I missed a hyena party- darn!

I'm playing with numbers... deals.. frequent flyer miles...dreaming of sunny and WARM... trying to decide if I want to commit to using my miles and what little mney I have.. hmmm hmm hmmm decisons, decisions.

Hubby is no help.
"I don't care what you do, as long as it has nothing to do with me going anywhere"

He also added for good measure that I "deserve to go do what you like to do" since I've been putting up with all the dialysis and household stuff.

Still thinking, can't decide.

Budget trip:

I have only enough miles to cover half the air fare
$150 w tax to fly in/out of LAX
(OR save the miles and pay $200 to fly in/out of SNA instead)

I still have a California ID to buy a socal select AP (shhhh)
$134
(which means I can only go during the week)

Found a cheap hotel (Super 8) and a code to take $50 off plus Expedia will send me a $50 visa gift card afterwards. (about $200 , not counting the bonus GC)

(OR I can bid about $40 a night for Priceline)

I plan to bring snacks and breakfast foods.
Have several GC for subway, need to check what I have in points to cash out for other freebie meals.

Looking at first week of March, I will miss the ladies trip for the most part as the activities are planned on the weekend. But that's fine, I like being solo.
No parade, no fireworks instead they have Fantasmic! every night, closing at 8 pm.

Just trying to decide. is it worth it???????? :scratchin

Just a quick hello before I head to bed. :)

DS4 is doing much better today. He still has a slight fever (just over 100) but was happy and busy as ever. My fever is down, too (just over 101), and DS8 is back in good health. :thumbsup2

DH, DS8 and I watched Prince Caspian this afternoon. DH asked DS4 if he wanted to go to bed because he looked very sleepy, but he insisted he wasn't tired. So he curled up under a blanket and leaned up against Daddy; he was asleep before the beginning credits finished. :rotfl:

So DS4 and I will walk DS8 to school in the morning, then dash off to my doc appointment together. That should be interesting! :lmao:

OK, off to bed. Good night!

Hi ladies!

It's Monday again, brand new week! We sent my ring to get fixed, they have no idea why the stone fell out because the claws are still there and they're undamaged so they'll replace it for free and check all the diamonds to make sure they're in there secure. YAY!

Tomorrow I get a hair cut and I have a doctor's appointment.

Which reminds me, I have a question for any ladies that wear glasses. I have to wear my glasses tomorrow and I've never worn glasses for a hair cut, do you take them off while it's being cut or how does that work? Do the glasses get in the way?

funnygarcia
01-26-2009, 12:43 PM
Ive stopped wearing my glasses, my sight is changing (the joys of aging.. did you know your eyeballs flatten as you age? If you start out as being near sighted.. chances are, as you grow older, you will become far sighted instead. Or both.. needing bifocals. UGH! )

When I did wear them, I took them off for haircuts. I think the bows and ear piece would be in the way. Plus they would get pieces of hair stuck to them anyway.

Kinda...

Kinda not.

I'm going Monday thru Friday only. Flying back to frozen land Friday afternoon.

Budget trip, cheap to buy a SoCal Select and avoid the blockout days (valid weekdays only). Plus the air fare costs more on the weekend.

This is just a nice little trip to get me out of a MN winter.

Other happy news...

Hubby counted out the days left of school (not counting weekends or spring break) he has 99 days left of teaching.
First day of summer break.. we plan to head to Vegas with the other teachers. :goodvibes

Hi Melody,

I just PM'd Stacie about the Segway Tour. I'm not sure what else I will be signing up for but I'd like to join some of the events planned. Do you know what activities or meals you will be joining?

Tomorrow I have 2 family friends visiting from out of the country. I plan to take them to DL and DCA some time during their stay. I'm not sure where else they would like to go but we might go to other amusement parks as well.

I hope I will get a chance to hang out with you on the ladies trip. :)

:rotfl: :rotfl: :lmao:

I wonder what people think when they see hubby's arm? :p Big time junkie, no closet necessary? :lmao: :lmao:

He has some bulging areas on his acess sites. When he used sharps and rotated sites he had a road map of scabs and infiltrates (bruising) from bad sticks. Too bad they didn't use buttonholes until recently (blunt needles same spot, same angle.. the skin heals around the site .. similar to a piercing) .

funnygarcia

oh yeah.. wanted to add.. I know what you mean. I bruise with every blood draw and they always manage to infiltrate the site (nicking the vein, allowing blood to seep under the surface) since they have to dig to find my teeny veins.

