Hello everyone!
For those new to us, we are a group of people who are planning to participate in walking/running events throughout the year. For most of us, the ultimate goal is to train and compete in the annual WDW Half/Full marathons. We'll also be posting news and training for various other events throughout the year. We range from beginners to triathletes. Come join us, whether you're training for an event or walking/running for fitness!
New WISH Team members. If you read one thing over and over, believe this. Being part of this team is fantastic. Part of the ride you get for the event is what I call the roller coaster. There will be lots of ups and downs. The more you post here, the more you will find yourself enjoying the ride. It is an incredible journey. Don't be afraid, shy or whatever to come here and just post up anything. You don't have to know us right away, or all of us at all. You will get to know some of us. It makes the event you are enjoying have MORE meaning and we love to have you.

I have nothing to report for today. I'm thinking I signed up for too many races too close together...just have training blahs since WDW.
Hope everyone's staying warm and motivated!

Mel, hang in there. Guess you didn't have time to go through the post-race blues before your next race. I kinda had that with my ING Miami Half as it was two weeks later.
Still hanging on to the sliver of my toenail, cut most of it off as i was worried it would get caught on something. Still not sure that it will just "fall" off. Tomorrow will be two weeks for it.
I have ten miles on tap for tomorrow as training continues for the Princess Half.
Have a good evening.......

You'll never guess who shops at the local Disney Store? Maya Sorento-Ng, and her daughter. Who's that you ask? President Barack Obama's sister.
We were at the mall last tonight, walking around. I stepped outside of the store and was waiting for my wife to get finished. The President's sister was no more than 8 feet away from me, and about go inside the Disney Store. I said hello to her, and she said hi back. Congratulated her on her brother, she said mahalo.
No Secret Service Agents around, just her and her daughter.
How cool was that?

Jeff - LOVED your video. Great job!
Nothing big to report for me. I'm getting in some short xt workouts just to maintain a semblance of fitness. Trying to organize life things so that come March 1st, my training can begin full-tilt with as few LTO issues as possible.

Hello my fellow WISH racing team friends!!
It is a beautiful Sunday here. Temps this AM were 66. Cloudy and nice little breeze.
I got up and out for my 10miles. Keeping up my "training" for the Princess Half coming up.
Was just out for an nice and easy walk and it went very well. First mile had a split of 15:55 and then last split was 14:13. Not too bad. I wanted to start off easy and finish stronger. Looks like it worked today.:thumbsup2
I tried the GU energy gel today in the Chocolate Outrage flavor. Was actually pretty good. I have been using the Cliff Shot Gels in the chocolate flavor. The GU energy gel is actually really good and just a bit better than the Cliff Shot. The texture of the GU was more like frosting, actually a bit "fluffier" than the Cliff Shot gel. The GU has caffeine. ThinkI will add this to my stock of stuff that I use.
Got back and did my ice bath and now onto do some laundry!!:laundy:
(still working on my video of photos from WDW weekend, hope to have it done within the next week or so.)
Have a good Sunday everyone.

Hellloooooo, team mates!
chimera/Mel, one foot in front of the other, kiddo. You can always just donate your registration fee!! Just don't OVER do, please. Rest is a very good thing, indeed! :thumbsup2
MindyLuvsMickey, congratulations on registering! The kids' races are on Friday and Saturday at 11, so depending on how you think you'll be feeling after 13.1 miles  ...That and getting over to WWoS where the races are held.
Terri, you've gotta plan..work the plan! :rotfl2: I'm just so glad for you that you are ABLE to work the plan!! ::yes::
I'm in training for the Country Music 1/2, so I/m upping the incline on the TM. Next week, I'll venture out into the real hills for my LW. At least I don't have to deal with snow!
I hope everyone stays healthy this week and gets those steps in!! :goodvibes Anne

Mel: Take care of yourself! I know you've got a lot on your plate these days, and hope you're not feeling too overwhelmed. WTO, LTO, multiple races, and all
Tracy: So, you're still in toenail countdown, are you? Hope you're not planning on keeping it as a warrior souvenir. Yech. :rotfl: Great job on the 10 miler. And did you say that the Gu is like frosting? Why doesn't anyone tell me these things? :confused3 It might change my whole fueling strategy! :rotfl2:
Aloha Jeff: What a cool celebrity sighting. You're kind of celebrity by association, then, right? Oh, no, I correct myself. You're a celebrity in your own right. "Aloha Jeff is real, people!" (And I bet Ms. Ducky is still celebrating that knowledge.)
Mindy: No answers on the kids' race and the 1/2, although I've heard of people doing it. But I really wanted to just say congrats for signing up!
Terri: "Semblance of fitness." :lmao: Describes my life to a T. What's your next event? My memory is sooooo bad.
As for me: I was a little MIA last week. Some deadlines to meet, writing to do, and then I got sucked into the vortex that was that Last-Minute Travel Promotion. Bah, humbug! I've managed to keep up with my SRs (3-5 miles) and generally working out--I'm really trying to concentrate on strength training for my back and core. I'd like rock-hard abs, but am afraid right they're more spongy right now. Like a Twinkie. Circuit-training today did nothing to disabuse me of this image.

