We're back and we had an awesome time. We got home about 6:30pm. Stopped on the way in and picked up the dog from the kennel and we've unloaded the van and most everything is put away and I'm on the second load of laundry. I decided to DIS for a few minutes while eating some pizza we ordered in for supper.

I'll start getting the pictures downloaded either tonight or tomorrow night and try to start the real report then. I have to be at work at 7:00am tomorrow morning and youngest DD, Kerri starts school in the morning. So things are a little rushed for us right now.

Anyway, I just wanted to say we're back and we had a terrific time and I can't wait to share it with everyone.

We had our mini-DIS-meet on Sunday with Pooksma and Declansdad and also with Nicole and David and also with Memom on the phone. It was so much fun meeting them. I have a great group shot I'll post later on. My DD's met Mocharilla (sp?) at Pop one day also. I'm looking forward to catching up on all of your all's reports this week. Talk to you all real soon!!!

Me first?
If I click SUBMIT and I am first, I think it'll be my first first to a TR, so here goes!

P. S. Can't wait to see the pictures and to hear how you liked Pop. OKay, running to be first!

Back to say, "YESSSSS!" with that big arm gesture thing that goes along with that. "I did it! Yay me!"

(Too bad on EDIT I can't add a dancing banana.)

For those who have not read the Pre-Trip and are just joining in now. Welcome. Let me quickly tell you about us.

T = DH - Tracy, Pastor of the local First Church of God
C = DW that's me - I'm Cathy and work for the local police department
K = Oldest DD - Kelli age 16 and is a Junior
K = Youngest DD - Kerri age 13 and is a 7th Grader

Our trip dates were August 5th-17, 2008.

We left Ohio on Tuesday, August 5th around 4:40AM. Kerri was a little grouchy (she is definitely not a morning person), Kelli was being obnoxious in a fun way so far. Mom (me) is already threatening eveyone and Dad is singing "On the Road Again" (you know, the Willie Nelson song). What a way to start a trip. ;)

Here are a couple of pictures before we pulled out of the driveway.

Dad and the girls

Most of the day was spent driving. We had lunch at Hardees and spent the night in Valdosta, Georgia. After checking in we had dinner at Cracker Barrel and the girls and I went swimming. That's pretty much it for Day 1.

Coming soon - Arrival at Pop Century!!

It's unbelievable we were that close and didn't see each other at Pop. I'm glad the girls at least ran into you. I think I saw your DF in Japan at WS the same day you saw the girls at POP. I wish I would have spoken up, but I wasn't sure it was him.

I'm here!

Glad to have you Nicole. I'm enjoying reading your report right now too. HRH and Universal look so cool!

Hi vdarrell. Welcome to our report. My DH was born and raised in Middletown. His family still lives there so we are there quite often.

I'm looking forward to hearing about your DIS meet. In spite of Fay, there will be several this weekend. :thumbsup2

Welcome to our report. The Dismeet occurred on the 10th so that will come later in the report. One of the others may get to it before I do. It was really fun! I hope the meets planned for this weekend do occur. It really is fun to get to meet Dis'ers in person.

Welcome back! I'm looking forward to hearing about your mini dis-meet. they sound like a fun bunch of people. :goodvibes

Thanks and Welcome back to you guys too. They were a great bunch of people. I just hope they had as much fun as we did.

Thought I'd add a couple more pictures from our 1st day of travel. Memom these are for you. This is from the Temporary Welcome Center of your lovely state of Tennessee (I love Tennessee). In fact, we're planning a short trip right after Christmas before the girls go back to school in January to Pigeon Forge and Gatlinburg. I love to go at that time with all the Christmas decorations. They are so pretty.

The original welcome center is closed down for remodeling and they had a temporary place set up. Here are the girls and me with Dolly Parton

And how lovely I know they are, too. But, alas, I am at school, and all I can see are those darned red X boxes.

I shall look forward to seeing them when I get home.

Tennessee does have some loveliness to it. I don't see much of it other than my well-traveled triangle of home-school-church. I keep saying I'm going to do a weekend trip to Gatlinburg in the fall, because it is beautiful, but then I think about all the money, and I'd rather spend it on Disney trips. One day, when I'm tired of Disney, I will do that. I d like to shop up there at all the neat shops!

Day 2:

Our hotel the first night was in Valdosta, Georgia about 16 miles north of the Florida border. We got up, ate a continental breakfast at the hotel and crossed the Florida border about 7:50am.

Here’s a picture of the Welcome to Florida sign
http://i279.photobucket.com/albums/kk151/tckk_photos/Disney%202008/08-06-08%20Day%202/IMG_0578.jpg

Yeah, we’re really in Florida. We hit the Florida Welcome Center just a few minutes before 8:00 and took the obligatory pictures.

http://i279.photobucket.com/albums/kk151/tckk_photos/Disney%202008/08-06-08%20Day%202/IMG_0579.jpg

http://i279.photobucket.com/albums/kk151/tckk_photos/Disney%202008/08-06-08%20Day%202/IMG_0581.jpg

They open at 8:00am and start serving orange and grapefruit juice right away. I just don’t feel like I’m in Florida until I get the free cup of juice. I did that with my family when I was a little girl and now we do it with our girls. I just love family traditions, don’t you?

http://i279.photobucket.com/albums/kk151/tckk_photos/Disney%202008/08-06-08%20Day%202/IMG_0585-1.jpg

Here are some other pictures we took at the Welcome Center.

And it's really good juice too. If you guys ever drive down (and I think I remember your DH saying something about doing that sometime) you really must stop there. It's a fun tradition we love doing.

I had the Chicken Penne Pasta

and Kelli had Parmesan Crusted Chicken
http://i279.photobucket.com/albums/kk151/tckk_photos/Disney%202008/08-06-08%20Day%202/IMG_0632.jpg

Next we went to a Dollar Store to get 2 balloons for the room to keep the air conditioner running. We had read here on the DIS that the air conditioners have motion detectors and that if you put a balloon in the room with a fan there will be enough movement to fool the sensors. I don’t know if it’s true or not, but our room was always cool when we came back after being away for hours. Anyway, we came back then and unpacked the van and got the room all set up. We hung a shower curtain between the room and the sink area, which gave us a really nice dressing area, which really helps when you have teenage girls.

