I'm just now getting around to writing a quick review of our time a the Fort. We've been suffering from some sort of post-Disney depression and haven't been motivated to do anything.
We got back Saturday 1/17 from our first trip to Fort Wilderness and Disney World. We were lucky enough to stay for 9 nights from January 8th - 17th. We had such a great time. Fort Wilderness is the best campground I have ever stayed in. The staff was so kind, the grounds were kept perfectly clean and we loved being a short boat ride away from MK.
My husband and I are 30 years old and my DD is 4. Oops, I mean 4 and a half. She would correct me for sure. My daughter is a girly-girl and loves anything to do with the princesses. My husband went to Disneyland when he was a kid but the only thing he remembers are the words to It's a Small World. I have wanted to go to Disney World since the day my daughter was born.
Here's a summary of our first day at the Fort and other comments about our trip:
We live west of Atlanta and left when by husband got off work early Thursday morning. Actually, it was really, really early…2:00 AM to be exact. My husband drove till 4:00 and then went to sleep leaving me behind the wheel. I should mention that I am a very nervous RV driver. I can't parallel park my Corolla so driving a 31ft vehicle is pretty scary to me. Of course, to top it off there was tons of road work on I-75 so the lanes seemed tiny and the big trucks were everywhere.
I survived though and about 7:00AM my husband and daughter woke up just as we passed the Florida state line. I was exhausted from my death grip on the steering wheel and not blinking for several hours but I drove till 8:00 while my husband and daughter ate breakfast.
We made great time and arrived at Fort Wilderness about 10:15. We pulled up to the empty gate and met John who I'm sure is the happiest person to ever live. He seemed more excited about our trip than we were. :) It was a great way to start the trip. He gave us all of our paperwork, answered all our silly questions and informed us that our site was not ready but directed us to the overflow parking lot.

My husband really wanted a nap so my daughter and I decided to explore. We made it about 10 steps out of the RV before we turned around to change into t-shirts and shorts. Man, it was hot for January. It had to be close to 80 degrees.
We walked to the building next to the gate only to learn that it was a front desk/check-in area and a bus stop to go to the airport. Not very interesting.
We turned around walked to the other side of the parking lot and found the kennel. Would be more interesting if we had a dog.
http://inlinethumb08.webshots.com/43783/2002875600102591727S425x425Q85.jpg
We walked along the path past the stable and found the bus stop.

Hmmm..where should we go? Downtown Disney came to mind but we didn't want to venture to far. Then a bus pulls up that says "yellow". I ask the driver, "Is this the bus that goes to the other side of the campground?". He responds, "That's what it says on the front of the bus" Well, I guess all Disney employees can't be as happy as John at the gate.
So we hop on the bus. We check out the Settlement trading post (bought an autograph book), the marina, and the playground. My DD rode a pony ($5). The ponies were really sweet and all named after Disney characters. :thumbsup2

We avoided the yellow bus and the grumpy driver going back. We ate lunch at the RV, and woke up my husband and because our site was finally ready. :thumbsup2 We had site 352. It thought it was in a great location. Not a bad walk to the marina. You could see the road from our "back yard" but it was still private.

We set up camp and rested. After dinner we went to the Chip and Dale campfire sing-a-long. The marshmallow roasting starts about 6:00 but the sing-a-long begins at 6:30. I think the host's name is Cowboy Alex but of course Chip and Dale are the stars of the show. The come around to all the kids and sign autographs/take photos. Then the kids do the hokey pokey and some other dances. The movie starts at 7:30 but we took off to see the fire works from the beach.

Wishes was nice because the music plays at the beach during the fireworks so you almost get the full Wishes experience. My daughter oohed and aahed the whole time. And then told us that this was the "best day of her life". She hadn't even been to a park yet! "You ain't seen nothing yet kid".
We all wanted to get to bed early and just as I was drifting off, I hear these loud trumpets announcing the beginning of something. Of course, I couldn't miss a thing. So I hopped on my bike and rode toward the beach (yes, I was in my pajamas). The electrical water pageant was just starting so I sat and enjoyed it. Even though we didn't get to see it again the whole week, we got to hear the music blaring every night as we tried to fall asleep. :upsidedow
Great start....My DS had a blast too before we even hit a park. That is the best part about FW. There is so much to do right there. Can't wait to read the rest.

A few random observations:
Half way into our trip we did some laundry. It cost $2 for the washer and $2 for the dryer. So $4 a load not counting detergent. The washer took about 35 minutes and the dryer took a little less than an hour.
http://inlinethumb62.webshots.com/29117/2057784810102591727S425x425Q85.jpg
A bag of ice costs $2 at the comfort station. You might want to bring a clean trash bag to put the ice in. The bags Disney provides are too small.
The first boat to the Magic Kingdom does not come until 8:30 but we made it to see the welcome show every time. Everyone waiting fit on the first boat but I might get there early during the busy season. If you are desperate to get to the MK as early as possible, you might want to take the earlier boat to the Contemporary and take the monorail from there.
http://inlinethumb03.webshots.com/12610/2751708450102591727S425x425Q85.jpg
We got trails end takeout one night after Wishes. We were starving and willing to eat anything we didn’t have to cook. :) We got a cheese pizza ($14) and honey barbeque wings($9). Both were OK but we didn’t have very high expectations. The cheese pizza was large enough to feed 4 people so $14 is reasonable.

Bikes are the way to go if you are like us and too cheap to rent a golf cart.:thumbsup2 We took the bikes to the marina most days. It was about 1/3 of a mile from the 300 loop. Too short to take a bus but a long way to walk at the end of a long day at MK. We also used them to go to the Meadows area which was about the same distance. We took the bus to the outpost.

I agree. We could have spent a week just at the Campground.

Thank you. I'm not sure what else to write since this is the camping board. I don't want to fill it up with a trip report about the parks. The first day was our only full day at the campground.
Don't get me wrong. I could talk/write all day about our trip. My co-workers are getting sick of it. :rotfl: They see me coming with my 10 photo albums and run.
Wow, great pics and a great report.:thumbsup2

We had planned to fish. Brought everything we needed. :rotfl: Time flew by though and we couldn't get enough of the parks.
Yes, it's addictive! We are ruined now. No other campground compares!

Forgot to add...
Our site was on the 300 loop. We wanted to be close to the Marina so originally I was going to request the 100 loop. But instead, I took the advise of a poster and simply asked for a loop near the Marina. Glad I did because the CM who assigned our site knew what we wanted, not just a loop number.
Also, at first I was concerned about being assigned a pet loop. I thought we would be surrounded in puppy poop and barking dogs. Not the case, the loop was clean and peaceful.

Excellent FW trip report and great job with the photos/info! So glad your family had such a great first FW trip, and thanks so much for sharing! :goodvibes
btw - 300 is our favorite loop too. :cool1:
I really enjoyed reading your trip report! Your daughter is beautiful... and those pics of her expressions are priceless! I had to chuckle when I read the "nervous driver" part. Then my chuckle became a gut-wrenching laugh when I discovered that your 31 ft. Minnie Winnie is IDENTICAL to ours. I can relate to the white knuckles when driving. :scared: Too funny!