Cold packs might help the bruising resolve a little faster.

I was totally thinking about him yesterday while they were digging for blood.. I couldnt handle it. I am generally good with needles adn draws, even IVs.. I dont know what was up yesterday! Entertainment rate was only for two of the 4 nights. Not paying over $100 when I know I can get a 3 star for less (although further away). If I had everyone with me, then yes I would chose one of the walkable distance ones.. but by myself.. meh.. it doesn't matter as I will not be running back to the hotel mid day.

yeppers, plus I have a $50 of code and they offer a $50 gift card mailed after the stay.

I looked at Super 8 on Disneyland Drive, but I'm perplexed as to how you I am to walk from there to the Mickey and Friends trams. I looked at a google map and couldn't figure it out.. unless you walk thru a parking lot??

Also looking at Comfort Inn Maingate, near the convention center (I've walked it before or use ART).

Or stay further out at the Aryes Inn (either one, both look gorgeous!), but need to rely on their scheduled shuttle. (hmph.. don't like that).

Desert Inn and Suites is a tad more, lower cost on their own website .. no coupon deal.

And don't think I'm not a bit freaked by the fact that I'm flying into Orlando and completely bypassing WDW!!!!!!!! I was faced with a choice...I left Feb 3rd open so I could maybe, hopefully, probably go to WDW. But then my friend that now lives in FL was diagnosed with breast cancer. So now you can see my dilemma. Go visit her and give her the support and hug that she needs or go to WDW. The adult in me knows that I need to do the right thing...but the kid in me says dump her and go to WDW! I know if I mentioned it she would tell me to go to WDW, heck I have a feeling she would be right there with me...well maybe not. She has a walking disability and needs a wheelchair for long distances. The last time I was there she apparently had a little problem with my wheelchair driving in Epcot.:lmao:

Anyway, I need to be there for her. We go WAY back...we used to work together up in Bellevue twenty something years ago. She's moved all around the country but we've kept in touch. Now she lives about 2 hours away from my sister (of course the opposite way of WDW).

There was a super deal on Expedia for 40% off, plus I had a code for $50 off and will get a $50 gift card in the mail after the trip. Thank you slick deals! After coupon code and the gift card.. it's less than entertainment rate at HoJo's, plus a free real breakfast (eggs, sausage, hashbrowns, toast, cereal, etc. ). If I like it as much as Hojo's, it may become my new DL home.

posting so I can find it in the morning ;)

I booked my hotel, I'm all set.

I pondered and stressed about going really cheap or pay a bit more .. hubby gave me a stern look and said I had to go somewhere "nice".. one less thing for him to worry about me.

Awwwww, okey dokey.

I'm going here

Nice looking hotel Bernice. When I was there with DH we went on a little road trip and seen lots of very nice looking hotels between Angel Stadium and DL. I thought they were much nicer looking than most of the Good Neighbor hotels. :thumbsup2

Hello Hyenas,

-Bernice- Congrats on finding a hotel! :cool1:

-Alison- have fun on your trip! Take lots of pics! We want a full trip report when you get back! ;)

So our family friend and her daughter arrived at LAX awhile ago. My parents went to pick them up from the airport. Then my older sister is driving down tonight and she and some of my family members will go to Canada for a few days (just for fun). They asked if I wanted to go but I said no and I really need to be at work. I just trained one co-worker on one account I handle, in case I am not in the office.

I plan to take some time off next week so I can take them around to fun places (including DL and DCA where I will once again be reunited with my dole whip float! :teeth: ).

It's really windy outside but sunny. It's in the low 70's today. I hope you all are having a great day. :goodvibes:

huh.... quiet day around here. We went to Walmart today.. Bought some more onsies, and blankets. My bassinet is full of stuff, but I dont feel like I have enough. I ordered my groceries online this evening.. We have NO FOOD in the house. NONE. My freezer has a bag of frozen veggies in it, and that is all. :sad2: I just cant shop any more!! I was half dead after a 20 minute stroll around Walmart! Shoot. I forgot to order toilet paper.. and we are on our last roll. Good thing I buy the jumbo rolls. I am a total space cadet lately. :sad2:

I saw you guys talking about a bumbo seat a few weeks ago and had NO IDEA WTH that was! :rotfl:

The daycare we used to have used the boppy for the same purpose, I didn't even think of that, I thought it was just for nursing! And for once the baby can feed him/herself, lay them down inside the boppy and the boppy helps them hold the bottle tilted for feeding. I didn't need that since I nursed and had only one baby at a time, but they were pretty creative with having two staff members and 6 - 8 babies at a time. :)

I had no idea what one was either.. Until I started looking at the twin boards and such, and they said that Bumbos were very necessary! :confused3 WHo am I to go against the grain. ;) :lmao: I have a boppy.. Wont need it for nursing.. its to small for nursing two babies at once.

