To everyone in Herc's Heroes or Jessica's Rabbits - don't worry. We'll get you on a team or you can keep the one you're in or form a new one. The listing at the top is just a draft to see what teams are staying together for now.
If you are not on a team now or would like to move to another team, post in this thread and we'll take care of you. :thumbsup2

Looking at the lists, it looks like the Triple D's are a little short-handed. I am sure we all would welcome any of Jessica's Rabbits or Herc's Heroes to our team. We always enjoy growing the family!!

Obviously I'm ashamed of my past record, I so fell off the wagon -
I think training for a wedding Jan '09 was too good of an "Excuse" in my brain...
Now dh is officially registered for the Goofy, and I"m a Half'er again - we'll be there - but I truly cannot train in the snow, and I cannot think beyond tomorrow (I have a son in treatment at a hospital 45 min from home) Yet, I will be better trained for '10 than I was for '08!!
so look out, give me a month and I'll be needing the nagging effects of team !

I am going to give up my amateur status and join the draft. I'm a Pisces with Aries rising, love long walks on the beach and run a 6-4 40 (not sure what that last part means it is from one of my favorite movies).
In as much seriousness as I can muster, I ran my first 1/2 marathon this year and was impressed by the number and spirit of the WISHERS I saw and I'd like to join. I'm doing the DL 1/2, want to do the TOT 13K and am filling out the paper work for the full in 2010. I don't really consider myself a runner as much as a Disney runner. Other races don't have that appeal.
Anyway I will try to be a productive and helpful member of any team I end up on.
Thanks-

Low mileage? Whatcha talking about, Willis? I don't think the words "low mileage" and Jeff go together. When he goes out for a short run, it's usually around 15 miles. :lmao:

I'm already having trouble keeping up with the posts (not a good sign, and exactly why I need to be on a team rather than try to keep up with the weekly thread!). If I've already been assigned and missed it, I apologize. But I would love to be on any of the teams. I probably won't do any other races before the 2010 half, so I won't be adding mega-miles to anyone's spreadsheet. I have lurked around here for a couple of years, though, and it's time to meet some people!

I'd like to get on a team for the WDW 2010 half. I have never run in a competitive event and just started C25K this week. I am planning to run in a local 5k at the end of April.
When I saw DRAFT I was worried I wouldn't get taken until day two. I am hopeful that DRAFT in this sense is just "not final"
Looking at the team and weekly training threads I think it would be a great motivator. I haven't been to WDW since 2005 and this is a wonderful thing to shoot for. I like big goals!
Thanks,

Ha -- that's what I initially thought when I saw draft, too. Triggered unpleasant flashbacks to waiting to be picked for kickball!!
Well, the beauty of this draft is that everyone gets picked in the first round! :thumbsup2 :cheer2:

In reviewing the teams and their stories, I think the Buzz Brigade seem to fit my situation the best as their captain story is one I can relate to. Currently, I have not run to the refrigerator, much less anything else. My goal is to run the Tower orTerror 13k this October and to loss weight during the training. I am a little intimidated as I see most everyone here have done some (ok a lot) of races. If this group is not for beginners just let me know.

The DH and I are trying to get into running this year, and plan on running a couple of 5K's to start with. I would love to find out what the teams are all about...it sounds fun!
You've come to the right place! The WISH board is an excellent way to meet other runners, walkers, cyclists, etc. Be sure to visit the main weekly thread, Week of Feb 1 - WISH Team Walkers and Runners (http://disboards.com/showthread.php?t=2076907) for great support and to get to know many of the WISHers. Also, be sure to visit Welcome to the WISH team (http://disboards.com/showthread.php?t=1831900) for further information on the WISH Team in general.
Because there are so many of us now, some people get kind of "lost" in the main thread and board in general. The smaller teams offer another way to get to know other WISHers and to offer and get encouragement and support while training for a new event or just exercising in general. The team members range from beginners to experts. All are welcome!
One thing that the teams do is keep track of total overall hours and miles of its members each month. If you would like to post how much time you spent exercising/training and how many miles you ran/walked/cycled, etc., your attempts will be added to the team total. However, it is NOT necessary that you do so as some team members are there to act as "cheerleaders" or offer support in other ways.
Does this sound like something you and your DH would like to participate in? If so, let me know and I'll be happy to add you to a team. :thumbsup2