We woke up early for our first full day. We didn’t know what to expect and we were sooooo excited. I loved having the RV because it was so easy to have breakfast and coffee at “home” before starting are day. We walked the short distance between the 300 loop and the marina. Today was our first Magic Kingdom day and we were on a mission to get to Fantasyland. We realized that we were a little early when we arrived at an empty dock at 8:00. We chatted with a nice family from Canada to pass the time. At 8:30 on the dot the first boat to MK came.
The boat ride to MK was about 10. The boats are great if you have a stroller because you don’t have to fold it up. Once at MK we went through security and the turnstiles with 5 minutes to spare before the welcome show started.
http://inlinethumb10.webshots.com/15113/2483961550102591727S425x425Q85.jpg
We were glad to see that it wasn’t crowded at all. We watched the show. I thought it was really cute. Of course, my DD was amazed. Especially when the characters rode in on the train. Mickey officially opened the park and the crowd started moving.
http://inlinethumb14.webshots.com/44173/2918546040102591727S425x425Q85.jpg
http://inlinethumb55.webshots.com/44918/2018497040102591727S425x425Q85.jpg
We walked down main street and through the castle straight to Dumbo. My husband and daughter rode while I took photos.
http://inlinethumb53.webshots.com/43124/2362406730102591727S425x425Q85.jpg
Next we headed to Winnie the Pooh, no wait of course. My DD LOVED it. We must have rode it another 10 times during the trip and every time she sat on the edge of her seat yelling, “there’s Pooh!” and “We’re bouncing with Tigger!”.
http://inlinethumb45.webshots.com/44716/2336884670102591727S425x425Q85.jpg
We didn’t know how crowded it would be later so we grabbed a fast pass for Winnie. Then we crossed Fantasyland to ride Peter Pan. I thought it was OK. Needless to say, my DD loved flying. The rest of the week Peter Pan was either broken down or had a ridiculous line. After Peter Pan we rode the Carousel twice. It was about 9:45 by then and we had to discuss what to do next. My DD desperately wanted to meet Ariel. Ariel’s Grotto opened at 10:00 and a line was already forming. We decided to wait. I was surprised that my DD chose meeting a character over rides but we found that all week meeting characters was her favorite Disney activity. So we waited in line and met the famous mermaid. Ariel asked my daughter if she ever went on adventures and DD responded “Oh yes! Yesterday my mom and I went to find the ice machine.”
http://inlinethumb61.webshots.com/43260/2835992660102591727S425x425Q85.jpg
http://inlinethumb29.webshots.com/27548/2210947500102591727S425x425Q85.jpg
We left Ariel’s Grotto about 10:15 and stopped at the tea cups before going to Toontown. The teacup ride seemed to load slowly but we didn’t wait more than 5 minutes all week.
http://inlinethumb53.webshots.com/43700/2599933020102591727S425x425Q85.jpg
Alice and the Mad Hatter were hanging out by the teacups. Of course, we had to stop and say hello.
http://inlinethumb17.webshots.com/42320/2321163140102591727S425x425Q85.jpg
Next my DD wanted to ride a big girl roller coaster so we waited in the 5 minute line at Goofy’s Barnstormer. Since the Barnstormer didn’t scare DD too much we decided to give BTMR a try. We took the train from Toontown to Frontierland. We got fast passes for BTMR since the line was 20 minutes. LOL. We were already getting spoiled by the slow season. We had about an hour to waste so we walked to Liberty Square to ride the Haunted Mansion. I was so worried about traumatizing my DD but I was more scared than her. I love the HM though especially the dancing ghosts and hitchhiking ghosts. It was a quick walk back to Fantasyland using the shortcut by It’s a Small World so we decided to use those Winnie the Pooh fast passes. We noticed Fantasyland was getting a little more crowed by then . Peter Pan was a 30 minute wait, Dumbo was 15, and Winnie the Pooh was 20. After our 2nd of many rides on Winnie the Pooh we decided to go back to Toontown and ride the train back to BTMR rather than walking. BTMR was broken down though so we walked to the Country Bear Jamboree. I realize it’s a classic but I had trouble staying awake. Sorry, die hard Country Bear fans.
http://inlinethumb11.webshots.com/41610/2252529000102591727S425x425Q85.jpg
Afterwards, we snacked on some popcorn and then rode Aladdin’s Magic Carpets. The wait was less than 5 minutes. Donald was in Frontierland dressed in his western gear. We couldn’t pass him by without stopping for an autograph.
http://inlinethumb07.webshots.com/33670/2004816240102591727S425x425Q85.jpg
We were getting tired but decided to check on BTMR one more time. Yeah, it was running again. One small problem. My daughter got a glimpse of the screaming riders going down a hill and said “No way!” So we gave our fast passes to a near by family of 3 and rode the train back to the front gate. It was about 1:00. I would have stayed all day but DD and my husband were tired. So we got a Mickey ice cream bar and went back to the dock.
http://inlinethumb45.webshots.com/5676/2004947460102591727S425x425Q85.jpg
We took the short boat ride back to the campground and ate lunch. We ended up taking an afternoon break most days. I strongly advise it. We didn’t feel tired all week and my DD didn’t have a single meltdown. My husband wanted a nap. My DD and I watched The Little Mermaid in honor of our meeting with Ariel. We went bike riding and played a board game. My husband was still asleep! Acting like he was on vacation or something.
About 5:00 we forced him out of bed by waving food in his face. We got cleaned up and we were back at the MK by 6:00.
http://inlinethumb30.webshots.com/35869/2491284820102591727S425x425Q85.jpg
Pluto was outside the park with no line!!! He was so funny, giving my DD bear hugs and trying to balance the autograph book on his nose. Even my husband was laughing.

http://inlinethumb51.webshots.com/28722/2922736510102591727S425x425Q85.jpg
We went back to Fantasyland to get fast passes for, you guessed it, Winnie the Pooh. The line was only 10 minutes so we waited instead. We walked toward Tommorowland. When we passed Tommorowland Speedway we were surprised to see that the line was only 15 minutes. DD said it was worth the wait so my husband got in line with her and I sought out the best photo spot.
http://inlinethumb26.webshots.com/42393/2985261370102591727S425x425Q85.jpg
Next we went got fast passes for Buzz Lightyear and rode TTA. TTA is one of my top ten rides. It’s relaxing. We checked out Astro Orbiter but the line was 45 minutes. So we rode TTA again. Buzz was next. I thought it was great (remember this was before I rode Toy Story Mania). We had more time to waste before Wishes so we rode TTA (it’s the adult Winnie the Pooh). Astro Orbiter’s line was only 15 minutes and it was only 7:15 so we decided to give it a try. The view was awesome, especially at night. It was 7:45 by then so we made our way back towards Main Street to watch Wishes. We settled on a spot behind the bridge to Tommorowland.
http://inlinethumb52.webshots.com/5747/2399608080102591727S425x425Q85.jpg
So that was our first day! LOL, it’s insane that I can remember all the details of our vacation and can’t remember what I ate for lunch today! Overall, we were amazed how much we were able to do in just one day. Maybe it’s because we went there first but MK was everyone’s favorite park by the end of the week.

Awesome TR, glad you had a good time and it sounds like a great time of year to go. We miss those days when our kids were younger and we could travel during the slow periods. Now, it gets old real fast waiting in line for 90 minutes because all the FP's are gone.
Your daughter is at that perfect age for MK and WDW in general. Looking forward to more, curious to see how she liked the other parks.

I would recommend Jan. to anyone. The combination of low crowds and great weather can't be beat.
Our days of traveling during the slow season might already be over. I spoke to her Kindergarten teacher (she starts next year) and she wasn't too supportive of taking my DD out of school to go on vacation. We wouldn't feel comfortable without her teacher's blessing so I'm not sure if we'll be back or not.
I think it depends on the 4 year old but this was the perfect time to go for my DD. I agree that going before the kid is too cool to get into the "magic" is the best plan.
She loved all the parks. She said her favorite was MK, followed by Hollywood Sudios, then Animal Kingdom and EPCOT.

On that note..God I feel old. Excuse me while I go smack my 21 year old daughter. How dare she grow up. :sad1: Damn kid.

Let me start by saying I just love your trip report so far.
As for this statement.
I could talk/write all day about our trip. My co-workers are getting sick of it. They see me coming with my 10 photo albums and run.
they just do not understand. LOL
I never realized the camp ground was as big as it is.I made the mistake of walking from the bus stop out front to the Marina in 95 degree weather. I should have realized when they had buses running to campground colors.OOps LOL

Hey, Was wondering if you pulled a fifth wheel, or was it a travel trailor ? We want to pull our 32' travel trailor to Disney, but hubby says i will have to learn to help do the driving before we ever do this. I am very nervous about this, even though it has all sway bars, etc. Was wondering if your route at the time you drove was straight hwy, or did you have lots of on and off exits. If i could do only straight w/ no exiting, i believe i can do it. Thanks

My 3 y/o nephew is turning 4 St. Patties Day and my brother and his family are coming to join us at the campground the end of March so they can take him on his 1st WDW trip. I can't wait to see the look in his eyes when he goes.
That sounds like fun! I'm sure your nephew is going to love it. Check out the pony rides at the Fort.

It's a motor home. Once we got out of Atl, we stayed on I-75 almost the whole way. When I had to stop, I waited for a rest stop. I've driven a truck pulling a boat before. As long as I don't have to back-up, it's not that bad.
You'll be fine. Changing lanes is a little more challenging than in a car but I've found that when I turn on my blinker, people get out of my way fast! :)

Saturday we decided to sleep in and have a late breakfast since our first day was so busy. Today was my DD’s appointment at BBB and our dinner with Cinderella at 1900 Park Faire. Otherwise, the day was open. :cool1:
We arrived at the MK about 11:00. We got fast passes for Winnie the Pooh, of course and rode Snow White since it only had a 5 minute wait. The tea cups had a short wait also so we took advantage. My DD’s appointment for BBB was at 12:00. We checked in about 11:45. The place was super busy but they were only running about 15 minutes late. My husband went to Space Mountain to get fast passes while we waited. DD had a great fairy god mother in training. She treated DD like a princess. DD being the girly girl that she is enjoyed every moment of the pampering. DD was able to pick which hairstyle, crown, nail polish and lipstick. The transformation took about 30 minutes. DD was not able to see herself till the big reveal at the end. We are so glad DD was able to do this. The package cost $55 and included hair, nails and make-up. I bought the dress for 75% off at the Disney Store after Halloween. The packages that include a dress are closer to $200. DD didn’t seem to notice or care that we brought the dress from home.

Afterwards we rode Winnie the Pooh with our fast passes and then rode the Carousel twice.
http://inlinethumb27.webshots.com/43034/2831601990102591727S425x425Q85.jpg
Next was Mickey’s Philharmagic. LOVED IT!!! We made our way towards Tomorrowland to use our Space Mountain fast passes but we stopped to meet the wicked step sisters and step mother. They were so funny. Completely in character the whole time. I wish MK had more villains to meet.
http://inlinethumb53.webshots.com/38132/2629793890102591727S425x425Q85.jpg
We all rode Buzz with a five minute wait. Then DH went to use his fast pass while DD and I met Stitch and Buzz Lightyear.

As soon as the parade was over we quickly left the MK so we wouldn’t be late for our 4:30 ADR at 1900 Park Faire. The monorail ride to The Grand Floridian. The hotel was beautiful. OK, I see why people pay a fortune to stay there. We took a few photos of our little princess and it was time for dinner.

Dinner starts at 4:30 so we were among the first guests seated but the dinning room filled up by the time we left. The food was decent. I remember prime rib, pasta dishes, a variety of sides, salad, really good soup, and yummy deserts all on a buffet. The kids had their own buffet with pizza, mac and cheese, corn, broccoli, and soft serve ice cream. All the characters came around to the table. Cinderella spent about 5 minutes at the table talking to DD. The wicked step mothers and sisters were mean and nasty as expected. When Prince Charming came to the table, my DD just froze. He kept asking her questions but she just stared at him blankly with her mouth open. I admit, he was hot. The kids were invited to dance with the characters. The step sister kept getting in cat fights. It was a great experience. With tip, I believe we spent about $100.

After our early dinner we discussed going back to the MK to see Spectromagic but decided to go back to the campground since we had an early morning at AK planned for Sunday. We took the monorail back to MK and then the boat to FW.
Some campsites still had their Christmas decorations up. This site was unbelieveable:

DD wanted to go swimming so we changed and headed to the pool. There was no one else there….probably because it was a little cool to swim. DH and DD played in the pool for about an hour while I talked to the lifeguard. We made a quick stop by the Meadow’s trading post but didn’t buy anything. Then we went back to the RV and turned in early.

Wishes was nice because the music plays at the beach during the fireworks so you almost get the full Wishes experience. My daughter oohed and aahed the whole time. And then told us that this was the "best day of her life". She hadn't even been to a park yet! "You ain't seen nothing yet kid".
[/QUOTE]
Ummm - I've been to the fort twice now and didn't know that you can see Wishes from the beach or that the music was piped in. I don't think that I'm totally stupid but really - why did I not know that? Glad that you mentioned it though so we can try it during our trip in April! Seriously - did you all the fort guys just not tell me? Why did I not know that?

:rotfl2: Oh I love the Prince Charming meeting- My dd who was 9 at the time said "Mom he really is Charming!"
We are debating cabins for this trip. It'll be a tough sell on dh- we were not going to go to disney this year- economy and job worries. But the talk of an extension of the 4/3 deal and I may have to jump on it.
We stayed Boardwalk Concierge last year and I'm just afraid it will be too drastic a change for my deluxe snob dh. He would rather not go than go someplace not great. (but I think he would love that his car is right there and that he could fish!)

LOL...it comes up every few weeks on this board!!! These boards have LOTS of very useful "secrets" to teach...you know about the electric water parade at the beach right? it usually happens just before the fireworks start up. Our usual routine at the fort is
go to campfire/singalong
maybe watch some of the movie...maybe not...depends on whats playing
head to the beach for a good water parade spot
take a stroll down the beach to near the end by the little cabin behind the 300 loop and wait for the fireworks...the music for the fireworks is played from the little cabin.
By this time, the kids are ready to relax in the tent...if they arent..a stop at the pool for a quick dip on the way back usually wears them down.
Everybody gets a good nights sleep.

