and I am bummed! :sad2:  I mean come on already, is nothing sacred. I feel so sad for all of them, they were like family. They were in business a long time, well before I started scrapping and had seen rough times before but were able to get through them. But not this time, not this economy.
I was suppose to be taking a 6 month Disney class there starting this month, but now I am not sure if it will just be for this month or if it will be cancelled all together. This also makes me sad, not as sad as I am about the store and people, but still sad.
Thanks for letting me vent. I just knew you guys would understand how sad this really is.

Oooooh! I feel your pain ... mine closed last summer ... it was about five minutes away and was huge and had EVERYTHING! It survived two floods before moving to the next town over. The owner said she would sit for a week and not a single soul would come in ... she had no choice : (

I hate to see the little mom and pop stores go under.

I know how you feel. Mine closed in November and I miss it so much! They'd been in business 9 years.

Yup, it's an awful time to be a small business. I closed my gift shop one year ago this month. It was the best decision i ever made -
So, while i am sure you are bummed (as i would be, we have no lss's here anymore either) think of this positive note: The store owners are probably relieved. When i decided to close - it was like a huge wave of relief swept over me, and i finally was able to enjoy life, sleep at night and get back to scrappin! LOL Seriously -- it's a tough thing, but there is a silver lining to those owners. ;) It is still sad though, to see all these small businesses have to close..

Thanks for all your responses. Just needed to share. And you are right Caitsmama, I am sure that it is a relief to the owner. But i sure am gonna miss it.
Thanks again,
Elsie

My little store fairly close by (20 minutes) closed last year (she was only open a few years). But my bigger non-chain LSS (40 minutes away) that has been around for many years is closing soon. I keep getting emails about what is on clearance. Today is 50% (or more, I can't remember) on all solid cardstock. Wish I could get there, but too much snow.
After this store closes I will have only the big-box type stores left. Very sad (well, there is one more store around, but I have never been there)....................P

My LSS was about to close a little over a year ago. She decided to sell. We thought there it goes. We didn’t think anyone would buy it in the state of the economy but someone did. She has turned it around and it is booming. She has classes nearly every day and every evening. Tons of demos and make and takes. She has even added photo processing. Always the latest lines of everything, things you can’t get at the big box stores. There are crops nearly every week. The place is buzzing. I truly feel you pain

We had a LSS that was basically run out of business by Recollections, then Recollections closed. :sad2: So, only bix box stores left now. I sure do miss the paper variety and the personnel. We are in a very large area...I can't believe there's not one around here.
There's a LSS about an hour from my parents house, so I always go there when I visit them. I only make it there a couple times a year, but I do try to support them. It's wonderful to have that option.

If you are talking about the store in Amherst, they still have a good selection of cardstock available and are now 75% off. I am trying to stock up because I don't know where I will go after she closes.

I hear ya. I've had a few favorite LSSs close on me while living in various parts of the east coast.
There's tons of online shopping options but it's just not the same as being able to go into a store, chit chat about your favorite hobby, and walk out with new items!

I really think mine is about to close. They haven't had any classes in a while and today I got an email that everything in the store is 65% off.

I feel your pain. :( My favorite LSS closed about 6 months ago. She said they were just moving, then they were going to sell it, but 6 months later, and I still haven't heard anything. :( I loved that store & the owner was awesome (and a big Disney fan.)

sad isn't it? We have nothing near by. Never really did. We had one small one about 5 minutes away but she didn't last long. My favorite was about 30 minutes away. I went almost every month. Loved it! She always showed me the new stuff. new what I scrapped and would tell me if something was on sale. I loved it. I spent way more in there simply because of customer service! But then she closed.....
Now the closes place is almost an hour away.....
On the plus side.....I don't spend nearly as much as I did and I am using all the stuff I stock piled.....

ITA- We've had a few close around us and it's sad to see them go for this exact reason.

What I'll miss the most is taking classes. Now all I have to look forward to is CKC for classes!

I live in Ottawa, Canada and we don't really have any lss anymore either. I think there is a small one in the east end of the city but I live in the west end and have been there only once when it opened. Other than that I only have Michaels. We don't even have Joannes or AC Moore. My sister lives in Syracuse and when I go visit I try to get to the stores but it does not usually happen due to time constraints. What I miss the most is going to the crops and spending the days with my friends and scrapbooking. I find I am just not doing it as much anymore.
