Hello, my fellow DIS'ers! After a long absence I'm back with a new food review.
CoolDisneyCat, aka "Mom," and I spent January 21-January 28 eating and drinking our way around Disney World, and now I'm here to share our adventures with you! We debated the dining plan, the deluxe dining plan, the... no dining plan... but in the end we got an AP and a Tables in Wonderland (the artist formerly known as DDE) card.
Our restaurant choices changed (a lot) during the course of the trip, but here's where we finally ended up...
1/21: Spoodles (dinner) (http://www.disboards.com/showpost.php?p=30052806&postcount=11)
1/22: Yak & Yeti (lunch); Boma (dinner) (http://www.disboards.com/showpost.php?p=30094464&postcount=14)
1/23: LTT (lunch); Cape May (dinner) (http://www.disboards.com/showpost.php?p=30460874&postcount=26)
1/24: Beaches and Cream (lunch); Flying Fish (dinner) (http://www.disboards.com/showpost.php?p=30489729&postcount=30)
1/25: Around-the-world nosh (lunch); Marrakesh (dinner)
1/26: BCV room service (lunch); Portobello (dinner)
1/27: Jiko (dinner)
1/28: Boma (breakfast)
As soon as I get my pictures uploaded and edited, you too will be able to experience the visual delights of our Disney dining deliciousness!

We now interrupt this not-yet-begun dining review to present Part 1 in my continuing series, "Things Overheard..."
Today's episode: Things Overheard... on the Monorail
Mom to little boy (pointing to GF): That's where mommy's going to stay next time, all by herself.
Little Boy: I can't come?
Mom: No, it's just going to be mommy.
Little Boy: But this is where dreams come true!
Mom: I know; that's why mommy will be by herself! (pointing to wedding pavilion) That's where mommy's getting married next time.
Little Boy: Can I come to that!?
Mom: Sure, but we're not inviting daddy.
This has been Part 1 of "Things Overheard..." Tune in later for Part 2!
Also, finally have time to work on the pics, so expect the first actual food post to be occurring soon. :thumbsup2

We always drive down to Disney, b/c it really isn't that bad and we like to take our time. We decided to spend the night in St. Augustine so we could go to this store, Among the Flowers, and indulge my mom's Vera Bradley obsession. It was worth it. :thumbsup2
The next morning we were up bright and early to finish our trip, and we reached the Beach Club at about 1. We checked in, and after much haggling about our room location (I know requests are just *requests,* but this was the first time in the history of our Disney adventures where they hadn't honored *any* of our requests... so we haggled), we went on a long, long adventure trying to find lunch and a place to get our AP and TiW card.
Anyway. We ended up eating lunch back where we started, the Beach Club Marketplace. We were a little disappointed because the sandwiches are pre-made, and the one we wanted (roast beef) comes with mayo. We ended up with the ham, because it was plain. It was good, but cold in the middle. They use the same ovens there that we use at work, and they're a pain.
Again, anyway. For dinner we had our traditional first-night ADR: Spoodles!
Spoodles is one of our favorite WDW Dining Destinations. I was a little disappointed last time we went (see the 5/08 review in my sig), but we would never stay away!
They tried to seat us in the middle of the aisle, which we hate, so we asked if we could have one of the booths. The CM was like, "I'll have to make sure they're not reserved." Um, by whom? The place was still almost empty at that point. Mystery reservers weren't present, however, so we got our booth.
I ordered the Sangria...
http://i58.photobucket.com/albums/g264/softseabreeze/Food%201-09/121sangria.jpg
And Mom ordered this lemonade drinky from the universal drink menu. It was, er... minute maid light lemonade, vodka, and... some type of fruit juice or vodka, maybe raspberry? Can't remember...
http://i58.photobucket.com/albums/g264/softseabreeze/Food%201-09/121lemonade.jpg
Both of these drinks were yummy, fruity and refreshing. I ended up with a bad headache, tho, about halfway through the meal, so I didn't finish mine.
