My favorite CS in WDW is Flame Tree BBQ - hands down. I'm a BBQ freak and I love Animal Kingdom, it makes the decision easy. I always try to make it my very first stop on any trip. This trip was no different. After getting up super early I was staaaaaarving.

I checked in to the resort and then ran to DHS to get a TSM Fast Pass. I was ready to eat my feet at his point, but I knew that I didn't want to ruin perfectly good hunger with a gross DHS meal. Finally, I arrived at AK and my first stop after grabbing a Safari FP was Flame Tree BBQ.

I waited in line maybe 2 minutes, but waited about 10 minutes to actually get my food. I ordered a Beef Sandwich with Coleslaw instead of Beans and a Light Lemonade. The worst part of the wait was that I could SEE my sandwich sitting under the heat lamp, but nobody had pulled my ticket yet to make the order and put it on the tray. I just wanted to yell out - please, I'm so hungry, can I have my sandwich!!!

Eventually, it was delivered and I made my way to the seating area. I grabbed my favorite seat overlooking the water and dug in. I was a victim of the sitting sandwich, the bun was quite soggy. But once I loaded it up with some sweet and spicy BBQ sauce I got past the sogginess. It was as good as I remember it, and the coleslaw hit the spot. You can't have BBQ without coleslaw you know.

This is a meal that I will never hesitate to repeat!

I never ended up eating a REAL dinner on my first day, instead I had my eye on a couple snacks.

The first was outside my now second favorite ride at DHS - Rock'n'Roller Coaster. I had ridden RNRC two times in a row already and was ready for a snack. I had read about something called a Flavor Burst on the Food Porn thread and it sounded intriguing. I looked at the flavors on All Ears and saw that they had Cotton Candy, which I love! I knew that I had to get one.

The cart is just outside RNRC, they serve things like smoothies, chips, cookies, sodas, etc. And they have Flavor Burst! After waiting too long in line behind a British couple that couldn't figure out what they wanted, I placed my order for a Cotton Candy flavor burst. It's basically Vanilla soft serve swirled with flavored soft serve, but mostly vanilla. The Cotton Candy flavor wasn't as strong as I would have liked, but I inhaled it all nonetheless.

http://i262.photobucket.com/albums/ii106/Quacktatty/Disney%20Food/49efa6dc.jpg

My next stop that night was MK for EMH. The place was PACKED, but I was on a mission to get my Cream Cheese pretzel from the Lunching Pad. I stood in line, behind only a couple people, and got up to order my snack, a sprite and a cream cheese pretzel. The guy behind the counter almost ruined my trip when he told me they were out!!! I think he saw the panic in my face because he quickly assured me that more would be available soon, I needed to come back in 15 minutes or so. I got the sprite anyway and sucked it down quickly. I didn't want to go to far from the Lunching Pad, so I rode the TTA while I waited for the pretzels to be ready. After one quick run, I went back down and saw that they were ready. I ended up going to a different line because I didn't want the CM who told me they were out to think I was a desperate weirdo! It was as delicious as I had remembered and it was well worth the wait. I can't quite describe the taste as it's not like something I've had before. The cream cheese isn't terribly sweet, but when combined with the soft pretzel makes a yummy buttery cream cheesy flavor.

They have lots of different flavors although I don't think plain is one of them! Here's the list from All Ears:
Flavor Burst - Served in a Waffle Cone. Bubble gum, pistachio nut, black cherry, tripical orange, Strawberry-banana, blue cotton candy and banana split $3.79

Great start! Can't wait to hear more! :thumbsup2

I had what I would consider a pretty good start to the trip food wise. Breakfast is always a challenge for me. I always feel like I should eat something in the morning, but I often have a hard time finding just the right thing.

I was up super early - at like 6:30 - and I wandered down to Mara to get breakfast and my refillable mug. I grabbed the mug and went over to the hot food station to order. To my surprise when I got in line, where the food was already out and people were standing there ready to serve, they told me that they weren't serving breakfast until 7. Okkkkkkkayyy?? So I purchased my mug and then took a walk around the pool area until just after 7.