After this the girls and I went swimming in the Bowling Pin Pool and later we headed to one of the parks. Will put this in the next report.

Most of the time I'm the photographer too, but I determined this trip I was going to be in some of the pictures too. The girls have always tried to get me to be in the pictures, but usually I resist. Not this time. I decided I wanted proof that I was there too.

Welcome former Lebanon person. I've lived in or around Lebanon, Morrow or Middletown all my life. I love it. I've worked in Lebanon for the past 32 years. I think it's a pretty neat town. Welcome to our report and I hope you enjoy it.

What a great feeling it is to drive under that magical arch! Did you know you can see it from the top of the Roger Rabbit building?

We were in the jukebox building last summer - just to the left of the jukebox (if looking at it from the pool) on the ground floor. We were just a few steps away from the pool.

The food looks good. My boys get that penne pasta about three times on every trip.

Looking forward to more soon!

You're welcome and I hope you enjoy your stay there as much as we did.

I have read about the balloon trick before, but I honestly don't remember ever coming back to the room and not having it cool.

I don't know if it made a difference either, but it sure didn't hurt anything. :) The room was definitely cool each day.

Yes, the last time we stayed at Pop I saw that sign from there. We were quite a bit farther from the pool in the building directly behind the jukebox, plus we were on the 4th floor, but with the elevator, that was no problem at all and it was very quiet back there. We didn't have much view because of all the trees, but that's ok, we didn't mind at all since we didn't stay in the room that much anyway. The penne pasta was very good. I think I had it twice this time and probably 3 or 4 times when we were there 2 years ago. :rotfl: Hope to post more either tonight or tomorrow.

I'm with your DH- love that flatbread.

You are making me want to stay at POP again already!:lmao:

He loved that flatbread and so did my youngest DD. I never tried it though. Oh well, there's always next time, I hope.

Nice pictures of POP! The food looks good--I think I'd have a hard time choosing between the parmesan crusted chicken and the flat bread!

They're both good and I must say their portion sizes are very generous. If you walk away hungry, it's not POP's fault. Hoping to post more tonight or maybe tomorrow.

Ok. Now on to the first park of our trip. We headed to the buses around 5:00 and arrived at DHS at 5:20pm.

When we first got there, this was going by, so I took a quick pic.
http://i279.photobucket.com/albums/kk151/tckk_photos/Disney%202008/08-06-08%20Day%202/IMG_0640.jpg

Then I just took random shots of the main street there. There were very few times I was without my camera in my hand while we were in the parks. If you get bored seeing the pictures, let me know. I took around 1,000, but I promise not to put all of them on here.

As you can see below we’re heading towards ToT and RnRC. We ended up riding RnRC first. In fact, we didn’t do ToT until later in the week.
http://i279.photobucket.com/albums/kk151/tckk_photos/Disney%202008/08-06-08%20Day%202/IMG_0648.jpg

Here are the girls and I (remember I’m the photographer) waiting in line for RnRC. DH doesn’t do coasters. The last time he road one was a stand-up coaster at Kings Island and he prayed to God, if you let me get off this alive, I’ll never ride another one. God answered his prayer and he’s stayed true to his promise. :)

Ah finally inside where it’s cool
http://i279.photobucket.com/albums/kk151/tckk_photos/Disney%202008/08-06-08%20Day%202/IMG_0655.jpg

I just realized that those are the neck or strings and frets of a guitar. Man, Disney has such neat detail in their decorations.
http://i279.photobucket.com/albums/kk151/tckk_photos/Disney%202008/08-06-08%20Day%202/IMG_0656.jpg

I didn’t take any pictures of the actual ride. I was too nervous. I love riding them, but they scare me to death. :scared1: I’m always afraid for some reason, I’ll be the one whose shoulder harness doesn’t work and I’ll fall out. I know, it’s crazy, but that’s still the way I feel. Anyway, the girls and I loved this ride. But as it turned out, this was the only time we rode it this trip. We just never made it back there.

After that we were hungry and went to the ABC Commissary for dinner.
Tracy, Kerri and I had the Cuban Sandwich. It was really good.
http://i279.photobucket.com/albums/kk151/tckk_photos/Disney%202008/08-06-08%20Day%202/IMG_0668.jpg
And Kelli had the Ugly Betty Cheeseburger. She didn’t know until she started eating it that it was a veggie burger. She didn’t like it at all and said it was too dry.
http://i279.photobucket.com/albums/kk151/tckk_photos/Disney%202008/08-06-08%20Day%202/IMG_0666.jpg

I'll continue shortly.

After this, we realized Kelli was feeling pretty bad. She had a bad headache. So we left and headed back to Pop. DH and Kelli stayed in the room and Kerri and I went swimming again. Then we all hit the sack so we could be up and at it again in the morning. Thankfully Kelli was fine in the morning.

Next up will be our first morning in MK.

This was about what it was every day when we were there, as well. It's been just as hot here, though.

Sorry to hear you had a sick girl, but I'm glad it didn't last long.

Nice GMR pictures!

I love that you took a lot of pictures! Bring 'em on! :thumbsup2

Sounds like it was a good first day, aside from Kelli getting a headache. My sympathies are with her; I can get headaches in the heat and bright sun pretty easily, and it makes me absolutely miserable! So I'm very glad she was fine the next morning. :goodvibes

It's really hot here too. I was just telling DH, it may be hot in Florida in August, but at least there I was wearing shorts, most of the time here I don't. We were out today in jeans and man was it hot.

She usually gets a headache when she is out in the bright sun too much. Fortunately she seemed fine most of the rest of the trip. She had a few small headaches, but they went away when she took Tylenol or Aspirin. Thanks you guys for caring.

Yes, we have lots of pictures. I'll post again soon.