Our lovely waiter brought us some bread...
http://i58.photobucket.com/albums/g264/softseabreeze/Food%201-09/121bread.jpg
with the olive tepanade...
http://i58.photobucket.com/albums/g264/softseabreeze/Food%201-09/121tepanade.jpg
Extreme close up!
So delicious! The tepanade is sour and a little bit spicy; delicious olive oil... I love it!
We also ordered the dips, but I didn't get a pic of those. My favorite is the tzatziki with an olive perched on top. I don't even like olives!
For our entrees, Mom chose the pumpkin ravioli with wild mushroom pesto and balsamic reduction...
http://i58.photobucket.com/albums/g264/softseabreeze/Food%201-09/121ravioli.jpg
She loved this dish! She ate every bite. She's not much of a fan of shrooms, but she said when combined with the sweetness of the pumpkin, they were a nice earthy compliment. She liked that the raviolis were more filling than pasta, too.
I went with an old favorite, the red snapper with Israeli couscous...
http://i58.photobucket.com/albums/g264/softseabreeze/Food%201-09/121snapper.jpg
Yum. The fish has a nice crispiness on the outside, and it's cooked perfectly. I love the couscous and the tomato broth, though if anyone watched Top Chef restaurant wars, one of the judges said he hates fish in water because that's where it came from. It reminded me of this dish, but I like the tomato water. ;)
We thought we were too full for dessert, but Mom said, "Well, lemon pound cake might be ok..." I hadn't seen that one, but I was like, "Ohh, yeah, that sounds good!"
And boy, it was!
http://i58.photobucket.com/albums/g264/softseabreeze/Food%201-09/121cake.jpg
A slice of lemon pound cake topped with a sesame seed topping and marscapone whipped cream and served with lemoncello on the side. *sigh* So delicious! The whipped cream was fantastic, sweet and thick, and the lemoncello was like a light, lemony syrup that soaked into the cake. Overall, a wonderful dessert!
We always love Spoodles, and unless something drastic happens, it's a must every trip for us. This visit was one of the best we've had in a while, and we can't wait to go back!

I'm once again interrupting your regularly scheduled food review for Part 2 of my continuing series, "Things Overheard..."
Today's episode: "Things Overheard... at the Animal Kingdom"
Let me set the stage for you. I'm in Asia, at those bathrooms just down the path from Everest, the ones near the Himalayan outfitting station or whatever. These two teenage girls are standing nearby, and the following conversation ensues...
Girl 1: They, like, call it Asia, but there's, like, all this stuff from India here.
Girl 2: Maybe it's, like, India and Asia?
Girl 1 (highly skeptical): Mehbe.
This has been another episode of "Things Overhead..." Stay tuned for more food!

We usually save AK for our last day, but then we tend to skip it - it's one of our favorite parks, but we're usually worn out by the end of the trip! This trip I decided to make AK our first day park; no skipping allowed!
We got there pretty early, and Mom headed to Everest for a fastpass, while I waited for her at the Safari. After watching lions snooze and elephants bathe (don't get me wrong; I love watching lions snooze and elephants bathe!), we headed over to Asia and Everest.
We rode it twice, and by that time we were getting sorta peckish. We headed back up to Yak & Yeti. This man behind us had a party of 10, and when the hostess asked if he had a reservation, he actually laughed at her. Very rude.
Anyway, we didn't have a ressie either, but we were seated fairly quickly in a little side room.
We decided to order appetizers for our lunch, and we ended up with the friend green beans, the dim sum platter for 2, and chicken lo mein.
http://i58.photobucket.com/albums/g264/softseabreeze/Food%201-09/122yygreenbeans.jpg
Veggies? Good for you?! Fry em!
http://i58.photobucket.com/albums/g264/softseabreeze/Food%201-09/122yydimsum.jpg
http://i58.photobucket.com/albums/g264/softseabreeze/Food%201-09/122yylomein.jpg
Let's start with the beans. The menu describes them as "wok-fried," so we thought that meant slightly more tempura-like. They might've been wok-fried, but certainly not back in that kitchen. They were basically just "pour 'em outta the freezer bag, reheat, serve." They were ok, but a waste of calories. The sweet chili sauce with them was actually rather good, tho.
