:cheer2::cheer2: Congratulation Brooklyn!!! VERY COOL!! :cheer2::cheer2:
Am I the only one who is going to be Hiking Rabacal in Madeira? I have an urge to change that to the Unforgettable West Madeira just for the social aspect!
It looks like all the excursions I booked are in question now because there is do much other fun stuff to do! I have Barcelona and Gaudi booked, but would really love to go to Montserrat as well, and the train info makes it sound really easy...choices...choices...I do want to be back for the Magic Fountain group outing...
Any input from yarn people on how we want to set up yarnning (Ha! New Word!)? Should we just decide on a time and place? No obligation, of course...

That'll teach me to cruise when we're 90 days out for the next one!
The Wonder was fabulous, although Castaway Cay was a wash-out (literally) yesterday. Waves, wind, and a deluge of rain! It was COLD coming back, and Port Canaveral was a nice brisk 30-something this morning! :scared1:
We're booked for Brunch on the 17th, and dinner the following night while at Madeira. I'm pleased as punch, I wanted a Saturday Brunch and Sunday Dinner. It'll give us a break mid-cruise from the rotational dining...

Let's hope you got that bad weather out of your system.

We did the full day Montserrat with Disney last trip and it was great, but if you haven't seen Gaudi in Barcelona, there is so much more to see. We just rode around on the bus last time and never had time to get off & see Park Guell, Casa Batllo, Sagrada Familla, also Picasso's museum is probably a must. We would really like to join the group going to see the Magic fountain.

Hmmmm - 43 years? I'm thinking you will be nominated for COUPLE #3, DCL's MATCH YOU MATE, Rockin' Bar D! Will you be a willing participant? If we "stach the deck", we can have an all DISers show!?
So that would be:
COUPLE #1: Princess Monkey - to be married in WDW, just prior to the cruise
COUPLE #2: SDLong329 - 24 years and counting!
COUPLE #3: Happy Goofy - 43 years and counting!
:dance3:

My parents would also be good candidates for couple #3... they have been married 57 years!

OK, all of your back-to-back talk has gotten me thinking... No, I can't do it on the TA/Med as DS's school would so NOT approve... but I am booked on the Dream in April 2011... How could I possibly go from a 14 night cruise to a 4 night cruise? So, I just got off the phone with DCL & added an additional 3 night cruise in April 2011 to make it a back-to-back on the Dream! I think I will wait about a year to tell DH this... :rotfl2:

COMPETITION! :cheer2:
How many DISers have been married more than 40 years, plan to be at (and perhaps PARTICIPATE in) MATCH YOUR MATE? If you've never seen MATCH YOU MATE, you MUST attend ... you'll have a grrrreat time learning LOTS of interesting tid-bits about your fellow DISers! For the rest of the cruise, you will think of them as "COUPLE #x" when you see them walking down the hallways during the rest of the cruise!

We won on the "Match Your Mate" on a Hawiian cruise, and the cruise line replayed the game on the tvs the rest of the cruise. At first it was imbarassing, but it became fun to be popular as fellow cruisers made some references to the game the rest of the week.

On the EB TA in 2007 they did match your mate twice. So let's look for 6 couples!!! We will not be one of them. I could never get up there. I am so not like dd Brooklyn. She volunteers for EVERYTHING. I volunteer for nothing!

Yes, I've seen that on a few cruise lines. DCL does not re-broadcast live performances into staterooms, or any other public areas.

Madeira Excursion
Unforgettable W. Madeira
pros - Cabo Girao, Encumeada and chance to swim at Porto Moniz
cons - all days trip with NO time otherwise (barely get back to ship before sailing off), would like to stop at Camera de Lobos
Views and Parks
pros - Cabo Girao, Camera de Lobos (with free time), might see parade
cons - no Encumeada, Funchal Park doesn't seem all that interesting
4x4
pros - Camara de Lobos, Encumeada and tasting of Poncha
cons - no Cabo Girao
Help me!!!! I'm so lost. :confused3

A question for those of you who booked the "Unforgettable West Madeira" excursion. The only time that is available for me to book has a departure time of 10:30 a.m.
Were there earlier departure times? I don't see how a 10:30 departure time would work with main dining as it is an 8-8.5 hour tour. Not only that but isn't it Pirate night, that seems to be cutting it really close. Can this port be done on your own?
Any thoughts???
Thanks,
Gina

We can't get off the ship until 10:30 in Madeira so this is the only time offered I believe. I've read that if you let your servers(or the head server) know ahead of time that they might be able to fit you in at the later dining time for one night. Hope this helps.

