I just read it. Overall I think I would like to be moved to the DL thread. Everybody over there always seemed so much friendlier, smaller community type of thing.
Not that I don't enjoy reading some of the crazy CB threads over here though. But since most of the Hyenas go to DL more often than WDW I think it would make more sense to be on the DL board.
I never seem to make it over there often, so it might be kind of nice to be there and keep up on more DL stuff since it will be nearby and convenient.

Did I mention how much fun we had at the All Star Music resort? WDW is really doing a lot of extra things to make stays more memorable. At the pool in the afternoons they had activity directors doing all sort of things with the kids...dance contests, games, etc...then in the evening they had surprise "Disney" cartoons/movies shown either outside (weather permitting) or inside of the food court seating area. Something I've never seen them do in the past.
Also extremely fast check in. They had extra people with wireless laptops coming to people standing in line and getting most of the check in work done before you reached the front desk.
Anyway, I'm guessing because business is down they are either trying to hold onto their customers by making sure everyone is treated great or they just now have more time to devote to guests. It was definitely very good treatment this time. :thumbsup2

not yet.. give it the weekend for all to get back on DIS... but I really odn't see why we wouldn't.
Just an FYI if you are curious where the heck it is.. because it doesn't show up on the entire DIS list, I was a little lost.
Click on DL board and then there is an extra slot at top of page for the DL community board. About time I say...

Justin went to log on to his facebook account today, they disabled his account!!
I keep a close eye on his profile page. He has never violated any terms, heck he barely posts anywhere. He uses it primarily to chat with his cousins. It's been really neat to see him developing this friendship, darn Facebook for screwing up his account!
If they don't reply to his email in a few days.. and reading the help section I see posts of similar problems, with no reply from support. Then I will have him create a new account (new email).
Very frustrating. :headache:

I found about 5 cute little outfits for Jazzy today at garage sales. Just have to wash them and pop them in the mail. Didn't find anything for Vinny. But that's ok, I'll hit some next weekend. All of the baby boy clothes were just totally trashed, really grungy looking.
Found a brand new cover for my car - $3. 3 pairs of jeans for me - $2 each. 1 pair for DD - $2. A cute Hawaiian shirt for DS, a giant teacup that I planted my overgrown begonia in, some little metal garden markers, oh a a really nice fire ring for the back yard - $5. All in all a great garage sale morning.
Came home and did about 5 hours of gardening....and oh my and I ever sore.:thumbsup2 But it's a good sore. I really dug in and worked. I can't lift heavy things but I felt like I was probably about 90% back. It was an awesome feeling to be able to do things again and have energy for several hours at a time.:thumbsup2

I know that I work with numbers all day long. But seriously people, can't anyone do simple addition in their heads anymore? Every single garage sale I went to I maybe 2-3 items and people were scratching their heads, grabbing calculators as I stood there calmly and added it in my head and told them the answer before they could finish punching buttons.
I'm not really that good at math, I'm good with organizing numbers. But math was never my strong skill. Boy these people must have been really bad at math!

Good Morning Hyenas! And a lovely morning it is. Sun is shining, just filled our bellies with pancakes, made sandwiches for DH & DD who are off to ride mx today. Apparently I tired DS out with too much yardwork yesterday, he decided not to ride and is snugged up on the couch with fuzzy blankie watching cartoons.:lmao:
Time to get my day started...need to go get a couple of new shovels, our regular shovel is on it's last leg (if shovels had legs) and we can't find our snub nose shovel.:confused3 Somehow I'm thinking we'll find it back in the woods, hauled there by DS and his cousins for one of their "projects".:rolleyes1 Also going to get some impatients for my whiskey barrel out front, need to get some fish fertilizer for all of my new plants and about 100 other projects that need to be done.
I was a bit stiff and sore this morning when I first woke up, but feeling pretty good right now. Forecast for today....74 freakin' degrees!!:dance3:

Okay.. my babies are going through a growth spurt. it was never noticeable with just one baby for me. But with two of them pounding down the milk every couple of hours.. GEEZ. Jazz went through so much milk yesterday...We were just waiting for her diaper to EXPLODE!! :lmao: I was up ALL NIGHT last night. Only to finally wake up Frelan and have him yell at me for not waking him up sooner! Dork. How hard is it to wake up when you have two babies screaming??
Yesterday we took the kids to the park for a picnic, and walked around the lake.. it was lovely! Then we went to the inlaws house.. yuck. but they were nice enough I guess. THen we came home, and dh and watched Transporter, Death Race, and Crank... If you can guess the theme, you get a prize!:lmao::lmao: Lets just say... hubba, hubba! :lmao:

I know my sis tried to sell off her 18 to 24 month sized... they wouldn't take it at our local Once Upon a Child (they buy used kid stuff/clothing). Something about no seperates for infant clothing.. when is 18 month considered infant?? Besides they sell seperates in the store.. grrr!
Anyway, I can see what she has for say 12 month .. well the seasons thing might be a problem.

