Just had conformation from WDW that they will not be useing ChampionChips in 2010.
I wish they had said this before they pushed them for the Princess, I hoped to get more than one use out of it.

That's too bad. I bought one for January and got to use it in several races last year.

Do you know what they will be using instead?

They did not say, but I think it will be the D Tags as they are useing them for the ESPN 5K.

I read they are using the tags for the ESPN. Figures, just when I am used to using the chip. Oh well, glad I didn't buy one. Can you cancel your order for the chip for the Princess or is it too late?

That really stinks. I was wondering when they would go that way. Most races have been using teh D tag. Cheaper and less time required to distribute/collect/return. Bummer. I love my mickey chip. The still use chips fro tri's but I am afraid to lose/damage the pic in teh water.

I just had a look at the d tag system, looking at how they say to attach them if the number has to remain on the top, I might have some problems....I don't wear shoes!!!! and unless it can be pulled very tight it will spin around. (so no number on top)
Good job its ESPN first, I would hate to do the Goofy, and not get a time, if there's a problem with how it sits on my frame.

I called WDW and they said they were still planning on using them(at least at this moment). I got transferred to VM of someone to see if still selling them?

I just did the ING Miami Half Maratho and they used the d-tag system. Here is a pic of it on my shoe...

Syko, it could probably go the other way - like side to side. maybe use some kind of a rubber band or tie on some that is the closest to the ground. Or find out who is doing the actual timing and ask them. Like my area either uses SplitSecond Timing or AccuChip Timing.

Thanks for the photo Tracy, my DH just looked at it and say that he will stick the back of it to the foot bars, that should keep it up.
He's my "pit crew" so all things to do with the chair are up to him ( he's still trying to work out how to get it on to the roof of the car).....I just crank!!!!!!

I got a call back from Disney Race Mgmt and they said they were not going to use Championchips but failed to say what they would.

Here is a link to using D tags http://www.chronotrack.com/for-athletes/

I've used the D-tag the last couple races and it really was no problem. I threaded it through my laces and then attached it.
I think it makes it a lot easier at the end of the race. No one has to cut the chip off, so it reduces any logjam near the finish area.
We're going to use the D-tag for the Broad Street Run this year.

Yeah, I bought a ChampionChip last year, when I signed up for 3 5Ks that all said they'd be using them. 2 of the races ended up using the Dtags and one (WDW) wasn't timed at all! Figures...

The big race promoter in the Cleveland area has switched to the ‘D’ tags and I have to say I like them better. I own a champion ship form a running series I was in and while less people use them there are still races that do. If you bought one you can probably find local 5Ks and 10Ks that use them. In fact one running series in the area offers a discount on your race fee if you own your own chip. This is only if you register online though so if any of you who bought the chip do local races look out for discounts.

My boyfriend (who does a lot more races then I ever will) was kind of amazed that Disney was still doing chips at a race that size.

I did point out that maybe that was because they were selling "Special" chips???

According to the info on the link provided, you can also attatch it to a velcro on your ankle. That might help with the chair issue. There should be guidelines for wheelchair participants though.

I used the D-tag in one of my local 5ks but I noticed that more and more races were going to be using these instead of the Champion chip so I decided not to buy one for the marathon. I was planning on buying one too so I am kind of glad I didn't. I wonder how it will be at the Princess?
