Hello everyone!
For those new to us, we are a group of people who are planning to participate in walking/running events throughout the year. For most of us, the ultimate goal is to train and compete in the annual WDW Half/Full marathons. We'll also be posting news and training for various other events throughout the year. We range from beginners to triathletes. Come join us, whether you're training for an event or walking/running for fitness!
New WISH Team members. If you read one thing over and over, believe this. Being part of this team is fantastic. Part of the ride you get for the event is what I call the roller coaster. There will be lots of ups and downs. The more you post here, the more you will find yourself enjoying the ride. It is an incredible journey. Don't be afraid, shy or whatever to come here and just post up anything. You don't have to know us right away, or all of us at all. You will get to know some of us. It makes the event you are enjoying have MORE meaning and we love to have you.

Nothing exciting for me this week. I didn't feel well this morning so put off my 8 miler for tomorrow. I am officially registered for the Princess half. CMM is not looking good...my mom has Field Day at her school on that Fri so likely won't be able to come up and hangout with the girls.
Great to see so many new folks joining us!
Terri...congrats!!
Tracy...how was ING?
Zalansky...howdy neighbor! I just told DH today that we really need to do one of the Gasparilla races one year.
Good training everyone!

Hey team,
Hope everyone's having a great weekend.
I'm headed out for a run Sunday morning. I attempted 8 miles last Tuesday and Thursday, but the legs vetoed that. Ended up with 6 miles each day.
Hopefully 8 tomorrow. Start of a whole new season, so I'm not going to push it.

This week will be staring slowly for me. I gotta' work tomorrow, So Monday I'm going to try to bike & run.
I have a 1/2 marathon in 3 weeks that I have to prepare for. My double secret goal is to break 2 hours (like THAT is gonna' happen!).
You guys all rock!

Hello Everyone! My name is Katarina and I am new to the WISH boards. Here's a little about me: I'm a sophomore theatre major at WVU. My main ambition in life is to be a performer in WDW. It's been my dream since I was 2 and saw my first butterfly in Spectromagic. Disney kind of rules my life.... I have auditioned and passed the audition twice, but WDW hasn't had any spots open. (Okay enough of that lol)
I would love to join this group- you all sound so wonderful already! I'm very new to running. Running was always something I dreaded- but recently I have gotten very out of shape. I usually have a dance class that keeps me at my normal level, but it fell through this semester. I need to get healthier again. So I have decided to start on this journey. I've read some really great stories on here and am excited to start.
I am starting with the Couch to 5k program. It looks great- easing into running is going to be great for me.
I really want to do the Everest 5k challenge (if they have it again) this fall and maybe even a 1/2 marathon next year. I'm taking it slow- I know that's how it's gonna be. :goodvibes:
I also have some other good motivation other than getting back in shape: the first time I suggested me running in a 5k or marathon in Disney to my mom, she laughed at me... lovingly, I guess. So I need to prove it to her- and myself. Thanks so much everyone - I'm really excited!

I also have another half marathon coming up in 3 weeks. I have taken the last 2 weeks off from my cardio training to just enjoy being a little more lazy than I was for most of last year. But now it is time to get back to the running. I was going to try to use this as a chance to PR but I have a friend that wants to do the race with me and they want to walk most of it so I don't think a PR will happen.
I guess we will see what happens next, huh??

Thanks Laurie and Debra for your advice.
I was looking at my Marthoning for Mortals book last night and it has most of the training doing a R3/W1, but eventually near the end you work up to R5/W1 for the full. This might be a good plan for me with my knee. I really would like to try to run it the whole way, buy my knee is usually spent by 13 miles so I know I probably wouldn't be able to pull it off. Does anyone know what Galloway does? I might do a R5/W1 next time I go out just to get an idea as to what kind of overall pace that might end up being for me.
Oh, and welcome Katarina! :cheer2:

Hey everyone
Welcome Katarina!!!!!
Sitting here by the computer trying to decide if we should take the plunge and sign up for Goofy 2010. I wish we didn't have to make this decision so soon but know if we don't do it, we will regret it....OK off to register:scared:
Hope everyone had a awesome time at marathon weekend. As always it was a blast to see old friends again and to meet new friends.
Tracy: Hope you had a great day.
Off to get in 4M
Have a great day all!!!!

Hi everyone, I thought I would jump in while the thread count is relatively low.
I plan on doing the Expedition Everest Event and the 2010 1/2 Marathon, it looks like I'll have some good company. :)
For those that don't know I'm a walker, with an occasional jogging spurt thrown in. I've been able to start the New Year off with some good walks and great cross-training but now I'll have a week not being able to work out because of work travel and then a few days helping with a friend recovering from a liver transplant. As soon as I get back home, I'll get right back into my workouts. Looks like it's going to be a great year with the WISH team.:goodvibes

Welcome Katarina!!! We have a lot in common, I danced since I was two but stopped after a car accident, wedding, and having two kids. I auditioned at Disneyland several times, but never made it to the end. So Way to Go You. :) And I like you am new to running, and my family chuckled a little at me too, it will be fun to see how we make out.
Last week I slacked off (still managed two jogs and one walk though), I was on such a role, but with the snow in NC, :confused3 and me being a Cali girl originally I was not going out in that cold. I know, no excuses, so this week I'm going to put on my big girl pants and make it out no matter what:scared: .

Mel: Yay for signing up for the Princess Half. Too bad about CMM, though, as I know you really want to do it. Mel, you know I'm not particularly superstitious, but you just have to try those shoes on. They're made for you!
Jeff: Still, WTG with your 6 milers and your 8 miler today. New season. Train smarter, not harder. (One of my mantras. Not as clever as run to eat, but less caloric.)
Jim: And my double-secret prediction is that you'll have a fine race, regardless of your time! I'll be thinking good thoughts for you for a sub 2.00, though. :thumbsup2
Katarina: Welcome to WISH! Wow! Congrats on passing the audition, and I hope you get a spot soon. That would be so cool to know someone down there--oh, and I'm sure you'd like the experience, too. :goodvibes I'm a graduate of C25K. I highly recommend it because it "forces" you to build your miles slowly and carefully. Do let us know how you progress. And we'll laugh WITH you along the way, lovingly, like your mom! (And feel free to laugh with, or at, me. My attempts to train are always filled with clumsy moments and other hilarity.)
Bryan: Wow, I didn't know you had another 1/2 already! You rock! What's the event?
Shan: Jackie could best speak to the Galloway method. She follows his program and has met the man. I do believe, however, he's a proponent of very short intervals.
SamSam: Oooh, I hear EE is tons of fun (from Jeanne) and of course so is the 1/2! Good company, indeed. :thumbsup2 for being there for your friend during his/her recovery from the liver transplant.
ImMarciK: Good job logging your miles. Are you following the 10% rule for increasing your mileage?
Kim: Congratulations for Going Goofy! You're in esteemed company--me. :rotfl2:
Vic: WTG with your 7 miles!
JPFamilyMom: Big girl pants. :rotfl: Two jogs and a walk doesn't exactly sound like slacking off, though.
As for me: XT today. I tried the stairmaster for the first time in a long time. :crazy2: Gotta love the crackling sounds in my knees. Nope, I'm not old...

Just back from 4 nights at WDW. We stayed at Caribbean beach and I got two OUTSIDE running days in. It was so nice. I know it has been cold in FL but 50 and sunny is great for a run and it was warmer when I finished. I know it is NOT 1.4 miles around the inside loop , you know the one around the lake. I know that I read it was, but it can't be or I have just run a very, very fast mile. I spent my first solo day at the MK-9 hours and didn't get all the things done I wanted to. It was 32 degrees Thursday morning-Dumbo had frost on his ears. I always like to try and ride Dumbo first. Mostly it was a great trip after all that my DH and I have been through this year and it's still January.
Looks like I'll be back on the TM tomorrow.:sad2:
Hope everyones training goes well this week!

Question for the "seasoned" (those with lots of miles in half or full marathons and on the older side like later 30's and up) athletes.
THe last year or so I have had some added issues with my feet.
I would like to do a full marathon, but with the way my feet and toes act up at around mile11 I think I would give up and die at around mile16.
The ball of my right foot just starts to burn and ache badly and I know if I were to keep going past 13.1 miles I would be limping.
This has been my 7th Half Marathon and just recently been haveing this issue. Don't know if it is just my "old" feet or what. I wear thor-lo socks that have a GOOD amount of cushioning. I wear orthotics because I have had PF in both heels at one point or another. I put glide on my heels, balls of the feet and such. Also my toes next to the big toes, the toenails ache alot after I am done. Can't really touch them at all or it kills. Is better the next day. I use little toes socks when I go longer than 9 miles.
I think I need to go see the Podiatrist to help me out with something .
I would like to try a full, but don't want to be doing it and being in pain and not really enjoying the adventure.
Thanks for any help you can provide.

Tracy.
Wrap your feet in bubble wrap, and walk lightly. :rotfl2:
Sounds like your toes are rubbing the inside of the toe box of your shoe.
Days before a long run (i.e. half or full marathon), I'll slather my feet in Bagbalm, and sit in a chair watching tv with plastic bags on my feet. Or slather, and put old socks on my feet and go to sleep. It softens up the skin, and prevent blisters.
On race day, I put moleskin or molefoam on my big toes, and then wrap with Nexcare tape. I then apply Bodyglide, then Bagbalm before putting on my socks and lacing up the shoes.
Now, for toe issues. Possibly get a wider shoe, or go up either a half or full size than what you "normally" wear. Your feet are swelling during your race and workouts.
Roll your arches with a golf ball, whenever sitting watching tv or if working at a desk. Another exercise, take a towel, and scrunch it up under your foot to strengthen the Plantair faciitis tendons.
Also sit in a chair, put your ankle from one leg on your opposite knee. Take one hand and bend back your toes, and take the other hand and massage the PF area.
And finally, freeze water in a used soda bottle. When the PF acts up, roll your foot on the bottle. The curve in the bottle (Coke) is shaped well to your arch.
Hope this helps. Otherwise, take up swimming. :thumbsup2

Oh, and welcome Katarina! :cheer2:
Shan - The Galloway programs vary depending on the pace group. I'm in the 12:00 group, and we do a R2/W1. Faster groups do longer run intervals. (10:00 does R3/W1, 8:00 does R4/W:30) I know that Jeff himself is now doing all his marathons at a R1/W1, and he's still doing good times. One of our group members who used to do R5/W1 recently switched to shorter intervals and found that he improved his time.
Tracy - I don't have a whole lot of advice, just similar problems. I have orthotics due to PF in one foot. I use Injinji toe socks to keep the toes from rubbing, and don't usually have problems under 14 miles. Somewhere around mile 16 I remember telling Debra that my little toe was rubbing my shoe, but it didn't really hurt. By Sunday night though, it was a different story. I finally took a really good look and discovered that I had a huge blister UNDER the toenail. But... I'll probably do it again, just with more Body Glide!
Jeff - Thought of you today while listening to Car Talk on NPR. Woman called in from Honolulu, and they asked her if living in Hawaii was as wonderful as we all thought it was, and she said yes!
Katarina - :welcome: My daughter will be starting college in the fall, and she wants to minor in theatre, with a goal of performing at WDW one day too!
Mel - Love the shoe! :thumbsup2

Hi Wishers!
I did 6.19 miles in 1:40 today. I'm hoping for better next week.
I went on a little shopping spree today too. Got some shorts, socks, undies and a new tee for the race. I'm going to head to the running store this week and find a new belt. My iphone doesn't fit in my current belt. Any suggestions?
I'm having a problem with one of my toes too. I wonder if it is because I recently cut my nails, but that was more than a week ago. I guess I'll also be restocking on mole skin before my long run next week to see if that helps out.
Oh, and I picked up Cliff blocks for next week too. I think I got orange? What flavors does everyone else like?
Have a good week everyone. I need to get some sleep soon (probably shouldn't have had the Java Jolt protien shake at the gym this afternoon).

Tired feet TracyTracy, Jeff gave great advice. I'd also talk with the folks at your running store. They are usually a good resource and may be able to look at how you are striding to help you there. You might want to try slowing down as you get to those longer miles until you can build up some. I've gone with a wider toe box and and half size bigger it has helped me. I always make sure the nails are cut close and wear Injinji toe socks for the longer miles. This last Goofy I had numbing on the 2 outside toes I always have that but it wasn't until later in the trek. Small improvements and I'm glad of that. I've got the max cushioned shoes you can get and wear inserts. That's about all I know to do. WISHing you all you need to get it resolved.

I would like to try a full, but don't want to be doing it and being in pain and not really enjoying the adventure. This sounds very similar to my toe issues. I'd say see your podiatrist.
I went to the pod a couple years ago since my second toes would be very sore and the toenails are extremely thick since I got going with this marathon thing. Basically, my big toes have too much range of motion and can bend back about 90 degrees. They are not supposed to do this! So, my second toes bear the brunt of my weight and the soreness/thick toenails are from the repetition of bearing all that weight during a half marathon. Those toes are not built to handle that.
Now, there is nothing I can do about it. I just deal with it.
I also want to try a full just once, but don't know that my toes could handle it. :sad2:
I was supposed to do 3.1 miles yesterday. I had some serious motivation issues. I finally forced myself to do my Walk Away The Pounds 3 Mile DVD. I should have just wogged the 3 miles - I sweat like crazy doing those WATP DVDs!

Happy Monday (a true oxymoron, if ever there was one!)
First off,:welcome: to all the newbies! Just when I started to learn the "old-bies" names, I have a new crop to add. Hope your training progresses well, and feel free to tell us all about it--the good, the bad and the ugly!
Debra Isn't stairmaster lovely? I just did 20 minutes this morning. When I'm done, I always feel like jello. But at least if the legs are jigglin' it takes my mind off my flabby midriff jigglin' !
Jeff Does your foot prep procedure come with a set of instructions and home video? Wow!
I am working right now--can't you tell? Did my stairmaster/weights this morning after doing a really nice 5-miler yesterday. All indoors, unfortunately. The roads are 80% clear--but that 20% will get me every time, and I'm supposed to be running specific paces which I am incapable of doing unless on a treadmill it seems.
Sigh....any cheap airfares out there from Detroit to someplace sunny? I already need a break.:beach:

Thanks Jackie. That is very interesting! Is there a book of his you would recommend? He has groups that run in Atlanta. I've looked into it before and the times never worked for me, plus it is a little of a drive to the closest group.
Regardless, it looks like I'm out for both Marathon Weekend and TOT as of right now. We are definitely taking the kids for NYE so it will be hard to get back a week later. Made the definite decision last night. As for TOT DH doesn't want to leave the kids at home again, but if we take them we'd have to pull them out of school AND take someone to watch them during the race. We're totally borrowed out on our DVC points so we'd have to pay for a room for them, not to mention the person we would probably normally take is now watching my nephew everyday... So it doesn't look good. I'm not giving up hope completely, though. There is always a possible AP discount on a value or mod, right?!?
Anyway, it kinda has me in a dampened mood. I have no Disney races to look forward to! :sad1: The motivation is gonna be very hard this year. I guess I'll look to my first full in 2011. Local races just aren't the same, ya know?

Good Morning Folks!
SamSam - your description of your walking sounds exactly like me - walking with short spurts of jogging!
Jeff - I thought bag balm was a Wyoming thing! I haven't heard anyone talk about it for years, but the bag balm on the feet with old socks to sleep in was something we all used to do when I first moved here!

Hello Wishers! Saying hello for the first time.
I recently just registered for my first 5k in May here in the Chicagoland area. My ultimate goal would be to do the half marathon in January 2010 in Disney. I have not done anything athletic since grade school. My motivation is a friend who runs who is doing the Chicago marathon for the first time this year. I am going to be his "grasshopper" as he teaches me :goodvibes I also am getting married in June and would really like to have some goal to work for as I exercise to look good for my pictures!
I have a YMCA membership, so I am just going to use the elliptical machines until it gets a little warmer out. I currently can go about 20 minutes on that before I just want to quit, so I think I'll build up a little endurance before I actually start running.
Oh, I also got an ipod shuffle, so I must be serious! ::yes::

Hi everyone. :wave2:
I am pretty proud of myself, I did 3.1 miles on the TM this morning in 42 minutes. And I didn't die either! Actually, it was really good. So I have to keep that up until my 5k at the end of next month.
I have a question. How many of you use Ipods when you run? I have always used one to work out in the past - but I went to charge it two weeks ago and somehow managed to delete my entire collection of songs. So I have now been working out without it and just listening to the piped in music in the gym or thinking about stuff - and I don't mind it. It actually think I might like it better to clear my head.
lenshanem - sorry you won't be able to make it to the Disney races this year. I hope a good rate comes through and you can somehow manage it.

Hey team!!! I am injured! I tripped last night and sprained my big toe. It's a bummer, but is already feeling better. I will give it a couple of days.
I am also an interval girl. I find it is so much easier on my breathing because I have asthma. I have ran 4 miles straight, but I am faster with intervals (well not this past year as I had a bad bad year!!)
Mel - You are so cool. I would try them on just to see what they are like (even if they are from "that" company!)
zalansky - Way to go on the TM!!!!
Tracy - I get numbness in my toes, but it usually goes away after a mile. I have PF also, but I don't think my numbness is related.
OK... gotta go...

Joan: So glad you enjoyed your trip to WDW and your outside running. I'm one to vote for the PD pixiedust: allowing you to run an extraordinarily fast mile, but if you want to be modest I understand. ;)
I also find my blisters are somewhat more severe if I walk long distances. Would you consider WR a marathon?
Racey Tracy: I really have so little to add to everyone else's wisdom. I experience some very mild versions of what you describe, and so I can say these things. I second the recommendation to see a podiatrist. Aloha Jeff's suggestions on the Bag Balm...:thumbsup2 (although I've been using Vaseline and will shift to Bag Balm now that he's reminded me of it). About sizing up...I find that I need a full size up in NB and it's still a little tight on hot days. I learned this after consulting with my running store experts, as Lily suggested.
Aloha Jeff: Hadn't heard about the Coke bottle. Thanks!
Jackie: I didn't know how bad your blister was. Under your toenail?? That sounds extraordinarily painful. But... I'll probably do it again, just with more Body Glide! Does this mean you're considering the full? :goodvibes
ImMarciK: The 10% means that you generally don't increase your mileage (or road time, depending on your running goals) more than 10% any given week. It's a good rule of thumb to prevent injury. Yay for your Forerunner. DOOD and I are still waiting for that promised Mac support for the 405.
Megan: Congrats on the shopping. I'm not a huge fan of the shot blocks, but I think Black Cherry blocks aren't bad. No concrete suggestions on the belt, but I wonder if Fuel Belt doesn't have a pocket that would work. I know they come in small, medium and large.
Kristi: Wow--90 degrees? I can't even imagine. Brava to you for doing endurance events! Thanks for explaining the thick toenails. That's happened to my big toenail in 2008 and I never thought much of it. Your explanation helps!
Maura: I need to take your approach to the stairmaster. Yes, it does distract me from other things, including my never-going-to-be-ready-for-a piercing-tummy. :lmao: Oooh, congrats on having pacing goals. Far better than the "don't slip on the ice" goals I'm having as I conquer my weather wimp status. Do you have an upcoming event? I forget.
Shan: I'm sorry to hear that your TOT or Marathon weekend might not happen. I'll keep sending good thoughts and PD, though. The races won't fill for a while, especially TOT. And we all know what you mean about Disney events being motivating! ::yes::
Lynn: Another person familiar with Bag Balm here. Ashamed to say I never thought about it for running, as I know it works wonders on scars and dry skin.
Katarina: Congratulations on your first day of C25K! You're doing great, and we expect to get regular updates!
PrincessShea: Welcome, Grasshopper! :goodvibes Yay for getting married and making fitness goals associated with one of the most memorable days of your life. :cheer2: The gym membership plus a shuffle will help you work toward the 1/2, I'm sure. I like the elliptical for general, no-impact cardio; I used it a lot when I was healing from an injury. I mixed it in with short TM WOs. Let us know how your training progresses.
Zalansky: Congrats on your rocking 5K time. You're doing very well indeed! (Not to mention that your not dying is a plus, too.) I think you're very strong not to use an iPod for your TM runs; I can't stand the music at my gym. Not to mention all the social talkers who congregate around the TMs. (Now if there were good conversations to eavesdrop on, that would be a different story....)
Jen: I'm so sorry to hear about your sprained toe. Very painful. I hope you have an interesting, slightly indecent, story to go along with the injury. Not that it makes your toe hurt less, but we'll enjoy it more.
As for me: More XT today. Tomorrow is supposed to be chilly for my run, but my slightly OCD self can't seem to deviate from my "non-training, just in maintenance running while I lose weight" plan. Something is seriously wrong with my priorities.