Hi, I joined the DIS while you were away. Glad to be here for the begining of the TR. Our trips sound so familiar. My DS14 loves Cracker Barrel (we don't have them in Canada), we always eat there the first night. I too have always stoppd at the Welome center for pics and juice since I was a little girl. Last year we missed out because they were closed on Labor Day - who knew? I felt like I was missing something. I love the idea of the shower curtain, my DS is older now and he travels with three girls. It would give us more room to change, than the bathroom :thumbsup2 The food looked yummy. Never been on RoRC or ToT. I may get the courage next year. I know I'm a chicken. :scared1: Great pics so far, can't wait to read more. :)

Welcome to the DIS and to my report. I love Cracker Barrel and we had really good food that night only we had to wait a little longer than normal for it because they dropped it when they first tried to bring it to us. We heard a loud crash and I said I bet that's our dinner. A minute later they came out and told us it was. :rotfl: We didn't mind the extra wait though because we were playing Madlibs at the table and having fun with that.

The shower curtain really worked well for us. It gave so much more privacy for a bigger space. The bathrooms just aren't quite big enough to have to change clothes in too. Plus with the extra space most of the time both girls would go in at the same time one which made things a little faster. Although with 2 teen girls getting ready it's never fast.

ToT and RnRC both scare me, but I keep riding them anyway :lmao: Give them a try. They're actually fun!!

Great so far!!!! Makes me feel like I am there!!! Great pics! :goodvibes

Glad your enjoying everything. I'll try to post more soon. We had a storm last night and lost power for a couple of hours and I now have a wet spot on my ceiling. So, I may not get to it tonight because I have someone coming over to check my roof. I don't think it's a major problem, but we have to get it fixed right away before it rains again. So in other words, the next report may not be tonight. :) But please don't give up on me. I'll get it soon.

I'm so glad you're enjoying it. I'm not sure that I took a picture this trip of the shower curtain, but I know I have one from our last trip. We just use a regular shower curtain rod (like you'd use for a bathtub shower and put it between the bathroom door side of the wall to the other side. It had to be on the smallest setting and it still hung a little crooked, but it held and worked well. Never slipped one time. Let me see if I can find the photo (I know I've posted it on the POP Century picture thread before. Here it is. You can see it in the background. Hope this helps.

Well no more report tonight. I got a pretty quick start on it when we got home, but life keeps stepping in a getting in the way, so, I'm a little slow getting to it right now. We did get our roof fixed tonight. My wonderful brother-in-law came over and fixed it for us. He was so sweet to do this and we so appreciate it. But after that I had to finish getting ready for our Bible study tomorrow night (I was behind because of the electric outage), plus because I went on a house cleaning binge too. I can tell you that certainly doesn't happen often at this house  But anyway, I'm caught up on that now, so hopefully real soon I'll get another day started. I need to get some photos uploaded to Photobucket.

How handy to have all that info right there! :thumbsup2

Yes, it was nice to be able to check out all that info. at the pool. I really like all those signs and the decor at DHS. It's so nostalgic and I love that too. The Wizard of Oz is a great movie, although the Flying Monkeys used to scare me to death when I was a kid, but I love the music!!!! We love KI too, In fact, I worked there in the summers from the ages of about 16-19. We get seasons passes about every other year or so. Our girls really love to go there.

Have a great night everyone!

There's lots more from that day, but that’s all for tonight. I've gotta get some sleep so I can work in the morning. You know, we must pay those Disney bills after all. I’ll continue on with MK hopefully in the next day or so.

Day 3

I think this is such a beautiful area in MK and we had such a great morning weather wise. The sky is so blue. (Man, I wish I was back there)

Beautiful pictures. I, too, wish I could be standing there right now! Well, maybe in a few more hours, as it is 3:51 a.m., and they're not open right now.

The girls would pick the one with Johnny Depp, of course! Truthfully, he does nothing for me - just not my idea of good-looking, but he apparently is to millions. Maybe zillions. I'm in the minority on that one, I'm aware. I do think they did an excellent job on the figures of him, because he looks amazingly like Johnny Depp in the ride.

I like the Pirates shop pictures, of course! ;)

Actually, I agree with you too. He doesn't do a thing for me (now Orlando Bloom is another story ) Plus, (I hope I don't get flamed) I really don't care for the Pirate Movies that much either. But my girls do, so I've gone to see them. But I do however enjoy the ride and my girls love it and so does DH so as you'll see further in my report we rode it several times this trip. In fact, we met some pretty special people there and rode with them too!!

The chicken wrap was good. Yes we just finished supper. We had Tacos. It actually was a collaborative effort. Kelli came home from school and baked a marble cake. I browned the beef and iced the cake. DH added the taco spices and got all that together and Kerri and Kelli are washing and drying the dishes that DH and I didn't wash during the cooking. So supper is over and was pretty good. We'll have cake later.

I'll see what I can do about getting a little further into Day 3 yet tonight. Give me about an hour and hopefully I'll have another installation.

http://i279.photobucket.com/albums/kk151/tckk_photos/Disney%202008/08-07-08%20Day%203/IMG_0867.jpg

We had quite the adventure here. I have never in my life seen World of Disney as crowded as it was that night. I usually love this store but there were so many people in there that I didn’t stay long. The girls were having fun so I went out and sat with DH. After we left there we started heading back to the bus stop as it was lightening quite a bit and we were afraid we were in for a big storm. As we were walking back the lightening seemed to stop and we noticed a big group of people gathered and music playing out in the area where the water fountains are that the kids play in all the time. There was a guy there teaching people how to do the dance to Michael Jackson’s Thriller. I thought it looked like so much fun, but I couldn’t get the kids to do it with me. After that dance, he did the Electric Slide and then the Chicken Dance. Finally, one I could get everyone to do with me, even DH. I know we looked like total idiots and the girls made fun of me for the rest of the trip over that, but I still had a blast. We left after that and headed back to the room to hopefully go swimming.

