Hey all...
I am home... at last...
Be it ever so humble...
Em's good. She's back in class...
We've lied the whole weekend (her parents don't know she was sick...) so I imagine I need to go and say lots of hail Mary's and a few Our Fathers... (Ian will explain...)
Good to be back... I hope you didn't over do the thread while I was gone...
I didn't know what kind of withdrawal I'd go through while away... (a box of Peeps helped though...)
So... can anyone tell me where Marilyn went or are you back already??? :flower3:

Glad to see your home safe. Marilyn is somewhere in the Canary Islands I think. I don't think she would have internet, but they were taking laptop just in case. And no she not back yet. Someone else may remember, but I think she was going to be gone for a while.

Welcome back Michelle! Gee, whatever happened to your niece must have been awful if she couldn't tell her parents, so thank goodness you could take care of her. :thumbsup2
Marilyn and John went somewhere hot and sunny to relax and read books. An island, I thought she said near the Canary Islands? Can't remember for sure, but she said there's nothing to do but lie around and relax. Sounds very nice to me! That's just the kind of vacation I desperately need! :goodvibes

Tyler's dad called to say hi to him, but first he had to tell me how bad a headache he has because work always does that to him and his job is so stressful, with so many responsibilities, but that's why he makes the big bucks. :headache: I SOOOOO don't care to hear about his day or his headaches. :rotfl2: I usually just hand the phone to Tyler when I see it's his dad, but he was calling from a different number that I didn't recognize, so I got stuck.
Well, off to fix supper, then Tyler's bath shortly after and to bed. He's got so much energy today, he's driving me nuts! ;) I keep forgetting that I need to talk to his teachers to tell them to stop giving him the choice of whether he wants to go outside for recess because he almost never goes. He stays inside to play in the classroom. NOT good because all kids need to get their energy out outside. Especially him since he hasn't wanted to go to karate in almost a month. :headache:
OK, I'm starving, so off I go. ;)

I thought she loved having long hair, the girlie girl that she is!
Whats there to style?
Be nice Bubba.... ;)
Oh stop. I can do a lot things to it. I'm really surprised how much I like it. It would be easier if it were a little longer and I could do more things with it but then it wouldn't be as cute. It will grow back and she did a nice thing. My mom never let me cut my hair when I was young and I told myself I would never be that way. She used to tell me that it would never grow back. I cut inches off of my hair all the time and it grows back every time.
And just think of how PROUD we all are of her for the great thing she did... tell her party: We LOVE HER!!!
[QUOTE=ibouncetoo;30437443]
Not a secret - thought you had figured it out  I made something special for you & Deb (with a little pink heart) to know that you were thought of
Deb & John had figured it out (I think they confronted me & my face gave it away  ) I had also made something for Holly & Tyler but they were home (and Holly standing at the door talking to someone) so she saw me put the magnets on her door.
I love when your face gives you away... you're so darn :cutie:
Brooke is absolutely adorable and a real sweetheart.
But my sympathies are with Jon. I know if my girls cut their hair short I would be weeping as well.
But the girls would be doing a wonderful thing and you would also be a VERY proud dad!!! (oh... come on... admit it...:lovestruc )
You should see me as a red head... ;)
Yep, what she said. Especially if I try out being a red head ... ;)
Ohhh.. this calls for a red wig... anyone???
That happened to me 3 times! :rotfl2: And the third time was the worst because everybody else knew but me. He hadn't come out yet, but everybody told me they were surprised I didn't know. He's the one who took me to see Cats and The King and I.
Ian... am I going to get in trouble if I comment???
I second, third and forth this hip hip horay :cheer2: :cheer2: :cheer2:
She looks so grown up too :cutie:
And She's just as great as my BFF Molly who did it too!!! :cheer2:
Yup! I have an afghan on my couch that my grandma used to have on her couch. She died in 1998 or 99 and every time I use it on my couch I think of her. :goodvibes
Everytime I have a cup of tea I think of my grandmother... I told Em that this weekend when I was making her tea for her... lots of love in that little cup...
I thought I would too but it really looks cute. I've had mine pretty short before and I can't do it because it curls up. Even thought her hair is straight as a board I kept thinking it would get wavy. She can have it long or short. Plus she may be able to wash it herself now :confused3
And she may find that it gets wavy along the way... mine did...
Gaylean- Brooke looks adorable
Michelle- You are a great aunt. I don't have any aunts.:sad2:
Jill... I'm openly adopting all nieces and nephews... :grouphug: Gaylean's already in...

I have a 25 year old nephew so I'm OK with it :goodvibes Don't have any kids though cause great-aunt sounds bad.
Years ago my oldest nephew told me I had to have a baby so he could be an uncle... I had to explain that it didn't work that way... that it would be his cousin... but I did tell him that when he has children that it will make me a Great-Aunt... He told me I was already a great Aunt...
(of course the kid's a junior in college and never calls anymore...:rotfl: )
You didn't buck up and get the camera with the FLASH????????
:lmao: :lmao: :lmao: No... she just hasn't looked at the instruction booklet... but then again neither have I...
Good Morning
I got the lovely presents and the card for my birthday....:thumbsup2
Last night my husband took me out for meals at the Casino then I played the rouette and I won 70 pounds (around 120 dollars)... as I want to carry on but Ian think enough... Put it away for New York....
Also Ian and I with our friend watched the film called Slumboy Millionaries as it was a good film...
I got email from Donny Osmond to tell me Happy Birthday... as I am member of his club...:thumbsup2
Bubba, we are in 5 days, between our birthday as two more years we will be special ....lol;)
Scottishwee35
Congrats!!! You will need it for NY!!!
Well, I did as you instructed and immediately put in wash, vacuumed the living room, checked the DIS, put wash in the dryer, dusted the TV room, checked the DIS, put in more wash (the TV room blankets), vacuumed the TV room, checked the DIS. I just made a rule that each time I got up to move things from the washer to the dryer that I had to ALSO do another task. :thumbsup2
Ok.. now the two of you can go and sign up for the cruise... did you already??? I'll have to go check... :rolleyes1

Here's something funny: I mentioned that Tyler and I spent 2 hours on Sunday (I think it was Sunday) on Disney's website clicking on all the attractions for every park and playing the video for any ride that had video. The one for Space Mountain has a creepy voice doing a countdown (I think it's space mountain) and I was telling Tyler I went on that when my mom took me, but she backed out of line when it got close to the ride and made me go alone. :rotfl2: All I remember is it being dark inside, fast and fun! Well, he told me today that he can't wait to go on that "alien ride"! I had no idea what he was talking about until he described it to me. I told him it's not an alien ride, but he says he just knows it's an alien doing the countdown on the video. :rotfl2:

Fortunately, our local NBC is back so I can watch Biggest Loser tonight. It sucked last week when it went out! The switch to digital didn't go so well for that station. It was out the first day, flickering in and out, lots of people complaining. After 2 or 3 days, it worked fine for me, but there's a message scrolling across the bottom of the screen for what to do if it isn't working right. Must have been lots of complaints!

