Yay a visitor!! Hi! I thought it would be fun to do a different kind of report this time (since it feels like I just finished my August 2008 one....well, I did!). I wish I was better at graphics though, my Rosen Centre flyer is pretty sad :rotfl:

Hey Kelly!

Hi Lessa! I am glad you found me, I just found your new PTR! Yay for upcoming trips!

Great start - I love the new approach! And March is right around the corner... Wooo hooo!!! :cheer2:

Hooray it's V - glad you found me too!! I can't believe how soon the March trip is, I usually plan trips 8-9 months ahead of time so it hasn't sunk in how soon this is! Not that I'm complaining....

I love how you are doing your report. It's fun. :goodvibes I'm sad our trips don't overlap too. I was looking at your Disneyland report and all of those light fixture pictures!! :hyper:

Thanks! Yes I had a blast with all of the different light fixtures in Disneyland's Fantasyland. Their bathrooms there are really cool too, but I must admit I felt a little self-conscious about whipping my camera out everytime I walked into a bathroom so I don't have many pictures of those

What a great bday present! You will love POFQ. It is great because it's small, so everything is a 5-minute walk. The pool and hot tub are lovely - we used them every day when we stayed there. And I LOVED taking a stroll over to POR to eat at Boatwrights. Also be sure to take the boat ride to Downtown Disney, so relaxing!

Gotta have the DIS lime green....I'm actually wearing a lime green shirt and shoes right now :rotfl: I am bummed about the Alice bag but it was such a hassle on the last trip - I had all these pins stuck in it to keep the strap on and they kept coming loose and stabbing at me. The piglet bag is perfect, it has little pockets on the outside and zips shut, and the material it's made out of is weather resistent.

So far, I am loving it! All the reviews of people coming back in 2009 have been positive. I plan on strolling the grounds my first day and checking everything out - hoping the Butterfly Garden in POR will be there!

No pools or hot tubs for me; I don't like water and don't own a bathing suit.

I will definitely head to Boatwrights, though they are no longer serving breakfast. :sad1:

Oh, yes, DTD is on the list for the first night. It is one of my favorite places, so that is whay I was looking at DTD resorts first.

Hope your planning is going well!

Thanks! Poor Mixi. I took her to the vet last week and she said Mixi should be on prozac! I bought one of those things you plug into the wall and it emits a scent that is supposed to calm cats. I hope it works.

Thanks LL :) I have to admit though I'm doing minimal editing on these things, all I did on that last one was type the text and black out some people who could be seen in the ride cars :rotfl:

SO exciting that you guys have a house!!! We found one we LOVE over the weekend, then found out that three people had just put offers on it the day before :headache: We're trying to figure something out but I don't have my hopes up!

:woohoo: It was fun, I've never bought my tickets from a Disney Store before. Usually I buy them online but for just one 3-day base ticket the savings wasn't really worth it when you factored in shipping. It's cool to have a hard plastic card too instead of the paper ones. I have to admit though I wish it had another character on it, I'm not a huge Goofy fan
I have to wait until we get there to buy my mom's ticket, she only needs a 2-day and apparently you can't buy those ahead of time :confused3

Good luck with the house! We ended up in a similiar situation, we found a house we loved, and found out they had another offer they were considering so we had to move fast! Luckily I knew the owner's mother and called her and we basically got lucky and they did us a favor! It's scary when you find out there are other offers, and just have to go in w/out getting your hopes up! I'm sure you guys will find something you love, sooner or later! good luck and keep us updated!!

Getting a hard plastic ticket is tempting. Maybe I should get my March one at The Disney Store here before we leave. We're just getting a five day non-hopper since it's a short and simple trip.

I am still sorry you're leaving one day before we get there. I hope you have a great time! You know how awesome I think mom and daughter trips are!

I am sorry to say that we didn't get our dream house :sad1: We may have been able to come up with the money, but they would not take an FHA loan for some reason :confused3 Considering we have only looked at 12 houses so far, I know we will just keep looking and eventually find something wonderful! No I've never set foot in either! I can't wait - I even arranged a late dinner at Narcoossee's so hopefully we can watch the fireworks at MK while we eat. I just wish their name was easier to spell, it's such a pain to type out :rotfl:

Item purchased due to the unfortunate forced retirement of the beloved Alice park bag, officially needing more help than any sewing needle or safety pin can give (RIP)

Aw I LOVE the Alice bag!! Where did you get it? I may need another one...Tinkerbell gets a lot of wear and tear on her too.

Mystical crystal ball, named Leota. Can predict future up to an entire month in advance.

I actually got it off ebay for a mere $12! I think they used to sell them in the Disney Store but I never saw them there.

