I know people are saying how much closer the western caribbean than the eastern. Does any one know what distance is really? I curious to see how far the western caribbean is. Also is the western caribbean seem as tropicle as the eastern?

I am quite curious too if the western will seem as exotic and tropical being closer to home, when we did the eastern I think it was around 1000 nautical miles-not sure why that number sticks out in my head, I think that was each way but I probably am totaly wrong. Ann

I have cruised western routes on other cruise lines and my opinion is that it is just as tropical. Mexico and St. Maarten are both dry climates and look about the same. True that St. Thomas has lush vegetation compared to either one of those ports. I prefer the look of the water on the western route and I am not a snorkel person I have been told by others that the best snorkeling is in the western Caribbean. Personnally, if I am on a cruise ship I am a happy cruiser whether it is east or west or even south, (which is also nice). Kathy
