View Full Version : Take the DDP or Pay OOP?

Alright, here's the problem... can't decide whether to stick with the DDP or just wing it.

2 Adults
1 Child (under 3)
1 Infant

In the past, we have taken the DDP - it's just been DH and I (our eldest little one is still under the 3 year mark). Duncan always shared from our plates at CS or TS meals - and the odd time when he was hungry, we just used up a snack credit or bought a kids meal.

This trip, we're sort of leaning towards paying out of pocket. Why... I just don't foresee being able to sit down for a TS meal every day. Are we making a mistake? Really the only TS our little one wants to eat at is Crystal Palace, and we normally go there for lunch (Duncan's main meal of the day). DH would like to revisit Boma, Tutto or even try the Tusker House Lunch - but those are just if the little ones cooperate!

Yes, we looked at the quick service plan - but it does not appeal either... Why? I've been known to take advantage of the kids meals when I don't want the big CS portions. Not to mention I find the whole dessert with every meal annoying - last trip, we kept giving desserts away :headache:

So, anyone else been through this lately? What did you decide?! I've got 11 days before we leave, so the clock is ticking!!

We've never done the DDP because we don't eat TS once a day, only a couple of times per trip.

As for the new quick service DDP it's not going to work with my DD9 because she likes salads and other foods that aren't kids meals and I don't like most of the kids meals either so we can't just get a kids meal and an adult meal and swap. Same issue with DH, he says the kids meals don't have enough food for him and DS13 will only eat kids meals yet he'd have to order off the adult menu at most places.

So no DDP or QSDDP for us. It's just too much of a problem so we don't do it. Plus we aren't throwing away food since we only get what we will eat.

Good luck deciding.

What I did was go to a web-site that provided menus with prices. You can do the math to see if it's worth your while. My guess is that since you are basically talking about lunches, it will be cheaper to pay as you go. We love the DDP, but we have a TS every day. We try to make those dinners as much as possible, as that is the most expensive meal.

Have a great trip!!

Good point - I should have mentioned I went through the menus and pricing. That's why Im on the fence. From looking at the OOP angle, we'll pretty much be saving or breaking even. So, part of me thinks the DDP might be easier, but then I realize I can use the $200 gift card. I think that will be the factor for us... wing it this time, keep all receipts - and see how it goes!

We are a family of 5 with children 15, 12 and 7 (so basically 4 adults and 1 child the way Disneys sees things....).

No matter how I look at the DDP i cant get that to work if I compare our old "checkout bills" when paying OOP.

Even if we do a TS everyday (which we usually do) its seems that OOP is cheaper.....

Am I missing anything ?

Tom

PS ! Also noticed that the Platinum Dining package has a 25% discount now - but thats still just insanely expensive ??? .....ends up at more than 700$/day for us and it cant possibly be worth that.

Tom - where did you see the 25% discount? I am going to be adding on the DDP to our vacation for next week.

Where are you finding menus with prices? Is there a website besides allears that lists menus and prices?

Thanks!

Besides allears, wdwinfo also has the menus with prices here http://www.wdwinfo.com/wdwinfo/dining/diningmain.cfm
