with the D90 instead.

If it wasn't for the fact that I'd have to get all new lenses, who knows...maybe another 6 months. ;) :lmao:

You have now fallen into a hobby where there's a" BIG BLACK HOLE" that consumes alot of money and time. It's KINDA kozy in here!!! I just don't like the fact that I can still hear my wife yelling at me down here!!!

Congrats

I know what you mean, it's been an expensive hobby over the past few months...but a rewarding one. Luckily DH has been pretty understanding thus far, but my luck could run out any day now :rotfl2:

Congratulation Ann! You are really going to love it. I have had mine for a little over 2 weeks and I am finally getting the hang of it. Keep reading the manual while your waiting for the big brown truck. Can't wait to see your pictures.

Fastest upgrade ever? Maybe but not by much. ;) I got a D80 in 7/07 then went to a D300 in 11/07 and then to a D700 in 8/08. But of course I blame Nikon for their release dates. And don't even get me started on lenses. :rolleyes1

Enjoy your new camera by the way. :)

I couldn't agree more with the comment above, but congrats on your D90!

I'm wanting to upgrade to the 5D MKII, but can't justify it because my 40D isn't even a year old!

Oh trust me, you and all of the other D90 users will know when it has arrived when I switch into full panic mode because everything is SO DIFFERENT! :rotfl:

Fr what it's worth, it'll be here tomorrow. :woohoo: I splurged and got the 2 day delivery instead of the usual "slow as snails" free delivery Amazon offers. :goodvibes

I just knew that if I went with the free shipping, it would be the one time it took over a week to get here and I really wanted to have it to fiddle around with this weekend.

I hope it wasn't shipped by UPS. They just went on strike in New Jersey. Major delays!!! Just kidding.

If it wasn't for the fact that I was already chatting with the UPS man here at work today (and since they are also a client at our law-firm)....I would have just passed out while reading this, since it is shipped with UPS. Nice try!!

So..................

IT's HERE! :cool1: I won't be able to take any pics of it because I no longer have another camera to use other than my P&S (and I'm sure everyone knows what it looks like anyway). I'm very excited. We might be taking a trip to Ocean City this weekend and if we do, I'm going to take it out to the Boardwalk to get some shots. We'll see.

I'm really disappointed I didn't bring a lens to work. I was thinking about it, but UPS usually isn't here until 4:30pm or so and I'd be leaving at 5:30. I'm kicking myself in the pants now. It's 60+ degrees here today, it would have been the perfect day to walk around outside on lunch with it.

HA! I was actually considering feeling "sick" and needing to leave for the afternoon. I would SOOOO run home on lunch, but I live an hour from my work---so that'd be a very long break. :lmao:

I know how you feel though. The day before mine showed up I had stopped by Costco and grabbed a couple of Extreme III cards so I was ready to take pictures when it arrived. Much to my dismay when I got home from work and went to put in the card I discovered that I had picked up CF cards instead of SD's :scared1: It was a long wait till the next day to get the correct card. Have fun tonight!

I would have. It takes about 2.5 hours to fully charge (according to the manual anyway) and I got the camera with the first UPS shipment of the day at 10:00am. :thumbsup2
