Hey all!! :welcome: to my very first TR. If you haven't read my PTR and are interested, the link is in my siggie.

We just returned from a wonderful, albeit interesting, family trip to WDW for 8 days. Allow me to introduce you to our crazy cast of characters:

Me aka Elastigirl (29) - I've been to Disney 11 times now and love love love it. It is truly my happy place. I could sit there and just BE for hours. I've done the world as a child, a daughter, an aunt, a sister, a best friend, a married woman and now a mom. Each trip gives new perspective and experiences and always makes me long to go back. This trip was no different. I'm suffering from the post-Disney vacation blues, I'll admit it. :sad1:

DH aka Mr. Incredible (31) - Never been to Disney before this trip, despite growing up 5 hours away. It took me a few years to convince him to give it a try and I was very worried he would hate it.... you'll have to stay tuned to find out if I managed to make a Disney believer out of him. ;)

Oldest DS aka Dash (6) - This was his second trip to the world, and he has been to Disneyland once, something I haven't even done. I'm so jealous!! He loves it. Loves the roller coasters, though this trip he informed me he only likes SLOW roller coasters! :rolleyes: Not many of those around.

Youngest DS aka Jack-Jack (1) - His birth a year ago spurred this trip. He was born on Dash's birthday and we decided to celebrate their birthday this year even before Disney announced their year of celebration. Go figure.

My Mom aka Fairy Godmother (66) - She started my family's love for Disney when she visited Disneyland California in 1956. She loves it as much as I do, if not more. She came along as a pseudo babysitter. Any excuse to get to come!

My MIL aka Mary Poppins (59) - She's only been to Disneyworld once before, to meet us on our trip in April 07. She lives about 5 hrs away from Orlando and really isn't a huge Disney fan truth be told, but she loves to see her grandkids any chance she gets.

My SIL aka Honey (34) - DH's only sibling. She loves all things Disney too, even worked at the Disney store in the evenings to get the perks!

My BIL aka Frozone (39) Generally an 'ice' guy that goes along with pretty much anything Honey wants.

So that's us! We weren't technically a Grand Gathering because the baby doesn't count! SIL and BIL were only able to join us for a bit.

Jump on board!! I promise there won't be many dull moments!!!

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~~~~~~~~~~~
Let's get back to the beginning! Part 1:
We booked this trip back before the Buy 4, get 3 free deal. I grabbed that code as soon as it came out and was able to add an extra day. Then around Christmas Jack-Jack got really sick. It took four doctor visits to diagnose him with Scarlet fever, and a stomach virus. It was a scary three weeks and our trip was touch and go for a while. So you can imagine the feeling I had when we were finally on our way!!! It was surreal for sure.
I sent Dash to school that morning to have one less absence. We actually got out of the house on time, which is amazing for us, ran a few last minute errands, picked up Dash and we were off to the airport. Taking the toll roads got us there in about 25 mins. We parked in long term parking and caught the shuttle to the airport. We had so much luggage it was crazy!!! Thankfully only one of our suitcases was over the weight limit.
We got through security with minimal issue. I have immense respect for any person traveling with children by themselves. Holy cow, it takes a village to get through security with an infant. I plopped my bag of white powder formula in the security bin and told the TSA agent that it was formula. They nodded and sent me through. Little scary, that. I mean it wasn't labeled or sealed or anything!! :scared1:
We headed to the food court. I love the food offerings at the Austin airport. They made a point to have only local restaurants in the airport and no chains. So no McDonald's, Sbarro's, or Burger King there. Mr. Incredible and I shared a BBQ plate. Got Dash pizza and FGM had a BBQ sandwich. Lunch was enjoyed by all.
Please take notice of the size of his cheeks as the trip progresses. :upsidedow
By the time we finished eating and had a quick restroom break, it was time to get on the plane. I mistakenly thought that because we were traveling with a lap child we'd be able to pre-board, which is really convenient on Southwest especially. I had checked us in online the day before but we were still at the end of boarding group A. Apparently, Southwest airlines no longer pre-boards for parties with small children. They have what's called family boarding that begins after boarding group A gets on. So we had a choice between getting in line at the back of group A or waiting in the pre-boarding area and going by ourselves. I opted to sit in the pre-boarding area so Jack-Jack could get down on the floor and cruise the chairs for a bit.
Sure enough, halfway through the loading of boarding group A, I smell *IT*. That *IT* that all mom's recognize instantly as their own child's special brand of poo smell. That's right. Jack-Jack had made me a special present. I had just changed him at the restroom break after lunch. I stood there torn. I didn't want to leave the pre-boarding area to go find a changing table. We were about to board and I wanted to make sure we all got seats together. So I laid him on a chair in the airport and changed him right then and there. :rolleyes2 I had a ziplock bag with me, so I quickly sealed up the present and deposited in the nearest trash bin. No one else was sitting in the preboarding area so I didn't feel THAT bad about it.
Very soon after the diaper was disposed of, we were called for family boarding. And on that little walkway chute-like thingie I smelled *IT* again -apparently he hadn't finished earlier. :crazy2: How could you not smell it there, I mean the little chute thing is all stale dry air with no airflow. I'm quite sure I wasn't the ONLY one to smell *IT* either. :faint: People were looking around with that dung under their nose look about them, wondering what the smell was.
I walked down between the seats of the plane toward the back where we could all sit together and grab Jack-Jack, a diaper, wet wipes and yet another ziplock baggie and head to the bathroom in the back. To be told the bathroom in the front has the changing table. I turn to look and the plane is still boarding. There was no way I could work my way up to the front, even if I had been a sized 2 skinny minnie! (which I'm definitely not) I opted to change him on the lid of the toliet. :rotfl2: Poor kid. Those bathrooms are tiny anyway and I'm trying to balance the diaper, wet wipes, ziplock, while keeping him from rolling off the toliet. We managed, but I know I looked like a crazed woman when I emerged, poopie diaper safely zipped up (the flight attendant had asked me not to throw it away in the restroom bin), hair a mess from leaning over, flushed and sweaty from being in that stale aired, hot little water closet. Jack-Jack thought it was fun. :confused3
We made our way back to our seats and were airborn in no time. Jack-Jack decided the window seat was the best so he sat in Dash's lap most of the trip.
http://i285.photobucket.com/albums/ll60/myjanboys/DSC00360.jpg
It was really cute. He yelled a few times in excitement but never got mad or cried. :thumbsup2 He did nurse under the nursing cover and fell asleep for the last hour of the flight. He did really well for his second plane ride ever. Dash loves watching out the window. He and I had fun trying to figure out on the map where we were. He's studying maps in school right now, so it was a great tie in!
More to come soon!! Will we make it to Orlando without another present in Jack-Jack's pants?? Will Magical Express be smooth sailing or provide unexpected obstacles?? Will I regret my decision to handle our own luggage instead of letting ME pick it up?!?!
Stay tuned!!!!
Disney wishes!! :pixiedust:
i'm here i'm here i'm here!
(duh, where else would i be, i don't leave for Disney for another 4 days)
Sounds like Jack-Jack was really trying to make it a memorable trip for you. Guess he succeeded. The whole TR isn't gonna be about poop, though, is it? :confused3
It's weird to have seen all your pictures and be (not-so-)patiently waiting to hear the stories behind them all!
Loving your TR so far - I soooooo understand about *that* smell. ::yes:: Your description of changing Jack-Jack, feeling half crazed, etc. oh, how familar that is to my TR! The adventure is always there with a little one, isn't it?!
Jack-Jack is ADORABLE, btw. Glad to hear it was a smooth flight with him too!
Looking forward to more!
YAY Brooke!!! I'm so excited you're reading. I'm a big fan and you were a huge help in preparing me to let the plans go to the wayside if I had to and just soak up watching my boys!!!
:rotfl: Definitely an adventure taking a one year old, for sure. I am tossing around the idea of a trip in December and can only imagine how much different it will be when he can walk and wants OUT of his stroller! But I wouldn't change it for anything!! :lovestruc
I left us off as Jack-Jack fell asleep on the plane. We had a very smooth landing and thankfully no more presents from Jack. We were off the plane in no time, with a quick stroller hand off from beneath the plane. We made the trek to the tram and found our luggage with no trouble. I had planned on tagging our luggage for ME up until two days before we left, and paranoia got the best of me and I chickened out. I was really scared that they'd miss the carseat and I was worried about not having access to our stuff for up to five hours with a little one. Dash had his backpack and one suitcase, FGM had two rolling suitcases, Mr. Incredible had two and I was pushing the stroller and pulling one bag behind us. ALL THE WAY FROM BAGGAGE CLAIM A to PARKING LEVEL B. Oh my!
About that time I was regretting not tagging our luggage and letting the Magical Express people handle it. But oh well. We finally make it to the Magical Express area after what seemed like fifteen elevators and ten miles of walking. :crazy2: The line for Magical Express was insanity. I should have known then that it was going to be more crowded in January then all the guidebooks said it was. I park everyone, grab my id and vouchers and proceed up to the line. Half way there I realize I had left my cell phone in my bag and might need it to txt Mr. Incredible.
I was in a hurry... rushing out of excitement and probably because it was so crowded. I grabbed my cell phone and turned around without looking and BAM! FGM had pushed her suitcase back behind where I was standing and I hadn't thought to turn around and look. I tripped over the suitcase, tried to catch myself, failed and went down like the Titantic. I swear it felt like slow-mo. My not-so-tiny self going SPLAT in front of 50 people waiting to board Magical Express. I managed to land on all fours, some how, though I'm not entirely sure how. I hopped up as fast I could, brushed off any attempts from FGM and Mr. I to see if I was ok and strolled up to the counter. Or at least I tried to stroll. More like hobbled. More like limped. Immediately I realized I had screwed up my left foot. The more I limped toward the line the more aware I became of the injury to my right knee as well. It was ironic that I had worn a bright pink shirt that day because I'm quite sure my flaming cheeks matched it perfectly. I was mortified. I managed to hold back the tears...tears from pain and sheer embarassment... on the way to get in line. Barely.
I moved through the line by double limping one step at a time. The line did move fairly quickly, with 7 cm's moving their way through all of those eager to be on their way to the Happiest Place on Earth. But I have to admit at that point I wasn't feeling very happy. In fact, I overheard a CM greeting all of her female customers with a cheeful bubbly, "Hello there Princess". I silently said a quick prayer that I would not end up at her counter because at that point I was feeling anything but princess-like and was afraid of what might pass my lips if greeted in such a way. Thankfully I got a nice friendly but non-princess greeting CM named Elsa. She was lovely and prompt. I txted Mr. Incredible to meet me over by the red carpet but quickly realized there was no way they could handle all the luggage. I had to walk back into the chair area in front of all the people I had gone SPLAT in front of! :scared:
I sucked it up and limped back to get my suitcase. FGM was feeling pretty bad. She felt she was responsible because she had moved her luggage. I explained that I was a big girl that should have looked before I turned around in such a hurry!
We did catch a bit of pixie dust next because we were the last 5 passengers on a very full bus. So we didn't have to wait for a bus to Pop at all. That was nice and much needed pixiedust: after my falling on my face in front of fifty people episode. You should have seen me trying to haul myself up into that bus. Right knee led first .... nope that hurt too much. Left foot first?? NOPE! Not pretty!! All kinds of thoughts were flashing through my head at this point. Would I have to rent a freakin' wheelchair for the trip!?! I didn't want to but knew I would if I had to before I'd let my clumsy self ruin a trip I'd been planning for 7 mths.
While on the bus, Jack-Jack made contact ET style with a kind Grandpa behind us. They reached out their index fingers to each other and touched fingers the entire way to WDW. I was excited when I saw the sign though!! :cheer2:
Mr. Incredible called his mom, Mary Poppins from the airport and she was stuck in Orlando traffic. When he called her again from the bus she was in her room waiting. I asked him to ask her what building she was in and all she knew was the room number. :rolleyes: So I still didn't know if we had managed to get first floor, 60s building like I had requested.
Soon enough we arrived and I hobbled up to the check in desk with FGM. We were maybe 3 parties behind the front of the line, so not too bad. But by this time it was after 6pm. Our flight had landed at 4:15pm. To give you some idea of how long it took to claim our luggage, get over to Magical Express, get through the line and on the bus to Pop Century.
When we checked in we got the same lady that had checked us in for our April 07 trip, which I thought was funny. She didn't remember us though... which is probably a good thing. I don't know that I would want to be that memorable! :rotfl: She checked my mom in first and gave her a room key. Her wording struck me as odd, so I asked that's her ticket too right? And she cocked her head and said no, just her room key. There's no ticket on the room for her. And I'm all... did my MIL get a ticket when she checked in? Because I have the invoice here where they booked a package and have paid for their 7-day base ticket already. She looked and sure enough MIL had a ticket on her room key, just not my mom. :scratchin I'm trying to be nice here, b/c I'm not one of those people that gets snarky easily. Worked too many years in customer service to get snarky with people. So I politely say Is it possible for two people in the same room to not have the same package? ( I knew it wasn't, but seriously... you think they would have clued in to their own rule) She said no. Thirty minutes later they got it straightened out. One computer showed both of them with tickets, one did not. Mary Poppins had to throw her first room key away and we had to bring her a new one. Apparently the CM that had checked her in, when Mary Poppins declined taking FGM's key at that time, somehow deleted the ticket for FGM. :faint: Thankfully I had printed out a copy of the invoice showing it was paid in full and had brought our little books showing what package we had booked.
Finally we get to our check in process. I get mine and the boys tickets and a map to our room. FIRST FLOOR 60s BUILDING!! We didn't pay for preferred locations so we were through the breezeway and by the lake side which was GREAT!!!! :cheer2: Lake view, quiet, but really close to Classic Hall! This made me do a little limpy dance !
We trucked to the room, luggage in tow and I told Dash to knock on Mary Poppin's window. Only it wasn't Mary Poppins! OOPSIE! So we scared some poor person to death I'm sure. We managed to get in our room and through the connecting doors was Mary Poppins!! She hadn't seen the boys since August, so Jack-Jack had really changed! All our (read- MY) plans to hop on a bus and explore the resorts went poof! Between the weather .... it was colder in Florida than it had been in Texas-by 40 degrees... the time it took to get through the airport with our own luggae-my stupid paranoia at not having everything handy...and my lovely quickly swelling knee and foot... we stayed at the Pop Century. I did take the time to let Mary Poppins check my foot out. She is a nurse afterall. She prescribed ice and to try to stay off of it. At Disneyworld?! Ha!
http://i285.photobucket.com/albums/ll60/myjanboys/DSC00361.jpg
Putting ice on my foot before heading to the Classic Hall. **Note-with the tripping over the luggage, I totally spaced taking pictures at the airport and on ME!!! BUMMER!**
We made our way to the food court right at 8pm. Not very smart of us. Boy was it CROWDED! :crowded: We managed to find a large booth at the very back. The moms went first and got food while we sat with Jack-Jack. He made friends with a nearby girl of about 12. They came back with Grilled Vegetable Lasagna and Shrimp Chipotle Pineapple Flatbread-the chef's special that night. Mr. Incredible got shrimp lo mein and I ordered a double bacon cheeseburger. The lines were insane. The CMs were getting frustrated. I turned to look right as I finally made my way up to order and Mr. Incredible was in line to pay. He was leaving me! I hadn't brought anything to pay with. So I start to panic. I yell at him across a very busy food court.... he doesn't hear me. I made the decision to break out of line to go stop him. I hobble over, get his attention and hobble back and get back in line. I'm sure the lady behind me wasn't very pleased but seriously? What else could I have done?
We get in line to pay, having to step around a little girl of about three laying on the floor in the middle of the food court. The mom was trying to carry the food, pay and convince a very tired little girl to get up. This would not be the last time I was extremely thankful for all the help I had with me.
Finally we sit down to eat. We all get a little silly and slap happy. Jack-Jack is showing off. I'm squeezing tie dyed cheesecake between my teeth. :hippie:
We head back to the room and get ready for bed.
http://i285.photobucket.com/albums/ll60/myjanboys/DSC00369.jpg
Jack-Jack in his PJs. He LOVED this mirror!
We all turn in around 11pm. I can't sleep. I get back up and write trip notes by the light of Stacy. I wish I had all the Disneyworld channels at home just to leave on in the background. I finally get to sleep around 12:30. 4:30 am my alarm goes off. Huh?! I hadn't set my alarm to go off til 8:30am. Then I realize it's not my alarm but my CELL phone is ringing. (I use the same ring tone for both alarm and incoming calls) It's FGM from the next room. We had closed the connecting door and she had knocked but couldn't get us to wake up. Dash was :sick: running fever!!
What was wrong with poor Dash... would his birthday trip be ruined by being sick? Would we make it to the park the next day?! Would I end up renting a wheelchair for my limping self!?
Stay tuned!!!!
Enjoying your TR so far. I flew from DFW to Orlando on the 26th and stayed at Pop Century. I was at MK that night also. I had a similiar beginning to my trip as yours which resulted in some limping around. I am going to try and start my TR today. Your mother looked so familiar to me. I am wondering if I my subconcious is remembering her from Pop or MK, hmmmmm. :scratchin
Can't wait to read more. I wish I could get all the extra stuff off my link. I am computer stupid :badpc:
Awwww thanks Jen!! I've a big fan, I read your pre-tr and need to get over and start reading your TR. I love the fact that you guys have two anniversaries. Too cool!!
:welcome:
On an :offtopic: note, for anyone that read my Pre-trip report you know that Mr. Incredible's job was changing and that it could have interfered with him joining us. Thankfully it didn't, and he was able to go. Well... today it was made official that he will be moving locations and got a promotion to do so! So :cheer2: we're really happy today in our house!!! I will try to post an update later today/tonight!!
I last left you with FGM calling my cell phone to wake us from the dead because knocking on the connecting door wasn't cutting it.
Dash had a fever... FGM said 'very high' and that he was 'shaking with it'. Ok that's enough to scare any mother. So I hop out of bed, only to be rudely reminded that I had fallen at the airport and hurt myself! Oh yeah! :scared:
I hobble into the other room and sure enough Dash feels really warm but I wouldn't say 'very high.' Thankfully I had packed a thermometer, so I took his temp and it was around 100.4. High enough to make him feel crummy but not taking him to the emergency room high. Ok. I can handle this. I got some children's tylenol and Allegra down him and made him use his nose spray. He was complaining of his throat hurting and you could tell he was stuffy. We all go back to bed. To awake three hours later.
I'm the first to wake in our room. I gingerly move around the room getting things ready for the day. I check on Dash and his fever is down considerably. I ask him if he wants to go into the park that day and he says 'YES!' I let him. FGM volunteered to stay with him but I honestly felt he wasn't THAT sick and if he wanted to go, I was going to let him. It broke my heart for him to miss HIS birthday celebration. The intinerary for the day was breakfast at Mainstreet Bakery, lunch wherever, and a date night for Mr. Incredible and I at Jiko. I had hoped to catch Spectro Magic and Wishes at the MK and then get to Jiko by 9:50pm using Mary Poppins' mini-van. But we were tired, and it was cold, and I was injured in the line of Disney-duty, and Dash wasn't feeling 100%. I quietly suggest that it would be ok with me if they wanted to skip the parade and fireworks this night, and everyone readily agrees.
Jack-Jack all bundled and ready to go to MK for the first time!!
We loaded everyone up and headed to the buses. Made it to the MK by around 11am. This would be a trend for the week. No matter what time I wanted us to get up and on the bus, we always seemed to be late. I think this is just a price you pay with a group of people. Different sleeping habits, different personal hygiene habits... :lmao: But we made it finally!! Thankfully my mom had brought her knee brace and I was able to use it. It was slow going but I was ok to walk. No wheelchair for me!!
Everyone but me ready to head down Mainstreet.
First glimpse of the castle... and the crowds.
We ate breakfast at Mainstreet Bakery. FGM and I split a cinnamon roll and a slice of French toast loaf. The French toast loaf was my favorite by far! YUM!! I got Dash a cupcake with loads of sugary icing and he wouldn't touch it. That's when I realized how truly rotten he was feeling. I offered several times to take him back to the hotel, but got a firm no each time. I didn't worry too much about him because we did do a length of stay stroller rental for him. FGM likes to push things... she always fights for the right to push the grocery cart so it worked out.
The Incredibles in all our Glory.
We make our way to Fantasyland and get in line for It's a Small World. This is a family tradtion for us. It was the first ride we rode on my very first trip in 1986 and we've been riding it first ever since. And it was the only ride we rode in Fantasyland.
http://i285.photobucket.com/albums/ll60/myjanboys/DSC00399.jpg
He loves hanging upside down.
Waiting in line.
http://i285.photobucket.com/albums/ll60/myjanboys/DSC00402.jpg
Sitting in Mary Poppins lap, ready to ride his very first ride!
We took the shortcut to Liberty Square and rode Haunted Mansion. This would be the first time we lost one of Jack-Jack's shoes. We found it thankfully. I thought for a while that it had fallen out of the buggy because Jack-Jack's feet were hanging over the side of it for a while. We slowly walk towards Frontierland and check out the wait times for Splash and Big Thunder. Splash is posting 20 mins and Big Thunder is posting 40 mins stand by. We grab fast passes for Big Thunder and decide to ride Splash standby. We park the g-ma's and Jack-Jack on a bench by the exit for Splash and were on our way. This was Mr. Incredible's first 'thrill' ride so that was exciting! It's also Dash's favorite and he was perkin' up by then.
http://i285.photobucket.com/albums/ll60/myjanboys/DSC00406.jpg
Dash was so excited to be back on Splash!
http://i285.photobucket.com/albums/ll60/myjanboys/DSC00408.jpg
Love this part of the ride!
http://i285.photobucket.com/albums/ll60/myjanboys/DSC00412.jpg
Red-neck photopass!
