;)[SIZE="3"]Hi, I will be going on the Wonder this Sunday, too. I am a traveling with two boys ages 6 and 16. I know it is a little late but I just found out recently about this. I have read some threads and learned a lot (especially about packing) I just wanted to say hello to everyone. I am super excited about our first Disney cruise.:dance3: (and overwhelmed, too, so many things  Well, I hope someone gets to read this message. :grouphug:
WELCOME!!! Please take a look at the first page of this thread, and come and say hi at our DIS Meet!!! The more, the merrier!! And of course, the kids are welcome for that and the picture, too.

I decided to fork out the $60 for the Early Bird check in with Southwest. I love the idea that they check us in automatically, and 12 hours earlier than the regular check in time to boot. Especially handy for the return trip... now I won't have to track down a 'puter.

What is the earliest you can arrive at the terminal? :confused3 I'm a platinum member so I know there's some special line or something...but I just really love getting the most out of the boarding day and try to squeeze in any extra minutes I can. Thanks in advance for the reply. Can't wait for the double dip! :cloud9:

I've done that a few times, and it really worked out well. I was always at least #A25 or higher. Which is great, because the first 10 or 15 numbers are held for some kind of premium members, and very few of them ever show.
Remember to take your receipt with you, just in case there's any doubt that you paid for that service. :thumbsup2

The port opens at 10, but lately I have heard that the line forms before then and most of them are folks wanting upgrades. Someone posted a few weeks ago that by 10:15, there were none left. Something like that. But you can get in starting at 10. The lines will be big then. Better at 10:30/11:00. Of course, no boarding until 12 Noon (officially).

I thought you needed to wait until you boarded to confirm an upgrade?????
Last summer, when we did the Tortola cruise, we were in line (in the rain) outside the terminal by...well, what time did we leave you all at breakfast?...9:00 or 9:30. Everyone who was there that early wanted an upgrade.
As soon as they let us inside the terminal to check in, we then asked for upgrades and if one was available, we were sent (with our paperwork) to a lady at the far right hand side of the check-in windows.
So anyway...upgrades are done at check in, before you board the ship.
chip&dale&fun
07-07-2010, 07:49 PM
Thanks - guess that is why I never got an upgrade when I asked when I boarded :rotfl2: Nevermind.
OK, we are packed - translation, stuff is tossed into cases. I think we had less cases when we did the 15 day and we had a tux and a gown and diver gear:lmao: This is not possible.
But we are driving, I am tired and do not wish to wrestle the packing into the normal efficient jigsaw puzzle shape.
It's quiet tonight, I guess everyone is on the road or otherwise occupied.
Have a fun night.
PS - Happy Birthday Ringo.

I have things literally STUFFED into two bags. I have more now than I did for Alaska, and that was cold weather, heavy clothes!
But in my own defense, I AM heading up to San Fran, too. No way am I washing clothes on the ship! Maybe if we had more sea days, but not this time.
Going to try to go to bed early. I have to leave the house at 7am for my flight. I hope I can sleep on the plane, so Vicki isn't picking up a cranky nag.
I just know I won't sleep tonight....."I'm too excited to sleep".....LOVED that commercial!

Thanks for thinking of me. I looked at this race when it was first announced and made the tough decision to pass.
Disney races have gotten so expensive. If I remember it is $120 which includes 1 taste and 1 wine sample. For family and friends to be at the finish line, they have to buy a $35 ticket, each.
Disney does have the best medals and this one being a first, it was really tempting but I'm starting to really like small races with no Hassle Factor.....like the CC 5K. I think I'll do that one twice. :cool1:

Jim, do you think they will let me walk the 5K - although the gym routine we had on the PC was perfect so I may stick to that.

Yes, you can walk the 5K. It is a very informal run. They meet at the gangway. Walk to the map. Explain the route and then everyone goes.
There is no pacing, no timing, no finish line, you don't even need to return.
Walking would be fine.