They were finally willing to take my order and let me pay for food so I got the Breakfast Platter.

http://i262.photobucket.com/albums/ii106/Quacktatty/Disney%20Food/cf59b5ba.jpg

It is Scrambled Eggs, Bacon (or Sausage), Breakfast Potatoes and a biscuit. I also filled my mug with half hot chocolate and half coffee in an attempt to make a Mocha.

I carried it all back to my room where I sat on the balcony and ate with a giraffe. Staying at AKL is the coolest!!

The breakfast was so so. I covered the eggs and potatoes in syrup and ketchup which made them edible. The biscuit was good, but I wish I had something to dip it in. My attempt at a Mocha was a failure - it was beyond disgusting and I had to throw it down the sink.

I probably could have eaten sawdust if it involved sitting on a balcony watching animals. If I close my eyes and imagine I might get close to what that must have felt like.

AKL sounds like heaven. Although my DD would probably have jumped the balcony and gone chasing after the animals. :rotfl:

Really enjoying the reviews! Thanks!

This was far and away my most disappoint meal of the trip. I had really been looking forward to going to Anandapur Locals Cafe (Yak and Yeti CS) for lunch. I had just gotten done with the Backstage Safari tour and needed something to get me going again. I had read a lot about the Honey Chicken on the boards prior to my trip. People were saying it tasted kind of like McDonald's chicken nuggets with some sauce. Well, secretly, I LOVE chicken mcnuggets. And covered in a honey sauce, that should be great, right? Ugh, no way. I was really disappointed. First it was incredibly hot, and when it was already 90 something degrees, I didn't want to be eating hot food. Second, it was just...ugh. I can't even describe what I didn't like about it. In my notes I wrote "eh". I'm a pretty picky eater, but if you give me something on my list of approved foods, I will like it 99 times out of 100. Sad to say that I won't be eating there again.

As a side note, this was one of the places that I asked for Ice Water and was gladly accommodated. It was nice to know that I could get water for free at the CS places.

Following my disappointing lunch at Anandapur Locals Cafe, I needed a snack. What better to take the lunch time blues away than a Mickey Bar??

I stopped at a cart in AK and grabbed a mickey bar and a coke, and it hit the spot. All was right in the world again.

It was dinner time and I needed something special for my first full day in WDW.

I went down to Victoria Falls (the bar at AKL) for a drink before deciding on what to do for dinner. I ordered a Sunken Treasure which my bartender, Tony, made for me with Tommy Bahama instead of Malibu. This was on his recommendation.

http://i262.photobucket.com/albums/ii106/Quacktatty/Disney%20Food/69277c4b.jpg

I asked Tony about where I could eat dinner and he mentioned that Jiko would serve me the full menu at the bar. Sold!

I went down the stairs and checked in with the hostess. I told her I didn't have a reservation, but was hoping to eat at the bar. She said, No problem! and I was seated immediately.

There are 4 tables at the bar as well as the bar itself which has maybe 6 or 8 seats. I think they try to put the people who are eating at the tables, where I was seated, and leave the bar seats open for those who are having drinks before their meals.

My server Jodi quickly came over to table to take my drink order. I ordered a Hangin' Out in Cape Town which is more or less a Cosmopolitan. This is how I found it described on one website: This cocktail is a blend of Hangar 1 Mandarin Blossom Vodka, Dekuyper Peach Schnapps, Van Der Hum, and Cranberry Juice.

http://i262.photobucket.com/albums/ii106/Quacktatty/Disney%20Food/908caa3e.jpg

One benefit of sitting in the bar area is that your server makes your drink and she does it quickly!

She also gave me the menu to look over, although I had a pretty good idea of what I wanted already, and a place setting.

http://i262.photobucket.com/albums/ii106/Quacktatty/Disney%20Food/02595979.jpg

http://i262.photobucket.com/albums/ii106/Quacktatty/Disney%20Food/613467e7.jpg

I placed my order - Kenyan Coffee Barbecue Beef Short Ribs. While I waited for those to come out, Jodi brought out bread. THE best bread I've had in a long time. Really, it's the butter that makes it wonderful. I think I could have just eaten that and been happy. If I remember correctly there is a multigrain bread and a honey wheat (or something like that) bread. The butter is made with turmeric (I think) and has a really wonderful smoky, spicy but not hot flavor.