Have you done that football hold before? I tried it with Alex and the boppy because of the c-section, and I got the hang of it. But once I was able to have him in my lap, that was much easier. You will definitely want the boppy for doing that, otherwise your arms would really ache afterward. (Newborns nurse sooooo slooooowly!)

Yep. They make a bigger pillow for tandem nursing.. Or I will just use regular pillows. If I can even tandem nurse. Its really tricky from what I understand. I told dh that I am going to look into a good nursing class after they come, so I can have some help getting the hang of it. I dread the thought of nursing one forever... then the other... Oy. by the time I get the last one off to sleep.. time to start all over again. :sad2:

I think Ds8 had trouble keeping his seal going for good suction, so just as soon as he'd get in a groove he'd lose it; then I'd have to use both hands to try to get him latched on again, one hand to hold his head and the other to position him right. Oy, the memories! I felt like such a moron! Animals in the wild could figure this out, but I was having trouble! :lmao:

I didnt do well nursing Alex. His dad kept telling me I was stupid for trying, and how on earth did I think I could feed HIS kid without making formula for him. :sad2: Jerk. I used to secretly wish for twins. For one thing, I always thought twins were cool! Also, as an older woman of childbearing years who already had fertility issues, I thought it would be great to get a two-fer, since there might not be another chance. :rotfl:

But oh my lord, DH would have had a heart attack! He lived in fear of twins, even though neither of us had any family history of twins. :lmao:

Oh man. I remember that first year with DS8. There's just no way anyone can tell you what to expect. I have never been so absolutely so tired I couldn't even think straight. And the hormone rollercoaster! When I was at work all I could think about was the baby, and when I was with the baby I was stressing out about work. I pumped ("expressed") while i was at work, but it just wasn't the same as the baby, so I had trouble making enough milk, so they told me to pump longer and more often, and nurse him every chance I could when we were home. So even once he was sleeping through the night, I still had to get up and pump. And all I wanted to do for that first year was sleep. :faint:

I know it. Dh said that if truly gets to be to much for me to handle.. We are going to formula. He is only concerned about one thing. Me. It made me laugh, because I am sitting here worrying about everything. From Alex and mikalah, and the bills, and the babies.. and just totally stressing about everything.. I look at him and ask.. Dont you have any concerns? Aret you worried about anything?? He looked at me and said.. You. He is so freaked that something is going to happen to me, or tha ti will end up with PPD, or something. He even talked to my dr about what to look for when it comes to PPD.

people would tell me they had the best time on a cruise, and all the activities and fabulous food. In fact, one gal I worked with was surprised with a Disney cruise, I think it was in 2004 or 2005. They didn't have kids, so it was just the two of them going, and she said it was the best time! I had heard other people talk about cruises to Alaska, Hawaii, Mexico, the Caribbean...

But yeah, even without all the entertainment and food, just to sit by the pool with a fruity drink and not have somebody pulling on your arm, "Mommy? Mommy? Mommy!" That would be lovely. ;)

She called and told dh she had some baby clothes she wanted to drop off. Okay!:cool1: She gets here and hands me this bag full of really old smelly sleepers. :confused3 The whole bag smelled like rubbish! I have NO PROBLEM getting used stuff. Not an issue. We have a bunch of used stuff, and we are most grateful to get whatever.. You know? But GEEZ. Please dont dig through the nieghbors rubbish bins and pull out the baby clothes that werent even fit for the goodwill. It was bad. REALLY bad. After they left I caled Dh over to check them out.. because of what he does, and the stuff he is around.. he has almost no sense of smell. Even HE jerked back and said.. OMG. GROSS. :confused3 I dont know.. It was just weird. Now I dont know what to do with it. Besides wash it, of course. I guess if we can get rid of the smell.. But there is no way to get rid of the stains and holes.