Here’s where the adventure begins. Kelli was going through her stuff and looking at what she bought and checking her money, when she realized her wallet was gone. She started looking through everything. The last time she remembered seeing it was at World of Disney when she bought something. Now it was getting late and we didn’t know if they were still open or not. We found the phone number and she called and talked to someone and they said they had found her wallet and they would still be open for just a short while. They said if you come back tonight and the store is closed, just knock and someone would come and give her the wallet. So, we all jumped into the car and drove back over there. I drove and DH was the navigator because I had no idea how to get there and he wasn’t real sure in the dark how to get there. Anyway, the parking lot was still packed and World of Disney was still open. The lot was marked full so there was no where to park. We dropped Kelli off as close as we could get to the store and drove around the parking lot a couple of times while she was inside. Finally she came back out and they did indeed have her wallet and miracle of miracles, all her money was still there. Wow, what a relief!! Of course, by the end of the trip her money was missing again!!!

That's an adventure alright, and not one I ever care to have! I am very glad she was able to get it back quickly with all of the contents intact.

I have read rumors that the Family Fun Day Parade will be closing, but I can't remember if they said when, or if they were planning to replace it with something else. I'm glad to see it is still hanging in there. I heard several weeks back that Beauty and the Beast was going to be replaced with Aladdin. I'm of the mindset now that whatever they have, I'm doing it before they close it down or change it. Pocahontas, characters at Liberty Tree Tavern, 4 for a Dollar, food items, etc. being phased out - I'm doing whatever is available while it is available.

The castle shots are nice!

I bought this camera just a few months before we left and I was very happy with it. It's a Canon Power Shot A720 IS. It's small enough that I can carry it in my purse all the time, so I can have it wherever I go. Never know when a good photo op will present itself even out her in the real world.;)

They absolutely love to shop down there. Always have and probably always will. I'm glad nothing was missing from your car either. I was so glad to see her. It was totally unexpected, but I was fortunate and got a pretty good pic.

I know you really meant to say, "The first thing I would do is stop by TN and pick up MeMom, and then go to World of Disney." Right? :)

No MeMom, I think waht she really meant to say was, I'll call TCKK first so she and the girls can head to MeMom's and then I'll stop and pick them all up to go to World of Disney. ;)

Am SO glad your daughter got her wallet back with all her money! What a blessing that was (back in 1997 the morning we were to leave I had gone to the grocery store to pick up some water & then headed to Radio Shack for film for my daughter's camera and when I went to pay for the batteries, my wallet was missing. It had $1,000 cash in it, my credit cards, our airline and Disney confirmations! :scared1: Talk about panicked - I was taking 11 family members and this was everything we needed! I ran back to the store, checked with the store manager and an elderly couple had found it in the grocery cart and turned it in. He had no clue who they were and they never responded to my reward offer. I was truly blessed that day :cloud9: )

I am so enjoying your report and pictures. I love the castle too and can't seem to get enough pics of it so thanks for sharing!

Just read your TR so far - thank goodness Kelli got her wallet back and with everything in it! :thumbsup2 It's a good reminder that there are still nice people in the world.

As for photos - I took 5000 on our last trip so I love photos and never get sick of them!

Day 4

We had an early morning ADR for Boma’s. We had never eaten at Boma nor had we ever been to Animal Kingdom Lodge. We loved both!! We decided since our ADR was so early we would drive over from POP. We got there with no problems. Didn’t even get lost once.

I don't know that we'll ever stay there but I'm pretty sure we'll go back to Boma's again. I'd rather stay at a less expensive resort and stay longer. But who knows what the future will bring. ;)

Lots of great pictures! I can picture myself standing in each one of those places very clearly. I agree about all the cool light fixtures all through Disney World - parks and resorts.

I love the gift shop picture, of course.

I've been wanting my crew to try Boma with me, but Jill thinks it's too exotic. Maybe I could talk her into it for the tamer breakfast menu. I know she'd go for the chocolate chip muffins and the strawberries, for sure!

AKL is a beautiful resort. I hope to stay there someday, maybe as the last couple of nights of a summer trip. We'd stay value for eight nights, and then enjoy the last three days/two nights as residents of AKL.

Breakfast was very good there. So many more choices than what I took pictures of. Everything we tried was very good. I think a younger kid would probably like it very much. There was even cold cereal if they didn't like anything else.

If money wasn't a factor...hmmmm.

If it was my money:

-baby clothes for the new baby
-cute dresses, outfits, and books for Brooklynn
-party stuff so that Jill and I could do our themed parties and meals every month
-annual passes for the whole family
-DVC

If it's on your dime, just the first two will do. I don't want to be greedy. :)

TCKK - Kelli is drawing Disney characters again. Does that mean she's suffering Disney withdrawal? When is the next trip?

How is the school year going for the girls so far?

I would buy a Mickey watch and a couple hoodies with Disney characters on them. I have one with Grumpy, but it is 3-4 years old and is starting to look bad. :) DD is taking Advanced Drawing this year and yes she does do well in art class. I really enjoyed our time at AKL and both DD's were talking at lunch today about Boma and how much they loved it there. :)

Yes I think DD is suffering Disney withdrawal. I know I am  We don't have a trip on the calendar yet. We're talking about a beach vacation next summer with DH's family. If we do that and if we go to a beach in Florida, we may try to take 2 or 3 days and go to Disney. Also, DH and I are still considering a short trip in February for our 20th Anniversary, however, we're just not sure how we'd be able to work that all out. :confused3 So we'll just have to wait and see what happens and in the mean time just spend time here on the DIS and enjoy everyone else's trips. :)

No, I don't think she has yet. I'll ask her tonight to make sure. I'm sure if she hasn't she probably will though. I know she's done the evil queen from Snow White just recently. I've got a picture of that and will try to post it tonight.

Well, if I was really going to go crazy and had a bigger house to display the stuff in, I'd take one of the glass Castles from the blown glass display on Main Street. I'd also like a 2 week stay at the Polynesian and an annual pass so I could have another 2 week stay at the Grand Floridian and so on and so on if you get my drift. :lmao: DH is not the problem for the trip. Then I shopped at Mouse Gears. No pictures this time although I went back several times. I can’t remember if I took pictures later or not. Next we rode Ellen’s Energy Adventure. We tried to get artistic with this pic.

Great update! I enjoyed the walk around Mexico.

I always want to buy one of those animals, but they're pretty expensive, so I haven't given in to that yet. I love looking at them, though.

My mom collects the birds and other ceramic animals located in the Mexico marketplace area; she buys one every trip.