Hello Wishers!
I went for a 6 miler yesterday. I tried out my new fuel belt and cliff blocks too. I was able to take my phone with me so I got some pictures:

and this is what happens when you don't start until 3:30:

I also tried to take last picture without slowing down too much and took my eyes off the path. I managed to walk right into a nice puddle. I was only about 1/4 mile from my car though.
So it is not as sunny and bright as Jeff's pictures, but just sharing my little part of the world.

Quick run by.
I cross trained today by going night reef walking for 3 hours in the Pacific Ocean. Marine Biology at it's finest. Saw lots of tropical fish, sea cucumbers, Spanish Dancer, sea slugs, hermit crabs, moray eel, etc.
We go to catch night tako (octopus) to use for bait when we go fishing during the summer. Usually we catch a handful or two, but alas, tonight I was the only one to catch one. This is about a 2-2 1/2 lb. tako. Note the one gallon ziplock bag it is sitting on.

Mindy Congrats for signing up for the race.
Debra Ah yes--Last Minute Travel. Boy, there were plenty of flaming posts out in the blogosphere about that promotion. Lots of people unhappy about how the rules seemed to change from day to day. I never did get anything, but gave up trying someehere aliong the way.
Megan Nice pictures--hope the run was fun and your new gear worked well.
Jeff One assumes the tako is going into the freezer?
Hello to everyone else.
I had a really low key weekend--once the water stopped dripping out of our ceiling fan. The downside of the warm weather was that the snow/ice on the roof melted--into our bedroom. No big deal though. Cleared a little ice off the roof and eventually it stopped.
Just weights for me today at the gym. And now, better get to work!

Jeff How lucky you are to be so close to a fantastic "cross training" experience such as that! Nothing cool here in south central PA . . . unless you count wading hip deep in a vat of freshly churned chocolate paste. I think it would quickly become a different type of experience for me . . . lol
trying to get motivated this morning. I have to drop DS off at preschool before I can get to the gym. On top of that, my grandmother is gravely ill. perhaps a nice long run will keep my mind off of things.

Mel -= I know how you feel about lack of motivation. 2 weeks ago, I was there. Howefver, i forced myself back into the routine last week adn it felt so good. Try it. Can't ebleiev teh gorgeous weatehr you go didn't motivate you. I am jealous.
Maura - SOrry abotu the roof. That stinks!
Debra - Hope life is better this week.
ANne - WTG on that TM incline. I still ahve only done incline like twice. So bad of me.
Had a great weekend. Scrapped marathon pix with funwalker tSaturday. My idea of heaven!!!!

Mel – Sorry to hear that you’re having the blahs.
Mindy – Yay for officially signing up for the race! I have no idea on the kids races, but I’m sure someone here does. I’m sorry to hear that your Grandmother is ill.
Tracy – Great job on the 10 miler. I’ve been hesitant to try the chocolate gu, but maybe I’ll pick one up and see what I think.
Debra – I need to strength train my core, too. My abs are beyond the twinkie stage and are pretty much just jello. You didn’t say – did you manage to get a room with the Last Minute Travel thing? I’m assuming not by the bah humbug. I only kept up with it for one day and gave up.
Megan – Loved the photos! It’s so neat to see where other folks are running.
Maura – Does the snow usually melt into your bedroom, or what that just a random thing? Eek!
Carrie – No fair talking about how you scrapped marathon photos and then not posting your work! We want to see!
Me - Just chugging along here, so not much to report. I took the baby and spent a couple of days visiting family this weekend, which was a nice change of scenery.

Tracy - thanks for the Gu review. I tried Gu a few years ago for biking and couldn't stand the texture, but chocolate orange sounds tempting. I'm anxious to try out Clif Bloks.
I started week 2 of C25K today. I could tell something had changed. I also realized I need to eat something when I get up. It shouldn't have been THAT hard. We'll see what Wednesday brings. I plan to keep eating my recalled salmonella tainted peanut butter Clif Bars. Wish me luck!
chimera - LTO = Life Takes (Took) Over Thanks for the explanation. I will use that one a lot.

