Got my blood test results today from my physical. I'm very happy because my iron levels are back to normal, all of my white and red blood counts, etc. are all looking back to normal for the first time since chemo.:cheer2:
My urea nitrogen (bun) was low 3.3. My cholesterol was high, 201, so not too bad, only high by 1 point. I think I told you already my Vitamin D level was really low. Normal is 30-150 and I was 24.
That's great!
Are they concerned about the Vitamin D level?
Calcium absorption and the risks of osteoporosis...
E needs to get a bone scan done again, he had one as part of a research study recently.. but I don't think the results ae shared with his docs.
He had some good density in the crucial areas, yet he still breaks bones easily.

So I wonder if my low BUN levels are due to the chemo causing liver damage? The doctor didn't say anything, so he's obviously not worried.:confused3
Low is not as much of a concern as a high BUN (indicates kidney failure).
Maybe because you have no other active signs of liver damage, it's more of a wait and watch position.

Oh, thought I had told you. The doctor called me as soon as he got the results and gave me a prescription for Vitamin D. I was taking a multi vitamin with 500iu of D and two extra Vitamin D's that each had 500 iu's, so I was taking a total of 1,500 iu of D per day. He gave me a prescription for a Vitamin D pill that I take once a week, it is 50,000 iu's of Vitamin D. No that was not a typo, it's 50,000 iu's!
There have been lots of studies regarding cancer and vitamins. Several studies have come out this year and they found that most women that were diagnosed with breast cancer had extremely low Vitamin D levels. So my oncologist had me taking Vitamin D as a precaution. But obviously it wasn't working. In addition to helping the bones, it apparently has a role in cell division and something about being able to stop blood flow to tumors.
I have been searching for why I ended up getting breast cancer and I now think that may have been at least partially the reason. My doctor said that with Vitamin D levels that low it could have played a hand in why the tumor grew so large, so quickly.

I need to quit reading these tests results. I get myself all freaked out. I start thinking liver, ok that's where breast cancer metastasises (or however you spell that word):rotfl: . I just need to chill and not worry about it too much. I know that the liver does get damaged a bit during chemo, so it's probably expected to be low.

hmm, interesting.
Research shows us more each year about adequate nutrition and the need for supplements dependent on a person's life stage.
My sis had muliple miscarriages with no known cause, then she had a pregnancy with anencaphalic baby (no brain). Her doc decided that the prior miscarriages were likely due to neuro tube defects and put her on extra folic acid.
Of course, still not sure why she has one child with dyslexia, one with autism and one with development delays (possible autism, mabe something else instead).

I'll never forget my bone scan. I could see the display screen from where I was laying on the table and all sorts of twinkling lights on the computer screen in the shape of my skeleton. I was totally convinced that my bones were filled with cancer because of all the lights. :rotfl2:

I've been taking multi vitamins each day every since I was diagnosed, just to be on the safe side. I really do think that nutrition plays a much larger role in our bodies then most people think.
I'm willing to do whatever it takes to get my Vitamin D levels up. Including heading to someplace warm & sunny once a month in the winter time.;)

I worked with an older lady who tended to freak about every little thing.
She was a wreck, freaking out over what is done in a bone scan. I was like.. what the heck is your problem??? You lay there, it scans, you look at your bones. Less work than an x ray.
She came back afterwards and laughed .. you were right, it was so simple. :lmao: :lmao:

I love when the docs don't tell you what to expect. In hubby's case.. no one told him they used stents to keep the ureters open in the transplant. Stents that had to be removed.
Not surgically removed either.
He was not happy!
The nurse said " we don't tell people, because we know that it would be a deterance to getting a transplant"

Went to Target today.. Of course all the clearance stuff was picked over. Not that it mattered, after about 5 minutes I felt like I was going to eat tile again. :sad2: ANYHOW!! We bought some diapers... and wipes.. and some onsies.. Im starting to feel ready!! Almost. We got home and went through the clothes and stuff we have, sorted, cut off tags and whatnot. Rolled out the bassinet so the babies have a place to sleep in the living room.
Frelan took the car seats out to the van so we could figure out where to put them, and make sure we had everything set in place for when they do come. DANG. It was something looking at the van and seeing 4 car seats. :faint: WAY freaky.
Other then that I was lazy all day.. Laid on the sofa drinking my orange juice and eating tacos. I have drank more orange juice lately then I have in the past 7 years. Its bizarre. I had to stop drinking it when I was pregnant with Alex because it gave me killer heartburn.. Havent been able to drink it since. Now?? I'm not sick, actually I'm very healthy. I just had breast cancer 2-1/2 years ago, went thru left mastectomy, chemo, radiation and reconstruction. It's strange because I felt healthy when I was diagnosed and then worse after they got done with me!:crazy2: Unfortunately the treatment leaves you with lots of long-term side effects. Chemo especially is very hard on your body...but what are you going to do, of course you accept treatment so you can live. Your hair grows back and everyone thinks you are back to normal, unfortunately that's not the case. Lots of long term side effects that take several years to resolve. But overall I'm doing very well and I plan on being around for many, many years to come!:thumbsup2
I used to rearrange furniture for fun. To me the house isn't clean unless you can move the furniture every once in a while. I too have scoliosis, but I now have a life long 25 pound lifting restriction (due to my reconstruction surgery). So I push the furniture around with my thighs instead of lifting it. Actually my scoliosis is the cause of my crooked belly button!:rotfl: When they did my reconstruction and had to create a new belly button they made it even with my midpoint on my nose...which happens to be about an inch off from my midpoint of my crotch. Result, it looks like my new belly button is about an inch off.:rotfl2:
Hold it, you clip coupons, rearrange furniture for fun, have scoliosis...are you sure we aren't long lost twins??:lmao:

My DS (10) is playing on a 5th & 6th grade community school basketball team. Today they played a team that has apparently been together since 2nd grade. The dad even built a gym at his house so they could practice in year round. They play in tournaments. Final score was 32 to 21, so our boys did pretty good considering what they were up against. I guess the community school has been pretty upset that this team signs up every year...they are just using the rest of the teams for their practice. The team they played last week couldn't even score, the first quarter was 30 to 0. I guess they were almost 90 to 0 as the final score. That just doesn't seem right. This is supposed to be a fun/learning type of league and many of the boys have never played before. It's kind of tough on some of the boys..it would be like letting our husband's play against an NBA team.

Our coaches are a 17yo high school kid and 18yo that graduated last year. They know basketball, but are pretty inexperienced at coaching. But they are both trying very hard. Sometimes some of the dad's go out and help them out, trying not to step on their toes. But I think sometimes it takes a parent to know when the kids aren't really understanding things.
The coaches didn't tell them anything beforehand, but afterwards told them how good they did and that basically that other team was a professional kids team with years of experience. So I think they all felt pretty good about it.
The team they played last week they were pretty evenly matched up with and I understand most of the other teams are as well. But boy I have to say they kept our team running!

I think it's been a cold winter for a lot of the country this year. We didn't have much of a summer, but our fall was pretty nice. The winter has been pretty rainy and then snowy and quite a bit colder than normal. Usually we tend to be 45 and raining in the winter. Elk meat pretty much tastes like beef, it just has way less fat. We also add beef suet to our hamburger, so it really tastes like regular hamburger. I'm not real crazy about venison, but elk doesn't have that real gamey taste like deer meat.

Great, the meat is defrosted in the microwave and the floor is still wet in the kitchen. Seems I've waxed our dinner in...oh well another 20 minutes or so and it should be dry. Either that or I can do a balancing act and try to walk the kitchen cabinets to reach the microwave.:rotfl2:

Well... my mom called this morning, and she is at my Grandmas this weekend. So we ran over there for a bit. The kids got to play, and my mom got to see my gigantorness. :rotfl2: We discussed the hospital and what will be going on, and what to expect delivery wise and such.
She is closing on her house next week, so the month of Feb. should be nice and hectic for her. Ill probably go into labor the day her furniture shows up!:rotfl2:

Hello Hyenas,
Yesterday I watched Mall Cop with my bf. It was okay, some parts were funny. We went to Fry's and then to the mall. There is a Japanese store I like that had a sale. I got some cool pens and pencils and a Tarepanda pouch all for $4. :cheer2: I relaly like the Japanese pens and mechanical pencils they well and normally they are at least $1.99/EA so this was a real bargain. While I was paying, this random kid went up to me and asked for a quarter. I said..."umm...okay" and handed him a quarter. My bf asked what that was about and I said I had no idea. We went to Game Stop and I bought Assasin's Creed for PC and my bf got this '08 NBA collection of games. It has basketball, hockey, soccer and golf on it.
We are sort of chilling out at home today. It's very windy outside so maybe we'll go out a bit later (I need to do a Target run). My bf is currently watching The Grudge on TV and I am staying as far away from seeing that as possible. :scared: :scared: :scared: :faint:

I've been contemplating over the ladies only trip coming up. I'm not sure if I will be able to go. We have a new policy on vacation time. In the past, the longer you are at the company, the more vacation days you have. If you didn't take all the vacation days then it could rollover towards the next year I believe. Anyway, I think the management and HR grew tired of people taking long vacations and now everyone only has 1 week. So all the past vacation days people had leftover are extinct.

I'm not sure what to do....I'd like to go and meet new people. :( Next week a family friend and her daughter are coming down and staying here for 2 weeks. They were the ones who took us to some cool spots on my Taiwan trip 2 years ago. They definitely want me to take them to DL and DCA which is no problem, but I'll have to take vacation time.