http://i262.photobucket.com/albums/ii106/Quacktatty/Disney%20Food/58f19fb5.jpg

My meal arrived and I was drooling before I even took a bite. This meal definitely lived up to expectations. The short ribs was extremely tender and fell right off the bone. I inhaled it and used my leftover bread to soak up some of the delicious bbq sauce.

http://i262.photobucket.com/albums/ii106/Quacktatty/Disney%20Food/2f36e847.jpg

I finished up with a dessert and another drink. My dessert was the Tanzanian Chocolate Cheesecake. It is served with a lavender ice cream that has an interesting but pleasant flavor. I also got a Nutty African which was a coffee drink with Amarula and Frangelico in it. Kind of like an Irish Coffee.

http://i262.photobucket.com/albums/ii106/Quacktatty/Disney%20Food/cb5a1786.jpg

http://i262.photobucket.com/albums/ii106/Quacktatty/Disney%20Food/5bc80c36.jpg

This is quite possibly the best meal I have ever eaten at WDW and is one that I intend to repeat year after year.

After my dinner at Jiko, I went to DTD for one very important thing - Goofy's make your own treats!!

I had been anxiously awaiting this experience. I drooled over page after page of treats on the Food Porn thread. Now it was finally my turn :cool1:

First I filled out my sheets:

http://i262.photobucket.com/albums/ii106/Quacktatty/Disney%20Food/eeb105c3.jpg

3 pretzels - 1 was milk chocolate with peanut butter cups, 1 was milk chocolate with M&Ms and 1 was white chocolate with rainbow sprinkles (I loooooooove sprinkles)

http://i262.photobucket.com/albums/ii106/Quacktatty/Disney%20Food/b77474e7.jpg

A caramel apple dipped in milk chocolate and covered with rainbow sprinkles and peanut butter cups and drizzled with caramel.

It was really fun to watch them make the treats. They do a really good job of making sure the candy sticks. They dig a little hole in the container holding the topping and bury your treat, letting it sit there for a minute or so while the topping hardens on.

Since I got my apple dipped in caramel I had to wait a little bit before I could pick it up. They put it in the refrigerator so that it's cool before they give it to you. That is probably the one down side of the place, you have quite a wait for your treats sometimes. It all depends on how long the line is, if you are getting something complicated, etc. They probably should give out buzzers so you everybody isn't hovering around the desk.

Finally though, I got my treats!

http://i262.photobucket.com/albums/ii106/Quacktatty/Disney%20Food/f450e30e.jpg

http://i262.photobucket.com/albums/ii106/Quacktatty/Disney%20Food/34c6f174.jpg

The pretzel were delicious, although I probably wouldn't get white chocolate again. The apple...it wasn't the best. The apple itself was too tart for my liking, and tasted almost like it had gone bad and it was just soooo hard to eat. Maybe if I had cut off pieces instead of taking bites it would have been easier. Next time I will try something different though.

Since this was my first stay at a Deluxe resort, I wanted to treat myself to In-Room Dining. When I checked in, I saw that there was a door hanger that had the in-room dining breakfast menu on it. You could order your breakfast the night before, indicate what time you wanted it delivered, and then hang it outside on your door handle before going to bed. I realize this doesn't work for all people, but I can often pick what I am going to eat months in advance and still be happy with the choice when I get to the day I'm actually going to order.

I ordered my breakfast and placed it on my door handle. My delivery time was for between 7 and 7:30 (or maybe 7:15?). My server arrived exactly at 7am. I got the impression from him that I may be the only one who requested that delivery time, or at least the only one on his route. I let him in and he set up the tray on the table for me. You get all your food covered up with those metal food covers, the juice (or whatever beverage) is covered with saran as was the syrup. They also bring in your newspaper - which is waiting outside your door each morning.

http://i262.photobucket.com/albums/ii106/Quacktatty/Disney%20Food/bb3c198b.jpg

I ordered the pancakes which came with bacon or sausage (I chose bacon)

http://i262.photobucket.com/albums/ii106/Quacktatty/Disney%20Food/1a6df9ff.jpg

And breakfast potatoes

http://i262.photobucket.com/albums/ii106/Quacktatty/Disney%20Food/6f25d229.jpg

In general, the breakfast was underwhelming. The bacon was probably the best part, but I'm pretty easy to please when it comes to bacon. The pancakes were certainly good, but maybe a little too thick. Also, there were 5 pancakes, I only managed to finish 2 1/2! The potatoes were the worst part, they were really gritty. I don't know what they did to them, but at times I felt as if I was eating sand.

