Giving us a bump up as most of the chatter even about this cruise is on the Blabbermouth thread (once a blabbermouth always a blabbermouth). :)

I wouldn't say Nassau is one of my favorite ports but this cruise is about more than the ports. :bride::groom:

Still Stacey has found a firm to go snorkeling with, Jim has a good review of the Segway tour, and we were thinking of heading back to Atlantis as we haven't been for a while. Decisions, decisions, decisions!

Now this is just plain freaky - I had not even logged onto the thead when you posted this. And yes, the house will survice fine, but the Mother will be a few says shy of 90 when the kids are hitched and she will not survive on her own - to say nothing of the pets....so hence we are nervous about booking during the windy season. Long weekend coming for us. It's Fiesta Days again. I can't believe a whole year has gone by.
So we start with the parade in the morning, a mid-day rodeo performance, one again that night, and another on Sunday.
At least we got the wind out of the way last weekend, so we don't have arena dust (and cow pies) blowing in our faces. I hope!
I usually look at it as an opportunity to get good pics, especially of the bull riding, but not taking the big camera. I'm going to test out my new underwater Olympus. I haven't had much chance to "play" with it. Need to learn all the settings before the next cruise.

I've actually been looking at them for Nassau. I know that there is beautiful snorkeling in the area, but the ships' excursions just don't take people far enough. I'd already decided that this is who I want to try to book with.

I thought about that after I asked about Bear and Hedgie. Poor Pooh hasn't had a trip since Jared hit his teens. I might be able to smuggle him away.....even though (ssshhh...don't tell anyone) he still has a prominent spot near Jared's bed. I'll have to locate his awesome pirate costume.

I wonder if you book with them but not through the ship, if the dive/snorkel is a better package?

yes. Matt and I did our shark dive with them. Easy to use. It is the full day. They pick you up at the dock and will bring you back. I think we got back at 5:30 or 6. At that time we had early dining and we were late for it.

Frankly, unless you are doing some special dive, diving in Nassau is not worth it. Your reefs are much better then Nassau. We loved it because of the shark dive. I want to do their wall flying and will be looking into that.

So are you saying it wouldn't be a good snorkel trip? I thought it looked like it would be worth it, and fun, too.
You need to remember that we don't need to see the exotic stuff or be thrilled by sharks. We're happy as long as there are some colorful fishies to look at.

Also remember that for some of us, going down in these gizmos is as close to diving as we get. :thumbsup2 Like Stacey said, long as there is fun sights to see we're happy.

And what is this 'your reef' stuff, if there's a reef in Lake Michigan, I don't think anyone could find it if they wanted to from what I've heard of the visbility down there. :rotfl2:

The only way to book with Stuart Cove's is through them. We did a snorkel with one of the ships' excursions one time and it didn't even take us out of the harbor where the ship is docked. The most interesting thing we saw there was an old tire.
I don't know if they would combine the snorkelers with the divers. We did it once in Costa Maya, but they took the divers in a separate boat, so they could go further out.
The way I see it, anyplace away from the port area in Nassau would be worth a try, otherwise, there's no point in getting off the ship. And I refuse to be docked and not get in the water.

I know you divers "have to" dive...it's something in the blood. But for the rest of us, I think this looks like great fun if a bunch of us booked it, even just to sail out, get wet, have some lunch and enjoy eachother's company.

SC has lots of boats that leave from the same dock and they have lots of different types of adventures. They even have a hard hat type of dive.

Snorklers and divers could all ride over together.

Nothing really....just trying to confuse us people who have no dive sites.

The only time we had good snorkeling at CC was when we took the excursion out to the shallow reef. It was really good. But we headed out there another time, seas were too rough, so we ended up at a different one that wasn't nearly as good.
At Serenity Bay, the only interesting thing I saw was the two slugs mating.

Sharon, Kaylah and I have signed up for it for next month. I hope they don't end up canceling it. And I hope we get to go to the "good reef".

I'll never forget Jared going around telling people that there was a "huge" barracuda in the water....:rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:.....half swam quickly back to the boat, the other half wanted pictures!

In his defense, he thought people would be interested. He didn't realize that it would scare some people.