QUICK NON-DISNEY RELATED QUESTION: So DBF Jack's birthday is Sunday, and I've been thinking for WEEKS and have no idea what to get for him! Leslie I wish he was like you with the emails you send Marc :rotfl: Jack doesn't want or need anything, it seems. Except a BMW, which I can't afford  I'd like to do something creative and useful - for Christmas I gave him a new suitcase and then packed it for him with new sweaters, fancy shower & shave gel, etc. He liked it but obviously I can't do the same thing again :scratchin Any suggestions would be MUCH appreciated!

Back to WDW....where I'll be NEXT WEEK! I haven't started packing or anything! I am so behind. And I am busy all weekend with Jack's birthday so I have no idea when I'll start getting ready. Eeek!!

Back to Every good Diser needs a trip planning binder. :thumbsup2

Agreed!! Today I'm going to print out my packing list to add to it. I need to get a move on!

Apparently I have been under a rock and missed this PTR....but I'm here now!!!

Hi Kat, you found me! I am actually reading your latest updates right now too. OK, really I am just drooling over your picture of tonga toast and wishing I had some right now.

Two weeks from today I'll be leaving tomorrow morning! :cool1:

I haven't done anything trip related, since it has been (and still is a tiny bit) so 'iffy'. I'm still not convinced we are going, but it's sliding more and more toward the yes side as the pros, such as mental health, making a video for Jill and Brooklynn, friend time with a long-time friend I rarely get to see any more, etc., outweigh the cons, which is pretty much just the money.

In any event, tell my pal Mickey and all of his friends that MeMom will most likely be hobbling down Disney streets very soon, so they should be ready to be in lots of pictures. :thumbsup2

I hope you come up with something creative and wonderful for a birthday surprise.

ok I'm finally all caught up!!

First off-you are so close!!!!!!!!!! I'm so excited for you, you're going to have a great time. The weather is BEAUTIFUL there right now, we loved it.

Look at you Ms. Organization! I love your binder and your little menus. Speaking of, you will ADORE Narcoosee's. It was my fave place from our honeymoon, just too expensive to go to on a regular basis. But SO good. The steak and lobster are amazing, and the almond crusted cheesecake is the best dessert ever. Very sweet, but so good. I can't wait to hear all about it!!

And our mens' bdays are one day apart-DH's is Saturday. I haven't gotten him anything either, we don't need useless crap. Do you cook? I think I'm going to cook breakfast for DH in the morning-we don't ever eat a big breakfast but he LOVES it. Are you crafty, can you make something? I'm not very good at coming up with ideas.

And finally-I'm sorry you didn't get the house. We went FHA and were worried about that, but it worked out in our case. And it will in yours too-you just haven't found the right one yet. Good luck, keep us updated!

Hi everyone! I have been trying desperately to get on here and do an update. Of COURSE, work has been absolutely mad the past week. I am really nervous about missing four days. I am only guaranteeing to check my email once a day in the evenings (though I'll probably do it more than that  I just don't want to feel obligated) while on vacation so hopefully I will be able to relax a bit!

So I know you are all dying to know what I got Jack for his birthday  This may seem weird, but I made him a special gift. He and I (well, me especially) have recently fallen in love with this ridiculous video game called Left 4 Dead (http://www.l4d.com/) where you chase zombies around Pennsylvania. It's totally silly and fun. Excuse the terrible pictures from my terrible camera, but here is Jack's Zombie Apocolypse Survival Kit:

http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y15/kellysound/trip%20report/IMG_5405.jpg

Inside you can see all the basics: first aid kit, canned goods, matches, glow sticks, Zombie Survival Guide (http://www.amazon.com/Zombie-Survival-Guide-Complete-Protection/dp/1400049628/ref=pd_bbs_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1236739150&sr=8-1), even a tin of Fancy Feast for his cat.

http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y15/kellysound/trip%20report/IMG_5408.jpg

And you need a serious weapon to fight zombies, but Jack already has necessities like a hammer, swiss army knife, baseball bat, axe....so I threw a blowtorch in there too. I figured it might be useful when we buy our house, because the way house hunting is going right now we'll probably end up with a serious fixer upper!

ANYWAY....back to Disney....where I'll be in just
TWO DAYS!!

I am more or less packed. I am super excited because I just realized that Southwest is one of the airlines that does not charge for your first checked bag, so I can bring exciting things like bottled water and bug spray. Hooray! I bought an awesome Alice in Wonderland shirt while I was out shopping for Jack the other day, I would take a picture of it but with the way my camera is acting it would look like a big blur, so you'll have to wait for my trip pictures. I borrowed Jack's awesome Nikon camera for the trip, but am freaking out a bit as the battery is dead and neither of us can find the charger :scared: Not sure whose apartment it's at....I've scoured mine and am going to triple check his tomorrow....a late night visit to Best Buy may be in my near future.

