Given our lack of jobs (and, thus, funding), we're not in a position to commit to anything this year, but I'm sure everything will go off with the usual aplomb! :teeth:

well despite last years washout (I still have visions of arriving at the field seeing Callum and Debs hanging on for dear life to that gazebo!) I will say its a yes from the Foys (and there may be one extra this year) I am a skinty skint person so haven't committed myself to any weekends away or holidays this year so as far as I can see any weekends good for me.
p.s. I can't commit to tenting it so other plans are afoot!

Spending as little as possible this year so we can pay for our 3 week deluxe WDW holiday at the end of the year so I think we'll have to pass and i'm not actually sure that Mike has recovered from last years yet, I think it was EuroDISion that sent him over the edge.

That July weekend is free for us at the moment.

Depending on whether we both still have jobs by then :sad2: and some spare cash we would definitely be up for it.

I will put it on our calendar so we don't double book

I have just spoken to the site, which has recently been taken over, and is undergoing a face list, the cost is 10.00 per tent per night, with electric, so basically 20.00 for the two nights, it doesnt matter if there are children, or just adults, the cost is the same ....

I thought it was very reasonable, some sites charge the extra for children, I think that Gilestone did last year, and then an extra charge for the electric, so not a bad price at all, I also forgot to ask does the 17th and 18th July suit those that are interested?

and no, its not an old style vw one, nor is it a new style with all mod cons, it is a VW T4 which we are converting, so at the moment its just a very well insulated and carpeted van!
still, it'll be dry and warm which is more than I can say for the rest of you :lmao:

we had our first night away in it (air bed in the back stylee) last weekend and again this weekend. Lee will be installing the bed and units soon though

I am starting to become a little concerned about the campsite, to be honest guys he sounds very sergeantish!! One of the comments has been if we break the rules he will throw us off at anytime, but he seems unwilling to share the rules, I am unsure what exactly would upset him. I did have a second choice up my sleeve, but I spoke to them today and they don't allow any music at all, not just at night, but during the day too - I cant imagine a campsite without a bit of music !!

ooh plans, we've not really done much planning have we, I can't believe its this weekend to be honest!!

I have a half day and Ian will be home at about 2.00, so I think we will probably be there between three and half past. I don't know what everyone else would like to do, but some music, food and catching up?

Saturday we have done the traditional Welsh Quiz, and I'm working on a Disney one, and of course Ians boat race, it sounds bizarre but when we were there last time, the group that were doing it made it look a lot of fun. The three pitches I have booked are right at the bottom of the site on the river, we have three with electric and he said not to bother booking a fourth, just to put the fourth tent up. Its 15 a night with electric, so 90 all together, I paid him a 10 a night deposit, so there is 60 left to pay - if you want to I will pay him the 60 when I get there, and then we can just sort it out later - let me know if that is ok with everyone.

There are no other plans other than much alcohol - so if anyone has anything they would like to throw into the mix??

So, we only have to pay for 3 pitches, but we're splitting the cost between the 4 parties? Have I got that right? I vote for you to pay and us to settle up with you later. Thanks, honey. :thumbsup2

We're currently making a list and checking it twice :teeth:. Food and equipment-wise, I know we're all just bringing our own. What do we need? Food-wise, breakfast for Saturday and Sunday, and barbecue stuff for Friday and Saturday, naturally. Is anyone going to bother taking anything for lunch on Saturday? We're going to buy a stove because we normally struggle to get everything cooked for everyone at the same time. We'll also bring our barbecue and, assuming you're bringing yours, Jules, that should be sufficient for all of us, shouldn't it? After cooking, we usually burn some logs to ward off the late-night chill. I think we normally get through two per night per barbecue (so 8 in total), in which case, can everyone bring 2 logs and one bag of barbecue fuel each (per party)?

What else?

natalielongstaff
07-13-2009, 12:45 PM
That seems reasonable to me Debs :thumbsup2

Tammy Stringer
07-13-2009, 12:56 PM
Sounds about right to me Deb. We probably won't bother taking food for Saturday lunch time - there is only so much barbecue food you can take in one weekend. I am sure we will find something nice to eat somewhere.