Serenity Bay can certainly change. The above shots were late April and we were able to walk out to the area. In September of 05 we were at CC right after hurricane Opelia went through the area. Walking in only about 10 feet and the water was up to my neck. Couldn't see anything in the water because all the sand was churned up. So you never know.

You have more bathrooms, that's for sure. We'll have to measure and see about the balcony size though. Mine is the one they let the people with service dogs have. If I brought my dogs, we could play fetch out there.
Bathrooms are more important during a wine tasting though. Definitely.

Thanks for volunteering, by the way! :thumbsup2

This is it....well, the one on the opposite side of the ship anyway. But more bathrooms is still better.

Speaking of bathrooms, I've seen the inside of one of those when we sailed with Sue (dobelover) and her mom Jean, it has no tub and the shower is ground level so you can roll the whole wheelchair in if necessary. And that balcony is gigantic!

I've seen the inside of some of the other HC rooms, and they are pretty roomy. Just haven't seen this one yet.

In all of our cruises where we DID have a tub, I never once used it...except to rinse and store snorkel gear. I'm a shower person, so I won't mind just having a shower.
Jared and I were in 7638 last June, and I loved the seat in the shower....it's great for shaving my legs, but was even better just to rest on after a long day. The old knees and feet get to the point where even standing in the shower after a long day is too much. Which is part of the point of having an HC room.

Hope your knee feels much better, I know the shots are not easy, but you will be glad you got them as you are kicking up your heels next month on your cruise.

Really looking forward to seeing many of you again and meeting those I have not yet met.

Wow, sounds like there are all kinds of people getting nice rooms for this cruise. I'll be happy with my usual cat 11 or 12 since we usually hang out with everyone else anyways, we get to use their fancy porches :thumbsup2

Finished our Search and Rescue training yesterday... 58 hours of training over two weekends, now I need to catch up on everything else in life.

Weather is crazy as usual... thunder and lightning now with flash flood watches and high winds. The past two weekends there have been some massive thunder storms that rolled through and just pounded us with rain (and hail in some spots). We were come back from our SAR training during both of them. The first weekend we made it back before the water got too bad. This past weekend we got stranded at Sonic for about 2 hours to wait it out. There was over 3 feet of water in some of the roads.

Anyway, early morning tomorrow, I'm going to bed.

Sharon and I arrive late (11 pm) on the 22nd, and sail on the 23rd. We have a car coming to the hotel (Hyatt at the airport) to take us to port, so we won't be near the port that morning. With three girls in one room, it'll be a miracle if we're dressed and ready for the car....let alone breakfast.
Coming back on the 30th, we have an early flight, so we'll hop off the ship, get to the airport a.s.a.p. to catch our flight.

One of these days, I'm going to make our overnight reservations AT THE PORT. I never think of it, but it would be nice.

Here is what we've done the last two times we stayed at the port (the blabbermouth cruise and our April '08 cruise with Karen and Mike). We get a car at the airport for a one day one way rental. We then drive to the port area. Both times we stayed at the Hampton Inn. It is nice and clean and you can walk over to the beach. In '06 we then drove over to Grills the morning of the cruise to meet up with Monica and Laura's families. After that we drive to the port where Mark drops me and the luggage off, then drops off the car and takes the shuttle back. Easy as can be!

Hampton Inn isn't the closest to the port but we like the walk on the beach. It is close enough that you can see the ship from the upper floors.

We use Avis which is very close to the port and easy to find. The reason we do the drop at the port first is that way only one person has to make it on the shuttle which can get crowded.

Now if you have a driver like Garry then you are set! :thumbsup2

I recommend Grills for breakfast but Jim might have better ideas being the local. We like it because when you walk out on their deck you can see the Magic!

I'm not GaRRy but I marked it on the calendar - tentatively....

So what time is breakfast - which translates to what time do I need to get up in the morning to make the trip? Or do we need to bunk down with you as well?

We rented Budget for the P/C cruise - we were going to drop the luggage and head back to return the car, but we were early enough (As NOBODY came to wave US good-by) to take the shuttle.

As for the hotel, we have stayed at the Radisson, the Best Western and a new hotel??? Big help I am, but it was not on the beach. Hedgie wanted to stay at Ron JOn's but we don't take advantage of the amenities with a one night nod and drop routine.