I think I will try In-Room Dining again, but maybe order something else and NO potatoes!

I had a late lunch planned at Kona after my Ft. Wilderness Segway tour. I took the boat from FW to MK and then the resort monorail loop to the Poly. I really like taking the monorail, and usually take the resort loop whenever possible. Someday I'll stay at one of those resorts!!

I checked in a little early for my ADR, which I mentioned to the hostess. She literally laughed in my face and said, "Oh you alone, you don't need no reservation when you eat alone!!" What a great way to start a meal, really :sad2:

With that behind us, I was seated (after walking by that delicious dessert display on the way in). The restaurant was pretty empty, but it was after 2:00 by now, so now surprise there. This was my second time dining at Kona, my first time I was surprised just how small the dining room was. It is a really nice cozy little atmosphere though.

My server was MUCH nicer than the hostess and very attentive. I started off ordering a coke and then taking sometime to look at the menu. Of course, there was no need for this since I already knew exactly what I was going to have!

I ordered the Crab Cakes and the Sticky Wings. This was a repeat of my last meal at Kona.

The crab cakes were as good as I remember them being, albeit a little small. I even ate all the salsa and salad that comes with it! This was my main reason for coming back to Kona and it was worth it!

http://i262.photobucket.com/albums/ii106/Quacktatty/Disney%20Food/0c9e1ed4.jpg

The sticky wings on the other hand were NOT as good as I remember them being. There was too much mustard taste. I think they would be better off without the mustard drizzle because it really is just too strong for my liking. Of course, I finished them all anyway because you can't let even a mediocre wing go to waste :)

http://i262.photobucket.com/albums/ii106/Quacktatty/Disney%20Food/a6b6576b.jpg

For dessert I had the Kona Cone. I'm a cotton candy junkie so this was really a no brainer. I like that it comes with the various toppings on the side so you don't have to tell the server to leave off what you don't like.

http://i262.photobucket.com/albums/ii106/Quacktatty/Disney%20Food/2d38ba25.jpg

The cotton candy is laying on the side instead of standing up in the cone like usual because it was so top heavy that it kept falling over! The toppings on the side were M&Ms, coconut, peanuts and sprinkles. I didn't put any peanuts on though because I'm just not a peanut eater. The coconut was toasted which gives it a great flavor and crunch, and how can you go wrong with M&Ms and sprinkles, right?

I had another great meal and will be sure to return, although maybe next time for dinner so I can get some of that great bread that I keep hearing about!

Earl of Sandwich was a new restaurant for me this trip. I'd heard such great things about it I knew I had to try it. I'm so glad I did as it easily became one of my favorites (after Flame Tree of course!!)

http://i262.photobucket.com/albums/ii106/Quacktatty/Disney%20Food/59467924.jpg

I thought about getting the Hot Roast Beef Smoothie, but opted for a different selection - maybe next trip :rotfl2:

http://i262.photobucket.com/albums/ii106/Quacktatty/Disney%20Food/eb866a4c.jpg

The line was looooong when I arrived around 8:30, which was no surprise. But despite the long line, everything moves quickly. The first person takes your sandwich order and then you move down the line where the last person collects your money. Along the way there are drinks, sides and desserts to pick out. The trick comes when you actually GET your sandwich, that can take a while! I waited maybe 10 minutes for my number to be called out, but at least I knew that my sandwich was being made fresh.

I ordered the Best BLT. Let me tell you, it really WAS the Best BLT. I couldn't believe how delicious it was, especially the bread and the seasoned mayo. I'm not even a tomato eater, but I ate the whole sandwich, or rather, I inhaled it! The bread is just so soft and warm, I can practically still taste it and my mouth is watering as I write this.

http://i262.photobucket.com/albums/ii106/Quacktatty/Disney%20Food/51c8c122.jpg

I also picked up a side of macaroni salad. There's something about elbow noodles in mayo that makes me smile. This was a good one that reminded me of a macaroni salad that I used to get at a deli near where I grew up.