The dim sum basket for 2 was also slightly underwhelming. The pork sie mai (little pork bun thingies) were good, but the pot stickers (usually my favorite) were... eh. The sauce that came with the dim sum was waayy too tangy. That's the only word for it. It was overwhelming. The sweet chili sauce that came with the beans was much, much better.
The lo mein was the best part! There was a *ton* of chicken (to the point that I was wishing for a few more noodles), and the flavor was quite good. We were glad we'd ordered it - we almost hadn't - because it was really good.
Now, these 3 apps plus a diet coke and unsweet tea was... $63!?!? Holy moly!! We thought that was a bit ridiculous, and next time will probably stick to one of the tried-and-true CS places of AK. Also, they don't take the TiW card, but we did use our DVC to get a 10% discount. We also could've used the AP for a 10% discount.
Next up... Boma!! Let me apologize in advance for how blurry these pics are. I have 5 or 6 versions of each of them, and they all look the same. My photography gets better later in the trip, I promise!
We were first offered a really awful table in the middle of the aisle; we hate that, so we asked if we could wait a bit longer and get a different one. The weird part was the restaurant was pretty much full (of course), but they had an entire section closed b/c there was no server. They couldn't've called someone to cover that section on a busy night? Strangeness.
After waiting about 10 more minutes, we were shown to a table that made us *much* happier. Mom ordered her usual tea, and I got a strawberry basil lemonade off the universal drink menu...
http://i58.photobucket.com/albums/g264/softseabreeze/Food%201-09/122blemonade.jpg
From this pic you'd think I'd already drunk it! It was very, very good; nice and light and fruity. It had minute maid light lemonade, strawberry puree, basil, and vodka. Yum!
We started with soup, as we usually do at Boma...
http://i58.photobucket.com/albums/g264/softseabreeze/Food%201-09/122bpotsoup.jpg
http://i58.photobucket.com/albums/g264/softseabreeze/Food%201-09/122bstew.jpg
That's potato bacon and some sort of stew for me. I loved, loved, loved the stew. It had a fantastic peppery flavor, and huge chunks of chicken and okra and other bits of deliciousness.
Mom's plate...
http://i58.photobucket.com/albums/g264/softseabreeze/Food%201-09/122bmomsplate1.jpg
Potato bacon soup, 3 kinds of humus (one is hidden by the soup), flat bread, and cous cous. I asked her to get the cous cous; it's the cold one, and it's nice and tart and delicious. She likes the gray (olive) humus the best, and she loved her soup, of course.
http://i58.photobucket.com/albums/g264/softseabreeze/Food%201-09/122bcurry.jpg
Me again! Chicken curry soup here. I took one bite and knew Mom would *love* it. Sweet, a little spicy, big chunks of chicken. She was like, "Will I like it?" I said, "Yes, yes, try it!!" She loved it. Does she think I'd lead her wrong?? She ate most of this bowl (though not all; I was greedy!), and then got her own. She later said this soup was one of the best things she ate all week.
Ok, on to the main course. Let's start with my plate...
http://i58.photobucket.com/albums/g264/softseabreeze/Food%201-09/122bmyplate1.jpg
A huge slab of the carved meat, mac and cheese, potatoes with affritude, mealie bread, and on the other plate, cous cous and salmon.
The meat: I was concerned when ppl said they didn't have prime rib anymore, but I liked this quite a bit better than the prime rib. It still had the nice flavor, but it wasn't nearly as fatty. Overall, :thumbsup2 :thumbsup2
I always love the mac and cheese mixed with the potatoes; it's one of my favorites! The mealie bread wasn't as good as back in May; I think changing it to the corn muffin format wasn't an improvement. The cous cous was good, but again I didn't like the salmon.