Here you go. I think this is the one you were meaning:
May the best ye've ever seen
Be the worst ye'll ever see
May a moose ne'er leave yer girnal
Wi' a tear drap in his e'e
May ye aye keep hale an' he'rty
Till ye're auld eneuch tae dee
May ye aye be jist as happy
As we wish ye aye tae be
And in English:
May the best you have ever seen
Be the worst you will ever see
May a mouse never leave your girnal
With a tear drop in his eye
May you always keep hale and hearty
Till you are old enough to die
May you always be just as happy
It might have been a different variation but it's generally the same.
As we wish you always to be
I'll :drinking1 to that!!! :thumbsup2

When it is in his own interest.
But other times he treats Tyler like a toy to put on a shelf when he wants to do something else, like go fishing.

No, I don't think you're ragging. I don't know, we did group counseling last year I think, and the psychologist released me after a couple sessions because she said I was doing all the right things and didn't need to be there anymore. :rotfl2: And she told Chuck and Shielah that she'd like to have them continue, and that Sheilah should also start her own sessions (which she did).
HAVE A GREAT TIME TOMORROW!!!!!
We all think you are doing stuff right!!
But, if I hear Nan correctly, she is suggesting counseling as a place where issues like the camp are discussed and worked out with the counselor as a mediator.

On day 3 of my migraine but got myself into work today. My mgmt staff was cool & set me up in a little office so I can keep the lights off (even tho am wearing shades) & it's a bit more quiet. I should be ok tomorrow.
Michelle - glad you're back home & thanks for being such a great aunt

Oh, I see. I can ask him to contact his psych for us if we can't agree on it. Especially in light of his most recent email this morning. :headache: I emailed him to say, "Sorry, but I just don't agree to this at his age, especially in light of all his issues". And then I went on to tell him the opinion of Tyler's OT and special ed teacher and that I'd be more open to it maybe in a couple years IF the professionals who deal with him regularly can say they feel Tyler could handle camp successfully. His response: "Thank you for your opinion. I'll let you know what I decide".

Just wondering all you folks who are hopping to DL recently....
Are you stopping by our brick in the plaza and saying "Hi"?

I wish we had known to look for it. We saw lots of them and talked about them too. We almost got one for Willie back in '05 but it wasn't going to be ready for us for when we were going for his birthday trip, so we opted not to do it. Sadly, when I told Willie about this on our trip while looking at them he said he wished he had a stone. Oh well...next time.
BTW, they are really wobbly over by CA Adventure
HAPPY BIRTHDAY WILSON!!!
Hope you had a great day at DL yesterday
We had the best day EVER. It was a wonderful experience to share the day together. We rode tons of rides...
in order:
CA Screaming
Toy Story
Muholand Madness (just him)
Jelly Fish
Rockit Ship(?)
Soaring over CA
Tower of Terror
Then to Dland:
Buzz Lightyear
Nemo
Small World
TeaCups
Pirates
Haunted Mansion
Indy
Monorail to DTD
(we did miss a few that we wanted to do, Space Mountain, Splash because I was too cold to do it, and Jungle Cruise since we were both too tired at the end of the day) but neither of us felt like we missed anything.
It was a very special day and we have the best memories to have and hold forever of the day he turned 9.
Hey Wilson - Happy Birthday!
Thanks :thumbsup2
Bubba, I want to share the NEW stuff they had in Disneyland that was just placed there on Monday 2/23 BUT....I want you to be suprised so I'll not tell you because it was so cool to see it as a suprise.

Could you tell us again how to find it?
please ::yes::
.
I'll try! Go to www.mycoke.com, and in the upper right corner it should say "Register now". Click on that.
After you've registered your e-mail address, go back to www.mycoke.com and log in (upper right corner again).
On the next screen click on "Twist text get". On the bottom of the next screen, towards the right side, there's a partial red bottle cap. Click on that and it brings up the official rules.
Scroll down to rule 5b and click where it says "click here" in red letters in that paragraph. Next, a box will pop up telling you what your code is. Type the code that you see, it's case sensitive, and click "Continue". If you win, the next screen will say you won and to check your e-mail. If you didn't win, it will say thanks for playing, check your e-mail.

I'm so excited about seeing Disney on Ice this Sunday, I can hardly stand it! :goodvibes I've never seen a show on ice, but Tyler tells me I'll love it. We found a couple YouTube clips of the show last night and seeing the vehicles from Cars drive around the ice really got us both excited! AND Sebastion from the Little Mermaid will sing, AND Mickey and Minnie drive out in a car to start the show! After school today, I told Tyler "I CAN'T WAIT TO SEE MICKEY AND MINNIE!" :goodvibes

So I'm very happy today....I finally got round two of the paperwork done for Ray's veterans pension. I had submitted the application in January. Now they wanted me to substantiate my claim by providing all of his medical information. Well he fell down the stairs at home in Nov 2003 and has been in and out of many hospitals and facilities since then. I had to gather all the dates and places and doctors information for them. I sent it out to them today. So it's done. Between laying down 6 hrs a day and doing all of that paperwork....I have had no available time to get online. I'm glad it's finished. Now I just have to wait to hear back from them again when they make their decision as to whether he is eligible to receive funding and how much. If all goes well, I should get some financial relief in the next month or two. That will really make a difference in my budget again. It's been 1 1/2 years that I have been paying out $1,000 to $1,500 a month for Ray's expenses. That's a lot of money. Let's hope they decide quickly and favorably.

