OH MAN! I think we are all going to celebrate when he finally gets to go! How frustrating, keep us posted hun! And I hope you dont have to move the cruise!

YES!! I think everyone is going to be so glad that they don't have to hear me fuss about it anymore. LOL!!

I have so many ideas bouncing around in my head...if I could get them down on paper and start submiting them to publications, I'd be set! LOL!

I hope you don't have to change your trip...that would really stink!

You should get started!!!

Thanks. Yes, it really would. We've gotten attached to the people we're sailing with, and it would be hard to change.

My mom told me today she is retiring in two weeks. From the post office anyway. She is going back to teaching, but she is going to teach online. The school district over there offers high school classes online for students who need remedial classes or for those working ahead. So she is getting a good salary on top of her pension and benefits too, plus extras like a $135/month stipend for internet access (!) and another allowance for VIOP. Nice! Wish I could get a gig like that.... I guess I am just getting restless. The working at night thing sucks and I shudder to think of 22 years more of it. (Remind me that it is my salary that provides all of our extras like WDW, cruises and the like...LOL!)

Gosh Shell I hope all that mess with Jared gets cleared up soon and it doesn't affect your cruise! :goodvibes

WOW. That's a great set up!!!

Thanks, Jen. I hope not, too, but if it happens, I know there's a reason.

A

Shell: :( that you may have to cancel your cruise.

Well we are in the countdown mode to move... I cant believe it is in 10 days!:scared1: I called and got final read dates for our utilities and now I am just waiting for our new phone number in GA.

My to do list keeps getting longer by the day!!

I did 6 loads of laundry alone today.. love when dh is gone for a week. ( John liked Japan and Taiwan.) did he bring us back anything??? nope.. just dirty laundry :rotfl2:

Woohoo!!!! You'll be a Georgia girl in no time at alL! I can't believe it's gone so fast. I hope you get settled in quickly.

:confused3:confused3:confused3My new cruise apparently has not heard of Patron either.

I thought it was just you guys...

Wow. You hang out with a lot of really uneducated people. Please, please, oh wise one, forgive our ignorance..... :worship:
:rotfl2::rotfl2:

Hopefully, Jared will hear something today. His Gunnery Sgt has been in SC since last week and is back. I'm hoping he will have some news for all of those recruits waiting to leave.

But because of you we all know what PATRON is now. :cool1:

LOL! I had no idea what PATRON was before FatCat!

So I get to work this morning and I get an email from my boss. I am supposed to leave for vacation with my family on the 4th of July. My boss knew this and told me that he was most likely canceling his vacation due to an injury his son sustained while working out. Basically he won't be 'back' until the 6th of July. Anyway, I get an email that tells me that either I find somebody to work that day for me or I can't have off. So there are three other people who can supervise on the weekends so I email them. Two of the three can't do it I'm down to one person and sadly I'm not holding out much hope that she will be able to help me out. So basically now I'm going to lose a day of vacation and I'm going to end up working 6 days that week. :sad1:

I'm just really frustrated. Nobody from the full time staff will help me out because nobody wants to work on a Saturday plus it is the 4th of July.

I feel so horrible for my family because they already booked a hotel room for that night. Now because of me, we may lose the money for that hotel. We can't extend our vacation by a day because my dad has to teach summer school the Monday that we return.

So basically I was really quiet at work today and fought back tears all day.

Did I mention that since I thought I had a vacation day, I offered to work at the Disney Store that morning? Yeah so I call in today (I was on call this evening) and my manager tells me I don't have to work, but she was planning on using me for the morning of the 4th of July. So I end up in tears on the phone with her explaining to her what is going on. I just feel like I'm letting everybody down.

Sorry for the long vent...

OKAY - first things first - BREATHE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I know it's disappointing but your parents know what the people are like that you work with and although they are also probably a bit disappointed, I'm sure they do not blame you for any of this.

There's a couple of weeks between now and then and I think you should be able to adjust the hotel easily without being penalized. Usually you only have a problem if it's somekind of package deal (like Disney!! - and even they will often work with you).

I hope the Disney store was accommodating. She probably didn't know what to do when you unloaded. :rotfl2:

Everything will work out - seriously! You have to STOP taking everything (blame) on yourself. These things do happen. Remember that some of your reaction is due to stress!!

Thank you for your kind words. :grouphug:

Thankfully the last person who I emailed is going to be able to work for me. I called the Disney Store and told them that if they needed me, I could still work that morning. It was so relieved. I was so stressed out last night that I was up crying until 1:30am. I feel better today, thankfully.

However, I have made a big decision - I'm going to start looking for another job. I'm not 100% in love with what I do and it's getting harder and harder to go to work everyday. I will not leave this job until I have another one though. I can't be scared to do it, I just have to go if the opportunity comes up. Another big reason is because I need to earn more money. I can't survive (or even think about bringing children into this world) without getting better pay. It doesn't have to be a lot, but even $5,000 would help. We'll see what happens.

Thank you again for your support. :grouphug:

OH Amy you poor thing.. your boss is a Jerk, but im sure you already thought that too. I used to work for one like that. I would cry everyday going to and from work, on my breaks etc. E at one point told me to just quit and we would be ok until I found something else, BUT Im not a quiter until I know there is something else better waiting for me. YA KNOW. and this was 4yrs ago, so I can fully understand how you feel. Start looking and something better will come that you love and who appriciate you and what you do. And treat you right. Hugs hun!

Amy - good for you. I found that it's always easier to look and interview when you currently have a job. You know that regardless of what happens in the interview, you still do at least have something to hold you over until you find the right thing! STAND up for yourself - you're definitely worth it!!!!

So .... I may (but REALLY hope not) have to change our cruise date. :( Apparently, the Marines are having issues. They are backlogged with recruits that need to go to boot. We have no idea at all when Jared will go now. We do know that he will go no later than Nov. 3 since that's when he swore into the DEP (can only be in there 365 days before going to boot). I'm so frustrated with all of this. As much as I don't want my kid to leave, I'm going to celebrate when he finally gets to go because it's been such a struggle for us.

This mean you may be sailing with the FATCAT!!!

Steeler jerseys or penguin jerseys. ( hint hint.. guess what will be on our Xmas card this year???)

Hi everyone!!!!