Going to bed early to leave the house at 7:00 am???
:rotfl: I'm with you, leaving the house at 7 is late for me on a normal day. But I understand that everyone has a different clock.
Our flight is at 7:30 on Saturday, so we are leaving the house at 5:00 a.m. That means I need to be up no later than 4:00 a.m., but I am certain that I will neither go to bed early (too much to do!) nor sleep a wink (scared of oversleeping!). I am always a mess on travel day because I get no sleep and leave to early and it is always so busy.
Does anyone know if the Radisson will let you use their pool on check in day, even before you can officially check-in? I think by the time the kids and I get to MCO, pick up the car, head to port, eat lunch, run to Walmart, etc. we will still have time before check-in. It would be nice to relax by the pool.

It is intense for me because there is something about being on the ship that translates in my mind as "no Walmart." I usually don't panic on vacations because if I forget something, I can go buy it. The ship has some sundries and clothes, but it ain't cheap. I dunno... :confused3: goofy thing to be worried about I guess.

Got home from work. Got my Cimzia shots that help my Crohns's so I can eat on this cruise. Hubby got everything finished up at his work so he could have next week off, but he still doesn't know what we are doing. I am not telling him.
Got to get packed. I always pack too much. Always! Trying to get rid of him so I can pack. If be sees me running between rooms with flip flops and shorts and swim suits, it might give it away. I actually have been stashing stuff in the back room, but I still have to grab some things out of my closet.
Oh, one good thing that happened today - the lay-off that was supposed to happen was postponed. Some contractor people around my cube at work were very worried, so at least the mood was a little better when they found they weren't going to have to clean out their desks today.
Well. I better get packing. Not taking formal wear this time: just don't want to deal with it. We are backwards as a couple, Steve likes dressing up and I hate it. We won't look tacky, just not dressy.
Looking forward to meeting you all.

WE ARE BACK!!!!
Had a WONDERful cruise - a beautiful fairy tale wedding, a great reunion and lots and lots of fun and relaxation. More posts and pics to come I am sure.
Most folks are still traveling or enjoying a few days at WDW.
Some of us are diving, others of us had morning dive called due to high seas despite the forecast. So, it is time to join the group that is doing laundry.
Have a good weekend all....

Realize I never really checked in that we were home. We are! :rotfl: No time for a real trip report but here are some of my favorite moments from the cruise:
Seeing the Main Street Electrical Parade again (ok not really cruise related but it was great to see).
Breakfast at Grills Sunday morning...what a great way to start the cruise.
The wedding...just beautiful.
The reception at Outlook Cafe - what a beautiful room.
The couples spa villa and our hot stone massage. Bliss!
Adding on 100 points at Aulani...can't wait to stay there.
Winning a $300 OBC at the DVC presentation on Nassau day.
Palo dinner with our awesome server Julia!
Palo brunch with the gang...thanks Virgil!
The group picture in the atrium...always a favorite DIS activity.
The wine/cheese party in the Walt Suite. Nice!
Being the first ones in the water at Serenity Bay and snorkeling with Mark and Frances.
Of course we had a great time doing many other things like our nightly dinners, my morning tea time with Jim and Garry, and getting to see both Toy Story 3 and The Sorcerer's Apprentice. All in all a really great cruise!

I didn't have time to pick up a copy of the group photo from Shutters so if anyone would be willing to email me a copy I would greatly appreciate it. I had NO IDEA how hectic the last 12 hours on the ship are! So little time! We manage to fit 10 pounds of s#!t in a 5 pound bag in record time so that we could catch the Dreams show. I had a hard time taking that last step off the ship on Friday. Not ready to give it up but so incredibly exhausted. I guess I got out in the nick of time. My only flight delay was one hour in Dallas because they switched us from a larger plane to a smaller one, and had to ask for volunteers to be bumped.
What happened with your flights?
Yea - we got home at 130am.... Since we both worked in the morning... it wasn't a pretty sight. Our flight was actually delayed because a plane had a maintenance issue early in the day and it moved everything else around,.... Oh well....

You should probably be glad they canceled it. One year, the kids and I went out with Virgil's family. There was almost no wind, so the boat just kept going further and further away from Castaway Cay. We were darn near all the way to Abaco. And the ride back took forever. I think they idled the whole way. I thought we were going to miss the ship! We all said we could have swum back faster than the boat. :sad2:

Yep - he was standing next to Sam I think and the photographer moved him over to the other side. At least since we are wearing matching outfits we're easy to point out. :)
Alexa got moved over to the other side as well. I think that is when Susanne joked that she now knew why we get spread out in these photos.

