This is Thread #18 of the BOB threads.
If you're new to our group, you're not alone. Several of us have sailed together before (on the 10/20/07 Western Cruise - a.k.a. Konked Kruisers) and several more are new. To indicate the ones new to the group, we have put an * infront of their DIS name.

The following is the same as the other first posts. For those of you new to our DIS Meet thread - WELCOME. There is plenty of good info in this post.
As usual, I'll be back here to update this post periodically. I will try to keep important information up here for all to reference as well as for all our new friends who come to cruise with us. If something of importance comes up, PM me and I will add the link.
We have dubbed this cruise "The Bash on the Boat" because so many people are celebrating birthdays or anniversaries on this cruise. You will also see "KK2" in the title. As you will read, many of us just sailed together on the 10/20/07 Western Cruise. So, with many of us returning here, we are dubbing this KK2. For those of you who didn't sail with us, please don't feel that you are not part of the group. We are a very open and welcoming/friendly bunch. We had such a great cruise last time, but feel it will be even better this time. Come along and enjoy the fun. We will get off-topic many times over the next 2 years, but it is a great way to get to know everyone.

Incase anyone is wondering what the FO game we play here on the B.O.B. cruise meets thread, Jen gave a good explanation of the game:
FO is a game (for lack of a better description) that was started on the Konked Kruiser thread that some of us belonged to for the October 07 cruise. Don't ask me who started it or how, I joined that threead late.
Anyway, the game in a nutshell....if you post, and your post is the beginning of a page, then you try to get the second post on the page also. It means you have started a "Fresh One" or "First One" (I forget what the actual term was).
Now, this isn't always as easy as it seems - if there are multiple posters on at the same time, and someone else gets the second post, you don't get to "claim the FO". The 40 second rule between postings comes into play.

Signing up for the new thread!
And, I thought I'd repost what I was sending before the jump... about Build-a-Bear and pirates!
With all the talk about Build-a-Bear and pirates, I have to add our pirate bear story. We had a birthday party for Megan and Sarah at Build-a-Bear (2007, I think). We ended up being able to make an extra bear for the price we paid. All of the girls at the party helped make a bear for Matthew. He picked out the pirate outfit and dubbed him Captain Dave (using his middle name for the bear!)
The girls always choose a Build-a-Bear animal to bring on trips (we probably have 20!) So, we'll have to see if we can squeeze Captain Dave in the suitcase for the cruise!
Also speaking of BAB.... Has anyone else been to the T-Rex restaurant at WDW? The theming and the food are fantastic. Plus, they have a Build-a-Dino area in the shop. It is a Build-a-Bear cousin...not a knock-off. Our girls made the cutest dinosaurs!

Good luck Cass! Watch out for Build A Bear - they have a device that will suck the money right out of parent's pockets (they do this while the kids are watching their bear get stuffed!)
Once you get done with all the accessories it costs a small fortune.

Build-a-Bear is a really cool place, but as someone else mentioned, it does end up costing more than you expect! The clothes are cute, but they have shoes for the bears that actually cost as much as kids shoes at Target!
As I said, we have quite a few and they don't all belong to the kids!:)

I do have to say, our hotel seemed very Disney-ish in Playa. I would put it on par with a Moderate like Dixie Landings or Caribbean Beach. The pathways totally reminded me of those types of properties. They also had several people continuously cleaning around the grounds, probably more so than you see around Disney.

So, anyone care to see pictures of our trip? I know it isn't Disney related, so I can PM them instead of posting them here.
Welcome back, I would love to see pictures.:cheer2:

Very cold here today but at least we're prepared for it. I feel bad for those of you in the south who don't have as many resources for keeping warm.
Re Biggest Loser: It definitely was the right choice even though poor Carla paid the price. The brown team has tried harder. Still don't understand how Joelle lasted as long as she did. Wouldn't it be something if Carla came back at the end & won the 2nd place prize!!!!

BTW...it's raining here today, but I know that some parts of South England got more snow last night.
I hope AFEG landed safely yesterday and he was dressed appropriately. He would be freezing if he had shorts on when they arrived back.
I got off the plane in Chicago last night with my shorts and crocs w/ no socks last night. It was only 10* F air temp (below 0* w/ the windchill). It was mighty cold last night. However, they're talking about 40*+ this weekend. :cool1:
We heard about all the snow England was getting. Even with it, the flights this week from there were on time surprisingly.

