Disney Brides Conquer the World! A mini weekend getaway! Final Update-2/28

I'm excited I can finally start this trip report!! A group of girls that met on the Weddings/Honeymoon forum have been planning a meetup for about a year now! Well, that meet finally happened Marathon Weekend at Walt Disney World!! Here's a recap of our 3 day weekend trip! I met up with a friend whose parents' live in New Orleans and we flew into Orlando together to meet up with everyone else. It was mostly girls who went but some husbands tagged along, too!!

Friday was the worst day I've had at work in a LONG time! The rest of the week had seemed to drag on by but Friday was CRAZY!!! It was non-stop mad house from start to finish! I got off an hour late (we close at noon) and met up with Jason for lunch, then I had to go BACK to finish up some more work that I forgot to do!

It put me leaving a LOT later for New Orleans than I had wanted but it was ok!

As I got in the car, Pixie ran out to meet me. She wanted to come along, too!

And my adventure begins. I've never driven past Lafayette (about an hour from where I live) so I was nervous for this trip. I did make a stop at Starbucks which set me back 20 minutes because the Starbucks in Lafayette isn't right off the interstate (I didn't know that) so I had to drive through 5 oclock traffic...crazy. I also HATE bridges and then bridge into Baton Rogue is MASSIVE. But I made it over and all was well!

I think I got to Heather's parent's house around 8 or so. We put all of our goodie bags together then went to sleep! We had a VERY early morning ahead of us!!!

Saturday morning, we woke up about 4:30 a.m. to get ready. We had to leave by 5:15 a.m. in order to be at the airport on time. Our flight was scheduled to leave at 7:00 a.m.

We had no turbulence or anything scary on the flight...I think Heather and I both would have freaked a lot if something crazy would have happened!

Our plane landed in Orlando with no problems! We got out and made our way to Magical Express. Or tried to at least. We ended up on the wrong side of the airport because we weren't paying attention to where we were going! lol! We finally found it...

I was excited to be on a Disney bus because for our December trip, we ended up on a boring Mears bus and we missed the cute little video!!

We pulled up at Coronado Springs and we got off the bus as quick as we could! It was time to meet up with our friends!

So for lunch, we were undecided on what to do! We decided to go to our rooms and deposit our stuff and then figure out what to eat.

Well, as we were checking in, the lady told us that we had been "upgraded" to a Water View. The reason being that we were with a "Grand Gatherings" group and they had all booked waterview rooms and our rooms were all next to each other! Yay for a free upgrade (or so we thought)! She also told us that a "delivery" had been made to our room? We were very curious about that one!

Anyway, we got checked in ok and made the long trek to our room!

As we were taking these pictures, a girl that was walking towards us was waving. I thought at first, "Who is that?" and then when she got closer, she took off her sunglasses and I realized it was ALEXIS!!! She was going to meet Christina in the Peppermarket for Breakfast so we said we'd meet up later!

We deposited all of our junk off and then decided to go check out the Peppermarket and see what they had to offer!

We got inside the Peppermarket and were really confused as to how it all worked! They seated us at a table which I thought was odd for "counter service" then a girl asked what we wanted to drink. We never did sit down but she brought us two waters. We looked over the menu and were very surprised by the prices!! Seriously for a counterservice!?!? We decided to leave...lol! So we left the waters there (which we both felt REALLY bad for) and went to the bus stop. We had a little time before our Castle meet at 1 p.m. so we figured we'd get something quick to eat in the Magic Kingdom. At the bus stop, we saw Alexis and Christina!!!

We even got to ride the bus to MK with them!

We did end up waiting a while for the MK bus but once it got there, we made it to MK in no time!

It felt like so long since I'd been to WDW! It had been since Christmas of 07!! I know this is stupid but I felt confused after figuring out the layout of DL, I was wondering where everything was in WDW! lol! It had me confused!

The first stepsister wasn't very funny so I just took pictures of this one! She was hysterical! She asked Jeff if he was a pirate because he has an earring. Then she asked where his Parrot was! Hah!!!!! Then he made a hilarious comment which wasn't supposed to come out like it sounded but he was trying to get her to meet him at 6 a.m. to come run the Marathon. I don't think she liked that idea too much....

Let me just start off by saying that this part was one of my least favorite parts of the trip. I enjoyed hanging out with everyone and seeing everyone, but I'm not a huge fan of alcohol. I don't drink at all and I was just a little uncomfortable. I enjoyed the piano entertainment, though!

We got ready at our hotel and Kelly drove us all over to the Boardwalk for Jellyrolls! I had never been to the Boardwalk until this point. I've seen it in SO many of our Bride's pictures and I was excited to see it in person!!!

The following morning, we woke up and met up with Daniella and Kelly Jo. Well, we had adjoining rooms anyway so we really just opened the door! Haha!

Anyway, they were leaving this morning to go home.

After breakfast, we said goodbye to Daniella and Kelly Jo, then we boarded a bus for MGM studios. I had never ridden Toy Story Mania so we wanted to grab fast passes for that and also see our friends running the marathon!

We made it over and were greeted by this! Crazy madness! It was so awesome, though! We were around mile 24 so by the time the runners got there, they were about finished. Everyone was cheering them on! It was GREAT!

