Social Groups in Atlanta Area

Hi everyone,

I was just wondering if any of you knew or participated in social groups for your ASD children in the Atlanta area. This is the one area where my son has huge problems and I would love to have some sort of social skills training for him or find a group of kids who are willing to get together and work on social skills and maybe make some friends along the way. My son is in sixth grade and really only has one friend, who because of scheduling issues doesn't get to see very often. I know that he would love to have some friends but really doesn't know how to go about it socially. He keeps telling me that he is just shy but I know that it is just the ASD and social issues. Anyone know of any groups or anyone interested in starting some sort of group maybe to meet monthly and get the kids together so they could learn so social skills and make some friends?

I'm sorry I'm in Virginia, but here there are a couple of autism groups that meet regularly. I googled autism in Atlanta, and it looks like the Autism Society of America has a chapter there. I clicked on their website, and they are showing "autism friendly" screenings of "Hotel for Dogs" on January 31st at 3 theaters. It also looks like there's an autism conference the first weekend in March in Atlanta. I don't know if either of those helps, but it looks like there's a large, resourceful community there. :grouphug:

What part of Atlanta are you in. I run a networking group in northwest ATL for parents with special needs children. I know many of my parents have the same issues. I will check to see what is also in the surrounding counties.