Hi all.
I really haven't had much to say lately. I'm going through a "quiet phase."
The new job is going well. I've finally adjusted to not being at a breaking point for 9 hours a day.
I am very surprised because I am also very busy, but it is stuff I LOVE, research and creative work. I already have several projects starting.
At least half of my job is an excellent fit for me, a combination of technology and creativity.
The other half (developing and automated testing strategy) is über-poopy.
I have also been extremely busy this week with my synagogue.
It is a very traditional, yet very socially progressive synagogue.
Back in January, I started shooting my mouth off to the Rabbi and anyone else in earshot about Prop 8, and how the only human right that the synagogue and the social action committee seem to worry about is overseas.
I must admit that I was truly spectacular in my attack ... let's put it this way ... Sukie was surprised and shocked.
I think the "Pièce de résistance" was an LONG email listing the quite "legal" Reichstag enacted once the Nazi's were voted into power in Germany. It was a stunning list of dehumanizing acts, that were all quite legal (now comes the fine difference between legal, fair and insane).
Let's just say that mouths were left dropped open for days, and some nerves were frazzled, including our Rabbi's.
... I never said that I was upset that I am the most politic person in the world.
Well, the result is that this coming Friday night, my synagogue is have a "Gender Equality" service. I arranged for speakers to come from Equality Illinois to talk about Prop 8, what work Equality Illinois is doing here.
The Rabbi and the social action committee is interested in knowing what the synagogue and the faith-based community can do for equality.
So, today, between work things I was firming up the speakers who are coming.
On a complete side note, I have always liked the Jewish term for the act of doing good, it is called Tikkun Olam ... as in, "we are called to do acts of Tikkun Olam."
Tikkun Olam quite literally means "Heal the World." I've always liked the notion that acts of kindness and social justice are considered "healing the world."
OK, that's it for me tonight.

I told him we certainly can, and also told him he can take swimming classes there because once he learns how to swim, they'll let him use the water slide in their pool. :thumbsup2 I'm pretty excited about signing us up!

I'm watching Lost on Thrusday this week too - since Idol is on for 2 hours tonight. :happytv:
Isn't it great to have tivo!!!! How did we ever live without it???
I wasn't blown away by anyone last week - but super happy Tatiana is gone!!! I'm hoping Anoop comes back as a wild card.
Oh, sorry. I'm sooooo happy that Tatiana is gone too....what a relief. I like Anoop and would be happy if he came back as a wild card.
I'm hoping tonight is better than last week overall. I think Adam Lambert is in tonight's group and I though he was really good during the audition rounds - don't remember seeing him during Holloywood week though.
I don't remember Adam Lambert but I can't wait to see tonight. I think they just get really nervous and don't pick good songs. The ones that are confident and pick out something great are the ones that move forward.
I still like Alexis Grace. I'll watch tonight and see if I find someone else that I think stands out.

Ohhh Monica... I hope you are feeling better... & thanks for the great Aunt
:thumbsup2 :thumbsup2
Hi Michelle, Hi Holly.....LOST is on tonight. It's ok if you all want to talk about it afterwards because I have decided not to check the boards until after I watch it. So talk away!!!:woohoo: :woohoo: :woohoo:

Yeah, I know. I've been talking about doing it for a while, but was sort of holding off because his stepmom mentioned that she's trying to convince his dad to sign up so they can do more things together, so I was hoping he'd do so and I could avoid the cost. I mentioned to his dad recently about me wanting to sign us up, but I wouldn't if he'd planned on them joining instead. He told me he's not going to because he's "too exhausted after work to do anything". SO......I've kept Tyler waiting long enough. He's ready for fun, and so am I! :goodvibes

Yup! And good for weight control too. He hasn't been to karate in a month and I can literally see his face and belly getting rounder. But we did go up to ATA, the karate school, today after school because the owner called and asked me if anything's wrong since they haven't seen us in a while. I told him Tyler was just getting burned out and wanted a break. Tyler told him he's thinking about just quitting for good, but isn't sure yet. The owner reminded him that he made a commitment to earn his black belt and to talk to him next time he feels this way. He encouraged him to want to try to come back starting Monday. Next week is picture day and also the start of a new unit, learning new moves. :thumbsup2

Deb - good luck getting that dealt with. That's a huge financial burden. How are your legs doing? Is the 6hours a day making a big difference?
Ian - glad you are enjoying some of your new job. Is Tikkun Olam pronounced the way it looks?
I suppose it is pronounce the way it's written, but I have difficulty with transliteration (the original is in Hebrew), but that's how it's typically written using the Latin alphabet.
I would have written it more phonetically Tea-koon O Lahm (tikkun is heal and olam is world).

Oh, he's behind, he's up to about a mid kindergarten level now. He's working on letter sounds and his writing is improving, but can still only write by looking at words in front of him, can't come up with them on his own yet because he can't spell anything yet other than just a handful of words, BUT the main point is that he's DOING the worksheets, whereas before at his old school, they couldn't get him to do more than 2 or 3 math problems and when it came time for letter recognition or writing practice, he'd flush it down the toilet or throw it away or get rid of it somehow.

in order:
CA Screaming
Toy Story
Muholand Madness (just him)
Jelly Fish
Rockit Ship(?)
Soaring over CA
Tower of Terror
Then to Dland:
Buzz Lightyear
Nemo
Small World
TeaCups
Pirates
Haunted Mansion
Indy
Monorail to DTD
(we did miss a few that we wanted to do, Space Mountain, Splash because I was too cold to do it, and Jungle Cruise since we were both too tired at the end of the day) but neither of us felt like we missed anything.
It was a very special day and we have the best memories to have and hold forever of the day he turned 9.

THANKS ::yes::

We have to start measuring from where HE IS not from where other kids are.
He is making progress and will continue to make more as he learns to control his outbursts. Whether it is all from the behavior management they use at school or if medication changes are instituted, he will learn and be able to do the work. We know he is smart, it is just trapped in there by the outbursts he cannot control.

no I really want you to have the enjoyment of seeing it all on your birthday. I kept thinking about how much fun V had and then how much fun you will have too. It is a special place on that actual day with someone you love.
btw, the ticket was for one park only. I didn't know that :scared1: We upgraded Willie's to a parkhopper for $25 bucks, bad news since I didn't want to spend any $$$ that day, but worse news is that is was upgraded from a 1 day to a 2 day that can be used within 30 days :scared1: :scared1: How can I not take him again in the next 30 days???? no I really want you to have the enjoyment of seeing it all on your birthday.
My AP is still valid then too:scared1: :scared1: We *may* run down for one day. Have to look at the calendar and see if it can fit between the play and racing...always too busy...
Also, great play news from Molly. She gets to wear a mic in the performance. She had never had one before, but since she has lines she gets one this time. So cool. That also means we will be able to hear her during the songs she is in :woohoo: :woohoo: :woohoo:
You Go Miss Molly!!!! :cheer2: :cheer2: :cheer2: (you ARE going to take video, right???