Allow me to explain your cold weather.
When I got on the plane to come home, I had this conversation:
Flight attendant: How are you today?
Me: I am fine. How are you?
Flight attendant: I'm fine too except for the fact that this plane is going to New Jersey!
Me: Oh, yeah? Well, I brought the good weather down with me and I can take it back with me. (70's and sunny while we were there, have pictures to prove it!)

Good morning everyone. I woke up this morning with Mel on my mind.
Mel, are you around here somewhere? I am wondering if your brother is still deployed? I had an appointment at Walter Reed Army Hospital yesterday, and as I walked in the door, the sights I saw reminded me that even as my life goes on and on, there are men and women who have their (family) life on hold and are fighting in a war. So, if you're reading this, Mel, please know that your brother, and all other deployed service members (UK & other countries, too) are in my prayers......

Oh, we had the "experienced" crew on our United flight yesterday. The ORD-CUN-ORD route must one of the preferred ones for the seniority members. Figure, they're flying down with people going to a great vacation spot and coming back with people who had a nice break from the cold. Can't ask for better clients.
I do have to say the service on United was really good. Better than any airline we've been on in the past few years. Will definitely fly them again (this was our first flight with them).

The King Cake recipe looks fabulous! It looks like something nice to make for the office for Fat Tuesday (is that OK?) Just one question - where to you get the baby to bake into the cake? Does Michaels have stuff like that?

Oh, we had the "experienced" crew on our United flight yesterday. The ORD-CUN-ORD route must one of the preferred ones for the seniority members. Figure, they're flying down with people going to a great vacation spot and coming back with people who had a nice break from the cold. Can't ask for better clients.
I do have to say the service on United was really good. Better than any airline we've been on in the past few years. Will definitely fly them again (this was our first flight with them).
Boy am I glad to hear that! We are flying to Hawaii, in first class, on United in September, to celebrate my parent's 55 wedding anniversary. They had the cheapest fare and the best planes (777 from O'Hare to Honolulu) so we went with them. But I haven't flown with them for a long time, so I feel much better now.

We were pleasently surprised. Suz was counting the number of times they came through the cabin offering stuff, taking garbage, and just their overall interaction and attitude.
We have not seen it like this in quite some time. Not sure if all flights with them are like that, but this one sure was. I'll have to ask my brother if this is common all the time. He flies them constently (3-4 trips to Asia a year and all other domestic trips).

Morning. Well #18. Thought we would start a new thread last night. I'll have to back and read the last couple of pages. We'' done BOB'ers.
Cass, they have a great Build-a-Bear in DL. I think it's the only store where you can by Disney outfits for Bears.
Cool! I think we may try to get down to DL next year, much cheaper for us and Kira will be at the right age for the bears, I will make sure we stop :thumbsup2 :cool1:
Sorry Cass, missed the post about Kira. Hope she's doing well.
No problem, she just had a reaction to something and we ended up at the ER. She's ok now :goodvibes
Not mad, just that a little bit of cold doesn't affect me too much when I'm so warm. I did put my jeans and socks on before I walked out of the terminal though this time.
I'm like that when I get back from vacation too! I am wearing crocs and shorts all the way home! I get the funniest looks from people :rolleyes1

I posted this on the other thread, but I want to re-post it in case Mel is lurking....
Sorry to be a little sappy this morning, y'all, but yesterday was an eye-opener for me......
Y'all have a great day!
Ditto from me too Mel. Well said Sistah. :thumbsup2

I only flew United once to Chicago and back. I really enjoyed listening to the cockpit/tower chatter on one of the channels. That was enjoyable. One thing that startled me though. While taxiing, I hear the O'hare tower come on and say, "United 153, you're that blue one down there right?" I thought to myself, "we are at the busiest airport in the world and the tower is identifiying us by our color?" How many other blue planes are there!

I can't fly home in jeans and a sweatshirt from a warm place. My body is heated up from a week in the sun, the plane will just be too hot (figure it sits on the ground in Mexico for at least one hour before coming home).
I'm always cold on night flights, so I make sure I change at the gate before we board.