You will find that some people swear by Ezzo and others are vehemently against the practices outlined in the book.
As with most parenting advice books, read it and choose the parts that work for you.
I did get J to sleep using some of the techniques in Babywise when he was 8 months old. At that time, the point of it was for him to learn to afall sleep without help..
With N we took a more child centered style..Dr Sears was in vogue at the time. He co-slept or was at bedside in a bassinette until he was 3 months old, eventually establishing a routine of a last feeding at 10 pm, 4 am feeding and then waking around 8 am ready for the day. But the daytime naps and getting him down to sleep was awful .. hence I loved him but didn't really LIKE him until he was sleeping better at three months old.
Even now, he has occasional sleep issues. I think it's just his temperament..very similar to E.
hmmm, Temperament, there's another philosophy for you to think about. Fiesty/Difficult/ Active
Slow to Warm Up/Cautious
Easy/Flexible
Having an easy child first and then more of a difficult child.. big changes in paretning styles and just coping!! Looking back, not sure if we would have two if J hadn't been an easy child. :lmao::lmao:

Hi Hyenas! Long time no talk.
I pm'd you, but only got one response, and I think majority rules. If you guys have discussed on this thread, I haven't seen it, so sorry if this is redundant. :)
We now have a Disneyland Community Board, and I wanted to touch base with you & ask you if you wanted your thread moved over there, or do you want to stay on the main CB?
Please let me know whatever you all decide. :flower:
And Rochelle - looks good! :thumbsup2

In the morning it was windy and then by noon it was hot hot hot. :faint: I don't like the heat and I think we will have yucky hot weather (in the 80's and above) for the next couple of weeks. :headache: I don't like the hot weather at all....it makes me crabbyhttp://i91.photobucket.com/albums/k291/BEST_FRIENDS_RL/Cute%20Little%20Creatures/dancingcrab.gif :rotfl:
Didn't do anything exciting this weekend. Disney Store and disneyshopping.com has a cute organic/go green line of t-shirts. On the disneyshopping.com website, they also have something where you can upload a video and choose 10 scenes that you like and have it made into a personalized flipbook. I think that's kinda cool. :thumbsup2

Good thing about living in the PNW, we don't really seem to have a lot of "seasonal" clothes. We aren't overly warm or cold, we layer a lot. Even if it's warm during the day, we almost always cool down in the evening. Mornings also tend to be chilly. So almost any clothes will work here at any time of the year. :thumbsup2

Another lovely 80 degree day here. I've been driving the convertible the last couple of days...:woohoo::woohoo:.
DH rototilled my garden spot. Today he's getting a load of compost and chicken manure to boost it up a bit. So this afternoon I can plant my cold weather crops (danger of frost not over until mid May). So I got cabbage, cucumbers, potatoes, onions, lettuce and carrots.
You know I've always been confused by lettuce...why can you not freeze it after it's cut, yet it's considered a cold weather crop and frost will not ruin it when it's growing??:confused3 Go Figure!

I am so right there with you! For some reason its all we talk about..Our next trip. Which is totally almost a year away! :lmao:
awwww, you even have the ticker installed for their first trip. :goodvibes
Not sure what will happen next year, plan to tackle a degree. Depends on my spring break and the cash flow issue.
We do want to pay down more of our debt (HUGE chunk gone thanks to refund this year) and possibly buy a house.
The house thing might be hassle - we don't want to chance not getting a spot in our current district (it's the reason WHY we live here!), but homes in this area cost more than we want to shell out in mortgage payment. Trying to keep it low due to Eloy's ever changing health and lack of tenure.
We could easily find an inexpensive foreclosed home in my sister's neighborhood.. but the district SUCKS!
We have open enrollment in MN, but it's no guarentee of a spot. :worried:
I did some researching, we qualify for Habitat for Humanity, Teacher Next Door HUD program (but only in Minneapolis) and some closing cost assistance programs aimed at Latinos. It's good to be a poorly paid teacher :thumbsup2:lmao:

funnygarcia
04-22-2009, 12:44 AM
Our summer humidity is nasty when the temps are in the 80 to 90's, we wish for some good thunderstorms to come thru and cool it off. Which leads us to tornado dangers, though living in the city the risk is much smaller for a tornado to hit. The storms usually blow thru and only are truly nasty to the south of us.

My bf read both books but I haven't. I just watched DaVinci Code about a month or two ago. I saw part of the trailer for the sequel. I'm not sure if it'll be scary or not but it looks like it's just packed with suspense.

Where dizzy lives its about 20-30 degrees cooler in the summer. Everyone from the valley (Phoenix) escapes to go up in the mountains so its not too bad up there. Gets very cold for her though! BRR. I hate cold. I get sick of the heat but I can take it better than I can freezing temperatures.