I'm so excited about seeing Disney on Ice this Sunday, I can hardly stand it! :goodvibes I've never seen a show on ice, but Tyler tells me I'll love it. We found a couple YouTube clips of the show last night and seeing the vehicles from Cars drive around the ice really got us both excited! AND Sebastion from the Little Mermaid will sing, AND Mickey and Minnie drive out in a car to start the show! After school today, I told Tyler "I CAN'T WAIT TO SEE MICKEY AND MINNIE!" :goodvibes
Oh I would love to see it.. bet you both would enjoy it...

Great pics Nan! I love the idea of the homage to 9. That was terrific!
Also glad to see that you rode Buzz Lightyear. I was looking at the list of the rides on the DL website and it wasn't listed. A little concerned it wasn't there anymore as it seems to be one of Kaleigh's favourite rides.
We upgraded Willie's to a parkhopper for $25 bucks, bad news since I didn't want to spend any $$$ that day, but worse news is that is was upgraded from a 1 day to a 2 day that can be used within 30 days :scared1: :scared1: How can I not take him again in the next 30 days???? Well, I do happen know a certain family that is coming down to DL within that 30 days (I do believe), that would love to see you ...
Ian, glad to hear you are enjoying your new position. Right now I'm just so swamped at work I don't know if I am enjoying myself or not.
Glad to hear Tyler is improving with his school work. Ask his dad if he wants Tyler to enjoy camp or just be frustrated with it. He probably wants Tyler to go there to relive the same experiences he had, but it should be pointed out to him that perhaps Tyler would get a better experience with it if he has already gone to the one you and his counsellors/teachers are suggesting, to try and get used to the notion of camp. That way he and Tyler can both talk positively and have fond memories of the same camp. Just not necessarily this year.
Yes it is 4:30 am and I am awake. Don't ask me why. I need to go home tonight and get away from work. It's amazing how crazy 3 days in the office can make me. Probably not going home each night and not sleeping in my own bed has something to do with it too. Oh well, just a little over 12 hours I will be on my way home.
HollyTyler

THANKS ::yes::
 bad thought here-:sad2: -very very bad:headache:
if Chuck pushes it through so that Tyler goes to his camp, loses control there and is sent home, Chuck will have to pay financially and emotionally for his insistance that Tyler do something he is not ready for.
on the other hand, it could be a real downer for Tyler and whichever other little kids feel the brunt of his outbursts.....:scared:
Not good to teach Chuck a lesson at the expense of Tyler and some other little kids. :sad1:
I agree and wish there's something I can do about it. This is one of the first concerns I thought of.
One of the lawyers here (who used to work for the judge assigned to our case) reminded me that Chuck gets 2 weeks of summer vacation with Tyler (that he never uses), and I can't tell him what not to do on his vacation. HOWEVER, I can file an Ex Parte Order requesting that the court order him not to drop him off at camp for his vacation, and to attach a signed statement from his doctors and teacher, any professional who deals with him regularly and would know his situation.
It was suggested that I wait to hear if he's signed Tyler up, otherwise the court won't do something on a "what if". I have access to the appropriate forms on my computer here at work and can file it myself and will do so if necessary.
HollyTyler
02-26-2009, 05:55 AM
We have to start measuring from where HE IS not from where other kids are.
He is making progress and will continue to make more as he learns to control his outbursts. Whether it is all from the behavior management they use at school or if medication changes are instituted, he will learn and be able to do the work. We know he is smart, it is just trapped in there by the outbursts he cannot control.
You hit the nail on the head! :thumbsup2 Now if I can get his dad to quit trying to get him to do academic stuff that he's not up to, that will eliminate more frustration for Tyler.

1 - Go to "wikipedia." Hit “random”
or click http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Special:Random
The first random wikipedia article you get is the name of your band.
2 - Go to "Random quotations"
or click http://www.quotationspage.com/random.php3
The last four or five words of the very last quote of the page is the title of your first album.
3 - Go to flickr and click on “explore the last seven days”
or click http://www.flickr.com/explore/interesting/7days
Third picture, no matter what it is, will be your album cover.
4 - Use photoshop or similar to put it all together. (if you don't have it, here's an online photo editor: pixlr.com/)
Then post the pic of course.

Oh Deborah, I feel for you! Hopefully she doesn't say it again! I'm sure Tyler's first swear words aren't too far away. He's never heard me say a single one, but his dad does all the time (I've heard him). One time when I was dropping Tyler off, the dog was so excited to see Tyler that he knocked a plant and plant stand over with his tail, and Chuck yelled a swear word. I spoke up and said, "It's just a plant, no need to say inappropriate things in front of Tyler, not good to teach him that." Needless to say, daddy-o was not happy with my comments. :rotfl2: OH WELL! Too bad! Next time I'll get the soap for his mouth! :rotfl:

I've mentioned that to him. He doesn't believe there would be any reason Tyler would get frustrated and says I'm being completely unrealistic. Here's a recent quote from him (and don't shoot the messenger please): "I will not allow my son to go to a camp with freaks." :sad2:
Wait until that moron finds out I've spoken to somebody about the requirements for Special Olympics to see if Tyler would qualify, since he just doesn't have the motor coordination to participate in sports otherwise. He tries and just gets frustrated.