ANd, after going through some of my previous marathon books, Margie suggest a scrapping thread and put some of my more creative layouts on tehre. Thre's only a few per book. Hey Team! I hit the gym again this morning for some elliptical and track running. We are in a major meltdown here and everything is glare ice or water. It's a mess.
Mel - Been there done that! Don't give up tho (you don't want to be where I was). I am coming back now and waiting to run with you again!!!
Carrie - Way to pound out the miles. I am amazed you are always ready for a 1/2!!
Debra - I didn't get a room at LMT either. I gave up because my life was more important. Plus, I heard there may be taxes involved. Ahhh well, just means I work harder to pay the normal price!

Driving by. Got in 3 miles with the new women's group I'm trying to run with. Ran out on the mountain again and yes, it hurt as much as it did last week. When I first got to the trail there was an ambulance and firetruck. Not a good sign. I thought maybe someone was trying to tell me something - like I'm too wimpy to run this again! Turns out an elderly woman was out walking the trail and fell and broke her arm or something like that. Hope she is OK!
Hope all my fellow WISHers are doing well! I'll try to catch up more tomorrow! :goodvibes

Megan: So did your new fuel belt work out for you. It looks like you were able to practice with your camera. :thumbsup2 And Valley Forge is beautiful--looks a little chilly, but beautiful nonetheless.
Aloha Jeff: Guess you got tired of taking the pretty pictures, huh? :rotfl2:
Maura: I'm sorry to hear about the leak. I hope it doesn't indicate something major down the line. How's the weight training going. (Btw, congrats on the spectacular speed work.)
Mindy: ...unless you count wading hip deep in a vat of freshly churned chocolate paste. I would definitely be down for that kind of XT experience. Yum, yum. I'll do most anything for chocolate, even chocolate paste. On the other hand, I'm sorry to hear about your DGM and am sending good thoughts your way.
Carrie: Your weekend sounds like a lot of fun. Add me to the list of people who want to see the results. Good job with your 8 run, especially because it was tough. You're one tough cookie yourself. (Did someone just say cookie?)
Ang: No room through LMT. I came so close a couple of times and that simply encouraged me to keep trying. Maybe you and I need to keep each other accountable on the core issues. ;)
Jen: You could choose your life over LMT because you HAVE a life. Me, I have cats. Plus, it was like pushing the elevator button. I had to wait out the ride. Obsessive, I know. Be careful out there with all the ice.
Ronda: Fueling is so very important, so I'm glad you figured out early your need to eat before your runs.
Anne: I just love seeing you post here! :goodvibes
Shan: What's the goal of your women's running group--a particular race? Camaraderie? Just conquering the mountain (and what mountain is that?)
As for me: I had a stonker of a run today...accepted I was going to finish by walking about 75% of the way in. My legs were just rebelling against the hills today. And if I run outside in Pgh, I'm always running hills. I guess my legs just wanted a break. :confused3 (Okay, so maybe it's that I'm lazy....:lmao: )
On the upside, I forced myself to go out in the rain (okay, drizzle) and my shoes didn't get soaked. So no blisters! I'll try the TM tomorrow and see if I can complete a SR in addition to my regular workout. But only if I'm feeling ambitious, which might not happen. After all, the gym means the elliptical, the elliptical means books, books mean.... hmm, I'm not sure what books mean. But I like 'em! :thumbsup2

Debra - I need to work on my abs too. I think that's half the battle for me in the full. Usually by 13-14 miles my back starts bothering me. I know it's due to my "garbage gut" so if I can just lose some of it tone up what's left, I think it'll be ok. So far I'm just planning on some local races. Next big race (I hope) will be the Maui Marathon in Sept.
Anne - How ya doing? I always like to see your posts too.
Carrie - WTG on the 8 miles!
Maura - bummer about the leak.
Jeff - cool pic of the tako.
I'm doing my best to increase the running population. Talked my niece into running the 1/2 next year. She's very excited and trying to talk a couple of her sisters into running it too. Have to get on the phone and book my 2BR for marathon weekend. The more the merrier!:dance3:

Mindy, sorry about your grandmother. Thoughts going out to you and your family! :grouphug:
Debra, a local running store chain is trying to start up a women's running group. I was excited cause I've yet to really find anyone to run with right around me. I've tried taking out a couple friends, but they always seem to fade out on me and quit. This group meets four times a week, all abilities, runs vary from 3 to 8 miles. I have heard the Sunday meet is the biggest, but DH has taken over Sundays training for his first full so I'm home with the kids. Only day I can meet the group is on the day they run the 3 mile trail that is literally straight up. It is a killer. And the turnout has been very, very small so I'm running with elites. Seriously. I guess I'm like the token old lady runner for them. Course, after next week's runs I'll be out of commission for awhile so they'll have to find another old lady to run with.
Off for a quick 3 miler!