Mom's plate...
http://i58.photobucket.com/albums/g264/softseabreeze/Food%201-09/122bmomsplate2.jpg
Wow, very blurry. Sorry! Anyway... meat, potatoes with affritude, peanut rice, some more humus, and a "life's too short, eat dessert first" zebra dome.
She liked the new meat better than the prime rib, too. She's not a big prime rib fan anyway, and she thought this meat was more flavorful. The peanut rice is one of her favorites, so all I kept hearing was, "Mmm, I love this peanut rice!" The zebra dome was delicious, of course.
Now, dessert! My plate...
http://i58.photobucket.com/albums/g264/softseabreeze/Food%201-09/122bmydessert.jpg
I stuck to basics. A spice cake pyramid, some banana bread pudding w/ vanilla sauce, and zebra domes.
I love this bread pudding. It's chock full o' bananas, but no raisins or other dried bits that I hate in my bread pudding. It's not too sweet, and it's nice and cinnamony. It's surpassed zebra domes as my favorite dessert at Boma. :faint:
I still love zebra domes, though. :goodvibes Small, creamy bites of chocolatey goodness *sigh* Yum!!!
Mom's dessert...
http://i58.photobucket.com/albums/g264/softseabreeze/Food%201-09/122bmomsdessert.jpg
Apple cobbler, spice cake pyramid, chocolate mousse, brownie, and zebra domes.
She really liked the cobbler. She put some of the vanilla sauce on it. She said the apples were nice and mushy; she doesn't like crispy apples in her cobbler. :) She always puts the mousse on the brownie and eats it that way, and again it was a hit.
Overall, Boma was wonderful as always. It's become one of our favorite restaurants, and we always really look forward to it. There's great variety, flavor, and quality here. Definitely a winner!!

Why yes, I say. I have been. Sorry for my absence, dear DIS'ers, but work is killer atm. I guess I should be thankful I have work at all!
I've returned for part 3 of my continuing series, "Things Overheard..."
Today's episode: "Things Overheard... at the Haunted Mansion."
To set the stage... The line for the Haunted Mansion is fairly long, out the gate and past the hearse. I get in line, but Mom hasn't joined me yet. A few people line up behind me, including a pair of teenage girls (poor things). After 2-3 minutes of standing in line, the following dialogue ensues...
Girl 1: What're we in line for?
Girl 2: I dunno. I just got in line.
Girl 1: (pause) Oh. Ok.
My inner monologue: Baaahhhh!
At times like this, Frank and I are glad we're not like other sheep.

For those of you who may've been waiting with baited breath for my next installment of drool-worthy pics, I'm afraid you're going to be a bit disappointed.
Apparently on our MK day, Mom and I were so overcome with hunger that we forgot to take pics! Ahhh! Ok, I have one. So let's begin...
LTT is our traditional lunch spot on MK day, and today was no exception. I had wanted to arrive at the park early enough for breakfast at Main Street Bakery, but that didn't happen. We did arrive early enough, however, to hit up a few rides before heading over to Liberty Square.
I stood in line behind this woman who was making an ADR for February, and she changed her day twice after the CM had already inputted her info. *le sigh* Finally I checked in, and we only waited a few minutes before we were seated.
I wanted to hit the bakery later, so we decided to just get burgers and skip appetizers or dessert.
Mom's burger...
http://i58.photobucket.com/albums/g264/softseabreeze/Food%201-09/123lttburger.jpg
Mom doesn't eat fries, so she got hers with the green beans. I got fries, but otherwise the burgers were identical. We love LTT burgers! They're always cooked perfectly, great bread... I love the fries, and the green beans were great. We really enjoyed our meal, as we always do, and it was a nice break.
After lunch we wanted to ride BTM, but the line was insane, so we headed to pirates, watched the parade (the first showing of the new parade!), shopped a bit on Main Street, and then...
The Bakery! No pics here, folks, sorry. :(
We ordered one cookie ice cream sandwich to split (oh, that reminds me of a Things Overheard I'll have to do later). Last time we got one of these we got one each, and that was way too much. I'm glad we decided to split it this time!