This is a first-hand account from a passenger on Flight 1549. It is an internal memo to the members of his firm. It is very well written, is descriptive, and gives this man's honest reactions to the events around him. It's from a Partner at Heidrick & Struggles, an executive recruiting firm, who was on Flight 1549. Gerry McNamara (New York/Charlotte) was on US Airways Flight 1549 last week.
Here is his account of the event:
Thursday was a difficult day for all of us at the firm and I left the Park Avenue office early afternoon to catch a cab bound for LaGuardia Airport .
I was scheduled for a 5pm departure, but able to secure a seat on the earlier flight scheduled to leave at 3pm. As many of us who fly frequently often do, I recall wondering if I'd just placed myself on a flight I shouldn't be on!
Just prior to boarding I finished up a conference call with my associate, Jenn Sparks ( New York ), and our placement, the CIO of United Airlines. When I told him that I was about to board a US Airways flight, we all had a little fun with it.
I remember walking on the plane and seeing a fellow with grey hair in the cockpit and thinking "that's a good thing... I like to see grey hair in the cockpit!"
I was seated in 8F, on the starboard side window and next to a young business man. The New York to Charlotte flight is one I've taken what seems like hundreds of times over the years. We take off north over the Bronx and as we climb, turn west over the Hudson River to New Jersey and tack south. I love to fly, always have, and this flight plan gives a great view of several NY landmarks including Yankee Stadium and the George Washington Bridge .
I had started to point out items of interest to the gentleman next to me when we heard a terrible crash - a sound no one ever wants to hear while flying - and then the engines wound down to a screeching halt. 10 seconds later, there was a strong smell of jet fuel. I knew we would be landing and thought the pilot would take us down no doubt to Newark Airport . As we began to turn south I noticed the pilot lining up on the river - still - I thought - en route for Newark .
Next thing we heard was "Brace for impact!" - a phrase I had heard many years before as an active duty Marine Officer but never before on a commercial air flight. Everyone looked at each other in shock. It all happened so fast we were astonished!
We began to descend rapidly and it started to sink in. This is the last flight. I'm going to die today. This is it. I recited my favorite bible verse, the Lord's Prayer, and asked God to take care of my wife, children, family and friends.
When I raised my head I noticed people texting their friends and family....getting off a last message. My blackberry was turned off and in my trouser pocket...no time to get at it. Our descent continued and I prayed for courage to control my fear and help if able.
I quickly realized that one of two things was going to happen, neither of them good. We could hit by the nose, flip and break up, leaving few if any survivors, bodies, cold water, fuel. Or we could hit one of the wings and roll and flip with the same result. I tightened my seat belt as tight as I could possibly get it so I would remain intact.
As we came in for the landing, I looked out the windows and remember seeing the buildings in New Jersey , the cliffs in Weehawken , and then the piers. The water was dark green and sure to be freezing cold. The stewardesses were yelling in unison: "Brace! Brace! Brace!"
It was a violent hit - the water flew up over my window - but we bobbed up and were all amazed that we remained intact.
There was some panic - people jumping over seats and running towards the doors, but we soon got everyone straightened out and calmed down. There were a lot of people that took leadership roles in little ways. Those sitting at the doors over the wing did a fantastic job...they were opened in a New York second! Everyone worked together - teamed up and in groups to figure out how to help each other.
I exited on the starboard side of the plane, 3 or 4 rows behind my seat through a door over the wing and was, I believe, the 10th or 12th person out. I took my seat cushion as a flotation device and once outside saw I was the only one who did....none of us remembered to take the yellow inflatable life vests from under the seat.
We were standing in 6-8 inches of water and it was freezing. There were two women on the wing, one of whom slipped off into the water. Another passenger and I pulled her back on and had her kneel down to keep from falling off again. By that point we were totally soaked and absolutely frozen from the icy wind.
The ferries were the first to arrive, and although they're not made for rescue, they did an incredible job. I know this river, having swum in it as a boy. The Hudson is an estuary - part salt and part fresh water - and moves with the tide. I could tell the tide was moving out because we were tacking slowly south towards Ellis Island , The Statue of Liberty,
and The Battery.
The first ferry boat pulled its bow up to the tip of the wing, and the first mate lowered the Jacobs ladder down to us. We got a couple people up the ladder to safety, but the current was strong pushing the stern of the boat into the inflatable slide and we were afraid it would puncture it...there must have been 25 passengers in it by now. Only two or three
were able to board the first ferry before it moved away.
Another ferry came up, and we were able to get the woman that had fallen into the water on the ladder, but she just couldn't move her legs and fell off. Back onto the ladder she went; however, the ferry had to back away because of the swift current. A helicopter arrived on station (nearly blowing us all off the wing) and followed the ferry with the
woman on the ladder. We lost view of the situation but I believe the helicopter lowered its basket to rescue her.
As more ferries arrived, we were able to get people up on the boats a few at a time. The fellow in front of me fell off the ladder and into the water. When we got him back on the ladder he could not move his legs to climb. I couldn't help him from my position so I climbed up the ladder to the ferry deck where the first mate and I hoisted the Jacobs ladder with him on it...when he got close enough we grabbed his trouser belt and hauled him on deck. We were all safely off the wing.
We could not stop shaking. Uncontrollable shaking. The only thing I had with me was my blackberry, which had gotten wet and was not working. (It started working again a few hours later).
The ferry took us to the Weehawken Terminal in NJ where I borrowed a phone and called my wife to let her know I was okay. The second call I made was to Jenn. I knew she would be worried about me and could communicate to the rest of the firm that I was fine. At the terminal, first responders assessed everyone's condition and sent people to the hospital as needed. As we pulled out of Weehawken my history kicked in and I recall it was the site of the famous duel between Alexander Hamilton and Aaron Burr in 1804. Thankfully I left town in better condition than Mr. Hamilton who died of a mortal wound the next day! I
stayed with my sister on Long Island that evening, then flew home the next day.
I am struck by what was truly a miracle. Had this happened a few hours later, it would have been pitch dark and much harder to land. Ferries would no longer have been running after rush hour and it would not have been the same uplifting story. Surely there would have been fatalities, hypothermia, an absolute disaster!
I witnessed the best of humanity that day. I and everyone on that plane survived and have been given a second chance. It struck me that in our work we continuously seek excellence to solve our client's leadership problems. We talk to clients all the time about the importance of experience and the ability to execute. Experience showed up big time on
Flight 1549 as our pilot was a dedicated, trained, experienced professional who executed flawlessly when he had to.
I have received scores of emails from across the firm and I am so grateful for the outpouring of interest and concern. We all fly a great deal or work with someone who does and so I wanted to share this story - the story of a miracle. I am thankful to be here to tell the tale.
There is a great deal to be learned including: Why has this happened to me? Why have I survived and what am I supposed to do with this gift? For me, the answers to these questions and more will come over time, but already I find myself being more patient and forgiving, less critical and judgmental.
For now I have 4 lessons I would like to share:
1. Cherish your families as never before and go to great lengths to
keep your promises.
2. Be thankful and grateful for everything you have and don't worry
about the things you don't have.
3. Keep in shape. You never know when you'll be called upon to save your
own life, or help someone else save theirs.
4. When you fly, wear practical clothing. You never know when you'll end
up in an emergency or on an icy wing in flip flops and pajamas and of
absolutely no use to yourself or anyone else.
And I'd like to add: Fly with gray-haired pilots!

And I'd like to add: Fly with gray-haired pilots!
what a story, I read it and thought myself about clothes for flying... But well done to Pilot, of course, gray-haired pilots...