My original intention was to eat half of the sandwich and then go to Ghiradelli's for dessert, but I never made it there. The sandwich was just too good. I'm dreaming of my next one already and I think I might even break tradition and make EOS my first meal in WDW instead of Flame Tree :gasp:

It was a simple breakfast kind of morning. I went down to Mara and grabbed a bagel with cream cheese and strawberry jam. I also picked up a banana, but I didn't eat that until later in the day.

In my refillable mug, I attempted to make a mocha. Half hot chocolate, half coffee. Figured it would drown the taste of that coffee ickyness.

http://i262.photobucket.com/albums/ii106/Quacktatty/Disney%20Food/92b9ebe8.jpg

The mocha was disgusting, I ended pouring most of it down the bathroom sink. Won't be trying that again!

This was my first experience with a sit-down meal in MK. Okay, I may have eaten some place when I was a child, but as an adult, this was the first time. My ADR time was for 1:10pm and I arrived early, but it took 25 minutes to be seated and another 5 for my server to come over. I was in the thick of free dining after all.

I had looked at the menu about 100 times before my trip and new exactly what I was going to order. And then I changed my mind. My original plan was to get two appetizers - either the crab cakes and tavern fried cheese or crab cakes and french onion soup if it was being offered that day. Well, the soup was clam chowder (I think) and that seems to be all it took to throw me off!

I ended up ordering a Coke to start, in the cool LTT mug
http://i262.photobucket.com/albums/ii106/Quacktatty/Disney%20Food/4c284691.jpg

I did get the crab cakes - because I love crab cakes! They were really good. I even ate all of the succotash that it was served with. I was expecting it to be warm, but instead it was chilled. It complimented the crab cakes very well in flavor and in texture.

http://i262.photobucket.com/albums/ii106/Quacktatty/Disney%20Food/3e96afa6.jpg

Instead of going for a second appetizer, I ordered the Pot Roast. It was just OK. I think in my mind I thought I liked Pot Roast way more than I actually do. It was also really big. When I make pot roast at home I eat small pieces and usually have a baked potato to go along with it. This was a big hunk of meat over mashed potatoes with lots of other chunky veggies. I ate most of the carrots as I secretly looooove cooked carrots!
http://i262.photobucket.com/albums/ii106/Quacktatty/Disney%20Food/d2fdf7af.jpg

The one thing I didn't wavier on was dessert. The Ooey Gooey Toffee cake was calling my name. It was incredible! I didn't need a drop more of food, but I inhaled this. The base is almost a Blondie type brownie and it was very undercooked (in a good way). Then it's topped with Vanilla Ice Cream and Caramel Sauce along with some toffee pieces. Easily the best dessert of the entire trip.
http://i262.photobucket.com/albums/ii106/Quacktatty/Disney%20Food/16698981.jpg

I will likely repeat this meal, next time sticking with the two appetizers instead of an entree!

Aloha Isle is the oasis of Adventureland. People dream about visiting Aloha Isle, sometimes on a daily basis - I know I do. Why?

The Dole Whip!!!

Despite the fact that I had inhaled my Liberty Tree Tavern lunch, I was aching for a Dole Whip Float.

It was tart, sweet, cool and refreshing and I am drooling thinking about the next time I get to have one.

Casey's had alluded me earlier in the week when I tried to eat there on an EMH evening. This was my first meal ever at Casey's which was surprising since I am a hot dog fiend. I walked in and there was absolutely no one in line. While this is nice, I always find it overwhelming because there are 3 CMs staring at your waiting to take your order.

I jumped in the closest line and ordered the hot dog meal with fries. I covered the hot dog in ketchup and sauerkraut and grabbed myself a few sides of cheese sauce. My favorite place to eat when I was growing up was the A&W Hot Dog Stand in the mall. I always got the Frankfooter and Cheese Fries. This was a pretty good replacement.

Of course, the wheat bun was not so fabulous, a little dry for my taste. The cheese fries on the other hand were heavenly. I am embarrassed to admit that I did give in and feed a fry to one of the birds. I know I know, I never should have done it and normally I wouldn't, but it was just so pathetic. It was also starting to get close to this little boy in a stroller and so I told myself that by giving the bird one of my fries I was saving this little boy from a life of ornithophobia!

I have no pictures for this installment, :GASP:, but I realllly just wanted to get me some drinks!

I went back to my new favorite place, Victoria Falls, at AKL. Tonight, Frank the bartender took care of me. I ordered a Sunken Treasure (same as the first night). It was delicious again and looked just like the first one I had - see that post for pictures.

After that I had a Mudslide Martini. It was recommended by Frank and I think it was also one of those standard drink book drinks. I couldn't find a picture for you, so here's the recipe and you can make one for yourself!

Pour equal parts of Vanilla Vodka, Bailey's Irish Cream, and Kahlúa over ice (in a one cup glass). Fill the glass with milk. Stir and then strain the drink into a martini glass. The drink is not served with ice.

I finished up my drink and sat for a few more minutes relaxing at the bar and watching TV. A man came up to the bar and ordered a Kahlua Colada. He said he had gotten one at the pool bar earlier. He explained to the bartender what it was since she had not heard of it. It was basically a regular pina colada but with some Kahlua in it. She made the drink and gave it to the guy. The bartender let me have the leftovers from the blender. It was pretty decent, but very sweet - so if that's not your thing then you wouldn't like this!

I am so pathetic ... I love the wheat buns. Although I do get some plain old white bread for DH ... all I eat is double-fiber wheat. DH is forced to eat the white-wheat hot dog buns at home so we are used to them.

I was giggling over saving the little boy in a stroller from being afraid of birds. :lmao: I ... um ... always drop a little something from my plate for the birds too. Yes ... I didn't do it for the honorable intentions you did ! I just can't help myself. At home, I have the fattest squirrels ... my SIL says I make all the animals around me fat ... I feed them too much!

Ni Hao!!!!!! Welcome to my Lotus Blossom Cafe review.

I guess I should explain. The CMs at the Lotus Blossom Cafe basically scream at you as soon as you get within their sight: "Ni Hao! Welcome to China!" Uhhh....thanks for the welcome, but give me a second to look at the menu.

I knew that I wouldn't be having a big meal here as I had some snacking planned for later, so I just got a light meal.

Egg Rolls and Caramel Ginger ice cream

The egg rolls were really good, I pretty much drowned them in duck sauce like I do with most of my Chinese food.

The ice cream was awesome. The ice cream flavor itself was not very strong, but there were pieces of ginger mixed in that added some bite and texture. I will definitely get this again!

Kringla Bakery:

I have this strange love of fake strawberry. I hate real strawberries, unless they are in that thick sugary syrup. I also loooove rice pudding. So what else would I get here but Rice Cream?

It's basically rice pudding and fake strawberry sauce gook layered together. But let me tell you, it's great. I am thinking of attempting to make it myself, but that might require me to actually go to the grocery store!

Cantina De San Angel:

Boooooo....that's all I have to say about that. I got a churro here, a snack I had been looking forward to for months. I hadn't had one in almost 10 years and apparently forgot that they are NOT GOOD! The one I got was almost crunchy and not very warm. Not what my mouth wanted. I won't be making the same mistake again with this snack.

If Jiko was my best tasting meal of the trip, Teppan Edo was my best overall experience!

The last time I ate here was 2003 - when it was Mitsukoshi Teppanyaki. On my 2007 trip it was closed for renovations, so this was my first chance to try the new place out. I love Japanese Hibachi restaurants. When I got to California to visit family, my favorite place to go is called The Mikado which is at the Marriott in Palm Springs. You take a boat to the restaurant and overall you get the royal treatment from the staff. But I digress...

I arrived at Teppan Edo and the place was PACKED! Since it shares a waiting area with Tokyo Dining I imagine this is often the case. Despite the crowd, I checked in with ease and got my buzzer. I was buzzed about 15 minutes later and was seated with 3 other parties, two couples and a group of three (a couple and their friend). I sat between the wife of one of the couples and the friend from the group of three.

There were two waitresses serving us that night. One was the "head" girl who took the orders and the other helped with drinks and what not. I liked that they offered forks at the beginning of the meal to everyone. I don't think that anyone took one, but I often find that when people aren't offered one, they are too embarrassed to ask and then struggle to eat the whole meal.

We ordered drinks first and waited while the waitress explained the dining plan options to the two parties who were using it. It's funny to me that people don't know what's included, shows to go you that I spend wayyyyy too much time on these boards :rotfl:

We placed our orders for food and soon the chef arrived at the table. While he was cooking I talked with the other folks at the table and learned that two of them were from one town over from where I was buying my house. And their family owned a fish market that is down the street from me! The Chef, Tom, heard us talking and told us that he too had lived in that town at one time! It was so funny...3 people I had never met in my life and we all had so much in common.

For a starter I got the Crispy Sukiyaki Beef Roll. It's basically thin sliced beef and I think scallions (?) rolled up in rice like sushi and then cooked on the grill. It was delicious! I eat sushi, but usually only the vegetarian kind. This was a new one for me and I really enjoyed it.

http://i262.photobucket.com/albums/ii106/Quacktatty/Disney%20Food/96bc2e02.jpg

For my entree I ordered the steak and shrimp combo. Not quite the Filet and Lobster combo I got back in 2003 (verified thanks to the awesome Internet Way Back Machine!!!) but you can't have it all, right?

Tom was all business when it came to cooking. He did not even attempt to put on a show like the others often do - except for the Onion Volcano of course :lmao: . But you know what? I didn't mind. We were all having such great conversation and a good time with him that I don't think anybody missed it.

http://i262.photobucket.com/albums/ii106/Quacktatty/Disney%20Food/3d7c20c8.jpg

http://i262.photobucket.com/albums/ii106/Quacktatty/Disney%20Food/936e0321.jpg

The steak was cooked perfectly and the shrimp was seasoned just right. I'm not a seafood eater except for crab for the most part, but I love the way that shrimp and lobster is seasoned at the Japanese restaurants so I almost always end up getting it.

http://i262.photobucket.com/albums/ii106/Quacktatty/Disney%20Food/65c4c36b.jpg

For dessert I had the chocolate ginger cake (no picture!) It was okay, but it was just cake. It didn't have a strong ginger flavor which I was hoping for.

I said goodbye to my fellow diners and attempted to leave the restaurant. Apparently I wasn't paying attention when we walked in because I got stuck in the restaurant! I didn't realize that you had to exit into the hall to get out. I kept trying to walk towards what I thought was the entrance, boy was that dumb! I couldn't figure out why the aisles were so narrow... Eventually I made my way out, but it took me a while!

I had purchased some Zebra Domes at Mara earlier in the week, along with some milk. I decided that this would be the time to eat them!

They come 5 to a package, so I figured I'd eat one or two before bed. When I took my first bite I realized that I wouldn't be able to stop at just one or two! They are delicious. The flavor isn't too strong, at least not for me, and the inside is moist and nommmmmmm.

I got a late start to the day and was afraid that the Mara would be busy. I guess I lucked out because it wasn't crowded at all.

I got a breakfast platter and an OJ. I love the refillable mugs, but sometimes at breakfast I just don't want a soft drink and the coffee is ugh! So I bit the bullet and bought some overprice OJ, but it hit the spot.

http://i262.photobucket.com/albums/ii106/Quacktatty/Disney%20Food/60e4913b.jpg

The breakfast platter was nothing special as usual. I think going forward I will be eating fewer breakfast platters, they just don't do it for me. I eat them because I like to have a big meal to start the day but I think I could find tastier ways to do that.

Another lunch at my favorite place, Flame Tree BBQ!

I tried the Ribs for the first time, never had them before. I give them a rating of "decent". They were a little fatty, but certainly edible. But I think I'll still stick with the pork and beef sandwiches from here on out.

I got a side of coleslaw instead of the corn muffin and kept the beans. Beans are usually on my NO list because they have a weird texture that I just can't get past. The Flame Tree beans however have a really sweet smell and taste that I love, so sometimes I need to eat them. I ate a good portion, though I didn't finish them. The coleslaw I inhaled because I haven't met a coleslaw I didn't like!

