Since we still seem to check in here I just changed it for this year!!!:cool1:

I am so excited to discover others who love Disney and twirling!!!:cool1:

I just wanted to start a thread for all of us twirl parents who will be taking our children to Twirl Mania this year! Introduce yourselves...maybe we will have the chance to meet.

My name is Dyan and my DD Talya is competing for her third time at Twirl Mania. She will be competing in the Pre-Teen Gold competition, Miss Twirl Mania and some open events (two baton, strut solo and freestyle), she will also be performing at the Gold Showcase in EPCOT on Sunday afternoon.

Hi another twirling mom here - girls are competing in their first Twirlimania. They are in group competition.

The girls will be in both the afternoon and evening parades at MK on Feb. 14th and competing at Twirlmania on the 15th.

We are staying at the Grand Floridian arriving on the 10th and departing on the 17th.

If anyone plans a DIS meet let me know!

Oops, I forgot to say we will be staying at POP Century.

I think one of my favorite things about Twirl Mania is to see the kids at the hotels outside practicing. There are very few twirlers in my county...so it's always great to see lots of other kids working towards the same goals.:)

Hi everyone, my name is Lisa and my DD Shanna will be competing in Twirlmania for the 2nd time. She just turned 9 and this will be trying out for the soloists day parade -- she did it last year and loved it! She is also competing in freestyle, Miss Twirlmania and open events, as well as small group (I think Sat. pm)

We are with the Halifax Sparklette Majorettes (from Halifax, Nova Scotia) and are staying at ASMusic. We plan to attend every year. Really looking forward to seeing green grass and feeling warm!

Thanks for starting this thread.

When I say park ticket, I mean a ticket package from Twirl Mania. The only way for me to get an extra ticket for the awards is to buy a one day ticket package. I just figured if someone has other family members going, maybe not everyone is going to the awards. My DS doesn't go to the awards, he says it's too long and usually too cold for us Floridians.;)

Ahhh. Just the bracelet, right? Still, our group probably won't have extra.

Cold is a relative thing, I guess. Earlier this week it was 25 C in Orlando, I hear. It was -21 C here (which is not normal for NS, so I was freezing!) You'll know the people from Canada -- they'll all be wearing tank tops and shorts.

Sat at MK our parents have a red shirt and sun our team parents have a nice bright lime green shirt. LOL We all always have our bling on. :) Oue teams are 50 girls and Between the night and day parade I think we have 130 marching.

Our windsuits are black and white.

I've been told we have some of the most recognizable jackets -- that's how we find each other at competitions and parades. They are white and red, with a huge red maple leaf on the back. I'll let the other mums know they might run into you.

Forgot to post - our group is called Hamilton PAL Twirlers. The girls have blue and black warm up suits to wear over their costumes to the park and to the awards ceremony. The Twirling Moms have royal blue polos with the Twirling name and our names embroidered on them.

Hope to see some of you there!

Talya twirls for Synergy. Our group twirls in the USTA organization. We are a really small team and we will only be doing solo stuff at Twirl Mania. We don't really have team warm ups, but some of the girls have black jackets with Synergy on it and the moms sometimes wear a lime green Synergy t-shirt.:)

Do you know if we can add extra park days to our Twirlmania park passes (I hear that people were able to do this on the last group trip, but that was 3 years ago) Oddly enough, we're thinking that doing this would give us more usable down time at the hotel since we could hit the parks on more days but spend less time there when we do go.

I stopped twirling when I was about 20 (37 now).

I will go look for a video of my DD doing Military or I will tape her tonight for you. I will post a link to the video.

Just for a quick explanation, our sanctioned Military is done in the shape of an "L". And then we also offer the regular Military box.

Her competition this weekend went well. It was NBTA which we aren't used to, we twirl USTA. USTA using the set system like Twirlmania and they just seem more organized to us.

We are starting to organize our stuff and are super excited!!! :cool1: :cool1:

Okay, I uploaded a video of her doing military box, working on finding a video of the "L". I will PM you a link to the video. Keep in mind this was from her first competition, so her marching was very novice...

I almost have Victoria's costume done. I still need to add a few more stones and stone her gloves tonight. We have competition in the am.

We will go the Disney Feb 12 and stay through the 16th.

Did anyone notice the time changes for the "night" parade? That is disapointing.

Victoria is so excited about friday, saturday and sundays events. She cannot wait to compete.

For those of you whose daughters have competed individually...How do the events flow? Victoria is doing her solo, strut, marching military and basic. She is also going for miss twirlmania. She is a novice except fot strut 1..and she is a beginner.

This is her first time with individuals but we have done teams and parades before at Twirlmania.

The set system runs like clockwork -- but although there are times posted for each entry, they don't run by the clock :rotfl: So, just go by the listing in the set system. If you miss it, there is no way to make it up.

Last year, we had 2 conflicts and had to scratch on 2 of Shanna's events to do the day parade. Unfortunately, there is no way of knowing whether there will be a conflict until you buy the registration book on Thurs or Fri. Not sure whether this happens with other events or it is just conflicts with the parades -- those are the only ones we have had so far.