Just in case anyone is interested I'm posting a link to some Sunscreen Soap that I've been using. It only offers an SPF10 but it's better than nothing in these winter months when you may forget to use your sunscreen normally.
http://www.bethesdaskincare.com/product_info.php?products_id=65
Heather: While thumbing through a magazine I found an article concerning roses that you may be interested in. (It was right next to the article about the soap).
"To pep up flowers in a flash, just put the cut stem ends into an inch of boiling water for about 20 seconds." :flower3:
Yep...that will do it. Some flowers get air blocks in the stems and the water doesn't reach the head. Doesn't work all the time though. Make sure that you always recut stems after you buy them and before you put them in water.:flower3:

Didn't choose the Ocean Front property. We did have a beach club though and could use 2 other properties in the hotel chain that were on beach.
Our hotel was a better property though.
We actually had more fun at the pool than at the beach. For the hundreds we saved, I'd stay at this property again.
I do have some beach pictures somewhere, so I will put those up too.

Actually it wasn't a bad deal for that trip. But the money saved will pay for another airline ticket back there again. :cool1: And I think AFEG will agree, we'd go right back there. Plus, AFEG really isn't a beach person so it worked out fine. Also, the water in Playa always seems to be rough, unlike the Pacific side (but you won't get the nice blue on that side).
All in all, for a week in a tropical location, I don't need the water front. Think of it as if I went AZ or Las Vegas, no beach there. Although, there were some sights on the beach worth seeing if you know what I mean.

Riu Tequila - it is in Playa del Carmen.
There are two other Riu's that we could use down there, Playacar and Yucatan. Walked through both. Playacar I didn't like. Yucatan was nice but there pool area wasn't as good as ours. Same type of set up as our hotel at both with several buildings on the grounds. The Yucatan would have been about $500 more for the 3 of us.

Our 30 years I think are in the low to mid 5% right now. To lock at that rate for long term is good. We are 5 years into a 30 year mortgage. We too started with 1/2 our house owned by us.
As for 12%, I for one, since I'm locked, would love to see interest rates go back up to double digits. I would put a ton of money in long term CD's earning that rate and set for retirement. Sad thing is, I don't think it will be out of the question in the next few years. :sad2:

Bernie - I feel your pain.... Neil went to 5 differnt bathroom supplies last week hunting for a replacement tap screw - imperial measurements... nowhere had one and he'd travelled miles.... he got home and then realized he had the metric equivalant in his tool box the whole time:lmao: :lmao:

What about early January...the lights should still be up?
DS is back in school. We try to not pull him right after a long break. End of January, beginning of Feb is a good time. I would like to try though for the second weekend in December some year. Just hope her boss would allow it.

I'm still here. For some reason I thought it was 10pm.:upsidedow :crazy2:
:rotfl:
Got that one figured out already. But I'm not telling my trick.
I've done it already but it is frustrating...I had a fly swatting one the other day but I've lost the link.
Jeff was not trying to steal one, so nothing to fear. :thumbsup2
:goodvibes and why is Jeff talking about himself in the third person Karen wonders:scratchin

We pay off extra every month on top of our usual payment, if it stays low we can pay the mortgage off much quicker:thumbsup2 We did at the last house - we had no mortgage within 12 years... going back to 30 years was quite a shock:scared:
Not me. At 5.125%, I'm holding it for the term. Even with the down turn in the market, I think over the life of the loan, I will earn more than that by investing the extra. Plus, the house will increase in value (we haven't seen the heavy hits like the coasts have here in the midwest - and hopefully won't).
It will be done when I'm 65, but I will probably sell it and move in my late 50's to a condo. Once DS is out of college (hopefully by the time I'm 55), I will look for a place for retirement.

If this was just for me I would have settled for duct tape by now.. lol but it is for work (I am purchaser) and they "have" to have the right one, something silly like "paying customers get what they want" or something weird like that lol
you know when you spend $10,000 on something it makes me cry.. cause I have a MUCH better use for that money.. like a 3 week cruise or something..LOL
if only I could convince the company to just trust me and pay the bills I give them..LOL :rotfl2:

Me no likey Suz' boss:sad2:
This one is better than her last one at the company. It is much easier getting time off. The last one was really hard to get the o.k. out of.
