We are first time cruisers taking the DCL transfer to the port. We would like to purchase some beer, wine and soda to bring on board however we are flying in late the night before, staying at the Hyatt and taking DCL bus transfer. I don't want to risk putting it in my suitcase and something happening. I'm thinking after we get to the port one of us could take a taxi to the closest grocery store to make these purchases. Does sound feasible, anyone done this or would we be better off waiting till we get to St. Martin? Can you wheel this on with a luggage carrier?
We are taking the Eastern 7 day Magic on June 1st. I appreciate any comments.
Thanks!

Save yourself the hassle and wait until St. Maarten. Liquor is very inexpensive there and then you don't have worry about getting a taxi and having them wait for you while you purchase things in Cocoa Beach.
You should be fine for the first few days until you get to St. M. In the meantime just bring some softdrink mixes such as Crystal Lite or Ice Tea Mix, etc. There is a 24 hour beverage station on Deck 9 that has cold water and ice, as well as tea, coffee, hot cocoa, milk. We brought our own pitcher and made soft drinks as mentioned above.

The first year we sailed on a 7 day cruise with DCL we were in the same boat (no pun intended). There is nowhere within the airport and I recall the price of a taxi being in the $20 range to get to a conveinence store. We just bought on board for the first few days and then purchased a case of beer in St. Maarten. The grocery store we used on the island was on a side street just above the main shopping area. Good Luck and Have Fun!
p.s.:the beer was a case of Red Stripe for $6.00, worth the wait! Christy

We have done 2 Disney Cruises and brought beer and "Pepsi" both times in a hard side suitcase. We just put them in ziplock bags and in the cases or a garbage bag around it and twist tie it up. Pack other stuff around it like bubble wrap and maybe beach bag, water shoes things other than clothes. We then used the empty suitcase for the souveniors (sp?) on the way home. No problems with checking it into the airlines or the ship.