Maybe ours was having engine trouble and they didn't want to tell us. I wonder if they would have sent a lifeboat out after us, if we didn't get back on the ship on time?
Which reminds me....on our last CC day, I was back onboard by noon. Just before we were ready to pull out, I got a phone call in the room, asking me if I was onboard. (Well, yes...I answered!) and then they asked me if I knew if Nicholas Blackman were onboard. :confused3 I told them I had no idea and that they'd need to call his room. How many did they think I was sharing with, anyway???:lmao::lmao:

That second morning on Castaway Cay, the card scanners weren't working. When I got off, they just waved me on....Vicki said when they got off, they were writing down names and room numbers. I thought they had it fixed by noon when I got back on, because they scanned my card.
:confused3:confused3
It's probably not as big a worry as far as having unwanted people get on the ship in Castaway Cay, but it certainly would be easy enough for a passenger to get left behind there. (I've thought about trying it on purpose once or twice:cutie:)
Someone did leave an awfully nice stroller by the tram stop. Garry, Vicki and I could not believe all the people who walked past it, and yet, not one person took the initiative to deliver it to the ship. :sad2:

I always imagined that the CMs do a sweep of CC looking for stray people. I know we stayed on day 2 until about 4:15 and they were definitely out in force cleaning up. As for the stroller, I lost my DD's glasses at CC and Guest Services said they sweep CC and the dock for lost articles. Whatever gets swept up before departure gets sent to GS. The rest is held until the ship returns (apparently they hold items by date and ship).

Did they find the glasses? Do they have a phone number to call to see if they found them after we left, or are you just out of luck? I know you said you had to get new ones.
The stroller was still there as we pulled out. What a shame, it looked like a nice one. I can't imagine forgetting it. But I'm of the opinion that if your youngest needs a stroller, then they're too young. We didn't take ours to Disneyland or any place like that, until they were old enough to handle the walking by themselves. I'm always stunned by the brand new babies I see in the parks.:sad2: And the strollers on a cruise ship are a nuisance.

No. They had me fill out a form at GS describing the item, and giving them my contact info. She said they spend quite a bit of time rummaging through Lost and Found trying to match articles with forms folks fill out, but they already had a whole bunch of glasses and sunglasses, so I imagine that they are a little more difficult to match up with owners.
What's funny is that my DD absolutely loved her old glasses and was so sad when she found out I lost them. She cried and was convinced she would never find another pair she liked as much as those, but she is very happy with her new pair and has received so many compliments that I think she likes them better.
Kudos to Eyeglass World on Merritt Island!

I've been to the Lost and Found warehouse behind WDW and the largest amount of anything "lost" they had there were glasses and sunglasses. It's an interesting place, funny the things people manage to lose.
Congrats on finding a place to get new ones, and finding ones she liked. I know first hand how hard it is to find glasses I like!:cool2:

I bet that was interesting! When I worked in retail and food, people did leave behind really odd things.
I can't say enough good things about the folks at Eyeglass World. They were so accomodating and helpful. I couldn't get in touch with my DD's optometrist so I could get a copy of her prescription, but EW did exams for $39 and got her right in and the exam was super quick. We rolled up at 9:15 and at 11:45 we drove away with new glasses.

IT was great to cruise with everyone OLDER and newbies. The friendship and love was great, I know I was not around much but it is a health issue. SO I do hope to be around to do it AGAIN !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
this year has been hard on me and I know I have to down size alot, the farm the horses, work and start out alot slower. It will be hard to give up some of my babies, They have help in many ways but then life does have its ups and downs. I do hope to find great caring homes for them. So this time next year I should not have as much or even any.
I went back on antibiotics again, so far taking it slower so I can do more. Lost of 1000 bales of hay from rain.
okay back to work
THANK YOU to all my cruise was great I wish the garry banner could have been put up at grills as the ship went by but they would not do it.
have a good day all

You got a raw deal, my friend.
At least you had some (probably unwanted) company in the room while you were (trying to) rest. :cutie:

I'd like to finish healing and be pain free before we do it again, but I definitely feel the need for a Do-Over!
One day for sure, we will be doing a Celebration Cruise, in honor of a new liver.