Sadly I found out today that one of my bridemaids won't be able to make it up for my wedding. I'm very sad about it, but I want her to get her life in order more. :( My fingers are still crossed that she'll at least be able to make it up here to be at the wedding. (She lives in Florida, BTW)

Going through our registry right now trying to finalize it. It's so much fun!

Hope all is well with everyone! :)

Amy, I'm sorry about your bridesmaid! I hope she can make it up to see the wedding! :guilty:

OMG Reigstries are SOOOO much fun! We didn't do one for our wedding (we eloped) but I had a blast with the kids' ones. I really went overboard on Sarah's!:lmao:

Val: How are you enjoying GA? LMAO, we have more boxes sitting around than you I think!:rolleyes1 (I'm trying to purge old baby clothes and stuff)..I'm glad to hear you guys are getting settled in!

Well, Savannah made the dance competition team this year. That is a great achievement for her at only 8 (last year the youngest was I think 10) but it sure is going to dig a huge hole in our disposable (coughcough-cruise) income. We have to shell out around $1000+ in the next month alone for fees, intensives and all that jazz (literally!)
Of course that is not counting costumes and choreography, competition fees (now she will have to go to four plus nationals) and conventions (which I don't know much about but I'm sure they are expensive) lol...the worst part is we are in for it with Sarah too, you should see her dance! ;)

It is a gorgeous rainy day down here..I'm going to try to get a nap! :thumbsup2

Amy I will be sure to let you know! If the schedule stays the same as last yr, Nationals are in Orlando, and that will be the furthest we go (they stay at the Sawn/Dolphin....yayyyyyy! I'll take two extra nights please ! ;)). I do know though that they have gone to NYC in the past years so we'll see (OMG the cruise fund will be totally depleted if that happens!)

She starts her summer intensives next week and we are really anxious to see what girls are in which divisions. They have really expanded their company in the last few years and this year so far it seems like the younger divisions exploded. I hope some of ehr friends are moving up with her but we were really suprised that she got put in competition when there were two more levels of performance team to move up to..hope all of her friends aren't still back in performance team!

We took the kids to the movies yesterday (we were going to see Up but the times didn't work out so we ended up seeing Night at the Museum 2)...Sarah did not do so good. LOL, I guess she is at that age. She was happy enough just walking around on the ramp into the theater, and they should give her a job since she did such a good job cleaning all the popcorn off the floor! :upsidedow

Today...Ron & the kids are out buying fireworks for the neighborhood show, we will spend the day hanging in the pool, grilling, watching the hot-dog eating contest, it will rain this afternoon, and then we will head over to the Pier in ST. Pete for the big show, then back home for the neighborhood fireworks show! :thumbsup2

Hope you all have a safe and happy 4th! :smooth:

I am trying to get all of my doctor appointments taken care of before my insurance ends at the end of the month. My orthopedic surgery is squeezing me in to get my painful screw removed from my leg on Wednesday so I'm very happy about that.

I'm more sad that I'm not going to see my co-workers everyday. Oh well...when one door closes and other one opens...

You seem to have it all together, Amy, and that's a wonderful thing. I hate that you're losing your job and your co-workers, but I'm quite sure there's a plan in place for you and your life. I'm thrilled to hear that you don't have to change anything about the wedding or honeymoon!!!

I hope that screw comes out easily and that you have no more pain from it!!

Thank you for the kind words. Everyone has been so supportive of me and it makes me feel so good. Last night Dave and I went out and celebrated our third anniversary at Dave and Buster's...it was fun - we played some games and had a nice dinner. Today we went and looked for tuxes for the wedding and even found a wedding band we liked! It's been a great distraction. Today would be my normal 'Saturday' since I work Tuesday - Saturday, so it's not too bad today. Tuesday maybe a little different, we'll have to see.

I'm going home tomorrow morning (I'm at Dave's house right now) to sign the paperwork for the small surgery to get my screw out and then I'm going to come back down and spend the day here. I'm keeping busy, which is always good.

I'll be ok...I just keep thinking about the song "There's a Great Big Beautiful Tomorrow"... I'm sure it's just around the corner. :)

I went in this morning to sign my paperwork to have the screw removed. The entire procedure takes only about 2 minutes! They are going to put my under though, which I am about about, but it should be quick at least. I did get pain pills though I probably won't have to take many if any at all.

Thanks again for the hugs! :)

LOL..this great thread is dying a slow death but it isn't gone yet! :goodvibes

We booked our RCCL cruise this weekend on the Independence of the Seas. It is an 8 night Eastern (awesome! Extra day!) and is going to St Thomas St.Maarten and San Juan plus RCCL's private beach in Labadee Haiti.

I'm dying to go on the zip line in Labadee, supposedly you fly at 50 MPH (and we sure as heck better since it costs $80, LOL)

Anyway it is nice to be all wrapped up in cruise planning again! :goodvibes

Potato pancakes with applesauce and sour cream
Beef teriyaki sate
Scallops wrapped in bacon

Fresh gourmet mixed greens with cucumber, tomato and seasoned croutons with Italian dressing (good seasons)

yeah...RCCL is SO much cheaper, even on the monstah ships. ;) The cruise we are going on in Jan is longer than on DCL (8 nights), has more stops (add San Juan), and for equivalent rooms (D1 on RCCl, Cat 5 on DCL) it is over $1000 less. They're practically forcing me to give them a try!

Thank you! I started my resume today and all of the clearances that I will need in order to apply. I'm actually trying to do a little bit of it right now. The part that I'm having the hardest time with is that my job changed over time. I was first doing marketing/public relations and then more of the customer service/store buying part of the job. So that is what I am trying to figure out right now. I need to put in about my public relations experience since I am applying for a public relations job but I'm just not sure how to include it on it. Any suggestions?

Guess what? I ordered the wedding invitations today!!!!!!!!! :yay: Seems like just yesterday we got engaged! :)

Did you do the pr job first and than switched over to the other postion? If you did I would split the positions on my resume show the timeframe for each position with your former employer.

Yes and no...

Here is the semi-short version of the story. I was hired as a marketing/public relations assistant. After about a year, I found out that my position was grant funded (I didn't know that when I was hired) and they (the powers that be) decided to outsource our PR and marketing department to a company who they thought would do so much better...that was a disaster but that was besides the point. By this time, the CEO (at the time) knew she wanted me to run the gift shop when we moved to our new building so she kept me on and just changed my job description to doing a little bit of PR and marketing but mostly reservations. Over time, the PR/marketing was taken away from me (they hired someone...I'm not going to comment on that person's abilities) and I went to doing reservations and store strictly. So I have really done PR work since spring of 2005.

That is where the dilemma comes in...

On a side note, I haven't been able to post anything since Amy reads these boards but I can now!!! We had a surprise Bridal Shower for her yesterday (Sunday)!! I think we actually did surprise her!! Her sister Beth (her twin) did a wonderful job setting the whole thing up. She had a Cinderalla theme that was just enough (not over the top cutesie but more elegant). She got alot of wonderful things but I will leave the details for Amy to post.

Boy, things are starting to move quickly now - less then 10 weeks to the big day!!! I think Amy is finally beginning to realize how really close it's getting!!!

Hi everyone!!!!

My shower was such a surprise and I was so excited! I was literally shaking! There were so many people there I loved so it was wonderful! One of my favorite things about my shower was that my one bridesmaids and her daughter came up from Maryland without me knowing it to surprise me! I hadn't seen her daughter for over a year (she's now 16 months old) so I was so excited!!!!! We had planned to go to Hershey Park with them today (OMG, it was so much fun to see the baby at the park!) so I knew I would have seen them today, but it was so exciting to get an extra day to see them!

I haven't had a chance to download many pictures, but here are three that I took with my iPhone!

Is anyone (other than Amy) planning on being in WDW in Oct?

I finally convinced ROn (yeah like it took a lot of work) to get more play 3 passes, so we can hit up Food & Wine. (Ok actually it's for Brendan's birthday but you can see where my planning focus is! :rotfl2:)

We're trying to decide between the 11th and the 18th. I know if we wait till the 18th we might get a chance to see Amy & Dave but the other weekend is a holiday weekend, which means more recuperation time from the dri-I mean eating-we will do! ;)

I rather like the MVMCP as I love seeing everything done up for Christmas. It was just magical walking down main street with the snow coming down.

I've been to two. The first one we had a great time. The weather was a little cooler (sweatshirts at night) and we were able to take full advantage of the cookies and hot chocolate. Plus it felt more like Christmas. I was last there in Dec of 2007 and although we had fun, I didn't enjoy it as much more because the weather was so hot!! It was still in the high 80's at 11PM. I think I had one hot chocolate before I left and that was just because it was free and darn it - I was going to make sure I had a least one cup!! :rotfl2:

MagicME: didnt know about the hot chocolate and cookies! good to know!!

and I didnt know about the snow on Main Street!! might be the only snow I will see this year!! (not complaining at all!!)
We were at Hollywood Studios last year with the light display and snow. I could have spent all night there just watching the lights and music!! :)

HI All,

Hows everyone doing. Im sad to announce we are not the mega millions winner... back to work i go tmrw lol untill the next drawing that is.. I "WILL" become a professional vacationer if it kills me.... wait that may make E ad the boys proff. vaca'rs with my insurance money they'll get LMAO.

Its been in the 100's here more like 110's so we went to a pool/splash funzone they have here at one of the rec centers. helped to cool off and just instill in us that we need to start the process ongetting some contractors over to give us estamites for Pools/the backyard.

So that may mean no vacation for the next 2yrs... along with there is more and more talk of E leaving next year for Afgan for a YR (ok going to sound bad but he's been home for a yr-14months and if he doesnt leave soon we may hurt eachother lol were not used to being around eachother this long. He even told his CO if you dont deploy me it could end my marriage LOL, but thing is a yr+ is LONG 6-8months were so used too.. but yr+ with only 2weeks home... is/will be hard, on all of us especially the boys. SO pray that its just a short one, he can still go just not that long LOL)

So that what's been going on in our neck of the woods. Kids are enjoying school, well J is. P thinks its boring cuz his teacher in 5th grade is really focusing on reading/writing as everyone put into her class is lacking in tha area, and his favorite/exelling area is MATH. So since she only does about an hour of math a day.. he's not a happy camper. lol

ALSO, i came by as I wanted to share with you what I found in my inbox today. Im on a yahoo disney cruise group, and they pass some good info from time to time. Looks like they are expanding castaway Cay. Doing some private cabana's (wonder how much that will cost) a new floating water area and more.

He was in Iraq right before our cruise last yr for 8months. Ya the yr would be rough.. but 6-8months were used to doing. That would be welcomed compaired to the yr+ ... we shall see what the marines shell out to us.

I will be sending some pixie dust that it is a short tour. Being that my father was Navy as was my X I do understand the needing to be apart. I still hated every moment we were apart even though we seemed to need the time apart.

I saw the stuff on what they are doing at Castaway. I am hoping that some of it will be completed before we return next October 2010. We are going to tryu to pull off another Back 2 Back. It is in question because I talked Janet into going back to WDW this December to see the lights. Mind you ew took the kids in July. So we are going 2 times in this year.

I will not go more than a month or two at most into debt for vacation so the Back to Back is in question. May only go for a week.

Hope everyone is well, Lois

thanks for the article on CC!! :) that is my favorite place in the world and maybe some time John and I will be able to enjoy the adult only section. ;)

Drea: John travelled 3-5 nights a week for the past year and he has been home since John, I look sooo forward to the days he is going to travel! he just emailed and said I have to go to Germany and Finland in 2 weeks.. my response.. Have fun!!

Janet-- we did Disney at Christmas last year... loved loved the lights!! :) we are going to Disney Nov 20th. first time in Nov for us. Only being 8 hrs away may have its advantages!!

the temp is only supposed to be 78 here... it hasnt been that cool here since we moved. ( the avg has been 87 or higher). did I mention it is raining. that is why the temps are cooler~

Cant believe my kids are in their 4th week of school all ready.

I just want Ron to see this. We were discussing our plans to visit SoCal/DL...which FTR are not until 2012/2013 (LMAO yes we have our vacations all planned up til then)...actually it is mainly becuase he wants to wait until Sarah is big enough to go on everything so she will need to be 4 or 5 but I was trying to push him to go sooner by cautioning him how HOT it is there during the summer which he insists it is WAAY hotter here cuase the humidity. Oh ITA. Ron seems to think a lot of it will be done when we make it back there...I hope he's right! :woohoo:

I know what you mean about the trips. We will have gone twice this year too (with hotel stays which is unheard of for us...I guess I have really gotten bitten by the Disney bug!) plus our cruise for this year (which is in Jan) and then again next year....it's really going to be tough when he doesn't have OT anymore.

I hope if you guys don't do the B2B that you are still doing the Halloween cruise! We are *really* looking forward to that one! :thumbsup2

LMAO...yeah us too.

I told Ron we need to get Sarah a potty and get her going cause I expecct her to be fully toilet trained by this time next year so we can leve her in the club/scuttles and finally get to RELAX some! :rotfl2:

yeah we went...the year before last specifically to see Osbourne Lights and ended up leaving DHS right before sundown cause we just couldn't take the crowds anymore. It was the week after Xmas so it was really bad. So we haven't seen them yet either....Maybe this year.....:rolleyes1

WELL I live South East of Dland. So the temperatures are different. I live in the inland valley about 45min to Palm Springs. It can get HOT here.. But we dont have the humidity..(yet it has been very dry lately but I contribute that to all the fires sucken up the dew) SO I do say FLORIDA is worse (sorry I know how it is to tell a man he's right.. so if you want to lie to him Im good with that LOL). If you go in June we always have that gloom so its not as hot then. There is about a 10° difference at my house and in Anaheim. And if you do San Diego its even cooler cuz of the ocean breeze (man I miss Diego LOL) **btw when you get out here you better let me know so we can meet up for drinks in Cali Adventure.. or WHERE EVER! :)**

Im jealous that you have your vacations planned out.. thats the one issue with E's schedual.. I cant plan anything till we know more... and when we know more the price will have gone up UGGG lol

oh and did you all notice Kid sail free Jan-April 2010 on 3 and 4 night sailing on Disney... all I keep sayng is when they move the Wonder out here by me.. hey better offer that too! LOL yet a 3day caribbean is better then nasty Mexico! lol but ill take it still!

Well no one has posted for a while so I thought I would just happen to mention that it's less than
2 MONTHS
until Amy and Dave tie the knot!!!! :scared1:

Seems like just yesterday we were all celebrating their engagement on the ship!!

That's so exciting!!!!! It's getting so close.

hope everyone is having a good weekend. :)

we just booked a 4 day trip to Disney the weekend before Turkey day. :) gotta love free dining too. we are just trying to come up with a good place to eat.
( we have Le Cellier, Chef Mickey and Crystal Palace). we wanted a Fantasmic, and they were booked all weekend.

Have a great time!!! I will be busy that day, as well. I will be picking up my new Marine from Parris Island. :)

I know if we wait till the 18th we might get a chance to see Amy & Dave but the other weekend is a holiday weekend, which means more recuperation time from the dri-I mean eating-we will do! ;)

Jen - we'll be there for MNSSHP on the 29th just before we leave on our 10/31 cruise. If you're there then, let me know!!!

we found out Fantasmic is only on one day that week... Sunday.. guess which day we will not be at Hollywood Studios. that is just crazy. bummer cause that is our favorite show, but I dont want any parts of the craziness!!

we did book the Christmas party.. hope it is as good as the Halloween party!!

I enjoyed MCMCP, but I will say that it's not as much fun as MNSSHP. You will enjoy it,though!!!! :) After all .... it IS Disney.

Wow. A year is a long time. Sure hope that gets cut short.

I've not checked in here for a while - sorry about that. We've been so busy this summer. Jared left for boot camp this past Sunday, and we're preparing for Jaydin's 4th birthday and our cruise. Now, too, we're making preparations for our trip to pick Jared up the week of Thanksgiving. Thank goodness we're going to stay busy the next 3 months.

I hope everyone is doing well!!!

Well..kindof. We just know this year is the RCCL cruise (which is our 2009 cruise, it was supposed to be the wedding on the Oasis remember). W ehave the Magic Halloween cruise in '10 and plan on doing the Oasis in '11. The plan is the Dream or Fantasy in '12 and then DL. So I guess that actually makes DL in '13 which sounds way too far away. We don't always have our decisions made in time to save money. The RCCL cruise is actually pretty expensive (for RCCL) since we were in limbo for so long wondering if the wedding was off or on the price had gone way up by the time we actually booked it (and we paid it off yesterday....YAY! :yay:)

oh and did you all notice Kid sail free Jan-April 2010 on 3 and 4 night sailing on Disney... all I keep sayng is when they move the Wonder out here by me.. hey better offer that too! LOL yet a 3day caribbean is better

Even biking all over that island you still dont get how large it is till they do that fly over.

Jen im jealouse your all paid up (well not that you paid LOL but that your all set for your cruise)

Chell, 12weeks will go by fast! E wants to know who his DI's are? He wants to see if he was one of their DI's.. that would mean he is old LOL

Since I have no vacation planned nor will i know when i can plan anything... Im looking at stuff for E's CO he started asking E questions and E said I dont do anything but PACK and get on the plain when Drea tells me too ... suffice to say he got all the info and i am now his CO's "personal travel agent" LOL its kind of fun. but planning for my own vaca is till better! I know that, now, his 36-hour stint of no sleep is over for a while. He should have his beautifful hair cut by now, new clothes, and learning his new surroundings. Hello my DDD family! I was talking DCL with a colleague today and it got me nostalgic for our wonderful DDD cruise... thought I'd pop in to say hi to y'all. Does anybody remember this happy family?

http://photos.imageevent.com/aqwphoto/disneycruise2008/small/scan0003.jpg

That be us. :)

We've been cruising Carnival this year and loving it. I didn't think the kids would like it, but they SHOCKED me by saying they like it better than DCL! :scared1: I can't imagine how/why... but they both agree. I understand with Celeste because she had that scary/negative incident on DCL, but Dexter LOVED the Oceaneers Club/Lab... he says Camp Carnival is just as fun. Ooooookay! Carnival is about 35-40% cheaper, so that works for me! :rotfl:

We took advantage of the Mexico/swine flu scare and booked a 3-night to Catalina ($99pp inside) and a 7-night to Canada ($399pp balcony for me and Dexter, $159 for Celeste!!!) - had a fantastic time on both. Now I'm insanely spoiled and don't want to pay even regular discount rates for a cruise... bring back the $399 balcony! :rotfl2:

Our next trip is grownups only... I'm taking Harold to the USC/Notre Dame game in October! We celebrated our 10th anniversary in July, and this was my gift for him. :lovestruc Next up after that is WDW January 13-20 with extended family, and I'm hoping to sneak in at least one little quickie weekend cruise at some point. It's hard to make plans for anything past January, because Harold has multiple surgeries ahead of him and we don't know what the future holds.

That's the downside of the Washington family update - Harold was recently diagnosed with type-II neurofibromatosis (NF2), a genetic disorder that results in tumors throughout the central nervous system. He currently has five tumors - one in the lower spine, two in the neck, and two in his brain. He'll be having surgery in January to have the larger of the two brain tumors removed. Because NF2 is genetic, there is a 50% chance each of our kids inherited the disease. Once we get this first round of surgeries for Harold behind us, we will take a critical look at whether or not we want to do genetic testing on the kids.

We've got a long hard road ahead of us... but right now we're counting our blessings and choosing gratitude. The average life expectancy for NF2 is 36 years, and Harold is 42... at this point, I'm considering every moment to be a gift. And he could well have another 2-3 decades with us - only time will tell.

So... we need to travel! :thumbsup2 I have to be even more budget-minded than I used to be, because Harold lost his job following his diagnosis, but we make it work. What I *really* can't wait to see is the prices for the Wonder's repo to L.A. - I want to take my kids through the Panama Canal! Here's hoping the prices aren't TOO exorbitant (yeah, right... it's DCL!)

That's about it for me... love all around! :grouphug:

Joe and I just came home two weeks ago from a Princess cruise to Alaska. It left from Vancouver and we flew to Seattle and took the Princess bus up to Vancouver much cheaper than flying to Vancouver. We had to fly home from Anchorage OUCH!! at least we saved alittle on our flight out!! Maybe, Disney will do the same since I think they will be r/t Vancouver.

Hi dis family! I have been getting the vacation planning itch lately and thought I would check in on all of you.

I will be finding out tomorrow if I got a job that I really, really want and really, really, really NEED! This economy has really bitten us in the a$# since we own a construction business, so I have been trying since June to get back in with a state job. I think I may have finally landed a really interesting one within the Oregon juvenile prison system.

Sooooooooooo, that means that I will be celebrating by booking a cruise! Not DCL unfortunately. I think we will wait until the baby is 3 or 4 before we go on DCL again. We will be cruising on Royal Caribbean. Just trying to decide whether or not we will be taking the 2 older kids or not :confused3

Also trying to decide between Mexican Riviera or Caribbean. I know that the Caribbean is way more beautiful, but the cost of a flight to FL is quite a bit more for us since we are on the West coast.

Anyway, I haven't read back too far, so i am a little bit out of the loop, especially with those who are not on Facebook.

I hope everyone is doing well. Does anyone have a DCL cruise booked?

Jen, I would still put Disney characters on the magnets! What the heck?! LOL!!!

Arin, I hope you get your job!!!!! I'm still looking for one. At this point, I'm waiting until after the wedding to do a serious job search. I'm just hoping I find something...

Welllll...where you want to be is on the Independence of the Seas out of Ft. Lauderdale on an 8 -night Eastern January 23, 2010!!! That's where we will be! ;)

Airfare aside that isn't really a very cheap cruise for some reason though. I don't know if it is because of the whole 8 night thing or if it is because it turns out it's an Elvis Impersonator Fan Cruise (!!!:lmao:)

Since it probably makes more sense for you to do a Mex. Riviera, of the two ships that do that (The Radiance and the Mariner) The Mariner is the better of the two ships, IMO. The Radiance is about the same size and age as DCL but the Mariner is just a small step below the current super ships (capacity wise.... it seems to have pretty much all the same features except the flowrider) If you get a balcony room try to get one on the aft or the "hump" (if on Mariner) since those afford the best view and largest balcony space (hard to get though). Hope that helps a little!!! Have a great time & keep us posted on what you decide!!! :goodvibes

Yeppers, Halloween 2010! I keep telling everyobody that it is the DDD reunion cruise but I'm not getting much response here....guys....:rolleyes1:rotfl2:

Jen, I would still put Disney characters on the magnets! What the heck?! LOL!!!

LMAO I'm sure I will. They don't do a lot of magnets on RCCL it is mostly CC peeps (and even they usually only put up one) so I plan to put them to shame in true Dis fashion..:cool1: I'm certainly not making a bunch of Elvis magnets..LOL (maybe one....with Stitch! :thumbsup2)

Now that I have my trip report and all my little logos I have been working on for waaaaay too long complete I can throw all my hands on deck into magnet making. I was at work Friday and someones RCCL mailing got ripped and the piece that ripped off was perfect for a magnet I RAN into the office and said '"QUICK! I have to scan this!!! It would make a perfect magnet!!!" They looked at me like I am crazy...which I probably am! ;)

Yeah ... it's quite an unprecedented event for this area. There are many people out of their homes and that have lost everything. Our pastor's house has 4 feet of water in their *finished* basement.

Looking forward to a wonderful, warm and sunny time in just over a month, though. :)

Well...............I GOT THE JOB!!! :cool1:

So, I guess I have to book a cruise now to celebrate!! :woohoo:

I got a quote from dreams for the October 3, 2010 Royal caribbean, Western cruise on the Freedom. To celebrate my 30th birthday which is on october 10th.

Anyone know anything about this ship? I have been reading on cruise critic dot com (no where near as informative as Dis), and I am thinking about getting an aft facing cabin. The balcony's are huge!

I do know a few things that I have managed to pick up here & there..you are right about the lack of info and uber planners on CC. There are *some* Dis-like folks there but in general the atmosphere is way different than over here.

The Freedom is the sister ship of the Independence which I am going on in Jan. (and the Liberty too)...Like the Magic and Wonder they are cookie-cutter similar, with the only difference being the name and theme of some of the lounges and bars, etc. They all have the same features, amenities, and setup.

The biggest planning issue I've had is menus and theme night planning. But I will say that info like that on the Freedom is MUCH easier to come by than the Indy (the Indy spends most of its time in Europe)...however the menus on RCCL are identical fleet wide- no differences int he ships just differences on which menu/theme night is when (based on itinerary of course) So you have to look for Compasses (their version of the Navigator) and menus to try and figure out when to schedule Chops and Portofino (a task I am finding difficult, I think we are going to have to wing it...although with a couple of questions and a lot of sleuthing I managed to figure out how I *think* the first 4 of our 8 days will go. I guess I'll find out later if I was right)

The ship setup is a lot like DCL...adult Solarium forward, the "family" sports pool area midship and H20 zone (kids pool mid and mid/aft.) The Windjammer and Jade (Topsiders) take up a lot of room aft. Drinks on RCCL that are free are tea and lemonade, otherwise you have to buy the soda package (you can bring your own) Unlike DCL you are not allowed to bring alcohol onboard but many smuggle in their checked bags (they have a "bad" room where you have to go to pick up your bag if they catch you...I have read a few funny posts about that, LOL) I don't think we will smuggle on, but we will probably try to bring in the alcohol we buy in port (which they will take that from you too if they see it)

On the cabins, they have a lot more categories but that is based a lot on location so you will pay more for the higher deck, etc. A lot like DCL. A D1 is similar to a Cat 5. Freedom class rooms run a tad bigger than DCL, but not by much. The aft cabins are the best of course (and go the quickest) followed by the "hump" cabins (an area of the higher decks where the design of the ship juts out making those rooms and balconies slightly bigger plus giving a great view). Becuase of the promenade there are only aft and forward stairs, not mid so you might find yourself walking a lot if you are more midship . There is also a ben & jerry's suite which (like a secret porthole/verandah) is a promenade cabin reclassified becuase the B&J cow butt sign is in your window. You get free ice cream everyday to compensate for that though! :rotfl2:

Thats about all I can think of right now, besides the obvious activities on RCCL not available on DCL (casino, rock wall, flow rider, mini golf, ice skating rink). I will obviously know a LOT more in Feb. so watch for my TR. I'm sure I will do one! :)

We did a pay-per-lanyard. I had no idea how it worked last time since I booked so late. I just decided that it would work well to have everyone pay for their own. It worked. Since we got the pocketed/zippered ones, they were a little more expensive, but they are worth it! :)

Hello my favorite DISboards DDD peeps! I've kept up with many of you via Facebook, but I know I've done a bad job at keeping up on anything on DISboards. In fact, I spent time on here two days ago at the DCL main forum, and they were talking about all kinds of things that was so foreign to me that I had to do some research! Nonetheless, you're all in my hearts all the time!

It's been an unusual summer this year. I was laid-off from JPMorgan Chase on June 3. It truly was the best blessing I think I've had in a longggg time. I have not yet been sad about that. So you would think that I've had all this free time on my hands, right? Well, as we all experience, that's not always the case! I've been staying with grandmother since July 2. She had an unexplained knee injury right before Memorial Day. She left to spend 3 weeks with my aunt in the Chicago area in June, and when she got back, she could barely walk. Well she's STILL fighting this. *ugh* FINALLY her specialist took extra steps to find out what's going on. It was clear that he thought she just didn't have any pain tollerance. WRONG! She's now scheduled for knee replacement surgery, but they can't get her in until October 27. *sigh* So I've spent the summer taking care of her, and playing bad-guy making her stay in a wheelchair. As they say, things happen for a reason. If I couldn't temporarily live with her, she would be in pretty bad shape. It's also been a huge eye-opener to see that she's getting Alzheimer's. That's been probably the most frustrating thing that I pray for lots of patience to deal with this change. Although I'm so grateful to help her out, I would be lying if I didn't say I'm also really ready to sleep in my own bed every night and be with my friends in Columbus.

Mom's doing really well. She's lost nearly 30 pounds and counting! She drove me back home yesterday so I could get some scrapbooking supplies at home, and I just couldn't believe how aMAZING she looks! She finally had some tests run to see if she has diabetes, and sure enough she does (all you nurses, you know how you deny the obvious). I think the weight loss has helped her deal with that news. Also, she says she feels SO much better and happy to not constantly be hungry now she's on meds.

Finally, in the process of staying with grandmother, I hurt my back, which is still in pretty bad shape. This weekend I'm fighting 102.3 degree F temperatures with the flu. As some of you mentioned on Facebook, I was this sick a year ago on our cruise!

Cruise. OMG...can you BELIEVE IT?! A year ago this very moment we were meeting up with many of you at Grills! I barely slept 3 hours that night with so much anticipation! So, unhappy anniversary everyone! (I just can't say happy because it's kinda sad a whole year has passed!) Then in the morning, I was so excited to see Amy :bride: and Dave :groom: to congratulate them on their fresh engagement. Now they're on the final countdown to the wedding!!! :goodvibes

Arin, I am *SO* glad that the job came through and it's exactly what you wanted! Things will really turn around in the positive now! Indeed you all deserve that cruise!

Adrienne, you and Harold are always in my thoughts! Your example of gratitude and overall positive energy is something for us all to live up to!

....DDD reunion cruise... sometime in 11 on one of the new ships!! :)

:thumbsup2 Now THAT would be fun!! :woohoo:

Love ya all! :grouphug:

PS: I had my 20th class reunion last weekend. Boy does that sound like I'm getting so old! We had a blast though!! Did anyone else have any class reunions over the summer?

Hello Friends!

I thought I would drop in to wish us all a bitter-sweet anniversary. I can't believe it's been a whole year since we got on the Mickey boat. Where has the time gone?

Kim, you and I are in the same boat. I was laid off too this summer. I spent the time with DD reconnecting. When I was working I would go a week at a time without seeing her. We joined a country club so she could swim and Mommy could work on her tan! Luckily I was given a severance package. I'm pounding the pavement looking for a job, but there's not much out there. I have my fingers crossed something will come along soon. I know some tv people that have been unemployed for over a year! Ughh!

We just got off the Mickey boat a few weeks ago, but it seems like an eternity! We sailed an eastern on August 29th to September 5th and made some great friends here on the DIS. Before that we stayed at Wilderness Lodge for a week. It was our first time there and we really enjoyed it.

We have a cruise booked for 2010, what else but a double dip in August. I'm not sure we'll keep it, it's only 5 days and it's the same price as a 7 day. I know a lot of people are not happy with DCL's 2010 plans. We might jump ship to RCCL and return to DCL in 2011 on Dreams.

Be good all!

Now that really makes me feel sad. We are not cruising this year and I am really missing it. Have plans for next year and we made a trip to WDW in July. WE are also returning to WDW in December. But I really miss my ship!!!

I hope everything begins to turn up. Those that are ill begin to feel well, those in need of work find what they need and everyone will recognize the blessings in our lives. Lois

Hi All!

Wow where did the year go??:rolleyes1:rolleyes1 We have been busy this past year planning Michelle and Will's wedding. Can't believe it will be a year this Tuesday that they got engaged seems like yesterday. In less than 3 months they will be married.

I am returning to the workforce next Monday I finally got a job after a long job search. I had left my last job June '08 and had planned on taking a couple of months off and than I thought no problem I will have another job by XMAS plenty time to save for the wedding well as we all know the economy had a different idea!! I have been babysitting for my great niece who just turned a year Sept 2 since January I think returning to work will seem easy after running after her the past couple of months!!

Joe and I were back on the Magic end of Feb and we are doing another eastern this January. We also went to Alaska the end of August on Princess we figured since I wasn't working might as well get some traveling done. Alaska was beautiful and we will go back just don't know when. I also don't think we will ever see Alaskan cruises as cheap as they were this past season!!

Take care!!

Kimberly...OMG...I am so sorry to hear of your troubles..with being laid off and your grandma! And your back!! :sad2: But I think you are right, it all happens for a reason and as tough as it is I am glad you have been able to be there for your grandma. My grandfather has Alzhiemer's too...it is very difficult. He is in a nursing home but it is still hard. He has good days and bad...you know how it goes, you just do the best you can! Hugs to ya, darlin'! I hope you are feeling better soon!!!! :goodvibes

:goodvibes

Nope, I sure can't believe it has been a full year. I'm sure wishing I was now where I was then...:rolleyes1

PS: I had my 20th class reunion last weekend. Boy does that sound like I'm getting so old! We had a blast though!! Did anyone else have any class reunions over the summer?

Nope..not me but my 20 is a few years around the corner. Crazy. I'm not that old ya know. :rolleyes1:rotfl2:

Ughh!

Oh no, not you too Michele! I'm so sorry to hear that! :guilty:

Yeah, we initally had one of the 5 night cruises in Aug too for 2010 but we have changed it 3 or 4 times now. I think we'll stay with what we've got now but I know what you mean about the price. That is what we are doing with RCCL, we will give it a try and see how we like it and go from there. If we do, then we will alternate RCCL and DCL every other year. :confused3 We are looking forward to the Dream too but don't plan on going on it until '12 when hopefully the prices have gone down a bit.

Hey, one last time for old time sake.... here's your tropical update....

LMAO..I love it!!! :rotfl:

Hi All!

Wow where did the year go??:rolleyes1:rolleyes1 We have been busy this past year planning Michelle and Will's wedding. Can't believe it will be a year this Tuesday that they got engaged seems like yesterday. In less than 3 months they will be married.

That's right...wow. :woohoo:

I am returning to the workforce next Monday I finally got a job after a long job search. I had left my last job June '08 and had planned on taking a couple of months off and than I thought no problem I will have another job by XMAS plenty time to save for the wedding well as we all know the economy had a different idea!! I have been babysitting for my great niece who just turned a year Sept 2 since January I think returning to work will seem easy after running after her the past couple of months!!

No! and you too, Maureen!!?!? I'm glad to hear you are heading back to the rat race. I think it will be a "break" of sorts for you. I know it is for me when I go to work!

Take care!!

What are your dates in January? We are doing the RCCL 8 night Eastern Jan 23-31. Ron already checked if we might meet up with the Magic in St. Maarten or St. Thomas but he said he didn't think we were...but we may be two ships passing in the night..LOL. Have a great time!

Happy anniversary Double Dip Delighters...we were heading to the meet, Sailaway Drinks in hand this time one year ago! :):sad1:

I can't believe it's been a year either!!!! It doesn't seem possible!

There is so much to do for the wedding! It's mostly little things, but things none-the-less. I am meeting with the organist tomorrow morning so hopefully I'll have the ceremony music picked out until then!

I do wish we were all on the Magic again...it was such a wonderful cruise with such wonderful people... :)

10 DAYS TO GO!!!!!!!!

Seriously, I thought I posted to this already but when I came back it didn't show so I hope this doesn't become a double post. Anyway....

What gets done will be fine...what doesn't get done - who cares!! The most important part of the day is that you will be getting married. That is the goal - the rest is gravy!!

So the wedding is technically less than a week away since by this time next week, Amy and Dave will be married. In fact, by this time the partying will have been over and the adventure begun.

So many last minute little things to do. So much is being worked on and "almost" there but not quite.

It's going to be a little strange for me. Dave and Amy are up at her house and will be back tomorrow evening. Amy will be staying over tomorrow and Monday night and that will be the last time she will be here overnight :sad1

I really am excited for them to start their life together but I will miss them (and I never thought I would hear myself saying that!!! :lmao:).

I will update everyone next week and hopefully post a few pictures.

Howdy all!

Just wanted to drop in and say hi, give an update. I have to say this was the best group we ever cruised with and I wish y'all were on our Med cruise in April.

Wonderful to read everyone's good news. So much going on.

Quick update: we're all fine. Since dh has been back there have been no medical disasters. Alex is doing much better, but still requires a few more surgeries to repair his cleft issues.

Oldest ds and I are heading off on a volunteer trip to Morocco in March to work in the children's hospital in Rabat. We'll be blogging out experience and if anyone's interested in following it, let me know, or check my signature. Other than that, not much going on, besides that I stupidly got a facebook account and waste too much time there, and I'm trying to learn Arabic, teach four kids, and teach on ESL class on Sunday mornings. So it's business as usual for team skoi, except dh is home to stay.

Were the Halloween Festitivites good, by DCL- and did you guys do any of your own stuff? We're starting to really get into planning on our cruise. :thumbsup2

Thanks!

I hate it, too. I'm hoping that the TamiFlu will work for all of us!!!

I know!!! After all we went through to get him in, it's hard to believe it's almost over. I canNOT wait to see him.

They were good. I think that trick-or-treating could have been better, but it was fun. The beginning was very crowded because they were taking pictures, too. I think that DCL could have done a few extra things if they had wanted to, but it was fine. We all had a great time.

Glad to hear you got a new computer!!

I know what you mean about 'not happening right now'. We want to save to do Disney this year, but ... not sure that's going to happen.

Jonah had the swine flu as soon as we got off the boat, and my mom had it, too. They are much better, though.

Because all of you went through all the 'crap' I had to deal with when getting Jared into the Marines, I thought I'd let you all know that I am, presently, in Beaufort SC, about 4 miles from Parris Island ..... and Jared graduates from Marine Corps Recruit Training on Wednesday!!! :cool1::cool1::cool1::cool1:Yes, a very happy Thanksgiving indeed. :) :woohoo:

I pray that all of you have a wonderful, blessed Thanksgiving and that you make many memories with your family and loved ones.

Maureen: our priest who is Johns cousin was hospitalized the morning of our wedding... so luckily the priest at the church knew us and stepped in to take over. ( our marriage license is signed by Jimmy too. ). we didnt find out until 12:00 pm..the wedding was at 4:00. ( this was before cell phones too.)

did they have to reschedule their honeymoon too?

I just feel bad for anything that bought and dated for that date. :(

No they didn't schedule a honeymoon. Their rings will have to be redone but the jeweler said no problem.

And now the organist and soloist are available so now we just have look at our quest list since some now can't make it on Saturday and some who couldn't make it now maybe able to make it

This is a BIG bump up the chain! I was just looking at our stats from our cruise, and it's got me to thinking so much about how wonderful you all made this cruise! I swear I think of you all often and hope life is treating you well!!

I'm looking forward to cruising again with Amy (TheDisneyGirl02), Dave (DBK1029), Melodie (MagicMe), Erik (tig82174), Jason (Jasonroo), Sandi (Hoagie Pie), Oliver (OliverOAS), Steffi (FrauP), and Trisha (EyeDisneyCruise) on the WBTA this September. Yet since this is my first cruise after our DDD, I'll be thinking a lot about all the fond memories we made before the cruise and on the Magic together!!

Have a great trip Kimberly and everyone else.

We did have a great cruise. I'll especially remember it because everyone was so helpful and supportive through all of Alex's medical issues and Steve's deployment. Looking back- absolute nightmare, but it didn't seem so bad when it was happening.

Oldest ds says we should've been a reality show that year. He thinks we would have been way better than Jon and Kate plus 8. But I think she's way nicer than I am.

Oh! As an outsider who only knew what you shared (and I think we all knew there was so much more to juggle), I would say that was indeed a crazy, trying year for you! You would have had a following on television, I assure you! You certainly showed your strength...AND kindness! There is NO POSSIBLE WAY that Kate would get the Woman and Mother of the Year Award before you, Julie!

I'm so glad you guys had a good cruise as a complete family earlier this summer!!

I think Ron actually had a couple of the dates narrowed by using the port sites to figure out when the Fantasy would be there. One of the was September, one was 2 weeks later but I don't remember if that one was Sept. or October. Both were Easterns.

I'm sitting at MCO right now still in disbelief that it's over, yet at the same time, in disbelief just how perfect our weather was for all but 2 hours on one day as well as our overall experience!! I started crying Friday night at the thought of it all being over and leaving my old and new friends. In fact, writing this is still tearing me up. I'm so thankful that I got to kick my bucket list a few times in the past 2.5 weeks!

Castaway Cay was fantastic!! Since there were only around 236 kids on the cruise, the new and old family beach was just perfect to try out!! I was surprised at how rocky the new beach is, however. I mean it was REALLY painful to walk out into the water. We were told that the Wonder didin't make it there this past week due to weather, and in fact, Wednesday and Thursday the island was in lockdown due to very very heavy rain and winds. For a period of time, the Magic couldn't even get ahold of those living on the island to see if we would be able to come. It was simply beautiful the whole day!

Well, obviously there's lots more I could share, but I do need to check in on the WBTA thread as well (Yep! You were first!) before I have to log out to get on the plane.

OH! Tiffany, I just LOVED seeing your work all over the ship!! The buckeye Mickeye ear pilowcase you made me was admired by many! I got Capt. Thor and Ducky Williams to sign it in addition to the characters. I'll be sure to share the picture I took of it before I left my stateroom so you can see it!

....Can't believe it has been two years. Wow two years ago Michelle and Will were getting engaged on the Magic and in a couple of months they will be celebrating their 1st anniversary where does the time go?....

I thought about you grabbing me outside of Lumiere's to tell me the thrilling news and have Michelle show me her ring while we were on the Magic the last two weeks!

...I wish they would just go ahead and announce the 2012 dates already! It makes it very hard to plan when they keep us on hold like this. :lmao:

I'm making quite a few FE's for your shipmates. You'll have to tour around and see them all....

It DOES make it hard to plan without those dates! The rebooking lady on the Magic said that she thought she would see the dates very soon, but didn't define any dates. I'm sure that the 18th rumor is true though.

I have to say, it was one of our best cruises, even though dh was in Afghanistan.

We'll be doing a Wonder in December, then in summer 2012, when oldest dd is old enough and depending on prices (and yeah I know there are no low prices in the summer) we'll be celebrating her graduation from high school, probably on the newest ship. A few more family members will be joining us, and maybe some friends, and any of you who want to come. I'm not paying of course...

So everyone take care.

Oh- Alex had another surgery a few weeks ago- another in the series to correct his cleft palate. Thankfully no issues, complications, and the doctors (plastic surgery team at St Christopher's in Philadelphia) were above excellent. Huge difference from the surgery of horror and the recovery that was even worse before the double dip.

Yippee!!! I hope that we can make it all work and that all of us can make it!!!

We're heading to WDW the first week of Nov. Can't wait!! :) No cruise scheduled any time soon.

My January Meets thread is a whopping 4 pages long. :confused3 I miss you guys!

Oh my. That's SAD!! :)

Yep, we are on the Halloween Western!

That's the one we took last year and the group that is also going to reunite on the 2012 cruise. :) :)

SO glad to hear that Alex is doing so well and that the surgery went well.

It's so good to know that this group is still here and that we continue to connect.

Can't wait to hear when we're going to reunite!!

The WBTA was fantastic! I'm trying to figure out how to get the pictures from my camera onto the computer...sadly a 5 year old could probably figure this out faster than I can! LOL!!!!

I'm hoping to do a trip report - however, I'm also hoping to find a job soon too! If I do one, I'll let you guys know!

It was so nice to see this thread going when I logged onto the Dis!

There are a number of us who have booked the Fantasy on 9/22/12 Eastern. Anyone else want to join in on a reunion Cruise? Looks like it could be as good if not better than this last one. What do you all think? I will be looking for you. Lois

We will take good care of her. You and yours will be missed as well. I am sure your cruise will be almost as good as this one.