I'm a tad irramatated (as Will & I would say)....
Don't know if anyone remembers but more than 1 year ago (before we physically moved offices in Dec of 2007) we were told that positions to work from home (virtual agent) would become available in by Spring (of 2008) once phone systems etc were all up & running. Of course I check every so often and answer has always been "not yet", "not cost effective" etc. I've been ok w/ that BUT now the company I do the travel for (Reed Elsevier) just aquired another division & now, magically, we have a virtual agent. I asked the powers that be if that meant now if we (meaning ME) could now work from home & I get this BS (IMO) answer
This is the situation, our phone system at this time is unable to handle another virtual agent. You may wonder what in the world is she talking about, I didn’t ask about the phones. In order for an agent to work from home they would need to have an IPL phone tied into the office via a phone port. That way we can run reports see when the person is logged in and be able to monitor if necessary. Each offices phone system has a certain amount of ports they can use, and currently we are at capacity. With all the stuff that is going on especially with the economy I don’t think we’ll be able to upgrade the phone system anytime soon, to allow anyone else to work from home for now. So there is always a possibility however I don’t think it will be in the near future.
I’m sorry I wish I could say to all – those that wish to work from home – let’s do it, but it’s not that simple. Everything is tied in somehow to the home office and we just don’t have the available ports to accommodate at this time.
While I understand phone stuff (etc) I think it's really cr appy that they are letting someone new to this account be virtual when I've been asking for about 2 years now to do that myself.
I'm a big believer that you treat everyone the same so if you can't do it for those who are capable (work wise) to work on their own at home, w/o having someone hold their hands through out the day then you shouldn't be allowing anyone to do it.
I even started looking at other companies that may have virtual positions (cuz of course BCD doesn't).

You've been asking to do that and they even TOLD you positions would be available for at home work, AND they know you're still interested because you keep checking. Makes me wonder who the new person is and what did she do to who to get the virtual position. Stacy came over w/ that new division (she used to work for them) but is now incorporated w/ all of Reed (so now basically has become part of the collective :rotfl: ) so it's not like she deals w/ only the old division - that's why it irks me.
Well, I do happen know a certain family that is coming down to DL within that 30 days (I do believe), that would love to see you ...

Very cool, Nan! :goodvibes
thanks Holly
I've mentioned that to him. He doesn't believe there would be any reason Tyler would get frustrated and says I'm being completely unrealistic. Here's a recent quote from him (and don't shoot the messenger please): "I will not allow my son to go to a camp with freaks." :sad2:
Wait until that moron finds out I've spoken to somebody about the requirements for Special Olympics to see if Tyler would qualify, since he just doesn't have the motor coordination to participate in sports otherwise. He tries and just gets frustrated.
Holly you are a super star mom for thinking of what Tyler needs rather than what is comfortable for anyone else. I understand what you mean about the athelics. Molly has never been able to "keep up" with others in that regard and it makes her very sad and frustrated. Especially when her little brother can do it so easily :sad2: I hope you find a place for Tyler to feel proud of what he can do. That growth of self esteem is so important. Good job mom :thumbsup2

Monica, I'm so sorry that the work at home thing isn't coming thru for you. I know from doing it myself that it is a good thing. Now I have a suggestion for you. Perhaps....this is a window instead of a door being opened. Not sure if you believe in God in the details of one's life, but I do...I would want to believe that God is making a plan for a bigger picture for you. Be strong and hold on. Hopefully something good will becoming for you in a work way soon. Maybe not at this company, maybe somewhere else???

I'm so irratated that I'm clenching my teeth & I want TO EAT!!!
Take a little walk, or do something else to calm down.
Just remember, there's a good intension behind eating caused by anger, anxiety, etc, we're trying to calm ourselves down.
The key is to find a non-food way to accomplish the same goal.
Besides, don't punish yourself, when it's them you want to punish.

I'm trying to have Faith (both in my company & God) - I've been working for this company since 1995 (minus 1 year when I went to DCL) and it just gets to the point sometimes where I don't think there's any where to go & that I'm not appreciated for everything I do for them (not trying to toot my own horn here, but comparing myself w/ some others in my office.....)
I appreciated not being able to work from home when I was REALLY down - I knew that it wasn't good for me to be alone then, but now I know I'd be ok w/ that.

I was always afraid of trying Imitrex as that seemed to be the last option I had & was worried that if my body got used to that med that I wouldn't have any other options for relief. I used to go to the hospital and get shots of Demerol. About 3 or 4 times in my life I've had one bad enough to need this. One time they gave me morphine and that was HORRIBLE. I thought I was having a heart attack and started to panic, but then the nurse told me that's a common reaction to morphine. I told them to never give it to me again. Scary!

This is exactly one of the reasons that I decided to work for myself. I was very tired of carrying dead weight in an office. The good thing about being self employeed is you get to work all ya want (when the business is good) and keep all the money. I'm watching Lost on Thrusday this week too - since Idol is on for 2 hours tonight. :happytv:
I wasn't blown away by anyone last week - but super happy Tatiana is gone!!! I'm hoping Anoop comes back as a wild card.
I'm hoping tonight is better than last week overall. I think Adam Lambert is in tonight's group and I though he was really good during the audition rounds - don't remember seeing him during Holloywood week though.
OK....I have LOTS of questions about Lost....I don't want to say anything until I know that everybody has seen it. I watched it and loved it but really want to ask about it. Shannon, Jackie, Holly and Lisa.....have you all watched it yet???
I LOVE Adam Lambert. I knew who he was by face not by name. Now I know him by both. He was sooooooo great last night. I also liked Allison the 16 year old red head and Megan the long blond haired tatooed arm girl.
I didn't vote so we'll see who America liked and puts through. I think it's a great group and the top 12 is going to be really awesome.

Just popping in from work to say hi!
Nan - loved the pictures from DL. The 9 and 44 pictures were really original. We won't be there for anybody's birthday, but it could be fun to get the kids to look for their ages, and get some 4 and 7 pictures (Ken - you remember this okay :thumbsup2 )
Deborah - I'm dreading the day we hear swear words come out our girls mouths. Shaelyn knows the words, and she knows they are bad, so she doesn't use them. It was cute last fall when she told me kids at school use "a lot of the bad words, like the f-word, b-word, a-word and s-word." There's a couple b-words and I'm not sure which one she means, but I'm not going to try and find out. I try to avoid using those words myself, but my language has gotten worse after years working in a mill with guys that use that language. In the beginning I started deliberately using some of the words because it helped to be taken more seriously (sounds crazy doesn't it). I really don't like it when people say "my god" or "oh god" or such things. Both girls have picked that up from daycare, and we've squashed it. Instead Shaelyn started using "my word" which she must have gotten from one of her teaches. Kaleigh sticks with the simpler "ohhh, myyy".
Anyway, I'd best get back to work.