The wait was only 5 mins, so my assumption is that Big Thunder won't be anywhere close to 40 mins. We decide to ride it stand-by and then use our fast passes later. They weren't good for another hour or so anyway, so we'd get to ride it twice!
We check in on the g-ma's and Jack-Jack. He was happily walking back and forth down the bench and playing with Mary Poppins' umbrella. (Literally) They had a surprise visitor while we were gone. Goofy had set up shop right next to them for a photo op! And we took advantage.
http://i285.photobucket.com/albums/ll60/myjanboys/DSC00414.jpg
Don't ask what was going on with my mouth!
We get in standby line for Big Thunder and I'm thinking this won't take long. :lmao: One HOUR LATER! Are you kidding me?!! I've NEVER waited that long for Big Thunder Mountain. We get back to the g-ma's and head to Pecos Bill's for lunch. Only to be reminded that it's closed for refurb. We eat at the Pirate and Parrot. The menu was kinda blah. They had the BBQ sandwich and Cheeseburgers but no fries, only chips, and the fixin' bar was cold stuff only. No 'shrooms or cheese sauce! Jack-Jack was passed out by this time.
http://i285.photobucket.com/albums/ll60/myjanboys/DSC00425.jpg
Sleeping like a....wait for it...baby!
He slept while Mr. Incredible and Mary Poppins sat with him, while Dash, FGM and I used up our hot little fast passes on Big Thunder. After we were done, Jack-Jack was awake and we all rode POTC.
After a quick shopping spree for a sword, knife and telescope for Dash out of the Pirate's gift shop, we were heading out of the park. Not a very long day at all, not my norm but a good day nonetheless. With all the extenuating circumstances it was best not to push hard.
http://i285.photobucket.com/albums/ll60/myjanboys/DSC00426.jpg
Took this on the way out.
We got back to the hotel and were greeted with these guys:
Dash's Boo Bear hanging out waiting for us to return!
http://i285.photobucket.com/albums/ll60/myjanboys/DSC00448.jpg
I called Jiko and was able to up our reservation by an hour! We had a hot date to get ready for and kids to get fed before we left!!
Would we like Jiko!?! Would FGM figure out how to text?! Would we get a call from the g-ma's that Dash was getting worse and we had to cut dinner short?
Stay tuned!!!
:welcome: and thank you!! I definitely am not the most graceful, but normally I can at least catch myself. That suitcase was just too big. When I tried to catch myself I just tripped myself again! Hence the double injury, I think. The full room was the worst part, for sure!
Sorry for the lack of update last night everyone! Jack-Jack got his 12 mths shots yesterday. :sad1: Poor lil guy. I had postponed his wellbaby til after vacation in case of a delayed reaction to his vaccinations.
So we had a lot of mommie cuddling time last night and not a lot of playing on the floor time so mommie can type. And I really hate typing one handed! :rotfl: He seems to be over the majority of the fussiness today so hopefully I can post another update tonight.
For any of you that read Faerieprincess' P-TR they have landed in ORLANDO!!! So excited for them!!! :cheer2: But I won't spoil her updates!!! :rolleyes1 So that's all you're getting!!
Dash did improve really quickly once he rode his favorite 'slow' roller coaster, Splash Mountain. :rotfl2: He did cling to me the first ride on BTMRR but the second one he had his hands in the air. I was a proud mama!!! So yes, I'd say it looked at that point like he was getting better. Hmmmmm... I wonder if the trend will contiunue.
Thanks and :welcome: Hope ya didn't hurt yourself on the way down that tumble. ;)
I promise I'm working on another update, but I realized I need to slow it down a bit. #1 I don't want my TR to be over too quickly, gotta drag it out to prolong it all being officially over and #2 I realized how much I'm leaving out that I keep remembering. Case in point Dash clinging to me on BTMRR the first time and then putting his arms in the air on ride #2. That's important details, right there and I completely left them out on Day 2, Part 1! So I'm making sure I don't leave anything out.
Also...I must share with y'all my news because frankly y'all are probably the only people on earth that could possibly understand.... how.... someone that just RETURNED from Disneyworld two weeks ago......
could....
possibly....
have booked another trip in August?!!?!?!?!!!! :cheer2: :cheer2: :cheer2:
That's right, folks. I got the free dining PIN code in my email this afternoon and I booked a trip for just Mr. Incredible and I the week before Dash starts First Grade!!!! I'm super excited about it. Now I just need to tell Mr. Incredible when he gets home from work. :lmao: I booked Pop again but I did price AKL. Oh how tempting it is to upgrade since it's an adult only trip and it's gonna be :beach: sweltering in August and we might just spend a fair amount of time in our resort this time. Hmmmm. Choices, choices, choices!!!
Be back later with Day 2, Part 2!!!
When I left off we were back at the hotel and getting ready for our first of three scheduled date nights. Part of the reason the g-ma's were invited along on this trip was to have built in baby sitters! We were planning to take full advantage of this handy perk.
Dash was exhausted after feeling rotten all day. He curled up in the spare bed in our room with his bounty from the POTC gift shop after a dose of Allegra and another dose of children's Tylenol. He passed out! I mean he was out before I could get my clothes changed and all I was doing was changing from jeans to black slacks! Poor lil guy. He was so tired. My mom sat in our room with Jack-Jack while Mary Poppins went and laid down for a bit. We had called and uped our reservations from 9:50pm to 9:00pm. We went ahead and drove over there around 8pm using Mary Poppin's van. I have to admit I'm a little spoiled now, after having a vehicle to zip places on this trip. Especially in 'off' season when buses aren't running to the parks late at night.
We kiss Jack-Jack and head out. I was a lil sad... I mean we've gone on dates before at home just the two of us but for some reason I really felt it leaving him this time. I quickly perked up, holding hands with my hubby in my happy place. Keep in mind he had never been to Disney before and so far, I thought he was kinda digging it. I hadn't really had a chance to ask him yet, but planned to over dinner. We slowly strolled aka limped our way to the very far away 60s parking lot, hopped in the Mary Poppins mobile and were off! I had mapquested directions from Pop to AKL before leaving home and had them in my not so hot little hands. It was easily in the upper 30s that night. Brrrrrrrrrrrrr!!!
We got to AKL in 10 mins and found a place to park. Standing in our parking space was a ferious feline! I felt truly welcomed to the AKL with such a creature standing guard over our spot. The cute little tabby cat dashed off in search for food I'm sure. We strolled (limped) up the steps to the covered entry way of AKL and into the much appreciated warmth of their lobby. I loved it immediately which frankly surprised me. I'm not much of a Zoo person nor have I ever really dreamed of going on safari in Africa, but all the dark wood and comfy sofas and the fire pits really made me wanna stay here!! I loved the bridges over Boma leading to the lounge they have there. I loved the cushy bouncy giraffe print carpets in the hall ways. Loved the shop, too cute with all it's AKL themed merchandise. Would have loved the Mickey leopard print pj's but wasn't paying that much for something to sleep in that no body but my boys would see !!
After walking the length of the lobby and back again, shopping for a bit, we went ahead and made our way to Jiko.... after taking a wrong turn and walking down what ended up being a guest room hallway. Oopsie!!
When we checked in it was 8:30pm, a full hour and 20 mins ahead of our original reservation and 30 mins ahead of our new reservation. We were seated within 10 mins of checking in. :upsidedow I was happy.
We were led to the very back step up area and were seated at a four top, with maybe two other tables occupied in our area. Our server, Shellie, was fantastic. She wins the best service of the trip award, hands down. We started with water and ordered a few cocktails. I had their version of a Margarita which had cranberry juice in it- Yes please to the salt !! Mr. Incredible ordered the Hanging out in Capetown, which surprised me cus normally he's a Jack and Coke kinda guy, but when in Disney... I guess. I tried his and he tried mine and we both agreed we liked our own orders better than the other's, which was handy cus I wasn't giving him my drink!!! One margarita and I was feeling flushed! It packed a whallup. Course, I'm a pretty cheap drunk! :rolleyes:
For appetizer we ordered the Chef's Specialty Flatbread- I didn't write down the official description :sad2: and it's not on Allears but it had Shrimp, red, green and yellow bell peppers, goat cheese and a Zough sour cream which was basically chilantro flavored sour cream. This was so good!!! I wanted to try the Taste of Africa too but the shrimp flatbread really tempted us and I was glad we ordered it to share.
For entrees, Mr. I ordered the Kenyan Coffee Barbeque Braised Short Ribs and I ordered the Filet with Mac N Cheese, sauce on the side. My steak was fantastic and the mac really great but I have to say Mr. I out ordered me on the entree. The shortribs were OMG, melt in your mouth, mother may I have another, please just share that last crumb with me!!! GOOOOOOOD! Thankfully Mr. I was feeling generous....maybe it was the cocktail, maybe it was the Disney magic, maybe he just loves me.... but he shared four bites of heaven on a plate with me. Can't say enough about his shortribs!! If we go back, I will be ordering those babies!
I think it was about that time that I asked Mr. Incredible what he thought of Disney and while he never came out and said he loved it, I got the general idea that he was indeed having a great time and was looking forward to seeing what else was in store with the remaining parks and restaurants we had planned. :love: I had told myself that I didn't know if I wanted him to like it or not, because he might not let me go with my mom and sister without him if he did :rolleyes: , but let's be honest. I desperately wanted him to like it. It's such a big part of me, and he and I definitely have our differences... and this was one thing we could share. I was :cloud9: .
Dessert came round and I ordered the Pistachio Creme Brulee and Mr. Incredible ordered the No Sugar added Pumpkin and Dried Fruit Bread Pudding. Mr. I is not diabetic and in fact, has a major sweet tooth... he just wasn't feeling up to something overly sweet to mess with his just ordered Pot O Kenyan Coffee!! He and the server had a funny little dialog over the french press. See, Mr. I is in the restaurant business. We had our own little cafe a few years ago and he is somewhat of a self-taught chef. So when she plopped that press down on the table.... ok gracefully set in down lightly.... and she didn't move to press it, he went to grab it out from her hand and press it himself.
Truth be told, he probably wanted to play with a new gadget. I swear, she smacked his hand away. :lmao: By that time, we had been chit-chatting and picking on her and she'd dish it right back, so I guess she felt comfortable enough to assault a customer. She informed him that her french press was like the movie Dirty Dancing. The pot was her dance space!! Which I cracked up at but Mr. I just kinda blinked at her. I'm afraid I have to admit he's never seen Dirty Dancing. :confused3 I mean he got it for the reference about the French press....a Big Sign that said HANDS OFF BUSTER! But I found it more amusing than he I believe. Apparently, it needed to steep a little longer to be strong enough so she was waiting on it.
She insisted that I try the coffee as well, even though I tried to tell her I just don't like coffee. I have tried and tried to develop a taste for it but I just don't like it. She poured me a baby bit in the bottom of the warmed coffee cups she brought us and I added enough cream and sugar to make Mr. I gasp at me, and I still didn't like it. Mr. I drank 3 huge cups of it to make up for the two person serving being drank by one man!
The desserts were great, I definitely enjoyed my creme brulee and Mr. I said his dessert was just what he wanted, so there ya go. Just goes to show you that you never really know anyone. :rotfl:
We paid our bill and said goodbye to Shellie and hobbled out of the restaurant. We made our way outside and walked to Mara. I knew that you could get Zebra domes in their grab n go and by this time it was 10:40pm and Mara closed at 11pm. We had spent 2 hrs at Jiko!!! *insert wistful sigh smilie here* :cloud9: :lovestruc We definitely want to go back to Jiko and I was a little worried that I may have put the BEST at the front of our vacation and that we were gonna have a hard time topping our experience this night. I decided to let it go and just enjoy it for what it was.
Once at Mara, we bought one package of Zebra Domes to take back to share with the g-ma's. We slowly walked back under the breezeway, watching the steam rising off the pool because it was so cold, to the Boma/Jiko area and onto the elevator. We walked the length of the lobby once more and then left with a smile.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
Let me interrupt our regularly scheduled trip report to include the following sidebar:
During the middle of all our sappy, happy good dinner, I have to let you know about the communication with the g-ma's. I didn't want to put it in the middle of all the dining goodness, cus I didn't want to disturb the flow. :rolleyes: I'm rolling my eyes at myself there, btw.
So I had left my cell phone with my mom, because Mr. I had his on him. I had shown her how to text before we left, because I did not want to call and wake up anyone! Learned that the hard way before. Mom texted us back then and there while we were sitting there to help her, and she got the concept and was good to go. She texted us 'All is ok'. Easy enough. I knew that if she needed us to return early, she would just call us since there was no one to wake up on our end.
When we arrived at Jiko and were able to be seated early, I texted "Cked in 30 mins early. Love the resort. How are the boys?" I got the following jumble back:
A llllll issssssssss moooooooooooooooooookkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkk.
I died laughing when I got this, shared it with Mr. Incredible and we resumed dinner.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
We got back in the Mary Poppins Mobile and were back at the resort by 11:30pm. Got to the room to find a very happy hyper Jack-Jack entertaining the g-ma's in their room and a STILL asleep Dash. Poor guy. I checked his forehead and he didn't seem to have any fever, so I hoped that his sleep was a healing sleep and just what he needed. We slipped out of our room and into the g-ma's room. I laid out on the bed and propped my hurt knee up. And we presented the g-ma's with the zebra domes. We had one a piece, with my mom taking the extra last one. She reallllllly liked them. Don't get me wrong, I liked them too, having never tried them before, but after all that GREAT food at Jiko they didn't blow my socks off. But FGM ?? Well she was in heaven.
Suddenly, she asked me if I got her text and I bust out laughing. I say
"You mean the A llllll issssssssss moooooooooooooooooookkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkk. one? "
I draw on the ooo and sss and put the Mmmmmmmmmm in front of ok as best I can. Please keep in mind I had very little sleep the last few days, and had a margarita at dinner!
We all :rotfl2: even though it probably wasn't that funny. Apparently she had tried to text without her glasses on, while Jack-Jack was sleeping in her lap. FGM couldn't even see what she was texting, she just hoped it would get there and I would get the hint that all was indeed ok. :lmao:
We sat and chatted about the meal and the resort, thanked them profusely for watching the boys, heard all about how much food they had piled into Jack-Jack during the 3.5 hours we had been gone :scared1: and took leave of them back to our room.
It was a great first day, truly.
On the next episode of Hop, Skip and a Week....
Epcot, Day 3- Would we get on the bus at the time I had scheduled? Would we get to ride Soarin'? Would we get to ride anything??? Does Dash wake up refreshed and ready to go or does he relapse?!
Stay tuned!!!!
Just called and switched our August ressie at the Pop to a September ressie at AKL!!!! :cool1: :cool1: :thumbsup2 :thumbsup2 :cheer2: :cheer2:
Super excited!!!
It'll be our fifth anniversary this September, plus I'm hoping it's a little less crowded and a lil less hot in September than AugUST!! A girl can dream, right??
We'll be there for six nights, and will be leaving the boys with my mom, here at our house, so Dash can go to school and Jack-Jack can have his own bed, and surroundings. I'll miss the boys like crazy :guilty: :sad2: but you have to put your marriage first sometimes!
Yee Haw!!! You're gonna love AKL, we stayed there once before and it was very nice. You will love the whole place. You already have a good knowledge of the place. What view did you do? We had a poolview and I requested a 1st floor room so we could have the patio instead of the balcony. I really like being able to sit out there and listen to the music and hide behind the foliage. It was very cool and our private little cubby hole.:) Also it made for easy access to the Mara and the pool. We were in the Giraff trail rooms. I think that was the area. We loved the location.
Looking forward to the next instalment.
YAY Brooke!!! I'm so excited you're reading. I'm a big fan and you were a huge help in preparing me to let the plans go to the wayside if I had to and just soak up watching my boys!!!
:rotfl: Definitely an adventure taking a one year old, for sure. I am tossing around the idea of a trip in December and can only imagine how much different it will be when he can walk and wants OUT of his stroller! But I wouldn't change it for anything!! :lovestruc
I'm glad I was a help! I really had to mentally prepare before the trip to NOT expect to do everything I was hoping and told myself numerous times "go with the flow", and I'm so thankful I did that considering what the November trip held! :rotfl2:
I wouldn't change a thing about our little ones either! It is PRECIOUS! It sure makes Disney a bit more, uh-well...uh..."adventurous"...but it's memorable and WONDERFUL!
I am LOVING LOVING LOVING your TR! You are hilarious!!!!!!!!! I love your writing style! Very, very entertaining.
And CONGRATULATIONS on your September trip! AKL is fantastic!! I'm not a big zoo person either - the animals at AKL are nice, but not the draw fro me. It's the overal atmosphere like you mentioned, the dark woods, the wonderful scents, the cushy carpeting :goodvibes You and Mr. I will just love staying there I am sure. I cannot recall if I've seen you on the AKL thread or not, but if you haven't found it-let me know and I'll get you hooked up with the AKL nutties. (Hence my tag, "Jambo Wildbunch Gang" it's for an AKL thread) It's got a lot of chit chat, but the people on there are great and will answer any and ALL questions about AKL you've got. Plus pictures often appear of the beautiful lodge to tide us over until our next visits. One gal lives right in Celebration, she is at AKL almost weekly - she has mentioned Shellie (your server from Jiko) several times, to the point where I nodded when I read about how you had fantastic service with her - she has a great reputation!
I really hope to dine at Jiko someday - maybe in December...:scratchin It sounds like such a romantic evening, and much needed for parents of two!
Anyway, I am so sorry about your fall at the airport! Eeek! I do hope your knee gets better. And with Dash being sick - :guilty: I hope he starts to feel better too. I laughed out loud at the part about the CM greeting everyone with a "Hi Princess!" and you praying you wouldn't get her - that is SO ME! :rotfl: I would just be annoyed by that too if I were in the same situation you had been in.
During our trip at the airprot this past time, when we picked up our luggage, we were already on B, and our luggage was RIGHT outside the door, so it was super slick. I have to keep in mind if we ever are on a flight that goes to A to just let ME take care of it!
Your adventures at MK sound great - I hope you are able to take in the parade and Wishes later in the week.
The texting adventure was SO FUNNY! I can just picture it. :rotfl2: And the Dirty Dancing comment, LOVE IT! "Nobody puts Baby in the corner!" My DH totally wouldn't have gotten it either. :rotfl:
Jack-Jack is beyond adorable. I love that pic of him all bundled up. So sweet.
Gosh, that was a long reply - LOL - sorry! I just had so much to comment on - looking forward to more TR!
It was very cool and our private little cubby hole.:) Also it made for easy access to the Mara and the pool. We were in the Giraff trail rooms. I think that was the area. We loved the location.
Looking forward to the next instalment.
YO
I'll definitely look into pool view!! Thanks for the advice! Super excited about staying there!!
Loved your PTR and lovin' your TR. Stayed up waaaaay past my bedtime to catch up. :) Can't wait for your next post.
Thanks and :welcome: !
Update to follow, Jack-Jack willing.
I'm glad I was a help! I really had to mentally prepare before the trip to NOT expect to do everything I was hoping and told myself numerous times "go with the flow", and I'm so thankful I did that considering what the November trip held! :rotfl2:
I wouldn't change a thing about our little ones either! It is PRECIOUS! It sure makes Disney a bit more, uh-well...uh..."adventurous"...but it's memorable and WONDERFUL!
I am LOVING LOVING LOVING your TR! You are hilarious!!!!!!!!! I love your writing style! Very, very entertaining.
And CONGRATULATIONS on your September trip! AKL is fantastic!! I'm not a big zoo person either - the animals at AKL are nice, but not the draw fro me. It's the overal atmosphere like you mentioned, the dark woods, the wonderful scents, the cushy carpeting :goodvibes You and Mr. I will just love staying there I am sure. I cannot recall if I've seen you on the AKL thread or not, but if you haven't found it-let me know and I'll get you hooked up with the AKL nutties. (Hence my tag, "Jambo Wildbunch Gang" it's for an AKL thread) It's got a lot of chit chat, but the people on there are great and will answer any and ALL questions about AKL you've got. Plus pictures often appear of the beautiful lodge to tide us over until our next visits. One gal lives right in Celebration, she is at AKL almost weekly - she has mentioned Shellie (your server from Jiko) several times, to the point where I nodded when I read about how you had fantastic service with her - she has a great reputation!
I really hope to dine at Jiko someday - maybe in December...:scratchin It sounds like such a romantic evening, and much needed for parents of two!
Anyway, I am so sorry about your fall at the airport! Eeek! I do hope your knee gets better. And with Dash being sick - :guilty: I hope he starts to feel better too. I laughed out loud at the part about the CM greeting everyone with a "Hi Princess!" and you praying you wouldn't get her - that is SO ME! :rotfl: I would just be annoyed by that too if I were in the same situation you had been in.
During our trip at the airprot this past time, when we picked up our luggage, we were already on B, and our luggage was RIGHT outside the door, so it was super slick. I have to keep in mind if we ever are on a flight that goes to A to just let ME take care of it!