I fell asleep in front of the TV last night, woke just in time for the end of the show I was watching, then got caught up in another show that started at 11. (It was on Ch. 9, basically a documentary on a guy photographing junkie hookers in the red light district of Vancouver BC. I know, it sounds like an odd topic, but it was very compelling, well done, and the women were so honest and emotionally raw, I couldn't turn it off.) And once in bed I couldn't fall asleep, thinking about how sad these women were, and wondering whatever happened to them. :(

Anyway, so I should scoot off to bed, I was a little rundown today.

I hope you get some decent sleep tonight, too. :cloud9:

Yeah, best to just zip it and get out (or get them out) at the earliest opportunity. One of my brothers is a bit of a kook, so I just try to hold my tongue when he goes off on a rant about something. Anything I say isn't going to change his opinion, so why waste the breath?

Mmmhhhhhhmmm.. I saw that earlier. Fine by me.
They're proposing Sat. or Tues, because these days have the lightest volume. I don't know... I remember in banking how many late charges were assessed because of weekends. And a sat. or tues. means there would be times when there was no mail delivery three days in a row! (Most holidays are on Mondays)

Ooh my. :rotfl:

Yeah, best to just zip it and get out (or get them out) at the earliest opportunity. One of my brothers is a bit of a kook, so I just try to hold my tongue when he goes off on a rant about something. Anything I say isn't going to change his opinion, so why waste the breath?

They're proposing Sat. or Tues, because these days have the lightest volume. I don't know... I remember in banking how many late charges were assessed because of weekends. And a sat. or tues. means there would be times when there was no mail delivery three days in a row! (Most holidays are on Mondays)

Ack! Ted Haggard on Nightline. Must... not... watch! :sad2:

:rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2: A bit of a kook. I like that! It is so much nicer then saying they are total nut jobs. :goodvibes It was an okay visit overall... I only wanted to punch her in the face three or four times.

I was just watching the news and they were interviewing a Boeing worker.. He said that they are SUPER busy, and they wont be laying off anyone one on the line anytime soon. So... good news that Boeing is super busy. Cant wait until the release that work out dh's shop.. Unfortunately.. It is going to happen right when the babies are born. So they are going to start mandatory overtime right when I need him home. :rotfl2: Oh well. I would rather him have a good paying job with good benefits and go a little crazy here at home for a while... then deal with him being unemployed and looking for a job right now. :thumbsup2

But there is no way to get rid of the stains and holes.Ewwww!:crazy2:

:sad2: She is nutty sometimes. Drives me batty!

OMG. Speaking of CRAZY FAMILY.. My mil came by today.. :crazy2:Uh oh!!:faint:

people would tell me they had the best time on a cruise, and all the activities and fabulous food.

Mommy? Mommy!" That would be lovely. ;)It is!!! :goodvibes

THere are so many things to do!! I dont think you are just on the ship for days on end.. My mom did different excursions almost everyday on hers. And just to be able to relax.. sit by the pool.. drink something fruity.. Not have to chase anyone around, or be on constant alert. HEAVEN!!:rotfl2:::yes::

Man. I used to wonder why people would want to go on a cruise. Being cooped up on open water for days on end, I just didn't get it.

Now that I have children... I get it. :rotfl2:::yes::

I nursed bothte boys, J for only 4 months. N until he was 11 months, lost interest and by that time could drink from a sippy cup.. he never had a bottle, wouldn't take one lil grumpy bear.

The first weeks are the hardest, awkward to get a hang of holding and getting a good latch. I got umm chapped and sore with N  Made a bigger effort to get him to latch correctly, used cloth pads and air drying :rolleyes2 ahhh the joys of motherhood.

Schedule a lactation consultant before the babes arrive. They do home visits. Insurance might cover it, you never know until you ask :thumbsup2

Sis gave up after a few months home with the lil guy. In her case she pumped while he was still in NICU. At home she nursed and still had to bottle feed using pumped milk mixed with formula to bump up the calories. It was a grueling schedule of pump, nurse, bottle, pump, nurse, bottle... I don't blame her for not doing it for very long.

Oh yeah.. and wanting to cruise.. hmm I dunno ..

Then again, my kids don't bug me now. :lmao: :lmao: :rotfl: :rotfl2:

As for the stained clothing from MIL ...... that's just weird!