::yes:: I watched it on an eastern channel last night, since I was feeling crappy and knew I'd be asleep by 9pm. It was quite the episode. The ending got very intense, and the kids were with me, so I sent them to get their jammies on and pick out their clothes for today, so they wouldn't be watching. I really need to watch that one again next week with the subtitles.

I wasn't even going to say a word this year...since I'm on the upside to 50 :sad2:
Deb, you and John are very gracious to care for Ray as he way your own father. I know you have mentioned that he does have family, and I'm suprised they have not helped on the financial end, but you are a kind soul to do so for him. I hope that the paperwork is on it's way to a good place and will be approved soon :thumbsup2 Good luck and good wishes :yay:
Nan, that's so nice of you to say. I know it's an aweful burden financially for us but I can't throw him to the wolves. He's my mother's husband no matter what. I promised her that I would always make sure that he was taken care of. I'm just doing the right thing.
Ray has a daughter living near Michelle. He had a son, but he died some years ago when Ray was in the hospital sick. Ray wanted a telephone in his room when he first went into Mrs. Bush's Personal Care Home. I said no. I told him that the employees at Mrs. Bush's will place a phone call for him whenever he wants. They put it on his expenses and I pay for it. But then there would be some control. He's not capable of dialing a phone number and who knows where he might have called. He got mad at me and insisted that he needs his own phone. I told him to ask Karen, his daughter, to get it for him and pay for it. Mrs. Bush said it would cost $30 per month plus calls. Karen told her father that she couldn't afford it so he then said that he didn't need it and didn't want it anymore. He listens to Karen but he got mad at me. Karen won't pay a dime for him. So it's all on me.
The part that really hurts is when Christmas came, Mrs. Bush took some of their people, including Ray, on an outing to Wal Mart. He bought cards and wrapping paper and sent Karen a gift that he won at Bingo. He didn't even get me a card. And I paid for the cards, the wrapping paper and the shipping expense for his gift to Karen on his monthly expense sheet. Karen also has not been down here to see her dad since he fell down the stairs in 2003, but he calls her all the time and sends her the cards and gifts. They say that blood is thicker than water. I suppose it truly is so. I do it for my mom, not for Ray.

One sad thought before I go. I've heard about how homes are losing value all over the place. Well, I got something in the mail from our county tax assessor and my house's value is about what an expensive car would cost! Unbelievable! :sad2:
Appraisals and assessments are different. Assessments always undervalue and appraisals usually reflect the fair market value and come in higher. This is good because you only pay taxes on the assessed or lower rate but your resale value is based on the appraisal or higher rate. It's all good.

I miss you guys...just too busy with my mom......:sad2: :sad2:
We miss you too and can soooooo relate to your issues with mom. My mom was near death in the hospital in 2003 at the same time that Ray was in the hospital. It wasn't easy. For the next four years she was in and out of doctors offices and hospitals. She deteriorated a little more each day. The last six months or so the doctors said she had the early stages of dementia. To which she replied, "No I do not. Those doctors are crazy." Then she refused to go back to that hospital. She thought if she went to a different hospital that they would tell her something else. Every day got a little harder with her. I'm actually relieved that she passed before I had to take everything away from her. She had control of her life right to the end and that's the way she wanted it. I cannot even imagine how mad she would be at me if she had to lose control. I'm so glad it didn't come to that.
It's good that you have your brothers to help out. Don't forget that there are many organizations for the elderly that will help also. I know that Ray sees a social worker on a regular basis at Mrs. Bush's. It helps him cope.
Hang in there and know that we're always here for you....lots of hugs and love. :grouphug: :grouphug: :grouphug:

Haven't watched Lost yet - hope to fit it in before Survivor starts - I'm going to watch AI in fast forward afterwards - heck it should only be a 10 minute long show anyway :thumbsup2
We liked Allison too and I loved Adam also. I tried to vote but couldn't get through..

Thanks for allowing me to do that.
Oh Monica....I so know what you're dealing with. When I worked I always felt like I was never appreciated. I worked my butt off when I saw so many others slacking.....yet they seemed to have privileges that I did not. I remember getting in trouble one day for spouting off about a girl that sat next to me. She never did any work, they hired someone to work under her to do her job for her, she took LONG lunches, she took many days off, she got huge bonuses. She was tall, blonde and young. She always seemed to be returning from lunch at the same time that one partner or another returned. Finally it dawned on me that she was earning those privileges and not at her desk. You never know what is going on behind closed doors. There are always reasons.
Just remember that this is probably not the best of times economically to be rocking the boat. So many people are being laid off. Be thankful for the stability of work that you have. If you move to another job you don't know if you can count on that. For now, I would stay put. You can always plan to move on later when things get better for business.
It's frustrating, it's not fair, but it's just business. Hang in there sweetie, we're here for you.....lots of hugs and love to you too.:grouphug: :grouphug: :grouphug:

Holly what's your plan to get back to Law School???
There is no plan. I don't think that's the path for me anymore for a few reasons.
I've reached my lifetime limit for Federal student loans, so I can't take any more out for school, so I'd have to pay them off first. I'd be paying over $100,000.00 and then if I re-started I'd be paying that all over again.
I don't have it in me anymore to stay up 1/2 the night to get my studying done. As you probably know from Paul, it really requires hours of studying every day, much of that in the library doing research when you get further along. So I'd be doing my studying after Tyler went to bed every night because on the nights he's at his dad's I'd be in class. I managed to do it before because I only worked 3 or 4 days a week. I just can't afford to do that now.
I don't have the mental energy for it anymore because I'm always focusing on Tyler's stuff.
And finally, I'm really happy in a job where I have the flexibility to attend school functions whenever I want to.
Perhaps things will change in the future, but for now, my heart isn't in it anymore. Life is stressful enough already. My mom's pretty disappointed in me for this. She actually told me "I knew you wouldn't end up finishing, you've never finished anything". :sad2:

::yes:: I watched it on an eastern channel last night, since I was feeling crappy and knew I'd be asleep by 9pm. It was quite the episode. The ending got very intense, and the kids were with me, so I sent them to get their jammies on and pick out their clothes for today, so they wouldn't be watching. I really need to watch that one again next week with the subtitles.
Now I'm getting back to work.
OK so now I know that Shannon and Holly watched it. I'm just waiting on Jackie and Lisa to check in. Then I REALLY want to talk about it.
The ending makes you wonder which one is more evil....Ben or Charles Widmore. They apparently both ruled the island and want back. Only Locke is in their way. A very interesting turn of events.