Anyway, it was pretty good. The ice cream is good, vanilla, but *good* vanilla. I remember the cookies being warm and soft, but these were hard, and difficult to eat even with a fork. Couldn't they've warmed them up for a few seconds? We do it for ppl at work all the time, and we're not a bakery!
Like I said, pretty good. Next time I might stick with the delicious looking cheesecake! ;)
We had ADRs for dinner at Raglan Road, but we were pretty worn out after wandering the MK all day, so we decided to check if we could get in at Cape May. The CM was really nice. He said, "It'll be about 40 minutes, but I'll see if I can get you in sooner. Sorry it's such a long wait!" Dude, come on. No ADR. We weren't starving, so we had no problem staking out a place in the Beach Club lobby and waiting. It was only about 30 minutes.
We've had Cape May before, but it was so long ago that I don't remember it at all. Back then Mom only ate fried seafood, and she says she doesn't remember if they had the "American" side of the buffet, so she didn't really enjoy it.
We loved it this time! Again, no pics, sorry! I started with the Caesar salad, which I got mainly b/c of the huge croutons and tons of parm. I also got some clam chowder, but it tasted basically like Campbell's potato soup or something; decent, but not worth wasting the room over at a buffet!
I had some clams and mussels, which I'd never really had before. I enjoyed them a lot. The fish of the day, a battered cod, was a big hit with both of us. We also enjoyed the carved meat, mashed potatoes, and green beans. Mom *loved* the green beans! I really enjoyed the Mickey-shaped mac and cheese and the soft rolls. The corn bread was good, too, but only with a lot of the sweet, delicious butter they offer.
For dessert I loved the little cupcakes they had. The icing was a little sweet, but the cake was very nice. Mom liked the Oreo bonbons a lot, but I thought they were too sweet. We both liked the little key lime tarts - nicely tart, great tart shell.
Overall we really enjoyed Cape May, and we'll definitely be back. Even if you don't like seafood/shellfish, there's plenty to eat. Mom didn't have any of the clams or mussels and she was still very, very happy and full.
Up next: Beaches and Cream and Flying Fish - and back to the pics, b/c MK day was the only day we forgot!!

Enjoying your reviews!
And I have a gem of an overheard convo I've been hanging onto:
We're standing in the line for Haunted Mansion, we get into the stretching room, and they close the door. There's a Mom behind me holding her son, I'm bad guessing ages, he couldn't have been older than 4. The next thing he lets out with "They're going to kill us!!" He was totally freaking out. I was laughing. I'm a terrible person.

The stretchy room is scary.
I'm glad everyone is enjoying the "Things Overheard..." and, of course, the reviews. I think I'll skip "Things Overheard..." for today, and just get straight to the food!
Today (Saturday) was our rest day, and we had ADRs at Flying Fish for dinner. What to do for lunch when at the Beach Club...? Oh! Beaches and Cream!
Lemme tell ya... people are taking this "What are you celebrating?" thing and running with it; I've never seen so many Kitchen Sinks during one slow-time lunch!!
Even though I love their chicken noodle soup, we were eating kinda late and we knew we wanted ice cream, so I decided to forgo. We both ordered the hot dog with chili and cheese w/ fries...
http://i58.photobucket.com/albums/g264/softseabreeze/Food%201-09/124bcdog.jpg
Now if you read my May review, you'll know we've become pretty disappointed with the burgers here lately, so we just decided to skip that altogether. The hot dogs were, as they were last time, very good. They have great fries at B&C, and the hot dogs are high quality. I like the chili, too; lots of stuff in it, so you feel like it's not *so* horrible for you! :rotfl:
For dessert... The No Way Jose!
http://i58.photobucket.com/albums/g264/softseabreeze/Food%201-09/124bcjose.jpg
You can see Mom and her spoon there, waiting for me to hurry up so she can dig in! We used to always get the Fudge Mud Slide, and while it's delicious, last May we switched to the No Way Jose. I don't think we've looked back. The peanut butter is so creamy and delicious, and the chocolate ice cream is just perfect. We looove this dessert, as I know many of you DIS'ers do, and it, if nothing else, will keep us coming back to B&C!!
We went back to the villa and napped our lunches away, and by the time we got to the Boardwalk we were pretty hungry. We were about 10 minutes late for our ADR (oops...), but tbh we were actually only about 4-5 minutes late; I waited forever behind this lady at check-in.
Regardless, we only waited a few minutes before we were seated, and we had a great table by the window. Ahhh, Flying Fish? How do I love thee? Let me count the ways...
1, The bread!
http://i58.photobucket.com/albums/g264/softseabreeze/Food%201-09/124ffbread.jpg
Munched, as you can see! This bread is very good, crunchy, a bit sour, and with really fantastic, creamy butter. Yum yum.
2, Cheeeese!!
http://i58.photobucket.com/albums/g264/softseabreeze/Food%201-09/124ffcheese.jpg
I ordered the cheese plate as my appetizer. I kept my sheet with the cheese info, but I seem to've misplaced it. Oops. My favorite was the creamy one on the far right; it was fantastic with that jelly-like substance (wow, I sound very sophisticated!). The one with the dark rind was also very, very good, especially with the honey. I didn't care for the blue. At all.
As I said in my May review, if you like cheese but are hesitant to order a cheese plate - go for it! I really enjoy trying the cheeses with the accompaniaments (oy, sp), and it's a fun experience.
For her app, Mom got the soup...

On the menu the day before they were offering potato leek bisque with rock crab, but I guess the potatoes on Saturday were no good! This is a roasted tomato bisque with fennel and a grilled gouda sandwich on the side. Mom enjoyed the soup, but the chunks of fennel were quite large and she ate around them. I had a bite, and it was tasty goodness.
For our mains, I had the scallops...

Ahhhhh. I want to eat this right now. The scallops were good, of course, but the risotto... Wow. WOW. It was butternut squash and marscopone risotto. It was creamy, a little sweet, with a tiny bit of heat. Honestly, this risotto was one of the best things I've ever put in my mouth, and when you added a salty ham cracklin and a bite of perfectly cooked scallop... :cloud9:
Mom ordered the mahi-mahi...
http://i58.photobucket.com/albums/g264/softseabreeze/Food%201-09/124fffish.jpg
It was almond-crusted mahi-mahi served on a bed of greens and beets and surrounded by a sauce that included (as you can see) rock shrimp. Mom didn't eat much of the fish, and when I had a bite I could tell why - it was a very, very large piece of fish, and it was actually fairly dry. I've never had an improperly cooked *anything* at FF, so I was really surprised. She and I both agreed the greens were fantastic, and she really enjoyed the shrimp.
For dessert, I had the peanut butter bread pudding...
http://i58.photobucket.com/albums/g264/softseabreeze/Food%201-09/124ffpudding.jpg
This dish was my disappointment of the meal, which is very unusual at FF - I *love* their desserts! Firstly, I couldn't taste any peanut butter. The bread pudding was chock full o' bananas, which luckily I love, but there was no peanut butter flavor I could detect. Also, and I remember this from having their bread pudding before, it tasted a little burnt. Maybe it's how they warm it? I don't know. The bananas in it saved it from being too dry, but I wish I'd gotten something else, or split Mom's with her.
Her dessert was the no sugar added cheesecake...
http://i58.photobucket.com/albums/g264/softseabreeze/Food%201-09/124ffcake.jpg
I want to say it was the pumpkin cheesecake, but I wouldn't swear to it. I had a bite, and it was very creamy and delicious. She ate every bite (except mine!), and really enjoyed it. Ohh, right, THIS is what Flying Fish dessert is supposed to be like!
Though I was disappointed with my dessert, and Mom a bit with her fish, FF is still one of our favorite places. My risotto alone could've made up for nearly any blunder, especially the one as slight as I experienced with my dessert! Overall :thumbsup2 :thumbsup2