I had actually though about doing it right after the book swap. I thought someone a zillion pages ago mentioned their daughter likes to crochet, but I don't remember how old the daughter is.
How about this: We'll meet at the Promenade lounge after the book swap (say 10AM?), and if we're all over 18 that day we have the option of going up to the Cove Cafe ~ 10:10 or 10:15 (allowing latecomers time to show up...).
Does that make sense? Anyone else wants to chime in? Otherwise Mrs. Gumdrop and I will make an executive decision in a few days :lmao::lmao:

it puts us back at 6:30 - 7:00 - it is also Pirate Night according to what info we have - that is my favorite appitizer night - so I will talk to our servers and see what our options are (can we come late? just have dessert? ) and then figure it out from there. We have never not eaten in the dining room during cruises for dinner so have never been to topsiders - but it is my understanding they have the same food there as in the dining rooms? That may be our option - and I have gone and book Palo for a 9 pm dinner that night - but may cancel it later. Does anyone know if you can see the fireworks from inside Palo? I know they shoot them off over there but can you see them?

If so, please have the person who is taking responsibility for updates to make a first post and then email me a link to the new post. I can then post the link and close this thread.

Does it not seem odd that DCL would schedule the one pirate night on a night where you could miss the one pirate themed dinner/menu by going on an excursion, when there are 7 nights at sea previous??
What about getting dressed up in pirate garb and getting pics taken before dinner? Thats out too with an excursion such as the "Unforgettable West Madeira" since its an 8-8.5 hour tour.
Obviously not everyone thinks pirate night is a must do, but for our family it is. I guess we'll just have to find another excursion

Hi all was wondering if anyone could help with a question i have about our arrival in Barcalona. Months ago when we first booked this cruise we looked on youtube and saw the 2007 Disney Magic arriving at night and there was an amazing firework display but when we looked at the 2010 arrival time we noticed it was on friday morning and thought oh well to bad. I was reading some trip reports about the 2007 cruise today and someone asked a question that was never answered before the thread ended. they asked if it was true that in Barcalona they have 2 seperate ports one for trans-atlantic and one for the med cruises and if this was the so does the ship change port when everyone boards again on the friday night. If this was the case do you think we will be treated to the same display or am i just clutching at straws.

--The only thing I can think of, is that DCL has to work around issues with fireworks. It might be easy to set off fireworks in the Caribbean, but may run into other issues (separate notifications, etc) in the Mediterranean. Not sure if that's correct or not - but sounds logical.
great - my whole packing plan just got thrown out the window - on the main board they are talking about how disney is now requesting no jeans at dinner now.
--This is nothing new. The ship is more lax on embarkation day, and casual (not cruise casual) day. Instead of jeans, consider a pair of dockers. I have noticed a more casual attitude towards dining recently. However, on my 12/09 cruise, I was pleased to receive a reminder phone call from Palo's, of my upcoming reservation. They were polite enough to remind the gentlemen to wear a shirt & tie, or jacket. On my 4/09 cruise, I was disappointed to see jeans and t-shirts in Palo's. I just wasn't proper for that atmosphere.

The fireworks happened on THursday night before actually docking in BCN...then Friday morning we docked and people got off for hte day.
I have no idea if DCL will do it again. It was a huge display. It had to have cost a fortune. It will be interesting to see if they do it again. I have to say it was amazing and my eyes still tear up when watching the video of it all.

I wish Disney would reconsider and do Pirate Night when we have a sea day. A lot of us are doing the West Madeira tour which will get us back to the ship late and then to try and get dinner and dress for the pirate night is going to be a hassle.