Your DD said those aren't finished? WOW - they look wonderful to me!

I enjoyed a AKL and Boma pictures. It's nice to see Kelli's drawings again. I am having big time Disney withdrawals along with the rest of you. I finally finished my Universal and Kennedy Space Center reports. Today I started on the Disney report. I enjoy doing the report but it sure takes a lot of time. I have a new appreciation for everyone else's trip reports. I am REALLY enjoying yours. I love all the pictures. Thanks for posting.

Thank you for the compliment, but I know what you mean, I can't draw either. I'm pretty proud of her and I think her drawing is pretty awesome too.

I agree about the colors. Mexico is always a must see for us. And the refurbed ride was really nice too. Although, I can't say which version is best. It was just a nice pleasant way to get out of the heat if nothing else.

I'm glad you're enjoying the report and pictures and DD's drawings. Disney withdrawal is not a fun thing, but thank goodness for the DIS and everyone's reports. I agree, the reports do take a lot of time but I'm glad so many people are doing them, because they do help with the withdrawal pains, at least a little. I'm glad you started your report. I just went over and joined in. Looking forward to hearing all about your trip.

Then we got a drink at Pecos Bills and the girls checked out the lines at Big Thunder Mountain and Splash Mountain. They said the lines were too long and they didn’t want to wait. We then headed over to POTC (no pictures this time) and also rode Aladdin’s Flying Carpets (no pictures of this either) Then Kelli got an ice cream on Main St. and Kerri bought some Cotton Candy on Main St. and then we headed back to POP for the night. This day started early and we all were too tired to stay any later for EMH. I think we only made it until around midnight this night. Here are a couple night shots.

No secret that I know. It just seemed to work. Maybe it's because I took so many, that I guess a couple just had to come out right. There were many more that didn't. I mostly just put the camera on night shots and then turned the flash off for inside the dark rides if they said no flash photos. As for Buzz, I can't remember if I used flash or not. I'm thinking no. Can't remember. I took several, and this is the one that worked.

Hi All

Just wanted to say we'll hopefully be back later in the week. Due to Ike we had really bad winds here on Sunday and Duke Energy has over 1/2 million homes in our area without electric. I worked 7 hrs. OT on Sunday at the police dept. to help handle all the calls and stuff going on during the storm. We have no power so therefore no computers. I'm at work right now and just wanted to quickly let you know we'll be back when we can. Everything is good for me and all my family other than we don't have power. God has provided and none of us got hurt or had any serious damages to our homes. Many people did not fair as well. I need to get back to work, but just wanted to let you know. Hope everyone else is safe and well.

Talk to you soon.

It's good to hear that all is well, even if it is somewhat inconvenient. We're near a hospital, so I guess we have super-duper power lines here. We are lucky that they rarely go out. We had some high winds Sunday, and Trent said it was pretty crazy in Louisville, too.

We'll look forward to hearing from you when all is back to normal, and I hope you don't have to do without power for very long! Times like this sure make us quickly appreciate all the days we do have power and everything is normal.

On Saturday, Kerri and I got up early and Tracy and Kelli slept in. Kerri and I went down to swim and do laundry. Unfortunately, I had to wait on washers and dryers, so I never got to swim, but Kerri had fun. At first there were a few others swimming, but then it started raining some, but there was no lightening so Kerri kept swimming. At one point I stepped out to check on her and she was in the pool completely alone. She loved it!!

My camera was steamed up from being in the cold room and then coming out into the heat.

Great pictures. You seemed to have seen so much in a short amount of time. I can't wait to read more. I didn't get Buzz's face when I took hi picture.

We did get quite a bit done that day. I'm not sure why that pic came out, cause mine are usually just like everyone else's just a white blur.

I am so glad all of you are safe. I hope you get power soon. Stay stafe.

Peggy

Thanks Peggy. We're all good here. We lost our cable last night because the wire snapped, but they fixed it today even though they had indicated it might be next Friday before it was fixed.

My family all have their power back and only minor damage (shingles off some of their roofs. We are so thankful. God has been really good to us. The weather has been great this week, so it wasn't bad not having air conditioning. We haven't had rain, so no one had flooded basements because their sump pumps wouldn't work without electric. Most everyone in the area is back on now and things are returning to normal. Except I think most of us appreciate our electric a little more today than we did last week at this time. :)

Thoughts and prayers to all the lives that Ike has effected.:grouphug:

I agree, so many peoples lives were affected by Ike and they need our prayers.

What a wonderful update!

My prayers are with your and your friends and all those that were in Ike's path. I hope you get your electricity restored soon, and others can begin the cleanup and repairs.

I'm glad you enjoyed our update and thank you for your prayers.

Glad to hear you are all safe. Hope the power comes back soon. pixiedust:

It was only out for a little over 3 days. That's not too bad.

A surprising early morning check-in! Usually it's just me, Gmax, and Charleston Princess on this early.

I Dis as I get ready in the morning
-take a shower, Dis a little.
-do my hair, Dis a little
-iron my clothes, Dis a little
-fix my lunch, check on the Dis once more before heading out!

Anyway, it's good to hear from you, and I know you have to be very excited to get power back! We have never lost power for very long here, and certainly not for days. I'm glad you made it through everything okay. Have a great day!

Thanks Memom!

Glad to know everything is ok with you guys.

Thanks Pooksma. Hey my next update will be Sunday the 10th. I wonder who we met that day? Who's going to get this posted first, You, Nicole or me?

Yeah, you have power !!! :woohoo: :woohoo: :woohoo:
I'm sure it was hard to be away from the DIS.
Good to hear you didn't have to throw away alot of food. :dance3:
The worst we have had here is an ice storm and we just put the food in the snow bank. ;)
I wish none of us had to deal with bad weather. Only sunny days.

That would be awesome wouldn't it. But as I said above, I'm so thankful after the windstorm, we've had really great weather which made everything else bearable.

Again, thanks everybody for your thoughts and prayers and for caring about us. I truly enjoy being part of this big DIS family!! :grouphug:

Hi everyone!