Oooh, I found the shirt on Hot Topic's website! (You would be surprised how many Disney things they sell...that's where I go now that my mall's Disney Store closed :sad2: ) Picture me in this (http://www.hottopic.com/hottopic/store/product.jsp?FOLDER%3C%3Efolder_id=2534374302028401&PRODUCT%3C%3Eprd_id=845524442190760&bmUID=1236738537633).

Hi Hilary! I am so excited about the weather - I just checked and it's sunny with highs in the 80's for our trip! My FAVORITE!

Happy belated birthday to your DH! I hope you guys had a wonderful weekend. Jack was sick the whole time so we just went out to dinner with his friends one night and that was pretty much it. Now I'm paranoid that he might have gotten me sick just in time for my trip :scared: My throat is pretty sore so I have been chugging Airborne and vitamin C like crazy. Eek!

It's 82 degrees and sunny here and we are having a blast. I am having fun writing notes for the trip report and gathering stuff for scrapbooks. This way I can drag this vacation out for months :p
See ya real soon!

That is a funny story about your bag. Thank you for the laugh. It is the first time I have been able to laugh in two days. Friday evening we had to put down our 16 year old Beagle/Bassett dog. Her name was Snickers. I have been crying non-stop since then. Thank you for cheering me up. :thumbsup2

I hope you are having a great trip. :goodvibes

:rotfl2: These days, they look just like any other tote bag, so enjoy! :thumbsup2

No one else seemed to notice that it was for infants! :rotfl: It actually worked out really well!

You are off enjoying the Animal Kingdom right now, in beautiful weather, while I'm at school, and its cold and rainy outside. no. fair. Just kidding-I hope you're having a wooooonderful time, I can't wait to hear all about it!

If it makes you feel any better, I am now at my desk taking a break from replying to the 200 emails I had to deal with when I returned to work this morning. Boo! I wish I was back in Orlando!

:rotfl: Diaper Bags hold SOOO MUCH STUFF!! We used ours last year too...although it was a back pack style, not pooh bear. :rotfl:

Have a grea time at AK!

They really do work better than purses I think ;)

Thank you, Kelly, for finding Stacey on your hotel TV. Remember when she was in AK and she ran up to her boy Mickey squealing like a fangirl? "Turn around, I have to see all of you!" That was so cute! AngieBelle told me she knows the cast member who was the AK Minnie who was told by Stacey that she had a crush on Mickey.:lmao:

Oh, and I just found out that your WNtW episode(with Stacy London, not Stacey J. Aswad hehe)is on again this Tuesday at 6pm ET. I remember you saying "I see princesses" when you were in the NYC Disney store. I hope you see the princesses for real on this trip.

Thanks John! I was so excited to find Stacy on our TV, I never would have thought to look for her if you hadn't mentioned it. Also thank you for telling me that my show was on again, I had no idea!

I hope you are having a fantabulous time!!! :woohoo:

It was amazing! and it FLEW by!!!!

Hey Kelly!!! I hope you and your mom are having an awesome time! :dance3: I heard the weather is beautiful down there. Make sure you take LOTS of pictures of the Flower & Garden stuff in Epcot. :flower3:

Michelle, hi!!! The weather was unbelievable. I was there for 6 days and didn't see a drop of rain! Just blue skies and 80 degrees....boy I wish I was still there now! We went to Epcot the day before the F&G Fest started so I did get some great pictures of what they were setting up. It was a wonderful trip!

Have fun, so nice to get an occasional live update...........

There is something ridiculously fun about posting to the DIS live from WDW  Too bad I only got to do it once!

Hello everyone! I'm back from a fantastical, superamazing, magicous trip! And I'm excited to start my report!

Except for one problem.

Let me take you back to last Wednesday evening. I was frantically scurrying around my apartment looking for the charger to Jack's lovely Nikon camera. I couldn't remember if I had it or if it was at his house. Finally I gave up and went to sleep.

In the morning I went to Jack's, as he was going to look after my car while I was gone and drive me to the airport. As soon as I got to his house I started looking for the charger. It was in the first dresser drawer that I opened. Yay!!!

I opened that camera to take out the battery, and that's when I noticed a big dark cavern where the memory card was supposed to be. Ooops. I had left the card in my laptop. So now I had a charged camera with no memory!

I scrounged up a measley 500 MB card, which was certainly better than nothing. In Florida, I had to take the pictures from each day and put them on my mom's laptop in order to free up space on the card. I had planned to buy a blank CD or SD card at Disney, but they don't sell anything except a jump drive for $40 (yikes!) SOOOO.....I have no pictures of my trip now, and won't until my mother figures out how to burn a CD and mail it to me. Argh!!!

So please standby for the return of your regularly scheduled trip report!

Same thing happened to me a few trips back. I brought the wrong memory card and filled it up in one day! Thankfully, DH stopped by the Kodak desk in Expo Hall (the place next to Tony's Town Square in MK). They burned all my photos to a disk for $25.

I've done that before but would have had to spend hundreds to do it this time since the card needed to be emptied every day :headache: Argh! I was so mad at myself. I really should have gone to a pharmacy before the trip ended and bought a blank CD so I could burn the pictures myself.

So as y'all can see, Operation Picture CD was a big FAIL. The good news is that my mother is visiting me this week so she can just bring her darn laptop with her, and I can steal my pictures back myself. The reason my mom is coming to visit is because we are meeting with the mortgage guy and taking a look at the house I will hopefully be putting an offer on (hope I didn't just jinx myself). Squeee!!!! Cross your fingers for me...

Travel journal, approx. half-filled

http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y15/kellysound/trip%20report/DSC_0319.jpg

Scribbly contents are nearly indecipherable, but seem to chronicle the entire journey to Orlando of March 2009.

First page reads:

This morning, after a long strenuous night of fighting zombies and corresponding with colleagues, I rose refreshed at the quite early hour of 8 o’clock. My dear companion Jack graciously agreed to transport me to the airport in his fine auto. After bidding a fond farewell to him at the entrance to the terminal, and to my large suitcase stuffed with bottled water and Disney t-shirts at the baggage counter, I made it through security. One chair tea and breakfast panini later, I was sitting in a lovely waiting area preparing to board my flying machine to the mysterious southern land of….ORLANDO.

After landing in Orlando, my plane ride spent watching the exploits of fellow adventurer Ben Gates in his film ‘National Treasure 2: Book of Secrets’ (unimpressed).

fig A.
http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y15/kellysound/trip%20report/national_treasure2.jpg

I left the aircraft and made my first discovery: a long tube filled with a series of small cars intended to whisk you away to the main terminal!

fig B:
http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y15/kellysound/disney_march09/DSC_0002-3.jpg

I cautiously stepped aboard and then disembarked mere minutes later. While admiring the fountain, my peaceful silence was broken suddenly – a creature was racing towards me, shouting and waving its arms as if primed for attack!

fig C:
http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y15/kellysound/disney_march09/DSC_0003-2.jpg

Oh. It is just Mother.

To the bowels of the airport we went, to select our vehicle for the week. I admired the fine HHR, which Mother rejected in favor of a Pontiac. Blast!

fig D:
http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y15/kellysound/disney_march09/DSC_0114-1.jpg

I had brought my dear friend Alma along, an expert navigator.

fig E (likeness):
http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y15/kellysound/trip%20report/alma.jpg

She led us to the lovely Rosen Centre, where I unpacked with gusto!

fig F:
http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y15/kellysound/disney_march09/DSC_0005-2.jpg

Soon we were eager to venture out again, and Alma led us toward an exciting land full of promise, entertainment, and salt water taffy!

We learned that we would be drinking top secret beverages, as our IDs were both checked before we were permitted to order. Mother went for the Pina Colava, while I indulged in the Strawberry Lychee Margarita. I am fairly certain this is the nectar of the gods – observe my enjoyment!

fig L:

We wandered down to the sweets shop (a strange place selling coloured dust and mammoth cookies) before stumbling across a lovely little Mediterranean restaurant, Spoodles. We were seated at a lovely outside table, a prime spot for observing the locals. Families on surrey bikes occasionally plowed through the masses of meanderers. We dive into Mediterranean Dips (feta, hummus, curry, cucumber yogurt), divine bread, shrimp linguini, and butternut squash. Mother the survivalist insists on boxing up the leftover bread and dip, which we lug around all evening and then throw out.

I'm glad we got to try it, I didn't even realize at the time that it was closing so we lucked out. My entree was kind of forgettable but mom's butternut squash ravioli and the dips were phenomenal!! Jiko also has a dip sampler appetizer like that but I liked Spoodles much better.

Oh. It is just Mother.

Soon we were eager to venture out again, and Alma led us toward an exciting land full of promise, entertainment, and salt water taffy!

Getting there was somewhat difficult, even with Alma’s help, as Mother was quite convinced that Downtown Disney and the Boardwalk are the same place. She kept trying to turn toward DTD. I assured her that she was mistaken.

We wandered down to the sweets shop (a strange place selling coloured dust and mammoth cookies) before stumbling across a lovely little Mediterranean restaurant, Spoodles. When did she admit defeat and proclaim that DTD and Boardwalk are not the same place?

Lugging things around only to throw them out later...Jill will tell you I do the same thing. When she sees me putting ziplock bags in my purse, she rolls her eyes and wonders aloud what wonderful half-eaten treasures I might carry in them later in the day. :rotfl:

I guess it's what us old folks do since we went through the Depression and all. (Only we didn't go through the Depression. We have no excuse - just hate to throw away food.)