I was up last night til 1 am gluing rhinestones on, too -- but that one is done now! Just have about 4 inches of beaded fringe left to make. :cool1:

By the way, how old is Victoria? Shanna is novice for military march and beginner in everything else -- she does Super X strut.

As far as tickets I suggest you call Joyce ASAP. I spoke to her a few days ago and I was able to buy another ticket, so you might be able to still add on, but I would call now!!!

As far as individual events, your best friend is a highlighter. The set system does run very organized, but you just need to be sure which lanes at what time. Especially, if you have 2 modelings, 2 marchings, 2 solos...

Talya is in the Gold competition Friday morning and Friday evening she will do all her modeling and marching. Saturday morning she has her solo and pageant strut and then in the afternoon she has two baton and open strut. It's a crazy schedule and leaves no time for a parade. Sunday is the showcase at EPCOT and then awards that night. I am tired just thinking about it.

And as far as costumes go, ours are finished!!!:cool1:

If any of you wants to get together while at WWS, I will be there all day Friday and Saturday. I will PM you my cell phone and maybe we can have a mini meet!:)

What about freestyle? Friday afternoon? You're busier than you think! :rotfl2:

Shanna had a competition last weekend where she did only half of the events -- she was so exhausted from waiting around in between events. I prefer to have one right after the other -- she's just turned 9 so I think that helps her stay focused on why she is there ie. not to play tag in the hallways

We are there Fri. morning for parade tryouts -- won't know if we'll go back to the hotel for a break before freestyle or after until we see the book. Sat. is crazy for us until dinner time, then nothing til Sunday (1 group routine)

Dyan, do you know anything about how to get around the conflict between auxilliary solos. At Twirlmania, the auxilliary solos are scheduled for 12:30 to 5:30 so a twirler could potentially do them and the Sat. parade if there wasn't a time conflict. But since we don't know what number they are, we have to pay for them and hope for the best. Kinda sucks that Shanna has to scratch on those events (which we had to do last year). At AYOP and other NBTA events, you can check into your lane if you have a conflict.

Victoria is 10.

For those who asked about the tickets. I would call and speak to someone. I am not sure you can upgrade those tickets at the gate.

Victoria did ok yesterday. Her performances were not the best but not the worst.

Our teams all did great. Victoria's team has a lot of newcomers and they had a lot of drops. I think they were all nervous their first time out on the floor. They have not done that in practice before.

We are all so excited for next week!!

Hey everyone -- Our head coach ran into one of you at the competition.

Shanna did ok but not so well in her 2 best events (solo and 2-baton) I'm guessing we need to re-think the idea of her not competing in those events here at home (which we were doing to avoid her moving up too fast) So, she placed 7th in Beg. 7 to 9 pageant (9th in solo - she was pretty disappointed -- I stopped counting drops when she got to 8)

I think some of the group were disappointed with the organization of the competition, but not as much as other mothers that I spoke to (especially those whose daughters were trying out for the evening parades) I'm not too happy with the fact that Shanna had to scratch 2 events to do the afternoon parade - nobody else from our group did the parades because of the conflict. Couldn't they have the parades on other days?

By the way, I did try to add an extra day to our park tickets at the park. I found out that Twirlmania only paid $138 for our 5 day passes -- that's a lot less than we paid for them. :confused3

Just saw that they have posted the dates for Twirlmania next year and they are NOT on President's Day Weekend (the weekend after)

That works out great for us, since we'll have our vacation after the competition now -- much better once the stress is off.

We just got back home yesterday as we decided to make a family vacation while being in Disney and had so much fun!

I do agree that many things were very disorganized! I was not happy with the parade times and how the night parade suddenly at the last minute got changed. Our baton corp has decided not to return next year as of now...things could change. It was just too much to get ready for every year.

My daughters group ended up taking first place for their age group, and I think (I couldn't really keep up with all the different awards) they also took first place for both parades and some other things as well. We were all very proud parents!

One more thing, my family members all had a big problem getting into Hollywood Studios for the awards ceremony because we were told that if they used their ticket for just that one event they would not be charged a day on their ticket. That apparently was not true. In order to get into the park at 7:30 that night they made them put their ticket in the machine and ended up loosing a day until they complained to Disney about it. Disney ended up giving them a 1 day ticket to make up for it, but also said that Twirlmania had no right listing such information about not being charged a day. :confused3

Wow, you are right, it's the 19-22 next year and we are off on the 15th. I doubt we will be able to attend as Tal will have to miss too much school.

Congrats to the good results everyone. I figure any placement is good since the competition is so tough!:thumbsup2

Quite a few people from our group had problems with their tickets -- ours never worked properly in the card readers (even though we had them reprinted) and half the group's tickets did not have the additional passes to WWoS on them. Since we had been doing the water parks before the competition, they found out as they were trying to get into WWoS that they had no passes left.

We scratched 2 events to do the afternoon parade -- hated that -- but at least we did not have to make a choice between pageant and a group parade routine (which some people had to)

Still, I looooved being warm for 10 days.