I'd really like to join a team this year! I was a bit intimidated by all you WISH folks last year when I was training for the half marathon, but I met a few of you nice people while waiting around at the start of the race, and have decided to sign up!
I finished the half marathon last month in 2:29 and had a great time doing it.... except for that silly banked overpass around mile 11! :sad2: It was my first real race, and how I'm addicted! My goal for the half was 2:30, and I managed to beat that by 27 seconds! pixiedust: Once we'd regained the ability to walk around the Magic Kingdom without hobbling (by about 8:00 that evening), we made the decision to do the full marathon in 2010! I'm really excited about this challenge; it felt so great to do the half, but we had a bit of Mickey Medal Envy the next day. I really want to finish in 5 hours, but we'll see how that goal changes as my distances increase while training. I'm also planning on running the Rock and Roll Seattle half marathon in late June, which I hope to do in less than 2:15.
So, I'd love to join a team if y'all wouldn't mind having me! I'm really looking forward to having people to rant and rave about training with, so that my friends and co-workers aren't totally tired of me again by Christmas!

Maybe you can give us some tips as to where to stay. :thumbsup2 I'm sure we'll be getting together at some point outside of the race and would love to have you join us! I'm looking forward to meeting you there!
Thanks a lot for placing me and for all your time put in monitoring and responding to this thread! :worship:

Hi Jack! Welcome to the WISH teams!
I thought the same thing when I trained for my first half and full. Why not do it at the happiest place on earth? :teeth:
I put you with Team Hakuna Matata. Great bunch of folks that will motivate you and support you through your ups and downs with the training. Hopefully, you'll have all ups! :thumbsup2 See you at the marathon next year!
Thanks! I've been reading their thread, very impressive bunch. I share the Hakuna Matata philosophy, I hope I can keep up with them...... :yay:

Hi Angela! I'm going to add you to our newest team, Rebel Alliance! I don't think it will be long before the team fills up once Dave puts the word out that we're recruiting. :cool1: :thumbsup2
I'm going to be in your neck of the woods in a couple of weeks. I'm going to sign up for the Gasparillo half. I wanted to do the 15K but in order to get the good airfare, I had to arrive on Saturday. Now, how's that for determining which race to do. Ha!
I also see you are going to do a marathon in ROME! I LOVE Rome. I'm sure you'll have a blast. One of my goals is to do a half (or maybe a full) overseas. The only things preventing me from doing one now are $$$, time and finding one during school vacations. :teeth:

I'd like to join a team. Am I too late? What information do I need to provide and can someone direct me to a thread that explains how the teams work?
ETA: I just read through this thread and figured I should add some information about myself to help you place me on a team.
I just did my first WDW race in January (the half). I had a great time, but did it alone and would have loved to have been part of a WISH team. The WDW half was my 4th long distance race. I've also done:
San Francisco Half in July 2007
Army 10-miler in October 2008
Big Sur Half Marathon in November 2008
This is how I describe my running/exercising self. I'm not (YET!!!) a dedicated runner, but I LOVE doing races. I know that makes absolutely no sense but I run because I like the events, not the other way around. I'm working on that though and I'm hoping that this is the year that I actually become a RUNNER. I use the Jeff Galloway method and walk-run my races. I ran 3 minutes/walked 1 minute to get through the WDW half and it worked out well for me. I go to the gym 3 times a week and do BodyPump (group weightlifting class) twice a week and I spin once a week. I'm trying to increase my gym workouts this year too.
We are a military family and we are moving overseas this summer, to Austria. I'm not committed to any races right now, because our moving schedule will be hectic, but I would like to squeeze something in before we move. If I can make arrangements, I may run the Nutmeg State Half Marathon (CT) in April, but I haven't committed yet. My current long term goal is to run the Vienna FULL marathon in April 2010. I hope I can make that happen and that's the big goal I want to work on this year!
I'm not sure if I should request a team or not, but if so, can I be on the Ohana team?