That sounds like the PERFECT reason to celebrate!!:thumbsup2. Wish I would have run into more of my DIS friends on the boat. It's funny, I seemed to run into the same people (that I didn't know) over and over at the most random places and others I never seemed to see. Guess I wasn't at the right place at the right time!

Isn't it strange how that happens. It happens every cruise. You can talk to some online and really get to know them but unless you are linked for dinner or show up at a pre-arranged event you never see them. One of the reasons we switched to late seating for this cruise. I was afraid I'd never see my Blabbermouth friends if I didn't.

I told Jared he should step up to the plate and get tested. Jay and I are both O+, so that means Jared should be, too, right??
It's raining here too. Not too much so far.
I might have to go to Omaha a week early. Megan's blood pressure isn't good and she may have to deliver earlier than they'd thought before. I should know by tomorrow or Monday morning at the latest.

I can see some benefits of late seating but I can't imagine being full so late in the night! Plus, I think it was better for us given Alexa is still young. Either way, I enjoyed the dinner very much! Now I have to work at losing the weight I gained!! LOL! Maybe in time for the next cruise......

We eat late at home, too, so it's never been an issue for us. I think when we first cruised, we decided to go with late so we had more time to get ready after we'd been in port all day.
On the Alaska cruise, we chose our dinner time, which was 7:15/7:30-ish. That worked out a lot better. Six seems too early, and yes, 8:00 is a touch late.
But it's fun to be able to stay at the table and lounge over dessert and a cup of coffee without feeling we're being chased out, too.
Both have their plusses and minuses.

This was our first late dining and I loved it. The kids and I had time to relax, walk around, and not rush when we got back on the ship or done with our afternoon activities. Alanna usually ate fast and ran to the clubs, and if either one of them got tired after they ate, they just went off to the room. We loved our table mates though, so that helped make for pleasant dining. I never felt terribly full after dinner, but I learned my lesson on past cruises though. I try things, but I don't finish them unless they WOW me. Speaking of... not a big fan of the lobster ravioli that everyone raves about. :confused3
**Please note that the above statement regarding not eating too much DID NOT apply for my Palo brunch. That was spectacular, and I ate everything in sight! :rotfl2:

Oh my - does this bring back memories - True confession - Our first cruise was 4 nights - and it was right after New Years (Jan 2 I think) so we took our "Christmas outfits", to dress for dinner. Our last night was Palo. We also had the Romance at Sea package and not knowing anything (or this board), we had Breakfast in bed, followed by Palo's brunch, followed by Palo's dinner.
Of course, before then we had to sample every drink of the day and eat everything and every where. I remember having to put on my velvet pants with the elastic waist for the Palo's dinner because Nothing Fit. Same with Sam. Debarcation day was worse. :rotfl:
Then I came home and looked up the definition of "moderation". I already knew the definitionof "over-indulgence".:lmao::lmao:

Hope I get another chance to try this moderation thing on a cruise! I promise to try to be good:worship:

Did anyone else book another cruise on board? I book for a 4 day in December 2011 on the Dream, but I'm not sure if it will stick. I am not sure about cruising in December (any thoughts BTW?) because of the weather, but my schedule is too tight to go in summer 2011. I might push it to summer 2012 when the schedules come out this fall, but I did get a pretty good deal on the 4 day.

We didn't book onboard this time as we have our Alaska cruise booked for next year already. Not sure when we'll cruise after that because our plan for 2012 is Hawaii.
Well I have a lot less stress than I've had the past couple of months. Layoffs are looming at my company and I was pretty sure I was going to be one of the ones cut (we're heavy in middle management where I am). Yesterday I was offered a different job in a different department. I'm now going to be the cost analyst in the Accounting Department. I'm very happy especially when you consider what the alternative could have been. Plus it is a great department with great people and I get to learn some new software and some new skill sets. So no longer in management but it is a secure position and I don't have to look for a new company and start all over. All in all a very good thing and I'm happy.