Your adventures at MK sound great - I hope you are able to take in the parade and Wishes later in the week.
The texting adventure was SO FUNNY! I can just picture it. :rotfl2: And the Dirty Dancing comment, LOVE IT! "Nobody puts Baby in the corner!" My DH totally wouldn't have gotten it either. :rotfl:
Jack-Jack is beyond adorable. I love that pic of him all bundled up. So sweet.
Gosh, that was a long reply - LOL - sorry! I just had so much to comment on - looking forward to more TR!
Brooke!!!!! Seems we were posting at the same time and I missed your post earlier!! I'm so glad you're enjoying the tr and thank you so much for the sweet comments! :flower3:
I'd love a link over to the AKL link. I thought your Jambo Wildbunch Gang was DVC reference. :rolleyes: @ me!
The knee is much better, thanks but the foot still hurts in certain shoes. :confused3 Go figure!
Honestly, the trek from A to B wouldn't have been as bad if we hadn't had a bizzilion pieces of luggage!
Shellie was awesome. We were so lucky to randomly end up in her section. You and Joe should definitely try it out went Henry gets old enough for KidCare or if you end up taking your sister, maybe she could watch him!
Never be sorry for long replies. You can hijack my tr anytime ! :goodvibes
So about that update.... Jack-Jack was NOT willing. He managed to erase a whole lotta post with the banging of some keys, on the side withOUT the backspace and delete key. :confused3 He's either going to be a computer genius or the bane of technology when he grows up. That kid has talent at stopping me from working on my TR when he's awake.
Which brings us to this attempt, cus he's asleep! Finally!
Where was I........... Day 3, Epcot.... It's all coming back to me (nowwwwwwwwwwwwwwww)
We awoke around 8:30 with hopes of being on the bus by 9:30am. :rotfl2: I'm laughing at that plan now but I was foolishly optimistic about getting to Epcot early. We had our second date night planned for Narcoosee's at 6:55pm so I wanted to cover as much of Future World as possible so we could spend our second day in Epcot in WS.
Well, let me preface this by saying I love my MIL but she takes FOREVER to get ready in the morning. Partially because of getting herself beautified and partially because of a medical condition that I will spare y'all the details of. Suffice it to say, she said she needed to get up three hours before we needed to be on the bus. She had asked the night before what time we were supposed to head to the park so all was a-go.
Until I opened the connection door when I woke up at 8:30am to see her still in bed. :scared1: I realized then that we will not be making a bus in an hour. Oh no, more like... in three hours.
I took my time getting dressed, packing the diaper bag, looking at the pictures we had taken the day before on the TV ( I had actually remembered to bring the video cable) Dash had woken up fever free and ready to ride RIDES!! So that was a relief. I gave him his allergy meds just in case, but the loooooooong sleep seemed to have really helped him.
My knee was really swollen and my foot hurt worse than it had the day before. I had to walk funny to not walk on the left side of my left foot which messed up my gait. So I walked funny limping and that caused other parts to hurt that had to make up the difference. Grrrrrrrrr! My MIL insisted on looking at my knee that morning. She had already checked out the foot the day we arrived but I hadn't realized at the time that my knee was screwed up too. I tried to tell her it was no big deal, but she INSISTED! She is a nurse, afterall.
So I had to confess to my very well put together MIL that I hadn't shaved my legs in like FIVE DAYS! :lmao: Sorry if that's too much information for any of you reading, but it goes to the Mortification part of my TR! I literally had 'shave your legs' on my To Do List before we left the house on Wednesday. Didn't happen. I wasn't going to attempt it with a bum foot to prop up my leg in the shower the day before, so I needed to take a sit down bath to accomplish the shaving of the legs and it just hadn't happened yet!
Needless to say I was majorly embarassed to hike my pj leg up to expose my own personal Animal Kingdom Rain Forest that were my legs.
:rolleyes1
I think I can hear crickets chirping....
Anyway......... on with the TR!
Since we were later than normal getting off, we decided to forego breakfast for an early lunch at Sunshine Seasons since I knew we'd have to high tail it to Soarin' for FPs anyway.
At 11:30am we were in line for the Epcot bus and there not much long after. We made our way through bag check, took a few pictures in front of Spaceship Earth while waiting on FGM to get Dash's stroller and off we headed to The Land.
Dash had the whole Spaceship Earth in his hands.
Artsy Fartsy Attempt #2 :rotfl:
Stand-by wait is posted at 70 mins with FP returns between 3-4pm. I can handle that.
Once we make our way up, around and down to the first floor of The Land Pavillion, I park everyone at a table and head over to grab FPs, only to read the sign above the FP area to say return between 7-8pm. :headache:
At this point I have to admit I got a little um :mad:. I tried to reason with myself, and literally sat there talking to myself, reminding myself to go with the flow and to not let deviation from the plan matter. But... but... but... I had already given up Spectro and Wishes the night before, had only ridden FIVE rides in MK the day before. But I dealt with it. I asked my mom and MIL to go ahead and go up to the counter to get their food while Mr. I and I talked about what we wanted to do.
Soarin' is one of my faves, is my MIL's favorite hands down, and one I was most looking forward to Mr. I trying. Mr. I and I discussed cancelling Narcoosee's or maybe pushing it back to a later time, but I had carefully planned our dining time to catch Wishes during dessert. I had already missed Wishes one of the three times I had planned on seeing it this trip and didn't want to miss it again. It is my absolute FAVORITE thing! So we scratched our Future World plans for the day, and decided after lunch we'd head to the WS.
Our lunch consisted of two orders of half chickens, one pork chop, mashed potatoes, rice pilaf, carrots, chinese food for Dash and a turkey and Muenster sandwich. We kinda all passed around and shared each other's food, which is my favorite way to eat. Taste a little bit of everything. The hand's down winner for me was the Turkey and Muenster sandwich but I'm a huge fan of Muenster and I love anything chipotle, so the mayo was a big plus. :thumbsup2
We had one strawberry shortcake and one Key lime pie to split between all of us. (remember this for later... :p )
We headed out of The Land and made our way to Canada. I decided to sooth my crushed OCD self with picture taking, so I happily snapped away and took a chance to take advantage of having a large enough party to get pictures of us as a family.
Sticking our necks out for Canada!
UK was next and the British Invasion was playing. This was right up MIL's ally. Even though she's only 6 years younger than my mom, it's six years that makes the difference in Elvis and the Beatles. :rotfl: Mr. I took advantage of this pause to get Jack-Jack to sleep in his stroller.
Rock on Paul and Ringo.
http://i285.photobucket.com/albums/ll60/myjanboys/DSC00511.jpg
Yet another sleeping baby picture. There will be more to come!
We made our way across the bridge and into France.
http://i285.photobucket.com/albums/ll60/myjanboys/DSC00518.jpg
Artsy Fartsy #3981 I really like this one for some reason.
The line out of the pastry place was looooooooooong but Mr. I decided he wanted something from there. Which surprised me after the lunch we had just had. Maybe it's the Disney Magic that expands your stomach like Mary Poppin's carpet bag because we managed to find room!
We parked FGM and Jack-Jack in the indoor seating area, which was empty... surprising with that long line :confused3 and made our way through the line. We tried a bit of everything it seemed-two eclairs, a napoleon, a lemon tart, a chocolate mousse, a creme brulee and a cream puff. YUM! I've been eating there since before it was made so popular by the guidebooks and it did not disappoint!!
After our lovely sugar rush, we waited for the Impressiones de France (I'm sure I butchered that spelling) which is one of my favorites. I had prepared Jack-Jack a bottle but he was having none of it. He had woken up from his nap, prematurely to the sound of a man clanging the trash can right beside where his stroller had been parked. I don't know if he was cranky or antsy but he wanted down! I wasn't about to let him fuss and ruin everyone else's movie experience so I got up and walked him up to the level area in front of the exit doors. He wanted to crawl and cruise and head down the incline toward the front of the theater. Which I let him do, until he started to squeal! At that point, we quietly slipped out the exit door and explored the shop there until the show ended. I tried not to get :sad2: over missing something that I love. (Anyone know where I can find the soundtrack to that film?! I realize they are all famous French compositions....that I could probably do research on my own and find out but why do that when I can just ask the helpful people of the DIS :disrocks: )
At this point it was close to 4pm and I decided we should start heading back the way we had came. We didn't have time to go around the long way. We strolled through the WS fairly quickly and headed back through Future World. Spaceship Earth was posting 15 mins but I knew as soon as you got through the door you were on it, so it didn't look that long. It ended up being about 7 mins-not too bad. I liked the changes, but Walter Cronkite will always be the rightful narrator in my mind. ::yes::
By the time we got through it was 5pm! Didn't take time to check out our future selves, which bummed me again but I pushed through it! Gotta be flexible!!
(For those of you counting, that's ONE ride we caught the entire day. Not exactly the way I'm used to doing WDW but going with the flow is my new middle name! :rolleyes: )
About this time we got a text from Honey and Frozone that they had arrived at their hotel but were pooped and were going to chill in their room and just meet us for breakfast the next day.
We got to the bus stop and naturally waited for what seemed like forever.
http://i285.photobucket.com/albums/ll60/myjanboys/DSC00521.jpg
The g-ma's with the boys.
By the time we got back to the hotel, it was 6pm. We had 55 mins to make our Narcoosee's reservation. :scared1:
Would we make it!? Would we like it?? Would Honey and Frozone find their way to our hotel from their's? How much difference would two MORE people make to this party of ours?
Stay tuned!!!
Great pics, the sky was soooo blue, it looked like you had great weather. Did it rain at all while you were there?
Before going on vacation, I put shaving on my to do list too!! At home, not so much. :rotfl:
Hi! I'm jumping over from Sare's report! Great report!! Sounds like you had a great dinner at Jiko & I hope you made it to Narcoossees!!! I hope your injuries didn't flair up too bad, falling like that is sooo something I would do!! And I hope Dash didn't end up sicker! We've done sick kids at WDW, it's no fun!
Can't wait to read more!
BTW, congrats on the September AKL trip!
A page from Wikipedia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Impressions_of_France) can help you out a little!
It lists each scene, and tells you what music is played for each scene. About half of it seems to be classical French composers, and about half is original music. I would imagine you could find most of the classical pieces on iTunes or available for download at amazon, but not sure what you could do about the original pieces. :confused3
Good luck!
Thanks!!! :thumbsup2 and :welcome: We did have a Fantastic time at Jiko. Stay tuned tonight (hopefully) for the Narcoosee's update. The injuries didn't get any worse, I managed to limp my way around the world. Sick kids are no fun for sure, but especially on vacation. If you read my PTR, you'll see that Jack-Jack had Scarlet Fever over Christmas and it was touch and go whether we were going to get to go on vacation at all. I was so concerned about Jack-Jack getting sick, I didn't even think about Dash getting sick!! Good thing I packed his medications just in case. I really think it was mostly allergies and him being run down and so tired! He doesn't run fever again the rest of the trip.
When I last left you, we had just returned to Pop and it was 6pm. Our carefully planned Narcoosee's reservation was at 6:55pm. I knew we could make it. We had a mini-van, and we decided dressy jeans were ok after what we had witnessed at Jiko the night before so we only needed to freshen up and head out.
..... BUT.....
the boys were hungry and the moms were tired and I felt really bad about just dumping hungry boys on tired moms so hastily. So I called reservations and moved our dinner to 9pm. If you'll remember correctly the whole reason that we didn't get the FPs for Soarin' was because we wanted to keep the ressie at Narcoosee's. There's some definitely irony there. I was going to miss my second scheduled Wishes viewing anyway. But it was what was best for the boys. We got them bathed, and fed and let the moms take naps, and then we headed to take the bus at 7:50pm. We decided not to drive because Mr. Incredible had never ridden the monorail and I wanted him to get to ride it with me.
We got to the bus stop and debated between Epcot and MK. The lines were short enough we kinda hung out between the two to see which got there first and MK did. The bus driver informed those getting on ahead of us that she wasn't going back to the MK because the park was closed, but she'd take them to the TTC. This was good enough for us, so we hopped on. We did get to see Wishes a bit as we drove toward MK. At TTC, we got in line for the resort-to-resort monorail and waited about 10 mins. When the monorail arrived, we noticed that one of the doors was open, and there were men working on it. As they loaded us, they directed everyone to the compartments back behind the opened doored one because apparently the door wouldn't close! I would have hated to have been on the monorail when the door first stopped working. :scared1: By listening to the conversations in the cabin (are they called cabins??) we were in, we learned that the monorail had been down for a while and judging by the lines of people waiting to board at the Poly and GF it looked like it had been a long while.
We made our way into GF and the first thing I made sure to do was inhale! I remembered that I had loved the smell of the place, and I still did. We found a map and figured out how to get out to Narcoosee's. I didn't stop in Basin because I knew I'd be going to DTD later in the week and didn't want to lug a bag with me into the restaurant. We found the elevator and crossed the lobby out to the side doors toward the pool and the walkway to Narcoosee's. The piano player was playing Edelweiss which is one of my favorite songs. :lovestruc Just one of those happy little coincidences since it really isn't a very popular song. As we walked down the path, it was chilly and I was still limping and walking pretty slowly. I felt bad for Mr. Incredible. He was having to slow his stride down to not leave me in the dust.
About half way there, a luggage cabby guy stopped and asked us where we were headed and we told him and he said hop on! Such a nice man. He asked us if'd we'd been there before and we said no and he said we'd love it, that he went there about five times a year himself. I asked him what was good, and he said that they're known for their seafood but he always orders the steak. We chit-chatted and he dropped us off at the front doors of Narcoosee's in no time. I handed him a few dollars as a tip and he refused, I insisted ....he refused again and it seems we both gave in at the same time, him accepting and me not insisting. It was a bit awkward there for a moment :laughing: , but I finally stuffed the dollars in his hand, patted him on the shoulder and said a good deed needs to be rewarded! I felt quite dorky after that whole exchange but oh well!
We walked into Narcoosee's after standing there pushing and pulling the doors and not being able to get them to open for what seemed like forever. :rolleyes1 We finally make our way into the restaurant and check in about 30 mins early. The host gave us a pager and we made our way up to the little bar. Shortly after we walk around the circle, a group of four gets paged and we grab their chairs and start reading the cocktail list. Just as we were placing our order, our buzzer goes off, so we apologize to the bartender and decide to just wait and order the drinks from our server.
I don't remember our server's name, I want to say Christine but I could be randomly guessing this time. She was ok. I don't think she had a chance after Shellie's performance the night before. We got sour dough bread delivered and she explained about the sea salt. We ordered our drinks- Mr. I the Magical Star complete with glow cube and I the Pomarita. They were both good and strong, serving their purpose I guess. You should have seen Mr. I's face when his drink showed up, looking like the strobe lights over DHS at night. I don't think he quite realized what 'glow cube' meant. :lmao: He quickly dug it out and turned it off!
We ordered Calamari for an app, Mr. I the crab crusted flounder and I the Chef's Recommedation for the night, which was basically Jerk-spiced grilled shrimp with cheese grits and conch. I had never had conch before, but was willing to try it. The shrimp and grits sounded great and after the filet I had at Jiko the night before I really wasn't feeling the Surf N Turf which was what I had been planning on ordering for months!
The calamari was great, I mean using our bread to clean our plate great. We loved the olives, peppers and tomato broth they topped the calamari with! (Not the description that is on Allears!) Mr. I's flounder was good but nothing exceptional. He said it tasted like any other fish dish he's had in restaurants before..... :confused3
I enjoyed my dish, though I ended up giving the conch to Mr. I. It tasted chewy and a bit pasty, which was odd. But I tried it. The shrimp were good but tasted a lot like a dish Mr. I had made at our cafe years ago. It was a complement to Mr. I for sure, but I don't know that it was as big of a complement to Narcoosee's.
We shared one order of the Almond-crusted cheesecake and it was hands down the best part of our entire meal, followed closely by the Calamari. Mr. I enjoyed an espresso and we did catch the Electric Water Parade out our window. I was a bit sad that we hadn't managed to watch Wishes from Narcoosee's, but didn't let it get to me too much. Would Wishes have changed our entire experience? Was it doomed from the beginning because my fireworks bubble had been burst again??
We paid our bill -which ended up being within dollars of the same cost of Jiko. It just didn't measure up to Jiko and I don't know if that is necessarily Narcoosee's fault... It probably didn't have a chance after the near perfect meal we'd had at Jiko the night before. Jiko is just more us, with the warm colors, and soft cushy chairs. Narcoosee's, while beautiful, did feel a bit more formal and ... I hate to say cold... but it was all whites and blues and no lights! Oh my gosh, it was so dark in there. One little votive candle on the table was all the light we had. We might try Narcoosee's again and stick to the Surf N Turf and Lobster that I read so much about here on the Dis and stick to our fireworks viewing plan!!
We limped our way back to the lobby, crossed our way out to the portico and got a taxi. I was tired and my foot/knee hurt. It was late and I didn't feel like heading all the way to DTD to catch a bus back to POP. So we paid the $20 to take a cab back to Pop. It was really cute. The cab driver waited a bit and then turned on Love Songs by Delilah :rotfl2: which I think ever easy listening station plays late on Friday nights. Mr. I and I looked at each other and smirked but embraced the moment at least enough to hold hands on the way back to our hotel.
We made it back in about 15 mins, looked through the gift shop, called the moms to see if they needed anything from grab n go, and headed back to the rooms. The boys were both up and glad to see us. We regaled the moms with our adventures from the night, said our good nights and turned in by 11:30pm. We were..... CONCH'd out in no time!!!! :lmao:
We had a breakfast date at 10:30am with Honey and Frozone, Mr. I's sister and BIL. They were to meet us at Pop for breakfast and then catch the bus with us to DHS!
Do we make it to the park in time to get FPs to TSM? Will Mr. I chicken out on RNRRC? Will *I* finally at the age of 29 ride TOT, after my 6 yr old told me "It wasn't THAT Scary, Mom!" ? :rotfl:
Stay tuned!!!
GREAT updates! Your artsy fartsy shots are really good-very pretty! Sorry that your Wishes plans got cancelled AGAIN. :sad2: I really hope you get to see them at some point! Having plans go straight out the window is not an easy thing to deal with - I know on my November trip I would day dream of our days, and while it very, very, very loosely followed them, pretty much everyday was all upside down and backwards! BUT, it also makes for an excellent reason to go back!
Sounds like a nice date night, despite the average food. At least the company was good, right? :goodvibes
I'm glad to hear your knee is better now, but that is a bummer about the foot still hurting sometimes. Did you have to go to the doctor for it?
I'd love a link over to the AKL link. I thought your Jambo Wildbunch Gang was DVC reference. :rolleyes: @ me!
I didn't go to the doctor though often wonder if I should have! By the time I walked on it for a week, I didn't think there was much they could've done. :confused:
The company was great! I don't think Narcoosee's had a chance with us from the get go. After Jiko, the bar was raised impossibly high.
I kept telling myself after every botched plan that it was just another reason to go back with Mr. I! By the end of the trip he was even saying the things that were left undone would, if nothing else, leave him wanting more!! :lovestruc The one plan that got undone that got me the most was missing Wishes! You'll have to wait and see if we get to see it or not!! :rolleyes1
Love the trip report so far.
Thanks !!! and :welcome:
Great updates and pics. Your artsy fartsy ones are pretty good too!
Our anni is in Sept also. However this year I opted to celebrate with my BFF. It is her b-day at the end of Sept.
I love AKL. This is where DH and I will be staying next time. I haven't eaten at Jiko. Boma is wonderful.
I'm sorry your ride plans aren't going to well. I hope that it gets better.
Needless to say Jack-Jack did not stay asleep yesterday so let's try this again!
Day 4-Part 1: TMI, CSI and NOT the pretty one!
The day started with yet another tale of mortification but I must warn those that have issues with ummmm "too much information" .... you should skip this section of the post. I seriously debated not putting this part in the TR and I promise I'll keep it as pc and cryptic as I can whilst maintaining all the horror and mortification.
Stop reading a the first **************** and skip to the next *************** to resume safe, not too much information reading of this TR... FINAL WARNING!:
************************************************
During our first Magic Kingdom Day I received a lovely visit from the "You are Not Going to Be Adding to Your Family Any Time Soon" Fairy! Apparently, that fairy loves Disneyworld, too. No big deal as I was prepared for her arrival. Until the morning that this story begins, Day 4 Disney Hollywood Studios Day, that is.
I guess because I was walking more than normal and was taking Ibuprofen for my foot and knee, the fairy was realllllllllllly making her presence known. I awake, make my way over to Dash's bed, and for whatever reason I sat on the edge of the bed before going to the restroom, which is what I should have done first anyway. :headache: Apparently I left evidence on the sheets as to my predicament unknowingly. I emerge from the restroom to find that my MIL and mother have joined us from the connecting room. Apparently, Dash had found said evidence on the white sheet and was concerned enough to call the g-ma's over. I have no idea where Mr. I was at this time, probably getting Jack-Jack dressed and was in his own little world.
My MIL :scared1: is trying to explain to him what the spot was from. Dash is convinced he had left it there during his sleep and that perhaps, he suggests helpfully, had a bloody nose. He had called my mother and mother in law in the room to help him solve this mystery! It should be said that I have my degree in criminology and Dash has been watching crime shows with me since he was little. He's all about them! So what does my crime fighting 6 year old do?