We've got power back!!!! Who would've thought that southern Ohio would have problems with a hurricane!!:lmao:

Thanks everyone for your thoughts and prayers for us. The Lord was good! Our electrc came back on about an hour go. It appears that everything here is fine and working well. Hey, we even got a clean fridge and freezer out of the deal. :rotfl: We did loose a small amount of food, but nothing to worry about.

Take care and we'll be back soon for more of the report. Again, thanks for caring about us.

The hurricane also hit us in Illinois and Indiana. My house had no problems, but in areas around us the flooding has been terrible. So many people have lost everything to floods. Luckily no one has died. There was house about 3 miles from us that blew up. The gas company had now way to shut the gas off because of the flood.

I am happy your electricity is back on.

I agree with you , who would have thought that a hurricane could do this much damage in the Midwest.

That's what we did. We found a quiet place upstairs and sat and just enjoyed the music and atmosphere. They have the most comfy couches to sit in. I called my mom from there and talked to her and we just relaxed while the girls shopped. It really was nice. :)

Cool picture! How nice to have the pool all to yourself for a little while.

Just think what this picture would have looked like taken from the fourth floor.

I like all the shopping pictures. I'd love to have a bunch of those big figurines like the Beauty and the Beast one you showed. Mickey and Minnie at the Eiffel Tower is nice. I bet it had a nice (high) price tag, though.

One more thing occurred on Saturday. While we were in the shop at Pop Century, I ran into Pop Century Princess who is a cast member there. She was very sweet. She says she reads the boards a lot still, but no longer posts very often. She received so many questions that she was unable to answer them all so now she mostly just lurks. She asked me to say “Hi” to everyone. Hi Pop Century Princess, I hope you’re reading this.

Sunday, August 10, 2008

We got up and got ready and then headed to DHS. I can’t remember what we did for breakfast but it was probably just pop tarts or peanut butter crackers and then we hopped a bus and headed on over. We did not make nor even try to make rope drop.

Here’s Kerri in the room getting things together to take with her.

Standby was 70 minutes, but we got fastpasses for later and stood in line now to make sure we got to ride it. I didn’t mind the wait at all because I enjoyed the queue area so much (at least the 1st time). I wouldn’t want to have to wait that long every time we ride it though.

After we left Toy Story Mania, we decided to head to “Lights, Action, Motors” We’d never seen this show before. Just a warning to everyone, it’s really hot at this theater, but the show is really fun. We enjoyed it a lot.

After taking a break at POP, the girls and I headed back to Magic Kingdom for late night EMH. DH stayed at POP and rested. He had gotten several blisters and needed some time off. We hopped a bus around 9pm and back we went for an evening of fun. We had an important DISmeet at 10:00pm. We arrived a little early so we looked around for a couple of minutes in the shops on Main Street.

We saw this – which I think is beautiful.
http://i279.photobucket.com/albums/kk151/tckk_photos/Disney%202008/08-10-08%20Day%205/IMG_1230.jpg
Then we headed over to POTC for our DISmeet. We waited out front and Declansdad and Pooksma came up first and then Nicole and David showed up. It was so much fun talking to them. We found a cast member and got them to take a picture of us. Just before the picture was taken, Nicole called Memom and we all shouted hello to her. So here we are in the photo below. From left to right: me (Cathy), Kelli, Kerri, Nicole, David, Pooksma, and Declansdad and Memom on the phone.
http://i279.photobucket.com/albums/kk151/tckk_photos/Disney%202008/08-10-08%20Day%205/Dismeet.jpg
Next we all went for a ride on the POTC together. Then we stood around in the store and talked for awhile. It was so fun meeting you guys. I hope you enjoyed it too. If any of you other DIS’ers get a chance to meet these people, jump at it. They are great people! :thumbsup2

After this fun time, we parted ways and the girls and I headed out for some more fun. We rode Big Thunder Mountain Railroad which is a lot of fun in the dark and then we headed over to the Haunted Mansion area. On the way we realized they had the ropes up like there was going to be a parade. I had no idea they had parades during EMH. We had never seen this parade and there was no crowd where we were so we decided to stop and watch it. We just sat down on the pavement behind the rope and waited for it to start. (This was a bit of a mistake. It was great for watching the parade, but I’m not that young anymore and my legs went to sleep and when I tried to stand up when it was over I almost fell. Thank goodness there was a closed snack cart behind us and I grabbed that and didn’t actually fall. The girls just cracked up at me. Isn’t it great how concerned they are for their dear mother? Anyway, the parade was awesome and I’m so glad we had the chance to see it. I took some pictures, but they really don’t do the parade justice. But here they are anyway.

Here are the girls waiting

Great Spectro pictures, TCKK! All I need is a Casey's hot dog and a nice hard concrete curb to sit on while I scroll through them again!

Did you guys recognize each other right away, or did you stare for a minute and say, "Is that them? I think that's them. Yeah, that's them."

It's neat to meet people you have befriended on the Disboards. I'm so glad we've been able to meet Erica and Dawn, and in November, we're supposed to be meeting Julie (SwansLoveDisney) and Kerry (snowbell), if we can get our schedules to work out.

I hope Declansdad can find that picture. I think that's up next on their thread, so we'll watch there. I guess you could call that the "Ultimate Hidden Memom" :rotfl:

Thanks for the compliment on the pictures. I really enjoyed that parade and am so glad we got to watch it. DH is not much for parades (actually usually I'm not either) but that one was so cool. Actually maybe if I'd have sat on a curb I wouldn't have had so much trouble getting up because my legs had fallen asleep. I must've looked so graceful! :lmao:

It was so much fun meeting them. We saw Pooksma and Declansdad walking towards us and I thought it was them but wasn't sure. I think they may have felt the same about us. I'm not sure. But it didn't long for us to figure it out.

I hope to get to meet more DIS'ers on a future trip. I'm just not sure when that will be. We may sneak a couple days in during 2009, but if not both of our girls will be attending International Youth Convention in Orlando in 2010 and DH and I are definitely planning to go down too. Of course we'll be at WDW ;) Also, Kelli is planning to attend college in Lake Wales, Florida which is only about an hour drive from Disney World. She'll start in 2010. :woohoo: So surely we can work a trip or two out of that.