If you want to try salvaging the good pieces, no holes/ tears just stained. Try this from Tightwad Gazette:

To get stains out, add one cup each powdered Cascade and Clorox II to a bucket of super hot water. Soak as many pieces of clothing that will fit. Leave them overnight and wash as usual the next day. Do not use this method for fabrics that are not color-fast or are delicate.

Yep, cascade as in dishwasher detergent and the powdered bleach.

Good Morning hyenas,

It's windy windy windy outside! http://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa258/BirdGirl1980/Smiley%20Time/wind.gif

So my family left for Canada early this morning. My sisters were both text messaging from the airport saying "haha, you are at work!" :sad2: My mom had asked me last week if I wanted to go with them but I said no. They went with the family friends. My brother has school and tests and couldn't go with them. I'm planning to take some time off next week. They told me last night that they want to go to Camarillo Outlet. :rotfl:

Hope you guys have a great day! :goodvibes:

Soooo... we bought dh a bunch of jeans yesterday.. They didnt fit. We went to Target to get some different ones.. The size up.. didnt fit. We had to go to the NEXT size, and loose fitting jeans at that. Poor guy. He blames my pregnancy. :rotfl2: :rotfl2: I blame the video games!:lmao: We have been eating out a lot more lately, since I am to fat to fit in the kitchen. :rotfl2:

I used the scooter at Target today, and it was WONDERFUL. I was zipping all over the place! We bought Mikalah a big ole honking Barbie boat thing that was onl clearance. I figure we can give it to her next year for Christmas or something. I dont know. But it was originally $60, and marked down to $15. So we HAD to get it!

We also bought a HUGE JUMBO thing of wipes that were clearanced out. I think we only paid $13 for it? But it is a massive box. We finally got a baby tub.. its pink though. Dh is like.. SO!! I dont think they are going to care!:lmao: I KNOW!! It just doesnt seem right. What else?? Ummmm... Oh yeah!! We go the babies some matching denim outfits. The girl a little dress, and the boy some overalls. TOO CUTE! We are going to get Mikalah a denim dress, and Alex some overalls and do a picture of all 4 kids dressed up.

We were looking for little swim suits, but Target doesnt sell them. The smallest size they have is 12 months. That does me NO good! We got Mikalah a new suit, and we are taking Alex shopping this weekend for his stuff.Target also had these really cute little baby fake crocs. SO CUTE!! We didnt get them... I restrained myself. Barely. :rotfl2:

Now I need to find a place that sells Moby Wraps, and Maya Slings that wont set me back a ridiculous amount of money. I hate to spend that much, and not know if I like them. Especially since I need two slings..

OH!! I finally remembered to buy toilet paper. :rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2: Now.. that was my novel.

Hi Dizzy! I have been wondering how you've been!

Staley- I'm glad your DH showed you how to work ebay ;) Ebay is awesome and you could find some cool stuff on there at times :yay:

Ebay has a new feature where only the seller could see who is bidding. When other ebay members try to see it, it will show xxxxx in part of their screen names. It's because there have been a lot of SPAM and fake ebay e-mails being sent to ebay members. This way it helps to prevent that from happening. So far it's worked because I stopped getting those horrid e-mails.

So how is everyone's day so far?

I haven't figured out what to have yet. I have some hamburger I could cook up... Bought it Sunday, is it still OK?

Otherwise we have a ton of leftovers; my neighbor-friend and I went to a Lebanese restaurant yesterday, and DH had me pick up extra stuff to bring home. So we have leftover grilled chicken and rice, leftover garlic chicken wings and rice, some babajanoush and hummus and pita. Tons, actually! But the boys only like the pita and saffron rice, nothing else. :sad2:

Right now, not much. There are not too many outdoor activities this time of the year. Both kids did play soccer in the fall, and really enjoyed it. In the spring they will both do t-ball, probably swimming in the summer and then soccer again.

They do all right with it for now. Alecia has a ton of homework every night - and even Alec has a bunch too. They still run around a ton outside - but now that you mention it I probably need to get them a bit more active (Alec is no longer a "slim" :rotfl2: )

He is!!! Still making excellent grades - and improving every day on his writing and speech. They have a board outside the classroom and every month they write a sentence (themed to the month). The first couple of months, oh my, I had to look at the other kids to decipher what he was writing (it was ok, he was still learning). Today - I think his writing was one of the best in the class!!!