He proceeds to go all CSI on me and INSPECT said evidence by getting his lil eyeball as close as possible. HE THEN gets his POC telescope lens out and attempts to look at the evidence through it. And THEN .... HE LEANED OVER AND SNIFFED IT! :faint:
I felt like I was watching all of this in slow-mo. I was beyond horrified. It would have been bad enough had it happened in front of Mr. I and my own mother.... but my MOTHER IN LAW!!!??? :scared:
I wanted the floor to open up and swallow me whole. I quickly recover enough to attempt to flip the comforter back up to hide any CSI inspection worthy stain, all the while assuring Dash that it will be ok and that he's not going to die from some horrible Bleeding of the Nose Dengue Fever disease!
:faint: :faint: :faint:
And that concludes the TMI portion of this TR!
**************************************************
Ok it is safe now for those that felt it too dangerous to read and for those that didn't skip it, I warned ya!
And now for the rest of the story....
We get up, get dressed and head to the food court for breakfast... at 9:30am. I should have read the Pop information channel before this day and we could have slept an extra 30 mins because what they say is true about eating before 8am or after 10am to avoid the crowds. Whoa Nelly it was busy in there! :crowded: We scope out a booth and wait patiently and not too obtrusively for the nice couple to exit and claim our spot.
The couple behind us are eating their breakfast, about half way done, and we need their booth too as Honey and Frozone were going to be joining us for breakfast (or so I thought at the time). I very nicely ask them if they could let me know at the adjacent booth when they are about to get up so we can grab their booth before someone else can, and I was sure to explain that there was NO rush as our party was not even there yet. I did not want them to feel we were poaching their table and I believe they didn't feel rushed at all. :) That's my sincere hope at least. We ordered our breakfast in shifts and the other booth became available in plenty of time. As we are eating our breakfast, I am told by my MIL that Honey and Frozone had already eaten breakfast at their hotel because Honey has to stay on a strict eating schedule for medical reasons.
Hmmmm. No biggie, I just wish I had known so we could have eaten earlier... not asked the poor people in the next booth to let us know when they were done, etc. But remember-my new middle name is Going with the Flow!
Quickly enough we are finished...and I was pleasantly surprised by the food -waffle (I shared with Dash) and cinnamon roll for breakfast... only on VACATION! :thumbsup2
We wait in the lobby for Honey and Frozone. Mary Poppins had to return to the room because she couldn't find her cell phone. Soon enough Honey and Frozone arrive! They stayed at AsMo and drove over to ride the bus with us. We get a chance to visit with them a little bit before we have to catch the bus. Mary Poppins returns with her found cell phone and we proceed to the bus line. Didn't have to wait too long and we are there in no time since Pop is so close to DHS. We all make our way through the turnstiles and FGM heads to get Dash's stroller.
About this time I hear a CM with a clipboard approach Honey, who is standing a mere foot away from me, say " You're the pretty one... I'll ask you." :eek: I admit I probably had a funny look on my face, though I don't think the poor man realized he was implying *I* wasn't the pretty one! :lmao:
Now I'm not one to get my panties in a bunch so it wasn't a big deal, but I did hang around long enough to hear what he had to say to my pretty SIL. He started to ask her to answer some survey questions... and God help me, before I could stop myself, I popped off...
"See, sometimes it pays to NOT be the pretty one!" :rotfl:
The look on the poor CM's face, when I said that, was priceless. It was as if it had just dawned on him how it sounded to MY ears and he looked a bit speechless for a second. I knew this was all in good fun, and hopefully he did too because he recovered quickly enough to pop back
"Haven't been out of Kansas very long have ya?"
To which I quipped back... "It can never be long enough...." and I walked toward the stroller pick up spot to meet FGM.
He tried to stop me, asking me to "Wait a minute..."
To which I replied... "Oh no! You picked your pretty one... go ahead!" :rotfl2:
I was quite amused with the whole exchange, as was my oh-so-flattered SIL, Honey and I sincerely hope as was the CM!
We get our party all together and start to proceed down Hollywood Blvd. only to be stopped by this:
http://i285.photobucket.com/albums/ll60/myjanboys/DSC00526.jpg
So we stand and wait to watch their antics. Now remember, Mr. Incredible is 6'5" so he's pretty tall and was easily a head above the crowd waiting for the car to pass. The lady in the hat looked straight at Mr. Incredible and mouthed "I love you!" as they drove past. Was freaking hillarious... I don't think Mr. Incredible quite knew what to make of it, but I was cracking up.:rotfl: The day was off to a great start!!!
We had reservations at Brown Derby for 8 at 1:15pm and it was around 11:30am at this point. I checked the boards but TSM wasn't listed for FPs so we walked the fairly short distance to check to see if there were any FPs left and there WEREN'T! But I was prepared this time and did not get sullen over it! Going with the FLOW! The standby wait was 70 mins and honestly if it had just been me and Mr. I, we probably would have waited but I felt like it was too much to ask of my in-laws who aren't huge ride people anyway, and it was a really long time to have Jack-Jack out of his stroller so..... we skipped it. :scared1: Another reason to return in September!
We made our way down to the RnRC and ToT area and got FPs for ToT with everyone's tickets, even though the mom's weren't going to be riding, and then Frozone, Mr. I and myself headed to the single rider line of RnRC! Honey has vertigo and didn't want to ride and risk ruining the rest of her day, so she shopped in the area, while the mom's sat with the boys. I wanted to ride it first before I decided if Dash could ride it. I had only ridden RnRC once in the past and wanted to refresh myself before I made that decision. Single rider probably took about 15 mins and we were off, 5 riders per batch of FP and stand by riders.
Remember that Mr. I had not ridden a roller coaster prior to this trip and his first one was BTMRR, pretty tame imho! So he was getting his fet wet pretty fast jumping to RnRC so quickly in his short little roller coaster riding experiences. I really wanted to be able to sit by him on his first ride, but again, felt I couldn't ask everyone to wait so long and I didn't want to spend too much time walking from one side of the park to the other, wandering aimlessly with 8 people! It's one thing to grab FPs and then head to another area when it's just a few people... but not with 8 people. And our FPs for ToT were up in about 30 mins so no point in leaving that area when we could get FPs for ToT or RnRC as soon as the first FP window closed!
I loved the ride more this time than my first ride in '07. The last time I rode it the music didn't play and it lost something without that added element. This time it... pun intended ...... ROCKED! :goodvibes I loved it! I rode first and Frozone and Mr. I were on the next limo. There was a delay due to unloading and loading I'm guessing, so I barely caught the photo for the limo AFTER mine before they went off the screen. I should have bought that picture because Mr. Incredible's expression was priceless. He's so tall and his arms are so long and he couldn't hold onto the handles, so his arms were crossed across his chest like a mummy! His eyes were squinted closed and he looked like he just wanted it to be over with! :rotfl2: Imagine my surprise when he was willing to get FPs to ride it again later! Frozone said he liked it but wouldn't ride it again. He said it was intense and a bit more thrilling than he expected!
I decided after Dash's reaction to BTMR, clinging to me and saying it was too fast... even though he warmed up by the second ride, I felt it best for him to skip this ride for now. He said he likes slow roller coasters and didn't like Space Mountain because it was dark and he was scared he'd fall out, so Dash will have to catch RnRC when he's a little older. He was fine with my recommendation and was fired up to take me on ToT!
Pictures we took between RnRC and ToT:
Stay tuned and thanks for reading!!!
:thumbsup2 Thanks!! Just goes to show you that reality comes crashing in even in Disney World. DHS was a great day!!! For sure!! I love a good thrill ride too... AT DISNEYWORLD! Oddly I don't really enjoy thrill rides at other theme parks. I love Disney's thrill rides because they are the whole package, themed to perfection. At say Six Flags, they are just thrills for the sake of thrills.
Thanks for reading! :goodvibes
LOL! His fly isn't down, but it is unsnapped. Those pants were weird. They have a snap at the waist and the one buttonfly/snap thing for a zipper and that's it! Anyway, I didn't even notice!
What's even funnier in an ironic way is what Honey bought for Dash for his birthday present. I'll post in on Day 5's update when it gets here!
I love that pic of him trying to walk. He really just started walking with holding hands right before we went on the trip and we were encouraging it because we knew he couldn't get down and crawl many places and we wanted him to be able to get out of his stroller some!
He has really started walking this week though! He's getting very adventurous, finally getting more than just a few steps before dropping to all fours! :lovestruc
We're definitely in the same boat with the sad business!!! I try not to think about it and just enjoy it. I have a sign hanging in my kitchen that says "Enjoy this moment for this moment is your life." I keep it there to remind me to not overlook the enjoyment of the moment worrying about how quickly it will pass.
I'm sure you know exactly what I mean! :hug:
Thanks !! and :welcome: :lmao: @ National Lampoons. Yeah I guess in a way it was kinda crazy. Everytime something happened I would think.... well at least it'll make for a decent TR! :laughing:
Walking? He's walking? Wow!
Walking is such a hard milestone to define, it's not like teeth that suddenly appear. :jumping1: (those were the only toothy smilies I could find :rotfl: )So he's working on walking. He's getting more confident about letting go of stuff and he's learning to get up on his feet from all fours, and he's walked probably about 10 steps at one time before going back to crawling. Is that walking yet ? ? :confused3 I really don't know! :rolleyes:
Gonna try to do a lonnnnnnnnnnng update tomorrow night!
I just got started on the first page but will be back to read more. Sorry that Dash wasn't feeling well :guilty:
I'm glad to see I wasn't the only one who had a stroller for an older child. Sometimes I looked at my almost 7 yo and thought he is way to big to be pushed around but he wouldn't have made it on his own power that far for that long!
Looking forward to catching up!
:welcome: The going with the flow lesson will probably always be a work in progress for me. I'm sure I'll have our next trip planned out to the detail too. But for me, the planning is a lot of my fun and as long as I can get over myself when things deviate off plan, then I'll probably continue to plan everything so much ! ;)
Honestly, I hadn't even thought about getting Dash a stroller until the first day when he was feeling so rotten. I'm glad we went ahead and paid for the length of stay rental because even after he was feeling better it was so much easier to push him then worry about keeping a hand on him at all times, and he didn't complain with leg aches. I think he could have kept up, considering we were operating on grandma and limpy me speed, but he would have been really exhausted by the end of the trip! I don't know what I'm gonna do when he outgrows the strollers! I saw a few parents with double strollers rented for one child so they had more room! :rotfl: And I'd do it too, cept Dash is gonna outgrow it length wise soon too! He's a big kid!
Thanks for reading!
Sorry for the delay in update everyone. The boys have been sick! :sick: I think it's just a cold and seasonal allergies but it's been difficult to find time to get online! I'm sitting down right now and writing at least something out, though it may not be as long as originally planned.
:scared1: Let's hope that the third time really is the charm because this will be the third time I attempt to write this update! The first time, as I posted, internet explorer froze and I lost it and then this afternoon Jack-Jack grabbed the mouse and the browser went back a few pages and poof there it went again!
So here goes nothing!
We made our way out of the Aerosmith shop to meet back up with the g-ma's. We grabbed Honey and Dash and headed toward ToT. In all my years of going to Disney World I've always been to chicken to ride this ride. After Dash assured me that it wasn't that scary, I decided I couldn't let my six year old show me up and off we went!
I loved, loved, loved it! :lovestruc :worship: :banana: :cool1: :love: :yay:
I cannot believe I wasted so many opportunities to ride this ride over the years!!! Can't wait to ride it again in September! Dash clung to me pretty tightly through this one, but survived happy that I rode it with him. Honey and Frozone weren't as enamored as I was with ToT. They declined to ride it again. Mr. Incredible enjoyed it nearly as much as I did, so we kept the remaining two FPs we had from using the g-ma's tickets, to ride it again later!
We met back up with the g-ma's and Jack-Jack and decided to split off for a bit. We had a 1:15pm reservation for all of us at Brown Derby so we agreed to meet back up there. We only had about 30 mins til then so Mr. Incredible and I took Jack-Jack to the baby center for a quick change and to have a chance to talk just the two of us about how we thought it was going as such a big group! (Our conclusion was so far, so good! :thumbsup2)
Mary Poppins, Honey and Frozone hit the villain store and FGM and Dash shopped for FGM a hat as it was definitely getting sunnier! Mr. Incredible and I ran into Dash and FGM on our way back to BD and I bought Dash a pair of PoC sunglasses that you'll see in photos later on! It was definitely warming up... the weather was brilliant. We had our jackets stuffed underneath Jack-Jack's stroller! Thank God for that stroller!
We arrived at BD right at 1:15pm to find Honey, Frozone and Mary Poppins waiting on a bench. I checked us in and we were asked to wait in the lobby for a few minutes.
http://i285.photobucket.com/albums/ll60/myjanboys/DSC00536.jpg
Honey and Frozone waiting patiently!
We were called to our table in no time! Moses, from Kenya, was our server and he was great. We all loved his accent, especially Honey. She claims she's always a sucker for a man with an accent! Jack-Jack got fussy so I had to go feed him after I ordered. He took what felt like forever to fall asleep. To anyone wondering what someone was taking so long doing in that stall in the ladies restroom on Saturday, January the 24th.... Sorry!!! :rotfl:
I returned to find my food waiting. Thankfully, I had ordered the BBQ chicken and romaine green goddess salad so it didn't matter if it wasn't warm. Mr. I cut up my chicken for me so I could eat one handed. :lovestruc
http://i285.photobucket.com/albums/ll60/myjanboys/DSC00538.jpg
Fuzzy but you get the idea. He was OUT!
Moses knew it was the boys' birthdays. He brought out two little chocolate mousse cake things all decorated, as well as the assortment of desserts we ordered to share amongst all of us!
http://i285.photobucket.com/albums/ll60/myjanboys/DSC00547.jpg
Dash blowing out his candle! He was very impressed with the edible decorations, though decided they didn't taste very good.
http://i285.photobucket.com/albums/ll60/myjanboys/DSC00548.jpg
FGM took this pic of me blowing out the candle for Jack-Jack, took one look at the picture, died laughing and said... um I think we should take another one!
This makes the second picture I have of myself with my mouth wide open! I guess it's a normal expression for me between talking, laughing, eating and blowing out candles! :laughing:
http://i285.photobucket.com/albums/ll60/myjanboys/DSC00549.jpg
Second attempt :lmao:
The desserts won the award for best food at BD. My salad was good, not great and everyone else but FGM ordered the Cobb. They were happy with it but none felt it was as special as they thought it would be. FGM ordered the braised short rib appy for her meal. After listening to us rave about the short ribs at Jiko, her curiousity was definitely piqued and she had high praise for her dish.
The desserts were really great though! :thumbsup2 We ordered one flourless chocolate cake, one creme brulee, one grapefruit cake, and one banana toffee tower thing and eight spoons! We all had our favorites but I think the banana dessert won!! Yum!
Moses offered to take a picture of all us, which was really great of him. This is the only pic we got of all of us together!
Our nearly-Grand Gathering! You can see the yet to be eaten desserts at the far end of the table.
We left satisfied but I doubt we'll return next trip, especially since we'll be on the DDP with free dining. To us, BD isn't worth the two credits... especially when you put Jiko on the same two credit list! No comparison for us!
Where would we head next? Would we ride anything else? Will we manage to stay together? Will we make our dinner reservation at 'Ohana? Will my plans to watch Wishes from the Poly beach work out or will I miss Wishes yet AGAIN?! :eek:
Stay tuned!!!
Yayyyyy an update! You really should consider writing your updates in Word or something and saving them :rolleyes: just to protect them from Jack-Jack and your vicious IE!
i still love the pic of you with your mouth wide open hehe.
Jack-Jack looks so sweet an' innocent when he's sleeping :)
i'm glad you loved ToT, i didn't know you hadn't been on it before! :eek: At least you had Dash to cling to :goodvibes
Just read your whole report! Wow, and I thought I was wordy - I love it!!! Let me just say, you are waaaaaay more patient than I am. When we went with DH's whole family, and we were the ones who made all the plans, we did NOT respond well when plans got changed. Or people slept in late. Or people complained. So good for you for "going with the flow." :thumbsup2 Speaking of which (yes, I HAD to go there!), I loved the CSI TMI part! I was laughing out loud just picturing Dash doing what my DD would do too!!!! Yes, TMI, but so funny!
Thanks Kara and :welcome: !!! I'm definitely wordy! You should hear me talk! Poor Dash didn't have a chance when he started school. He gets Chatty ChooChoo cards pulled all the time! He gets it honest at least!
I did intially get all het up over the deviation in plans, but honestly, I had to accept that was part of the whole gig, bringing along so many people. I'm really looking forward to all the possibilities that a two person only trip will provide in September!!
The CSI TMI cracks me up now, but man I was NOT laughing then. I seriously wanted to curl up and die! :rotfl: Time heals all wounds I suppose!
I saw that you're in Jacksonville! That's where Mr. I was living when we met.... we met in an online trivia chat room. :rolleyes: There needs to be a dork smilie that I could put here. :laughing: I spent many a long weekend in Jacksonville when we were dating. It has a special place in my heart! I dreamed of moving there, and being much closer to Disney but it worked out better that Mr. I moved to Texas instead. When we go visit his family, we have to fly into Jacksonville. It's the closest airport to where Mary Poppins lives in GA.
I know I should write it in word, it just doesn't feel the same. Bad flash backs of writing papers for school! :rotfl2: I figured out to put photo bucket in a different window instead of just a new tab and that way if photobucket had to close, it wouldn't close my work. AND I copied it to the clipboard a few times! Go me for getting it posted!
He is sweet and innocent! :lovestruc For at least a few more months at least! :scared1:
Yup my first time! Dash and Mr. I. sandwiched me on either side! I'm surprised I actually lifted off my seat with the drops, cus they had me pinned down pretty good! ;)
Fabulous update!
It's hard to believe that Brown Derby wasn't that great. Seems like everybody raves about it and the Cobb salad. I've never eaten here. There are so many great places that only use 1 TS, I don't know that I ever will.
Kudos to you for trying RnRC. DH and I loved it too! I've always been a coaster conqueror though. ToT is what I had trouble with. We ended up riding it 3 times.
I can't wait to hear about Ohana and the fireworks.
We're definitely in the same boat with the sad business!!! I try not to think about it and just enjoy it. I have a sign hanging in my kitchen that says "Enjoy this moment for this moment is your life." I keep it there to remind me to not overlook the enjoyment of the moment worrying about how quickly it will pass.
I'm sure you know exactly what I mean! :hug:
I know EXACTLY what you mean! I love that saying..."Enjoy this moment for this moment is your life." I think I might steal that for my "life motto". It's such a good reminder. Esp when your 18 month old is screamig while you are on a conference call with a Client for work. :rolleyes1 ;)
Sorry for the delay in update everyone. The boys have been sick! :sick: I think it's just a cold and seasonal allergies but it's been difficult to find time to get online! I'm sitting down right now and writing at least something out, though it may not be as long as originally planned.
Thanks for hanging in there! :upsidedow
Edit!!!:I just typed out a huge update and internet explorer crashed and I lost it all!!! :sad2: And now it's time to go to bed! I'm so sorry!! I'll write it out again tomorrow in word and post it tomorrow while Dash is in school and Jack_Jack is napping!
Oh no! I'm so sorry to hear the boys have been sick! :sad2: Henry came down with some mild croup, but last night HE SLEPT THE WHOLE NIGHT!!!!!! :dance3: :dance3: :dance3:
I hope your little men are feeling better!
:scared1: Let's hope that the third time really is the charm because this will be the third time I attempt to write this update! The first time, as I posted, internet explorer froze and I lost it and then this afternoon Jack-Jack grabbed the mouse and the browser went back a few pages and poof there it went again!
And :headache: about loosing the TR TWICE! I write mine in Google Word and then paste into the DIS. But, I only do that because I can write during free moments at work, or when I need a "brain break" from work. But I understand your paper-writing phobia! :rotfl:
Great update! I have heard wonderful things of BD - I really want to try it. But, I have heard more than just your review, that people don't think it's worth 2 TS. We are going OOP, so that doesn't affect us quite as much...but we'll see if it makes the cut for December.
I would have a hard time deciding between the banana dessert and the grapefruit cake. Maybe we'll do a variety and try 'em all too! YUM!
I love the pic of Jack-Jack sleeping on you. :cloud9: Henry doesn't do that too often anymore, just when he's feeling sick. :guilty:
And how do people always manage to get "those shots"? The ones with with a crazy look on your face, or your mouth wide open?! :laughing:
Also, glad to hear you loved RnRC!!!!!
I'm super eager to hear if you ever were able to catch Wishes!!!! I hope so!
I was really surprised too but then again maybe we just didn't order the right thing. It can happen! I'm not saying we'd never return, just not on the DDP. I agree about there being so many great places that are just 1TS. That part of the planning will be uber fun for me-trying to get the most out of our credits and trying to not upgrade to Deluxe!
I actually did do RnRC once before this trip! and I loved it much more this time because the music was actually working! It's no fun without it!
TOT was a first for me this time! I was a big chicken before, not because of the theming but because I didn't think I liked drops. I did one at Six Flags once where you could see while you were falling and NO THANK YOU! But the fact that on TOT you can't really see as you are falling, just can see out at the top, helped a lot and made a believer out of me!