We meandered further down the Boardwalk, coming across a very curious little sprite, whose name I discovered was Craig. The delightful little man was tossing around bananas, juggling hats, squeaking, and even pouncing on passerbys and forcing them to engage in his bizarre activities. I had a wonderful time observing him (from a safe distance, of course).

Eventually Craig scurried away, and we continued on, finding ourselves in a most glamorous resort.

fig D:
http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y15/kellysound/disney_march09/DSC_0032-3.jpg

Mother and I were eager to purchase some artifacts from the local market here, and found some splendid bargains at Daisy’s Garden, where to my dismay we did not get to meet Daisy or visit a garden.

fig E:
http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y15/kellysound/disney_march09/DSC_0033-3.jpg

We found a gallery featuring the work of background artist James Coleman

fig F:
http://www.genesisgalleryhawaii.com/JamesColeman/jco_AlohaDreams.jpg

and also stumbled upon a small boutique where I had the chance to speak with one of the local merchants, Stephen, while Mother purchased a purse from him at the sales counter. I was entranced by the colorful red, blue, and yellow bottles placed next to him at the register. I doused myself in the yellow substance, which smelled like peaches. Mother is intrigued by the red bottle, fails to turn the nozzle properly, and accidentally soaks me in that scent too. I smell pretty! Stephen is amused.

Walking back towards the Boardwalk, I am terrified when the sky starts exploding!

fig G:
http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y15/kellysound/disney_march09/DSC_0034-3.jpg

Despite my horrified screams and attempts to dive for cover, none of the other visitors seem concerned. The ordeal is over soon enough and we emerged unharmed, and Mother and I walk into a building with a large sign that reads JELLYROLLS.

Inside, we score a seat at a small table. To our left is a fellow adventurer from Texas who is absolutely giddy. I tell the waitress I’ll have whatever he’s having. She supplies a giant blue drink nearly twice the size of my head.

On stage sit two men billed as “dueling pianists,” but to my dismay neither seems interested in physically battling the other.

fig H:
http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y15/kellysound/disney_march09/DSC_0038-2.jpg

I notice other patrons occasionally running up to place money and handwritten notes atop the pianos. I also notice that the pianist on the left is extremely gorgeous. He is playing with such skill and speed that all the photos I take of him are blurry, as his hands move across the piano keys with the speed of light.

fig I:
http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y15/kellysound/disney_march09/DSC_0039-3.jpg

I write my phone number on a napkin and leave it on his piano with $5. He looks at it and says, “I don’t know that one.” Then he announces that they’re playing all requests tonight, so write your favorite song down and bring it up to him. I wish he had explained that before I threw away my $5. I comply, only to be called out again when the handsome creature reads my next napkin and admits that they are looking more for pop songs, and as much as they would like to, cannot play Ornette Coleman’s improv opus “Free Jazz” (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QEdZ68nKOCA). I try a final time with the classic Elton John song “I Guess That’s Why They Call It The Blues” (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ecU-e0XUMd8) and give up for good when that never gets played. I still enjoy hearing some of Orlando’s finest local music, such as a fabulous medley of Disney tunes. The pianists also play songs by Dave Matthews Band, Journey and Jimmy Buffet.

After a couple of hours, we stagger out of Jellyrolls and Alma leads us back to the Rosen Centre.

This morning’s plan was to arise at 7:30 for an invigorating bout of exercise. Instead, I elected to sleep until 9, when I opened my eyes to be greeted by a white mocha latte and pineapple pound cake. Hooray for Mother! I chomped on my treats while Mother finished some work, and after much dallying we were off to a mystical kingdom ruled by animals.

fig A:
http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y15/kellysound/disney_march09/DSC_0048-3.jpg

We boarded the noisy parking lot tram, where I received a call from my supervisor, who scolded me for answering. I screamed “What? WHAT?” at him over the din, and never quite figured out what he was calling me about. Probably to see how my expedition was going!

Into the ticket line we went, when a woman approached us. Upon learning that Mother did not have a park ticket, she led us secretly to a secret entrance with a secret turnstile. We learned that this mysterious woman was a Disney employee with a spare park hopper for the day! Hooray for free entry!

We had been given a special pass upon parking that entitled us to a free pin. I proudly presented my pass to a cast member at Island Mercantile, expecting to receive some sort of diamond-encrusted gold-plated bauble. Instead she tossed a hideous pink Tinkerbell watch pin in my direction, which immediately went into Mother’s bag. We were famished and began our search for nourishment in this strange land.

fig B:

fig C:
http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y15/kellysound/disney_march09/DSC_0044-3.jpg

We made our way to Asia, where lunch consisted of an exotic shrimp lo mein for Mother, and an ordinary cheeseburger with carrots & gelatin for me. After lunch we began the long trek to Africa. Mother, the ferverent birdwatcher, insists that we stop every few feet to photograph all the exotic birds that cross our path.

http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y15/kellysound/disney_march09/DSC_0110-2.jpg

Along the way I pause to lean against a tree, tired from chasing Boogle-Berried Storks and Pilates Parrots around with Mother. The tree pulled sharply away, and I looked up to see that it had the most beautiful face! I had discovered a human-tree hybrid! I managed to get several snapshots of the magical creature before she strolled away into the forest.