I think everyone participated in the conversation. And the girls and Nicole and David rode together on the POTC and seemed to be having fun. I think everyone really enjoyed themselves.

We slept in this day until around 8:00am and then took our time getting ready. We hopped a bus and headed to MK. At MK we caught a boat to Wilderness Lodge. We had 11:00am reservations for lunch at Whispering Canyon. I have to be honest, by now my notes are getting less and less each day, so I’ll have to tell the story from the pictures.

After rest and swimming, we headed to Animal Kingdom around 6:30pm. We had supper at Pizzafari and then went and saw It’s Tough to be a Bug and then the Lion King Show. Here’s a picture of the girls waiting for Lion King to start.

Thanks for sharing all the pictures. I don't think I ever commented on the Whispering Canyon/Wilderness Lodge ones, but I did enjoy them. I hope to be able to stay at Wilderness Lodge for at least a couple of nights on one of our future trips. I think it would feel awesome to get up early and go sit in that big, beautiful lobby. I would love to get pictures with no people in them, too.

Festival of the Lion King is one of our favorites. Brooklynn loves it!

Thanks for starting my Thursday off in a nice way with your pictures! I hope all is well with all of your family. Things are so busy here. There's not much time for Dising. :sad2:

The pics of your DD's with the forks are funny. I could go for an endless shake and a chicken sandwich. Yum!
The Wilderness Lodge looks so huge in pics, I may have to wander over there for a look next time. It must have been hard not to take a dip in thier pool.
I will always enjoy the Lion King Show, I never get tired of it. A must do. :thumbsup2

I'm glad you enjoyed the pictures. I hope you get to stay at the Wilderness Lodge. I'd like to sometime too. It really is a beautiful place. We love Festival of the Lion King too. I love all the colors and the music. Just a fun show.

All is very well with our family, we're just very busy. It should slow down a little now because Volleyball season is over for our youngest. They finished first in their league and 3rd in their tournament. I'm very proud of them. Of course basketball starts in November, so it won't be a long break. ;)

I think those are funny too. And I agree, I'd love to have an endless shake and burger or chicken sandwich from there right now. :) If you get the chance, you really should take a trip over there. It's a beautiful place and worth taking some time to see.

I'll try to get to another update in the next few days.

Day 3 Part 3

We had quite the adventure here. I have never in my life seen World of Disney as crowded as it was that night. I usually love this store but there were so many people in there that I didn’t stay long. The girls were having fun so I went out and sat with DH. After we left there we started heading back to the bus stop as it was lightening quite a bit and we were afraid we were in for a big storm. Cathy

Was this on Friday, Aug 8? This was our arrival day and we had a big lightening storm as well. I wrote about it in my TR too. See below for the link.

Sorry I just started reading and I am a little behind.

August 12,

I didn’t make too many notes from this point on during the trip. So I’m telling the story mostly from the pictures and my memory. We started this day out at EPCOT. Here’s a photo of Spaceship Earth. It seems no matter how many times I go here when I enter the park, I just have to take pictures of the ball.

The first thing we did after taking the above picture was get FastPasses for Soarin’, then we rode “The Land”

The above tomato plant was 16 months old and they have harvested 32,000 tomatoes off the one plant. I think that’s pretty awesome!
Next we rode Journey Into Imagination with Figment. I love Figment, but I love the original version of this ride better. Here are the girls in the ride car.

Sorry I’ve been gone so long. It’s just been really busy around here. But I do want to finish our report. Besides Memom’s got a new one going and I have to keep up on hers too.

Again, this day, I didn’t take notes, so I’m going by the pictures and my memory (such as it is) to tell the story. This is the day we ate around the World. We tried little treats and snacks from all around the world. Things we had never tried, but had read about on all of you all’s reports. So here we go.

First we stopped here. I wanted some fish and chips. No one else wanted this, but they sat and waited and let me eat it. It was very good.

In the past the girls have done the Kidcot stations, but oldest DD wasn’t much interested this trip, so youngest DD and I did it. I’ve never done it before, but she didn’t want to do it by herself, so I joined her. It really was a lot of fun. Just another chance to interact with the cast members.

Did that cuddly soft Tigger come home with you?

Thanks for all the great World Showcase pictures. I would love to live close enough to hop in the car and go over there for a stroll every so often. When I see pictures, I can just picture myself walking along in that very spot. I need some kind of George Jetson instant transport machine to whisk me away and then send me back on that same day.
And it needs to be cheaper than a flight ticket, too! :)

Sorry, I haven't been here for awhile. I guess it's been long enough that they moved my report to the Completed Trip Thread. Well, I would still like to complete the last few days of our trip. So here goes!

August 14th.
On this morning we split up. DH took oldest DD out for breakfast and I took youngest DD out. So we could have some one on one time with the girls. This was so fun spending time alone with one of the girls. We have never done that here and I must say I totally enjoyed it and I think the girls did too. Oldest DD and DH went to Captain Cook’s at the Polynesian. DD has some pictures, but they haven’t been downloaded. They ate Tonga Toast and I’m not sure what else. I think they had a really good time together.

Youngest DD and I went to the Magic Kingdom and had breakfast at the Main Street Bakery. I don’t seem to have pictures of that either and I can’t remember exactly what we had, but I know it was sweet, probably chocolate and very very good!!! After eating, DD and I headed back out on Main Street and saw this.

Then we went to see this. Just like a little kid I had been waiting all week to go here. It had been several years since we toured this. I’m not sure DD really cared that much, but she indulged me and let me have my fun.

It started pouring while we were in here so we ran to the train and rode up to the front gate and then met up with DH and DD and went back to the hotel. Later that day we went to Animal Kingdom and saw the Nemo show. Loved this so much. FOTLK is still my favorite, but this would run a close second for shows.
On the way out, we saw Pocohantas. Here are both girls with her.