I believe Aunt Lynne was trying to set up things in advance, and was going to post the link when it was ready. At this time, I do not believe messages are to be posted on the new thread. Granted, I am not in charge of the current, or new thread - but that was my understanding. Lynne is taking a lot of time to set up the new page properly.
yes for awhile now. Here is what is listed on DIS for info on dress code:
"As part of the "Cruise Casual" policy, it is asked that you do not wear tank tops, swim wear or shorts to the dining rooms. Jeans are allowed"
... and yet, people continue to wear shorts and a t-shirt to Lumiere's ... or shorts and a polo shirt to Palo's. I think the dress code on the Magic started to deteriorate when cruisers from other cruise lines did not adhere to DCL's dress code. When we sailed on the Wonder (4/08), we saw virtually no distinction between dress code in Topsiders vs Animator's Palette vs. Palo's. Then again, when on a 3 or 4 day cruise, you aren't really exposed to Formal Night, Semi-Formal dress, Captain's Gala, etc.
To me, CASUAL equates to a nice pair of jeans, and collar-less shirt. Cruise Casual equates to dockers or khaki's and a collared shirt (no sneakers or sandals). Formal night does NOT mean to button-up a polo shirt, but you'd be surprised at what is worn or allowed to be worn. During the last Eastern cruise to Tortola, I noticed the Maitre 'd at Palo's was issuing jackets to men who showed up without a tie, even though courtesy messages were left on their stateroom voice mail, reminding guests of the dress code.
Shorts, sneakers, and sandals may be okay at Topsiders ... but not elsewhere. DCL isn't Freestyle cruising. I do not mean to offend anyone, or come across with the wrong attitude ... but most everyone on DCL is paying at least twice the normal fare to cruise on DCL, as compared to most other cruise lines (let alone Carnival). I choose not to sail Carnival for a reason.

Have a great vacation Lynne.
Where are you headed for 3 1/2 weeks? I hope it's somewhere warm
Wed-Sat: joining up with my SIL in LA (she'll be in Vancouver on a business trip before that and didn't want to fly home to Boston and then back again on Sat). Pick up my DB at LAX on Sat. Got a 1/2 price rate at the Marriott Vacation Club in Newport Beach (2 bed/bath condo) since I own at other properties (like the Maui one I'll be visiting).
Sunday 1/17 - 2/6 : Hawaii, all four major islands, staring and ending on Oahu. Packed with activities, since DB and SIL said this would be their only trip to Hawaii. We'll just see about that, I say. They are darn excited about this trip (and they are seasoned travelers).
Don't cry for me,
Lynne

I believe Aunt Lynne was trying to set up things in advance, and was going to post the link when it was ready. At this time, I do not believe messages are to be posted on the new thread. Granted, I am not in charge of the current, or new thread - but that was my understanding. Lynne is taking a lot of time to set up the new page properly.
... and yet, people continue to wear shorts and a t-shirt to Lumiere's ... or shorts and a polo shirt to Palo's.

I can't believe it... everything is DONE!!!
I booked our pre-cruise hotel (Country Inn and Suites in Cape Canaveral) through Priceline. Got it for $63 ($49 + tx)!
I have been looking for flights from Atlanta to Orlando and the cheapest I have seen so far was $125 pp. Plus we would have to get to Cape Canaveral by shuttle/rental car/etc. So on a whim, I checked on a one-way car rental through Hertz (since the Hertz location is close to the Country Inn & Suites and there is a Hertz location just a few minutes away from our house). With AAA, a one-way rental was only $105!!! We always drive down anyway so the idea of driving was no big deal. Therefore, I booked the rental car... that means more money for the cruise!!!!:cool1:
So now, ALL of our transportation, shore excursions, and dining stuff is taken care of. Now to sit back and relax for the next 90 days!!!:woohoo:

Works for me and it looks awesome already, you are all amazing thank you for all your hard work!!!! This is why I love the DIS!!!
I wish Disney would reconsider and do Pirate Night when we have a sea day. A lot of us are doing the West Madeira tour which will get us back to the ship late and then to try and get dinner and dress for the pirate night is going to be a hassle.[QUOTE]
I second that.

