Hello all. We will be sailing on the Wonder for 3 nights following our 4 night stay at the Port Orleans Riverfront. On our cruise, we will have:
Me (Joe)
Wife (Jamie)
Son (Jacob 5 y/o)
Daughter (Jenna 2 and 1/2)
Our daughter Jenna, will be 2 weeks from her 3rd birthday when we sail, and will be enrolling in the Kids Clubs when we get there.
We are really looking forward to this trip, and plan on doing the Fish Extenders. Hope to hear from some others!

DVC Member here! BWV, VWL, VB, BCV and AKV are our homes. Trying them all has been hard on our pocketbook!:) We're not booked on points, though.
We'll be looking for kimpossible's family at the pool. It is Flower and Garden time, so I may not be by pool as much...and really one one full day at BCV for me...but we'll see. The DGC LOVE the Pirate slide at SAB!

I'm not sure how fast it books up. I figured, since I was up getting the Palo ressie, I would just do both.
BTW at midnight, everything was available for Palo. Wish I could say the same for the Fantasmic DP when I called.

Hopefully we will get our room numbers about 2-3 weeks before cruising, at that time, we can make a list of all the room numbers and who is in what room so we can do the fish extender. I hope all can join, it was very fun on my last cruise. My daughter loved checking it every time we got back to the room and getting a little goodie bag. I will make up the list if no one else is interested in doing it.

Finally the day came for us to book the Dolphin Encounter shore excursion, the one at the Blue Lagoon. All 9 of us are going and on the morning trip, none of us wanted to be late for dinner! Is anyone else from here doing that shore excursion.
We visited our DGC over the weekend, and showed them the pictures of the dolphins and the Blue Lagoon area. The time will just fly by now!

We are surprising the girls, picking up Alyssa on last day of school at lunch and heading down from Alabama!! I want to do the fish extenders also. Can someone point me to a good thread on those?

Hey, not much longer!!! I didn't say before that we also have a soon-to-be 20 year old son in college at Auburn. I didn't book him because it bumped the price WAY UP. I feel kind of bad now that he can't go. But then he is going on the other cruise the next week with us (5/3). A large group of almost 20 are going. The kids sail free is a great thing but I hate it for families of more than 4.

Basically you need to have a bag for the family or each child outside your cabin, I would hang it on the metal fish outside the door or you can make a fish extender. People sell them on ebay just search fish extender. What I have done in the past and what it seems like most do is make a little goody bag for each child and then you can make just 1 for the adults. sometimes people only give things to the kids. If someone is doing it without children I normally get them a little extra stuff. Let me know if you have anymore questions.
PS Don't forget your door magnets as well.

We may be able to do the fish extenders if I get some time to organize it. what's the latest you need to know?
Also, on doing the magnets, what kind of paper do you print these on? as you can see, I'm not real crafty. when I get a chance, I've got to go look at that thread on how to make. I've got the names made; I just haven't printed them yet, not real sure on how to do that.
Any suggestions would be great.

I had trouble finding paper, so I just printed on regular paper and had them lamenated at Staples. I put buisness card magnets that I bought at AC Moore on the back. This seems to work just fine.

That's exactly what I did as well. Because if you mess up that magnet paper is pricey. The business card magnets are great as well as a roll of magnet tape that you can cut whatever size you like.

Basically you need to decorate a nice bag and hang outside your room on the fish hook so everyone can deliver their gifts to you. or you can search the blog or on ebay for fish extender. I purchased one from ebay because I am not handy when it comes to sewing. But I've since everything from a plain white shopping bag, to a fancy decorative bag, to a book bag to a fish extender like the ones listed on ebay.

Hello to all my fellow cruise mates!
I can hardly wait.... Only 20 more days to go, OH MY. My name is Jennifer and It will be my husband and I along with our 6 yr old boy, girl twins. This is me and my families first time sailing with Disney. This will be interesting. We are also sailing with a group of 11. My sister in law Kristie is the one organizing the FE for all of us.
We will be boarding very early and hanging out at the pool. I would love to set up a meet and greet around the pool and also for a sail away party. If anyone interested in joining us please let me know so we can organize a place to meet.
Looking forward to meeting all!!!
Jennifer
So happy you finally joined us.
Yes that will be fun, if we could meet at the port or by the pool. We will all be at the port by 10am and after checking in, we will be near the big mickey ears to walk through to get on board. You will not be able to miss us, if you can't hear us, you can look for us, we will have 11 of us and we all love Mickey and go crazy for him. After lunch I'm sure the kids will be running straight to the pool.