That's a great idea! That's one thing I like so much about going to WDW with just the girls. It gives me time to just focus on Jill. Of course, Brooklynn is there, but you know what I mean - no boys around asking us to find something they've lost or getting grumpy because they're tired. One on one time with Trent almost always means watching a sports event of some kind, and that's fun, too. Drew is the one I don't spend much individual time with, because I'm so totally clueless about his interests - cars, bikes, and tools. With him, what little time we share is most likely going to be in the kitchen, talking about photography, or occasionally watching a movie together. When you really think about the conversational time you spend with your grown kids, sometimes it is shockingly little, even when you are passing each other in the house all week long. I'm glad you had that special time with each of your girls!

The trolley and dancers are my last memory as we walked out of the Magic Kingdom on our Thanksgiving trip. We listened to them finish their show, and then we had to make ourselves walk toward the front gate.

Isn't always so hard to have to walk out the gate for the last time, not knowing for sure when you'll be back? But I just tell myself, Lord willing, I know I'll be back again someday :)

Great shots from ToonTown! I love Minnie's sunroom!

Next we headed over to Ariel’s Grotto. Ariel is DD’s favorite character. In fact, she’s asking for an Ariel trash can for her bedroom for Easter instead of candy. (She’s 17! lol)
http://i279.photobucket.com/albums/kk151/tckk_photos/Disney%202008/08-15-08%20Day%2011/IMG_1620.jpg
Ariel was due to be there for autographs, and she was determined to get her autograph this picture. She never wanted to wait before. So this time we waited for at least an hour or so in the hot sun, no shade to speak of. We were just down to a couple people in front of us and I started getting sick. I had gotten overheated. I didn’t really think it was all that hot, but never the less I felt like I was going to pass out. So I gave DD my camera and told her to have someone take her picture and I went over and sat down in a covered pavilion. I put my head down on the table and rested until she was done. She then went and got us some ice water and after drinking that I was fine again. I hated so much to miss seeing her with Ariel, but I’m glad she went ahead and did it. The castmember there was very gracious and took a couple good pics for her. DD had taken her drawing book with her and showed Ariel the drawings she had done. She was so pleased and autographed the pictures for her. Here they are together.

You see who’s on her shirt don’t you. (I told you Ariel was her favorite)

After this we met up with DH and youngest DD and spent some time in the park. Then we headed back to Pop Century for some rest time and swimming.

Later that evening we headed back to Magic Kingdom to ride some favorites for the last time on this trip. We had seen this lady several times on Main St. and this time we got a picture of her and the girls. I just loved her!

We had dinner at Casey’s. We had heard Memom talk about them so much, we just had to try it.

And these guys kept blowing their own horn

Saw a couple pirates (oh wait, that’s my DD’s)
http://i279.photobucket.com/albums/kk151/tckk_photos/Disney%202008/08-15-08%20Day%2011/IMG_1714.jpg
Then we went and rode this, well the 2 DD’s and me. DH does not do anything with big drops.
http://i279.photobucket.com/albums/kk151/tckk_photos/Disney%202008/08-15-08%20Day%2011/IMG_1725.jpg
Then I had my first ever Mickey ears (I can’t believe I waited until the last night!)

I think the girls were about to die, but they took it with good grace and let DH and I enjoy it. We got a family picture on the front porch.

Of course we had to ride this again
http://i279.photobucket.com/albums/kk151/tckk_photos/Disney%202008/08-15-08%20Day%2011/IMG_1757.jpg
You can tell it’s getting late in the trip and late at night because I started getting his more and more. I think DD was getting tired of having her picture taken.
http://i279.photobucket.com/albums/kk151/tckk_photos/Disney%202008/08-15-08%20Day%2011/IMG_1759.jpg
We watched the fireworks (I can’t do fireworks pictures) and then did the Haunted Mansion again.
http://i279.photobucket.com/albums/kk151/tckk_photos/Disney%202008/08-15-08%20Day%2011/IMG_1792.jpg
Then we rode “It’s a Small World”, my pictures are all blurry. I must have been getting tired too. But I love this picture of the castle
http://i279.photobucket.com/albums/kk151/tckk_photos/Disney%202008/08-15-08%20Day%2011/IMG_1802.jpg
Then back to the buses to Pop Century for our last sleep.
http://i279.photobucket.com/albums/kk151/tckk_photos/Disney%202008/08-15-08%20Day%2011/IMG_1807.jpg
The next morning we got up and headed back towards home.

I hope this sign comes true!

We had such an awesome trip. Disney World is such a great place for a family to be together! We experienced some new things this time that we've never done before and there were some things we didn't get to at all on this trip even though we had 10 days in the parks. I guess that means we'll just have to go back real soon so we can do those too. :thumbsup2

Thanks for sticking with me through this report. I really have enjoyed sharing it with you. I hope you had some fun with it too. :goodvibes

That's cool that your daughter now has personally autographed Ariel sketches. That was a good idea!

The Mickey ice cream bar looks good. It's not even 4 a.m. yet, but I'm always up for ice cream. It's one of my basic food groups. :)

I love seeing the Pop Century sign. If nothing major happens, I will be there in about two and a half weeks!

Thanks for sharing your pictures. I like them all - from the beautiful castle to a regular old bus stop sign!

I'm glad you got to go on this nice long trip with your family. You now all have special memories to treasure for the rest of your lives.

She was so excited and pleased to get to do that. I'll have to take a photo of her autographed picture and show it here soon. She said Ariel was so pleased and loved her drawing.

Thank you so much for sharing with us on this trip report. You've made it fun to do. I love reading yours and even though mine is over I'll still be around checking you out!

I hate to see it end too, but we had a wonderful trip with lots of memories, plus it was fun writing it all down here and sharing with anyone that wanted to read along. Thank you for being her for our report. It's so much more fun to do when people come along with you.

The last day is always so sad. Very cool about the autograph pics. Lucky DD!

She was very excited and pleased to get to do that. It's so fun to watch the little girl come back out now and again for special things like that. So many times we're in too much of a rush to have them grow up. But Disney is a place and time where we can all just celebrate being a child again.

It was so much fun getting to meet you guys down there. I hope we'll get to do it again sometime. Are you still planning to go back this year? We're still considering it. Maybe we'll get to meet again. Who knows? Take care and thanks so much for sharing in this report with us.