Yeah, the book was just non stop suspense. It was SO good! Some graphic violence scenes that I wont go into since you have not read it. I dont want to spoil the book or movie. For some reason I just cannot get into Tom Hanks as the character after reading the books first. I pictured someone else, not sure who but when they announced who it was I was disappointed and I LOVE Tom Hanks.

Hi Wanda and welcome to the Hyena thread! WOW! You're a premed student and have time to post on the DIS. You're just the sort of recruit we're looking for on our thread, someone who is an overachiever, but knows that posting on a Disney board is a much higher priority.:rotfl2:

I cant WAIT to see that movie. it took me a while to get into the book.. I think I actually had to start it 2 or three times to be able to get into it. But once I did, I really liked it. Not as much as the DaVinci code.. I such a geek.. I totally get into all that stuff.
meanwhile.. I am SO sick. My ear hurts. my head hurts, I have snot pouring out of everywhere.. uck. I have been fighting it for a few days, but it has hit me HARD CORE. My husband said it is probably due to lack of sleep... as he pranced out of th ehouse house to work after a full 8 hours.. butt monkey.
Awww...I'm sorry to hear that you are not feeling well Staley. :( I hope you feel better soon!

Hi :wave2: You know, I never have tried the dole whip floats. I tried the dole whip last month for the first time, but was really hankering for the float and it just didn't happen. Ho hum. September isn't really that far away, is it?
Just got back from the movies popcorn:: Went and saw Earth since I had the time today. :thumbsup2 Spectacular. Nothing like seeing those shots on the big-BIG screen.

The dole whip float is pineapple juice with the pineapple whip and a cherry and cute umbrella. :teeth: I love the dole whip floats. :lovestruc:love:
Oooh....today is Earth Day. If you buy a reusable shopping tote from Disney Store, for each bag that is sold, Disney will plant a tree. :thumbsup2 I bought one and it has Mickey hugging a tree on it and it costs $2.50. :)
I saw the trailers for the Earth film. The penguins look so cute :cutie:

I didn't know they were doing that. I knew about planting a tree if you see Earth in the opening week (a big reason I saw it today) but didn't know they were doing that too. We have a store in the mall across from my school so I think I will make a pit stop there on my way to my photography class tonight.

That's a cute water bottle :) I went to the mall after work to shop for my bf's cousin's daughter. She's turning 16 in early May. I went to Victoria's Secret and bought a tote bag, beach towel and flip flops from their Pink line. I hope she likes it. :)
The mall I went to doesn't have a Disney Store. :( The closest one is at another mall about 30 minutes away. Was the water bottle promo only for 1 day? :confused3

I think I would go crazy if there wasn't a Disney Store nearby for me. Its right next to both my work and my school so it's very accessible. Then again, maybe it's a little too accessible. I think the water bottle promo was for one day only. I am tempted to go back once our mall opens to see if they have any more, because I'm not sure.

This morning I accidentally took my allergy medication without food. :sad2: It gave me a stomach ache so I ate some crackers and drank some iced tea, which helped the pain subside.

I agree, it's a shame they don't have more adult clothing because then I might actually have something to buy. I mostly stick to any new Thumper plushies (because I can never have enough) and any Snow White water globes (because apparently I can never have enough of those either). I bought Kaylee a happy meal to keep her entertained, put little Jazzy in the Bjorn, and Vinny in the cart in his seat... I got FAR LESS stares then usual. Im guessing it was the lack of TWO little carseats. Did you all know that twins are an old lady magnet? What is it about medical bills lately? I had my breast MRI done at the hospital here and they billed my insurance company a total of nearly $4,300. Of course the insurance said that was unreasonable, it got reduced to about $2,500, of which I have to pay about $1,900.
I checked and found out that most other places are charging around $2,000 to begin with. I called and of course got nowhere. They told me to send a letter to their billing director, giving him the information on the other quotes I got from their competitors and they will consider reducing the bill. Yeah, right! In the meantime I have to pay the 1,900 by the 27th if I want to get the 10% discount for prompt payment. Then they will give me a refund if they find that they are indeed overcharging. I'm not going to stay up at night waiting for that refund check!
But on the good side, I am very well acquainted with someone that is on their board of directors. You can bet that I am going to tell him what is going on. He's also on the board of trustees of my late bosses charitable foundation. His wife is also a breast cancer survivor, so I have a feeling he might be willing to take a look at it for me. I hate to have to use people that I know to pull strings, but hey if it saves one other breast cancer survivor from getting taken by them, then it's worth it.:thumbsup2

Be sure and call the medical offices that sent the bill. Have their billing people work with the insurance company to dispute it. That's what I'm having done with my MRI reading/interpretation bill right now. I have also formally appealed their decision and turned it over to the WA state insurance commissioner. It's only $276 they are denying, but still it's ridiculous that I should even have to fight for that. I will waste thousands of dollars of their time if they don't approve it. It would be easier and cheaper for them just to pay it.