I know...it's a real bummer but an example is that our receptionist has been at the company the longest. She kept taking so much vacation time and it was difficult for us to answer the phones. Our sales dept is so busy and hectic as it is. She would also announce that she was taking days off at the last minute, which upset the managers.
We also only get 2 sick days and 1 personal day. We had problems with attendance last year.
Hmm...that's true about joining the ladies trip on the weekend. That's also the date of the Segway tour, which I really want to do.

We generally do Monster Jam, but couldnt afford to spend the money, and DH was a little freaked at the idea of taking both kids by himself.. So we will go next year. Im glad we skipped it, because the show we were going to go to was the one where the truck broke, and hit that poor kid in the head and killed him. :guilty: Total freak accident, but how awful to have been there.

One more MN casino conquered. :thumbsup2
Came home, hubby dialyzed and we basically have lounged around for the rest of the day.
I was so happy to shower and not smell smoke in my hair, on my skin, on my clothes :crazy2: yuck! There was just no way to avoid it.. we had to walk thru the gaming floor to get to the restaurants.
But hubby had fun, I had fun until I lost my "big" winnings on penny slots :rotfl: I told hubby that slot machines are basically video games for grown ups with betting as an incentive to plunk in more cash. Video Arcades are the training ground for the next generation of gamblers. :lmao:
It was interesting to see the number of senior citizens playing, then again it was out in lake country-- not much else to do in the middle of a MN winter (except snowmobile or ice fishing).
J made the comment "old people must be rich".
Told him NO , they don't need to spend their money on the likes of YOU and your brother. No teenagers to feed, clothe, school and entertain .. more money in the pocket to spend. Some day E and I will join those "must be rich" people. :p

Yes. I know. But they are bigger than a regular room, and we need that. Plus it has a little kitchen.. and I like that. A lot. We HAVE to have breakfast in the mornings before we get going, and that is what gets us on vacations. Our other choice for something like that, are the Villas, and those are more expensive.

Wasn't that horrible. I think they said it was some parts that went flying off the truck. There was supposed to be a safety system, but it apparently failed. Even at the Supercross they have certain sections that they put banners over and no one is allowed to sit there in case of flying motorcycles.

There isnt. I wouldnt let that stop him from taking the boys though. It is a FREAK accident. I have done some checking, and never, in 25 years, has something like this happened! It is VERY scary, and I am so very sad for that family. They have the lower levels blocked off so you cant sit in them..
They are saying that next year there might be a barrier though.

not really, i'm afraid. my neighbor friend and her dds left town last thursday to visit her mom, and the boys were moping around. today i decided to do something fun, so i suggested red robin for lunch and hitting up a park of their choice.
ds8 said, 'ok, but it sure would be more fun if we could go with some friends....' i said we could call my neighbor, but i was pretty sure they weren't home yet.
so i called and her youngest dd answered the phone! she said they'd just gotten home 45 minutes before i called, and that they were just discussing where to go out to lunch. [cue twilight zone music!]
so we all went to red robin, and then to a cool park that we don't go to very often. the kids chased each other the whole time, it was awesome! got home having burned off a lot of energy, sweet! :lmao:

I got mine last week but my parents have to do our taxes (due to stocks). They also normally wait until the last minute because they travel so much. They hire a CPA to do our taxes for us. My bf usually goes to H&R Block and he gets his tax refund back quickly.

I bought a cute Hello Kitty shoulder tote from ebay. :yay:
I'm eating chips and salsa that I bought from Costco last night. It was funny waiting in the checkout line there. Everyone has these huge carts filled to the rim with food and then my cart has 3 or 4 items only. :rotfl: I bought Jack's Famous Salsa and it tastes really yummy! It's not spicy and it's really good. You guys should try it. :)

Dh got his W-2 this morning!:cool1: :cool1: I was all bleary eyed trying to get the taxes done this morning... Good thing our taxes are about as simple as they come. Otherwise I might still be working on it! hopefully I did it right.
I do my own too. E-File, and direct deposit and I get my $ quick. It's going towards my DL tip in March (the Ladies Only Trip).
:offtopic: Is Havarti (sp) a type of cheese of a type of bread? I thought it was cheese but there was no cheese in the sandwich I got from Target at lunch but the wrapper said Turkey and Havarti. So then I was thinking it was a type of bread. Oh and I just wanted to use that smilie. I don't think we have a "topic" here. :rotfl:

Hi Ladies!!
I'm back, and tired of course. Got home last night and had to leave right away to practice singing for a funeral that was held today. Was too tired to get on after that.
This mornig got up, went to the funeral, and then went to my Mom's to see how she was doing. My brother is visiting her right now.
Hope you all are fine!!