I had to look up the Rain Man tri and it looks like a lot of fun! I'm very intrigued about the indoor bike concept.
We're only signed up for the Rock and Roll half marathon in June, so far. We do have to sign up for at least one more (not that that will be hard) event this year, however, since we have a comped entry from Pro Motion Events from the shambles that was the cancellation of the 12K's of Christmas in Kirkland in December. But that's it so far. Need to work on that.

As we head into April, here's a couple of updates until Susie comes back:
1) Any WISHers wanting to join the team challenge? Please feel free to post here. It's not too late to get the extra support, accountability, and fun of the team challenge. Plus, there's the cool siggie bling.
2) Team captains and co-captains: Take a look at the rosters on the Susie's first post, and let me know if they're accurate. Team Rebel Alliance is nearing balance with the other teams, which means we'll be distributing new members among the teams once they're filled. So we'll need to know how many people are actively participating on a team. (Note: if you've got a person on injured reserve, vacation, etc. they're still a member of your team. But if someone has dropped out, let me know so the team's can be balanced.)

I'm a in-line skating, hockey playing, triathlete working mom who is signed up for a few sprint tris this summer, my longest triathlon ever (1.5K/40K/10K) in September & WDW 1/2 in 2010 - my first running-only race!
That all makes me sound more athletic than I really am. I don't exacly "race", I "attempt to compete."

Hey, Sk8tingmom! I remember you and what great progress you've been making! Long time, no see--I haven't been on the weekly thread as much as I should be. Continue to post on the weekly thread, and I'll try to get there more often to say hi! :flower3:
You're doing some tris, so I'm going to place you with the Super Goofs! I think you'll find the support and encouragement from any of the threads, but there are a couple of triathletes there.
Just head on over and introduce yourself. I'll let you them know you're coming! :goodvibes

Hi! I've been lurking on the WISH threads for a while, and I am interested in joining one of the teams.
I am new to all of this. I bought a treadmill about 2 weeks ago, and am running/walking 4 times per week. Right now I am only up to a little over 2 miles at a 15 minute per mile pace, but improving with each session. I know I have a long way to go, but I am excited and motivated. I also would like to lose about 20lbs, but that is secondary, and I think it will come in time with my new training.
I am working up to the Couch to 5k plan. I also just bought Marathoning for Mortals.
I have signed up for the Disney 1/2 Marathon in January, and plan on running a few local 5k races.
I don't want to hold back any of the teams with my short mileage. But in time, I know I'll be able to add to the totals!

Congratulations on de-lurking and joining WISH! :welcome:I'm sure you'll love it here. And the January Marathon weekend is a blast!
And what an exciting time for you: new treadmill, seeing steady improviment, new plans (I did C25K & love Marathoning for Mortals), and signing up for races. I look forward to hearing about all of this on the weekly thread in addition to your team thread.
Speaking of teams, they're all about motivation and encouragement, so don't worry about any team "back." You'd be a valuable asset to any team--I can tell just from your excitement--but I'm putting you with Hakuna Matata. Lots of experienced folks there to help you with any training or race-day strategies. I'll let them explain the team challenge, if you have any questions. Just go on over and introduce yourself! :goodvibes

Hello! I was a member of SuperGoofs for a while last year before life got in the way and I went on an 8-month hiatus. I recently started running again and I'd love to rejoin my old team for the 2009 challenge...if they'll have me. The Air Force moved my family to Oklahoma City last summer, so because of the distance/expense there are no Disney races scheduled in my near future, although we are planning a vacation to the World in December of this year  I will be running (jogging :)) the Rock n Roll San Antonio Half Marathon in November and have found that having a challenge team to hold you accountable makes it a little easier to stay on track with training.

Welcome back to the WISH teams, Shannon! Go on over to the Goofs. I'm sure they'll love to have you back! Congrats on signing up for RnR San Antonio 1/2--it's supposed to be a good one! I hear Oklahoma City has a good race, too, so maybe relocation was just the thing to get you to try new events. :thumbsup2

Jennifer,
Welcome to the teams! You just started and have already completed a 5K. Wonderful! :cheer2:
Any team would love to have you, but I think you'll enjoy being with Walt's Warriors if you're planning on doing the TOT 13K because I think Tracy, the co-captain, is doing the race. (I did it last year, and it was fabulous.) Just go over to the warriors and introduce yourself!
Also, there might be a way to get into the half, if you book a race package that includes your hotel. I'm not as savvy with those details, so be sure to ask about the possibility on your team thread and on the weekly thread. (On the weekly thread, I think Frank/Fire Dancer will be able to answer your question.)

Hi my name is Dave & I'm from Plymouth MA. I have run all 4 Goofy's and I'm coming back for the 5th !! I am having a harder time this year keeping my running going so a friend suggested I join a group. Nothing around here, but I thought about Wish. I knew about wish from my 7 Disney marathon's and have chatted to many members during the races. I found your thead. I was wondering if you could use another member. It would help me make it back on track!! I bring some "Disney" knowledge" to the table since I have been a DVC member since 1997. Please let me know what team I would be on and how I would log info. Thanks Dave

Ooooh, Disney knowledge. You just said the magic words, Dave! ;) We'd love to have you on a team. Any team would be lucky to have you, but I'm going to place you with the DDDs. I think they've got a good mix of folks to help keep you motivated, while your experience (running and with DVC) will be a welcomed addition. Hi!
I would love to join a team. I just ran my first 5k this weekend (Komen for the Cure Global Race in DC) and my SIL has talked me into running the Princess 1/2 marathon next year. This is my "recovery week", so I am spending lots of time browsing these forums, lol.
I am currently using the Galloway method, doing the conditioning level first, then moving on to the 1/2 marathon training program. So, I'm not running a lot of miles to start with, but I'll get there!
Thanks!

I definitely didn't break any records, either, lol. There were so many walkers that started early, that it really made running hard. I ended up walking near the monument turn because I couldn't get around the walkers and I was getting so frustrated. I hope they have better communication next year about when the runners should start vs the walkers.

I told my husband I probably ran a 10K with all the zig zagging and in and out around the walkers. They weren't speed walkers either. Just out for a stroll, 4 wide holding hands. It was very frustrating. We figured since they were a half hour late with the start that the walkers just went ahead and started. You would think they could keep to one side. I would start to get into a good pace and then run up on a huge group. Very frustrating. My friend, who has done it several times, said she had never seen it that bad. She did say it definitely wasn't a race that you would do to get a good time though. Just too many people.

I ended up in the way back of the runner start, and there were walkers over there! They didn't want to walk "all of the way" over to the walker start.
Yeah, I think next year they need to divide the streets so walkers are on one side and runners on the other OR put up a barrier so the walkers can't start until their correct time. In a sea of 45,000 people, it's going to be hard no matter what, but I think they could have done a better job, especially when there were only like 10,000 runners. It didn't take me that long to get to the start line from the back.

Hi there,
I'm hoping to join a WiSH team. I have run the WDW marathon before, and the 2010 Goofy be at least my 5th marathon. I know of a few people from the Disney Running site, like Jeff "mkymsehi" and would like to be on a team with them, but it's cool with however I end up.
My wife "jkmmah" has been a long time DIS board member, and she ran the WDW Half Mary last year. She may do the full this year!
Thanks,
James

Sorry to have missed you--this is the old(er) thread for the recruitment and I missed the request.
So just head on over to Team Rebel Alliance's thread, located here (http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=2216307) (I don't think they started an August thread, and introduce yourself! Anything you want to let them know--your name, background, upcoming events, questions.... They'll clue you in on the "rules" of our friendly challenge. (If you don't mind giving me your name, I'll also add you to the Team roster, here (http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=2198827)).
