View Full Version : how to use outside insurance?

I have heard that going through a place like insuremytrip is a better deal and can cover both flight and cruise. So how do you do this? Do you book your cruise, then book your flight (or vice versa) and then go to the website and get the insurance? We haven't book yet, but if al lgoes well we will book very close to the time we would actually cruise. Can I still get Ins. through them? I assume having it will then cover any medical problems that could happen or lost luggage, etc from the flight or cruise. But what about cancelation. DH could possibly have to cancel. It's rare, but with his job that could always be a possibility. If we did cancel we would move the date rather than actually want money back.
So looking for advice from you wise ones! ;)

We always get travelguard you get it after you book. We have never had to us it. The fee is after you book everything and then the rate is by the total of your trip. We are a $2,000. trip to them so we are paying $88.00
Hope this helps:groom:

You can buy travel insurance at any time up to the point that your trip starts. However, if you book it within a certain period (usually 14 days) after booking the trip, it will cover pre-existing medical conditions. This CAN be a big plus.
You buy it in $500 increments based on the price (per person) of your trip. There are several different companies--go to ***************** to check rates, etc. The cost is based on the age of the travelers, where you are going, etc. Many companies insure kids free with parent's trip.

We went to squaremouth and was able to compare many companies and get a better deal with better coverage than through our TA.
Just need to make sure the policy you get meets your needs (cancel any reason, cancel for work reasons, etc.)