I agree ....liking the classic colors and fonts (red gold blue and deco)..but truth be told I will bow to whatever majority says...I carry the lanyrd in my fanny pack all cruise - don't like neckwear ....never did.... LOL...but I do save them and scrapbook them... hang in room ....admire them ....etc....
I am considering paying a friends mom to do my FE pockets :thumbsup2

Man, I have been busy all weekend and I had to catch up on about 15 pages! Anyway, I like Lynne's suggestion. :goodvibes
Lynne/Stephanie, will you make name tags for everyone or just if we request one? Whenever you get back, I'd like one to match the logo, please. (Linda-stlkeeler) I'll remind you again...
Lynne, maybe while you're gone you could ask someone to volunteer to help keep track of everyone's requests to the thread and forward them to you when you get back. You know, like, "Lynne, could you add me to the blank list." Or, "Please put this on the website." I would feel so overwhelmed if that was my responsibility-knowing I was going to be gone so long. Just a thought... :goodvibes

We are all supposed to take a break during this time and prepare for the cruise - making FEs and FE gifts, exercising to get in shape for all our activities (don't forget your wrist exercises to keep toned for BUNCO!)

I agree to the no shorts/tanks, etc. in the restaurants but disney has said that jeans were ok so on casual nights I allow my son to wear jeans with a button up shirt or polo shirt. Hubby always dresses in dress slacks, shirt and tie, jacket for Palo.
Since until December apparently Disney did say jeans were ok for casual dining nights I was going to alternate jeans and dockers /polo/button up casual shirts for my hubby so he was not in the same 2 pair of pants every casual night. On a 7 night it is not as big of deal but we are just trying to cut down on clothes. Hubby is one who wears jeans, shirt (polo or button up) tucked in with a belt and topsider (boat) shoes. It is not a major deal just frustrated because I had everything planned out and packed for hubby and now I need to redo it. We follow disney guidelines.

I figured I and a legion of well-intended gypsies would make name tags for everyone (with some useful information on the back - per the historical tags Woody and Stephanie sent in).
How are we going to pay for them? I volunteer to be part of a Name Tag Team that gives them as a FE gift to the rest of the cruisers. This team would work best with about 10 of us at $30 each. Much easier than collecting $1-2 per person.
So far, about 184 of us in our Disboard group.

We don't do dress clothes and normally avoid eating in the dining room on formal night. I like to be comfortable and myself on vacation I guess I never thought that my clothing choices could offend others. Do people really think about what others wear that much? I am very much "to each its" own type of person.

Well I for one have been working on FE gifts :) I have 15 girls bags started and ready to start on the boys bags. I also have started working on my Secret Mickey things - the generic items I have purchased so far.
Before I have put things together on the ship to save space in the suitcase but this time I want the time more than space in the suitcase so everything will be ready before we leave so all I have to do on the cruise is sent the children out to deliver the items.
Now to work on breaking down the FE list even more by age brackets :)

Ooooo complicated! I love it! It is people like you who make the cruise so enjoyable for my son. He loves the special gifts and thoughtful gifts that people leave almost every day. He LOVES it! So thanks so much in advance for the time and preparation that you are doing to help brighten others days.

Stephanie - I thought you'd have a good eye for color. It's harder to get a good dark red match, too. It's either bright red or maroon.
I nixed white for the dirt & "ring around the collar" issue, too.
I like black. Wording color?

Gold lettering may work and I think look classy with the logo. White however would show up the best. I think those are our only two color options with either black or navy I do not think red lettering would be large enough to be seen well on the dark background.
The lighter blue color may work?!?!?

Lynne, have fun in Hawaii! I'd love to be on the lanyard Name Tag Team --one less thing to pack. Also, please only plan for 1 lanyard for my family -- for me. Dh will wear the one DCL gives him and my dd's don't wear them.
Brooklyn, Congrats to Brooklyn!!! That's so cool!:cool1:
Madeira: I just booked the West Madeira excursion. It sounds fabulous but 8.5 hours could be painful...
I tried to look for a reputable tour agency but couldn't find one and I am not sure I trust anyone but DCL to take me outside of Funchal. Darn!!!!

Are you talking about name tags or lanyards (as long as it's not white, I'm good with any other color)? I thought I would have to print out my own. I'm not part of the FE group but I would be happy to contribute $$ towards this. Or help in any other way if you need me to.

I NEVER look at what enyone else is wearing. I'm too busy worrying about my own self to worry about anybody else. I have never seen jeans or shorts on anyone. I read about people "complaining" about someone they saw wearing whatever and I always mean to look around, but I never remember to. So, don't change what you're wearing on my account...

These are the best/most logical color combos. I included the red and yellow just for demonstration. Wish the bottom red/gold ship & scroll didn't get cut off; I think we can visualize.