Hey all...Happy Wednesday.
Thanks to those inquiring/commenting on my roof. As expected, problem was temporary and no damage resulted. Figures it happened while DH was out of town for the day (Pittsburgh, Debra!) Probably time for a new roof anyway.
We got word yesterday of our impending pay cut. Fortunately, DH and I can handle it and we still have jobs!
Shan Hope the running group works out for you. I know you'll be on hiatus for awhile, but when you get back you'll be ready to give them a run for their money. Hey--that would make things interesting, wouldn't it--adding money to the mix?
Debra My weight work focuses pretty much exclusively on the laundry list of leg exercises that I was given in an attempt to keep my hips/legs strong enough to ward off the dread ITB syndrome. Throw in the occasional planks (although sometimes my looks more like a soggy, droopy mishewn board!) BTW, I can't picture you as lazy. Just hill-challenged, maybe?
Mindy Sorry about your grandmother.
Terri WTG on recruiting more to "the cause". I'm sure Disney will appreciate the extra dollars!
CarrieWindy, yes--but at least it's been warm. I wore a thin shell yesterday wlaking the dog--but shoulda worn a headband. The wind just whistles right through my ears/head and gives me nasty headaches. Maybe if there was something in there to slow it down! :lmao:
This just in! My Girl Scout cookies have arrived! Irritated that they have significantly reduce the number of my beloved Thin Mints in a box. Didn't read the fine print before I bought---let's just say "several"
Time to go have "second dessert" (wasn't that a Hobbit thing? No? Well, it should be!) Of course, I should have no surprise about the scale creeping upward. My snacking/dessert lately has gotten somewhat out of control.

What a great morning - very crisp (low 30s). Perfect biking weather. My ride in was uneventful. Yesterday's C25K was good. W2D3 tomorrow and then Sunday is W3D1. The three minute run scares the beejeebers out of me. I'm doing okay with 90 seconds, but am ready to slow down when it ends. Sunday will be outside and not on the treadmill. Fingers crossed.
DGF has another W2 run tonight. I go along with the dog. It's good for everyone!
I'm going to need new shoes soon. After reading too much about pronation, I've decided I underpronate. I decided this by looking at the front of my current shoes - granted they've been used as walkers and for everyday wear - on the front they're worn a little more on the outside. MfM seems to despise the "comfort" shoes that are recommended for underpronators, but makes no other suggestion. So some questions:
Do you underpronate? What kind of shoe do you use? I was considering a stability shoe with an additional insert. Opinions? I'm losing weight - I'm still 50 pounds over my ideal weight - but at one point I was 110 pounds over my ideal weight. It's been coming off slowly. Does the loss affect my stride? Questions. Questions.
Thanks for any insight.

Ronda, find a running store that can help you with your shoes. The one I go to has a treadmill that you run on and they video tape your feet so they can see what you do. They also have some computer foot pad that shows your correct foot size and where you put pressure - arches.
Maherae
02-12-2009, 12:40 PM
Ronda, good job in paying attention to your shoes! Congratulations on the weight loss!! That definitely will affect your shoes. Please listen to Shan and get thee to a runner's store that will analyze your foot and gait. Make sure they bring out several different brands, and not try to sell you a certain one. Also, a good store will allow you to bring the shoes back within a couple of weeks if they don't work out.
Tracey, hope you sell all of those cookies QUICKLY! and not have to do something like this -->> popcorn:: Hope those 4 miles fly by! :teleport:
Carrie, Dahhling, Ah would nevah have thrown in the towel as that would mean Ah could only participate as a spectator with this group!! (Southern drawl, eyes fluttering, fan waving...). Seriously, the foot and I have come to an understanding. I'll gimp during non race time, and then on race day it will get me to the finish line! And that wouldn't have happened without the support of the WISH team! :upsidedow Good job on taking your own advice there, kiddo!!

Anne is right. I've had to return two pairs of shoes and they never gave me any problems - happily helped me find another pair that worked better.