Eventually we made our way to Africa to explore the fabled Pagani Trail. I was most comfortable in the critter room, amongst such delights at the pancake tortoise and the Madagascar hissing cockroach.

I was eager to bring a specimen of the latter home, but could not get the lock off the cage, unfortunately.

Mother had run ahead to the aviary, where we spotted such treats as a Blue-Breasted Kingfisher and Taveta Golden Weaver.

I was determined to hunt down the Bearded Barbet for a picture – partially because it had an amusing name, and partially because it supposedly looks like this:

fig N:
http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y15/kellysound/disney_march09/barbet.jpg

I spotted a nametagged adventurer who I was sure could help us locate this hilarious bird, and he gave us helpful suggestions such as “I don’t know” and “I’ve never seen that bird before.” Mildly dissatisfied, we shouldered on.

Just ahead, we embark on a two week safari! And drink mystical tonics that glow in the dark!

I feel like I really lucked out with my pictures. She walked right by me and I was able to get a ton of shots!

This morning’s plan was to arise at 7:30 for an invigorating bout of exercise. Instead, I elected to sleep until 9, when I opened my eyes to be greeted by a white mocha latte and pineapple pound cake.
:lmao: This is pretty much what happens with me, too... I always have the best intentions to exercise at WDW, but it seldom (okay, never) happens. ;)

Eventually we made our way to Africa to explore the fabled Pagani Trail. I was most comfortable in the critter room, amongst such delights at the pancake tortoise and the Madagascar hissing cockroach.
What about the Naked Mole Rats?! Worth the price of admission, alone.

What was up with those free pins? I went the same time as you (just not as long, the 16th and 17th), and I got one of those free pin coupons on my parking thingy. (I didn't notice the ticket the 1st day, so I couldn't get the pin for that day. ) Anyway, the one I did get was a Mickey/Minnie Mary Poppins one. It wasn't very cute. Probably they were giving away all of their worst selling pins.

As we wandered through the African wilderness, I told Mother of a surprise I had planned – reservations for a two week safari! She was delighted, but I was a bit nervous that we wouldn’t make it in time. We were quite lost in the jungle. I paused to ask a local meerkat for directions.

fig A
http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y15/kellysound/disney_march09/DSC_0075.jpg

I was confidant that we would discover many creatures in the Orlando wilderness. We boarded a safari vehicle with our knowledgeable guide, good ol’ Whatshisname.

Mother was delighted that some of her avian friends came out to greet us.

fib C
http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y15/kellysound/disney_march09/DSC_0077.jpg

We spotted some marvelous new breeds of animal, which I, as their discoverer, took the liberty of naming:

http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y15/kellysound/disney_march09/DSC_0082-2.jpg

Then the most crushing thing happened – our safari adventure was cut short by poachers! Luckily, I used my astute detective skills to locate their captive, a baby elephant, and their evil plan was thwarted.

As we exited our safari vehicle we decided to sample some of the local fare, a cold dairy treat in the odd shape of a mouse’s head.

fig G

Still weary from our safari, and getting warm in the hot sun, Mother and I decided to take a swim. A quick dip in the ocean was sure to be refreshing. Well, I certainly was not prepared for our next discovery!

Diving deep down into the briny depths of the ocean deep, we were startled to come across a band of singing fishes! Most impressive was a gigantic seagull, nearly seventeen times the size of your typical land seagull!

figs a-b:

(Please forgive the blurriness of these photos, I foolishly failed to bring my underwater camera along.)

The fish serenade eventually ended, and we swam back to surface, where we came across a delightful trio of tree-monkeys who were sharing citrus.

fig c:
http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y15/kellysound/disney_march09/DSC_0102-3.jpg

It was then that I spotted the great mountain – Everest!

fig d:
http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y15/kellysound/disney_march09/DSC_0098-2.jpg

I knew this was a once-in-a-lifetime chance! I convinced Mother to make the trek.

http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y15/kellysound/disney_march09/DSC_0093-1.jpg

All of the information we read on our hike through the Everest welcome center indicated that this would be a perilous months-long journey, and I was prepared for the challenge. But truly, the trek was so exhilarating it felt as if it were over in a matter of mere minutes! I suppose that was for the better, as a yeti had ripped up some of the track, and later appeared to scream at us. We escaped of course, but I was quite worried about Mother, who spent our entire hike screaming in absolute terror. Afterwards she purchased a commemorative Everest windchime (not pictured) to forever remind her of the horrible experience.