We don't have very good insurance at my work, $6,000 family deductible. Still it's better than nothing. Sure hope DH goes back to work soon and has better insurance than mine.
Although in August I am going to apply for a Kaiser Permanente individual policy. My boss will happily give me the $900 he pays for our current insurance to apply towards Kaiser. Then I will have the other $100 a month or so it costs.
Unlike regular insurance policies, Kaiser has about 6 different plans with set prices. If you are accepted you pay the price that everyone pays. Nothing higher because you've had cancer. I talked to their membership office and they said I would have better luck getting accepted once I was 3 years out from my cancer. So this August I will apply.:thumbsup2

I'm guessing she knows the cost to replace her drainfield...about $10-$20,000. Yes, we have lots of things we don't flush. I buy the cheaper toilet paper so it will decompose quickly and not cause clogs. I also can't dump anything greasy down the kitchen sink.

OUCH!
Hubby's is $2,000 per person, plus it is a tiered system of co-pays based on what clinic/hospital you receive care. Of course all of hubby's clinic/docs are on the 2nd tier simply becuase of "specalized care".. rip off!
My sister's insurance cost stayed the same.. but they jacked up the deductible from $500 to $3000 per person with a family cap of .. umm can't remeber but it was HIGH. Allowed only one preventative visit per year.:sad2:

umm, actually she had an illegal septic.. allowing "brown water waste" to simply drain. She had wetlands in her backyard thus would require a holding tank system with no drain field allowed. She got cited for it, her ex husband turned it in to the county... uhhh but he was the one to set it up that way.. jerk!
(I understand it's pricey.. but I also feel laws are there to protect you and others.. and wildlife. )

That's basically what happened with our company insurance. If we wanted to keep the same price this year we had to accept higher deductible. They jacked up the price of a $1,000 deductible to about $1,500 per family, per month. Unfortunately most of our WA employees are in the Port Angeles, WA area, which is outside of a major metropolitan area. So we are limited to only 2 medical insurance plans in the state that will offer coverage in that area. So we are stuck paying a really high price for really crappy insurance.
The only good part of the insurance is the first 6 office visits per year are not subject to the deductible, so you only pay 20%. But any xrays, labs, etc must go towards teh deductible.

umm, actually she had an illegal septic.. allowing "brown water waste" to simply drain. She had wetlands in her backyard thus would require a holding tank system with no drain field allowed. She got cited for it, her ex husband turned it in to the county... uhhh but he was the one to set it up that way.. jerk!
(I understand it's pricey.. but I also feel laws are there to protect you and others.. and wildlife. )
Wow, what a jerk! We get our pumped out every few years, makes it last longer that way since it gets rid of the scum and grease on the top. It's about time to get our pumped again. Boy, I bet my drainfield will breathe a sigh of relief when DD goes to college.:rotfl2:

I've read of people house sitting/pet sitting as thier source fo housing. Evenutally they establish a good refrence base and can move fomr job to job with no problems of not haivng a place to live. I think it would be fun! Not something we can do currently with the dialysis stuff.. I can imagine hauling all of the supplies from place to place? UGH! Too much!
My great aunt was a "snow bird", whe her husband was alive they would pack up a cmaper and visit all the family in MN. Going back to their manufactured home (trailer park) near San Diego in the winter. Would love to do something like that!

When my boss builds up some more airmiles (I spent all of them going to FL). Also, kind of waiting for DH to get back to work. This month I had a 1,900 MRI bill and a 1,500 property tax bill. Not to mention the huge credit card bill I managed to run up during vacation (but it was so worth it)! So in other words, maybe this fall.

Such a sweet picture btw, he looks like he loves being a big brother. You make good babies.
The picture of Vinny with his mouth open makes me laugh, when I was visiting my friend the other day who has a 10 day old baby, she was sleeping in my arms with her mouth open like that, but she looked so funny I couldn't help but laugh. When I laughed the baby bounced and looked even funnier making me laugh harder. I think I would be a terrible mom.

GEEESH, I had to do a double-take there, wondering where you got a baby picture of my kid!