This is quite possibly the best meal I have ever eaten at WDW and is one that I intend to repeat year after year.

Its rather worrying that I keep looking at this post over and over again

Thanks for the updates - I love that they have Mickey waffles at the Mara as we are hoping to stay at AKL this October.
Yes, Mickey Waffles are always a good thing!! I hope you get to stay at AKL, it's awesome!

Oh my gosh.

Thank you!!!!!!!
Glad I could help!!!

Oh I love the Zebra Dome's. When we were at AKL we ordered room service and for desert got a HUGE zebra dome desert. I am loving your dining report and just finished your 2007 solo. On to read more. I would love to get the courage to do a solo trip... if my DP and my DS's would let me go alone.
Zebra Domes are nom! I cannot wait until I can have some more.

Its rather worrying that I keep looking at this post over and over again

Before I talk about my dinner I will mention that I had a Frozen Banana at AK and more Zebra Domes from AKL sometime during this afternoon. However, I have no pictures. I will chalk it up to the fact that I was dead tired!

Tangierine Cafe was another meal that I had been looking forward to. Our local Gyro place at work had closed at the end of last year and I was hurting for some Shawarma. The line at this place was horrendous and seemed out of order, but I think at no fault of the Tangierine Cafe. There was one line to order your food, on the right, and another to receive your food, on the left. People kept getting in the wrong lines, arguing over which was the right line, etc. Luckily I was behind a very nice woman and we had a lovely chat the whole time.

I did eventually get to order and eat my food. First up was the lamb wrap:

It was good, warm, tasty, soft bread, the works. I would get this again in a minute (although my craving for Shawarma has lessened since I found another place to get my gyro fix). The couscous and lentil salad I wasn't a fan of. I know you can substitute for something else if you don't like something, but none of the sides really did anything to thrill me.

I also got some Baklava:

It was OK. A woman I work with makes it homemade, so it's hard to compare. It was cold and kind of dry, maybe if you get it in the afternoon at lunch it would be different?

To drink I had (or was supposed to have) a Tangerine Daiquiri. I had to go over to the bar to get this. It either didn't have any alcohol or it was extremely weak. Not very tasty, it was like eating a snow cone when you suck all the flavor out of the ice and just the chunks of ice are left.

It was overall a disappointing experience. If I had stopped at the Lamb Wrap, I probably would have been happy. I won't rule it out in the future, but I won't be going back anytime soon probably.

Kaki Gori is soooo good. There isn't much more to say. I got the rainbow Kaki Gori - Strawberry, Tangerine, and Honey Dew Melon. I ate this as I was walking out of Epcot during Illuminations. Kind of hard to eat and walk in the dark all at the same time, but I managed!

So sorry to hear about your experience at Tangierine Cafe. DH and I shared the Shawarma Platter (ckn & lamb) twice because we thought it was so good!

Hopefully when you decide to go back sometime it will be much better!

Here's a rare view of the inside of a Zebra Dome

Well this is it, the last day at WDW. I decided to skip the boring Mara breakfast this morning and head straight to EMH at DHS to get in a couple more rides on TSM.

After riding three times, I was getting hungry. I decided on Starring Rolls Cafe for breakfast.

I procured a Chocolate Croissant

http://i262.photobucket.com/albums/ii106/Quacktatty/Disney%20Food/d9beea46.jpg

and a Toll House Cookie (for later :rolleyes1)

http://i262.photobucket.com/albums/ii106/Quacktatty/Disney%20Food/74df977b.jpg

They were both delicious, very good choices. The croissant was moist and the cookie was chewy without being too chewy and crispy without being too crispy...makes sense, right?

I also picked up a chocolate covered strawberry and cotton candy at the Sweet Shop (no pictures :upsidedow)

This is it, my last official WDW meal :sad1:

I knew from the get go that I would end this trip where I started it, Flame Tree BBQ. I really can't get enough of this place.

I ordered the Beef Sandwich with a side of coleslaw (instead of beans). Exactly the same meal I had on the first day! This time it was better, no soggy bun like I had the first time around. Everything else was par for the course. This will always be my favorite place to eat I think.

I did have one last snack as I was leaving the park

It was a great way to wrap up a great trip.