Stay tuned for 'Ohana-y goodness... or badness?? Hmmmmmmmmmmmm :rolleyes1
I know EXACTLY what you mean! I love that saying..."Enjoy this moment for this moment is your life." I think I might steal that for my "life motto". It's such a good reminder. Esp when your 18 month old is screamig while you are on a conference call with a Client for work. :rolleyes1 ;)
I stare at my sign many times throughout the day. Thankfully no conference calls to deal with from home but I did type an entire research one handed because Jack-Jack decided that he would cut his first tooth the night before a major term paper was due. Boy did I stare at the sign THAT night! :rolleyes:
Oh no! I'm so sorry to hear the boys have been sick! :sad2: Henry came down with some mild croup, but last night HE SLEPT THE WHOLE NIGHT!!!!!! :dance3: :dance3: :dance3:
Dash missed school Monday but went back Tuesday. He's still got a cough but declined his allergy medicine this morning and I let him... I figured he knew his body better than I did. One huge perk as they get older! They can tell you how they are feeling and help you know when they are getting better!
Jack-Jack's got a runny nose and a bit of a cough. (Dash had it first... but so far I haven't gotten it. We need a knock on wood smilie!) He isn't running fever, though, and it hasn't affected his mood any so I'm thinking it's just a mild cold he's fending off on his own!
YAY for Henry sleeping the whole night! Jack-Jack doesn't even do that when he's feeling well! I'm super glad that Henry is better!! Nothing worse than a sick kid!
And :headache: about loosing the TR TWICE! I write mine in Google Word and then paste into the DIS. But, I only do that because I can write during free moments at work, or when I need a "brain break" from work. But I understand your paper-writing phobia! :rotfl:
I just don't feel as trip-reporty writing in word. The juices don't flow. :idea: I never said I was anything but weird! :rotfl2:
Great update! I have heard wonderful things of BD - I really want to try it. But, I have heard more than just your review, that people don't think it's worth 2 TS. We are going OOP, so that doesn't affect us quite as much...but we'll see if it makes the cut for December.
OOP would be a definite good plan for BD. When I was running the numbers v. DDP credits over and over before we had to decide on our package, I had BD as one of our OOP meals. When you can use 1TS for breakfast at Kona or 1TS for dinner at Tutto Italia... 40$ v. 120$ :confused3 Gotta play the system!
I would have a hard time deciding between the banana dessert and the grapefruit cake. Maybe we'll do a variety and try 'em all too! YUM!
Do both! They were soooooooooo good! The chocolate flourless cake was good but not what I'm used to with chocolate flourless cake. It was cold and therefore dense. I've had them before at other restaurants (and Mr. I made it for me one year for my birthday :lovestruc ) where they heat it which makes it run all ooey-gooey. MMMMMMM that way is wonderful! *insert mouth watering smilie here*
I love the pic of Jack-Jack sleeping on you. :cloud9: Henry doesn't do that too often anymore, just when he's feeling sick. :guilty:
Awwww... at least he still does it when he feels sick. Dash won't do it at all now. He's a 'big boy' he informs me!
And how do people always manage to get "those shots"? The ones with with a crazy look on your face, or your mouth wide open?! :laughing:
I have no clue!!! But the law of averages, at least when it comes to me, says that I'm gonna end up with pictures of me with my mouth open because it's open so much! :rotfl:
Also, glad to hear you loved RnRC!!!!!
I'm super eager to hear if you ever were able to catch Wishes!!!! I hope so!
OOOO an Update within a few days! What on earth has the world come to?!
:lmao:
I last left you as we were finishing up at Brown Derby and were about to decide what to do. Jack-Jack had woken up by the end of the meal... actually I think when I stood up and then sat back down in the loooooooow chairs in the lobby and then attempted to stand back up again with him... I think that woke him up.I say attempted because I didn't quite manage to get out of the chair without some help! :rotfl:
We decided since we were so close to Great Movie Ride we'd head that way. I don't think Mr. Incredible or I were wanting to ride TOT or RnRC again on full stomachs. We're daring but not that daring. :crazy2: So all of us went to ride Great Movie Ride. I know this ride gets some slack from some DISers and I understand why. But I still love it. I remember being so enthralled with it when I first went to MGM ( :eek: there I said it-M G M!) in 1990. My mom really loves this one too because -her words not mine-she's old enough to remember a lot of the older movies.
Jack-Jack had fun going from one person to the other as we waited in line. Thankfully the line was short enough that we were able to walk right into the movie screen holding area. I don't know how people hold infants while standing in looooooong lines. He got heavy! :scared:
We enjoyed the ride. Jack-Jack spent more time flirting with the lady sitting on the same row as us, as he did paying much attention to the ride. I was anxious to see how he would do. I was prepared to cover his eyes and distract him at the Alien part but he didn't even notice. Interesting enough, this was the first time in all my Great Movie rides that we had a cowboy bandit and not a gangster bad guy. :confused3
When we were done with the ride, we stopped to discuss our plans. It was about 3pm at this point... the block party was going on is how I remember.... and Honey and Frozone were getting tired. They aren't big ride people anyway, and I had promised Dash we'd head to Star Tours at least. So they opted to head back to the hotel for a bit, knowing that we had dinner plans at 8:50pm that night. Mary Poppins decided to stay with us so we split up... to head to bathrooms by the animation studio. FGM and I headed with Dash and left Mr. Incredible and Jack-Jack on a bench in front of Voyage of the Little Mermaid. It was at this point that I realized I had something white and grimey looking all over my black tshirt. :scared1: Why no one told me I have no clue and I really don't know what it was! But it looked nasttttttttty! Wonderful. I tried to get it off with a wet towel as best I could. Don't know how sucessful I was but oh well.
We met back up with our bench warmers to discuss what to do next. We seriously considered catching Little Mermaid but I knew I'd probably be the only one that really wanted to see it. Mr. Incredible just isn't a mermaid kinda guy ... he prefers legs on his women... and I didn't know how Jack-Jack would do in a dark, sitting down kinda place. He tends to want to eat and and pass out.. which would be fine except he still wants to use ME to eat. I was trying to wean him this whole trip but EVERYTIME we sat down in a dark room he wanted nothing but the momma. And the momma has problems with popping the goods out in a crowded room full of people! So we skipped Little Mermaid.
We walked toward Pixar place ... and who do we pass? ? ?
Honey and Frozone!
They had made an entire loop around DHS in just the time it took us to potty and make our minds up! They didn't ride anything... just explored and they were off again. We waved and catcalled at each other and then went on our merry way. TSM was at 90 mins standby so we looked around the area and sighed wistfully as we walked past. NEXT time!
We happened along this guy signing autographs and stopped for a quick pic:
http://i285.photobucket.com/albums/ll60/myjanboys/DSC00553.jpg
Didn't realize Dash's eyes were all squinty when I cked the display on the camera... oh well! :rolleyes1
We walked around the long way. The back of DHS was EMPTY! We found these guys on our way up New York Street:
http://i285.photobucket.com/albums/ll60/myjanboys/DSC00556.jpg
You can kinda see them... mulch something and shears? I think.
We stopped to listen for a bit and the g-ma's had fun trying to get Jack-Jack to dance.
http://i285.photobucket.com/albums/ll60/myjanboys/DSC00559.jpg
Hillarious! What g-ma's won't do for their grandkids!
http://i285.photobucket.com/albums/ll60/myjanboys/DSC00558.jpg
Jack-Jack was not that impressed.... I think he thought they were silly!
http://i285.photobucket.com/albums/ll60/myjanboys/DSC00557.jpg
Mom! Help me!
We stayed til they finished... they were really good! These kind of impromptu things are what makes Disney so great when you actually have time to slow down... or are forced to slow down because you have two gimpy limps! And by two gimpy limps I'm referring to my airport injuries not the g-ma's! :rotfl2:
We cut through the short cut to the Muppet area to find a 5 mins wait for the show! No line at all, we could walk straight into the holding area! We jumped on that!
http://i285.photobucket.com/albums/ll60/myjanboys/DSC00564.jpg
I love how they play together even being 5 years apart! I know I better enjoy it now cus it won't be that way forever!
The boys enjoying the pre-film....and the glasses... and the floor. We never sit on the floor when it's full in there but it was E M P T Y.
And thankfully so because Jack-Jack decided he wanted DOWN in the middle of the 3-D show. And he wanted to cruise down the empty row of chairs to the exit. I had to pick him up and stand over by the exit doors to make it through this one. :laughing: It's not the same without the 3-D glasses, I found out. :rolleyes:
After the film we snapped some more pictures in the area.
http://i285.photobucket.com/albums/ll60/myjanboys/DSC00565.jpg
Dash requested this one and climbed up there all by himself.
http://i285.photobucket.com/albums/ll60/myjanboys/DSC00566-1.jpg
I have a similar picture to this with just Dash and FGM from our trip in 2007.
We made our way back around to get the strollers and the line was OUT THE DOOR ! Maybe because they were holding it for another show to let out or something... I don't know but it was amazing the difference 20 mins made.
We grabbed strollers and headed to Star Tours. We left Jack-Jack with the g-ma's and Mr. I and I rode this with Dash stand-by. Maybe a 15 mins wait, so not too bad. They still had FPs available but we didn't have a lot else to cover in the time we'd be waiting for the FP window to open up that wasn't clear across the park. So we waited. Dash loved this one! He wanted a Clone costume and we had agreed he could have one. Other then spending $10 on a sword, knife and telescope at PoC he hadn't gotten any souvies and it was his birthday present too so I was fine with him getting the costume. They just didn't have his size! Oh my he was inconsolable! I offered him tons of other things in the Star Wars store, from the Indiana Jones cart, and NOTHING would do. He wanted that Clone costume. Poor guy! If they had had the next size up from his size, we would have gotten it but they had XS and XL. I felt so bad for the kid.
We found the g-ma's and Jack-Jack in Backlot Express. They were feeding him a burger and chocolate pudding. I should have taken a picture of his face. Oh my! I think I didn't want evidence that I let my 12 mth old eat that much pudding! :laughing: I asked my mom if she could find her way to the ToT and RnRC area by herself and she said sure, no problem! :hug: Mom! So we left the boys with g-ma and Mr. I and I headed to use up our fast passes!
(I think I failed to mention that we got FPs for RnRC after we got off of TOT the first time )
We had a blast! :love: We held hands, checked out a few shops, rode RnRC first... barely waited at all to get in. A little girl and her mom and aunt were in front of us and were asking if we'd ridden it before. The mom was scared! So I was telling them how much fun it is and worse case how fast it's over with! It seemed to help her a little!
It was great for Mr. Incredible and I to be able to ride it together this time since we'd had to split up on single rider the first time!
TOT was next and it was getting dusky dark. I knew what that meant but didn't say anything to Mr. I in case he hadn't put two and two together. Sure enough the view over the park at the top was SPEC TAC U LAR! OMGoodness! :cloud9: Sunset was gorgeous -the park lights had came on! It was a perfect ending to what had been so far our best day in the park! :love:
We came back down to earth... literally... and met up with the g-ma's and boys. They were waiting for us where we'd left them before. :yay: for my 66 yr old Mom getting around the park all by herself. I knew she could do it but she's expressed concern before so I didn't want to push her!
We strolled out of the park toward the exit. I have to admit this was the first time I had ever been sad to leave DHS. It has a new special place in my heart and I can't wait to go back and give it more time, to soak up more of the details I've apparently overlooked in the past! From the CM antics at the beginning of the day to the actors on Hollywood Blvd., the music acts on the back streets and my new found love of TOT-DHS is a new old favorite!
I was worried the lines would be bad for the bus because it was 30 mins before park close, but they weren't. We were maybe 10th in line and the bus came in no time.
Whew!! We'd almost managed to close down a park and we had a hot little date with 'Ohana and Wishes from the Poly Beach!
Stay tuned!!!
'Ohana manana I hope!
I totally agree! I fall a bit more in love with DHS every time I"m there. It's a great park to just sit back and WATCH for a few minutes.
'Ohana manana I hope!
Great update! Looking forward to Ohana and Wishes! And why is it that people let you walk around with yuck on you? That seems to happen to me all the time? Maybe I'm just a slob and they've given up on me.... but I digress. Hope whatever it was came out in the wash.
And if ever there were a place to "pop out the goods" and have nobody notice? A dark theater in Disney. I'm sure nobody would care at all - how many moms are there? How many moms who are or have nursed their kids? I wouldn't recommend it at, say, the parade route... or while riding TSM, cause it might mess up your score :rolleyes1......
The fact that I installed a new keyboard on the laptop yesterday helped facilitate the quick-ish update. Thankfully the laptop was still under warranty because the spacebar was toast-with a little help from Jack-Jack and a lot of help from the insane amount I type!
There were more pics in the progression I'm afraid. I'm not posting a 1/10th of the pictures I took! :rolleyes1 But I thought it was pretty funny too..... they were trying so hard to get him to dance and he was looking at them like..."Oh you funny little g-ma's. You go right ahead and keep trying to get me to dance, but it's noottttttttttt gonna happppppppppen!" Kinda in the evil Plankton kinda voice... but not EVIL! Oh you know what I mean!
The sunset out of the view from the top of ToT stole the day for me and nearly the trip. It came in closely behind Jiko for best magical experience! :love:
Great update! Looking forward to Ohana and Wishes! And why is it that people let you walk around with yuck on you? That seems to happen to me all the time? Maybe I'm just a slob and they've given up on me.... but I digress. Hope whatever it was came out in the wash.
And if ever there were a place to "pop out the goods" and have nobody notice? A dark theater in Disney. I'm sure nobody would care at all - how many moms are there? How many moms who are or have nursed their kids? I wouldn't recommend it at, say, the parade route... or while riding TSM, cause it might mess up your score :rolleyes1......
Ya know I don't know. My mom said she hadn't noticed, but I mean c'mon! It's a black shirt with white ick ! It did come out in the wash, thanks ! :goodvibes
I agree about Disney being a fairly understanding place to pop out the goods. And you'll have to stay tuned to see if I came to that conclusion while I was still in Disney! :eek:
Yay! Great update twinnie!
i promise i wouldn't let you walk around with yuck on you.... yuck!
Awesome you got to ride RnRC and ToT again! i wish i had done RnRC one more time. i'm glad you liked DHS more than you have previously. Y'all had a wonderful day, that's awesome!
Now i hope 'Ohana is yummy... and i'm wishing for Wishes for you!! :hug:
It was wonderful!! I'm wishing for Wishes for me too! :rolleyes1
Great Update!! I found a new love for DHS when I went this last time!! I really enjoyed exploring the streets and meeting new characters!! I loved watching the street shows it was fantastic!! I had an amazing time!!! Glad you found a new love for it too!!
Can't wait to hear about your dinner at Ohana's
Thanks Jen!! I was totally surprised at how much I had been overlooking and dismissing about DHS! It just clicked for me! Maybe cus Mr. I was loving it too... it was just a great day! :cloud9:
'Ohana tonight I hope!!
Have a great day everyone! Leaving to pick up Dash from school!
We left DHS and got back to Pop in no time at all. Love that quick commute between the two. We made it back to our room and rested a bit. I changed shirts first thing! :thumbsup2
We didn't have long to kill and I really wanted to make it to Poly for Wishes at 8pm. We left at 7:30pm from Pop... which I thought was plenty of time. Except that Mr. Incredible looked at the map and found a different way to go from the directions I had gotten by calling Poly. But Mr. Incredible thought his way would be shorter. He looked at a map and disregarded any of my questions as to why the Poly front desk person would tell me to go the other way... *insert foreboding smilie here*
I don't argue with him. I mean what's the point. He assured me that his way was better. This from a man that had never been to Disney before in his life. :rolleyes1 I look at the map and I see why he thinks his way is more straight forward so... we go his way.
We load up Jack-Jack in his carseat, click it into the stroller so we don't have to get him into the stroller, then out and then back in, and we're off. Everything is going smoothly... looks like Mr. Incredible's way is working out. Until he misses the exit for World Drive. And we have to go way out of our way to turn around to try to come back to go the wrong way to turn around again to take the exit we should have taken in the first place. Not a big deal... we weren't lost. But we managed to lose about 10 mins.
We find Poly and eventually find a parking spot, waaaaaaaaaaaaay in the back of the parking lot. We make our way into the lobby. I'm hobbling along again. For whatever reason, after I quit moving for a while, my foot would stiffen up and hurt much worse than after I'd walked on it for a while. So it takes us a while to make it back to the beach. I can hear the fireworks going off. We literally make it to the beach as the last firework crackles in the air. Mr. Incredible saw the last few bursts because he beat us to the beach. Not me and my slow self. I missed it. I miss it all. AGAIN! :sad2:
I try to suck it up. We still have one last day in MK right? It doesn't matter that this is the third time I had planned to view Wishes and I missed it yet again. Because we've got birthdays to celebrate.
We call Honey and Frozone and they were on a pier somewhere. They had managed to catch the whole fireworks display. I was happy for them. They found a little bench and caught the whole show. Which was fortunate, because they weren't going to be with us on our MK day. They were very thankful that I had suggested the viewing from the Poly Beach and since they had left from their own hotel, in their own car, they made it in plenty of time to catch it. I hope that sitting out on a bench, on a pier on the lagoon watching the fireworks together was a magical, romantic moment and I'm honestly glad they got to experience it.
They said they'd meet us at the lobby for 'Ohana. We took our time getting back into the building, peering into rooms as we went by. Dash was very impressed with the pool and I dream of staying here one day, though it's not my first priority of Deluxe hotels to stay in.
Sure enough, Honey and Frozone are waiting for us. I check us in. Boy was it crowded! When our pager went off, I asked the guy that was seating us if this was normal for January and he said no way. He said normally it's just conventions and cheerleaders. He said it has been like this all month... he thought because of the buy 4, get 3 free and because of the massively bad weather they were having up north. Made sense to me!
We were seated at a large table in the very middle of the room. Great location because we could really see the cook station. I noticed there were no large tables on the perimeter of the room, only 2 and 4 tops. All the big tables were in the middle. The only problem with our table was I felt like we were under a spotlight! Man was it bright under there. Our cousin greeted us soon enough and the food started flowing quickly after.
The bread was warm and nutty and we all liked it, even Jack-Jack. The salad was great! Dash even tried it and wanted me to find that "honey lemon" dressing at home cus it made his lettuce taste goooood! :laughing: The sticky wings were my personal fave! The pot stickers were ok... some of us liked them more than others. The broccoli was just broccoli.. nothing special and the noddles were ok. I wish I had eaten there during the cheesy potato days!
http://i285.photobucket.com/albums/ll60/myjanboys/DSC00570.jpg
I think FGM took this picture of us all watching our cousin dish out the meats.
Of the meats, we all liked different ones best. I got more pork and shrimp. My mom got more shrimp. Frozone got more pork and turkey. Mr. I got more shrimp, pork and turkey. I think Honey and Mary Poppins got a few more shrimp.
http://i285.photobucket.com/albums/ll60/myjanboys/DSC00571.jpg
Making her way around the table with the MEAT! If you don't eat your meat, you can't have any pudding! How can you have any pudding, if you don't eat your meat?! :lmao: *Notice how bright it was at that table!*
No one got more steak. But in all fairness... Mr. I does work for a steakhouse and we're from Texas. It'd be like going to Hawaii and ordering Tex-Mex. Just doesn't make a lot of sense. (Though I'm sure there are great Tex-Mex restaurants in Hawaii! :rotfl2: ) We didn't get seconds of anything else. Our cousin kinda disappeared in the middle of our service and another server took over.... don't really know why buttttttt :confused3 .
Jack-Jack entertained us through the meal... playing with spoons and holding the wet hand towels up to his ears. I guess this amused Mary Poppins because at some point she got tickled!
http://i285.photobucket.com/albums/ll60/myjanboys/DSC00573.jpg
I have no idea what Jack-Jack was doing, but he did this entirely on his own. He played with those towels forever!
http://i285.photobucket.com/albums/ll60/myjanboys/DSC00596.jpg
Mary Poppins laughing her heinster (that's a combinatin of heinie and keister) off!
Dash didn't want to do the coconut race but when he heard they were offering hula lessons he was all over that. Away he went.
http://i285.photobucket.com/albums/ll60/myjanboys/DSC00574-Copy.jpg
He looks so grown up in this picture!!
http://i285.photobucket.com/albums/ll60/myjanboys/DSC00576-Copy.jpg
"Moooooooooooom, must you take pictures and embarass me!"
They wanted all the mom's to join them for a dance but I had my hands full with Jack-Jack so FGM went. It was sweet!
http://i285.photobucket.com/albums/ll60/myjanboys/DSC00580.jpg
I love this one. I had to ask Frozone to take these pictures because I had Jack-Jack and he was started to melt down at this point. I was really happy that FGM got to do this dance. I hope it's a memory she'll cherish for a long time.
http://i285.photobucket.com/albums/ll60/myjanboys/DSC00583.jpg
Mary Poppins and Honey feelin' the 'Ohana love!
http://i285.photobucket.com/albums/ll60/myjanboys/DSC00587.jpg
Honey and Frozone posing for the camera-post pork hungover!
I had a little surprise set up for Jack-Jack and Dash. A little cupcake for Jack-Jack and the Pirate chest cake for Dash. I didn't want to order a big cake because I knew we'd all be eating the bread pudding instead! BUT I knew Dash wouldn't like the bread pudding, so this was the only ADR I had made with an additional birthday dessert for Dash other than the standard one. He was very surprised and perhaps a bit confused!
http://i285.photobucket.com/albums/ll60/myjanboys/DSC00598.jpg
Little cupcake for Jack-Jack and pirate chest cake for Dash! Jack-Jack wanted nothing to do with his cupcake but Dash was alllll over his treasure chest cake!