We will be taking our gas stove and will also bring a bag of barbecue fuel and 2 crackle logs as suggested

We don't finish work till 3.30pm Jules and Georgia doesn't get home from school till 3.45pm so can't see us leaving before 4pm - hopefully we will be there around 6.30pm - unfortunately we can't make it any earlier.

Can't wait to see the site Jules it looks lovely on the internet.

Looking forward to seeing everyone for GGG3

Tam

saratogagirl
07-13-2009, 01:06 PM
Yes, I thought we could split it four ways if that is cool with everyone.

As far as equipment goes, we will have the two tables, we will bring the fridge to keep everyones meat cold, the washing up bowl and squidgies, and the travel pots and pans, if anyone needs saucepans? I will get a bag of tealights (100) which will do us all for the weekend.

We will bring the standard bbq, Deb and Matt please don't buy a stove if its just for this weekend as we will bring ours, and also the gas bbq that we got, which we can use as a stove and a bbq, so we can use it to boil water and things as well as use it as a bbq (does that make sense), Nat the gas bbq will also be ideal when you get there if the children are hungry as we can get them something cooked quickly. I already have the crackle logs and will bring charcoal too. Will also bring the electric kettle for our coffees and washing up hot water.

I hadn't really thought about lunch on the Saturday, there is a Spar sort of shop just up the road in Talgarth which will be handy if we need to stock up on ice for the coolers, and will save us going into Brecon if we don't want to.

saratogagirl

Wine glasses is the most important thing Nat. You won't need a stove Nat, and there will be the bbq's going at night, plus the electric kettle for the important cuppas in the morning, we are right glampers with the leccy aren't we lol, it will be worth its wait in gold for music as well.

Matt - we will take the ipod speakers with us ...

I think we'll buy a stove anyway - it'll come in handy for future camping trips. We'll also bring an electric kettle so as not to tie up valuable stove space boiling water.

Weather forecast isn't too good at the moment :sad2:. Matt will be finishing work at 3pm, so we should be away from here around 3.30pm. Jules after my Dubrovnik "incident" methinks I should steer well clear of water and this sounds like the sort of thing I would definitely end up with an injury doing.:rotfl:

On the other hand we got home from work to find India's boat floating in the bath - so I must knuckle down and sort mine out - I have ordered the outboard motor and rudder just need to whittle down the tree trunk and I will be ready. No need for sails on my baby :thumbsup2

Also, how would you transport said plank?

I will get him to chop down a tree when we are there silly !!

You people really are over-thinking this whole boat thing.

My money is still on HMS Boddingtons to come up trumps. Right until the can fills with water and sinks that is.

Totally, totally understand, I wouldn't have wanted to drive that distance without Ian, and I was concerned for you. I am disappointed that we won't get to see you, but its really understandable the decision you have made - I only hope that we get to catch up soon

Sorry you won't be coming, Nat. It won't be a Ging Gang Gooley without you, but I wouldn't want to go along on my own, so I can understand why you've had second thoughts now that John can't make it.

I hope you all have a lovely weekend whatever you end up doing.

Nat I'm sorry you can't make it - but I totally understand too - there is no way I would drive all that way on my own.

Anyway it would have been great to catch up but hopefully we will see you at the end of August.

Have you got your knitting, Tam?

Joh I have decided to leave it at home - I am too busy planning my strategy for the boat race.

You may joke - but 3 girls who came with us to Glastonbury all took their knitting (they were knitting bunting) - I was so jealous that I couldn't join in :rotfl:

Had a fantastic weekend - we were so lucky with the weather - thank goodness.

Lots of brilliant quizzes from Jules and Ian, great prizes and the amazing GGG3 boat race.

Thanks to Jules and Ian for all their hard work and to everyone for making it such an enjoyable time.

I think Kev's idea was to post photos of the boats and to invite guesses as to which belonged to whom before posting photos of the race itself and the result. Inds has some mobile phone video footage, so maybe they're waiting to sort that out before posting. Or maybe they're just waiting for someone else to post. :teeth:
