Hey Team!!!

This is the month of Valentine's and Healthy Heart Month!! We are the poster children for this month! I encourage everyone to review the signs of a heart attack and stroke (especially the ladies) and make every beat count!!!

What Counts in the Challenge
All exercise: running, walking, wogging, biking, swimming, skiing, cross-training, lifting weights, yoga, Pilates, chasing hotties…. If it raises your heart rate, it counts! If an activity can reasonably be calculated in terms of distance, keep track of both miles and hours/minutes. If not, it still counts for hours/minutes.

Reporting Miles and Hours/Minutes
This year’s challenge begins February 1st. We’re asking all members to keep track of their mileage and hours/minutes and report them to the thread or to captains regularly (weekly or monthly, your choice). We’ll publish the team’s monthly totals on the first post of the thread for our records and so that other teams can feel inspired (intimidated?) by our progress.

If any team member wants to publish their individual totals, place your miles and hours/minutes in your signature area. You can update those totals as often as you would like. Feel free to draw our attention to your many accomplishments, training strategies, any training challenges or injuries, questions, and of course upcoming events.

Most Important Rule
Remember, participation in the challenge is for you! Don’t obsess about the challenge and its miles and minutes. Concentrate on the best YOU possible.

Glad everyone could come back! And checkout our new member!!

Hey Team!!!

This is the month of Valentine's and Healthy Heart Month!! We are the poster children for this month! I encourage everyone to review the signs of a heart attack and stroke (especially the ladies) and make every beat count!!!

If you guys just want to keep your time and miles in your signatures, I will find it there. Just be sure to have it broken out for the month we are in, so that I can post both the monthly total and the Total total??? :rotfl: Or send me a PM if you like! We won't be using the spread sheet, so I will post it at the top of each new monthly thread!! Thanks!

:grouphug:

Good morning Captain Connie. I will begin training again tomorrow so today is only rest and work. I have been doing some easy training to get ready to start back in earnest. I have a lot of goals for the year so I need to get after them.

My conservative goals for the year are to stay healthy and walk a 5K under 33 min. Anyone else have any goals made?

This month my goal is to loose the 10 lbs I put on in January, darn vacation!

Have an awesome day y'all.

Hey Hakuna Matata!

Just driving by to say Best of Luck with your miles and minutes this year! I am so psyched all the Teams are getting new cousins! We are going to make new friends, but keep the old -- and you guys are some of the oldies but goodies!

Thanks Maria!

I got in a 4 mile walk this morning, knee did not hurt as much as in the past, but still hurts enough to make walking without limping very difficult! My pace was really slow, over 16 mm's. But I am encouraged that the knee felt better than 2 days ago!

I am also looking to lose some weight - I did not gain any at WDW, but I have not lost any since I have been home either - and I have been trying to eat better! Quess I'll have to cut some of the quantity!

Have a great evening everyone!

Woot Woot! You folks rocked January! :cool1:

I love your post on Healthy Heart month, too! What a great way to organize your thread. And to keep all us WISHers focused on what's important! :thumbsup2

Connie: I forgot to mention the doubled miles for races on our thread. Thought I'd remind you, too!

Hi TEAM! :wave2:

Love the Heart Healthy Month! ::yes::

Congratulations, TEAM! You did great for January!!!!

Me too: This month I too need to get back on track with my walking, gym, and healthier eating habits. Did not gain at WDW but did gain before and since! It seems I am one who does not lose when I am sick :guilty:

Hakuna Matata guys!!! You all have an awesome team and some fantastic leadership. (I hope I can live up to their model!)

Dave Those are some great goals. My main goals are to break the 3 hour mark on a Half Marathon and just trying to be the best that I can be!!

As for the rest, let's get out there and have a fantastic year!!

Good Morning Team!

Looks like it is going to be a good week here, warmer, not too windy after today, I am planning some good walks this week. Today is my cross training - leg routine, Pilates tape, maybe some Yoga, and a shorter walk with the dogs.

Have a great day everyone!

Good morning Team!!!

I didn't get my speed work in yesterday. I guess I pushed a little too hard on the cross training. But I will have those miles and minutes! Heck, with training for the Goofy this year, I can't help but have them!!

Good game last night.

I have to take our tractor in for repair today. I will get to see my GS12, whose birthday is today. Nope, he's not a groundhog or a prognosticator of any kind. He was just born on Groundhog Day. He didn't even stay in Holiday Inn Express last night!!

Thanks for the reminder of double miles on races, Debra!!! Thanks for coming by! Thanks for letting borrow your rules, too!!! :thumbsup2

Make a great day, friends and cousins!

Happy Monday everyone! Wow, I can't believe it's February already! I heard on the news this morning that the groundhogs are predicting a longer winter. But the report also mentioned that they're only 50% accurate. So I'm hoping they're wrong this time :)

Connie - Happy belated birthday!!! :cake: Chasing hotties is counted as exercise ... hmm... you must have known that I was looking for a new exercise since I'm taking a short break from running!

Dave - I haven't set any concrete exercise goals this year. I have the usual lose weight. I'm hoping I can drop 10 pounds by the 1/2 in May but I usually can't lose while I'm training. I'm also hoping to run a 1/2 in under 2:20.

Eva - Not sure about the cross border meds. I'm pretty sure you can't do prescription meds but OTC might be okay.

Margie - I lost 4 pounds while I was sick but that was what I gained at WDW. So unfortunately it all evened out. It wasn't the greatest way to lose weight but I'll take it. Cleaner (or clean-ish as I was telling Debra) eating is on my to-do list too!

Lynn - Yay for warmer weather! We had a little bit over the weekend. The roads were all wet with the melting snow. Unfortunately, I've heard the colder weather is coming back on Wedneday. Boo!

JPFamilyMom - :welcome:

Scott - I'm the same with sports, not much into the mainstream stuff either. I do want to check out some of the Superbowl commercials later tonight.

That's all for me! Have a great day everyone!

Happy Groundhog Day Everyone!

It's Monday again. Why do the 2 days of the weekend always fly by?

Welcome! Familymom

My work relocated to a new office over the weekend. Our department really lucked out with the window seats. So bright & sunny today. Just makes you feel better about being at work.

Dropped my paperwork off at the new gym I joined. Had planned on working out today but with unpacking etc. I will start fresh tomorrow.

Happy belated birthday, Connie.

Made it to pilates class on Sun. Finally had some nice temps. & sun but it made the road a melting mess.

Dave, glad to hear your back at it & had a good workout.

I need to get back to work. Havea great evening.....Sue

Hi!

Just wanted to say hello. I'm just getting back into training after doing the half at WDW. I was on the Herc's Heroes team, and have been placed with you wonderful folks. The Half was my first long distance race, and I was definitely a wogger. (More walking than jogging.)

My next race will be the mini marathon in Indianapolis May 2. DH admitted he was a bit jealous of me doing the half and WDW and signed up for the mini as well. We are both doing the Donald in 2010.

Hey all, so I'm off to a bad start for February. Sundays are my rest day and yesterday got away from me. We had relocated a month ago and my son had just been diagnosed with ASD, though I still think it's more like ADHD, and I'm trying to get him into preschool down here (I was on the phone all day yesterday, and finally we can go take some tours this week). So today I will do my first jog/walk of the week. I'm on the couch to 5K plan.

(When I log my miles and hours, how does that work? If I run 30 min and make it 2 miles is it 2 miles and also 30 min? And then when I do my yoga or other cross training, do I just add that time into my minutes? Thanks in advance)

Goals: I was never a runner, I walked the mile all through school, and danced my way through college, well until I stopped due to having kids, lol, anyhow so my goals are to first run a 5K sometime between April and October, I found two I would be interested in doing. Then my BIG goal is the 1/2 in WDW 2010. :)

Thanks for the welcome wishes

Good Morning Team!

Welcome Mary!

Just live the new office. I can sit at my desk, see out the window & know it's snowing. AGAIN! Not too much today but cold temps. tomorrow.

Goals for 2009.
It will be all about the cross training.
I joined another gym so I can go at lunch for weight training.
I have registered for 1 race - Toronto Waterfront Marathon. Doing the full.
Would love a 4:15 finish.
Using this as a warm up for the Goofy. I have set huge goals for myself for these races. I have said them to my husband. Just not ready to post.

Have a great day & happy training. On the tm tonight........Sue

Good Morning Team!

:welcome: MaryJ! Glad to hear that you are getting your husband involved also! I will also be at the 1/2 marathon in 2010 (as opposed to all the Goofy's around here:rotfl2: )

JPFamilyMom - count miles and time - for example - ran 3 miles in 30 min, then did weights for 30 min, then a Pilates tape for 30 min, would be posted as 3 miles AND 1 hour 30 min. I keep a tally for the week, then send a PM to Connie (Steffwalks) with the weekly totals.

Connie - I know I am late for last week, and I see that you have already posted Jan totals, but I will PM you as soon as I get this posted! I promise!

It is getting warmer out, but still windy. I will have to brave the wind for my walk later! Yesterday I did get in a good leg workout, a Pilates tape, and then just a short walk with the dogs - the wind - 25-35mph - kept trying to blow me and the dogs into the street! I cut it short - 2.23 miles instead of the 3 miles I was planning on. It should be calmer the next 2 days, so I will have to take advantage of them for longer walks.

Have a great day everyone!

Good moning guys.

I have a thread going over on the DisneyRunning, along with Connie and Princessrunner from the Goofs Team, on my walking section, under the Heading "Training Thoughts and Ideas, where we are doing a year long training of a couple of people to do the Goofy in 2010. It's called "Train our Prince and Princess". Check it out if you wanna, lots of advice in layman terms.

Connie, 3 miles for me today and 1 hour total, so week so far 7 miles and 3 hours.

Lynn dear we have your wind here today, gusts to 50 mph. Snow is blowing sideways. Safe travels to Scott.

Will you nice Canadian folk please close the door up there so your temps don't come down here, we are cold.

Have an awesome day y'all.

Hi everyone! I went to the gym for my weekly training session yesterday. My PT was away so I was booked in with DF's trainer. It was kind of neat to change things up. Normally, I do a lot of weights, squats and lunges but yesterday I tried boxing for the first time. Lots of fun and the time flew by! It makes me wish I could add a boxing class into my routine.

Mary - :welcome: I will be doing the 1/2 at WDW for the second time in 2010!

JPFamilyMom - I will be doing the Donald in 2010 for the second time too! I recommend doing a 10K race as well simply because it's longer and it will give you a better idea of how your body reacts to going for longer distances. You can also use that race as a proof of time for the WDW 1/2 if you need to.

Sue - Glad to hear you lucked out with a window seat! Our pod sits near a window too and I love the natural light.

Dave - Oh but we love sharing the cold weather! Just kidding... rather than closing the door, I wish I could just stop all the cold weather. I hate it too.

Connie - Thanks for the link! I'll check it out after posting.

Lynn - Yikes! That is windy! Glad to hear that better weather is on its way!

Margie - Glad to hear you're feeling better!!

Ok, that's it for me! Have a great day everyone!

I was just wondering if we keep losing our jobs here if the Canadians will have to put up a fence to keep the illegal Americans from sneaking across the border to find work. I hear the Mexicans are already going home to get work.

I shouldn't be allowed to watch cable news all day. I need warm weather so I can go out and play.

Hi everyone!

I've been a slug but it's the winter getting me down. So today I got out my very expensive P90X DVD's and did the arms/back. Now some of you may know that I have a bad neck so I did take it easy and only did girl pushups. I think if my life depended on me doing 10 regular push-ups I'd certainly be dead:rotfl2:

But I gave it a shot, gave the team 1 hour of workout time and realized that all my attention do my lower body really weakened my upper body. I have the go ahead from my PT to do anything that I want so I'm trying to build some strength in my arms and back. I hope some day to be able to do regular push-ups and get through that dvd. I do not have all their equipment but I improvise my movements to imitate theirs. I have a hard time moving my mouse my arms are so weak now. their shakey too, it's kind of funny and I expected to sew tonight. I may sew but I won't be cutting fabric with a rotary cutter, could lose a few digits in the process.

Hi to all our regulars and welcome to the new team members. Hope this winter ends soon. At least the streets become less narrow so we can go out on the weekends. The cars come to close now so we have to stay inside.

Have a good night.

A post on another thread (cruise thread) said the high in central Fl today was going to be 51 degrees - our high is supposed to be 60 degrees:confused3 the best part of our forecast is the mild wind! Tomorrow is supposed to be the same, but Sat. will bring cold and snow!

Denise - I have lots of work to do on my upper body as well. I have an easy time doing lunges and squats but ask me to do the plank or a push up and I have a lot of trouble.

Yes it's suppose to get bitter cold again tomorrow and all my really warm clothes, I've already worn this week! I think -8 tomorrow. But we'll be having a heat wave on Sunday 45. Woo Hoo, I may go out for some miles! Will have to wear rain gear, I'm sure the cars will be spraying as t hey go by.

No workout today, I"m just so beat. I have GOT to get out of this funk. .

Ok, even though I've had dinner, I'm going to go do 20 min on the ellip and some floor exercises. At least it's something to make me sweat!

Guilt, it s a great incentive, plus, I'm going back to WDW in March for a few days with Mark. Ya I know, thank god for DVC, I have SWA miles, an annual pass and we'll bring a lot of food with us. Good Morning Team!

Vicki - I am not really sure about the job, it is a "Crew Leader Assistant", so I am guessing that there will be both office work, supervision and door to door work - right now the goal is addressing, so I am also guessing not so much door to door and talking to folks, but more confirming houses on properties. I was also told that I might be taking fingerprints (processing new employees), teaching classes, and was also told that there is a possibility of advancing to higher position during the 4 day training session - so, who knows, I might end up as a "Crew Leader" instead of "Crew Leader Assistant"!

Dave - it is again warmer here than it is in Florida:rotfl2: Currently 44 with high of 59, but it is windier today than it was yesterday!

I seem to have had a relapse with my knee, it has bothered me more the last 2 days than a few days earlier. I did get in a good leg routine and a few Pilates exercises yesterday, then went out for a walk. I am walking very slowly - trying not to favor my hurting knee - but the weather was so nice, I ended up walking 6 miles! I will go back out today for another walk, hoping for another 6 miles, but will wait until it warms up a little more since the wind is blowing (warm wind is not as hard to deal with as cold wind!). Tomorrow will be a day off from walking, will do leg routine, but then the day will be consumed with cleaning house and shopping for party we are hosting tomorrow night!

Have a great day everyone!

Lynn, I know you will have your knee checked if it doesn't get better with rest. I would give it a couple of days since you might have strained it without realizing it.

I had a nice treadmill 4 miler since it was minus 5 degrees here with the chill factor. Connie that gives me 15 for the week with 9 hours of exercise total.

Have a super day everyone.

Lynn - I was going to say that based on your description, it sounds more like you're the leader rather than the assistant leader. pixiedust: for your knee! I'm glad you have nice weather that lets you exercise outdoors!

Sue - I saw the weather report in the elevator this morning. Calgary has a high of 10C. Shouldn't they have our -20C? :goodvibes

Hi Kids,

Just a quick one here, got in a fast 5K last night outside while the weather was nice, first one under 30 min, OK so it was only 10 sec under 30 min, but hey it was under 30 min.

My gut is teling me Lynn will get a better position as she gets into the census thing.

Connie, go easy with the weights, it is just a slow thing.

Vicki, weather in the elevator, scarry but Kewl. I guess it beats Barry Manalow music.

Jennifer, good luck with classes adn your running is going well. Someday I might be that fast, LOL I can dream.

The rest of you guys try and stay warm, Dave needs little panda mittens.

Hey guys! I have been bogged down as ever with work and school. I have not been running much and I have gained a fluctuating 5-10 pounds since Thanksgiving. Ugh. Sorry I have been absent. I really do need to gear it up.
I am, however, forfeiting my miles and minutes involvement. I'll send my past totals to Connie and let somebody else have my slot. If all goes well we will be pregnant soon and I won't be able to "push it" with my exercise. I'll still workout and run, but I want my body messages to be the deciding factor in how I hard and long I want to go, not my dedication level. I will still love to be able to post and be a part of Hakuna Mata though...as long as youll have me. How about it?

Captain, Connie!

Thanks Bunches for the Heart Attack link -
but geez I think these could be listed as a few of my 'normal' symptoms on any given day :rotfl2:

Sorry - Thanks for Talking such Good Care of us!

Women should learn the heart attack warning signs. These are:

Pain or discomfort in other areas of the upper body, including the arms,
back, neck, jaw, or stomach.
Other symptoms, such as a shortness of breath, breaking out in a cold
sweat, nausea, or light-headedness.

About the elevator and weather ... :) We have mini TV screens in the elevators in our building. They're most there for ads but they do have news, weather, traffic, stock quotes etc. I work in a 45 storey building so even though I'm not in the top floor, I do spend a minute or so going up and down. Quite a few of the buildings in our area have them so I always assume everyone has them ;)

Eva - Don't go!!! I don't think you have to be actively in training to participate on the teams. Ok - at least I'm not right now :) I'm on a one month running hiatus to give my body a break.

Margie - I will send you a PM!

Scott - I agree with Margie! We need more recipes and dinner ideas! I forgot to tell you that I made your babotie recipe before I went to WDW last month. DF and I went to Boma while we were there and agreed that the recipe you and Lynn have is sooo much better!

Hi guys!

Margie! One of the very most important things to remember about women and heartattacks, is breathlessness! The kind you get when really working hard in a race, except you get it for no apparant reason! It's one of the most serious symptoms in women!

Eva! No need to leave! We love babies, We love Wishers, we adore you. Like Margie said, there is no real competition. It's just a total of what we all do. Your time and miles is just between you and me. And as soon as I total it up, it's just you! Stay with us. :flower3:

Scott and Margie, I am using a whole, whopping, get ready....wait for it....4 lb dumbbells! And I have been doing curls and wrist curls with them for a while now, months in fact. I only added simple chest flys and tricep kickbacks to what I was already doing.

yesterday got away from me again (and we had snow again, so strange, it isn't suppose to snow down here, I'm on the border between NC and SC-crazy weather), but today is a jogging day, so I'll go put some time in on the TM when DH comes home.

on a happy note for me, I'm just getting to know you all and vice versa, but we found a preschool for my oldest son, so we are excited about that (and I should have more energy at the end of a day, lol).

I have just realized that I have been derelict in my duties! I am asking that everyone introduce themselves so our new teammates can get to know us and we; them!

I am Connie! :sail: Captain of this ship! I am 52 years old and did my first race at the tender age of 49 years and 9 months. I had to get one in before 50! And I just made it. I am married and have two grown and married children, four grandchildren. I also have two 20 gallon aquariums and 2 cats, who have amazing personalities and love to hang over my left shoulder. Which by the way, was the one I had rotator cuff surgery on in September. I thought that the cats might move out there for awhile, but they just waited patiently and kept making me feed them until they could sit on that shouler, again.

My DH and I live in Texas. Not the pretty Texas with seashores or the one with trees. I live on the plains in the Panhandle. The last fight between the cowboys and indians happened about 8 miles from my house. Adobe Walls, mentioned in Lonesome Dove, is just 48 miles from here. Palo Duro CAnyon is about 115 miles from my house. A nearby, town is named Mobeetie. It was one of the last places where buffalo hides were used like money and for money and earned money. The buffalo hunters asked the indians what the name of that area was and the indians replied Mobeetie. ANd thus it was named. Later, much later it was discerned that Mobeetie meant buffalo dung. :lmao:

My DD32, SIL39, DH54, and I will be doing a marathon relay in April. I mentioned to them, (separately) that I would love to do the first leg of the marathon relay and then be able to complete the half, too. My DD and SIL made the mistake of saying that they thought they could do a relay, it would be kinda fun and then my DH chimed in with the idea that he could probably handle 3.1 miles, too! I had a team. I registered them before they could back out and now....they are talking about making shirts that say, My mother/mother-in-law/wife made me do this for themselves and one for me that says, Yea, I did! Our team is named ....wait for it....Sweet Rolls! ::yes::

So, who are you???

JPFamilyMom
02-05-2009, 06:50 PM
ok, so I didn't make it out for my jog tonight :sad2: which means I'll be working out on Sunday :confused3 which I don't like to do. We try not to do anything on Sundays, that is our rest day, from everything, and it is our family day, plus we go to Church.

Ok, so a little bit about me.... hmmmm.....

I'm a 30 yo (soon to be 31 yo) stay at home Mom to two darling little Disney boys. My oldest son will be 4 in March, and the baby turns 1 in 14 days:scared1: . Where did the time go? We are a fabulously nerdy family in that all our names begin with J and I share a birthday month with our first son, and my husband shares a birthday month with the baby son.

I've never been a runner until recently. I danced since I was two, and was even a dance major in college until a car accident messed up my back. Hit and run by a drunk driver:sad2: So now married and with two kids I felt like I needed to be active doing something again. When I discovered the W.I.S.H. board I decided this was for me since I have already been taking the boys on long walks...oh and that it was something happening at my favorite place in the whole wide world

My oldest son was recently diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder, so that has kept me on my toes and it has been a learning experience for our whole family. He is an extremely energetic, fun spirited child. He also plans to do the kids races when we go for my first 1/2 marathon.

My husband is a teacher, we met in Las Vegas when we were both substitute teaching for the school district. Oh and he helped me flunk an English class he was tutoring me in, :rotfl2: -so then I had to marry him:confused3 One day I will return to school to finish my degree in education, and I had originally planned on getting a masters to be a guidance counselor, but now I'm leaning toward doing something with working with exceptional children programs. Well that is about all about me. Can't wait to get to know all of you.

Thanks everyone for the PD for my knee - which survived another 6 mile walk, but it was a very slow walk. Today we went out to the bike path - I have to drive to it, so we don't go too often - and the dogs and I loved the change of scenery! Tonight, the knee actually feels a little better, I was on my feet all day cleaning house and watering trees. (We have to water trees here in the winter - with no snow covering the ground and the wind, they dry out quickly.)

Eva - I am sure I speak for all when I say that we are all looking forward to following your pregnancy, and will want to be amoung the first to congratulate you when your child arrives!!! You will still want to do some exercise, so you will still be contributing to the team!

JPFamilyMom - your picture in your signature of the chocolates - that was me, we got a Valentine package from Scott's mom. And I was doing so good about my eating!!!

OK - about me - I am 58 years old, Scott H is my DH. We have been married 29 years this July, no (human) children ( by our choise), but we count our 2 malamutes as our children. I have been retired for 2 years, but I am shortly going back to work, at this point it is a temp job, but I am also looking for something part time that will allow me to take all the vacations that we have planned. I walk the Disney races that I have done, I have been walking for years, I have always had dogs that needed exercise, but have been racing for 2+ years. We have been doing the Disneyland 1/2, the Tower of Terror 13K, and the WDW marathon weekend for the last 2 years. We do some 5K and 10K races locally. I also got a masters degree in education to become a guidance counselor, but never worked in that field. I ended up spending 25 years as a police dispatcher - some will say that I really did end up working in the counseling field:rotfl2: .

Time for bed, have a good evening, what is left of it!

Hi everyone!

Margie, I hope your doing okay!

okay, who am I?

I'm Jennifer. I'm 21 and currently a college senior in Massachusetts. Next year, I'll be an elementary school teacher. I am an only child and originally from Alabama. I've been running for about 9 months now and shaved 7-8 minutes off my 5k time. Before running I did gymnastics until age 15 and competitive swimming until 14 and then recreational off and on after. My goal for next year is to run the Disney marathon and possibly qualify for Boston.

So today, I did 5k on the track at gym in 25 min.

I'm Dave and I'm the only normal one on here. It is normal to think your a stuffed panda right?

I'm 57 and live in Southern Kentucky, where it used to be nice but this year is really cold. I'm 60 miles north of Nashville in a little town of Bowling Green. I'm retired from the Air Force and married to Erica, who is an ICU/CCU nurse. I still work also, optician and evening manager of a LensCrafters store.

I have been involved with exercise and training for about 35 years but about 4 years ago I switched from running to Race walking. I train a couple of hours a day with walking, strength training, stretching and pool work.

My last assignment in the Air Force was First Sgt of the Hospital at Nellis AFB in Las Vegas. I have been here in Kentucky for 15 years now.

I have met several of the folks on the team, I had the pleasure of walking the Disney Marathon last month with Lynn and got to party with Margie, Denise, and Scott. I had he pleasure of meeting Connie and Kathy at the ToT year before last.

I have a lot of goals so that keeps me motivated to stay in training.

Hello Visiting Bubba, thanks for dropping by.

The weather is a standable 27 degrees so I'm headed out to meet some walkers for a group 5 miler. We usually average about 12 mpm for our morning walks.

My brother is currently in the Air Force and stationed where else but Nellis AFB. Couple hours of training a day :faint: how do you do it?

bubba73- would love a friend going through the same thing. We are still learning about everything, they said our son wasn't Aspergers mostly cause of his language delay. But I'm still learning all about the spectrum which covers way too much. Overwhelmed with info right now.

Wow I can finally log on. For some reason, I tried this morning before work and then again at work and no deal! So I wrote up my bio and emailed it to home so I could cut and paste.

Denise

Married almost 35 years to DH Mark.

1 Daughter – Miranda- SIL Matt and first GC a/k/a Squirt due in late August

1 Son – Nicholas and his DGF – Hope.

Started walking in 1990 after a fight with hubby. It was the middle of January – so you know I was pretty ticked to go out in sub-zero. Next day didn’t feel much better towards him so I went out for a walk again- as after I walked I did feel better about myself. Eventually, he was in my good graces again and by the time summer rolled around I had lost 35 pounds and looked pretty darn good.

Have walked on and off since then. In January 2007, Nick and Hope were out to dinner with Mark and I. He had remembered me mentioning the WDW ½ marathon and thought it would make a good mom/son trip since dad/daughter had done a few trips to WDW for Halloween/F&W. I said OK. Within a couple of days, the whole family decided to join us and we trained quite a bit throughout the year in fear of being swept. In 2008 we did our first ½ in Disney. It was hard, but crossing that finish line, getting the medal is the best feeling in the world. Shortly after returning last year Nick emailed me and asked to do it again. Hence the WDW ½ x 2. It was a lot of fun, I trained harder than ever and in the end it paid off. I had very little soreness after the race and felt I could have walked another ½ the next week.

In my professional life I am an insurance agency receptionist. In my home life and my true passion is making Quilts. I also help DH in his business with the books. Does not leave me a whole lot of time to do anything but they say unless you have a lot on your plate, nothing seems to get done. You get that “round-to-it” attitude.

Favorite time to work out – 4:50 am Spring through Fall. Winter sucks!

Favorite quote – There is no such thing as last. In every race, there is an invisible crowd of thousands behind you who didn’t have the guts to start.

Set goals in your life. No matter what you do, paperwork, sewing, exercising. Unless you have something to reach for, why would you stretch yourself. You’ll be proud of what you can accomplish.

Mark my DH is the "official" miles/min sub. If your injured, need a break, we log his miles as yours. He's never on the boards but he humors me.

Anyway, I met my waking group this morning and we did about 3.5 to 4 miles at about a 12 min per mile pace. We don't time the walks just go and the talking makes the miles fly by, even the cold was standable today.

Connie total for the week is 18.5 miles and 10 hours. I'll do a workout tomorrow and then wrap it up for the week. This was my first real week back to training and it felt pretty good except a little tad of soreness.

Have a restful weekend y'all.

Hi everyone!

Here's some information about me. I have began walking with my neighbors sometime around 1988, but never really did anything competitively. Then about this time last year, a woman who is 20 years younger than me, (I'm 52) approached me about doing the half marathon at WDW with her. Let me just say that it soon became obvious that if I didn't run at least part of the race, I was bound to get swept! So, even though I've never been a runner, I became a "wogger." Mostly I walked, but occasionally I jogged. I did finish the half in just under the required 3:30 time, so I was happy. Plus, I finished ahead of the younger woman who approached me in the first place! My goal is to improve my time for next year.

DH admitted to being a bit jealous and has signed up to do it with me. We have 3 DD's, all grown, one grand daughter, and another grand child on the way in Sept.

My totals for this week are: 9.15 miles, total time--2:27.43
Also worked with weights for a total of 60 minutes.

Lynn G

Connie - I sent you a PM with our totals.

Didn't do much today, the leg weights I was supposed to do yesterday, and a short walk with the dogs while it was still nice, then it clouded up and got colder. It is supposed to snow tonight, we will see if it does.

Hi, everyone! I'm a new member here! My name is Nicole and I'm from Illinois. I'm about an hour from Springfield, IL and an hour from St. Louis, MO. I'm 26 years old. My DH is Paul (he has no interest in this sorta thing). I have a 2 year old son, Landon. He's part of my motivation. I was very active in High School, but once I was in college -- I was not. My cousin passed away last week from a heart attack, he was only 31. I want to be here for Landon. DH and I have been working out and eating healthier since December, so I figured the 2010 Half Marathon would be a good goal to set.

We are a very Disney Obsessed family. DS's nursery was done in a Walt Disney World theme. My MIL and DH painted murals of the four parks on his walls. His new big boy room is a Wilderness Lodge theme. It's still a bit of a work in progress though. We took DS on his first trip to Disney World last September. At the same time, we bit the bullet and became DVC members. This May will be our first trip "home."

We have our room booked for January already. We will be celebrating our 5 year anniversary, DH's birthday, and me finishing the half marathon (I hope).

I'm looking forward to getting to know everyone. Please forgive me in advance for any silly newbie-like questions!

Hi everyone! It's been a really "warm" weekend here in Toronto and I've been outside enjoying the nice weather! Here's hoping that spring is around the corner!

So here's a little bit about me... My name is Vicky and I live in Toronto, Canada. I work for a financial institution doing admin stuff. It's not really what I want to be doing but it pays the bills and gets me to Disney so it's what I'm sticking with for now. When I'm not working, I love photography and film! My DF is a writer/director and so far we've managed to finish and sell one movie. Yay!

I started running last January because I wanted to lose weight ... and because I had a treadmill and running shoes. So being somewhat lazy, I figured it was the easiest (and cheapest way to go). Well, one year, several pairs of running shoes, and many chiropractic and physio sessions later ... apparently it wasn't the most cheapest way to lose weight  But I've had so much fun meeting people and learning how hard I can push myself, I wouldn't trade it for anything! In 2010, I'll be doing the 1/2 at Disney again and hopefully the full in 2011. Right now, I'm taking a small break from running - I'm still working out and walking but I wanted to give myself a chance to rest before I start training again for a 1/2 in May.

Anything else you want to know just ask! :goodvibes

Good Morning all. Just stopped in for a sec, I'm new to the team and 2010 will be my first Marathon. I turn the big 50 in Oct. so for my mid-life crisis as well as staying fit I decided to do the Disney Marathon, it cheaper than a red sports car.
Ran the TOT in 07' before that a couple of 5k's including the 2002 9/11 Pentagon. Started training last month after registering ( had to commit right?). Starting slow mostly for time not distance, indoors 'till the ice melts.

I figure if you gotta do a Marathon Why Not Disney. :woohoo:

Morning team! It was a sleepless night in Toronto. Ever have one of those nights where no matter what you do, you just can't get to sleep. That was me yesterday... I have my PT session night so hopefully I won't be too tired. I'm looking forward to getting in a good workout!

Jack - :welcome: I like your thinking about running and Disney. Might as well get in a bit of a vacation too!

Lynn - We're expecting warm temperatures here this week! I'm hoping to get in walking miles.

Jenn - What kind of dance class are you taking?

JPFamilyMom - WTG on the weekend miles!

That's it for me! Have a great day everyone!!

Good Evening All!

Welcome to the Newbies!

Thought I had posted earlier today from work but nothing is showing.

Very busy day at work & the weekend was just as busy.

Funny how some days you have great runs & others stink. Sat. was a struggle & tonight I sailed through a great 5k. Ran outside & it wasn't too bad for Feb. We are expecting (freezing) rain tomorrow.

Trying out a new class at the gym tomorrow, CardioCombat. I'll let you know how it goes.

Since everyone is sharing. I'm a 40 something wife & mother to a wonderful DH, DD & choc. lab (who's my big baby). We live east of Toronto & I travel by train into the city for work as a designer. I've been running for the past 3 years. Completing 20+ races including 2 fulls & many 1/2 marathons along the way.
This year's goal is the Goofy. With a stretch goal of hoping to qualify for Boston within the next year or 2.

Hope everyone is on the mend & feeling better.

Time for bed. 4:45am comes early.......Sue

Vicky, It's a Musical Theatre Dance Class so mostly jazz with some tap and of course ballet. I used to be a right proper tapper (even went to the Rockette summer intensive when I was 13) but quit junior year of high school so I'm trying to get back into it with this.

I also do ballet on Wednesday nights.

No running today, just 90 minutes of dance and 60 minutes of strength training.

Welcome Jack and Nichole!

Jack that's totally awesome about Quantico and the Pentagon!

Hi, everyone!
At work we are doing the Biggest Loser. We are in Week 4 and I'm in 2nd place! :woohoo: Only 8 more weeks to go!

I've been working really hard. I've been doing the eliptical almost every night for at least 20 minutes. I think I'm going to go see about joining the Y on Wednesday when I'm off work. It's a drive from my house (about 35 minutes) but I think it will be nice to work out there. I'm going to get new running shoes on Saturday. My current ones are really hurting feet.

I've been reading "Marathoning for Mortals" since Saturday.

Well I better head to bed. Good night!

Good morning team.

I have to work day shift today for training on new ways to serve our patients and make sure we get our share of the health care dollar. So no workout today.

Nichole, sounds like you are well on your way. I have a blog I do with tips and encouragement for your journey if you want to check it out. We are all on the same trail and it often helps to follow a path that someone else has already blazed.

Have a super day y'all.

Good Morning Team!

Nicole - congrats on being second in your Biggest Loser contest - pixiedust: that you will end up first!

Vicki - yes, I have had those nights also, at least, for me, I would sleep well the next night!

Yesterday I did get in a leg routine, I was not motivated, so did not add the upper body routine that I was planning on. Today is colder (high 39 degrees), but the wind has calmed down significantly (yesterday it was blowing 30-40mph all day!), so the dogs and I will get out for a walk today!

Have a great day everyone!

Good morning Hakuuuuuuuna Mataaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaata!!!

Welcome Jack and Nicole! You are on the roster!!! :cool1:

Yesterday was an amazing day! I decided on a whim, after talking to Margie, that I should give the bike a try. As some of you remember, my hip always hurt and locked down when I got on a bike. Yesterday, I spent 30 minutes on the recumbent bike and did 9 miles. I concentrated on keeping my hip in line and didn't even have any pain at the end of the 30 minutes. With some concentration and diligence, I may once again be able to enjoy bike riding again.

Today I have a hour walk! Just 4 weeks until the Little Rock Half!

Morning team! Even though it's warming up in Toronto, being the klutz that I am... I managed to slip on probabably the only piece of ice left in the city. I managed not to bump my left knee but still knocked my chin on the cement. Then I missed the bus - doh! What a morning! Guess I'd better go and get my lottery ticket!

Nicole- Congrats on your BL competition! I wish we could do something like that at work.

Sue - I was talking to one of the runners at my gym about the same thing. Sometimes we can knock off a 10K run like it's nothing but then when we try to run 5K, it's the toughest thing ever. The CardioCombat class sounds interesting!

Jen - The dance class sounds interesting. I have no coordination or balance so I've never tried a class.

Scott - Wow! I was going to say that sometimes I like the busy days but 26 hours is a lot. At least the week will be over before you know it.

Lynn - Got a better sleep last night but it was still too short! What kind of exercises do you do for your leg routine?

Happy Tuesday Team!

Went to cardiocombat class at the gym during lunch. Great cardio & upper body workout. It combines moves from martial arts. Like any class you can put in as much or as little effort as you want. It will take a couple of class to get all the moves (names). I was a little uncoordinated but will definitely return. It was a nice change.

Connie glad to hear you had a great workout on the bike.

Just dropping by to say hi to Hakuna Matata! Wow, it looks like you've got a lot of new players. I'm looking forward to getting to know you al! :cool1:

Jack: Welcome! FBI, huh? Very cool, very "Men in Black" and mysterious. And how do you feel about "Top Gun." It's Navy, I know, but still.... (People will tell you I connect everything up, no matter how tangentially, with movies. Don't take me too seriously. No one else does.)

Sue: CardioCombat sounds tough, dangerous, and sexy. I'm not coordinated--me and Vicky are soul sisters on that--but I'd give it a try if it came my way.

Jennifer: I didn't know you were/are a dancer. And a "right proper tapper." Love the phrase!

Nicole: Congrats on your BL challenge and 2nd place! Good job with the elliptical. I hope you get a good feel for your Y--I love my FC, as it brings variety to my (vanilla) WO life.

Scott H: Wow, 26 hours in two days! :worship: I hope you get plenty of vacation time.

Lynn: I always have to push myself to do the upper body portion of my WOs. I don't know why, but I find it hard to get motivated, too.

Connie: That's great news about the bike and lack of pain. Do you think it's the recumbent aspect?

Vicky:  for the chin. Did you buy that lottery ticket yet?

Margie: I did my MFA at Western Michigan. I remember all the hiking and biking areas.

JPFamilyMom: Congrats on your run. It sounds like C25K is working for you. I hope your DS's first day of school wasn't too traumatic, for either one of you.

To all Hakuna Matata I may have missed: :yay: Have a great week training! See you on the boards, and feel free to say hello on 'Ohana's thread.

Hello everyone!

I have managed to read a lot of posts and see we have new team members! Hello to everyone!!:yay:

Mark and I did 1/2 an hour tonight. Me on the ellip and he on the TM. I have things to do every night this week so my training is suffering.

I'm busy doing other things and tonight we are watching the dog show. I LOVE dogs but have 3 cats and no patience to care for a dog. As my MIL said there are no bad dogs only bad owners, I have realized that I would not be a good owner, cats are my speed. They take care of themselves, have a private bath area when it's raining and can be left for a couple of days with plenty of water and food. I have taken care of dogs for people and find that is ok for me. They appreciate the long walks I take them on. Seems the eat better and sleep better when their owners are way :confused3 I make sure to introduce myself to all the dogs on my walks and find their names. They usually stop barking when I call their name and tell them to be quiet.

Well I'll update my siggie but sign off for now.

Hi, the FBI National Academy is to Police; what Top Gun is to Navy Pilots.http://www.fbi.gov/hq/td/academy/na/na.htm

Only 1/2 of 1% of all cops from around the world get invited to attend , it's really cool. Quite a time I must say. What really impressed me the most was the caliber of cops I was with. That is where I started running again.
This board bunch seems like a bunch of great people who are dedicated to helping other members; again very cool. :woohoo:

Holy Mackerel! I need some time to catch up on these posts!

So I decided that I would buckle down today and tally my miles and minutes for Capt Connie so I went to the spreadsheet to see where I left off and I don't see anything past December. So did we get a new spreadsheet for January?

My big news for the week....Jordan MIGHT join the rec center with me!!! :cool1:

Dave - I'm a sucker for puppies and would bring home one a week if I knew Jordan could handle it. My dream job is to run a puppy rescue...and Erica could work with me!!! We will be super sneaky and go in on covert ops to steal the puppy mill dogs from the Amish people. It's risky, but somebody has to do it!!! Watch 101 Dalmatians...you'll get in the spirit! pluto:

Denise - That is a great idea about learning the dogs actual names. I try "buddy" or "good boy/girl" and sometimes that works, but I know how mine acts and it's the name that calms him every time. I need to start that pronto!

Vivky - Sorry about your fall..you are alot like me in how you handle mishaps. Gotta stay positive right? Life wouldn't be fun otherwise!!

OK...running out of time....

Good morning Hakuna Matata!

Eva, we are doing the Miles and minutes game on a monthly basis and we aren't using the Google spreadsheet. If you send me your data, I will put it in a spreadsheet I am keeping and then post the total team miles and minutes at the top of the new monthly thread. You can keep your own personal time in your signature if you want. I can tell you that the spreadsheet and getting everything in became a total and complete headache! But it can easily be updated all month long.

Yesterday I had the taxes done. With a business and a farm, I wouldn't touch those forms with a 10 foot pole! That's what we have accountants for!

Got short TM workout today. Can't wait. I have noticed since my recovery that I don't sleep well unless I get the workouts in!

Good Morning Team!

Dave – I start training for the census job on the 26th, but I have also gotten a call from AAA and had one interview with them, I still have to interview with the district manager, but if I get offered that job, I will take it and give up the census job. The AAA job is 20 hours a week, permanent job, and it sounds like they will allow me to take my vacations. They said that time without pay could be taken if you have used up all your vacation time. I did not expect to get any vacation time in a part time job! The AAA job sounds like a really fun job, so I will see if they offer it to me.

Vicki – The leg exercises I do are to strengthen mostly the quads to help my knees, I do leg raises with ankle weights, partial leg extensions on the bowflex, hamstring curl on bowflex, single leg pushes on bowflex, straight leg kicks using theraband, walking lunges, and some IT band stretches. That is a quick rundown, I try to add some Pilates exercises for core to the mix if I am not going to do a Pilates tape. Hope you have a better day today!

Connie – way to go on the bike!

Scott and I watched the dog show last night, I had taped the night before, so we watched it all last night. I was really excited that the Malamute came in 3rd in the Working Class – malamutes usually don’t do that well!

I did get in a good 6 mile walk yesterday, still going really slowly, my knee is bothering me enough that it makes fast walking very difficult, and I am trying really hard to not favor that leg. My knee does feel better after the walks and the weight routines, so I think they are helping, it just doesn’t feel like it at the time.

Have a great day everyone!

I'm in trouble with the skirt nation over on the DisneyRunning, they didn't like the news that the USATF was banning skirts from USATF sponsored events. I came over here to hide.

I had an ok but kinda blah workout this morning 4 miles on the treadmill and a half mile of sprints in the pool, never did get into it. I took a rest day yesterday to.

Connie total so far thisd week is 7.5 miles and 3.5 hours.

Hi everyone! It's another warm day here but rainy! Still, I'd take the rain over the snow.

Dave - I didn't know about the ban on running skirts. Bummer... I love running skirts too :( I'll have to head over to DR to read more about it. And why are you in trouble - not a fan of skirts?

Eva - I always say you can't let the little things ruin your day. Although some days it's easier said than done ;) And yes, I have major Disney withdrawal! I'm already thinking about going for my birthday in October. But then I'm not really sure how that will work if I'm going in January. I need a better paying job!

Denise - Forgot about the Westminster Dog Show. I'll have to check and see if there are any re-runs this weekend! I'm more of a dog person myself even though I don't have any pets right now. I haven't met a cat that likes me yet.

Connie - I hear ya on the business taxes. They're complicated! DF and I tried to do them ourselves one year and it was a mess. We ended up giving it to an accountant as well.

Lynn - No slips or falls today, so it's been a great day so far :) Your leg exercises sound a lot like what my PT has me doing. How's your knee doing?

JPFamilyMom - How was your DS's first day of school?

Sue - CardioCombat sounds fun! How do you like working out at lunch? Do you find it very rushed?

Debra - That's me. Noooo coordination whatsoever and about as graceful as an elephant!

Good Morning Everyone.

Wow I have been away from the boards. So much going on! Well believe it or not here in New Hampshire yesterday we were able to have lunch outside on our picnic table! One of my co-workers took a shovel and heaved the snow off and around it and moved it to the parking lot. It was 60 out! All I wanted to to was run home and change to walk. I called DH Mark and said - no working late, were going out tonight. Wanted to do 5 miles but only did 3.5 because it was so dark and we almost got killed a couple of times by cars. The sidewalks are snow covered so we have to walk in the street. The streets are so narrow because of the snowbanks- which made it quite dangerous. We had to run into a snowbank at one point to avoid being hit. He was a little ticked at that but people just don't care. If we had been a parked car at that point, they would have smashed it to bits. Here in NH it is not a law to have car insurance and those that don't have it seem to be the worst drivers!

It sure was good to get out. I guess I was starting to feel a bit glum with the snow, curtains drawn to keep the cold out. It is the worst kind of cabin fever. Getting out was just the medicine I needed. I was so excited and walking so fast Mark was having a hard time keeping up. But we both felt good after that and I didn't have to listen to him screaming at the TV during the evening news.:scared1:

I hope all is well with the team and will check in more often. Been busy at work and home which is good but Spring is around the corner I can feel it and smell the fresh air too.

Have a great day - it will rain here today but at least it's not snow!

Good Morning Team!

Colder here today, high will be about 36 degrees, we are expecting snow tonight, and for the next 3 days! Will have to get the dogs out for a really good walk today as it may not be condusive for walking the next couple of days.

Scott is not traveling, but yesterday he went into work at 6am, and came home at 7pm for dinner, then went back for another hour, getting home finally a little after 9pm. This was after working long hours on Monday and Tues.

Knee is slowly getting better I think, it will feel OK for a day, then really hurt the next, so sometimes it is hard to tell. Yesterday's 3 mile walk was faster than I have done for awhile, but still not racing speed. The exercises I do were mostly given to me by a Physical Therapist, and some are from Lisa (princessrunner) - she gave me some to do before I went to the PT, and I continue doing some of hers also.

Have a great day everyone!

Good Morning Team!

Even though we have had rain for the past couple of days. We still have too much snow left.
Connie, Send a little spring up our way. Seeing birds & flowers would be very uplifting.

Yesterday I did a cardiopump class at the gym. It's a free-weight class using bar & plates. It's almost the end of week 2 at the new gym. First day gave me a bad impression but I must say I've changed my mind completely. The classes are great & a nice change of pace. Tomorrow I have my assessment for setting personal fitness goals, measurements for BMI & Body Fat etc.

Vicky working out at lunch is a real plus. I'm at the Goodlife at TEC.
Could do with a little rehab. but not too bad. It takes me 5 mins. to get there. The main reason I joined was to get in more strength/ cross training. I'm really enjoying the classes. If I needed to use the treadmills it might be a little more difficult. Not a lot of machines. It has freed up my evenings. I almost feel guilty not doing anything when I get home from work.

Denise I hear you about the cars. I've had some very close calls & I'm always watching esp. at intersections. Even though the clothing I wear has lots of reflective areas I think drivers come close on purpose.

Running tonight outside if the rain has stopped but we are expecting high winds.

Have a great day.....It's Friday tomorrow & we're off on Monday for a long weekend. :yay: Sue

Good morning team.

I met my walking group for a wonderful 6 miler this morning. Temp was low 40s and sunny, the wind is gone so it was very pleasent.

Everyone have an awesome day I'm off to work.

We have the cutest princesses on the WISH team but don't tell the other teams it will give them a complex.:)

Good evening everyone!

I went for a four mile run in 32 minutes and an hour long pilates class. I'm starting to get my speed and strength back after being lazy/sick in January.

Also, no one from the team is doing the Boston Marathon are they? I'm going with some friends as volunteers at the pasta party (and of course part of the infamous Wellesley Scream tunnel).

Hi TEAM! :wave2:

We are 36 degrees, damp with high winds, so it feels so much colder.
Gym this morning -

Vicky- it was 61 degrees Tuesday when I was able to walk outside :goodvibes

I registered for the Martian Marathon last night. Anyone else going? Also is anyone familiar with the hotels in that area? The Host hotel is higher than WDW!

Lynn-I did not realize you were still having a problem with your knees. I am so sorry - pixiedust: pixiedust:

Miranda and I went out tonight but for only a couple of miles. It was overcast so it seemed dark so much earlier. We do wear our reflective vests and last year we received flashing lights as thank you after the CIGNA road race. Mark wears his on his back and I wear mine on the front so we're flashing coming and going. I also have a head lamp that I wear around my neck with the light pointing down towards the street so we can be seen from far.

We did alter our route so we're on wider streets with less traffic. Tonight I'm very tired. 3 days of workout, a late night last night makes me pooped. Plan on being in bed early.

It took all I had to make dinner, and to Mark's payroll taxes on line. Well, off to the chair in the living room to crash.

Take care

Good Evening Team!

Yes, I am still having problems with my knees - I got them into shape for the marathon, they were fine for that and for the week we spend running around WDW afterwards, but after a day traveling home, and a day just trying to get things together, one started to hurt again, I am again religiously doing my leg routine, and walking, as the exercise seems to help, and it is not as bad as it was when I first got home, but it still hurts too much to walk comfortably.

I did get in 6 miles today, again slowly, the dogs were really happy! It is supposed to snow tonight, so we will see how that effects our walks for the next few days.

Scott actually made it home by 5:30 today, but he is beat, I think he is now sleeping in his chair in front of the TV - his favorite place to sleep!

Have a great evening everyone!

I sleep GREAT on nights that I run (well better than normal, I still have two kids waking me up all night). Anyone else like that? And fast, I fall asleep very quickly where normally I toss and turn.

Last night I did my walk/jog routine from the C25K again- so it was 27 minutes and 1.96 miles.

There is a marathon not too far from me this weekend, so today we are going to check out the expo. There aren't any running stores near where I live, so I'm hoping to get some good information.

Everyone have a great weekend, I'll be attempting some cross training tonight, maybe a walk with my boys, then another 27 minute walk/jog routine tomorrow. Anyone doing a race this weekend?

I find that I'm tired and sleep well after a walk. BUT if I use my IPOD to walk with I have "ear worms". Not what you would think but the songs continue to play in my head and wake me up. I thought I was losing my mind but a friend told me about it. But waking up to Van Halen or Queen isn't too bad:hippie:

Good morning everyone!

DH and I joined the Y last night. So, I just did the TM. I managed 1.5 miles in 20 minutes. But my legs were hurting afterward. I've had knee surgeries and I have screws in my left knee, so I think I'm going to have to go slowly to get started. We plan on going to the Y on Mondays, Wednesdays and Thursdays. We are going this Monday to have a "training" session, where we basically learn what all the equipment is for.

Now, I have to get ready for work :( I work at a bank on the lending side, so right now we are CRAZY busy!

I hope everyone has a great Friday the 13th!

Good morning, TEAM!

Denise, :confused3 Who knew it was called ear worms! I thought it was Stupid Song Syndrome! :rotfl: I used to use my Ipod Shuffle, but I don't usually bother anymore. It's so much nicer to go for a nice walk and not have to listen to society!

Nicole! Congratulations on the Y membership! Do take it slowly! Please dont' add injury to injury! You will work up to it! :cheer2: I am thoroughly impressed that you are giving it a serious go, as it is!

Jessica! I sleep better when I workout. I think I am going to add a short and sweet workout of some kind to my rest days.

Vicky, there are some Wishers who will be at the Boston! Put out a general thread you will find them!

Margie! I hope that stinking wind stops!!!

Sue! No flowers, yet! And the birds wintered over, I didn't want them to be hungry. But I see a little green here and a little green there.....I figure this will be the year the lilacs get their little blooms froze off, though.

I did a 30 minute cross training session yesterday. I am about to head out for 6 mile walk. It's 43 degrees. No wind. Gotta do it before all that starts!

Scott get some rest! See y'all! :flower3:

Connie - I hear ya about getting out before wind starts:lmao:

I have been feeding birds also, every morning I watch the sparrows and finches come to the bird feeder, which is right outside the window next to the computer!

Snowing here today, high of 26 and wind at 5-10 for the whole day! I think I will try to get a short walk in with the dogs, but today is really weight routine day.

Hi everyone!

I worked with the trainer at the gym this morning and decided to stay and take her aerobics class afterwards. It's called "Senior Aerobics", so I figured "How bad can it be?" Well, I didn't bring my knee straps with me and had to quit the running portion halfway thru and just walk because my knees were hurting! Not to mention that pesky hamstring that has been bothering me since the half. (Yes, I stretched and took time off, but it's still giving me trouble.)

Anyway, the rest of the day should be an easy one. DH and I are going to our Sweetheart Banquet at church tonight.

Stay warm!

Good morning guys.

I went to the gym with plans of a pool workout and every lane was filled with people strolling slowly and looked to be there for a while. So I did a pretty decent 45 min of calistetics and yoga. Legs feel good after that.

I'm not a great chair sleeper but have been known to nap for a few minutes. We are very into going to bed for afternoon naps though. Especially after an LSD. Naps are better when you snuggle.

For those with knee issues, yes go slow and easy. Make sure you warm up well before any exercise routine even walking. A lot of people think walking is warming up and that's true if you start slowly but if you take off to fast walking without warm up you can injure something. Shin pain is a good indication you didn't warm up enough.

Have a great Friday the 13th, that was the day Erica and I got married on.

Happy Friday the 13th everyone! The weather here has cooled down ... good for snuggling on Valentine's as Dave would say :) We have a long weekend here so I'm looking forward to the extra day off!

Went to the gym last night and worked out with my PT. He changed up the routine a little bit since I told him I wanted to lose weight before I started running again in a couple of weeks. Lots of burpies, lunges with weights and planks with weights. Tough but I felt really good afterwards!

Dave - Lots of chair sleepers here... I have caught lots of people napping in their cubicles :) Makes me think there should be a nap room of some sort.

Lynn - I know what you mean about knee pain and travelling. The flight from Toronto to Orlando was about 3 hours (since we had to line up for de-icing). I didn't think I'd have a problem sitting for that long but I was really stiff and sore after getting off the plane.

Jen - Smileyk8 (Kate) from the UK is doing Boston. She's over on Walt's Warriors.

Connie - Hope your 6 miler wasn't too windy. Is it sunny where you are?

Nicole - Good for you and DH on joining the Y! Let us know how the training session goes.

JPFamilyMom - No Valentine's Day races in Toronto that I know of. I will get out and walk regardless since it will be sunny.

Denise - Hadn't heard of ear worms before! That's too funny but I know that annoying feeling when a song keeps replaying over and over...

Margie - Really cute theme for the Martian marathon! Too bad about the hotel prices :(

Sue - I went a couple times to that location when it was a Bally's. I'd love to find a yoga class during the lunch hour downtown. Everything in the financial district is so expensive... :( I thought about running the stairs in my building but I wouldn't have anywhere to shower afterwards.

Have a great weekend everyone!!

Happy Friday Afternoon Team!

Did 5 on the treadmill last night because it was raining. Today is sunny but colder with nice weather expected for the weekend. Hoping to get in a couple of good road runs & a pilates class.

Went to the gym at lunch for my "assessment". What a joke. I could tell he really enjoyed is job.;) He asked about previous/ current exercise & what my fitness goals were. Told him I was doing a full marathon at the end of Sept. His recommendation was cardio for 20 mins. 2x as week & weights 3x - every 4 weeks cut back on the # of reps. Don't run too much he says.
How is running for 20 mins. going to get me through 26.2 miles?
It was all about getting a personal trainer & without one I wouldn't be able to achieve my goal(s).

Nicole, Hope you & DH enjoy your Y membership.

Vicky, Have a great long weekend. I'm enjoying 3 days of training, cleaning, laundry, grocery shopping etc......There's always something to do around the house.

Any exciting plans for Valentine's Day? DH is a great cook. Actually he does the majority of it. We're having a nice steak dinner with grilled veggies, wine, etc.

DH is famous for his chair naps. I prefer the sofa myself.

Have a great weekend. Enjoy your training.....Sue

I did get a reasonable room booked for the Martian Marathon today. It seems that they are having the Big Final 4 in downtown Detroit (Sports Fan that I am not I think that its Basketball) that same weekend. Rooms are hard to find and they are more expensive! :confused3

Happy Valentines Day everyone! I think it should be renamed Tasty Food and Sweets day :) DF made me a Kona Cafe breakfast this morning. He made the macadamia nut pancakes with the macadamia nut butter and pineapple sauce! Yum!! He also bought a Red Velvet cake which is my favourite. :headache: I think I will be freezing a lot of it. Can you freeze cake or will it get freezer burn? I guess that means more cardio for me this weekend since I was suppose to be eating clean

Margie - Glad you were able to get a good price on a hotel room! I Googled the Big Final Four and I still couldn't figure out what it's about :confused3

Sue - Sounds like a yummy Valentine's Day dinner!! DF does most of the cooking for us. I usually make the salads or get take out. I'm not very skilled in the kitchen. Btw, I love your training "assessment". :)

Lynn - Hope you don't get too much snow!

Well I missed yesterday to say Hello to all my friends here and Happy Valentines day.

Mark and I spent the day together. He made me a design wall. Not exciting or typical diamonds, flowers etc but just what I wanted. We went to Lowe's for my V-day present and purchased some rigid insulation foam. He put it together with caulking and bent some metal for a frame and today we'll cover it with batting so I can put up quilt blocks and design my quilts without having them on the floor. I know to some not very romantic but a gift that I truly wanted and will last forever. In turn I made a cake with strawberries, cream, tuxedo strawberries, steak, salad and scallop potatoes for dinner along with some sparkling wine.

We didn't walk but may head out today, weather has been better than normal with the warm sun helping us at least feel warmer if no temp wise.

Dave, I did start the process of applying for a passport and was going to get the card too but alas we didn't have enough money to go on the planned trip so I never got one. It's on the list of things to do this year.

Bunnyfoo, I think you can freeze cake but your right about freezer burn, it may have a bit of that. I know brides freeze cake but after a year it's not that great. I don't think Miranda froze any of her wedding cake.

Well my coffee should be ready so I'm off. Enjoy your day, I too have a 3 day weekend so it'll be great.

Good morning y'all.

Erica and I got married in Okinawa Japan. I was in the USAF and since we didn't have a freezer we put the cake top in the squadron freezer. We were going to eat it on our 1 year anniv. Well buy the time that came around it had been eaten by hungry troops searching for food on a night shift.

Denise is Mark getting a laugh over this stimulas bill, it will increase the employment in one way for sure, they have to hire people that can understand it. So far as I can tell the congress and senate couldn't get through the 1000 plus pages so they just passed it to get rid of the problem to them.

I joined Face Book yesterday. That was interesting.

Nice day here today, was windy earlier, but that died down (unusual that it was windier in the morning than in the afternoon), so we took dogs for a short walk (1.23 miles). They were happy since they missed a walk yesterday. We only got an inch or so of snow yesterday, but it was ugly all day. It is now melting, there are some drifts from the wind earlier, but you can see a lot of bare ground.

Like Lynn Says,

Playing at the Adventures Club Bar and came up with these.

OK I have not named this one yet as I just concocted it: OK came up with a name Bimini Twistini - Bimini is a fovorite Dive location, would go well with a fish sandwich on Bimini Bread, conch chowder, and side of rice and peas, no problem mon, life would be good in that one particular harbor.

Bimini Twistini
2 oz Key Lime Rum
1 oz Coconut Rum
2 oz pineapple juice

Shake with Ice serve in Martini Glass with a splash of grenadine

:hippie: I have my Passport – You can get them at US Post Offices. The Passport Cards ($45 for 16 & over) are cheaper than a Passport ($100 for 16 & over) plus you have to supply two passport photos – but I think there are some limitations that apply to the card like you can only use them for land (no air travel) travel only coming back into the USA from Mexico or Canada. But you can fill out all the paper work on line, print, and save time at the Post Office. http://travel.state.gov/passport/passport_1738_2.html

It has been a long stretch of days for me. As you know Thursdays I am gone with work and school for well over 12 hours and usually get to bed around midnight. Well, Friday morning came...I got a call from my boss at 3:30am to tell me about the tragedy and she said I needed to come in and help get our volunteers off to Buffalo and help call people in for back up support here in Cleveland. So I was up and got to work in the 5:00 hour sometime. It was an emotional day and tough for us, as one of our office girls went to go stay with a family of the deceased. She has been thoroughly trained for this, but she was still a mess as she was leaving. We ran the office that day with only 2 full timers and a part timer and I worked for over 11 hours (long day for me). I had taken Valentines Day off because we were going on a road trip for Jordan's birthday, but ended up going into work for a couple of hours because of everything. Then we left around noon for Lexington for a Slipknot concert Saturday night, then visited Jordan grandparents yesterday. Drove home and hit the hay. I did manage to get 3 miles in on the hotel treadmill yesterday, but needless to say I haven't had much time for exercise in the last week. I did get to read some posts though...

Margie - Jordan and I were just talking about the Martian Half yesterday. He thinks I should register. We would probably stay somewhere on Telegraph. I know that area since I used to live off of Warren Rd. BTW...The Boneyard on Telegraph and Warren has the BEST ribs you will ever have.

Vicky - Kona Breakfast sounds great!!! I looooove that butter. I'm half tempted to just to make some of that butter and get some premade Hawaiian Rolls to eat today. YUummmmm. :thumbsup2

Dave - How cool that you guys got married in Japan. How awful though that they ate your wedding cake!! I guess you guys were understanding, but even a hungry troop should have had more manners than to eat that up! And whats this about banning running skirts?!?!?!

OK...off to pick up my mom and hit the gym. I might have a race to train for!!

Hi Eva, the thing about banning running skirts was to pick at the "Skirt Nation", over on DisneyRunning.com. They are the ruling class over there. You know how you darn princesses will just take over and make us guys walk the straight and narrow.

Yes maried in Japan on friday the 13th. We had to wedding days since the first one was rejected since I didn't have my birth cert over there with me. The church wedding was Dec 13th the official day with birth cert for proff of citizenship was the 23rd of Dec. We use the 13th as our day to remember.

Time to head off to the gym, workout and renew my membership.

Have a super morning.

:hippie: You lost me on this one? Then we are to ignore as you posted this here by mistake :confused3 banning running skirts was to pick at the "Skirt Nation",over on DisneyRunning.com.

I went to the gym this morning. Did 5-miles on the bike - an easy lower body workout; I kept the weights the same but only did 3 set of 10 reps - then 3 more miles on the bike. So I have a head start on this weeks training.

Yes love I was bored and started a rumor to pick at the skirt nation, they beat me severly and even put my panda avatar in a skirt over there.

I need to have some real nice weather to get my mojo back, I've been working out but not feeling the love.

Dave, Well, I can't wait until it's warm enough to wear my running skirts again. I think they should start making a running "kilt" for you guys than you'd understand the cult.

I did 4.25 miles in 35 minutes (it was hilly) and an hour strength training class.

Best,

Hi everyone! We've got a holiday here so I got a chance to go into the gym a lot earlier than I normally do. It's nice working out in the middle of the day. I didn't feel like I was rushed to come back home afterwards. I am back on Thursday for another training session! I also ordered my race photos today after I was sent an e-mail with a 10% code. I probably shouldn't have but I figure it might be good motivation to start working on those scrapbook pages!

Eva - Yes, the butter was yummy!! I had to stick it in the freezer after we were done breakfast. I would have gone through an entire loaf of bread otherwise! If I told my DF about the rib joint, we'd (or I'd) sign up for the Martian Half.

Lynn - I did a 3 miler around my area yesterday. I'm trying to take advantage of the nice weather too. It's suppose to snow some more later this week :(

Margie - Oh ... basketball :) I'm not into mainstream sports much. I didn't realize a Passport card was just that - a card. Sounds kind of handy - It would be easier just to stick that in your wallet when travelling.

Denise - I stuck a good portion of the cake into a ziplock bag and threw it into the freezer. Unfortunately, today is DF's grandma's birthday so there will be more cake.

Dave - Your panda avatar with a skirt is hot! :upsidedow :cutie:

Connie - How's your shoulder doing?

Have a great day everyone!!

Just realized that I haven't posted my totals for last week so here goes:

Mon-Thurs walk/ran for a total of 2:12.00, mileage unknown.

On Sat. walk/ran 5 miles; 1:07.00

Weight training: 90 minutes

Pilates: 20 minutes (sent the DVD back to Netflix; it was too easy)

Aerobics: 45 minutes

Tried to do a short walk/run today but my hamstring/hip is hurting and just couldn't run, so I just walked instead.

My motto is: Every day a new ache or pain!;)

Hi TEAM! :wave2:

Vicky – are you seriously thinking of registering for the Martian (Half) Marathon? I hope so :cheer2: And :cheer2: for Scrap Booking! I have several pages done of my WDW trip this year.

:hippie: It’s okay, but I still do not understand why you started the rumor. I am sorry that you were hurt and are still that upset with them. Just remember people say things and really do not mean to hurt your feelings. Hope that everything works out for you.

:hippie: There were 2 men at the Donald 2009 that wore kilts. There are many sources on line to purchase quality wool kilts or your just clan tartan. The Royal Stewart and Blackwatch are free tartans, which may be worn by anyone. When Hagen gets a little older I will get him the actual MacQueen Clan Kilt. I made him one last year for the Scottish Festival. It was cute, but not the real thing. I can PM you the link to the Scottish Tartan site that I use if you like.

DH and I had our orientation at the Y tonight. They showed us how to use all the machines and set us up for how many reps we should be doing. I told them my goal was the Half Marathon in January, and everyone was very helpful. I managed a mile before we got started. It took me about 14.5 minutes. I did another mile after our workout and it took me 15 minutes. So, nothing crazy impressive -- but its a start. DH and I are going to go to the Y on Mondays, Wednesdays, Thursdays and some Saturdays. Tomorrow is a rest day, so I will probably just do the eliptical for 15-25 minutes.

Is it sad that its only 9pm and I'm ready for bed? I think I had a really good workout tonight!

Good morning Team!

Another blustery day here, today. I just can't walk in 40 mph winds! And really it's not THAT the wind is blowing it is WHAT the wind is blowing. Just the other day, as I stepped out on my front porch, there were 2 dogs and 3 cats and a lawn chair that went blowing by. :lmao: Okay, not the dogs and the cats, but the lawn chair had to be gathered up and returned!

Less than a month and I will be participating in my first race in a year!!! :woohoo:

My shoulder is great. Thanks for asking vicki! I am approaching the 6 month post op magic number and things are pretty peachy. It is pretty much healed, it's just a matter of strength training now.

Walking Panda:hippie:

Yes Dave, I am just having all the fun I can stand! There is not much damage to my knee, it was diagnosed as tendonitis, so no surgery! If it doesn't feel better soon, I may go back to the Doc and see if there is anything else I can do - or go back to the PT and get the anti-inflamatory treatment I was getting earlier. I cannot remember what they called it, but it was using electrodes to push an anti-imflamatory drug into the skin. Some days are good days and some days are terrible, so it is hard to see improvement.

Margie - we had no wind here yesterday, hopefully, that is headed in your direction!

Connie - I can relate to the flying dogs and cats! There are days that the dogs and I go out, and I have seen the wind push them over - and they are good sized dogs - 75 pound malamutes! Sometimes, I am pushed over, in fact, I think they have the advantage of being lower to the ground than I am, and on 4 legs instead of 2!

Wind is supposed to pick up here later today - along with rain and snow - will need to get out this morning with the dogs.

Have a great day team!

Hit the TM and some weights this morning, started making a protien shake for breakfast rather than the grits I make at work. I did sleep well last night. Lots of changes here at my work, with a decission I will have to make here in a couple of weeks or sooner. Add to that lots of work keeps comming in. I am glad I have a job and feel for others getting laid off and having major changes.

It is breezy out this morning (20mph winds), no snow yet, and partly sunny as of now, so I will get out with the dogs and see how bad the winds really are (they seem to pick up as soon as I leave the house, then calm down again when I get home!)

You can add me to that list of wannabe scrapbookers. One of the "projects" I had in mind for this winter was to organize my scrapbooking stuff and get at least a few pages done. Between trips to visit my daughters in Denver and the Indianapolis area, all I've managed to do is heap more stuff onto the table! Of course, about this time last year when someone approached me and asked if I was a runner, my reply was "I'm a wannabe runner." I'm still not a true runner, but at least I get out there and give it a go!

I have the great 10 minute Pilate tapes, and I can do a couple of those. I need to do the Pilates stretch after my walks. I am so bad about stretching.

Margie, MaryJ, Lynn, I am afraid that I would be the kind of scrapbook person who doesn't ever quite get a round tuit. I can stick photos in a album if I can get them printed out.........

Nichole, there are lots of us on this team who are walkers! We don't run, we walk our races. It's a lot of fun at the back of the pack! :cool1: All I am trying to say is, don't hurt yourself. There is still joy in racing without running!

Lynn, you don't think weights are a rest??? I move clear up to 5 lbs yesterday. I tend to move quickly from one exercise to another so a full upper and lower body program to the point of failure only takes me 20 minutes with a warm up. THat sounds restful, don't you think?

Jessica, good luck on finishing that degree! Hope you have a great birthday bash!

Good Morning Team!

Margie - we are getting more winter type weather here also, although probably not as bad as yours - winds currently at 35-45mph (and it is morning when they are usually calmer) - high today of 36, and I think we may have already gotten there - cold front coming in at noon - and snow for tonight.

Dave - that was pretty extreme weather for you, glad to hear that you survived it!

Jennifer - lets hear it for those endorphins!

Jack - hope you had a successful trip! Let us know what the decision is!

I got out for a 3 mile walk yesterday, not quite as breezy as the day before, and an hour weight routine. Knee is a little sore today, I have upped the weight on my leg press just a little. Today the wind is blowing at 35 - 45 mph, so I do not think I will get outside with the dogs unless it calms down when the cold front hits later this afternoon. That will mean either the treadmill, or maybe an aerobics tape for a change. It is supposed to be a nice weekend, so hopefully I can get the missed milage in.

Have a great day everyone!

Hi Everyone. I have been reading every day but just not posting much. I can't log on from work so all my posts have to come from home and I'm not at the computer that much.

Have been suffering with a headache for about a week. Went for my massage last night and she said it's the worst it's been in a long time. Alas I knew I was in a foul mood for a reason! :headache: She worked hard on my arms and neck and I feel much better today. Sore but better.

Walking or not walking has not helped since I'm not getting the blood flowing in all areas including my arms and neck. So I will have to make an effort to do some TM work and Ellip to keep things limber.

This winter is getting us down and with no 1/2 to train for I just don't have the ambition. I really need to put that out of my head and work to stay Healthy, which IS the WISH motto.

Well I have my 2 hr lunch today so I'll go make a sandwich and get going. Been sewing for a bit - it eases my stress and makes me smile.

Here's hoping something you love to do comes your way this weekend and makes you smile.

Yes winter has been a drag this year. I'm ready for spring, I can only imagine how wonderful it will be to be outside in the WARM sun again.

Margie, the time in motion is what matters.

Dave:hippie:

Oh how awful, not a good way to lose weight. Hope she's right as rain soon. Seems if I remember correctly she has a Goofy to train for!

:stitch2: Monday Mixers w/ Team 'Ohana :stitch2:

I thought I'd let Hakuna Matata know that Team 'Ohana is inviting their WISH family to come visit its thread on Mondays. We thought this would be a good way for people on the teams/threads to get to know other WISHers better. Plus, 'Ohana like to think we know how to throw a party and we always like new guests! The drinks are free, if virtual, and no one will tell you when you've had enough. :upsidedow

I'll post a reminder on Monday, with a loose question/discussion topic to get the conversations going. There's no need to stick to the topic, of course, as it's really your sparking, non-alcoholic but still intoxicating presence that is requested. So, if you have a little time for socializing with your cousins, please stop by 'Ohana on Monday! :goodvibes

I'm IN, what a cool idea, can always use a laugh and a drink on Mondays (and Tuesday, and Wednesdays, and Thursdays....) :woohoo::banana: :woohoo:

Sue - I did not get the job at AAA, so I am back to the census, I start training in Colorado next Thursday, I get to drive down to Greeley Thurs, Fri, and then Mon-Thurs. After that, I guess I will know my schedule.

Dave - glad to hear that Erica is feeling better! I think I knew that, but it is still good to hear!

Denise - hope your headache is better - I used to be plagued with headaches, but never for a week at a time! Acupuncture cured my headaches, and I have not had many at all even in the last 2 years, now that I no longer live near my acupuncturist.

Debra - just remind us on Monday, I would love to visit, I just don't think about it very often!

It was really windy here all day - right now it is blowing snow around! Temp has dropped from almost 40 earlier to about 15 now! TV is saying wind chill is -1, my weather station is saying -12:scared1: I did not do anything today - but if I added all the walking I did while shopping today, I bet it would have been significant. At least the weekend should be nice, and I can make up for today.

Well we're holding a family meeting Sunday, everyone gets a vote and each vote counts. Pros & Cons we'll see what happens. I am abstaining as I don't want to bias anyone's vote...
it is quite a dilemma, believe me.
My wife and oldest son thought it was beautiful country, long roads. The folks we met and visited with were polite, kind and genuine.
I'll let you know, thanks for asking..

Yes Jack, good luck on the decission, Wyoming is a great state and the people are great.

I survived, mentally, the week barely; we are going through some major transitions in my office with some very far reaching implications. The next 4-6 weeks will be a hand and head full. I am glad to have a good job.

Sunny and no wind yet, looking at the low 40’s for a high. Need to get out for a run or walk.

Dave great training numbers, the 16 hour days are getting to me.

Connie,

Here are my times for this week.

Training: 1.5 hours
Walking/Running: 1 hour 53 minutes
5.25 miles

My posting may be hit or miss for the next two weeks. My daughter (age 28) is having open heart surgery to repair a heart defect that she was born with and a complication that has developed due to the defect. I will be leaving tomorrow to go to Indianapolis where the surgery will take place. I will be staying with her when she comes home from the hospital as she can't do ANY lifting for quite some time. If you would like to know more, you can read about her at: www.caringbridge.com/visit/annablankenbaker

She said I could use her YMCA membership while she is recovering, so hopefully I'll get some workout time there.

Our loose topic for 'Ohana's first Monday Mixer is "What song made you laugh out loud the last time you heard it?"

Of course, you don't need to stick with that prompt. You can talk about the last thing that made you laugh out loud, period. Or the Oscars, Nascar, Pixar. Good Morning Team!

Just got off phone making reservations for our Jan stay at WDW for the marathon, and did not have enough points at home resort to finish it, will need to finish at 7 month window - and learned that we added wrong and will be short a few points for all our planned vacations:scared1: , so we need to rethink some of them. What fun!

It is getting cloudy here, but is supposed to be mostly sunny and warm here today. Good day for dog walk. I really paid yesterday for not exercising for the 2 previous days! I did get in a 6 mile walk yesterday, but my whole leg hurt - both of them! My knee bothered me all day yesterday. Will have to see what it is like today, need to get in both a walk and leg weight routine! That should teach me to blow off 2 days! Problem is that I don't learn well.

Time to go over to say hi to the O'Hana folks - have a great day team!

Happy Monday team! I hope everyone had a great weekend! We had another dumping of snow... when will it end :) Part of me is glad that I'm not signed up for any races until May because I've found the city isn't doing a good job of keeping the sidewalks ice free. Or maybe I'm just noticing now that I'm a runner ...

I'm looking for a new pair of running shoes. I currently run in Asics Kayanos 14 but I think they're causing big toe pain in my right foot. I will go to a running store but just wondering if anyone has a preference for a stability shoe. I was thinking of New Balance but wondered what everyone else thought.

Mary - I'm keeping you and your daughter in my thoughts  Hoping she has a speedy recovery.

Margie - Well, now that you put it out there, I guess I have to actually start that scrapbook page! I was going to say finish but ... that's assuming I already started. :rolleyes1 :rotfl:

Lynn - I'm rethinking one of my WDW trips as well. I may stay at Pop for the first time. I figure it's better than not going at all.

Sue - I hope your job is safe. Lots of restructuring and reorganizing here too *sigh*. You wouldn't believe the departments that are being moved overseas.

Good morning Lynn. How is ya princess?

I was looking at the point resale values this morning and they are much cheaper than they were in January. There are OKW points offered at $64 a point. There were even BCV for $80 a point, thats lower by about $10 a point than I saw in January. We still have two years till we will be in the buy zone, unless the points start rising again or if they get even lower we might start gathering sooner.

I have to work a 12 hr shift today so not much cyber fun time today.

Jack - Funny, you recommended those shoes. I saw someone at the gym last night wearing them so I was asking how he liked them. He wasn't a runner so he didn't really know much about them.

I went for a 3.5 mile run in 29 minutes today and I noticed my shoes have hit almost 300 miles and are starting to wear a little. So it's almost time to go shoe shopping!!! My previous favorites were the Adidas Supernovas and I made the mistake of changing brands, so I'm definitely going back to Adidas but thinking I may try the Bostons instead of the Supernovas.

Hi Everyone!

DVC at one time was a minimum of 150 points to start. I think it's still the same.

We had some snow and rain and more snow so it became a mess. We are just 50 min from Jennifer and the difference is amazing when it comes to weather.

My niece lives 20 min from us and has a long drive way with a hill. Both she and her DH and DS have the flu so after a long day Mark and I went to plow them out last night. The just didn;t have the strength or desire to snowblow that long drive. So no work out for Mark and I, as we went together. They live on a long country road. We told them to stay in the house we would take care of clearing the way - we don't want the flu!

Today I decided that even if it was 20 min I would do the ellip which I did 30  When I was done I check VM messages, my nephew(the brother to the niece above) and his DW and DS have the flu and were not able to physically clear the end of their driveway. Mark walked in the door and back out to come to their aid. I stayed home as I was a sweaty mess from the workout.

To say it's been a rough winter is an understatement. We are hopeful that we are on the downside of it. It's suppose to be 40+ on Friday with some rain so that will start the process of bringing down the piles of snow.

Mark and I are off to WDW on Monday for a few days together - thank goodness for DVC - as you can imagine with the economy today, we would not be going were it not for points, annual passes and Magical Express.

I missed that whole party thing yesterday because of the above and since I am unable to post from work, I don't have much time at home to do the same.

I do see your threads and posts because the email subscription is instant so I can at least keep up with what's going on.

Will update my siggie to reflect my workout time -as little as it is and hope to get lots of miles next week. Have checked out maps from disneyrunning.com and will do some morning miles to start the day off right.

Take care for tonight -miss all of you.

Good morning team. I haven't been here much this week but I'm alive and kicking. Work and extra gym time have taken a toll on my cyber time. I started a face book and haven't been able to stay current with that at all. I do get to throw ground hogs at people there though.:)

I'm off to the gym early also Margie, I have been building back up slow and steady from the marathon and I'm pretty close to normal again. When you are a senior athlete you have to take proper recovery time from the long stuff.

Anyone have a race coming up soon? My first competition is Mar 28th. It will be a 5K walk race along with a 5K run race. The walk usually brings some good talent from Kentucky, Tennessee and Indiana. I have been third once and second once overall and won the masters catagory for the last two years. Maybe this year I'll finally win the darn thing. Last year I had 4 second place finishes a third and a 5th.

My health club has a Biggest Loser contest going on. I have been helping some of the contestants with their programs.

I am not looking forward to what the back yard will look like after they have been left alone all day for a few days! I will have to make sure I get up early enough to get them out for a short walk before work, and another walk after work! I will have to see how working full time affects my work out schedule:scared1:

Have a great day all!

I have the mickey waffle iron, so we make them all the time.

We also make Mickey waffles at home on a regular basis!