He is still getting speech every day (that never would have happened in Gilbert) and his teachers love him in class.

Even stranger - he constantly has kids coming up to him at school to say hi and talk to him - so even the social skills exist.

Next week I sign DS4 up for kindergarten. All along I've planned to sign him up for full-day, but now I'm second-guessing myself. I really like the half-day teacher, the full-day teacher I just don't click with. I think that teacher is probably fine, but nothing really stands out, you know? The half-day teacher just exudes warmth and kindness and humor.

But the neighbor-kid I've talked about before who is like "DS4 on steroids"? He'll be in the half-day program, and I definitely wouldn't want them in the same class, that would be a nightmare! :scared1:

I think DS would do well in the all-day, as he's doing well in the half-day preschool right now. So maybe I should just stick with the original plan? I was sooo ready to get him into the all-day program, and now that it's actually coming up I'm missing him already. :sad1:

I actually went to the store to buy hamburger - had this wild idea to cook dinner for the kids :rotfl2: . It was kind of weird - I am usually out of the house at least 3 nights if not 4. We had sloppy joes - and I think I underestimated how much my nephew liked them :lmao: :lmao: :lmao:
Oh man, when I was a kid Sloppy Joes was my favorite meal! On our birthday my mom let us pick the menu for dinner, and I always chose Sloppy Joes. She probably LOVED that. :rotfl2:

:sad1:

That is a tough one. I know we changed our mind over the summer. We had Alec enrolled in 1/2 day (we actually did this to guarantee he would get the teacher that he did), but then he did so good over the summer we went with full day (still the same teacher). I definitely am glad we did what we did - as the extra reinforcement has been great for him. Really that is all that it is - all the curriculum is in the beginning of the day, but for us we wanted Alec to get the extra reinforcement, as well as more chances to work on his social skills.

The crazy thing is I think this might be the last year for full day kindergarten in Arizona (poor Shawna, will all the troubles she went through). We are in a massive budget crisis, and they have figured out if they eliminate it completely they would be a lot better off. :confused3

That is so awesome! :thumbsup2

Has his behavior changed as he's gotten better at communicating? How does he react to the other kids chatting away with him?

DS8 was in an awesome daycare/preschool program, and was very popular and confident. All the little kids used to swarm him when he got to school, it was bizarre and hilarious at the same time! :lmao:

All that changed when he moved to kindergarten. I'm not sure if it was the new setting, new teacher, new kids, or the fact that there were a couple bullyish kids in class, or what exactly. Suddenly he turned shy and kept saying he hated school, it was heartbreaking. He's still a bit shy, but a bit more confident now.

I honestly think that's part of why I am worried about DS4, it would kill me to see his personality and enthusiasm crushed. :(

His behavior has definitely gotten better - still not stellar, but better.

He does fine with the other kids talking to him - he eats up the attention. I was very shocked - I really didn't know how all the kids would react to him with such a severe speech delay.

That is very sad what happened to your DS8 - what a rough transition. Hopefully your DS4 will have a better time. I really have not seen a mean kid in kindergarten - that is so sad :sad1:

How ironic! I know Shawna didn't have a choice with her son. We have more interest in the full-day than there are seats for the class, so you sign up and get chosen by lottery. If you get chosen, you have to pay an extra amount to cover the expense of the longer day.

Last winter when I signed DS4 up for the fall preschool, he was still napping, and his teacher said he was definitely tired by the end of the morning session. No brainer to sign up for half days again. But since then he's given up naps, at least most days. (When the snow was here for several weeks and we were out sledding every afternoon, he'd crash in the late afternoon.)

I think he'll be ready for full day. I worry that my reluctance now is because of my own emotions about missing him, or because I don't click with the one teacher. (Those aren't really valid reasons in my mind for making this decision.) :confused3

It is crazy how different states handle it. The first year that we went to 1 full day class (DD's first year) they had a ton of interest and did a lottery. The really stupid thing though is they had a bunch of kids signed up in an after care program - basically the parents were paying for daycare so that school lasted a full day. Our stupid state (no wonder we are in such a crisis) decided to put all those kids in the full day first - and not charge them the money they were already planning on paying. This left 3 or so spots - with a ton of kids signed up for the lottery.

Alec actually has nap time in full day kindergarten - he takes a towel every Monday and they do a nap/quiet time.

I would definitely do what seems right to you - believe me we struggled with the decision - and went back and forth with it. We were actually lucky that it all worked out like it did.

We're not supposed to have it that often due to DH's heart. We need to eat more chicken and fish, but DH doesn't like the smell of cooked fish in the house, so we only do fish in the summer on the grill. Therefore that means a LOT of chicken.

So I need lots of good chicken recipes! I got two turkey hams when Safeway had their big meat sale a few weeks ago, thinking it was a great alternative for DH. Then on Oprah one day this week there was a guy who's written a book about making healthier food choices, and one of his comparisons was:

regular bacon and eggs, or turkey bacon and eggs?

I was stunned when they said they both had the same amount of fat and cholesterol, but the sodium in the turkey bacon was through the roof! "And," the author added, "why would you want to turn a turkey into a pig?" Because we morons thought it would be healthier!!! :lmao:

Oooo, fajitas sound good, too. I saw a recipe for shredded chicken (tacos? enchiladas?) Anyway, it involved slow-cooking a whole chicken, then taking it out and using a fork to shred it off the bone. Then you add seasonings for the taco flavoring, and apparently it comes out really moist and yummy. Will have to try that sometime, it sounded really good.

Same goes for ground turkey. Some brands have added fat and skin that boosts up the fat content to equal the higher fat variety of ground beef. Always check the label!

Something I do is to use smaller amounts of beef and stretch it with grains and vegetables. Lowers the fat content, increases the fiber, makes the meat stretch further. Less money spent on meat. :thumbsup2

Baby things are mostly seasonal (Halloween, snow/ christmas), didn't look at kid's clothing.

At least we have final confirmation that a little kid at the kids school is indeed a boy. He was in Alec's preschool class, and last year I commented to DH something referring to that "little girl". He corrected me, and I sort of believed him. DN had the same problem when he moved up here. Today though, we saw him watering a tree on the way to school :thumbsup2 I don't know any little girls that could have pulled that off :lmao: :lmao: :lmao:

I always search for coupons - but I don't have a BBW so it is online for me. This coupon is good through 3/1 if you want it, but it does require a $10 purchase.
:grouphug: You poor unfortunate soul.. have I mentioned that I love shopping?

hmm, I have it my email already thanks. :goodvibes

I really enjoy shopping too - hence why we have had 4 visits this week from delivery drivers. I do my part to keep UPS in business :thumbsup2 :rotfl2:

I've come across gender questionable in looks children too. Student teaching in a preschool class and one of the teachers made me aware that the child with braided hair playing in housekeeping (wearing a dress and pumps) was a boy.. and mom didn't like him playing dress up.

oooooooooooooooooooo OOPS!

:thumbsup2 :rotfl: Hey at least it's fun stuff from UPS..

I get several deliveries a month from UPS and a courier service. Upon which I moan and cry- where the heck am I to put this!

Nothing fun, it's dialysis supplies. :p

There's one UPS guy that doesn't mind hauling up to third floor, another that doesn't even try to deliver. He marks it that we aren't home GRRR, the other guy brings it the next day.
I had one lazy courier driver dump 20 boxes in our tiny lobby .. and LEFT! I just wanted to  becuase I know our manager would have a fit to see that much in the entrance way. I mentioned to another driver, he said they are suppose to deliver it to our apt.

oh yes.. and the mom is the one that braided his hair - corn rows (African American). I think it would have been less of an issue if she cut it short.

The little boy has beautiful blonde hair, nearly all the way to his behind.

Wow - I have had a few problems - but nothing that major.

One was in our favor - I ordered steaks from Omaha (I had free money from discover for them), and they did not arrive - and the computer listed that they were delivered. I called, and got new ones shipped. The next morning, somebody brought me my steaks (they brought to the wrong house) - but it is so cold here, they were still perfectly frozen :thumbsup2

I am lucky though UPS still comes. DN was home one day, and in the shower. DS sees the truck, and goes screaming to DN, freaking out (not really able to say UPS guy is at the door) - so DN goes running out of the house in a towel - he grabbed my package and quickly ran back inside :lmao: :lmao: :lmao:

We had a plumber tell us all the weird things he finds when snaking people's toilets. He got to add toy telephone to his list, thanks to Noah. :rolleyes2