Just when the bread pudding arrived, Jack-Jack reached the end of his rope. He'd been great all day, hadn't had a long long nap and had sat in his high chair for the majority of the meal. I'm surprised he lasted that long, to be honest. But right as the bread pudding arrived! I love bread pudding. It's one of my favorites and definitely what I had been dreaming of most from 'Ohana's. I got up and took Jack-Jack over to watch the cooking station. He was mesmerized. I tried to not pout and did a pretty good job. We were there maybe five minutes when someone tapped me on my shoulder. It was Mr. Incredible. He'd shooved in a few bites of bread pudding and was there to relieve me of Jack-Jack so I could go back and eat my dream dessert. :love:
And eat it I did. I think there was half of that family serving left and I nearly finished it. OMG! It was the BEST dessert I had all trip. Topped Jiko, topped the cheesecake at Narcoosee's, topped the eclair at the Patissier , topped the other desserts y'all don't know about yet. ;)
We settled our bill and headed out to find an asleep Jack-Jack in his stroller and Mr. Incredible sitting on a bench rocking him gently back and forth. Said night night to Honey and Frozone in the second floor lobby and waited for the elevator. Made our way back out to the Mary Poppins mobile and headed back to Pop the way we came. Only to end up on some dark road heading toward Fort Wilderness. Um how did we end up here? Apparently it doesn't work the same way going back as it did coming. Thankfully we had the map with us and figured out that we could go down and catch another road and come back. So we took the scenic route home. Jack-Jack had woken up in the transition back to the carseat and he officially had ENOUGH and was fussy. I managed to nurse him while the car was driving and yes he was still buckled into his carseat. I'm talented what can I say. He conked out and we enjoyed the relative silence. I think we were all pooped. It had been our longest day yet. We all turned in and crashed. We had a date to get to the Animal Kingdom around 10am because it was our only AK day and I didn't want to miss out on EE FPs!
All in all we had a great meal. I don't know if Mr. Incredible and I would go back just the two of us, but it was a lot of fun for a large group. Dash enjoyed the interactive aspect of it and I definitely :lovestruc the bread pudding, sticky wings and shrimp! So who knows. For 1TS we might just be back in September!
Other than missing Wishes..... AGAIN.... it had been a great day! We were glad to get to spend some time with Honey and Frozone. We only get to see them about twice a year. They hadn't seen Jack-Jack since he was six months old and at that age they change so much in six short months. We really enjoyed DHS and everyone really enjoyed 'Ohana. They all told me what a great choice I had made in planning it for our big group dinner. So that was a nice thing to hear after all the stress and changing and rechanging of our ADRs. When Mr. Incredible and I turned in that night he quietly apologized to me for being a stubborn male and insisting we go his way. :hug: I wasn't angry with him... I knew he hadn't done it on purpose... but the fact that he knew me well enough to know I was upset at missing Wishes again and apologized for it... was really sweet of him. :love:
Next on Hop, Skip and a Week! Animal Kingdom day!! Would Mr. Incredible like what is really my least favorite park? Would we get to ride EE or would those FPs be gone too?? Would we manage to make it back to the hotel early for a nap like I had planned so we could make a late night of it at DTD?
Stay tuned!!!!!!!!!!
About the posting only a fraction of what you've taken... you are not alone in your picture-taking obsession. Seriously. :hug:
It's good to not be alone!!! :hug: :rotfl: I can see where I will get worse at the picture taking thing. As I get more into writing TRs, it will definitely get worse. As I write this one, I keep thinking " Why didn't I take a picture of THAT?" and kicking myself for not taking more than I did and I thought I had taken a lot of pictures!
I think the picture posting is going to get worse as the TR progresses. I realized at some point I hadn't taken as many pictures as I wanted so I tried to make up for it on the last few days!
I warned y'all!! :lmao:
I have a new found love for DHS from our January trip as well! We had such a magical day there - so nice and smooth. It was my least favorite (and Joe's favorite :laughing:), but now I cannot pic a least favorite. I love them all for different reasons!
And Ohana----------yuuuuuuuuuuuummmmmmmmmmm! I totally PIGGED OUT in November there (so much that I am pretty certain it is what made me sick! I ate myself sick!) and yes, the bread pudding-AMAZING! :worship:
I am so happy to read what a wonderful day at DHS and at Ohana you had! That so stinks about missing Wishes again though! I really, really hope you were able to catch it on your MK day. What sweet moments with your DH taking Jack-Jack so you could enjoy the bread pudding and then apologizing! :goodvibes
I uploaded pictures today to start work on Day 5 today, but Jack-Jack got sick (er). He's been having a running nose and cough for about a week now, but no fever, and had been getting better. Less running, less coughing.
This afternoon he started throwing up. So I'm afraid there goes my update. I was doing good to sign in to let y'all know!
Hopefully this is just a quick little 24 hr virus and not something that drags on for a week like the last time he got a stomach virus ... course that stomach virus was accompanied with Scarlet Fever so I'm thinking it was a fluke!!
I'll update as soon as I can everyone!!
Finally! Thanks for hanging in everyone. Everything is taken care of for buying the house, now it's just a matter of time until closing. Jack-Jack woke up yesterday as if nothing had happened the night before, though he was still a little puney.
:offtopic: My oldest sister and I took the boys to IKEA yesterday and I made an impromptu purchase - a new desk and shelving unit for our office. We're hoping to get new carpet soon after the house closes, so we figured we should paint while we had the old desk and shelves out and had old carpet to drip on! So we had quite a productive day yesterday! My house is still a disaster area with the old desk in pieces laying in the hall way and books off the shelves. There's no point bolting the new shelves to the wall when we'll have to unbolt them before the carpet install, and there's no point in loading down the bookshelves if we're just gonna have to pull them out again so the office is in limbo for now.
Here are some pictures!
http://i285.photobucket.com/albums/ll60/myjanboys/January2007015.jpg
Before-kinda. The recliner has been moved to the living room and you can't really see the ginormous corner desk that was way past it's time and a major space waster!
http://i285.photobucket.com/albums/ll60/myjanboys/DSC01158.jpg
Jack-Jack helping my sister paint!
...and helping her read the directions.
http://i285.photobucket.com/albums/ll60/myjanboys/DSC01161.jpg
Dash loved helping too! He got to use the rubber mallet some and carry pieces to us, hand us screws etc. Thankfully Jack-Jack was sound asleep by the time assemble started.
After pic from the doorway.
http://i285.photobucket.com/albums/ll60/myjanboys/DSC01165.jpg
After pic from inside the room.
It's definitely still a work in progress. We have to do some touch ups where you can tell we didn't tape off the corners. :scared1: I'm using this as an opportunity to donate some books and get rid of some clutter! I try not to packrat but I do keep some things that I will never need again! TRASH!!
I found the greatest chair at Target that's a white fabric with that same Tiffany blue color pattern all over it. But the chair costs more than the shelves and desk combined! Not gonna happen! But man would it be pretty! LOL
I'm gonna get some pictures of the places we've traveled printed in 8x10 black and whites, probably some pictures from this Disney trip, and hang them on the blue wall!
But enough about my little project! I'm so just excited I had to share! :banana: I'm an office supply freak! I love pens and notebooks and cubbies and cool post-its. So I'm really stoked to get my new office all set up!
And now... an update!!!
We woke up Sunday morning on time... which was amazing. All of us were up and ready to take on Animal Kingdom. We headed down for breakfast and then met Honey and Frozone and were off.
http://i285.photobucket.com/albums/ll60/myjanboys/DSC00605.jpg
Jack-Jack sat with Mary Poppins and Honey on the bus ride over.
We arrived at AK around 10:30am. As we arrived there was an airplane sky writing messages from a local church.
http://i285.photobucket.com/albums/ll60/myjanboys/DSC00609.jpg
The first thing was a happy face to get our attention. Then the plane started writing Jesus Loves You. I'm guessing it was a plane hired by a church. Could have been a man named Jesus proposing to someone!
http://i285.photobucket.com/albums/ll60/myjanboys/DSC00608.jpg
The boys waiting on me to take pictures! You can see the sign I made for the stroller so we could pick it out of the crowd easier!
We stop to get a picture of Dash in front of the sign and then we head toward the entrance.
http://i285.photobucket.com/albums/ll60/myjanboys/DSC00610.jpg
He was in a mood to get his picture taken today. Fickle pickle! Check out the sunglasses I'd gotten him at DHS the day before!
It was pretty crowded, plus I think the design of the park, shooving everyone into one of two paths, makes it feel that much more crowded. We walk toward Dinoland, park the family and Mr. Incredible and I take everyone's tickets to get FPs for EE. Thankfully they were available with a return window for 3:30pm. This was great... except that we had wanted to leave early this day to get a nap before a night at DTD. We knew we needed to cover everything else we wanted to cover before our FP window opened so we could ride it last. We headed back to Dinoland the same way we had come, via the path by Nemo, and rode Dinosaur with everyone except Mary Poppins and Jack-Jack. He had fallen asleep really quickly this day, before we even made it over to Dinoland in the first place. Mary Poppins who isn't big on rides anyway, offered to sit with him.
We had to ride Dinosaur standby since we'd used up all our FPs on EE. It was about 20 mins but Dash enjoyed the queue on this one a lot and it gave us some time to visit with Honey and Frozone.
Dash really loved this one. Didn't scare him nearly as much as it had the first trip. Mr. I on the other hand didn't like this one so much. He didn't like the dinosaurs roaring and jumping out at him. :lmao:
The exit is a long way from the entrance on this ride. Along the way we ran into some characters! We stopped for a photo but I didn't have my camera with me! It was in Jack-Jack's stroller. Thankfully Honey had her camera with her. I've emailed her a request for the files and will update with the pictures as soon as I get them. Sorry I didn't think to ask her for them sooner!
We make our way back to where we had left Mary Poppins and Jack-Jack to find him wide awake and cruising the benches. I struck up a conversation with a lady and her two kids sitting on the next bench eating churros! They made me want churros the rest of the trip!! We were in the middle of talking and her husband just goes " We need to go now!" and grabbed her hand and pulled her off the bench. It didn't appear that there was any kind of emergency, she didn't look worried or surprised by his disclaimer. I was a bit taken aback by this... I mean we were in mid conversation and she was into the conversation as much as I was. It wasn't like I was talking AT her. I've had that happen a few times, people just talk at you and you are trying to not engage for whatever reason and they just don't get the hint... but this lady was talking as much as I was. Until her husband decided it was time to leave, without so much as an excuse me or anything. :confused3
OK I'll get off my soap box.
Mr. Incredible and I took Jack-Jack to the family bathroom back over by the spinning coaster that I'm too lazy to look up the name for, and realized there was no changing table in there. It was great for both Mr. I and I to be able to go into the same restroom so I could have some help but the lack of changing table was a bummer. We laid the stroller all the way back, lifted up the lap tray and changed him in his stroller! Problem solved!
We meet back up with our party again and take leave of Dinoland. We head around the hub to the path to Africa. We stopped along the way several times... I could't quite get the message across that we'd have time to kill AFTER we got our FPs for the Safari. So we stopped at every single animal habitat from Dinoland to Africa. I stressed at this point- another way big groups can cause problems.
Dash really likes the strollers at AK- CAMO!
We finally make it to Africa and the standby wait is only 30 mins. The return time for the FP is in 30 mins. Most of the group thought we should get in line and wait... 30 mins is 30 mins right?
I have to explain to the rest of the group that imo, it's better to wait 30 mins to get in line, than to wait in line for 30 mins. They got it eventually. :idea:
So we grabbed FPs for everyone and instead of sitting at a nice picnic table and having a snack, the rest of the group decides to take on the Pangani Trail. Now my injuries were better than they had been right after I fell, but I was still popping ibuprofen every four hours like clock-work. Extra walking on a fairly hot, humid day wasn't exactly what I wanted to do at that point. But I went along with the group. Mr. Incredible, Jack-Jack and I didn't take as long to go through it as everyone else in our party did but we did see the bachelor gorilla group.
http://i285.photobucket.com/albums/ll60/myjanboys/DSC00624.jpg
Mean looking thing isn't he? :rolleyes:
We sat on a rock bench and waited for the rest of our group to catch up. I think FGM had Dash and Mary Poppins was walking through with Honey and Frozone. By the time we all got through the trail it was time to ride the safari!!
Up next!!! Would we see anything on the Safari or was it too late in the afternoon? Would Jack-Jack like the bumpy ride? Would we get to see Lion King-FGM's favorite? Would Mr. Incredible like EE as much as I do?
Stay Tuned!!
So glad to hear Jack-Jack is feeling better!!
We got almost that same unit from Ikea just about a week ago! We got the smaller shevles-just two columns of boxes.
Anyway, we LOVE the desk and shelves! I'm typing at my laptop at it right now! We got a chair from there, from the "As Is" section for half price - it's bright red and very comfy, and the only problem was that the base with the wheels was screwed on backwards. DH fixed that and viola! perfect chair!
Now, onto the update! :goodvibes The pic of Dash in front of the sign is great-what a cutie. Sounds like a start of a good day at AK! I've never seen Lion King, so I hope you did so I can learn a bit more about it! ;) I also hope Mr. I LOVED EE! What is there not to love?!?! :yay:
Great update, twinnie! Sounds like a lot of walking so far at AK! So far you've ridden the one ride we didn't that i wish we had :(
That's so funny that you guys got the same Ikea unit. Small world!! I didn't even intend to buy anything that day... but fell in love with the set and can't wait til I get the office done the way I want it to be. Kudos on buying a chair half off that hubby was able to fix so easily!! I :lovestruc bargains!!
Lots of walking that day... and night!!! Awwww that you missed Dinosaur! It's fun!
I'm going to try to get an update today out everyone. Someone needs to send 'life' a memo that I'm trying to write a TR on the DISboards. :lmao: It's been another insane week. Mr. Incredible was in a wreck Wednesday night. Thankfully he wasn't hurt and no one else was involved. He spun out on a curve during a rain storm (and it hadn't rained here in months so all the oil was built up on the roads). He spun around about 8 times he thinks and went into the medium. The car came to a halt about 2 feet before going into uncoming traffic. :scared1: It was a scary ordeal for all of us and first and foremost we're just grateful no one was hurt.
On the flipside, the car was an older model that wasn't covered completely on insurance, just liability, and the body shop can't get it into gear so we're fearful that the transmission somehow got messed up when he came to a stop on the grassy medium. So we may be looking at purchasing another car.... at the same time we're purchasing the house!! That's a whole lot of purchasing!! :eek:
I'm trying not to worry too much about this, but the reality is it may interfere with our Disney Anniversary Trip plans. :sad2: That's life right?
I know if we have to cancel this trip, we'll get to go back again eventually but it's a hard pill to swallow. I'm trying to hold off on officially popping my bubble. A lot can happen between now and August when the package is due to be paid off!! :thumbsup2
Anyway!! Enough :sad1: stuff!! I'm gonna start working on that update!!!
When I last left you we were heading into the FP line of Safari. I love the fact that we can use the stroller in this line up to a certain point. :thumbsup2 Disney planners!! We park the stroller and make our way down the last little bit of queue before getting on. This was the only ride of the day that we ALL rode. Honey, Frozone and Mary Poppins were on one row and FGM, Dash, Mr. I, Jack-Jack and myself were on the row behind them.
http://i285.photobucket.com/albums/ll60/myjanboys/DSC00628.jpg
Mary Poppins watched the wild animal Jack-Jack almost more than the safari animals!
The ride was enjoyed by everyone. Mr. I's family really enjoyed it, especially. They are big time animal people. Mary Poppins was very impressed, which is saying something since she's really not into rides. We saw a TON of animals!! I'm guessing because it was winter they were out more during the day. Dash was really into it, though he kept complaining that he couldn't see. We finally put him on Mr. I's lap so he was high enough up and on the edge of the vehicle.
http://i285.photobucket.com/albums/ll60/myjanboys/DSC00656.jpg
I love that we caught this big guy in mid-yawn!!
Jack-Jack was fine for the first part of the ride, but toward the end he got major antsy. It was hard to keep him happy and settled on such a bumpy road. I broke out a Nutragrain bar and he ate that. Mr. I took most of the pictures while I handled Jack-Jack. We took his shoes off, we let him play with our cell phones! We tried everything. Thankfully he didn't get vocally fussy until the end of the ride. As soon as we got off the ride, we bought him a bottle of water and poured it into his bottle and he downed it. Poor little guy was just thirsty!!! :guilty: He was trying to tell me! I just wasn't about to pop the goods out on the safari ride!!
We made our way out of Africa (ha!) and around to Yak and the Yeti CS. I had Yak and the Yeti reservations made at one point and cancelled it because we eat a lot of chinese food at home and I had a lot of other reservations I wanted to keep that weren't similar to something that we had at home, plus I was thinking that since there was a cs too we could get a taste of the goodness without spending a whole lot o' money!
I knew Honey and Frozone were about ready to call it a day but they decided to go eat with us first. We arrived and went to grab a table first. Mr. I stayed in line to order for us but managed to forget a few things, so I ended up going back to order the fried rice and bottle of water he'd forgotten. The line was insane. There were people standing around waiting for food and getting a bit impatient (understatement). They were pushing and trying to grab food that wasn't their's. :sad2: I finally got my order of chicken fried rice and bottle of water and headed to our table.
I have to say... I don't know if it was the fact that they were having a bad day or what, but the food was a major disappointment. The honey chicken I had gotten was ok, but the way they pre-pack the rice on the bottom, the rice was WAY over done. I had been excited to try the egg rolls and they were ok, but they tasted like any frozon variety I've had before. The chicken fried rice tasted like nothing I can think of. It was dry and hard and pretty much tasteless. I felt bad for the rest of the family members I'd dragged to eat here and was thankful they'd enjoyed the meals the day before because this way didn't live up to my expectations at all. The one bright spot was the french fries. Go figure!!
Mary Poppins decided to head back to the hotel with Honey and Frozone and we were going to stay at the park and use our FPs for EE. Mary Poppins, Honey and Frozone were going to do the other trail..... the tiger one. FGM stayed with us and we pushed our way over to EE.
We stopped to take some pictures in front of THE mountain!
http://i285.photobucket.com/albums/ll60/myjanboys/DSC00663.jpg
FGM and Dash! I have a similar picture from our 07 trip!
http://i285.photobucket.com/albums/ll60/myjanboys/DSC00665.jpg
Mr. I and myself. Why do I always turn sideways in pictures!!? You can see where all the fried chicken and rice went to from lunch! :lmao:
We parked FGM, Dash and Jack-Jack on a bench and went to use our FPs. I had 7 passes!! We were all set to ride it just us the first time then with Dash once and then us again ! :cool1:
We went through the ride the first time and it was great! As good as I remembered, but I don't think Mr. I was feeling it as much. I think after RnRCC it was a bit of a let down. He was willing to ride it again but I could tell he wasn't as enthused as I was. After riding it this time with Dash on my mind, I didn't think he should ride this one either. I was scared it would scare the poo out of him and didn't want to traumatize the kid. I started feelin bad about just leaving my mom on a bench with the kids long enough for us to do the ride three times. And I was feeling bad that Mom was going to miss FOTLK, which is her most favorite thing. It was 4pm at this point and I decided since Mr. I wasn't really into EE and since the last FOTLK show was at 4:30pm we could make it!! So we head back to the bench, Mr. I still thinking we're going to get Dash, and I see a family in the standby line. I ask them how many in their party and they say five and I give them our FPs. They look at me like they have no idea what I'm handing over. So I explain to them what they are. It didn't feel as disney magical as I thought it would. Maybe I expected too much but they just looked like oh ok. :confused3 Oh well. Mr. I felt bad that I hadn't gotten to ride it more than once but it was ok. I knew I'd be back and needed to think of other people in my party. So we head off to meet up with mom, Dash and Jack-Jack. We find Jack-Jack playing in water. FGM had poured a little bit of bottled water into the stroller's feeding trays and he was enjoying splashing in the little puddles.
I tell mom my idea and she's excited. Bless her heart, she had been perfectly willing to give up FOTLK for us but was excited at getting to see her favorite show afterall!! We start the trek from EE to FOTLK.
And I swear we would have made it, except....
I forgot about the parade. :guilty:
By the time we stayed on the other side of the ropes, wiggled our way through, managing to see most of the parade along the way, made our way all the way back to the safari area to cross the parade route to get back up to the front of the park, all the way down the Camp Minnie Mickey path, we missed it by minutes. :sad2:
My feet were killing me, not only from the injury but from walking all over creation, I was upset we'd missed my mom's favorite thing and we had to WALK all the way back out of Camp Minnie Mickey area, out to the front of the park. Naturally Jack-Jack picked then to fall asleep in his stroller, when we would have to get him out of his stroller to get on the bus!
http://i285.photobucket.com/albums/ll60/myjanboys/DSC00666.jpg
Another sleeping Jack-Jack pic!!
http://i285.photobucket.com/albums/ll60/myjanboys/DSC00668.jpg
And another!
By this time the parade had ended on one side of the park and the masses were out. We made our way to the stroller station, dropped off Dash's stroller and headed toward Pop's bus stop. We waited quite a while for a bus. By this time it was 4:45pm. I did get a seat on the bus, holding Jack-Jack. By this time in the trip, Dash had decided it was more fun to stand up on the bus than sit, which was fortunate, because there were no more seats and my lap couldn't handle both of the boys!