Don't you hate it when your order is missing something? :sad2: The other night I ordered food from Island's online. They barely put any guacamole in my bf's burger and it was a very miniscule amount (he thought they had forgot to put it in because he didn't taste it until the very end). Plus, they forgot to give us ranch for chicken fingers.

I'm doing fine, not much new and exciting going on. I've been really busy at work, trying to get everything done before I leave, so I haven't been on a lot during the day.
Sorry Alison - but your avatar thing is totally creeping me out. Not the avatar in general - but I am having big time trouble figuring out who you are :lmao:

okay. This is way to much info for you all.. But guess what? Im gonna tell you anyhow. :lmao: I feel like my crotch is going to split open, and these babies are going to FALL OUT. :crazy2: But only when I stand up. SO I dont do that much. I have been feeling really good lately... But I suspect its been because I never get off my butt anymore. :lmao: I have so much pressure in my girly bits, and everytime I stand up.. I have to pee. Even if I just peed 5 minutes ago. AND.. We just got back from Popeyes Chicken. I didnt fit in the booth. not even CLOSE. I tried, and started having tummy cramps from being all smushed in. So embarrassing.

Hi Gina. Sorry you are not feeling well. I haven't been on much lately - but I do definitely try to pop on once in awhile to keep up. So welcome to the group, but don't be too offended if I don't really like you until after the Super Bowl :snooty: :lmao: (and since you are new here I should probably mention that I am totally kidding)

Christina, just a quick message. When I had pinkeye (and I've had both kinds) and wore contact lenses, I had to toss the lenses and stop wearing them until the infection cleared. Otherwise you're just reintroducing the infection from your lenses back into your eye...
Not sure if you have the soft lenses like I did, or hard lenses that you can use the heat and/or chemical disinfection on, but you may want to check with your doc about that before you use them again.
Hope your eye heals up soon, I remember how miserable that is! :flower3:

I found a bag of old pictures. I found pictures of my DD when she was around 5. She's now 13. I'm scanning them into the computer so I have a backup. I'm going to scrapbook the ones I found.
I also have 148 pictures my dad picked up for me yesterday that I need to organize and start to pre plan pages for.
At least I'll be busy while I dont feel good today.

BIG EXCITING NEWS!!!
Okay. So nothing earth shattering, but I had a GREAT appointment today!!! First off.. Is it any wonder I feel like crap?? My babies weigh 3 and a half pounds EACH!!:cool1: :cool1: :cheer2: That is fantastic!! I already have 7 pounds of baby in my belly. :rotfl2: The doctor is LOVING those weights. She said that by 36 weeks they will EASILY be 6-7 pounds each! I gained NO weight over the past 3 weeks, and the doc was a little concerned, until she measured me. I went from measuring 33 weeks at my last appt. to 39 at this one!!:faint: At this rate, Im going to measure 60 weeks pregnant when the babies come!:rotfl2:
Baby A is still head down, and thankfully, that is the baby with the bigger head! She said that is awesome... they prefer the big headed babies to pave the way. :rotfl2: Baby B is breech again. :sad2: What can I say.. she is a girl, and just cant seem to make up her mind. So we are on track for a vag. delivery!!:cheer2: Who knew something like that would have me SO excited!!
Speaking of delivery. This was probably the highlight of my appt. We discussed delivery, and how it would go.. As long as everyone is healthy, and such.. WELL. I DONT have to deliver in the operating room, UNLESS they suspect something will go wrong with baby B. AND I dont have to have an epidural, but they DO suggest it, because a breech extraction can be very.. uncomfortable. :crazy2: Sounds like it!:rotfl2: Frelan said that sounds like Swat terminology.. Breech extraction. :rotfl2: Im sure that I will get the epi after a bit, But its nice to know they arent going to push it on me!
I am WICKED excited that there is a chance Alex might get to be there when the babies are born! He SO wants that! :cool1: :cool1:

staley-girl, sounds like you are all doing great! :cool1:
does alex know...uhhhhh, what to expect? has he seen puppies or kittens born? or watched one of those childbirth videos? i was watching this show last week (i forget the name of it, but the main character is sam, a living breathing incarnation of murphy's law, his wife is pregnant), and sam was all gung-ho to be in the delivery room with his wife until he watched a litter of pups birthed. :crazy2: :lmao:

:cool1: It was such a kick butt appointment!! Alex has seen some childbirth videos with me.. So he does know what to expect. If he gets freaked out or anything, we will have my mom there to take him out of the room.
We are starting to work on baby plans and such.. It seems so unreal. We are going to talk to the school tomorrow to work out with his teacher if dh calls, that she needs to have Alex ready for him to run and grab him..

We are shooting for 36 weeks. She said if I go into labor at 34 weeks, she wont stop it... but would prefer I wait until 36 weeks. But I doubt she will want me to stay pregnant any longer then that. I can just imagine being 38 weeks, with a couple of 8 and a half pounders. :scared: :lmao:
