There was a thread a few months back about the Disney / Miyazaki DVD's. In his latest "Answer Man" column, Roger Ebert addresses this issue by quoting AICN's Moriarity:

"Disney's not angry over 'Princess Mononoke.' Far from it. Their overall deal with Studio Ghibli has been all about bending over backwards to please Miyazaki, following his wishes to the letter. Point in case: The release of the Ghibli titles on DVD in the United States has been held back in order to allow Japanese region-encoded discs to be released first, with enough lead time to prevent reverse exporting. In other words, Ghibli wants to be able to make some money in Japan without Disney's releases screwing it up. And Disney has taken the black eye in public perception and done exactly as Ghibli asked.

Funny how everyone assumes Disney is at fault on this (and every other issue) Why is that do you suppose?

Because to most, Disney is the EVIL money grubbing Empire.