Mel – Hope you’re feeling better. That’s great that you’re going to get to go to the Princess Half! And how cool is that shoe? Are you going to get a pair?
Jim – Good luck on your half!
Katarina – :welcome: C25K is a great program. Congrats on completing your first day!
Bryan – Good luck on your half!
Kim – You’re going Goofy! That rocks!
JPFamilyMom – Snow would totally stop me. I’m such a cold weather wimp! Luckily, we don’t get too cold down here.
Megan – Great job on the 6+ miles. And yay for new running clothes! I have no idea on the belt.
Kristi – The WATP DVDs are hard work!
Shan – So sorry that you won’t be able to make TOT or Marathon weekend! That’s a huge bummer! :(
PrincessShea – :welcome: Congrats on your engagement and good luck with your training!
Zalansky – Congrats on the 3.1 (and not dying!). I’m impressed that you haven’t been using the Ipod on the TM – I don’t usually use one outdoors, but I NEED it on the TM.
Jen – Oh, no! Hope your toe feels better soon! :wizard:
ImMarcik – Yay for a new gadget!
Debra - You're going Goofy in 2010? Cool! Good job on getting your XT in. Some day, maybe I'll actually be better about doing that myself!
Me - Eh. Was planning on running with the baby today, but it was all foggy and drizzly all day long, and I didn't want to get caught in the middle of a rainstorm with him, so I canned it. Still debating on whether to just TM it tonight or try again tomorrow.

Happy Monday Boys & Girls !!!
The hole in my foot has pretty much closed, so (with the aid of a lidocaine patch & a soft bandage) I put in a few miles today.
I woke up at work this a.m. to see really thick fog, so I had to wait until about 11:30 to actually go.
I am trying to mix my workouts up some to try to get a bit faster (intervals, "hills" & some bike mostly). Down here in the sunny south we are "topographically challenged", so any hills climbed have to be of the man-made variety. So this is where I went today:
http://im1.shutterfly.com/media/47b9df07b3127ccec661636bd4ad00000040O01EcuWzdyxYg9 vPg4/cC/f%3D0/ps%3D50/r%3D0/rx%3D550/ry%3D400/
Climbing the bridge was the not so fun part. The roadway is about 85' above the water, but the nice part was at the top with a really great view:
http://im1.shutterfly.com/media/47b9df07b3127ccec661622b947500000040O01EcuWzdyxYg9 vPg4/cC/f%3D0/ps%3D50/r%3D0/rx%3D550/ry%3D400/
I did 4 "crossings" with a total distance of about 6.4 in an hour even.

Hey Everybody! I wanted to stop by the weekly thread and see how everyone is doing! I took two weeks off after the Goofy to recover and today was my first day back at the gym and it felt great!!!!
Mel--that is funny that the shoes are named that! I agree that you need to get a pair for yourself!!
Kristi--Hope you are finding that motivation to get back at it again! I have been feeling the same way since the Goofy, but over the weekend I found a new training plan to start today and I was psyched to work out today! Maybe find a training plan to follow.
Maura--LOL about needing a break! We may get snow tomorrow and wednesday and I am already hoping for a snow day!!!
Shan--As I said on the super goofs thread, sorry to hear about marathon weekend next year, hang in there!
belladisneydancr and princessshea--Welcome to the team!! Everyone here is great, you will love it!!!
PrincessShea-Congrats on your upcoming wedding! I am also getting married this summer, and that is one of my main motivations for working out these days!!
zalansky-I used to always use my ipod when I ran, but lately, I haven't used it and I like it more. When I run outside on the trail, I love to just take everything in and think, it is a great way to clear my mind!
Jen--Hope the toe is feeling better soon! As I might say to one of my students when the say their toe hurts: Can I call you a "toe" truck? The kids think it is hilarious and the toe pain goes away!!
AFM--I hit the gym today for the first time since the Goofy! I started my training plan for my half marathon which is in 14 weeks. My goal for this half is to break 2 hours. I will need to work on my speed to do this, but I am up for the challenge and I am determined to do it!! For my first workout I had 3 miles on tap and I finished in 29:30..which is FAST for me. Usually I keep about a 11:30-12 min pace, so I was super excited about this today!
Sorry to anyone I missed, but it is time to watch the Bachelor!!!

Thank you so much to everyone for the welcomes! :goodvibes I'm so happy to be part of the group.
Well, after poking around these boards all afternoon I became paranoid about the 2010 Half marathon filling up before I committed, so I just registered! That's about a year to prepare! I am not off to find some fun things to put in my signature for it.

OK, I registered for the WDW Half Marathon - which I know I can do, and will fill up quickly after the Goofy. I will decide about the full later on. If I decide on the Full, I'll give someone else the Half.
Later as no nothing for me the rest of the week. Need to rest the feet and I have an appointment with the Podiatrist on Thursday. Thanks to everyone who gave me their thoughts on helping out the feet issues!!:thumbsup2

ALOHA JEFF - BIG THANKS for sending me the WDW Half marathon pin which I will proudly wear for the next two weeks or so. Also thanks for the CD with the photos!!! Oh and the emails!!!!! YOU ARE REAL!! hehe.

Hey WISHers! Tonight was my first time back on the running (cardio) wagon since I got back. I didn't want to push to hard and injure myself since I have a half coming up in a few weeks so I kept it to 5 miles. Felt pretty good. No issues whatsoever so I am going to try for another 5 tomorrow when I get off work.
Tracy, I hope you have a good report from the podiatrist or at least news that will help you. I am glad you have already registered for the half. I will be doing so in the next few weeks as well.
Hope everyone is having a great week!!

I made it to the running store tonight and they are going to order a medium and a large pocket for me, probably a fuel belt just like you said Dee. I'm not certain on the brand though. I also got to check out the Timex Ironman watches. I may get one of those when I get my next paycheck. I'll need to look at what is a good price for it though.
Jim-that looks like a tough climb. Do you run around Flagler College? I wanted to go there after the first time I visited the area. Alas, I ended up staying in the north.

Welcome to all our new Wishers out there.
Keep an eye out for the new Team Miles and Hours thread. It's good fun.
Got in 4 miles last night on the treadmill and 7 outside the day before. No activity today so it will be nice to hang out with the kiddo's.
Have a great Tuesday everyone!

Good Morning folks!
It has been cold here - could only stand it outside for about a half an hour, so just did a quick walk with the dogs, did get in a good leg workout for the knees though!
It is below 0 out now (8 below), but should warm up more than yesterday, so there is hope for a longer walk today.
To those with numb toes, for me, that is the first sign that my neuromas are starting to act up again!
Have a great day everyone!

Welcoem to all teh new WIshers!!
Hi! to all the WIshers who arent' new!
Takes so long for me to catch up here after my week at WDW for marathon, so forgive me for not doing a lot o fshout outs.
Tracy - You have gotten some good advie. Burjning feet only happen to me when my shoes are worn out. I had Mizunos dfdo that. Never had it with my ASICs. I agree on larger toe box. My 2nd toes do better if I tape them. ALso,may want to look at inserts just for alittle extra cushion.
Mel - Awesoem shoes! You MUST try them!
Good to see everyone! I did 30 min swim and 60 min yoga last night. Really think my swim is improving. Yay!!!

I just wanted to say on a day like today that I am glad I found this area of the dis. I have been on the dis for years and it took me this long to venture here. I am so excited about my first race in April but I am also very overwhelmed, (i will be doing this alone for ME). So, I am just glad I have found somewhere to find support.
Yesterday was strength training. Today I run.

Lunch time check-in....
PrincessShea Glad you signed up for the half--it is kinda scary, isn't it, when you haven't run any races yet to know whether you can do it. But you can. I did the same thing last year--signed up for the '09 half. Non-runner, starting from scratch, and I would guess I have a couple or more decades on you. And it went well--not without a few setbacks here and there, but hey, that's to be expected. So good luck.
Zalansky WTG on the 3 miles. It's neat to see new people happy about reaching new goals. Makes me feel happy, too to remember those "firsts".
Jen Hope your toe heals quickly.
ImMarcik Doing something "alone for ME" is the best way to do it. You will do great and have real satisfaction of achieving something that you, an you alone, put in the work for.
Debra I am trying to do a "fast" 5 or 10k this spring (26 min/52 min). Maybe in April, although if I could get cheap airfare I would fly to Florida and run the 5k on Princess weekend. And BTW, where is this weight you are planning to lose--you obviously don't carry it around with you!
JimB You are killing me with the pics....I want warm weather!
Laurie Sub-2:00 for you half. That would be fantastic! I had no plans for my half--but just missed that mark by a little over a minute. So now, of course, my brain says "well--maybe find another one to try".
Tracy Hope you get foot-relief soon. Seems like we all have some sort of foot problem to deal with.
Bryan Hi! Sounds like your 5-miler was good. Glad to hear it went well.
Carrie Kudos for getting in the pool. I am holding off til February,, which is, unfortunately, right around the corner. I think it's just because the pool is actually busier at 5:30 am than it is at other times and I am put off by some of the "serious" swimmers (You know, the kind who don't seem to take kindly to novices)
I had my Tuesday speed work session this am. 5x800 at 7:54 pace with some rest intervals (on the TM). Went pretty well once I reminded myself that this really is a mental game.
Tea time!

Thank you so much. I really appreciate the encouragement. :goodvibes I am definitely not going to go in cold; I plan to do smaller races before the 1/2, obviously. I am confident I will finish, my goal will be to run or least jog, the entire time. I just wish it were warmer out. The treadmill is so boring and I feel self conscious since pretty much no one else runs on it at the YMCA I go to.
Does everybody else go out during the cold? How cold is too cold? Any dangers running below freezing, aside from slipping and killing yourself on the ice? :sad2:

ImMarcik - Glad your are getting frm WISH what most of us have! :goodvibes I truely believe that WISH gave me teh courage to start. They have kept me going too!!!
Maura - FNT seems to have some of the best fares int eh state these days. May want to check them out. I swim in the pm wher ehtere are more novices. Not so bad. I really don't feel like anyone but the life guard watches. I'm sure she must cringe when she ssees us in teh pool, though. :rotfl:
PrincessShea - Our basic rule is not to go out when it is less than 20 degrees. We have gone a little below that this year, but suually only when we knew it shoudl be warming up closer to 20 soon. Yak Trax help with teh slippery aspects. It's good to have somethign to cover your face. Besides that, just be ware taht the extra layers and just being in teh cold air will slow you donn. DOn't let cold weather runs make you think your pace is not up to snuff.

01-27-2009, 01:43 PM
PrincessShea - I'm also in Chicago and can tell you outside training has severely suffered this year. Too much ice and cold. I won't go out if it's below 20 or if wind chill is below 10. Did once when it was sunny but it was 5 with the wind and came back after about 10 min. Even with face covered it was just too cold. Layer, layer, layer. Like Carrie said, if you have to bundle it does slow me down and I just get in distance and not worry about time.

Hey Boys & Girls!
I WAS going to do a bike/run doubleheader today. I was on a nice ride out in BFE (just me & the cabbage fields :thumbsup2 ), but on my way back into town the temperature dropped about 10 degrees which caused really THICK fog to roll in off of the river & ocean.
Since the area I live in is not very "runner friendly" as far as the roads go, I took this as a sign to pack it in for the day.
So my end result was 35.1 miles in 2 hours even on the bike. Kinda' slow, but this is only my 3rd time on the road since TBBW, so it's ok.
You guys ALL rock. And I am SOOOO glad that I do not have to deal with the cold like some of you do. You guys are TOUGH!
PrincessShea
01-27-2009, 04:03 PM
PrincessShea - I'm also in Chicago...
Yea, a Chicagoan, holla! :cool2:
No I totally agree the cold is too insane. Remember those really horrible couple days a few weeks ago when the wind chill was like -30? When I walked outside I could feel the hairs in my nose icicle-ing up :sad2: I think I'll wait until it's at least above freezing.
Today was the first time I've ever used a treadmill. It was weird. Afterwords I felt my body still propelling forward even though I had stopped. It reminded me of my high school days when I would go to Six Flags a lot, and at night I still felt like I was looping through a roller coaster.
But hey, I ran 2 miles (ok, well actually ran/power-walked) so I feel accomplished today!

:welcome: PrincessShea! I did my first 5K at Disney in May of 2006. This is contagious - watch out! :rotfl:
Zalansky - I use the ipod when I'm on the TM if there's nothing else. Mine's in the living room with the TV, so I prefer to catch up on shows in the DVR. But if I'm running early in the AM, I use music so I don't wake everyone up! :ssst:
Jen - pixiedust: for the toe!
Debra - :rolleyes1 As for the full, it all depends on the budget. If Annie gets this scholarship, we'll be there; if not, well... that tuition check may bump Disney off the calendar for 2010 and force us to run locally! But yeah, I know I said never again...
And I had no idea the blister was there until Sunday night after we'd walked around MK for a couple of hours. I finally got desperate and started poking around and realized there was a reason the toe hurt so bad!
Laurie - Great job on your 3 miles! And good luck on going sub-2:00. Never in my wildest dreams will that happen in my world!
Bryan - I had to laugh. "I didn't want to push to hard... so I kept it to 5 miles." Isn't it wonderful that 5 miles seems like an easy day? :thumbsup2
Lynn - You're a much better person than I am. I have a minimum of around 30 degrees - sounds like I'd be inside the entire winter there! We're actually supposed to hit 66 tomorrow, but by Saturday's LR day we'll be back to 38.
Carrie - Great job on the XT. I've got to get back into a routine. I was lazy even before marathon weekend, and I've been a complete slug until today.
ImMarcik - The support here is amazing. Most of my "local" friends - even in my running group - just don't get it, but neither do they offer half the support that this group has. I would absolutely not still be doing this, nor have just finished a full marathon, if it weren't for this group.
Maura - You are amazing! :worship: 7:54? You'll be starting with the elite runners next year at this rate! :rotfl2:
AFM: I ran tonight! Did 3.5 miles on the TM, not particularly fast, but I did throw in a couple of speedier minutes now and then. Just wanted to remind the legs that we run. And the first 10 minutes were slower than usual - this is the first time the puppies have seen the TM in use, and I was so busy laughing at them that I could hardly stay upright. I wish we'd had the video camera nearby... Sienna kept getting on and falling off, and Apollo just stood beside it so that every time my leg came down I kicked him in the snout. (I keep telling everyone that he's not very bright...) :sad2: I'm hoping that the novelty wears off soon, or it will be a long winter...

My son has been playing basketball with blisters on the balls of his feet. They had gotten hard and crusty, then developed into blood blisters. Well now, the skin around the blisters has split, and his socks had blood on them tonight.
I didn't realize that they were so bad until tonight. What should I do?
He has another game Sat. night. He wears cotton socks, so I know we should probably change to a wicking type sock. Any suggestions?
He says he gets blisters any time he wears shoes (no matter what kind) and does any kind of physical activity. The blisters are the size of a quarter to half dollar.
Please help!!!:flower3:

Just wanted to say hi. I'm still pretty new to these boards.
It's nice to see quite a few others from Chi-town. I don't run outside if it's below freezing (including windchill) so I'm stuck running on the treadmill or at an indoor track for the foreseeable future...
Did 4 miles tonight on the TM. It is so hard to get motivated to run indoors unless I am training for something.

Hey everyone! Wow, there are a lot of posts today. Unfortunately, no miles for me due to work issues and then a meeting I had to attend as soon as I got off that ran kind of late. I am planning on doing 7-9 tomorrow, if I can get out of work on time.
Maura The run went very well yesterday. I was so looking forward to doing another 5 today and then work hit:scared: . (By the way, I don't think I ever said how great it was to meet you at WDW. I am glas you had a safe trip home.)

Hi Everyone! Welcome to all the new WISHERS!
I don't have much to report. Since getting back from Arizona, I've been taking it easy on the training front and trying to get caught up at work and home. It's all those little things that need to be done that can take forever and make me :crazy2: .
I'm going on an overnighter to NY next week to see The Little Mermaid and Mary Poppins. I'll get back to training after that trip.
Jeff - a question for you. Have you ever done the Maui half marathon? The one in September in Kaanapali, not the Jan. one. I'm thinking of coming to HI to do that one this year. Was just wondering if it was organized well.

Terri, never done that race on Maui. I looked at the course map, and it goes right through the tourist town of Lahaina, out and back. Some small hills, nothing extreme. Bring your camera, because you will see the ocean a lot.
Expect heat, so you may want to carry a waistpack with a bottle holder. Bring either a Gatorade or Powerade, or water. A few bucks will be good, in case you need to stop in a ABC convenience store on Front Street for a drink or food.

Good Morning Folks!
Jackie – you would not be house bound all winter here, we do have days above 30 degrees, in fact, this weekend we should be above 40 degrees!
Bryan – if you want others than on the thread that Tracy mentioned, I just find the ones I want on others posts, then take them from there.
It has warmed up here, but the wind is back! The driveway is now clear of snow, but the walks that I shoveled the other day are now hidden again! This morning I had to shovel a path to the bird feeder to fill it.
Have a great day everyone!

Hi There Everyone!
Thought I would jump in and say hello! I was at the full this year but did not meet up with any WISHers unfortunately.Next year I am registered for the 1/2 and 5k.So hope to meet some of you then.
I will be doing other races in between but not sure of all of them yet.A local 1/2 here in April and the Applefest again in October.
I am changing my focus right now and need to lose a few lbs. before any races. So I will be posting based on that until the weather changes around here.

Jumping in to update -
My one son is now at another hospital closer to home for treatment - it may take a few weeks to get him healthy - so I'm driving him the 45 min there and back each day! I'm thinking I can do a mall walking at Woodfield Mall and begin my training!
My other son is now a married man - and I'm now a mother-in-law! I'll post pics as soon as I have time to upload, or the wedding photographer gives us a website!
Again, my sincerest thanks to the WISH team for being here and offering up support and prayers in helping us get thru to a "finish line" when we were so far from home!!
Continued thoughts and prayers that all goes well, and we can plan, and pay for our 2010 Marathon! DH is signed up for the Goofy, we need an outlet to focus on ourselves, and what better avenue for health than training for a marathon in our "happy place" with the bestest teammates!! THANK YOU ALL so very much!

Hello everyone!
Reporting from wet, rainy, cold WV... thank goodness we have an indoor track. I did my 2nd day of C25K today and it was great! I felt much better and comfortable with it today. Didn't get truly winded once. My right shin decided to rebel and hurt a little, but it felt better after a little while. I'm really excited to keep going!
Hope everyone has a good day!! :goodvibes

Today was another long day at work but I refused to miss 2 days in a row at the gym so I went. While I was there, I saw a guy that I used to go to school with. He was stunned. I love it when people tell me that I am in better shape now than I was in then. It just helps me realize that I have come a long way. (Also reminds me where I was and that I don't want to go back.)
Anyway, I was able to get in a pretty easy 5 miles and a good shoulder workout. I am hoping to get there earlier tomorrow so I can go harder.
Lynn - Thanks for the suggestion!!
Happy Training!!

Good Morning Wishers!
Yesterday was weight training, got in a good leg workout, then a Pilates tape, add some snow shoveling, and finally, a short dog walk - it was really miserable outside, the wind had not stopped blowing as forecast, but the dogs loved it!
Today should be a walk, will see how wind is today.
Have a great day everyone!

Here I sit and read, nodding at all of Jeff's good advice until.....
Hope this helps. Otherwise, take up swimming. :thumbsup2

Note to self... pack a sharpie so Mel can sign my race shirt :thumbsup2 You know you are going to get teased horribly by us. :rotfl2: You have to post if you try the shoes out and let us know. I only ask that you make it a separate thread so that I have a chance to SEE it and read about it. :) For me Brooks would have to come out with a style named TURTLE :crazy2:
Jen and Tracy :grouphug: on your feet. But on a side note it was sooo lovely to be with you both during the race :grouphug:
Allie's son's blister problem? I can't help but was afraid it might have gotten lost in the conversaton. Her post is # 54 on page 4. Allie in case you didn't see Jeff's suggestion to Tracy about taking up swimming...err I mean her foot issue his post is # 21 on page 2. Allie I hope you find a solution for him
My training stinks! I hit the gym twice last week and once so far this week. Today I planned on going but my head is about to explode, correction it did when I fell down laughing over the 'take up swimmng' comment. *shaking my head at the silliness* I was cleaning snow off my car last night and was so desparate to be outside that I all about dusted every snowflake off. I was having crazy thoughts like this temp really isn't bad. I think I am about to jump off the deep end and head outside this weekend.
Oh JIM!!! I loved the photos and think you are very brave! I would have been in the fetal position crying for someone to save me from the height LOL 85' YIKES!
Back to the current temps that I and my in-state team members are facing along with those poor souls in OH and IL .... I say we move this party to JEFF'S!!!!!!!! :beach:

I want to make an announcement......
After my 7th Half Marathon in 2 years I will be losing my first toenail!!!!! Yeah me!!!!:scared: I saw the podiatrist today. Basically because of the anatomy of my 2nd toe when I am standing and walking it tends to grab or grip. So the tip of the toe rubs. I had a nice little blister that is on the tip of the toe near the toenail edge and runs under the toenail. He worked on the dead skin and "popped" the blister and it felt better. He then told me that I would loose the toenail. Nice. Can't wait for that to happen, I guess it's just a wait and see kinda thing. YUK!!!
The burning I get in the ball of my right foot is a pinching of the nerves. BIg toe on right foot that I had surgery on 2 years ago is getting a bit worse and is stiffening up a bit. He told me in a year or so would have to do something for it, but wouldn't keep me from waling or jogging. - YEAH!
Had my orthotic modified for the right big toe's lose of motion.
Went to the runner's store, Runner's Depot and had them treat me as if I was new - checked my foot size, had me walk up and down the isle to check my gait, tried some shoes, used the treadmill, put my orthotics in the shoes. I now have a pair of Asics 2140s. They told me I was dropping my midfoot and the shoes plus orthotic would help.
Dr. told me to watch my length of stride. Some of the toe rubbing and gripping would be worse if I was lengthing my stride and the pinching of the nerves. I think I may have been trying to do that towards the end of this last Half Marathon as I was trying to get my sub3 hours.
OK, High today will be 83 and Partly Sunny. Tomorrow around noon we are getting showers, coming from all you peeps up North and a high of 72. When I get up Saturday morning to walk around 7am to walk it will be 47!!!!!!!!!!!! HIgh on Sat will be 67. Don't you just love the crazy South Florida weather!!!
Have a great and safe Thursday!

Been a couple of days since I posted. I'm feeling ill and I have absolutely nothing exercise-wise to report. Except this: For those of you who are new to this side of the DIS boards and don't know, we're gearing up for the Team Miles and Hours Challenge. It's a friendly little "competition" where we join smaller teams and log our exercise for the next 11 months (Feb-December). Mostly, it's a way to get to know other WISHers. If you'd like to join a team, post to this link. (http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=2071892)
Now, back to your regularly scheduled weekly thread...
Ang: Actually, I'm going Dopey. DOOD just sent in the registration for the 5Ks. How do I let myself get talked into these things? :rotfl: I can't imagine trying to plan my running around both how the weather might affect me AND my child. That's got to be tough. I mean, you might be willing to run in the rain by yourself, but it's another thing to take DS out....
Jim: Topographically challenged! :rotfl2: Good for you in getting your hill work--at least the view is stunning. And I'm constantly impressed with your biking times/distances, even if you're not.
Laurie: Sweet monkey sundae, that was a fast time, and coming back from your recovery from the Goofy, too! :thumbsup2 You should be excited. I think this bodes well for your sub-2.00 half!
PrincessShea/Katie: Yay for signing up for the 1/2! You, like the rest of us, ought to be committed! :upsidedow I know what you mean about being self-conscious on the TM. If it's of any help, you do get over that. Congrats on getting on the belt!
I try to run outside 2/3 of the time these days (everyone here knows that's a big change for me, since I'm a weather wimp). As you suggest, my primary concern is ice, esp. since Pgh is so hilly. If the roads are clear, I'll run in temps above zero, although the time I spend outside will vary with temp. As Carrie and Liz said, if it's good weather (20+) I just focus on distance and not pace.
Racey Tracy: Yay for signing up for the 1/2. It sounds as if your visits to the Podiatrist and shoe store have given you some answers. How are you feeling about the long-term diagnosis, etc.? Oh, and ewww on the toenail. Although that does put you in the inner circle of hard-core warriors. ;) P.S. That's a pretty princess medal!
Bryan: Good job on the five miles and the upcoming 7-9. I can't believe you have another half coming up so soon. That's dedication! It's so cool that you received that compliment from the guy you used to go to school with. Speaking of shoulder WOs, did you give yourself a pat on the back! :goodvibes
Megan: Did the pockets come yet? And did you get a Timex IM watch? Curious gearheads want to know!
Chris: I bet hanging out with the kids is its own WO! Side note: do your kids do races, too?
Lynn: Sounds much too cold to do much of an outdoor WO in your neck of the woods. Do you try to go outdoors all year round? I think your weather would deter me.
Carrie: Do you tape your toes on every fun? Just LRs? Or start at a certain distance?
ImMarciK: Racing for YOU is the best reason there is. You're worth it. :goodvibes And balancing out the running/nutrition-fueling is tricky, isn't it? Good luck on tonight's run.
Maura: Man oh man, you're working on SPEED. I can totally see you making that goal--your stride looked really smooth on the 1/2. And I believe you can win the mental game, too. Have you found the elusive cheap airfare for the Princess 5K yet? Oh, and thanks for nice words about my weight--but that's why I wear oversized bowling shirts. That, and so people think I'm Tony Soprano. ;)
Jackie: Crossing my fingers for a scholarship, for Annie's sake as well as your racing schedule. Blisters are really the one thing that might make me keep to halfs, and yours sounds particularly nasty. :crazy2: Have the puppies adjusted to the TM?
Allie: Can your DS avoid playing BB until his blisters heal? Probably not.... He probably should use antibiotics on his feet if he's going to continue to play with blisters. :confused3 I like double-layer socks (I use Wright) for blisters. Jeff had some great suggestions earlier in the thread--did you read those?
MilleniumMickey: Welcome to the boards! :cheer2: You'll find us a friendly, chatty group. And congrats on your 4 miles.
Terri: Have fun in NY!
Aloha Jeff: I think you're ALWAYS up to speed. :goodvibes
Linda: Jump right in--the water's fine! :thumbsup2 Yay for doing both the 1/2 and the 5K. Twice as much bling!
Shan: What races are you thinking of signing up for?
Sandy: Good news about your oldest! I'm looking forward to seeing pics. How is your other DS doing? Continued PD for his recovery and your marathon weekend plans. :flower3:
bellaDisneydncr: Congrats on your continued success with C25K! Are you warming up and cooling down after your C25K? And stretching? That might help you with your shin.
SamSam: Sounds like good weather in Kansas! How did your 5 miler go?
Diane: If your shoes would be called Turtle, mine would be called Slug. Because that's what I've been. I hear you on the challenges of getting in WOs recently. I think cleaning off snow can count as cardio, though. :thumbsup2

Tracy - I lost a toenail once after dropping a Scuba weight on it, doc said it would not grow back, but it did, a little funky now, but I still have a toenail!
Debra - Yes, I try to get outside almost every day, I have 2 malamutes that think I was put on earth to walk them! Some days we do not get very far, but we do get out. Right now it is my knee not the weather that is cutting short our walks. Wind was not too bad today, but knee was killing me, so only made it 4 miles (I was trying for 6).

Tracy - sounds like you are on track with your feet. I lost my BIG toenail a couple of weeks ago. Losing my toenail actually started months ago when I wore a pair of socks that had too much bulk (for me) in the toe area. After one long walk (9 miles) wearing them for the first time, I knew I was in trouble. A good learning experience for me.
My 5 mile walk/run yesterday turned into 4 because I'm a woos. By the time I made it out the door, the sun was blanketed by clouds and the wind was blowing. It was a good 4 miles though. Today was treadmill and cross training classes. Tomorrow it is supposed to be 60 and sunny (that's unreal for this time of year), so I will definitely be wogging outside. :)

I am getting so sick of the cold/gray/snow/unicolor days (sky--gray, snow-gray, etc--gray) that I found myself smelling my "tropical paradise" deodorant this morning just for a little boost!:rotfl:

Okay, back now. Today is a needed rest day for me. Training (for that ever popular "TBD" event) was good this week, but yesterday took all my mental mojo to keep it going.
Tracy RIP for your toenail. I haven't lost one---yet.
Debra I can't imagine running outdoors in Pittsburgh during winter. I keep picturing this hill that I went up and over this past Thanksgiving on the way to the Dormont Diner (from Diners, Drive-Ins, & Dives). How anyone would drive down the hill to the BIG intersection at the bottom in the snow and ice? :scared1:

Toying with the idea of the VA Beach Half on Labor Day...
I lost a toenail when I trained for my first half. This second time I didn't lose one, matter of fact never had any issues with blisters or anything.
Trying to get motivated to go out. I'm just not a cold weather person. I need to get by behind moving, though cause it is early release day for the kids. I'll post back if I make it out!

Good morning all!
I have a training question.
My next half is Febuary 14th. Got the email from Galloway today saying we are doing 14 miles Saturday. Personally I think that's too close to the half for me. What are your thoughts? I wish it was more like 9 or something.. just not sure what to do.
So far I have been lucky and get to keep all my toe nails! I have a wide foot at the ball area so I have always had to get shoes with pretty wide toe boxes. That could be why.
Was in a WARM location earlier this week and did 5.2 miles and last night did 2.5 miles on the treadmill.

Carol - When our Galloway group does anything over 10 miles, we always come back to our base location at 10. That way people have the option of doing different distances. Any chance yours does the same? If so, you could just do 10 this weekend. Or you could come to Raleigh tomorrow and do 10 with us... but that would probably be just as tiring as staying home and doing 14!

Yes, they have us doing a 14 miler. The current group is very small and has just a couple of intervals. I know theres a 2/1 and a 3/1... The group I was with last was bigger and has LOTS of groups. They have started up in training for CMM and I will proably swap back to them.
I fly out late Sunday so I should miss the SNOW! Back to Southern California.

Turns out we have an "out at 8" option which I am going to take. I think two weeks is too close to the race for 14 miles. This group is suppose to be gearing up for the same half I am running, but most of them are younger so I guess they recover faster!

You know I don't know where we are "based" but it doesn't seem like Sandy Springs. Saturday we are in Decauter.
I am in the half group. But I know there is a full group. They are building towards the Breast Cancer race that's the middle of Febuary so it wasn't perfect for Disney, but since I transferred from the "fall" race group it was a good way to stay in training.

Good morning!
Duckie I hope you feel better.
I missed my run this morning. For some reason I had it in my head for 7:30 so I got up at 6:30 and started piddling around. At 7 I picked up the car keys and the address for the start and realized... IT STARTED AT 7. So I went back to bed LOL!
Probably good. Got up at 9 and NO WATER (AGAIN!) They found the leak in our complex. I am not happy with the "notifications" This is the SECOND night this week that have gone out well after most of us are HOME for the evening and put out flyers saying "no water tomorrow" I think it's time for me to get on this board. These women are idiots. LOL! (This fix should have been done two months ago, instead they sent out 10 notices telling us that we had to have OUR units inspected for drips... heck with as much water as we are talking about you had to have a FLOOD, not a drip.)
Not sure when I will get my run in this weekend. Must have water for the clean up!

I was thinking of you and all the other newbies this morning... we were out for our 10 mile run and I was remembering 3 years ago before I started when I wouldn't have been caught dead 1) being up at 7:00am, 2) outside being active in 30 degree weather, or 3) running. Here I was doing all 3 and loving it! All thanks to the WISH team, who've kept me at this since my first 5K. It was a fabulous run too - first long one since the marathon, and it was really good to be back out there, although I won't be lying when I say I'm glad it's over!

Carol - Sorry you missed the run. We did 10, but planned the route so that part of the group could only do 6. It would definitely have been a bummer to come home to no water though! It's not okay to NOT let people know!
Shan - You'd asked earlier about Galloway's books. Each year they give us a copy of his Training Program book when we sign up, so I have an extra copy. If you want, PM me and I'll send you one. I'll end up with a third copy this spring as soon as I re-join.

Carol? Do you REALLY want us to make that decision for you? They're a bunch of enablers! Course I'm not like that LOL But come on, that close? How are you currently avoiding the temptation? I'd be shaking in my chair if I was booked tHAT close. :rotfl2: Come play! You know you wanna!
This said by the woman who's DH is kicking her butt to the gym and not being subtle... he's literally going to drive me there so I don't get out of it again :lmao:
You are a bad influence.
Changed plane ticket. (I was still within the penalty free change on DL) and the price went down.
Just extended my SSR reservation....
Guess I better head over to Disney and pay them the fee.
not sure HOW I will explain this one to they boyfriend... And this will make four halfs in four months. I AM AN IDIOT!!!! WE HAVE PROOF!
Water is back on! YEAH!
So as soon as I get off the phone with DVC I am heading out to do 8 miles. It's pretty here and will be much more enjoyable then it would have been at 7 AM, just more boring by myself.

Hi everyone-
I forgot to update yesterday... shame shame. lol anyway I finished my first week of C25K! Yay Me! :rotfl:
The Princess Medal looks so great- I wish I could run that this year! I want it!
deekaypee- I have been doing that. I think my leg just wasn't used to all this work- it was fine yesterday on my run so it's cooperating now :) Thanks!
I also have a question about teams if anyone would like to share- What exactly are the teams for and would you recommend joining one? Thanks all!

Katarina - I would most definitely recommend a team! I am on the Buzz Brigade. It is a friendly competition between WISHers. We keep track of our miles and minutes of exercise. Then we see who does the most at the end. Although I have to say I have NO IDEA who won last year. :confused3 It is a great way to get to know a smaller group of the bigger WISH team. You can still post here on the weekly thread to keep up with everyone else. Having the team helped keep me committed to my exercise goals. windwalker (Dave) and escape (susie) are getting our teams organized for the new year. Send one of them a PM, and get thyself on a team NOW! :goodvibes If you have any other questions, feel free to ask.

Ms Duckie? Were you running with Tracy in the Half by the rock 'n roll or Country speakers before the Contemporary?
Hope your able to get the airfare for the Princess!!!
Allie it's Sat and i hope your son's feet are doing well today, I seem to recall there was a game today?
Yes that was Duckie (Jen) and me and her husband (Noah). I was with them from about the TTC to about Main Street or so.
The Thorlos may be out at your local running stores soon or maybe they got an early shipment. I haven't found them online yet. I love my other thorlos but liking the design of these eith the padding being in just the right areas.
Alli: how is your son's feet. I was going to ask how his shoes fit?? Are they a good size for him. Could try use some GLIDE, like runners do on there feet to prevent blisters.

Thanks. I have a $25 coupon for my local running store, so I can see a pair of those sock in my future. ;)
He's healing up nicely, but he has a game this afternoon so we'll see how it goes. Jeff recommended the body glide but I don't have any so we are going to try Vaseline today. Plus I have him some Cool Max sock to wear. They are much more "cushy" than his plain cotton socks were. I hope it goes well AND that they win! :cheer2: I'm sure there will be a report on my FB tonight if they do. ;)
His shoes seem to be fine. They are an 11 1/2! There is a thumb nail amt. of room at the tip, which is what was recommended.