At this point we were feeling a bit thirsty and tired, and decided to retire to a nearby lodge for drinks.

fig G:
http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y15/kellysound/disney_march09/DSC_0118.jpg

Mother’s Glowtini and my Moonstar Glowy Punch Beverage both arrived bursting with neon! We were shocked, but luckily the drinks tasted good. Though the pulsating light show in my glass gave me a bit of a headache. (Or maybe the rum gave me a headache. Maybe both.)

fig H:
http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y15/kellysound/disney_march09/DSC_0122.jpg

Soon a group of Mother’s friends joined us and we ordered another round (agave margarita for me this time). Then we wandered outside, exploring the lodge and all of the animals that resided there.

http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y15/kellysound/disney_march09/DSC_0131.jpg

Mother and I were even able to have our picture taken with one of the animals (seen behind us, with a white chest and brown head)

fig L:
http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y15/kellysound/disney_march09/DSC_0136.jpg

Soon it was time to dine at Jiko, where we had chicken BBQ flatbread, the oak filet with macaroni and cheese, scallops with butternut squash, and strawberry mousse. Our server Mary was divine, as was the food.

That night we slept soundly, though I was excited about the promise of the next day – my first solo adventure of the trip, into the most magical of kingdoms!!

I arose this morning to dine on eggs and fruit with Mother before I climbed into the automobile for my first day of solo adventuring. Eight glorious hours to myself to explore the Magic Kingdom! Woooooo, indeed.

This Magic Kingdom was buried deep in the most obscure and mystical of swamplands. One was not permitted to simply drive to its gates. Instead, I had to park miles away, then take a small tramcar to a busy monorail station, then climbed aboard a very crowded monorail. There I sat next to an adorable small girl, and we both eagerly watched the window as the majestic castle appeared on the horizon. She was excited to point out to me that it was ‘Princess Aurora’s Castle’. As young as she was I was wary of her information – I did later confirm that the castle actually belongs to Cinderella.

As finally we pulled up to Main Street’s gates, I disembarked and began a slow meander.

http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y15/kellysound/disney_march09/DSC_0043-1.jpg

What I learned was that the local children have little respect for their professors, and the transit system has an unfortunate problem with bears.

I continued my wandering, admiring the local buildings and décor.

I peeked into a cinema theatre, the seemingly abandoned Noodle Terrace, and then I was lucky enough to receive an invite – to a comedy show! Having never been to the theatre’s location of Monstropolis, I happily accepted. Soon I was treated to delightful entertainment from some of the city’s finest comedians, although I must admit feeling let down when a gentleman we were promised would treat us to churros did not uphold his end of the bargain.

I left Monstropolis and headed into a fantasy realm, where I was invited to yet another performance! I am pleased to see that the residents of this land have such a rich artistic culture. Mickey’s Philharmagic was playing at a local music hall. As I walked through the queue, I was a little disappointed to see posters of past performances that I had missed, such as the esteemed Willie the Whale in "I Paglucci". But I was sure this musical revue would be satisfactory.

Unfortunately, a pantless duck ruined the performance by swiping the conductor’s hat. I was irritated, but must admit that I enjoyed watching his foibles. I did draw the line at purchasing a ceremonial headdress to honor the troublesome fowl.

The excitement continued as next I was…drafted!

I was more than happy to report to Star Command for my next adventure. With great determination, I battled the evil emperor Zurg alongside Buzz Lightyear’s noble army. I fought hard and had the prestigious title of Space Ace bestowed upon me. An impressed bystander captured this shot of me in action, but as you can see I was moving so fast that it was impossible to get a clear photo.

I decided to investigate Tomorrowland’s public transit system, curious about how it would compare to SEPTA (Southeastern Pennsylvania Transport Authority - my usual mode of commuting). I climbed above the Tomorrowland Transportation Authority, scoring a prime front car. Below me, fools circled a track on primitive cars!

Hi Kelly! Just got back a few hours ago and I am making the round catching up with everybody.

Heyyy!!! Welcome back! I need to catch up on your TR now too. I hope you had an amazing trip.

Great update!! I really enjoyed it. Finding Nemo is one of our favorite shows. Last time we were there though, I fell asleep. My kids had to keep hitting me. :lmao: Sounds like you had a great day. Can't wait to read the rest of your trip.

I don't blame you for falling asleep, it is so dark and cool in there :rotfl:

Hooray! I finally caught your episode of What Not to Wear!! :yay:

I loved the short hair-do... I see you're letting it grow again, though! Please consider cutting it again, it was super-pretty!

You are too cute... I was yelling at Stacy and Clinton when they threw out your Disney bags! And then I was rolling :rotfl: when you took the "side trip" to the World of Disney Store!!!