For some reason I knew about the electric water parade (we watched it once) but not the fireworks. Oh well, that's the great thing about Disney, you're always learning something new. It also explains why I'm addicted to the DIS boards!

Java..there's a considerably less expensive option for staying at the fort....tinah159 is a member here on the boards, she rents out her HUGE 5th wheel camper that sleeps up to 8-9...and it comes with all the convenience of the cabins...but puts you in the middle of all the Forts excitement!! PM her, or check out her website...its www.CampAtTheFort.com (http://www.campatthefort.com), its the BEST way to hit Disney with a large group.

Not the best view but it was fun either way. I've heard the view from the beach at Poly is better. I believe you can take the boat there.

I wish I had more info about the cabins. I didn't take any photos or anything. As another poster mentioned, renting an RV would be fun. You should have no problem fitting 6 people and to me it's more comfortable than two hotel rooms.
Hope you have a good trip.

Animal Kingdom Day!!! Sunday we woke up early and took the yellow bus to the outpost to catch the bus to Animal Kingdom. It was Marathon Weekend and we were warned that the full marathon on Sunday might slow Disney transportation. Saturday wasn’t a problem because we didn’t leave the RV till 10:00. We waited about 20 minutes for the AK bus. Most of the people at the bus stop were waiting for the EPCOT bus, not sure why. We arrived at AK right as the park opened. The crowds were very light but the marathon runners were going through AK so a lot of the roads were blocked. The CMs seemed to have it under control but it was a little hard to get around.
First we got fast passes for EE only because there was a FP area set up by the turn off to Dinoland for EE. We found later that you could also get fast passes beside EE. When arrived in Dinoland we had to wait about 10 minutes to cross the road. CMs would let a few people through every time there was a break in the runners so it took a while. No big deal.
http://inlinethumb61.webshots.com/42876/2422214910102591727S425x425Q85.jpg
My DD and I rode Triceratops Spin while my husband went on Primeval Whirl. There were so few people in the park that the CM let us stay on the ride as long as we wanted to! When my DH returned we switched and I went to ride Primeval Whirl. I wasn’t too impressed. It’s not very thrilling and very jerky. By the time I got off the ride my DD had ridden Triceratops Spin 9 times! Great way to start the day. Dinoland was still empty at the time. Since we were near it we decided to ride Dinosaur. I knew better and should have used better judgment. Dinosaur is way too scary for any kid under 10 and some adults. My DD wasn’t traumatized much, but I had to cover her eyes and ears for most of the ride. :guilty: It was January and I was already out of the running for mother of the year. That’s me on the 2nd row protecting my DD from the scary dinosaur.
http://inlinethumb44.webshots.com/26667/2437745680102591727S425x425Q85.jpg
It was about 10:00 and our EE fast passes were ready to go. The walk was fairly short from Dinoland to EE. My husband used his first while my DD and I decided to go get fast passes for Safari. It was a difficult journey. The marathon runners were taking up the entire pathway except a small area roped off on the side. It was barely large enough to fit the stroller. I felt like we were constantly in someone’s way. I must have said,” Excuse me” and “I’m sorry” 50 times. I hindsight, I should have left the stroller at EE. Plus, it was a longer walk than I had originally thought.
http://inlinethumb24.webshots.com/41431/2303911900102591727S425x425Q85.jpg
Finally we made it to Safari and got our fast passes. The walk back was easier only because we went the other way. We walked toward Camp Minnie and Mickey and then cut back over by the tree. I think, actually…I’m not sure how we got back but eventually we made it.
Empty path. :thumbsup2

My DH was thrilled with our slow pace. He had ridden EE 3 times! The standby line was 20 mins but the single rider line was almost empty. I used my EE FP while my DH and DD had a snack in the EE viewing area. They said they actually saw me flying down the mountain! I thought EE was great. So great that we waiting 15 more minutes so we could get more fast passes. We snacked on frozen bananas with nuts while we waited. Tasty!
We got 3 EE fast passes because we used my DD’s key to the world too. Not sure if that’s cheating or not. Then we started to walk towards Safari. We passed KRR with no wait and decided to ride it. I thought about grabbing my poncho but the people leaving the ride didn’t look very wet so I skipped it. I should have known better. I’m always the one that gets soaked on these rides and as we got closer to the ride, people seemed to look more and more wet. KKR was great. We all loved it. Yes, I got completely soaked at the big plunge at the end. Then the raft stopped right beside this geyser spraying water directly on me and no one else. I just sat there, I couldn’t get anymore wet. My DD was laughing so hard. She was really cute. So now I look like a drowned rat and we’re off to Safari.
Here are some photos of our Safari trip.

We still had 3 fast passes for EE so we moved in that direction. We separated so DH could ride EE and DD and I could see It’s Tough To Be a Bug. Second big mistake of the day. I’m glad we were on the end of a row because DD started to cry and we had to leave. She wasn’t scared of the Haunted Mansion but It’s Tough To Be a Bug brought her to tears. I felt so bad for not researching the show before we left.
I was on a mission to make it up to her so we stopped at the character greeting spot beside the entrance to Dinoland. We followed the path down to the greeting area and were surprised to see Pooh, Eeyore, and Tigger and not another soul besides the CMs!!! The area is a little easy to miss but I was surprised to see no one else there. The three characters spent tons of time with DD. They were chasing each other around. Pooh was doing tricks and tying Eyesore’s tail in a knot. They were so cute.

Tiger bounced with DD for 10 minutes. I couldn’t get a decent photo because they wouldn’t stop bouncing.

Afterwards, we met DH at the bone yard. He gave me the other two FPs for EE. Yeah!! Did I mention that I love EE? When I was finished DD and DH were still playing in the bone yard. We debated seeing Nemo but DH was tired and hungry so we decided to leave. DD wanted to ride Triceratops Spin one more time. There was only a five minute wait.
Don’t get me wrong, we had a great time but Animal Kingdom was our least favorite park. This is weird because we were looking forward to it the most. It didn’t help that I had walked around in wet underwear ever since KKR. I wish we had been able to go back to see Nemo and the parade later in the trip but we never made it.
We were back at the campsite by 3. My DH and DD wanted a nap so I watched TV for a couple of hours. After a few hours a made dinner, woke them up and was ready to go, go, go. We settled on EPCOT. We didn’t wait long for the bus. When we got to EPCOT it was a little before 6.

DD still seemed tired and we were not sure what we would be able to do that late in the day. I like the electronic signs that tell you the current wait times and FP availability. From it we learned that Soarin’ was out of FPs and Mission Space only had a 10 minute wait. So we got 3 FPs for Test Track and then I stayed with DD while DH rode Mission Space. DD was tired and happy to hang out in the stroller while I walked and we enjoyed the atmosphere. The place seemed really empty. DH rode the intense side of MS. He felt a little sick and warned me to ride the wussy side. No problem here. I thought Mission Space was OK. The rest of my crew was not acting very professional and I wasn’t sure if we would make it back to earth safely.