This guy was HILARIOUS! He kept us laughing! He was a worker and he took his job seriously! His job was to let people cross when there was a break in the runners. He would be like, "GO GO GO GO GO!" and guesture with his arms....it was so funny!

So by this time, we were getting super worried. Jen and Jeff were supposed to have already passed us. We looked for orange hats and couldn't find them. They had quit texting us, too. We had no idea what had happened. We were worried that someone got hurt!

After riding TSM, we gave our fastpasses for 4 p.m. to two random girls. they were so excited! We decided to leave and go to DTD and shop for a while. We had Whispering Canyon reservations for later on that night. Jen had to watch the Giants game after her race! Haha!

Thank you!! We had great weather on Saturday and Sunday! Monday was really overcast and windy and chilly but SUnday's weather was perfect!! The guy behind us was with our group! He's one of the girl's fiances.

I ran a 5K here in my hometown last weekend and have signed up for two more in March and April! I love it! I used to run in high school (cross country) and got out of it. I am hoping to do the 1/2 Marathon in January of 2010!! hopefully....fingers crossed! lol! Thank you!!! :)

Sunday, January 11, 2009 Continued....

After riding TSM, Heather and I decided to go to DTD. We wanted to utilize the free time to get some shopping done!!

We realized that there was no bus going directly from Hollywood Studios to DTD which is really stupid, so we walked over to the Boardwalk to catch the bus there.

Finally I could see it in the daylight! Where so many of my friends were married!!

We got to DTD and I went straight into the 12 Days of Christmas store. I LOVE that place. I bought an ornament and was going to have them personalize it. I was told 15 minutes max. Ok great...all I needed was a date placed on it. Heather was shopping around for a while with me but started to feel lightheaded so she went outside to sit down. I was watching the lady personalize my ornament and she was taking FOREVER! She did a great job but I was in a hurry, espeically with Heather not feeling good. Heather came back inside to tell me that she was going to try to find something to eat and told me how she was feeling worse and worse and the lady kept on taking her precious time. It was making me crazy!!! Heather left and went to find food. I swear she looked like she was about to pass out. Remember, we didn't eat lunch and all we had for that day was nothing but sugar!

Finally my ornament was finished and I met up with Heather by Team Mickey. She had gotten some Nachos and cheese.

It was getting late so we all headed back to our hotels. Heather and I wanted to put our stuff down and change for dinner. We had ADR's at Whispering Canyon Cafe. I had never been there before but heard great things about it!

We waited for Jen and Jeff (I think I remember the Monorail having difficulties so they were a few mintues late) and then we checked in. Heather told them that we wanted to be seated in the main dining room and have a fun server. We didn't mind waiting a few extra minutes for that. Meghan and I talked Nurse talk the entire time!

Jeff was clueless! Heather had him ask for ketchup (she knew what was going to happen)! So our server made all of us yell, "HEY! WE NEED THE KETCHUP!" Within seconds, this family brought over about 10 bottles of ketchup!!! It was so funny! Poor Jeff! He's SUCH a good sport!

During the meal, the wait staff was trying to find people who were celebrating a special occasion. Apparently there were none so Heather yelled out, "HOW ABOUT THE MARATHON RUNNERS?!" So the guy was like OK and he asked all of the Marathon runners to stand up and do the HOKEY POKEY! Haha!!! Poor people were hurting! It was funny watching them try to do the moves but I felt bad for them knowing they were in pain!

After saying goobbye, we boarded a monorail to the MK. It was about midnight and we knew that EMH were until midnight so we figured it was time to get back to our hotel! We even got to ride in the front of the monorail!!!

As we stepped off of the monorail, we noticed how quiet and empty the park was. We were all very confused! We heard the guy on the monorail talking to someone on his walkie talkie about four ladies needing an escort to the busses but we had no idea why! This very nice security guard followed us all the way to the busses....which were also DESSERTED! ?!?!?!?!

We quickly realized our mistake! The MK closed at ELEVEN p.m. and NOT midnight! Busses were supposed to STOP running at midnight! We ALMOST missed our ride back to our hotel!!! Yikes!!!! How crazy would that have been?!?! Thankfully, everyone was SOOOO very nice and got us home safely!

We woke up on Monday morning and ate the fruit that we had taken out of the concierge room at the Poly from the night before! :rotfl2:

I got up about 30 minutes before the alarm because I wanted to go to the gift shop of the hotel and see if I could find a shirt for my mom. It was a shirt that I had seen at MGM that had Dopey on it and it said, "I'm with Grumpy". If you remember from our Christmas trip report, we jokingly said that my mom's nickname is Dopey and my dad's is Grumpy! Well, I was going to buy her the shirt at MGM the day before, but they didn't have any special Grumpy shirts so I put it back. We went to DTD that day and in the World of Disney store, I saw a men's shirt that said, "I'm Grumpy because you're Dopey!" I got so excited but my excitement didn't last long because WOD didn't carry the women's Dopey shirts!!! I bought the Grumpy one for my dad anyway in hopes that I would find the other shirt for my mom somewhere else. Ok so that takes us to this morning....

I walked around for a while and looked, but no such luck in this store! I was so bummed!!!!

After having no luck in the store, I went up to the check in counter to ask for a Magical Gatherings button. I'm not sure why we didn't get these on check in but I collect the buttons and I wanted one, dangit! lol! I got one for Heather, too! I then went back to meet up with Heather in our room and make sure everything was packed and ready to go! I also called and booked a bounce-back plan for September with my parents!!!! :woohoo: So excited! We'll be staying at the Wilderness Lodge!!!!

We had plans to meet up with Mary, Crystal, Jen, and Jeff at Epcot so we hurried to check out. The guy kept me on the phone FOREVER setting up the reservation for September! As we were checking out, we saw that our "free" upgrade wasn't so "free" after all! We booked a standard room. Disney upgraded us without asking, then charged us for the room! NO MA'AM!! Heather noticed and asked the lady about it. She had her manager look at the invoice and gave it to us at the price that we booked it for! Made no sense at all!!!!

So after all of that was said and done, we had bell services hold our luggage and we headed for the buses.

The line was SO SHORT! I've NEVER walked through the Soarin line that fast before! We asked to be on the front row. Well apparently this honeymoon or engaged couple or something had asked the same thing but they wanted to pick their seats. The girl had heard that the edges of the rows on Soarin were really scary and she was afraid of heights so she was scared to ride on the end. We convinced them to move down just one spot (which didn't put them on the end) so that we could all sit together!

I'm looking forward to April for some more Mickey rice crispy treats and THIS drink in Ghirardelli! It was AMAZING! My mouth is watering just thinking about it! They crushed up pieces of their caramel chocolates and mixed them with ice cream! SINFUL!! lol!

Sadly, we didn't get to stay in Ghirardelli long because it was time to go! Heather and I made our way to the bus stop just as a bus was pulling away! UH OH!!!!

We waited and waited for a good 20 minutes until finally another bus pulled up. We made our way over to the P.I. side of DTD and apparently our driver was getting off of work and they were changing drivers. Well, this new driver got on the bus, took his SWEET PRECIOUS TIME getting all of his stuff together and we sat for another good ten minutes or so. We were so anxious and mad that finally Heather went and told him our dilemma! It was already like 1:05 p.m. by this point and we had to be at our Magical Express bus stop by 1:15 p.m. He abruptly and rudely told Heather that he could NOT speed in the bus! HELLO!!! That's NOT what she was asking you to do! She wants you to QUIT taking your precious time and get us to our hotel!!! Just GO already! Ugh. Finally, we left and arrived at our hotel at 1:15 p.m.!!! JoDee and Pat were on the bus and had saved us seats.

We of course arrived at the airport like 2 hours before our plane time. The line at Southwest to check in your luggage was MASSIVE!!!! Pat somehow saw the guy at curbside with no line and waved us over to get our luggage there! THANK YOU Southwest curbside guy!!! lol! We tipped him generously and then went to wait on our planes!

Sadly, the time had come to say goodbye and go our separate ways!

I had SUCH a wonderful trip and REALLY enjoyed meeting up with everyone! I can't wait till we do this again!!! I had such a great time with everyone!

We made it safely to New Orleans and then I made it back home in one piece! Pixie was overjoyed to see me! lol!

Thank you so much!!! We did have a blast! Loved every moment of the trip! No we aren't staying at the Poly! I WISH but we aren't! Lol! We are going on a Disney Cruise in April - taking a Western cruise on the Magic. The days are Saturday to Saturday. When we return to port, we're taking a bus to the Animal Kingdom Lodge for a 1 night stay then coming home on Sunday. No parks unfortunately but I did make reservations at Boma!!! Yay!!! Then in September, we're staying at the Wilderness Lodge as are my parents! I unfortunately don't have an Annual pass, either. Heather does, but I don't. We usually only visit Disney once a year so Annual passes wouldn't be worth it for us. Ah well. I'm glad you enjoyed the report!!!! I can't wait for the next one! :thumbsup2

Thank you so much!! I can't wait for the cruise! Just about 6 more weeks! Yay!!! That ice cream was to die for! One of the reasons I want to stay an extra night after our cruise is so we can go to DTD for ice cream and mickey mouse rice crispy treats! :rotfl:

Sad that your trippie is over! :( What ship are you going to be cruising on and where are your ports of call? I'm warning you now...cruising is addicting...especially with disney! I didn't even do a TR for our Dec trip - I had planned to, even took the food pics!!!! But MIL really destroyed our trip this year (as you may recall, she wasn't a treat the year before either;) ), so much that I didn't think I even would go back to WDW....so I didn't start a TR when we got back, then all the stuff above happened, and well...no TR!

Karen - this was another great report. I am glad it was just a weekend trip as I was able to get through it quickly so I didn't feel TOO behind;) Great pics as usual!!!
We have never done the Goofy's candy shop but will have to in May - I wonder if you can use a DDP snack credit for the custom rice crispy treat??? We will be at POFQ so can just take the boat to DTD. (So yes, despite the horrible trip with MIL, we are going back...DH convinced me to try again with just our family this time)