We got back to the hotel and made our way to our room. Mary Poppins was asleep in her bed and we all stayed in our room to let her sleep.
Jack-Jack and Mr. Incredible encountered a critter outside of our room when they got to the door.
http://i285.photobucket.com/albums/ll60/myjanboys/DSC00669.jpg
The ducks just waddled there, nonplussed.
FGM had promised Dash he could swim that afternoon, so she took him down to the kiddie pool so he could get in without an adult. None of the adults wanted to get in the big pool! But Dash seemed happy enough to play in the kiddie pool. I changed out of my tennis shoes and into my crocs to walk down to the pool to get some pictures. Those crocs felt so good after wearing tennis shoes for five days, that my feet were in heaven. :cloud9:
http://i285.photobucket.com/albums/ll60/myjanboys/DSC00679.jpg
http://i285.photobucket.com/albums/ll60/myjanboys/DSC00680.jpg
This one cracks me up! I have no idea what look he was going for but it's hillarious!
http://i285.photobucket.com/albums/ll60/myjanboys/DSC00683.jpg
We got Dash out after about 30 mins and headed back to our room to get him in the tub! Mary Poppins was up by the time we got back, and FGM decided to lay down. As soon as she laid down she said she realized how tired she was, so she opted to stay at the hotel that night, which I totally understood! I think secretly she was being sweet and letting Mr. Incredible's side of the family have a little family reunion. We had plans to meet Honey and Frozone at DTD around 7pm and it was their last night in the world!
Would we manage to navigate our way to DTD in the Mary Poppins mobile successfully? Would we find Honey and Frozone? Would they like WPE as much as I do or would it be a repeat of lunch?! Would I get to all the shops I wanted to get to!?
Stay tuned!!
i'm sorry you only got to ride EE once PLUS missed FOTLK! i'm also really sorry your Y&Y CS was subpar - two weeks later when we went, it was deLICious.
Funny how people who don't know about FPs think you're just handing over a piece of paper, and not a valuable commodity!!
TYTYTYTY! :)
Only riding EE was ok. I was pretty wiped by that point so I don't think I was enjoying it as much as I would have a lil more rested.
I read your review of Yuk N Yeti before I wrote mine and thought it was funny that we had such opposite opinions. Let's hope it was just a bad day when we were there, cus otherwise... we don't have twinnie connection with chinese food!! :scared1: :rotfl2:
Yikes about Mr. I's car accident is right. It was s c a r y! It could have been a very serious accident! So as frustrating as all the financial ramifications are, we're trying to focus on that!!
I'm heading out of town today for four days to visit my parents and they don't have internet!! :eek: Shock and horror I know!
I LOVE the pics of Jack-Jack sleeping. SO adorable! Bummer to hear Mr. I wasn't over the moon with EE, but at least he rode-and it doesn't sound like he hated it, just wasn't all that impressed, eh? I find it more impressive than RnRC, which I think is too short...but in the dark, rockin' music, etc. it is still awesome!
That stinks about missing FOTLK, I knew we walked way over there too and missed the show on our November trip. It's such a haul over there! Blah. I've never seen FOTLK, maybe in December....I hear it's awesome!
Note made about Y&Y CS - the TS was good, but I've heard several poor reviews of the CS. I want to try Flame Tree, sounds so yummy!
Jack-Jack slept everywhere! It became a joke that everytime he was sleeping, we'd get a picture of him. I have more to come!! I think Mr. I would have liked EE more if we'd ridden it a second time. I definitely like RnRC more the second time around. I think the first time he keeps his eyes shut and is a bit.... scared.... not knowing what to expect. :scared1: :laughing:
FOTLK is awesome. It's almost like a mini Cirque show and the Cirque shows I've seen are FANTABULOUS so thats a big compliment from this gellybean.
The haul that day was miserable!! I was glad to get in my crocs!!
Yuk N Yeti I doubt we will repeat, at least not CS. We may try the table service though! It still sounds yummy!!
We ate at Flametree last time and it was good but we weren't jumping out of our seats. THAT being said, when you live in Texas, you are spoiled by GOOD BBQ so that was prolly part of our lack of enthusiasm.
Sorry about the lack of update last night. It took longer to get the car picked up than I thought, and my sister ended up staying for dinner. About 10pm when I would have been ready to sit down to write the report because the house was finally picked up and the boys were asleep, we realized that my sister still had the keys to Mr. I's car from when she had driven it home from the body shop. So at 10pm last night I was driving to the next suburb over to pick up the keys!!
Then this morning I get a call from Mr. I that someone broke into his car. His newly repaired, first day back at work car. Someone busted out a window and attempted to steal stuff out of the car. There wasn't a whole lot to steal, thankfully. No cd players or ipod. They popped open the glovebox to find nothing but oil change records. The only thing Mr. I can determine was taken was the change in the change holder.
I called the body shop that had just fixed the car and got a number for a mobile glass unit so the window should be fixed today, in the parking lot of Mr. I's work. So that was one good thing!
Hoping to post an update tonight, assuming something else doesn't happen!! I'm beginning to feel like the chick on Good Luck Chuck!! :rotfl: Just not nearly as good looking ;)
When I last left off, we were at the hotel getting ready to meet Honey and Frozone at DTD. We left FGM sleeping and headed out in Mary Poppins' mini-van. We looked at the map we had left in the car and found that DTD was a pretty straight shot from Pop Century so getting there was a breeze. We stopped and parked at parking lot 2, which we probably should have gone on down to Parking Lot 1 but I was scared we'd go too far. Why it didn't occur to me that we could just hang a u-turn and come back if we went too far is beyond me!
We found a parking spot pretty quickly, which considering how crazy it was, was LUCKY! Never in all my years of going to DTD, which would be I'm guessing about 15 or more years, have I seen it as crowded as it was. INSANE! I'm guessing because it was winter season and the parks were closing early, everyone decided to go to DTD after park close!
We got the kids out, got the stroller and away we went. I tried to distract Dash as we passed by the T-Rex restaurant. He thought it was a cool ride but didn't realize it was somewhere he could eat. The theming looked awesome and I'd love to take him there to eat next trip, after some of the newness has worn off and it's not as busy.
We walked toward the Marketplace area while trying to call Honey on her cell phone. By the time we got her, we found out she was right where we just were, in front of Fulton's so we waited for them to catch up with us. They had beaten us there by a half hour or so and had already hit up some of the shops, though I don't think they realized there were more further down.
While we waited we took these:
Dash was very impressed with the Lego sculptures which I found funny because he could have cared less on our trip in 07.
http://i285.photobucket.com/albums/ll60/myjanboys/DSC00686.jpg
You can tell by the other feet in the background of the last picture that it was a free for all to get pictures with the Lego people. I politely waited for several other groups for Dash to get a turn. I finally gave up waiting and just had him get in with the rest of the kids. No one even realized I was trying to wait for a turn. It was chaos.
We reunited with Honey and Frozone in front of the Lego store and proceeded toward WPE for dinner. I thought I knew where it was and started second guessing myself by the time I got around to Earl of Sandwich. I thought.... Oh GREAT I just led all these people over here and we're gonna have to turn around and go back. :headache:
Thankfully, it was right around the next bend. I saw how busy it was and told Mr. I to go ahead and order and I'd go get a table. Well somehow that didn't translate to man-english. I took the boys and found a table INSIDE which on a chilly night such as it was, was PRIME eating locale. I turn to look back to see where they were in line to see them standing outside reading the menu still. Hmmmm. I guess it was taking them a while to figure out what they wanted, but there was a menu inside to read as well, while standing in a line that was quickly getting longer. Just about the time I reach for my cell phone to text Mr. I, he comes around the corner to find me, wanting to know what I was doing. Um... I'm saving a table?! What does it look like I'm doing!?
They'd been waiting on ME to go in because they didn't know what to do. :confused3
Um you go follow the masses in to a line and herd yourself like cattle up to counter to place your order and get your little number.
I was a bit perplexed at this point. It didn't seem like rocket science to me but then again I'd been there before and they hadn't. So I left Mr. Incredible at the table with the boys while I explained the ordering process to the rest of his family. I stayed and ordered with them, since Mr. I had told me what he wanted. I knew what I wanted already!! The mushroom and pepperoni pizza!! Mr. I wanted the hot BBQ Beef knife and fork thing. We all ordered separately and I went back to the table to ask what he wanted to drink. I got our drinks, sat his tea down while I reached for the lids and straws, turned around and knocked his full tea on the floor everywhere. I was surrounded by about 4 other people getting drinks, plus the 'chef's table' in the kitchen and everyone walking around from the order line to the eating area. I don't know why I was surprised at this point, I'd done everything else in the world to embarass myself this trip, why not something else?!
I went up to the counter and asked for another cup, explained that it had spilled on the rubber mat so I didn't think it was a safety hazard but thought they should know anyway, got another tea for Mr. Incredible and went to sit down. When Mr. I asked me what had taken so long, I just glared at him and proceeded to feed Jack-Jack a nutragrain bar. :rotfl:
Our food arrived soon enough and everyone except Mr. I had ordered pizza. It was as good as I remembered and Jack-Jack agreed. I forgot to take a picture of him eating it (this time ;) ).
Honey and Frozone had brought gifts for the boys and we had run out of opportunities for the kids to open them in front of their aunt and uncle so we brought the gifts with us to WPE. The kids opened them and had a lot of fun. Dash was super excited about his gift... I'll post a picture in a few updates because he opens it to play with it a few nights later.
Honey and Frozone decided they needed to head on back after dinner because they had to drive back to the Atlanta area the next day. We said our goodbyes and just the five of us, Mary Poppins, Mr. I, the boys and myself headed to some shops. I popped into the Christmas store while everyone else took a bathroom break outside of WPE.
We headed back toward the car. I swore I had seen where Goofy's Candy Company was back toward World of Disney. Oops! Wrong. We walked all the way to Basin, stopping in the toy shop and getting a few things along the way before I checked a directory and realized that Goofy's had been right down from WPE. *sigh* I checked out Basin, going back and forth about buying some bath bombs and ultimately decided not to, not because I didn't like the idea of it, but I really didn't find any that I liked the smell of. Any suggestions all you bath bomb lovers??
We took this picture when we walked past World of Disney WITHOUT GOING IN! That killed me!
http://i285.photobucket.com/albums/ll60/myjanboys/DSC00687.jpg
Dash was all in the "take a picture of me" mood that night.
I had been wanting to do Goofy's since I first read about it on the Dining Plan snack credit thread. So I volunteer to leave everyone else on a bench and trek back by myself to get some treats. Well, Mr. I wanted treats too! And he didn't want me to get them for him, he wanted to pick them out himself, which I totally understood. Poor Mary Poppins was exhausted but didn't want to be parked on a bench by herself so we all head back to Goofy's.
We find it easy enough, right across from the Christmas store we had been in earlier. I was mentally kicking myself. They weren't too crazy busy but busy enough. We fill out our treat sheets and wait eagerly. I love love love Rocky Mountain Chocolate Factory's Monster Apples so I knew I wanted an apple, but I knew it would be hard to eat on the fly. So I decided to get pretzel rods.... ALSO! That's right baby! I got both. When on vacation.....!!! Calories don't count!
Dip, dip, dipping away.
http://i285.photobucket.com/albums/ll60/myjanboys/DSC00691.jpg
Entertaining Jack-Jack while we wait.
I was so excited to get that little bag o goodies! Mr. I got pretzels too and Dash got a bag of cotton candy. That he proceeded to beat the youknowwhat out of while we waited for the treats to set. So when I went up to pay, the CM at the register asked if I wanted another one becuase it was broken down into little clumps. I thanked her but said it wasn't necessary since he'd been the one to beat it to death. She said it was ok and let him pick out another cotton candy and threw away the one he'd destroyed. :lovestruc Very nice of her.
http://i285.photobucket.com/albums/ll60/myjanboys/DSC00694.jpg
Dash wanted another picture on the way back to the van.
We head back to T-Rex and Fulton's area to where we are parked. At this point I really was wishing we'd parked in lot 1 or A or whatever but oh well. We were tired and Jack-Jack was starting to melt down. He went from happy and cute and showing off to crying in about 2 mins. It was so crowded that it took forever to wiggle through with a stroller back to the van. Jack-Jack started full out wailing when we got in front of T-Rex so thankfully he nearly made it back to the car.
We get all buckled in and I nurse Jack-Jack while he's strapped in his carseat. AGAIN I'm just talented like that. :laughing: He falls asleep on the way back as does Dash.
We arrive at Pop, click Jack-Jack out of his carseat and into his stroller, and he sleeps through the whole process. That's a lot of jostling so you know he was tired. I had to wake up Dash because the child ways 64 lbs and there was no way I could carry him.
When we got back to our room, we found a very well rested Fairy God Mother.
We dove into our goodies, let Dash play a little,
http://i285.photobucket.com/albums/ll60/myjanboys/DSC00695.jpg
Drool worthy!! Note the bite I took BEFORE remembering to snap a picture.
http://i285.photobucket.com/albums/ll60/myjanboys/DSC00696.jpg
Oh yeah baby! Your time will come! I had no idea how to get into this badboy with my teeth or a plastic knife. At Rocky Mountain they always volunteer to cut them for you so you can eat it by the slice! YUM!
http://i285.photobucket.com/albums/ll60/myjanboys/DSC00697.jpg
What Dash picked out from the toy store. He loved it and Mom lucked out cus it was on clearance! That NEVER happens! There's a Captain Jack action figure behind the sail. It's his little boat he escapes in.
and then got the boys to bed! We were all pretty tired but thankfully we were planning to sleep in a bit the next morning. We had MK planned, with no ADRs during the day and the main thing we needed to cover was Tomorrowland and catch Spectro and WISHES!! Then Mr. I and I had one more date planned at Wolfgang Puck Cafe.
Will I finally get to see my favorite fireworks display ever!?!? Would Mr. I and I make it to our date!?
Dum, dum dummmmmmmmmmmmm!
Stay tuned!!
The car luck is definitely a hard pill to swallow. I just keep telling myself "it could be worse, it could be worse".
We do have to go and eat a ton of pretzels together!!!! I think it's awesome that Disney World is the only place you and I have both been! Apropos I think, since it's my favorite place in the world!! :hug:
On another sad note, we did end up cancelling our September Anniversary trip. :sad1: With everything going on, trying to buy the house, the car in the shop, trying to do a bunch of things to the house, we can't afford to do a trip, not the trip I want to do at least. And I'd rather wait and go back later than do a trip that isn't my dream trip. Not that there's anything wrong with a budget trip. I'm hoping to get to go on a budget trip with my sister, mom and the boys in November. I'm all for doing Disney as cheap as possible. It's just not the type of trip I want to take with just hubby and I for an anniversary celebration! The hardest part about cancelling was that we lose our free dining pin usage!! :sad:
Those pretzels really do look good...I want one of those and a mickey head treat too! And now that I've seen the apple, I'll need one of those too....guess it's a good thing disney calories don't count, huh? :rotfl:
Oh my! That is awful about the car! And TERRIBLE about having to cancel your anniversary trip!!!!!!! :sad2::sad1::hug: But, I know what you mean-this was a trip you wanted to splurge on, not think about the dollars and just ENJOY to the fullest extent--it just wouldn't be the same as a budget trip. You'll get to do it again--maybe next year!!!!!
Love the update! I could relate to the pics you were trying to do in DTD with Dash. Back in November I took Henry into the big shark (can't remember his name?) at the Nemo ride, so we could lay in there and take a pic. A father actually pushed his children in front of us. I tried to wait and wait, but parents kept shoving their kids in front of us. It was chaos! I was so annoyed, I finally gave up on getting that shot. :headache:
All the pics of Dash are adorable. I think it's funny that kids get in that "take a picture of me!" mood--and with the digital cameras of course they want to see every-single-picture you took too!
Sounds like a fun...but exhausting...night at DTD. I love WPE too, so YUMMY!
And Goofy's....:cloud9: I love those pretzel rods!! I'm going to have to try the apple next time, it looks delish. I could eat it for breakfast the next day. Apples=fruit, chocolate has milk in it....good enough! ;)
Dash's toy looks awesome! And score on it being on clearance! :thumbsup2
Nice update. What is it with men??!!! They do come from a completely different angle on things.
Your treats looked divine. I got the peanut butter oreo slathered with calorie induced goodness. YUM!
I'm sorry to hear about your anniversary trip being canceled I know exactly how you feel. I want to do it my way for the next trip with my DH. Even if it means waiting an extra year.
I'm hoping that your bad luck is behind you now.
Isn't Goofy's Candy Company just to die for? Yum. So many combinations, so little time. ;) I think they will cut the apple for you too. I remember hearing a couple behind me asking. What treats are on the dining plan? I need to remember this for our next trip! I'm sorry you had to cancel your anniversary trip. What a bummer.
So far the car luck has smoothed out a bit! I keep waiting for that next phone call ya know?? We did have a glich with the house closing though. UGH
Apparently when the current owners bought the house back in 06, the deed was filed incorrectly. The house is showing to be on lot 15, when in fact it's on lot 25. So technically the original owners don't even own the lot the house is on. LOVELY! They are in the process of trying to get the deed refiled correctly in time for closing by April 27th. It's always something!!
The pretzels were amazing, though I think I may go more classic flavors and less candy next time. I've been tempted to buy the stuff to make them at home, but I know there'd be no way I'd stop eating them until all the fixin's were GONE!
It's a GREAT thing Disney calories don't count. I gained those five pounds over that week on airport food. :rotfl:
Noooooooooo :sad2::sad1: i'm sorry :hug:
:hug: I know but it's ok. Really. It wasn't just a financial decision. I don't know if Jack-Jack will be ready to be away from me for 6 nights and the thought of being so far away and not being able to get back easily if something were to happen like him being inconsolable is hard for me to bear. Plus if we did have to come back early and lose out on our tickets etc. I'd be crushed. And FGM is willing to keep him but she doesn't handle unhappy babies easy, so she's stressing about keeping him while he's so young and such a momma's boy. So it's best if we wait to take such a faraway long trip til Jack-Jack is a little older and less attached to me! And me to him!
We are going to get to go away though. We're looking at a four night over night stay in San Antonio. It's where we went for our honeymoon so it has some nostalgia factor for us, and it's only an hour and half away so no plane tickets and if we need to come back early it's not nearly as big of a deal. They have plenty of great hotels and restaurants, so while it won't be WDW it'll still be a nice anniversary getaway.
Oh my! That is awful about the car! And TERRIBLE about having to cancel your anniversary trip!!!!!!! :sad2::sad1::hug: But, I know what you mean-this was a trip you wanted to splurge on, not think about the dollars and just ENJOY to the fullest extent--it just wouldn't be the same as a budget trip. That's what I keep telling myself. Maybe next year! And it'll still give us something to look forward to!! and to PLAN ! We are still tenatively planning a trip in November with my sister and FGM. No Mr. I. :sad2: But it would be more the budget kinda trip and I'd have the boys with me so no worry of how they are doing at home with Mom.
Don't you just hate that? I try to think that they are oblivious and not just being rude. At least to give them the benefit of the doubt but seriously? ? Look around you, people! There are others that have been waiting longer than you! And honestly, if they'd wait, their pictures would be better too!
All the pics of Dash are adorable. I think it's funny that kids get in that "take a picture of me!" mood--and with the digital cameras of course they want to see every-single-picture you took too!
Exactly! I had to let him see every picture. There were other days he was so over pictures. It's just gonna get worse as he gets older and hormonal!
Sounds like a fun...but exhausting...night at DTD. I love WPE too, so YUMMY!
And Goofy's....:cloud9: I love those pretzel rods!! I'm going to have to try the apple next time, it looks delish. I could eat it for breakfast the next day. Apples=fruit, chocolate has milk in it....good enough! ;)
I totally agree about the apple for breakfast. And lunch or dinner!! I first discovered them Halloween of 06 and try to limit myself to one every 6 mths or so. If I let myself I'd be down to our local outlet mall weekly, where they make them at Rocky Mountain Candy Factory! It was an exhausting night, and it was an exhausting day that had followed another exhausting day. Those were our two busiest days for sure!
Dash's toy looks awesome! And score on it being on clearance! :thumbsup2
I know! I was super excited. Dash takes after me and seems to always pick out something that isn't on sale. I always like the full priced items in a store, even before I look at the cost. It's a curse I tell ya!
Men are men. I know the Men are from Mars, Women are from Venus thing is prolly nonsense but I swear sometimes it's true! They speak a different language, and certainly hear a different language that comes out of women's mouths!! The treats were YUMMY ! I 'd kill for some right now but alas they'd be a whole day's worth of WW points if not MORE!
Thanks for the condolences regarding our anniversary trip! I'm not quite as :sad1: as I was when I called to cancel. That call was PAINFUL! But it'll be worth the wait to have the trip I want to have. And there's nothing wrong with celebrating a 6th anniversary! :rolleyes1
Thanks for the pixie dust!! It was really needed and seems to be helping!
I could kick myself for not realizing Goofy's was so cool years ago. To think of all the pretzel rods and apples I've missed over the years! :lmao:
I should have asked them to cut the apple but by that time, after everything that day I was ready to just go! She didn't offer, I didn't see a knife so it never occured to me to ask. But don't worry. We eat it...eventually!