Our TT FPs were ready so we made our way in that direction. We all liked TT and hoped to ride it again later in the week. Since we hadn’t been to the world showcase yet we decided to see a few countries while we waited for Illuminations. We started in Mexico. We got a few churros and strolled around. About 10 minutes later, I realized that our DD wasn’t making a sound so I asked if she liked her churro. No reply. I stopped and walked to the front of the stroller and saw that she had fallen asleep mid-churro. How sweet. The churro was even hanging out of her mouth.
DH and I really enjoyed just exploring and talking with no real plan. We spent a little time in each country.
Wishes from EPCOT:
http://inlinethumb41.webshots.com/9896/2623878470102591727S425x425Q85.jpg
When we got to France I got a Grand Marnier slush. It was very good. Before we knew it we had made it all the way around the world. The viewing area by Futureworld was too crowded for our taste so we walked towards Mexico and found a spot on the bridge. DH was hungry so he got a combination plate: burrito, chicken taco, and cheese fried thing from Mexico. He also got a couple a margaritas. Everything was pretty good. DH said the Nachos didn’t look very appetizing though. Illuminations started a few minutes later. I debated rather to wake-up DD because she really, really likes fireworks and was looking forward to Illuminations. She was sleeping so soundly that I decided not to. I didn’t get any good photos of Illuminations. It was worth seeing but Wishes is better.
On the bus ride back to FW, DD woke up and was disappointed that she didn’t get to see the fireworks. She was so exhausted that we decided to sleep in the next morning rather that our plan to be at EPCOT at opening so she wouldn’t be so tired that she missed anything else

The next morning we slept in, did laundry and got to EPCOT by about 11:00. Tonight was one of the few showings of Fantasmic at HS. We planned to stay at EPCOT and go straight to HS afterward.

Finding Nemo is one of DD’s favorites and all we heard about that morning was Crush this and Crush that. Turtle Talk with Crush was about to start. The kids who feel comfortable sit on the floor at the front of the theater. Adults use the bench seating farther back. At one point during the show, the host asked if anyone had questions for Crush. A bunch on kids raised their hands including DD. Crush called on a few kids and answered their questions then moved on with the show. DD must not have understood that Crush was no longer taking questions because she kept her hand raised the rest of the show. After the show, I had to go get her because she was still sitting there, raising her hand, staring at a blank screen. So, you may want to warn small kids that Crush won’t be able to answer everyone’s questions. We asked if she wanted to see the show again. Maybe Crush would call on her. She said, “No, if he doesn’t want to call on me, then I don’t want to talk to him either”. She hasn’t watched Nemo since we have gotten home. That girl can hold a grudge!
The aquariums were interesting. The view from the 2nd floor is better.
http://inlinethumb21.webshots.com/15508/2705306350102591727S425x425Q85.jpg
We stopped at the Kidcot station and DD colored a dolphin.
http://inlinethumb01.webshots.com/38016/2238146260102591727S425x425Q85.jpg
Next we went to back to the Land to ride Soarin‘. The whole family loved it. We got another set of FPs on our way out. Then we rode Living with the Land and saw Circle of Life.
http://inlinethumb45.webshots.com/25196/2122423950102591727S425x425Q85.jpg
It was about 2:00 and we still had another hour till our FPs so we decided to give them away and go to HS.
We knew HS would be busy because of Fantasmic but still hoped to be able to ride TOT or RRRC. No luck, fast passes were gone for the day and the line was 60 mins at both.

We were able to see the parade, Block Party Bash. I’m not sure it’s really a parade since the floats and performers stay in one spot the whole time. It was cute. Very colorful. The kids were invited into the street to dance.

http://inlinethumb06.webshots.com/40453/2259416470102591727S425x425Q85.jpg
Then we saw Voyage of the Little Mermaid. Not bad.
We walked by Toy Story Mania. Of course, the FPs were gone and the wait was 90 minutes. Next we played on the Honey I Shrunk the Kids playground till it closed. It was great! DD wanted to come back for sure. The Boneyard and Honey I Shrunk the Kids were the best playground in WDW.

We had a little time left so we rode Star Tours and ate dinner at ABC Commissary. Avoid this place. The food was terrible. We made it to Fantasmic at about 6:00 for the 7:00 show. The CMs were announcing that there was standing room only! Oops, we should have showed up earlier. We were able to find two seats, so DD sat in our laps. It was really crowded and the standing room area was full by 6:30. I felt bad for the CM who had to keep telling people they couldn’t sit on the stairs in the isle. People were screaming and cussing at him. Poor guy. It was a long wait with DD in our lap and nothing to entertain her. She was very good though. The audience had a pretty good wave going at one point. Here’s a photo of the crowd about 45 mins before show time.

Fantasmic was worth the wait. What a great show!! I don’t think there was a bad seat in the place but it looked like the front few rows may have gotten a little wet. I liked our view from about ¾ of the way back.

After the show, I thought it would be a traffic jam trying to get out. Not so, the crowd moved fairly quickly and we were on the bus about 8:00.
It was a great day. Thanks to our little taste of HS we were very excited about our full day their tomorrow. I met the nicest family on the bus ride back. Their very polite teenage son gave me his seat since my DD had fallen asleep and I was carrying her. They were traveling with their parents and kids. It made me wish my parents could have made it.

I just wanted to chime in and say that at least one item at the ABC Commissary is tasty, the Cuban. I have only eaten there a couple of times and the only time I remember is from last Christmas when I had the Cuban, and I would rank it up there with the best items I've had from Disney counter service (just below Flametree BBQ! Yum).

We've eaten at ABC as well and the Cuban isn't bad. For such a large cs you'd think they'd have a better selection. I usually try for Sci-Fi and get the Rueben.

We all ordered cheeseburgers. Should have tried the Cuban. The cheeseburgers reminded me of the ones I used to get in my elementary school cafeteria. :)

We ate at Commissary in Dec - DH had the Cuban (loved it) and I actually enjoyed the chicken curry. Not quite "authentic" but tasty and filling.
Pretty sad if they couldn't manage a decent cheeseburger. :(

Hollywood Studios Day!! We woke up bright and early ate breakfast and caught the HS bus at 8:00. So we got there with 45 minutes to spare. There were a few people lined up but we checked out the shop by the entrance. About 8:30 I we got in line but it wasn’t necessary. There were not many people there. About 8:45 we were allowed in the park. Everyone walked to the roped area by the turnoff to TOT. There was a five minute show before the park opened. It helped pass the time but I thought the opening show at MK was better. DD had lined up on the right side so he was closer to TOT and DD and I were in the middle. We had a plan. DH took our keys to the world. He planed to ride TOT and get a fast pass for me, then ride RRRC and get another fast pass for me. DD and I planed to ride Toy Story Mania. When the rope dropped, people took off. I was surprised; the CMs did a good job of holding everyone back. DD and I were not rushed. It’s the slow season and TSM was not going to run out of fast passes in the first 15 minutes. We waited about 15 mins to ride TSM even though the posted wait time was 25mins. TSM is awesome!! It became everyone’s favorite by the end of the week. DD loved it the most.

After the ride we slowly walked back toward TOT and meet up with DH. DD wanted to ride TSM again so DH took her while I went to use my FPs. DH got 3 FPs for TSM after they rode. I had to wait a few minutes till my FPs were ready. I loved TOT. RRRC was pretty good too. The beginning is so great that the rest is a bit of a let down.

My DD is a big fan of Little Einstein so that’s why we choose Hollywood and Vine for one of our character meals. I had heard that the food was not very good but I was impressed. Low expectations possibly. They had salad and soup, really good seafood pasta, creamed corn and cornbread bake and some sort of cheese and potato bake that I couldn’t get enough of. Sorry, I don’t remember more, just that we were happy with our choices. The characters came around several times.

We had hoped to see one of the stunt shows but we never worked it in. We left HS about 2:00. It was starting to rain so it seemed like a good time to make our exit. I bet anyone who stayed enjoyed some really short lines though because it seemed like everyone else was leaving with us.

It rained all afternoon and cooled off quite a bit. DH took a nap. DD and I rode the bus to the Meadow’s area and played in the arcade for a while. We went back to the Meadow’s trading post and got some sort of really expensive frozen drink. DD and I played checkers to waste some more time.
We went back to the RV watched a movie and cooked dinner. DH finally woke up. We discussed what to do and decided to go to Downtown Disney to get desert.
We arrive at Downtown Disney about 7:00. We shopped and stopped by Ghirardelli’s for some ice cream. Expensive but worth every penny!

I got DD some princess mouse ears.
We stopped by Goofy’s candy company to get a treat for tomorrow. My DD picked rice crispy mouse ears, covered in choc, M&Ms and white choc drizzle. I got marshmallow with choc and Oreos. Both were great and well worth the $5 we paid for them.

We had planned to have breakfast at the Crystal Palace at 8:05 but we cancelled the ADR earlier in the trip. She had already met Winnie and the Pooh and the gang. Plus, we were having trouble figuring out how to get to the MK that early without taking a cab.

They were pushing and dragging their little girls. I thought it was a little ridiculous. So what if you’re not the first one to Tinkerbell!
Everyone went to Tinkerbell and the princess line was empty. We were happy to only wait about 15 minutes since the wait was closer to an hour later in the day. The fairies were so cute and sweet. They took their time with each kid. DD got to meet 3.

http://inlinethumb21.webshots.com/29780/2217975730102591727S425x425Q85.jpg

http://inlinethumb30.webshots.com/43613/2140835310102591727S425x425Q85.jpg

http://inlinethumb43.webshots.com/33642/2974384830102591727S425x425Q85.jpg
Then the haunted mansion with a 10 minute wait.
We checked back to see if Peter Pan was open, no luck.
DD had been talking about riding BTMR ever since she chickened out before. We walked over there but she had a change of heart. Too scary.
We stopped to ride the Magic Carpets with a very short wait. DD wanted to meet Aladdin but he was no where to be found.
We were all getting hungry for lunch so we left for the campground. But we stopped on the way out to meet....

That afternoon, we all took a nap and went back to the MK after a snack. We didn’t get there till after 6:00. The place seemed empty. We rode Buzz, TTA, Dumbo twice, Winnie the Pooh, Snow White, the Carousel and the Tea Cups twice before Wishes.
Empty Fantasyland!!

We watched Wishes from Fantasyland. It was kinda cool. You felt like you were in the middle of Wishes rather than watching it from a distance. Fireworks go off from the castle and behind Fantasyland so you have to keep turning back and forth and you can’t see Tinkerbell. So I wouldn’t recommend this viewing spot unless you have seen Wishes before.

We had planned to have breakfast at the Crystal Palace at 8:05 but we cancelled the ADR earlier in the trip. She had already met Winnie and the Pooh and the gang. Plus, we were having trouble figuring out how to get to the MK that early without taking a cab.
For future reference, early breakfast at the Magic Kingdom or any of the monorail resorts is easy. Just head to the marina, and board one of the small launches that runs between the Fort, Contemporary, and Wilderness Lodge. That boat starts at 6:45am. Once you get to the Contemporary, it is a short walk or monorail ride to your destination!!
To get to early meals elewhere, just get down to the Outpost bus stop by 6:45 am and a bus should be available to any of those parks by 7am.

Thank you for the info and I'm sure your right.
The CMs told us that the boat to the monorail resorts didn't run till 8:00 and the same for the busses. I found it hard to believe that this question didn't come up all the time but two of the CMs we asked told us it was impossible for us to have a ressie at Crystal Palace that early because the park wasn't open. :confused3 But they politely misinformed us and then wished us a magical day so I can't really be angry at them.

We slept in Thursday and made it to EPCOT about 10:00. My DD wanted to dress like a princess and meet as many characters as she could. We got fast passes for Soarin’ and went to the character spot at EPCOT. The line was short and we were able to meet Mickey, Goofy, Minnie, Pluto and Donald.

About 6:15 we found a spot for Spectromagic. I waited while DH and DD got cinnamon rolls. I also got DD a $10 balloon she had asked for all week. But get this…the balloon is still standing 4 weeks later. I don’t know if we just got a super-balloon or what but if they all last a month, then they are worth the $10. We all liked Spectromagic. I don’t think it’s worth a special trip but it’s worth seeing if you are already at MK.

Our last day!!! :sad1: We woke up a little bummed because the trip was over but we had an exciting day planned. Since MK was our favorite was wanted to end the trip with Wishes. HS was our second favorite and we hadn’t gotten enough of TSM so we started the day there. We were there for rope drop and enjoyed the 5 minute show. This time we all stayed together and followed the crowd to TSM. We took the time to get fast passes before we got in the standby line. I’m not sure if this is the best strategy or not but we wanted to get an early window to get more FPs for TOT and RRRC. There was about an hour difference in FP return times from when we got in the standby line and when we got off the ride. But we may have waited longer in the standby line because we got the FPs first. No way to know.

If I remember correctly my DH used the standby line to ride TOT while DD and I waited till we were able to get one fast pass for TOT (for me) and two fast passes for RRRC(for DH and I). Again we used my DD’s ticket to get FPs for us adults, not sure if that’s cheating or not.
http://inlinethumb23.webshots.com/470/2708363910102591727S425x425Q85.jpg
DH got off TOT and we met up to go use our FPs for TSM. Our last ride. I am happy to report that I had the highest score of the trip and beat by DH by about 20,000 pts. Ha ha, bragging rights till our next trip.

We wanted to see the Stunt Show but I was in line for RRRC too long and we missed the 11:00 show. We left HS about noon with no real plan. We wanted to go back to Downtown Disney. Since there is not a direct bus we were planning on taking a bus to any resort and then catching the Downtown Disney bus from there but when we left HS we noticed the boat and thought it would be fun to ride it instead (we were in no rush). We got off at the beach and yahat club (BEAUTIFUL hotel) and caught the bus from there.
Does anyone know if that same boat goes to EPCOT?

http://inlinethumb36.webshots.com/1379/2409869330102591727S425x425Q85.jpg
From Downtown Disney we took the bus to the Contemporary and rode the Monorail to MK. It was fun getting to see some of the other resorts (I think we are lifelong FW fans though).
http://inlinethumb39.webshots.com/45030/2257493760102591727S425x425Q85.jpg
I didn’t take very many photos at MK that night. It was our last night and we were trying to take it all in. I remember riding Carosel of Progress, Space Mountain, TTA, Buzz, the Tea Cups, Tomorrowland Speedway, Winnie the Pooh (with fast pass), Mickey’s Philharmagic, Haunted Mansion, and Allidin’s Magic Carpets. The big news is that my DD finally was brave enough to ride BTMR. She loved it and was so proud to ride a real roller coaster. Even though it was a little busier than earlier in the week we were able to do a lot. We tried to get fastpasses for Peter Pan but they were out by 4:00 and the wait was 60 minutes!

About 7:30 we picked a spot for Wishes. We sat at the tables in front of the Plaza Resturant. We got food from Casey’s and popcorn from the nearby stand. We also ate our Goofy treats. We didn’t have the best view but I would sit there again. There were no trees blocking our view and it was nice to be able to sit in a chair.
MK didn’t close till 9:00 and DD wanted to ride Peter Pan so bad. We walked back to Fantasyland after Wishes and rode Winnie the Pooh one last time and then got in the long line for PP. We waited about 30 minutes. It was worth it. By the time we exited PP, the park was closed. DD felt asleep in her stroller. If I wasn’t so tired, I would have held onto the turnstiles until security dragged me out of there. I REALLY didn’t want the trip to be over but we had a great time. One last boat ride back to FW. We were able to see the Electrical Water Pageant from the boat.
Our last morning we slept in and packed up. At 10:00 the pony rides start so we took DD for one last pony ride and then it was time to leave.

Is the International Gateway by the World Showcase? So guests staying at those resorts can take a boat to HS and EPCOT?

Things we did right:
Stayed at the Fort!!
Fit Fantasmic into our schedule.
Didn’t use the dining plan. We saved a lot of money and time. Plus we’re not really “restaurant people”.
Stayed 9 nights. Any less time and we would have felt rushed.
Didn’t purchase the photopass. Photos with our camera were enough.
Took an afternoon break most days.
Brought plenty of snacks and bottled waters.
Got up early most days. The parks are soooo much more fun right after opening.
Visited the character spot at EPCOT to meet Mickey.
Spent more time at MK than any other park. Because my DD is 4, MK was the best park by far.
Didn’t rent a car or tow ours. Disney transportation was just fine for us.
I’m glad we paid to use tour guide websites. Since it was our first trip, we learned a lot. Also, the days that we didn’t go to a suggested park, we noticed a difference in crowds.
I’m glad we didn’t make specific plans for most of our evenings and the last two days. It gave us the flexibility we wanted.
Things we should have done differently:
Should have gone to Goofy’s Candy Co everyday
Should have done more research on specific rides. I scared the crap out of my DD on Dinosaur and It’s Tough to be a Bug. We hadn’t planned to ride either of these so I didn’t do any pre-trip research.
Should have budgeted to rent a golf cart.
Should have made time in the afternoon to do Fort activities
Should not have booked so many character meals. The Cinderella one was worth keeping but because the parks were so slow we could meet any characters we wanted without much of a line.
Should have seen the parade at Animal Kingdom.
Should have tried the Trail’s End buffet.
Should have skipped dinner in the RV the night we went to EPCOT. Lots of tasty options in the World Showcase.
Should have seen the stunt shows at HS.
Should have found a way to use these smilies::yay: :teacher:  :snooty: :rockband: :sail: :laundy:
Now that I’ve finished my trip report, I’m even more depressed. We had planned for our trip to Disney to be a one time event. Maybe go back when DD is a teenager. But now that it’s over, I really want to go back sooner and bring my parents. Maybe next year.
I mentioned it to DH last weekend. Something like, “Wouldn’t it be fun to go to WDW next year with Granddaddy and Memaw?” He didn’t answer me just looked at me like I’m crazy. Not sure I can afford a divorce and a trip to Disney so it doesn’t look good.

The best remedy for Post-Fort blues is to do a trip report (check), the second best is to make a reservation! I would recommend you pick a date you would like for your next trip and make a reservation way in advance... like 499 days (the max). Pick a time when something specific is going on that makes it different than just a generic trip to WDW: like Christmas with the special party and decorations (especially at the Fort), or halloween. Tell Hubby that the Fort books up quick and that you just want the ressie IN CASE you can use it, and it's only 1 night's deposit. If you can't use it, you can cancel within 5 days of the arrival date for a full refund. There is no risk, and you'll have the bug planted! Then start setting aside a little cash. I never use change and take the change I do get and put it in a jar. Every time I break a $20 I try to stash a few ones or a five in a different part of my wallet. Then you should start trying to involve him in some of your excitement about something you want to do next trip (whenever it may be), like sharing other folk's reviews of the Hoop Dee Doo. When he breaks down and says "sure, we'll have to do that next time" tell him it fills up months in advance and you'd better buy your tickets soon. Inch by inch you move from totally non-committed to having a vacation that is largely paid for, fully planned, and emotionally invested in. Good luck in your mission Agent Blake!
BTW - July 20 is 499 days from Dec 1, 2010... a super time to arrive at Fort Wilderness -- Pre-holiday rates, decorations are up, Candlelight Processional is running, and so is Mickey's Very Merry Christmas Party!

Give it a little time to percolate (Shannon's suggestion is great!) Reminisce, look at the pics, let DD go on and on about what a wonderful time she had...
Before you know it DH will be coming home saying, "I've been thinking, maybe it WOULD be fun to go back this year..."
After the first trip DH and I took together (land/sea - stayed at BC), he was very much "ok, that's enough for a while." Then we went back 2 years later and stayed off site. He was a bit more enthusiastic, but still "well, enough for a while..." So we went back 2 years later- this time with our first TT and our pups. He was pretty much sold, but that TT was kind of more than we needed and a bit tougher to deal with than we'd have liked (long story), so he wasn't super keen to come back right away.
Cut to 2 years later, our new hybrid TT that we love and use a TON, and our first time trying the DDP. That trip really cemented FW and Disney as "our vacation" for him and before we'd even packed up to leave he was brainstorming how we could manage to swing *3* weeks the next year.
The last 2 years we've booked the next trip before we even arrived. :dance3:
It can happen. Good luck!! ;)

Ive been main-lining this TR for the past week....its SO WELL DONE!!
Here's a very VERY important TIP for YOU...NOT YOUR HUSBAND.......
That "look" he gave you when you suggested going back next year....he felt that was his JOB to give that look, in most families..the guy feels like its Up to HIM to act like Disney is an irresponsible expense, and as a responsible adult...he's SUPPOSED to block any un-necessary fun......BUT INSIDE he wishing like a child that you oppose him on this...he wants to go as bad as you do...but is afraid that thats not cool of him.
I, like many of the men on this board, have stepped out of the Disney CLOSET. Im have come to grips with my lust for Disney and am now OPENLY Disneyfied..and am much happier for it. Use your beautiful daughter to lure him out of his closet...use the MANLINESS and ECONOMICAL aspect of CAMPING at the fort to tempt him to step into the Disney light!! He's ready to come out of his closet....he just needs some female trickery to turn the knob.
See you at the Fort in October!!!!!

:goodvibes Love, love, love the advice! Vacations are high on our priority list so we put money aside each month to be able to take one big and one small vacation a year. We have to plan our trips about a year in advance because it's so hard for both of us to get off work. Unfortunately, from Thanksgiving to New Years, my DH absolutely can't get off work. What I'm trying to decide now is if I should put on the pressure to book 2010 or just let it go till 2011.
I just spoke to my DH on the phone. I asked, "What did he have in mind for 2010 vacations?” He said, "Maybe a road trip." A road trip! A ROAD TRIP! What's wrong with that man! :rotfl:
So, what's my best course of action?
a) begging
b) hypnotism
c) threats
Of if all else fails, I could just book it and kidnap him with my DD's Buzz Lightyear gun when the time comes.

And . . . don't wait until DD is a teenager to return. Looking at your photos, I see your daughter had the time of her life!
As the father of three little girls, the youngest of whom are about to turn 14 in a few months :(, I can attest that time flies by too quickly. I am glad that we have been able to visit WDW and, Fort Wilderness in particular, as often as we have, and I know that my girls will have those memories forever. Maybe that will get me into a decent nursing home.
So, get going on planning that next trip!

Since Christmas is out I would start angling toward either Halloween or the spring Flower & Garden show at Epcot. The key is to find an event that you can get excited about, and the event creates a time window that you have to hit... WDW is always there, we can do that anytime, but Mickey's Not So Scary Halloween Party is just a few weeks a year! Missing the window means a full year of disappointment -- no husband wants to risk that!

Halloween would be great! I need to work around the school schedule obstacle. I've spoken to DD's teacher next year (small private school so only one teacher) and she doesn't think that DD should miss school for a vacation. Although I disagree and don't think a couple of missed days of Kindergarten will affect her SAT scores, I respect her teachers too much to take her out anyway. So, I'm looking at President's Day weekend (Wed - Mon) since school is out, or June, or Thanksgiving week 2010. All will be super busy compared to our last trip. I believe President's Day will be the least busy option and great weather but only 4 full days! June will be hot and crowded but we can stay about 10 days. Thanksgiving week will be the most crowded but good weather and Christmas events. Thanksgiving will be the hardest for DH to get off work. The weeks after Thanksgiving are the ones that are impossible.

Oy, these teachers. Let me preface my remarks by saying that Mrs. TCD is a teacher. Trust your instincts. A few days of missed kindergarten, or 1st grade, or 2nd grade, or any grade will not harm your child! At all! Looking over your trip report, and being a WDW veteran, I have to tell you that your trip was perfectly timed during a very slow part of the year. Visiting during a busy time is fun, but it is not anywhere near as much fun as visiting when things are not packed. Your little girl is only going to be little for a short time. If I could do things over again, I would have taken my kids out of school even more than the few days that we let them miss on occasion. Enjoy it while you can.

I agree with you about a few missed days. Is President's Day weekend and the week before THAT much busier? How bad are we talking about? The tour guide web site that we used said it was only a little bit busier.
How is May?

I have visited on President's Day weekend for the past three years. It is very busy, and the Fort charges their arm and a leg rates. (this year, my site is $43 for Thursday night, and then $73 for Fri-Sun nights- a $30 per night surcharge for the same exact site!).
On this weekend, I fully expect that there will be long waits on some of the major attractions (like an hour or more). I will post a trip report when I get back to confirm how things go.
Late April/early May is good. After Mother's Day, it starts to get busy again.

Now wait a minute. Isn't a trip to Canada, England, France, Japan, Italy, Mexico, Sweden and other countries educational???? Isn't checking out the architectural aspects of a castle something to share. Isn't the study of animals (mice, tiggers, pooh bears, donalds) and their habits truly life changing?

Our DD is 24 now and we took her to WDW all the time when she was in school. We never had a problem with the teachers, we would tell the teacher a couple weeks in advance and they would always get the work together for her and she would have it all done when we returned. A note on little girls: they may act like they don't know you when your at the mall or anywhere their friends can see you but take them to WDW and they are like little girls holding your hand and putting their arms around you. It was nice while it lasted.:cloud9: :cutie:

Great Trip report! I just wanted to let you know that Presidents day usally falls around Daytona 500 or bike week so it busy down ther plus a 3 day week end. I also wanted to mention that we would take our son out of school (we did not want to spend vacation in Disney when it was busy) and the teacher would all get his assignments for the week and he would turn them in when he got back. He was a honor roll student and very rarely missed school.

very well said. people that have little ones will soon see you can't get those days back and the school days , while important, are not really missed in the whole scheme of things. we took my son out up until 9th grade (when attendance starts to count) and he still got in the air force academy! if you're going to do it, the lower grade school years are the best. Family time is important too! Don't let the teachers make your vacation schedules!

Hey we were at the fort during the same time and had a great trip! Our first trip and for a DD who does not like the whole Disney thing as much as me and my DD4 and DS6 he actually had a wonderful time too.....He loved the fort! I am sooo ready to go back but my DD has to wait until he gets more vacation days. The school thing is also an issue, this year his teacher was great with it, but with both of them in school next year it may not be such a breeze. However, if I can swing it we will always go back in January! Really enjoyed your trip report.......TSM was my DS6 favorite and my DD4 loved the BBB, she was Jasmine for the day! The only thing we missed was Fantasmic I think they only had one show that week bummer.....Thanks Disney for having the Fort, there is hope my DD will return

Good luck!! ;)
hehe
I agree with this (and Shannon's suggestion IS great! it works! LOL)
For us I wanted to go to WDW my whole life but DH just tolerates it for us.
Yes, put your DD on the case- she'll get it done. Atleast that's what works for us (our youngest doing the begging LOL)
Anyway DH tolerates it for us- we've gone a few times without him too though. But he is okay with going when it's a longer trip and we don't have to go commando the entire time. What really clinched it for him was the cruises- he likes the Disney cruise- so I can usually sneak in a trip to WDW or DL before the cruise without any problems at all. hehe ;)
We're staying at FW for the first time on our upcoming trip and I just KNOW he'll be hooked then... he likes going camping in the TT and I know he'll like FW way better than any of the resorts, combined with cruise- I anticipate he'll be raring to go again after this trip as much as the rest of us always are! :)

What a great trip report! Love your sense of humor' ;) And your daughter IS a princess. All the pictures are great!
How great it is to go on a low season. You guys did make a lot out of your days. Good job! :thumbsup2
Thanks for the tips about the Character Spot. I guess I have a better idea of what to expect now.
I haven't even gone to Disney yet and I already know I will have the Disney blues as soon as we get back :)

:thumbsup2

We were tent camping from Jan 9-16th, same week as you...I'm pretty certain we had the same grumpy driver on the yellow bus line we took to the settlement! I guess he was having a bad week!

I realized as I was looking thru your pictures that we were not at Disney on the same week since you were not wearing coats...I kept thinking, there is no way this can be right!!! I went back and looked, noticed that your trip was last year and someone's new comment bumped your thread up making think it was new.
I guess that grumpy driver wasn't having a bad week...he's having a bad year!!!
Your pics were still fun to look at even though are trips were a year apart!