Darn! I hadn't thought about that! Bummer. Shanna wasn't supposed to be off on any of the days we were there (but they had 3 snow days while we were there) but since she is much younger, it doesn't make any difference with school. Actually the teacher sent us with her blessing because she is such a chatterbox when she's bored. :rolleyes1

A baton twirling athlete was selected for feature in a sporting section of a magazine. This section highlights female athletes teaching their sport to magazine staff. Unfortuately, that section was sponsored by Reebok and Reebok cancelled the selected athlete. The reason given was "baton twirling is not a sport". Although they have previously used a dancing cheerleader, who did no stunts or gymnastics. OK.......

Please go to this you tube link to view the baton sport video and take a second to post your comment. Even if that comment is only "COOL" or a one word response. We want to show how many people are out there that either twirl, have family involved in baton or that support baton as a sport. Your time would be much appreciated.

We're doing fine. Shanna had a bit of a set-back in her regular events because she was working on a new freestyle -- we only see her coach for about 1/2 hour every second week and really didn't have time to work on anything else. So we're regrouping now to get her ready for the next season, learning how to work gymnastics into her twirling (very few girls do that here) A little disappointed that she just missed that one more win to move up to Intermediate -- would have made the parade schedule easier to work with (Shanna had to skip auxilliary events to do the Beginner parade in 2008 and 2009)

Just got the email from Twirlmania -- they're parading in MK and DHS next year? Maybe the schedule will change anyway.

We're definitely going to Twirlmania in 2010, as are at least 2 other girls (not a team event next year) We're actually looking at buying a timeshare or 2, but not sure if it will be in time for next year. Still planning to stay at ASMusic during competition though, to be near the other twirlers.

Our next team event will be AYOP -- does anybody also go to that?

We're on Facebook, as is our club: Halifax Sparklettes Majorettes.

Heavy training schedule here! Talya is practicing 4 days a week from 9-6 and starting next week she will be going 8 days straight in preparation for Nationals. We go to USTA Nationals which is in Arizona this year.

She had a good rest of the season and is working really hard to catch her toss cartwheel, it hit her hand 3 times today!

We are not going to Twirlmania next year as we will have the added expense of trying out for International Cup 2011 next summer and Talya will be doing Pre-Trials in two different Regions. I am planning on going back to Twirlmania the year after...:)

How cool your dd was on the cover... We will be there. Victoria will be competing as individual and with her teams.

Yup -- we'll be there. We haven't got the book yet so I can't wait to see your DD's picture (that must have been great for her to see)

We love the change in the day parades, since it means my DD doesn't have to skip the auxilliary events. But is anybody planning to do the DHS private party? IMO it's more expensive than adding another day to our tickets so we'll want to know what will be open that night.

And most of the links still aren't finished -- odd, since they were all ready long before this time last year. They still haven't got the hotel info up. Does it have that in your book?

I just checked and the hotel info in the book is All-Satr Music is $116.00 a night and POP is $134.00 a night. If you want to number to book it I can send it to you. I just booked a room off property. I have always stayed on property, but this time it was a huge price difference and that makes a difference this year. We are planning on doing the party as it sounds like soemthing different and exciting!

Thanks Dyan -- I love the idea of staying at Pop for a change but Shanna refuses to give up the poolside movies so it will likely be ASMu (don't worry about the phone number -- we still have that from last year's book, but we had to know which resorts were available before we called -- for some reason, they never know that info :confused3) This year we stayed there on the 4/3 deal and were still able to stay in the twirler section -- I'm hoping there'll be a deal this year too because that saved us a lot of money.

We bought a TS at Cypress Pointe Resort so we'll likely be staying there our 2nd week if we can get a reservation -- it just closed.

I have no experience with these private party nights except for the Pirates and Princesses party, and then they had all of the same rides open as they would for EMH. Any idea where we could find out more about it? It does sound like it would be very special. :goodvibes

On a normal year I would say, yes it would be that weekend as it is usually Presidents weekend, but this year it moved one weekend later, Feb 19-21. Sorry you are going to miss it, it's a big one, the 15th anniversary! Have a fabulous time on your trip!:)

How did everyone enjoy Twirlmania? Victoria did not do her best individually. She was not on at all. I should have entered her novice instead of beginner. It is a fine line to walk with some of the tricks she can do.

Oh well. I just love seeing her get out there and do what she loves.

Our group overall did a great job (individually and teams )and so did our parade entries.

Anyone going to USTA nationals in Savannah?

We had a great time!:thumbsup2 Talya did really well in her beginner solo, but pretty much bombed everything else. The most important is that she had a great time!!!

We will definitely be at USTA Nationals and can't wait!!!:cool1: Are you going?

Quoting you"The most important is that she had a great time!!!"
We have been telling our parents with individuals this all the time. Some are putting way to much pressure on the girls..Sure we like to win but it is enjoying the sport you love.

Yes, our group is going we are very excited. Hotel ressies are made...We have to make some changes to our show corps routine because of length and our individuals need to put togther an USTA strut. We know the Dma and X Strut.

Can you give me any insight on the USTA strut? We are doing Tu in April , USTA State in May then Natls.