I loved the show and hope you had fun doing it! :goodvibes

Kathy

p.s. Ed was watching too, and he thought Clinton was "very mean" to you. Tricia and I tried to explain that he's that way with everyone, but Ed still feels that "he needs his butt kicked!!!" :lmao:

Kathy

Thanks!! I have to say my hair is really long now. The short hair looked really good during the shoot but grew out way too quickly (I never could get it to look quite the same again, despite what Nick said on the show he doused my hair in all sorts of gels and hairsprays). Please tell Ed that Clinton was one of the nicest people I have ever met :)

'K, I'm gonna have to set the DVR, because I *never* catch the 1st 15 mintues or so of your episode! That is the only show I would ever go on (especially now that Bob Barker is off Price is Right).

Oh I LOVE Price is Right. I have to admit though I haven't watched it since Bob Barker left. If I could go on a game show I would want to be on Family Feud!! "Survey says..."
By the way I love your new Alice icon!

Great update and photos!!! The huge seagull does sound slightly scary though, but the neon drinkies sound much nicer! :goodvibes:goodvibes

Di x

Yes I have to agree on that :rotfl:

Yay so glad your back!

How interesting that your month long journey on Everest took only a mere few minutes. Great time! :goodvibes

It really was so exciting that our weeks and weeks of hiking just flew by! :teeth:

Yeah! An update! You two look like you had so much fun!

Thanks for the tip on your What Not To Wear show!

It was so fun! Once my mom forgave me for almost killing her on Everest that is

Nice to see you back!!

Thanks!!

I agree. Where were those places? *scratches head* In the train station?

Glad to read an update. I love Mickey's Philarmagic!! I could see that over an over again. Love the theater (did you see the hidden mickey?), the queue line...everything!

One of the days, I will try to the Speedway!

Thank you for the warning about the pantsless duck at the concert. If he attempts to disrupt the show next time I am there, I will be sure to cover the eyes of any small children seated near me.

Also, thought you might like to know that you may or may not have received a shoutout in the latest installment of my trippie (http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=2173104&page=36).... :rolleyes1

With hunger, I charged into Adventureland for tacos. Crispy!

I was eager to conquer the forboding Splash Mountain, and headed there next. What should have been a cheerful trek among my critter brethren turned dangerous when we were re-routed to “The Laughing Place”. With moldy river residue soaking my fine new Alice shirt, I soldiered on.

I meandered around the area while attempting to dry off, where I met such interesting characters as this bird, who Mother surely would have been excited to see

fig d:

In the quaint Liberty Sqaure I was lucky enough to catch a public taunting of two hardened criminals. I was comforted to know that the local law enforcement was savvy enough to catch such vagrants as these.

fig e:
http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y15/kellysound/disney_march09/DSC_0023-2.jpg

I also met these joyful-looking fellows dancing in a garden, but appearances were deceiving. Despite my grandest attempts to be friendly, they refused to respond with so much as a “how do you do?”

fig f:
http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y15/kellysound/disney_march09/DSC_0021-2.jpg

I soon forgot their rudeness as I was invited to an even more swingin’ party, at a mansion nonetheless!

fig g:
http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y15/kellysound/disney_march09/DSC_0037-2.jpg

It was simply the most elegant affair. I had a wonderful time ballroom dancing, touring the library and séance-room, and being treated to an outdoor concert from a barbershop quartet. I politely had to decline the host’s offer to take up permanent residence in the lovely mansion, as I had much more exploring to do.

And so I was drawn back to Adventureland, admiring the local architecture and nature.

I stumbled onto what looked like an ancient pirate jail. My expedition took me inside, where I found exciting old canons, barrels, maps, and other such piratey things.

fig k:
http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y15/kellysound/disney_march09/DSC_0031-2.jpg

Afterwards, it was time to conquer even more pirates, setting sail from the Darling’s bedroom.

fig l:
http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y15/kellysound/disney_march09/DSC_0044-2.jpg

I, of course, successfully led the local lost boys to a triumphant victory over the troublesome pirate gang. After feeding Captain Hook to a crocodile, I decided I had earned some relaxation. I began to head for the glorious Polynesian islands for some drinks and rest.

However, my plans were thwarted when I was accosted by the Move It Shake It Celebrate It parade! Characters surrounded me, demanding that I participate in their celebration. I am not sure what exactly we were celebrating, but in a panic and fear for my life, I dutifully “shook it.”

Yup, in the train station. I had never ever bothered to walk around in there before! I have always taken the train from Fronteirland or Toontown in the past.

I never noticed the hidden mickey in Philharmagic, where is it??

And I don't think you're missing anything where the Speedway is concerned...I've been on it twice ever, that's enough to last me a lifetime!

The hidden mickey at PhilarMagic is in the outline fo the stage in an instrucment (trombone?) on the right hand side, toward the top.

I took a pic and completely missed it! I even put a pic in my TR and didn't even realize it until later. I'll get the pic in a moment and post it.