Hello, everyone in hyena land! I woke early this morning, and thought I'd have a few minutes to pop in and say howdy. But I've already heard DS8 get up to use the bathroom (then he crawled into my bed without disturbing me, yay!), and then DS4 got up and came in to snuggle in my lap.
So we snuggled a bit, then I conned him into settling into my bed for another hour or so of sleep. He's had a few nightmares this week (about a green cat with creepy eyes and big claws taking chunks out of his body!), so he's been whiney and overtired. Hopefully he'll get a little extra shut-eye and have a good day today. :)
DS8's little league schedule is insane, with practices and games running our lives about 3-5 days of the week. It's a bit busier than I like, but DS8 seems to be really enjoying it for the most part, so it's worth it.
He has played 5 games so far, and hadn't got a hit yet, he'd either struck out or been walked to first base. He hits well in practice, so it was a bit mystifying, like he was intimidated by the kid pitcher or just all the spectators maybe. The last game he cried when he struck out for the 2nd time, and our hearts were breaking for him.
Well, last night he went up to bat at the top of the 2nd inning. I was so nervous I had to stand up, and I walked up behind the fencing around home plate and cheered him on. He got a ball, another one, then a strike I think... And then he got a hit! It wasn't a strong hit so sort of dribbled toward the pitcher, but he was so surprised we had to scream at him to run! :lmao:
He ran his little legs off, but the pitcher nabbed the ball and threw him out at first. He came back to the dugout looking a little put out, but DH and I were so happy, jumping up and down and cheering for his first hit! I think he just had to get over the psychological hump of that first one, and now it will hopefully be easier for him.
He was crying, but it turned out it was because of the cold; they use metal bats, and when it's cold out, getting a hit really hurts the hands, even wearing batting gloves. So I rubbed his hand until it felt better. My baby got his first hit!!!

DS4 and I had to leave the game about halfway through to attend a Mom-and-student event at his preschool. We were a tad late so caught the tale end of the teacher's introduction speech to everyone, and then we were free to do a special art project, work with the classroom materials, and look through the kids' composition books.
The teacher has kept samples of their work through the year and will give them to us at the end of the year. This is going to be a great keepsake! At the beginning of the year he couldn't write his name, and now he's reading! And she told me the other day that he was doing "simple math", which I took to mean those worksheets where you see two apples, and another apple, and you're supposed to write how many apples there are altogether. But when I looked in his book, she had written equations like this:
1+1 =
1+2 =
.
.
.
1+9 =
And he'd gotten every answer right! She had two more pages of math, the second of which was the same as the first, only the 2nd number of the equation was the constant:
1+1 =
2+1 =
and on the last equation she faked him out, throwing in a 9+2= . He'd written the wrong answer (10), then scribbled it out and wrote 11 next to it! :teeth:
And the final page was beginning to work with twos:
2+1 =
2+2 =
I'm just stunned. And so proud! (You might have been able to tell...) ;)

Oh yeah!! I managed my first solo shopping trip yesterday! And by solo, I mean without the assistance of my hubby. But not totally...SOLO. :lmao: I took the three little ones... It went swimmingly. Some one did stop me to tell me that there is a special place in heaven for me. :lmao: Better then a special place in hell.. I guess. :rotfl2::rotfl2:
hello to our newbies!! Im Megan.. I live just south of Tacoma Wa. Im 28 and I have 4 kids.. Alex is 7, Mikalah is 4, Vinny and Jazzy are our 6 week old twins. I love it! That might be the lack of sleep talking though. :rotfl2:
Im STILL REALLY sick, and so are the three little kids.. So that is WICKED fun. Jazzy projectile vomited EVERYWHERE this morning. Dh was like... :scared1: Im glad I dont have to clean THAT up! :rotfl2::rotfl2: It truly is amazing how much puke they can hold. The twins have been sneezing and coughing, and so has Mikalah.. the babies are better today though.. Im glad. Alex had RSV when he was 6 weeks old, and I was really worried about the twins getting it too.. nut they seem to be felling better today, then they were yesterday. I dont think the puking had anything to do with the cold... I think she ate to much to fast..
Oh.. and more fun.. I have gotten an $800. bill from some pathology place for testing the placentas that my insurance wont cover. I didnt ask them to test the placentas!! THEN I get a $900. bill from the peds that my insurance wont cover.. Dhs work STILL hasnt put the babies on our insurance!!:mad: Seriously?? Im scraping up money for my RENT, much less that much in medical bills. At least they are covering ME still. I no way I could handle that $20,000. bill from the delivery. :scared1::scared1:
Ummm... Thats all. :lmao:
Glad to here the babies are doing well!
City Girl! Wish I could flush things like that down my toilet.
I can't ither, we have a septic tank too.
I don't flush them.. too scared
But then again.. there was the whole underwear flushing incident, it went down and didn't come back. Amazing! But the toy telephone didn't quite make it :lmao:

Oh and here's a Public Service Announcement.
I ran across this frugal safety tip the other day...if you are ever worried about being in a parking lot or strange place by yourself. Don't bother spending the money on a can of mace or pepper spray. Just carry a can of Wasp/Bee spray. Apparently it shoots like 50 feet at high velocity and the chemicals are even worse in someone's face than pepper spray. I thought it was a great idea.:thumbsup2

I believe I am having a midlife crisis. I have this overwhelming desire to sell the house, get rid of all my belongings, get a tiny motorhome and travel. I have no idea where I want to go, how long I want to be gone. I just want to travel and see places, meet new people, hike on trails.
But I know I must be a responsible mother and that must wait until the kids are grown and gone. Seven more years!! You know I spent the first 20 years of my adult life doing what I thought I was supposed to do...get married, raise kids, be responsible, all that stuff.
I don't know if it's my age or how cancer changed my way of thinking. But I want to soar like a bird, I want to dance in the rain, I want to lay out and watch the falling stars, ride my bike down the middle of the road....I love my family and it's not that I want to desert them or anything. As a matter of fact I would prefer that they come along with me if they want.
Have I lost my mind?