This is our 2nd time on the cruise. We went back in February and we had a blast. It is so much fun!
We are arriving on Wed, May 20th as well and we will be at Ron Jon hotel. The hotel seems awesome. It has a lazy river, water slide, pool, movie theater, arcade, etc. We should be by the pool area about 2-3ish pm. Look for us - we will be the party of 11.

we are going to drive our car to the port and park. I think it's the safest and I believe it was $12 in Feb a day. Ron jon is kind of hidden so I'm not sure how safe that is and how much security they have driving through the parking areas.

This cruise dressing is very different than the many others I have been on. I don't think we saw anything in dresses, etc. Most were dressed very causal and comfortable. We are all about being comfortable and causal. Now pirate nice is a different story - my daughter is in love with pirates and I think sometimes she thinks she is one, so we all were pirates for Halloween and we will be wearing full costume. The rest of our gang will be dressed up as well. It was so much fun in Feb. You will love it!!
Hope we get to meet up at the pool on Wednesday so we can chat and maybe drive to the port together and have lunch on board, etc.

Our trip is a surprise too! Emma's birthday is on the 25th (and Dh's is on the 24th--but he knows about the trip). We're leaving on the 19th right after school and driving to a hotel near the airport. When she asks what we are doing, I'm going to give her an early birthday gift (the cruise docs). We'll be at WDW on the 20th and drive over to the port early on the 21st.
I'm game for the movies! I never get to see non-kid movies except when I sneak off with some of my other mom-friends!

We're just thinking of getting a hotel along the way because we're not sure how far we'll make it that evening. If we can get off work by lunch, we'll drive all the way. If not, we'll stay along the interstate. We're coming from Montgomery.

Great, you will be getting there about the same time as all of us. We have all driving in different cars and not following each other but we all are planning on the same time. I think my SIL is making a flag not poster, ha!
You can pass on Universal with a 4 almost 5 year old. She will not be able to do much at all and it will be hot and she will proably get cranky. I would say spend the extra day at MGM Studios - my daughter loves it. If your daughter is into High School Musical, Little Mermaid, etc. This is the place to go. They have a High School Muscial show, Little Mermaid show, a new parade which is awesome with a lot of the newer characters, and the Fantasmic Show can't be missed. If you only do one thing I would say go to Fantasmic Show. It's out of this world. Or if you want to save some money Downtown Disney is a great place to hang out as well. They have Lego store, Rainforest Cafe and a Dinosaur Cafe to eat at, you can make your own yummy treats at Goofy's Candy Store and they are shops, etc to walk around. You can spend all day there. And if you like Disney Xmas decorations - they have a whole huge store of just Xmas decorations (this is my fav store). Definitely do Magic Kingdom though. Great rides, characters, etc.

When we called and made the reservations at Ron Jon's they stated we can check in and use the resort the whole day but our room will not be ready until late after 4pm. That's fine, we just want to sit and relax and enjoy our pre-cruise day.

I have a question about Sea Lice. According to the "sticky" this could be a problem during the time we're traveling. Is anyone taking precautions? The last post on the sticky thread is from a few years ago, and I don't know if I should mention it to my family or should I just keep the hazzard to myself.

We did this in Feb. YOu have to put it in a bag with the markers you want them to sign it with and then a nice thank you note with a small gift - candy, phone card, etc is nice for them and let them know if you want the Fab 5 to sign or all the characters. Also include your name and cabin number.
Take it to the front desk on day one and you will receive back the last night in your cabin.

Everyone does it different - 1 way is to make up goody bags and delivery one day of the cruise. another way is no get a few small items and put something in there each day. Examples of items would be things you can find in the Dollar Store or at Target in the $1 area. For the kids, I kind of thing of it as birthday goody bags. What would I give if I was having a birthday party

Thanks for the pillow case info I also am thinking of get a picture frame done as well. :sail:

I have a question about Sea Lice. According to the "sticky" this could be a problem during the time we're traveling. Is anyone taking precautions? The last post on the sticky thread is from a few years ago, and I don't know if I should mention it to my family or should I just keep the hazzard to myself.

I would not worry about the sea lice, if they think it will be a problem when we go to castaway cay they will notify swimmers or you can ask. You can google sea lice to get more info on it. I have never had a problem or ever know anyone to have a problem before and I live in SFL.

Hi all! First off let me introduce myself.... I am Jamie InDashMp3's wife. We too will be sailing with you all. My husband actually started this thread but it's been awhile since either one of us have been on this board. We were just talking and realized that we never responded to joining the fish extender list. Please tell me we are not too late. I saw in a previous post that SneakyPigs asked that we give no less than one week notice. I know we are just over a week out so I am hoping that this is okay. I actually have been slacking a little in the preping department for the cruise. We are doing a land/sea vacation and will be on land first. I kind have been doing a lot to get ready for our land portion of the trip. Opps!
We are a family of four. Myself (Jamie), My Hubby (Joe), Jacob (5), and Jenna (2 almost 3). I have however done a bit of shopping for gifts for the extenders already. If we are too late I totally understand. We can't wait only 9 more days til we board. Woo Hoo!:cool1::yay:
Thanks so Much!

We went on the cruise at the end of Feb and had no problem. I don't think it'll be an issue. If it's really boy I would think Disney would let us know. I would keep this a secret to yourself for now.

Ok...I'm apologizing in advance that my actual FE that we hang up is going to be VERY SIMPLE! I'm looking at everything I need to do this week-end and realizing I not going to have a lot of time to work on it. I may end up just stenciling a canvas bag or something like that. Will that work?

Hello!!! Don't sweet the small stuff... I am probobly just using my daughters Hannah Montana tote bay myself... I started to make myself crazy making a FE and when I went to about 5-6stores looking for Micky material I throw in the towel and said I am using a tote....

I haven't been on this for awhile and didn't realize this thread was still going. I used to get emails telling me when there was a post but lately, I haven't gotten any.
Re: FE - last time I bought canvas tote bags at Wal-Mart and paint and did it very simple. Most people don't even know about FE's and I think that is what I'm doing again. If it's not too late, could you please add us to the Fish Extender's. It's Lou and Bev (cabin 7629) getting married on 5/22/09. We have 30 people joining us but they don't understand about the FE so I'm going to buy canvas bags from Wal-Mart for them and give them gifts everyday in addition to this group.
Re: last day - in the past we were told to eat breakfast and unlike the other ships with color coded tags, we were allowed to walk off the ship as soon as it's cleared - usually by 730 am. It's no hassle and so easy - the Disney Difference.
Looking forward to meeting everyone.

I agree about it's hard for famlies of 5! We've booked 2 indoor cabins for DS's family and they are connecting rooms. Still, there are 3 children and because of the way we had to book them, only 1 was really "free" the others are paying adult fares.
We'll be at the BCV pool on Wednesday afternoon. The family that's already down there are having a great time.
Those FE really look great! The next time I'll ask DDiL if they could do that. This time, we're getting the pillowcases signed. I bought the sharpies today!

We got back last evening. We had a nice cruise although we were delayed in getting on the ship which was a bummer as it was such a short cruise anyway. Glad for the safety though. I just wished we were one of the ones onboard earlier. We spent four hours trying to get on. We also really missed the sunshine!! I'm just hoping this rain will stop before we leave again on Friday.
Thanks for all the great gifts!! The girls really enjoyed that. What really stood out on this cruise for us was the Disney shows. The food was a little bit too strange (dining room) and fancy but overall good. I see why some people have been complaining about the new menus though. I wish we would've skipped dinner and let the girls enjoy the kids clubs a little more. Three day cruises are just too short.

I can't believe that I found this thread after the cruise. We were on the cruise that bobbed up and down the 1st night. Lol! But, despite waiting outside the ship for 3 hours and it raining on Castaway Cay day, we had a great time. My son spent a lot of time in the Oceaneers Lab, which gave my wife and I much needed time alone. It was our first cruise and we are arleady looking to book our next one. Maybe a 4 night this time.

Thank you so very much for the pencil holder that was a great idea since we did get alot of pecils and markers. It will make great use for keeping in the car to take into resturants and other places. THe kids had so much fun recieving all the great gifts and checking ou fish extender everytime we came back to the room.
I have to agree with you about being on a 3 day cruise, way to short. THe shows we great. I wish I saw the show on the last night, but by then I was so tired and if I would of gone I would have fallen asleep. I don't think a 3 day cruise is worth it. It has to be at least a 4 day. Over all the cruise was nice. The kids had fun. THe food was ok, but not the best.
WHen we got home on Sunday my kids fell asleep at 3:30 inthe afternoon and did not wake till 7 the next morning. Boy that was a first for them.
I wish I could of got the honor to meet you guys. I love to at least put the face to the name. Was this your first cruise?

Glad you liked the pencil holders. Wish we could've met some others. We did meet Jacob and his sister. We heard Fred and Angelina's name called out on the crab race but it was packed and I didn't get a chance to meet you. We raced in the first race. Well, I don't know if you'd call it that as our crab didn't move!!! And the race was rained out.
No more 3 night cruises with the kids though. We did one by ourselves for our 15th anniversary and that was all right. It was just too tiring and so many things we wanted to do. We LOVED the deck parties!! If we had to do it over, we'd skip dinner and let the kids enjoy the clubs more. We missed the Goofy's Gallery food and that would've probably been good for dinner. We love the sun and pool and beach and it was just so disappointing not to be able to enjoy that!! We did stay on the boat in Nassau and the girls enjoyed the Mickey pool.

Ugg the embarkation was awful and I'm glad we finally did make it on the ship. The car rental shuttle got stuck in the traffic and we made it on at 4 something, we missed the safety boat drill.
All 9 of us loved the cruise and booked another one for November 2010. We got the pillowcases signed and they are a huge hit with the DGC. We had 8 pillowcases and I had given 4 family packs of candies. The Guest Services person was truly helpful and glad to get the candy.
Our waitstaff truly made our DGC feel special. We were going to go on a DVC Member Cruise in 2010 if DVC offered it, but on Saturday morning I went over the fun we were having and just asked if anyone was interested in doing it again and well, YES was the answer. We did 2 DCL cruses without the DGC, we loved them both, but for me, it was just extra extra special with the whole family aboard!!

Okay. I just finished washing, drying, ironing...getting blue crayon out... from the vacation clothes. Despite all of the chaos surrounding this trip (we were in the monsoon rains at the parks the week prior) and the craziness surrounding the departure (we were in the fire evacuation but luckily on board for the security breech ) we loved the trip. I guess I was expecting worse, but I even enjoyed the food :goodvibes
We re-booked for Oct 2010 to celebrate DS's 10th b-day.
Yes, we did get sea sick on the first night (but not too bad). But I am so glad I was able to upgrade to the verandah cabin on deck 6 (while at port). I think it did help. I loved seeing all of your FE's even though we did not participate.
I also enjoyed meeting some of you throughout the stay.
Now, if only I can convince my family that our stateroom host did not follow us home and we do need to pick up for ourselves :rotfl:
Thanks again for a super trip!

Hello!
Sorry we missed you!!! DID you get sea sick? ME and my husband did not but my kids did. Have you ever did any othe cruise? Or was Disney your first cuise ever? I have been on several cruises but this is the first time I have ever done a Disney. I have never done a 3 day cruise before and never will again. It is so not worth it. If youare gonna do it I say 4 days or more.
Jenn. No, we didn't get sick, but the first couple of times the boat swayed, I thought I was dizzy. I thought that maybe I was lightheaded. But, it wasn't me that was moving, it was the boat. Lol! This was our very first cruise, so it was probably easier to please us. But, I definitely want to do a 7 night next. I really want to get on the Magic.

I am so glad to here you had a wonderful time. WE were one of the lucky ones to get on the ship early and start our day early. Although it was quite hacktack in the beginning with the evacuation an all.
We had picture frames signed. I think the kids would have appreceated the pillow cases more.
WE enjoed the cruise but I do not think we will ever do a Disney cruise again. I enjoy regular cruises. To hang with Mickey and the gang, The magic I feel comes from being in the parks and hotel grounds.
Anyhow, I am glad to to here you booked another cruise. :cheer2: Is it a 4 or 7 day?

Thank you so much for the gifts. My kids also loved checking it everytime we came back to the room. They also loved going around putting everything in the FE. I wish I would have made it to go around to all the rooms everyday. They had so much fun!!!
Did you ever make it to any of the movies? I know you really wanted to sneak off!!! We went to the Hannah Montana movie. My kids really enjoy that movie. Wish I could have seen Shopaholic! I guess I will have to sneek off here :rolleyes1!!!LOL

Made it home last night. We had a blast. Can't wait to do another cruise! It was so much fun. I want to do a 7 night next time. 3 nights was to short. Besides the rain and the boat rocking it was the best vacation. My daughter loved it. We had fun at Unv. and disney after words as well. Thanks to all of you for the gifts. She is playing with them as I write this. Lots of unpacking to do. So sad to be back at home. Going to look up deals to go back as soon as we can. Thats after we pay this one off LOL! Thanks again.

Just another 3 night. The DS's family will go to Florida on the Sunday before the cruise again, and DH and I will come after working on Tuesday. Plus, we're DVC owners and weekday nights cost a lot less than weekend ones, and so this way we're using weekend nights on the cruise. Our DGC are now 4, 5 and 6....the characters were huge huge hits. Only at the end did we notice the signs in the atrium that gave the times/places of the particular characters. That would have made it easier for DDiL!
After this next cruise, we would probably do a longer one if we're able to. DH and I have a 11 night Princess cruise to the Baltic planned for this September.
We are not committed to do DCL exclusively.
I'm glad you were already on board when the trouble was found at the port. We were truly only 4-5 cars away from the gate. It was very frustrating.
I'm bringing our pillowcases with me to Cape May later today...the kids have theirs at their own house, but this way when they visit us in Cape May, they'll also have some nice Disney pillowcases to dream on!
