View Full Version : DIS Srapping Challenge #41 - It truly is a SMALL WORLD!

It's a small....small...world!!!

On one of my many visits to the Magic Kingdom recently I was very much inspired to make a digital scrapbooking kit based on this classic attraction.

It's my mom's favorite attraction (besides Carousel of Progress), my sister just loves it...and I can't deny it's historical significance in any Disney fan's mind, including mine.

And admit it - you and I LOVE THAT SONG!

So here's my challenge and what you'll win:

Do you often find yourself saying, "Small world!" for any of the many coincidences that happen in life? I do!! And hey, if I'm not saying it because of something coincidential, chances are I'm saying it because I'm on my way to the attraction...

YOUR CHALLENGE: Scrapbook and journal a "small world" moment in your life. Challenge yourself to think of a moment you've used this phrase...but if you can't think of anything simply take a moment to scrapbook about the attraction.
MUST INCLUDE "Small World" somewhere on the page!!

What you'll win?
MY NEW KIT!!! I'll choose 2 winners - one I pick and one random.

http://i228.photobucket.com/albums/ee72/MikkelPaige/mpaige-smallworld-detail1-1.jpg

Here's a layout I created with it (nope, not for the challenge...just to showcase the kit in my store at Oscraps but I thought it'd be good motivation to get scrapping!)

http://i228.photobucket.com/albums/ee72/MikkelPaige/mpaige-smallworld-detail2-1.jpg

EVERYONE gets a 50% off coupon to my store for the kit even if you don't win. (And I NEVER do that much of a discount!)

The challenge ends Tuesday, January 27th. I'll pick a winner on the 28th.

GOOD LUCK!

Great challenge. And of course now that you ask, I can't think of any of the million times I've said "it's a small world." :rotfl:

Oh, and I love the kit Mikkel!

What a fun challenge! I fully admit that Small World is one of my favorite attractions at Disney. :)

Like RRBB, I suddenly can't think of the times I've said "it's a small world," lol. I could just scrap the ride (I've already scrapped it for one trip, but not our most recent one), but I think I want to use your new, cute kit to scrap it! So, I need to think!

Here's a Disney "small world" moment which is really quite amazing considering we live 1200 miles from WDW. The journaling reads: This photo hangs in the Pop Century Resort at Walt Disney World. It was taken in the 70's in a dorm at R's (my husband's) alma mater and where he teaches now. Small world! It must have been taken during finals week when the students were climbing the walls!

Officially joining my first challenge!!!! AND it was a challenge! I normally just scraplift so I don't share any of my pages. Even though this took me 2 hours, it was so fun to do!

Journaling: We just finished ordering our desserts at Le'Cellier in Epcot when a gentleman came over and said something to my dad and as I looked over to see who it was, I realized they were from our hometown! I knew it was a XXXXXXX but I wasn't sure which one. I couldn't believe him and his family were seated right next to us!!! It's kind of dark in Le'Cellier so at first I didn't notice his daughter but when I did I realized it was Cara XXXXXXX! Brett's 3rd grade classmate! Brett couldn't believe it!!! He was very eager to get a picture with her because he said "This is freaky. No one is ever going to believe this!" We all talked for a few minutes-- where we are staying, what we've visited, our favorite things so far but then we all agreed- running into a family from our hometown, 1,000 miles away, it really is a SMALL WORLD!!!

Thank you so much for posting this challenge. I have been lurking around the scrapbooking forum for a while now feeling completely intimdated by all your wonderful designs and ideas. I have been busy collecting and sorting all the gorgeous free digital scrapbboking resources that I can find. I was ready to start but I hadn't managed to get a project off the ground - I guess I had scrapersblock :rotfl:

Anyway I wanted to get started on my DLRP album, the photos have been waiting since 2005 to have something done with them so it was well over due. The It's a Small World ride had a special memory for us at DLRP so this was all I needed to kick start my album.

This page has taken me literally hours today, this is officially my first ever digiscrap page (one that I would call proper scrapping anyway with papers and embellishments!) and my first scrap challenge. I am really pleased with how it looks but i would love any constructive criticism you experienced scrapers could give me.

http://i79.photobucket.com/albums/j131/Hobbes130/Disney/SmallWorld.jpg

All papers and embellishments are taken from various kits from the amazing Shabby Princess website and the layout (yes I admit it I can't come up with my own yet!) is copyright of Becky Fleck (not sure which website this came from). Hope I have done the credits correctly.

Journalling says: It is the small moments that mean the most; the ones that we should cherish and hold onto. The first time we rode Its a Small World the wonder on your little face made mummy cry. This was the moment we saw the magic of Disney through our child’s eyes.

PS- the journaling says "When a person from Ohio can be introduced to a person from Connecticut over the internet and they can meet in Florida so CT can show OH's son how to scrapbook - it's a small world"

AlexWyattMommy:

Great layout! Love the greens and blues together.

And yes, proper way to give credit. But next time, to save yourself the trouble, you can just write "Everything by Carrie Stephens." That's what I would do! Maybe just include the kit/element names so if someone loves it enough to want to buy it they can easily locate what you used.

Any way to get an extension on this challenge? I lost my computer for 3 days last week due to a virus, and now I'm trying to get links fixed to redownload kits and things that I lost! I'm hoping the deadline is like midnight tomorrow night! Then I could maybe get one done! I'm trying!

Journaling Reads: It just so happened that while Josh and I were in Disneyland, my very best friend from childhood, Cheloni and her new husband Josh were there on their honeymoon! When we found out they’d be there the same time as us we knew we’d have to meet up! We didn’t want to barge in on their honeymoon, so we decided to just spend the evening with them! A few rides, the parade, fireworks, and then we let them be on their own. It was so fun to spend some time at Disneyland with them! What a small world!

This was a really tough challenge for me. I'm sure there are tons of occassions I've been in a "small world" situation. But I couldn't think of any of them. DH had to remind me of this one.

Journaling Reads: After two weeks aboard the Disney Magic experiencing just how small our world really is as we brought the ship home to Florida through the Panama Canal, who would have thought it would be demonstrated again just outside the attraction. We were about to head into it’s a small world when we ran into our table mates from the cruise. Sure, we knew Terri, Steve & Sydney were spending a few extra days at WDW, but we never in our wildest dreams expected to see them there. It was a nice surprise, and the kids had a good time visiting with each other again.

Mikkel, thanks for hosting. This really got my brain working overtime.

I was looking through past Disneyland trips to find something to scrap, and I couldn't believe what I saw! I actually had a "small world" moment to share. Funny how that happens.

The photos are circa 1975 (gasp!) when the country was celebrating the Bicentennial. Our small moment came when my family saw the name of our home town printed on the side of the stagecoach float! There was actually a stagecoach run that went through our town, but whether or not it was called the Simi Valley route, who knows. Most likely one of the imagineers either was from there or lived there at the time.

I think that I did about a gadzillion incarnations of this LO, and here's what I ended up with. I'll most likely do it yet again, but at least I've something to show!

http://quiltymom.smugmug.com/photos/462879177_Cb9zJ-L.jpg

The journaling reads: "The advent of our Nation's 200th anniversary was something that was highly anticipated around the country, even at Disneyland. As a family we always enjoyed watching the parades, even though it meant giving up precious ride time. But we just had to see Disneyland's salute to the Bicentennial, "America on Parade," which gave representation of the history of the Untied States. So imagine our surprise when a stagecoach float came by bearing the name of our home town - Simi Valley, California. You better believe that we cheered our heads off when it passed by!"

It's been too long since I've left love for everyone (sorry!). Since the kids have a snow day today and I don't feel like doing any housework, I though I'd actually do it this week! (I've linked each comment to the page.)

Pooh (http://disboards.com/showpost.php?p=29819484&postcount=6) - This is wonderful. I adore the colors and the way you layered everything. It just fits! And you've gotta wonder just how many people actually do see themselves in a photo somewhere like that. What a story.

mommyofthreeboys (http://disboards.com/showpost.php?p=29852728&postcount=9) - the "explosion" you used is a great way to highlight the one photo. It really makes an impact (pardon the pun!). I love the way the background color matches the dress!

Mrs Hobbes (http://disboards.com/showpost.php?p=29887255&postcount=13) - Welcome! It's always so nice to have a new person playing along with us. And you did a fantastic job on your first LO. I love the way you put the frames around each pic. It does get easier with every LO you do. Just stick around and do all of the the challenges and you'll learn so much! There are a bunch of talented ladies who show their stuff every week.

kswm (http://disboards.com/showpost.php?p=29895924&postcount=15) - Very simple and very georgeous! Your use of red and the word art element makes the LO just pop.

AlexWyattMommy (http://disboards.com/showpost.php?p=29905650&postcount=20) - it's nice to see you over here on the digi-thread! Ditto what I said to Mrs Hobbes. And I love the scrapbooking story! You did a great job - keep the pages coming!

18magic (http://disboards.com/showpost.php?p=29914597&postcount=28) - Wow. Great job using all of those elements. And I really like the way you did your journaling - nice and bright and bold. I'll have to remember that one.

Short and Sweet (http://disboards.com/showpost.php?p=29916006&postcount=31) - welcome to you, too! What a precious moment to remember! Your daughter will love that page as she grows up.

brittney (http://disboards.com/showpost.php?p=29918387&postcount=33) - I just now saw the exclaimation bubble! Ha! You're brave to use all of that black. It really works well. I love the button and string in the star element.

RRBB (http://disboards.com/showpost.php?p=29918602&postcount=34) - Very nice! The calendar border is so much fun. And I love the blended photo background. I'll really need to try that more often. And I love the photos of your dd on the ride. So precious.

Fran (http://disboards.com/showpost.php?p=29923568&postcount=35) - what great photos! I love the way they contrast against the softness of the kit. I think I feel a scraplift coming on! :goodvibes

yzerbear (http://disboards.com/showpost.php?p=29924487&postcount=36) - The then/now angle is great. Your color choices do a fantastic job of highlighting the ride facade. And, as usual, I love your use of the elements. Very fun!

I think I got everyone. Great work!

Firstly thank you so much for the really kind welcome. I do indeed plan on staying around adn following all the challenges each week (except for when I'm in Disney next month) I have so much scrapping that needs to get done.

All of your pages are so amazing I am just in awe of where you all get your ideas from and how you just make it all work so well. I get a bit over whelmed by all the bits that I have. I am a bit of a hoarder and I have been filling our hard drive with loads of lovely freebies but I think now I have too much stuff it's hard to know where to start.

Anyway I got a really sweet pm from Mikkel and she suggested that I try adding some drop shadow to my LO which I have done and she was so right I think it looks so much better as it has made everything stand out more. I have quoted my first attempt so you can see the direct comparison. Thanks so much for the help Mikkel :goodvibes

One word: AMAZING!

I'm totally in awe of all of your layouts. I cannot choose just 1. I love everyone's journaling - love the 2 layouts that were mostly white elements with the Disneyland version of the attraction. Love the layouts that just used "small world" as a concept....loved the ones that used it literally from the attraction. ALL OF THEM!

So instead of me choosing one and then one randomly through a generator I'm just doing both randomly! Here's how I'm doing it: I'll count the amount of layouts then put that number in the random.org website (I can't do it by post because a lot of the posts were comments, not submissions) and then I'll post the winners!

Here I go....drumroll...

Out of 16 entries (woo hoo!) the winners are:

Congratulations to 2 and 9! Which translates to mommyofthreeboys and RRBB! CONGRATS!!

EVERYONE should be on the lookout for a PM from me though! Everyone's getting at least a 50% off coupon if you want that kit from my store (and I never do that!). Only for my fellow DIS-ers. princess:

Haha - I feel like I never win anything either! I had a scratch off lotto ticket the other day and the prize was "$1" and I didn't even win that! I thought, "Would it have killed them to make the $1 prize ticket a winner?" LOL.

CONGRATS! Enjoy it!

OMG, I just realized I won. It's been kind of crazy this week. Thank you so much!!! I love the kit and can't wait to get it.

I had a tough time figuring out what to do for this layout, but once I made the decision I had fun doing it. Thanks again, Mikkel, for this great challenge.

Everyone did a beautiful job, but I just had to comment on these pictures. Fran, these are the nicest photos of Small World that I've ever seen. Great shooting!