Bummer yes but sometimes ya gotta roll with it. This isn't our first trip we've had to cancel because of timing or money or whatever. We had to cancel a Vegas trip in September 06 and were able to go in March 07 so things work out!
We last left off with exhausted people turning in for bed Sunday night, after saying goodbye to Honey and Frozone. I had told the moms that I had us planned to sleep in the next day and they were both relieved to get some much needed shut eye. The only things we needed to cover at MK were Tomorrowland and Spectro and Wishes, with some Main Street shopping thrown in. Dash wanted to ride Splash Mountain again but I wasn't making any promises. For one thing it had warmed up considerably by then so I was guessing the wait was going to be much longer and for another it was at the opposite end of the park where we had plans to be. I made no promises.
We headed down for a late breakfast, and left Mary Poppins in the room to get ready. We brought her back a to go breakfast of bacon and a boiled egg and found that our room had already been cleaned.
These guys were waiting on the beds when we got back to the room:
http://i285.photobucket.com/albums/ll60/myjanboys/DSC00698-1.jpg
This little guy Jack-Jack had grabbed off of a display at the toy store the night before. Ironically enough I had already been eyeing him as a potential Jack-Jack souvie in every gift shop I had been since the first day we had arrived. Jack-Jack apparently agreed because he helped himself to him!
http://i285.photobucket.com/albums/ll60/myjanboys/DSC00699-1.jpg
Dash's boo bear all snug in his bed! Dash had done the same thing that Jack-Jack had done with baby Simba. He plucked him right off of a rack at Babies R Us when he was about 10 months old. :love: He's lost him like 1500 times and I swear I get more upset than Dash does. But he always seems to show back up.
http://i285.photobucket.com/albums/ll60/myjanboys/DSC00700.jpg
We also found this in the window and balloons floating around in the room. Another birthday surprise that I had not planned on! pixiedust:
We headed out to the parks arriving a little after noon Disney time. Told ya we took our time that morning. :rotfl:
We stopped for some pictures that we were too in a hurry to take the first MK day:
http://i285.photobucket.com/albums/ll60/myjanboys/DSC00704.jpg
The sun was bright that day!
http://i285.photobucket.com/albums/ll60/myjanboys/DSC00702.jpg
Notice the matching shirts the g-ma's had on. I had them made for each of them for Christmas with just such a picture in mind!
We made our way in to the park, picking up Dash's stroller along the way.
http://i285.photobucket.com/albums/ll60/myjanboys/DSC00706.jpg
First glimpse down Main Street.
We were greeted with the marching band. At this point Jack-Jack had fallen asleep in his stroller. SCORE! We'd had all the time in the world to shop and take our time and let Jack-Jack sleep. Except when I leaned over to lay his stroller down I smelled *IT*. He was in need of a diaper change in the worst way. And no matter how tempted I was to let him sleep, with his fair skin I knew better. I just couldn't leave him stinky. So we headed to the bathrooms by the fire station and woke Jack-Jack up for a diaper change. Foolishly I thought that he'd go back to sleep once back in his stroller. WRONG! He was cranky but wasn't going back to sleep anytime soon!
I had already decided to skip getting Jack-Jack's haircut. I think my babies grow their hair quicker than most people. Most first hair cut stories that I've read here on the DIS are on older toddlers and this momma wasn't feeling like letting her baby grow up so soon on this trip. He had just turned 1! It wouldn't hurt for him to have shaggy hair for a bit longer. Plus I had been the first one to cut Dash's hair and was feeling weird now that it was upon me to let someone else give Jack-Jack his first haircut.
So we headed down the shops on the left side of Main Street, passing right by the barber shop. I love these shops and love how you can connect between the two the whole way down! We stopped to try on some hats and ended up making a few purchases.
http://i285.photobucket.com/albums/ll60/myjanboys/DSC00710.jpg
Tried on but didn't buy it-though he was pretty stinking cute in it if I say so myself. BUT he already had the POC Mickey Ears and I just couldn't justify the pirate ones too.
http://i285.photobucket.com/albums/ll60/myjanboys/DSC00709.jpg
Just trying them on...
http://i285.photobucket.com/albums/ll60/myjanboys/DSC00708.jpg
and purchased them ! They were too cute to not get! Course he wouldn't leave them on his head but oh well! A memory right? They are currently hanging in his room.
I tried on several headbands with Minnie Ears before I found these puppies:
http://i285.photobucket.com/albums/ll60/myjanboys/DSC00713.jpg
Me posing for what would be several more twinnie pictures.
Love them!! I can't do headbands much because I get a headache but these babies just clip in on the sides of the head. This picture was supposed to be a twinnie picture that Sare (faerieprincess) was going to try to match exactly so we could show how much we do favor. She didn't get to take any of our matching pictures though. :( Maybe next trip!! She and Jess did pick up the ears though so I'm glad they got to find them early enough in the trip to have a bunch of pictures in them!
We exited the stores at the back by Casey's and headed across the street to Tomorrowland via Noodle Terrace.
We stopped for more photo ops! I was determined to make up for what I perceived as not having enough pictures taken at this point in the trip.
http://i285.photobucket.com/albums/ll60/myjanboys/DSC00716.jpg
Dash being a dork! I'm his mother and I'm a dork so I can say that. :rotfl:
Dash getting his handsome model pose on.
http://i285.photobucket.com/albums/ll60/myjanboys/DSC00720.jpg
Another twinnie pic. My whole idea was to make it fun for Sare to find the spots I had taking the pictures so I was going for not obvious locations. I may have done too good of a job! :lmao:
We made our way over to Tomorrowland, grabbed FPs for Buzz Lightyear and headed over to Carousel of Progress after parking the strollers.
The CoP sign... this ride is one of my faves from waaaaaay back.
We got on the ride and away we went around. Sure enough, the sitting down in a dark room made Jack-Jack fussy... probably really tired after falling asleep and then being so rudely woken up for something as trivial as a poopy diaper change! I had prepared, I thought for this, because we were sitting in the very back left hand corner with Mr. I sitting to my right and the g-ma's and Dash in front of us. I had a blanket. I was covered. So I popped out the goods. I finally broke down and did it. No one could see me, and seriously it IS a normal natural part of life right?? I still felt kinda icky popping the girls out in the middle of a ride at Disney but if it was what I had to do to get Jack-Jack to make it through the ride so I could enjoy it then so be it.
Except Jack-Jack was having none of it. He was squirming and trying to get off my lap. I tried feeding him a bottle instead but no go. So, not wanting to distract any of the other riders, (there were maybe 10 people in our theater other than us) I told Mr. I was stepping out with Jack-Jack and would meet him on a bench in front when it was over.
I had been on the ride enough to know that the ride was not going to be advancing any time soon. And it's not like it spins quickly or anything. The Exit sign did not say Emergency. So I carefully opened the door and quickly stepped across the threshold. No big deal. Or so I thought.
Jack-Jack was pacified immediately being outside. We were taking our time walking slowly around the walkway on the back half of CoP. There was no need to hurry because we would have to wait for them to finish their journey through time anyway. About halfway around the circle I hear someone running around the bend. I look up to see a CM running, red faced and out of breath. He panted "Are you ok?" And I'm like "Yeah 'course. He just got fussy." He goes "Oh" and then says "We have to get you back to the front of the ride, this area is restricted."
Um ok...
I follow him, picking up the speed and I start putting two and two together. I hadn't seen the ride move around since I had left.
Stupidly I blurt out "OMG did I just make the ride stop?" The CM says "Yes M'am. The ride goes on emergency shut down anytime the doors are opened. It's very dangerous because people could be crushed if the walls move when they are stepping out."
I try to explain to him that I hadn't known it was an emergency exit, that there was no sign that said EMERGENCY exit, and that I had ridden enough time to know I was in no danger. He had radioed ahead earlier that he "had me and that everything is ok" but the ride had still not resumed. I ask him how they get it to start again and he says "Oh I have to get back around and put this little red pull card back in the machine." :scared1:
Well what the heck are you doing strolling lazily around with me!! Get back to the machine and get it started again!
I basically said exactly that. I was mortified. YET AGAIN. I had managed to stop the entire Carousel of Progress for probably about 10 mins.
Honest to God I didn't know. I just saw the Exit sign and stepped out. So if any of you were on the ride that day, I'm truly sorry!!
Jack-Jack and I waited on a bench for our family to meet up with us, after retrieving his stroller from the stroller park.
As the people started to exit in waves, I'm quite sure I looked appropriately sheepish and was failing miserably in pretending it hadn't been me that had stopped the ride!
Mr. I informed me that the loud speaker had only come on about 20 times saying "Please remain in your seats. Please do not use the Exit doors unless it is an emergency" or something like that. And all the lights came up, the music stopped etc. I wanted to go hide somewhere.
Now its pretty darn :lmao:
The window for our Buzz Lightyear Ranger Spin FP was open, so Mr. I and I went over to get SM FPs first. They were good in about another hour or so, so we knew we needed to stay in Tomorrowland. No problem. We had FPs for Rangerspin and I kinda wanted to try Cosmic Ray's for a late lunch.
When we got back to where we had parked everyone, Dash has made friends with a CM that was going to culinary school in Orlando and on a work program with WDW. She gave Dash a pin even though he didn't have a lanyard or any pins to trade. :lovestruc
I think her name was Jessica. (HA It helps to read her nametag !!)She was awesome!!
We decided we would go ride Toy Story after that, but Mary Poppins didn't feel like riding so we left her parked with Jack-Jack trying to get him to sleep in his stroller again.
The four of us went on the ride. Dash loved it and we got lots of pictures in the queue and after the ride.
So cute! What a wonderful surprise!
Love it! :rotfl2:
The scarf, Mickey ears hat and Minnie ears are really cute too!
Don't feel bad about "popping out the goods"-YES, it's a very natural thing and it's best for your little man! Henry never nursed nicely, so I pumped for MONTHS AND MONTHS! You were very modest about it-don't worry! :goodvibes
And oh my word...that is HILARIOUS about stopping CoP! Scary about it possibly CRUSHING you though!!!! :scared1: This so sounds like something I would have done. I'm going to have to remember to look on that ride in December to see if they have added "Emergency" to the sign!
I hope to be back on the DIS soon everyone.
Jack-Jack caught the stomach flu last week and gave it to everyone in the family except Dash.
Dash got a cold-like virus and it's been complicated by a pneumococcal infection in his eyes, ears, and lungs-basically pneumonia with a secondary infrection in his eyes and both ears.
And now Jack-Jack is starting to show the same symptoms that Dash started out with last week.
So it's kinda hairy around here.
I hope to get an update out as soon as both boys start feeling better. That's assuming of course I don't catch the cold-like virus in addition to the stomach flu!!
:sick:
Thanks for hanging in there! I'm almost done!!!
I didn't tell you cus I had to leave some surprises for the TR. :rotfl: I'm sorry too... but I understand. It would have been cool though to have pictures of us at the same places, since Disney World is the only place in the world we've both been.
I can't stop laughing about you stopping the COP. I know it was probably mortifying but it's still hilarious. ;) I would totally do something like that. Now don't shoot me but I have never done the COP. Where is it at exactly?
Glad to provide a few chuckles. I can laugh now but I wanted to hide behind a tree when all those poor people came out of the CoP. I mean, I didn't just stop the ride for the people in the theater I was in... but for all the theaters ahead and behind us. It was only the people in our theater that knew it was me, but still!! I wanted to melt into the pavement.
CoP is right behind Ranger Spin. It's great, kinda in the spirit of Spaceship Earth in that it shows a journey through time. Try it!! I love it, but realize I may love it more for my own personal nostalgia reasons than for any other.
It looked like a gorgeous day for MK. I liked your Minnie Ears. I also liked the Grandma's t-shirts.
I can't believe you stopped the CoP. :lmao: I would have just died.
I wanted to die, for sure!! I love those Minnie Ears. I saw them on a lady on a bus one day and thought she was wearing her hair Princess Leia style til I noticed the bow. Then noticed they were ears! It took a while for it to process. She was the only lady I saw with those ears all week. I had to ask the cm in the hat shop in Main Street where to find the clip on ears. They were in the costume shop, not the hat shop. So there ya go! Love them.
The G-ma's shirt looked great. There's a poem my mom likes that says "When I am an old lady, I shall wear purple" so that's why they were both lavender.
The weather was beautiful that day but man the park was CROWDED. The CM I talked to at Ranger Spin said it had been dead just the day before. It was because we were there on EMH days. Live and learn!
Thanks Brook!!! You're so supportive!! :hug:
Let me know about the Emergency sign since it looks like you'll be back before we can return. I don't think I was in any danger of being crushed because a) I knew it wasn't going to be rotating any time soon because I knew the pacing of the show, b) because the whole thing turns reaaaaaaaaaally slowly and c) because it took me all of 3 secs to step across the barrier. I was careful. But I get why they have to be careful with that ride.
There are just too many things in the last installment that made me laugh! Popping out the girls in CoP - STOPPING CoP, nearly being crushed to death on CoP! :rotfl2:
Yeah I didn't talk to Jessica, just got the story from my mom. I wondered about them putting her to work on custodial duty if she was training to be a chef. Surely they had a position in a restaurant... but maybe they rotate them around to different positions. Or maybe she secured the job through Disney separately from her school and I misunderstood the internship being through Disney. :confused3
Glad you laughed !! :laughing:
Thank you everyone for the well wishes! Jack-Jack finished his last dose of antibiotics yesterday. Of course, now with the Swine Flu one town over, we're worried about all of that on top of everything else we've had this winter. :eek:
We left off outside of CoP, after just riding Ranger Spin. Jack-Jack had finally fallen asleep in his stroller, after fighting it most of the day. If you’ll remember he had fallen asleep right as we had come in the park and I had to wake him up to change a stinky diaper, so you know he was tired and grumpy and in much need of a nap.
We decided to head over to Cosmic Rays to eat lunch, thinking this would be a good way to give Jack-Jack time to sleep and us a chance to fill up our bellies. Mr. I and I had reservations that night for Wolfgang Puck Café but both knew we probably were not going to be able to keep that reservation. It was for 10:30pm and it was more important to me to let the grandma’s get to bed early so we could get to Epcot early enough the next day to get Soarin’ FPs.
As I am suggesting we head over to Cosmic Ray’s, Mary Poppins says the following “ I'll stay here with Jack-Jack while y'all eat. Just bring me back a hot dog. We should let sleeping dogs lie."
At this point, after 6 days of one thing after another on our all over the map vacation, this is what her I heard her say “ You are a bad mother for even thinking about pushing a sleeping baby in a stroller anywhere. How could you even consider pushing him anywhere?.”
Now I’m not saying that how I heard it was how she intended it… but by this point, I wasn’t exactly rational. I think everyone has heard an in-law say something that hurt their feelings and made them feel like a bad parent or bad spouse, when in actuality that probably wasn’t how they meant it. Well this was like that.
I was beyond upset. We left her on a bench with Jack-Jack in his stroller sleeping, and the rest of us went to Cosmic Ray’s to eat. I had the chicken and rib combo and shared it with my mom. I think Mr. I got the chicken sandwich and Dash ate chicken strip nuggets. I don’t remember much of this meal. I was too busy fuming verbally. :mad: I mean a large part of taking a stroller to Disney is to be able to push the kid around once he or she is asleep! I didn’t see the harm in pushing him into a air conditioned restaurant 100 yards away. It’s not like he had a history of waking up when we moved the stroller. He had slept all over the park, as evidenced by many pictures in this TR!
I think looking back now, Mary Poppins was tired too and was probably using Jack-Jack as an excuse to stay put. But obviously, I’m still a little ticked about the implication of it all! I love her, I don’t think she meant to upset me…. But she did. And to be fair, my own parents and siblings and friends have said things that I took as a personal commentary on something I was doing wrong. I think everyone can relate to this. People we love and are close to can push our buttons more than anyone else can!
Jack-Jack still sound asleep when we got back to their bench.
After Cosmic Ray’s, we went back over to take Mary Poppins her hot dog, and then headed over to ride Space Mountain. Only to find it closed for technical difficulty. Wonderful. By this time it was probably 4pm. We waited around, about 30 mins, and were just about to give up on our Fps, when they opened the ride up again. Mr. I and I rode it without Dash so I could figure out if I thought Dash should ride it. Poor Mr. I was crammed into that little spaceship and ducking his head the whole time. He was scared he’d bing his head along the ride since he’s so tall. :rotfl2: Not funny but it kinda is. I mean Disney would have a maximum height requirement if it was going to be an issue.
After we rode it, we decided we didn’t want to ride it again and that it would most likely scare Dash, especially since he would have to sit alone. I am excited to ride it again next trip and see what changes they’ve made, though.
We met back up with FGM, Mary Poppins and Dash to find Jack-Jack awake. We headed over to Main Street, giving our extra SM Fps along the way to two girls that didn’t know what they were when I first offered them. They actually walked away saying no thanks, then turned back around and tracked us down to say they had changed their minds and would take them. We found a bench off of Main Street and got ice cream. I headed to the bakery to get an ice cream sandwich while Mr. I got ice cream for everyone else from the ice cream parlor. I ended up getting banana nut bread pudding instead… at least that’s what I think it was called. It called to me and they didn't have a great selection of cookies, at least that were on display. It was ok, but I wish I had gotten the ice cream instead. Mr. I brought back a wicked looking hot fudge sundae.
http://i285.photobucket.com/albums/ll60/myjanboys/DSC00747.jpg
Jack-Jack really enjoyed the ice cream! I believe this was his first ice cream cone eating attempt.
http://i285.photobucket.com/albums/ll60/myjanboys/DSC00748.jpg
Ice cream?? What ice cream?! I didn't eat any ice cream!
We ate the ice cream on the bench and just soaked in the Main Street atmosphere. As we sat there, people started sitting on the curbs to get ready for the 7pm parade. It wasn’t even 5pm yet. Wowzer. I’ve never seen people lining up 2 hrs early… maybe I’m out of parade squatting practice.
We decided to stay on our bench and watch the parade from there. There weren’t anymore rides we wanted to cover. The grandmom’s were tired and I knew better than to expect them to sit on a curb for two hours for prime seats. We took turns pushing Jack-Jack around, and saving space on the benches while we went into all the Main Street shops.
Dash stopped to pose for me on Main Street.
http://i285.photobucket.com/albums/ll60/myjanboys/DSC00774.jpg
All smiles and happy!
I could sit on Main Street for hours, just feeling Main Street-esque. The parade started and the crowds between our little bench and the parade really packed in, so Mr. I put Dash up on his shoulders and we tried to stand up enough to see it. At that point, as tired as we all were, it was more important to have a place to sit, than to have a great view. We managed to see enough of it, though when Mr. I and I take our couple trip, we are going to try our best to get a front row spot!
http://i285.photobucket.com/albums/ll60/myjanboys/DSC00784.jpg
http://i285.photobucket.com/albums/ll60/myjanboys/DSC00785.jpg
Mr. I holding a 64 lb Dash on his shoulders. My hero!! :lovestruc
After the parade was over, I decided we should head further up Main Street toward the exit, so we wouldn’t be dealing with the massive cattle drive that happens at the end of Wishes. Jack-Jack was getting fussy and I didn’t want to push a stroller full of screaming baby out of the parks in a full on crowd. I headed to the candy shop and bought Dash some more cotton candy, his favorite, and Jack-Jack his very own lollipop. This was my last ditch effort to keep him happy long enough to watch Wishes. We found a spot against the rail by the Flag Pole. Not the best viewing spot I’ve experience but a worthy compromise considering all the factors at play.
http://i285.photobucket.com/albums/ll60/myjanboys/DSC00794.jpg
My cheeks feel all weird!! Why won't they move?!
http://i285.photobucket.com/albums/ll60/myjanboys/DSC00801.jpg
More cotton candy!! Score!!
The lights dimmed….. on the front half of Main Street. They didn’t dim the lights back on the Flag Pole half. I thought they would… this surprised me. But nothing I could do about it. The music started and the fireworks began and I got that happy feeling. That feeling you get when everything is as it should be, and all is right in your world.
And that feeling lasted for all of 3 mins. Jack-Jack was done with the lollipop. There was no more distracting Jack-Jack. He was D O N E DONE! He was screaming, and nothing I did made it better. I held him, I bounced him and he still screamed. He had officially reached his melting down point. And I wasn’t about to let him ruin everyone else’s experience. I put him back in his stroller and pushed him to the exit. The rest of the family came too. We loitered outside the gates, catching as many fireworks as we could, but it wasn't the same as being right in front of the castle with the music and both sides of the castle in view. :sad2: I had attempted to see Wishes probably four times and was 0 for 4 this trip. Next trip I promised myself!!
The upside to leaving halfway through Wishes, was that we were first in line for the second bus and got to sit down on the way back to Pop. By this time, Jack-Jack had decided he was feeling ok again. :confused3
When we got back to the room, we gave the boy's a bath, and had dinner at Everything Pop with a pajama clad Jack-Jack. Dash got to play with his birthday gift from Honey and Frozone, which he loved loved loved. We turned in around 10pm knowing we had an early morning ahead of us the next day.
I also think there is absolutely nothing wrong with pushing a sleeping baby in a stroller. In fact, don't some love motion? I'm sorry you felt so bad. I would've done the same thing.
Jack-Jack sleeping in his stroller is one of the most precious pictures ever. He is such a cutie pie. Where can I buy a police uniform like Dash has? My son would LOVE that!