This is a big thing on the news lately, not sure if it's everywhere or just locally, but assessments are going down but property taxes are going up. My assessment has gone down $6,000.00 in the 3 years I've had the house and my property taxes have gone up about an extra $500/year. It's crappy. A local radio DJ was talking recently about a process to go through to fight that, so I'm going to google it and see if I can figure it out.

That's a local thing and certainly not a good situation to be in. If they didn't lower your assessment, your taxes would have gone up even more. The amount of taxes you pay has to do with funding schools and expenses. The amount you have to pay is determined by whether or not there are enough businesses in the area to cover costs. If not, it's put on the property owners.
We pay about $2000 a year in taxes for our house. We only pay about $150 a year for our property in Delaware. It's a big difference.

In law school the credits do go away. The ABA requires that you graduate within 5 years (could be 6, I don't remember). And if you've been out for a year you have to start all over again from the beginning. I don't see me ever being able to afford it because it's currently $12,000 per semester for two classes (6 total credits). But I'm done worrying about it for now.
Sadly, ::yes:: credits do go away. For my case I realized that even though I missed finishing by 2 classes, 6 credits of 150, that since it's over 10 years nothing from back then counts now. I got my transcipts and decided they just weren't worth even trying to pursuade my dept chair into having anything count towards my degree. I've also decided that for now to write off the idea of finishing my degree, because it would have meant taking ALL my classes over again and I don't have 4+ years in me to do that today. The history of the Wilderness Lodge was on another thread.
But the Great Bubba stalks on ALL threads...
Hope you made it home ok... I see you were sleeping MY hours...
Holly... remind Chuck that every time something happens... HE will be the one who has to go and take care of it... 24/7... and he can't say he wasn't warned...

Thanks for allowing me to do that.
Rant away, my dear... we are here for you... wish I could help... working from home is nice, but remember that sometimes it IS good to be out among humans...
Of course this is making me not want to do more than the norm (what's asked for of the job) instead of doing extra stuff...but don't know if I can do that.
Going on strike???

Forgot to mention too - I called my dr's office today to change my migraine med from Maxalt to Imitrex....hopefully that'll mean no more 3 day migraines :goodvibes
I take Imitrex - it works really well... it did earlier today... :)
I'm so irratated that I'm clenching my teeth & I want TO EAT!!!
Take a deep breath... you'll be ok... we love you...
this may not be everyone, so don't quote me...
Nan
Wilson
Ian
Sukie
Kathe
Cheri (maybe)
Jackie
Monica
Michelle (not yet booked)
Barb (is she going to come Michelle, or just you?)
Mom said as long as she is healthy (I told her to keep taking either her meds or gin...) that she's IN!!!
Very good Ian... sounds good...
There is definately a problem with working on a phone all hours of the day - you're tied to that desk/phone.....so....Mini Snickers bars (4) found me :rotfl:
I'm trying to have Faith (both in my company & God) - I've been working for this company since 1995 (minus 1 year when I went to DCL) and it just gets to the point sometimes where I don't think there's any where to go & that I'm not appreciated for everything I do for them (not trying to toot my own horn here, but comparing myself w/ some others in my office.....)
I appreciated not being able to work from home when I was REALLY down - I knew that it wasn't good for me to be alone then, but now I know I'd be ok w/ that.
I don't really want to leave BCD - I'm coming up on my 5th anniversary (again) next year & that'll mean that I'll have 4 weeks of vaca plus the option to purchase 1 more. i want those extra vaca days!
I appreciate you all! :grouphug:
Take a step back and a deep breath... think of the good things about the job and the crappy things, try to weigh them out (don't do it right away...) (give it some time...) and do what's the best for you...
I was always afraid of trying Imitrex as that seemed to be the last option I had & was worried that if my body got used to that med that I wouldn't have any other options for relief. (FYI - Imitrex used to be what people got shots of for migraines at the hospital - not sure if this is still the case)
they still have shots, but the nose spray is more common... (it also tastes what like I think Draino would taste like....:scared: :scared: ) But it works...
Deb... I'm going to tell you EXACTLY what Michael said to me this weekend... You do what you do because you are a GOOD person... & we love you for it...:grouphug: :grouphug: :grouphug:

Yup, but the problem is that he doesn't think anything would happen. He doesn't remember that the first time Tyler attempted an overnight was an ugly scene. It was on the cruise in the kids' club. He was devastated when they made him leave.

Appraisals and assessments are different. Assessments always undervalue and appraisals usually reflect the fair market value and come in higher. This is good because you only pay taxes on the assessed or lower rate but your resale value is based on the appraisal or higher rate. It's all good.
Not up here... NY had a ton of assessments last year and they did the selling price as the assessed amount... I guess they didn't think the market would go down... I do believe that that may change...

Don't worry. I had all 4 out at once because they grew in sideways, so they had to knock me out to cut them out. I was only 1/2 conscious for a day afterwards and had plenty of painkillers so it didn't hurt more than the first couple days. You'll do fine.

There is no plan. I don't think that's the path for me anymore for a few reasons.
OH! Poor Holly! I understand completely! YOU are doing exactly the right thing now. Perhaps your mom doesn't understand what a wonderful, magnificent job you are doing when you put Tyler's needs first! Also, since our son, Mike, is in Law School now, I certainly know how much it is costing him and how much reading he needs to do! And the only thing he has to take care of is his CAT!!!!:ccat:I am glad you have friends who support you. And I am glad you have a job you enjoy....that is 99% of keeping your sanity!
Keep up the good work, you are doing the right thing and you know it!!!!:cloud9::earsgirl::tinker:

It sure is a lot of money. Most people take 12 credits (4 classes) per semester, so $24,000 for one semester! And then you're required to sign a contract saying you won't work more than 20 hours per week. :sad2:
Oh, yeah, I know how much Mike had to borrow to go to Duke. Of course, he's not working at all during the school year. He was hoping to get a paid internship for the summer, but so far, no go! Now he's hoping he can get a research job on campus....anything to help pay his way.....I sure hope he gets a internship next summer, it should be easier in his second year. :flower3:
