6:50 AM Flight @ PHL - How Early to Arrive??

My adult daughters are flying out of PHL on USAir on a Sat. @ 6:50 AM. How early should they get there? Will the USAir ticket counter be open to take their bags before 6? Any suggestions from those who have flown from PHL post 9/11 early in the day would be appreciated.

Bill, I have. I flew out of PHL on January 3 on a morning flight. It was a ZOO! I'd strongly suggest they get there at 5:00am and get in line. I am sure that a lot of people missed planes that day.

There were lines to check luggage, and HORRIBLE lines at security. We waited 45 minutes at security, and the line was five times as long by the time we got through it.

Luckily we had e-tickets and checked in at the kiosks, but even there we had to wait in line! If our flight hadn't been delayed we would have made it, but not by much.

Saturday would be more crowded than on a weekday, but shouldn't be like Jan.3 which is right after two major holidays (Jan. 3, 2002 was a Thursday). My husband flies almost weekly out of PHL on USAir (business) and says the airport is lite in travelers that early. Check in has improved greatly since fall (Oct. - Nov.) and the Christmas holidays. I would call to see what time USAirways opens their counters that day and ask what they suggest. Makes little sense to get there before that time.

I have looked on the usairways.com website and they state by airport the suggested time of arrival...

Hey Bill...good question to ask...ours leaves at 5:45 am on a Friday. I was wondering how early to get there...