Congrats Sunny! :yay:
Got 6.20 miles in this morning. I tried something new. Jackie was sweet and sent me an extra copy she had of her Galloway book. (Thank you!) I have been playing around with the idea of eventually doing a full marathon, but I was looking into Bingham and Galloway cause I'm thinking my knee wouldn't hold up trying to run the entire way. Actually, I know it wouldn't cause it barely lasts thru a half marathon. So since I'm not training for anything I decided to give Galloway a try this morning and compare my pace. I did a R3/W1 and my pace ended up being 10:48 - 1:07:03. I thought this was pretty good cause my last 10K I ran was 1:06:02. So basically a minute extra, but with lots of walking breaks. I think physically and mentally this is the way to go for a full, although I felt a little like I was cheating.
I went to this cute new park. It is a little of a drive, but it has this meandering one mile loop that has some short inclines - a decent little workout. Lots of water fountains along the path and really nice bathrooms. I so wish this park was a tad closer. It has the most awesome playgrounds, two dog parks, skatepark... It is so nice! It was also a beautiful morning. I guess alot of people were playing hookey cause it was packed!
I got a question. Does anyone know how to set the Garmin up for intervals with a goal distance? I can see how to set it up R3/W1, but it only has how many reps. I want to put in a distance. Anyone know? I had to keep looking at the timer and it was a pain. I really would have liked the beep.
Have a nice weekend WISHers! My oldest has a swim meet tomorrow and I'm working it. Should be fun!
Later!

Hey all,
Maura: Glad to hear the roof thing is under control. Also GLAD to hear that you and DH are still working!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Oh yes, "second desert" I am always up for that!!
Anne: TM with incline, should do ya wonders and hopefully keeps your mind off of being on the dreaded Dreadmill!!
Ronda: Weightloss, esp a significant amount can affect your gait! I also recommend you go to a runner's store and let them help you pick out shoes for the way you walk and the way you run!
Sunny: GOOD FOR YOU!! Hoping the 7 miles this weekend go even better!! If you PM me your email I can send out that other graphic to you!
Mindy: Nice job on the 5miles!
:wave2: Aloha Jeff, Jen, Debra, Mooshu, Liz and Bry!!!
AFM: I got out and did my 4 miles this morning. I have 8 on tap for tomorrow, then 12 next Sunday, then 6 and then the PRINCESS HALF!!! So cool, I'll be hanging with the ladies!! Girls weekend and again need to thank LIZ for housing me for the weekend!:thumbsup2
I wore my Kilimanjaro Safaris T-shirt to Publix this morning. The cashier asked me about it and actually thought I went to Mount Kilimanjaro and then had to explain that it was at WDW! :rotfl:
Have a great Saturday and Happy Valentines Day to those that are celebrating!

Hi everyone! I'm so excited - I just rented DVC points and booked our Marathon weekend rooms. We're staying in the BCV in a 2-bedroom villa! :cool1: :cool1: :cool1:
I am hoping that all 4 of the kids can come with us. The older 2 are in High School and it's dicey if they can get the time off, but I'm hopeful. But even if it's just Tom, me and the two younger kids I think we'll be glad to have the 2 bedroom. This is particularly exciting since this is the original resort we wanted to stay at the first time we went to WDW, but we've never been able to afford it before.
So I thought it was time that I actually signed up for the race, and so I have now also registered for the Full Marathon!
I got out and trained twice last week, which is double the week before. I'm moving in the right direction! My plan is to run three times this upcoming week, and get back on the regular training schedule I had before Marathon weekend. This will get so much easier once I leave my admissions job in June - right now between that job and really getting my business rolling I'm really working two jobs at once - but I'm just going to have to find the time! I know I can do it.
I'm so jealous of everyone doing the Princess Half in a few weeks! It's fun to read about your training, and I can't wait to read the race reports!
And HAPPY VALENTINE'S DAY EVERYONE!

Kira Where did you rent your points? Disboard rent/trade?
Excuse me for being daft, but Sunny what is your story? Everyone greets you like you are Queen--which is a great thing to be , by the way, and I curtsy before you. But alas, I am a clueless peasant? Backstory, please?
As for me...nothing today since I spent all day preparing dinner for our dearest friends who we havent seen in too long, even though they live right around the corner. And just found out....they are moving to St Andrews in Scotland! He's a prof, and taking a job there. Already I am missing them, and it doesn't happen til next year.
Tomorrow I will run 6 miles. But for now it's time to veg.

SUNNY - YOU ARE ROCKING IT!!! Way to go, I am so glad you are back (no pun intended!)
Today I cross trained at Disney on Ice. YIKES!! It was in Green Bay, so we parked at Lambeau Field and hiked it to the center. And there were other events going on, so it was a ZOO! And parking was horrible.
Oh and I ate way too much junk. You think Disney is bad. A box of popcorn was $10!!!!!!