WAIT A MINUTE - if you are here the night before does that mean that we can go to JBs??????

Update - Sam is ready to get back in the water but so far it is a no go with the MD. His next visit is the 11th, so we will see what the verdict is then. The wound is not yet healed. But it is getting better. So let's hope the MD says he can get in the water on the 16th or the 30th - right???

:scared1::scared1::scared1::scared1::scared1::scar ed1::scared1:

I guess it depends on how busy the place will be....we don't need to be at the terminal early, we'll board with the other handicap people.....and we're really close, right?

Doesn't 8:30 seem like a more reasonable time for breakfast? Or even 9:00?

WDWLVR
04-29-2009, 01:36 PM
I thought I read on the main board that they don't board the handicapped separately any more. I could be wrong.

I don't think we met up at 7. Monica or Laura could correct me if I'm wrong. I know Mark and I went out for a walk on the beach that morning before meeting up. Then I know when we were finished with breakfast we went right to the port and it was just abour ready to open so maybe 9:45 or so. I'd say 8:30 would be a good time especially if you aren't in a hurry to get to the port.

Irene, I don't know if this will help or hurt....and I hope gaRry's paying attention. We changed our incoming flight so that we WON'T be arriving at 11:00 Friday night.
We're now coming from Phoenix, through San Antonio, arriving at 6:30 pm on Friday night...Southwest Airlines.
So maybe there will even be a DINNER meeting!?

Meanwhile, breakfast time for me is important as to whether I drive up the morning or the night before. Unlike Jim, I do not get on the road at 4 am to meet friends at 7:00.

That just takes all the fun out of it. Waking Sharon up at 4:30 am to go to breakfast is like poking a lion with a stick.

You name the time and we will be there. I'm easy.

If it is late enough it will give us time to run in the morning.

Sam's up for a meet - And like Jim he has no problem at getting in the car at 4:30 AM - after all, he says that lets him sleep in :rotfl: Me, I am like Sharon - St. Peter could not get me up that early ------

But now it is 6:30 pm - which means with luggage etc, you will be in Cocoa about 2 hours later....

hum......

Maybe I had better get a room......

Will check and find something the Hedgehog would like -- you know - tacky!!!!!

Mark and Mary - thanks for the info on Grills - I have heard much favourable news but have never been there.....

I cant wait... it's starting to get really humid here, we've had 3 freak thunderstorms in the past 3 weaks that dumped insane amounts of water. We got stranded in one of them for a couple hours waiting for the water to go down so we could make it home.

I'm busy at work, even busier at home, going not stop 18 hours a day and still cant keep up with everything.... I'm too young to be this warn out and I this cruise just cant get here soon enough!

Welcome to my (flooded) world!! There have been times that we can't cross the creek to our house, or from the house...for DAYS! Pain in the neck, isn't it?

And you're right, you're too young to be so worn out. That's what you get for being a rocket scientist with a stressful job.

TWO hours??? Really? I thought the bags came down pretty quickly. Why was I thinking it may only take an hour to get to the hotel?
We'll be starving by then!

Maybe Sharon, Kaylah and I should eat something in the San Antonio airport (if it's even big enough to have food!) and then we can just sit and talk when we get to Florida?

Hahaha... posted that in the wrong cruise thread... This cruise wont be here soon at all! As a matter of fact, it can take its merry time. We have a bit of planning to work out before then. :groom::bride:

I would suggest that since you are getting in that late that eating at the airport (San Antonio or Orlando) might be the best option. It would be pretty late to get to JB's since they are like another 45 minutes away (or so I don't quite remember).

One thing to keep in mind is there is a nice seating area at the Hampton with tables and chairs (they do a hot breakfast). There are also beverages available including coffee with creamer. :) Great for a DIS get together or a game of LRC.

I changed our flights so that we arrive at 6:30, but it's still late for dinner.

Did I tell you guys that when I changed the flights, I accidentally canceled them and nothing else was available?? :headache: I was beyond upset.
Thankfully, a nice guy at Southwest was able to reissue them for me.

Are there any dinner restaurants near the Hampton Inn?