I believe I am having a midlife crisis. I have this overwhelming desire to sell the house, get rid of all my belongings, get a tiny motorhome and travel. I have no idea where I want to go, how long I want to be gone. I just want to travel and see places, meet new people, hike on trails.
But I know I must be a responsible mother and that must wait until the kids are grown and gone. Seven more years!! You know I spent the first 20 years of my adult life doing what I thought I was supposed to do...get married, raise kids, be responsible, all that stuff.

I understand completely. I came close to dying in 2007 and I have found that I am a totally different person. I find that I don't have patience for a lot of things I did before but I have tolerance for other things that I never did before. You haven't lost your mind. You just have a renewed interest in yourself, and a desire to amke your time count.

I was born in Garden Grove, but we moved to WA when I was 5. However, my grandparents lived in Anaheim, so my sister & I used to just about live at DL because we spent every summer with them. Back in the good old days. They used to drop us off at the front gate (back when you could drive right up to the front gate), we carefully rationed out our ticket booklets, had to meet them for dinner at the DL Hotel so they could check up on us, then we stayed until closing. When the fireworks started my grandfather would drive over to pick us up.

I've never been to either of the parks during the Holidays when the decor is up. That is something I would love to do, but my family freaks every time I mention that we should go to Disney for Christmas. They are a bit more traditional than I am I guess.

Oh wow. I remember the tickets. There were never enough E-tickets. I miss the pirate ship restaraunt in Fantasyland. I can remember getting the best tuna sandwich there. And the Sky Buckets. I hadn't gone for years and when we went back in like 2001 I was in shock. What a change.

Yep! Those E tickets were like gold. I had not been to DL from about 1981 until a couple of years ago. So it was really a shock for me. My sister moved to Florida a few years ago, so we started going to WDW. But then I met up with the Hyena crowd here and started going to DL also.:thumbsup2

DD has requested that I not buy her anymore clothes at garage sales. OK, fine I say. Then I say "do you mind if I ask why". She tells me because the clothes are old. :confused3 What do you mean by that, I ask. She says "THEY'RE USED".
Uh yeah...you do realize that everything you wear is used. What you are wearing right now is used. She then gets a funny look on her face. Like it never even occured to her that once she wears the clothes once, they are used!
Now I know why college exists. Because if I had to live with a teenage girl for a few more years I would probably go insane.

Hello and welcome to kaoden39 and Bella Ella! I'm "Alex", we live in the Seattle area, and have two little boys, DS8 and DS4. (Soon to be DS5!)
Bella Ella, I used to live in Martinez! Of course this was in the early '70s, probably way before you were born. I attended Hidden Valley Elementary for 6 months, before we moved near the Carquinez Strait. Small world, huh?
And Kaoden39, we used to visit Mt. Diablo. My strongest memory from there is having a watermelon eating contest with my older brothers at the summit. I was so proud of myself because I kept pace with them. But the pride turned to pain on the windy drive down, around and around and around, until I finally exploded all over the back section of our station wagon. My parents were NOT HAPPY. :lmao:
DH and DS8 are at baseball batting practice right now, then will head to the field for the usual pre-game practice. DS4 and I will join them to attend the game at 4:30. Long day for DS8, so he's going to be very tired and hungry afterward.
DS4 isn't known for his ability to sit still for hours on end, so we're bringing a little backpack stuffed with activities: books to read, a beanie kitty to play with, a maze book, and a box of crayons. The last 2 games he spent the whole time picking dandelions, playing with sticks and talking to some guys on a nearby tennis court. But better safe than sorry, I say.

Small world is right! Funny thing is, I was born in Tacoma before moving down here. I never went to Hidden Valley, actually the elementary school I went to moved when I was in 1st grade and we were some of the first kids at (Morello Park) so I started at plain old Martinez Elementary that was down at the lower level of the junior high. Our 'class' went through a lot of changes in the schools, I got so tired of learning around construction all of the time.

I guess I need to do an intro...
I'm Bernice, I live in Minnesota..yes we do have over 10,000 lakes. ;)
I live in the Twin Cities metro (Minneapolis/St Paul), married to a wonderful guy who is in his second year of teaching middle school science and has kidney failure. He dialyzes at home 6 days a week using the NXStage machine.. and doing very well. :goodvibes
We have two wonderful young men, 13 and 16 yrs old. And a 6 toed cat named Poly.... she is a nuisance but we love her.. she is my only girl even if she is just a fur kid.
We lived in California last year, decided it wasn't a good fit for our family... excellent education, quality health care, affordable economy and the love of our family lured us back to Minnesota. I still grumble about the weather and being deprived of my beloved Disneyland, but my "boys" are much happier this year. Sigh... maybe some day.... :upsidedow
I'm currently a domestic diva, but in the fall will be going back to school... thinking of being certified as a physical therapy assistant.
In the past I was a preschool teacher, an LPN and I did product demonstrations.. but not all at the same time
My other "job" is couponing and finding deals.
Today at Target $117 order , walked out paying $30 (mostly non food/HBA)
Grocery shopping $170, walked out paying $89 (meat stock up and buying more organics) and got $12 in catalina/coupons for my next order. :woohoo::woohoo:

I hope everyone is having a good weekend. My bf and I went to the mall. I bought a belated b-day present for his mom from Harry & David. They had something called "The cookie Book" and inside it contained a variety of cookies. We went to Fry's Electronics and I bought a new PC game and the DVD of Bridge to Terabithia. We stopped at Barnes & Noble, Cost Plus World Market and then it was off to meet his mom, brother and his gf for dinner at Red Lobster. I think the food must not have been too great tonight because I have a stomach ache.

Good Morning Hyenas! I'm up at the crack of dawn. Got up early to make sandwiches and pack a lunch for my family that went motocross racing. I've got a gazillion things to do today.
Pix---I love that welcome sign. We should put that on the first post of our thread.:thumbsup2
So I guess I should introduce myself to our new friends also. Although I think I might have already posted some of this.
My name is Alison and I live in Woodland, WA a small town about 30 miles north of Portland, OR; right off of I-5. I have 2 great kids a 17yo DD and a 10yo DS. This year will be my 20th anniversary. We live in a rural area and have 2 dogs and 3 cats. My DH used to race motocross and both of our kids do also. Although DD is way more competitive and into motocross than DS is. I'm an accountant and love my job, except for the fact that I don't get to DIS as much as I would like.
I'm a 2-1/2 year breast cancer survivor  so the last couple of years have been rather crazy. I had a left mastectomy, 8 rounds of chemo, 36 radiation sessions and then last spring had a reconstructive surgery called a tram flap where I had fat, muscle and skin from my abdomen moved up to create a new breast. As a result I'm no longer lopsided and have a really flat tummy. But apparently they couldn't find a use for my love handles and as a result they seem to still be stuck on my side.
Just like Bernice, I like couponing, although I'm not nearly as good at it as her. So she still wears the crown of Coupon Queen.:worship::worship:
Our thread used to be super busy. It was nothing to come on here in the morning and find that 20 pages had been filled. But the last few months we've all been kind of busy and our thread has slowed considerably. Even though we don't live nearby, we've all managed to make many DL trips and get chances to meet each other. :thumbsup2

Had a pretty good day at garage sales. Didn't get a lot, but did find some things that I had been looking for. We also found a new Goodwill Store and about 25% of their clothing was brand new from Target. :thumbsup2 It's located in a more rural area, not real close to a Target store, so I think Target must figure donating to them won't cause direct competition. I got DD a cut new bathing suit for $6.
I found a brand new organizer for my closet. So last night I decided to put it up in the closet. Then of course I found myself thinking my closet was a mess. So I tore my side apart and threw 5 bags of old clothing and STUFF into the back of the car to take to the Goodwill. Ended up finishing up at 11pm!

I have to say, I am not a weekend person. I have to work overnight on Saturday nights, and doing it only one night a week is getting harder and harder for me to do thatn it was when I first started doing it - however long ago that was. I get home by 6:30 a.m. if I'm lucky, fall asleep by 7:15 a.m. and of course I am up before 11:00 a.m. and if I fall back asleep I wont sleep tonight and I'll be dead early tomorrow morning.

Hi! I have a second and thought I would stop in for a second.
First off, hello to everyone new! :welcome: I'm Shawna, nice to meet you all!
Today we went to the AZ Science Center. It was free this weekend and we decided to take advantage of it along with the majority of Phoenix. WOW! It was crazy busy but we had fun. Took us over an hour to get in the door. The kids were complaining but we just told them it would be like waiting in like for DL. :lmao:yeah, right.
Jeff has an interview tomorrow so wish us luck and keep the prayers coming.
Morgan had a dance competition yesterday. She had an almost flawless routine until she fell. Darn. I was so hoping and she took a misstep out of a turn and had a nasty fall. She got right up and recovered and still took 4th overall for it. 1 judge gave her a platinum (highest score) for it anyway and the other 2 gave her a high gold so she ended up with a high gold award. With a fall not too bad. The owner kept saying that Kristy Yamagucci (I know I butchered her name but I'm too lazy to google but obviously not too lazy to type this whole thing out.:rotfl2:) won the gold medal with a fall so it was no big deal! She had a blast and that is all that matters in the end.
Jake had his first track meet. The poor guy coughed the whole way down the 50 yard race. :rotfl: I shouldn't laugh but it was kinda funny. He insisted on going and since they only have 2 of them we decided to let him go. He's on the tail end of the cough but once he started running it came back full force. He was coughing into his elbow the whole way. He wanted to do the 100 yard dash but we wouldnt let him after seeing him cough so much.
At the moment I'm debating letting the kids cook dinner, however the fear of what we would be eating is motivating me to call Barros pizza tonight. I am NOT in the cooking mood. 3 1/2 weeks left of school!!! YEAH! I cannot wait. I'm ready to have some lazy days of summer!

summer? :rotfl2::rotfl2::rotfl2:
Geesh (had to bring that word back) it is barely spring here. :headache:
Northern MN had snow on the weekend, Duluth had a high of 38
We will have rain on and off this week (temps in 60s/50s), but that's okay it makes everything grow :flower3:
Hubby has 27 student contact days left.
No layoff letter .. yet.. hopefully it will stay that way and he will get a call back for next year. :thumbsup2
I need gift suggestions, my dad will be reaching the ripe old age of 70 on Mother's Day weekend. Need a birthday gift to match this momentous occasion.. plus a Mother's Day gift.
Mom is easy for me to find a gift.... something pretty or a gift card for books and she will be delighted.
(she mentioned something about needing photos to put in a book of when my boys were small. I'm thinking that might be a good project for me this summer.. scan in photos and have a printed book made. Could get it done in time for her birthday.)
My dad?? no freaking idea.
My last oh wow he will like this gift was some very nice fair trade coffees only to find out..
he drinks tea now.
:headache: :headache: :headache: :headache:
so uhhhh yeah, no freakin clue.:laughing:

Do you have a store like World Market where you live? They have some wonderful teas and mugs. He might like some fun flavored teas.

Oh wow, that is awesome!!!! I have a 4# jar of Beans at EACH computer in our house....5 computers... :lmao:I also have a jar hidden for emergencies! LOL:lmao: The one good thing is I eat one jelly bean at a time to savor the flavors. They are so intense!
Hi! Welcome to the thread :goodvibes That's cool that you love jelly beans. My co-workers bought a box from the 99 cent store called Belly Flops. They are made by Jelly Belly and consist of the irregular/deformed jelly beans. They said it tasted good. :)

I like Cost Plus World Market. They have cool stuff and I like to see what new products they get in. I used to work there years and years ago. It was really fun and I liked making the coffee & tea of the day and writing the daily flavors on the chalkboard. :teeth: :cutie:

Hi girlies and Welcome to all the newcomers.
I have a yoga/pilates/tai chi class in an hour, I have no idea what it's going to be like. I can do yoga, I hate pilates and I've never tried tai chi it should certainly make for an interesting hour at any rate.
I accidentally left my lock at the gym yesterday so hopefully someone turned it in so I can have it back. I'm borrowing dh's lock for the day but I miss mine :sad1:
Also, my sister is coming to visit me!!! She's in Egypt this week and next Tuesday she's coming to my house for the whole month of May. We fight a lot but I'm still excited :lmao:
If I don't see any of you later, have a great day!

I like the tea and mug idea from world market! :thumbsup2
I have nothing to offer, its too early! :lmao:I'm heading out for a jog to clear the mind. Had a horrible night at cheer. Morgan now thinks she is FAT. She is a flier and she has new bases that could not lift her this year. Well, the bases are not trained right thats the problem not that my 8 year old is FAT. OMG! My daughter is underweight not overweight. I'm so irritated. I miss her old coach so much. This never would have happened under her. I told Morgan we will do the next 2 classes and the competition but we will quit after that if she wants. She said she didnt want to but she hates the coach so we might look elsewhere. I'll be checking out coaches at the competition this weekend. ugh. I actually told her that we could just quit now but she said she didnt want to leave the girls without their flier for competition. After they called her heavy she wants to go and support them. I hope they appreciate that but I doubt it.
OK 5:45 am rant over. I need to jog to get this out of my head.
Random thought: Why is my dog making human like noises?

They sell the Belly Flops at the plant gift store and you get like 5 pounds of Jelly Belly's for like $9. Which if you ever buy Jelly Bellys is a great deal. They taste just as good. My DH who is a Jelly Nelly freak loves them.

I'm glad you like the idea. How dare anyone make your poor daughter worry about being fat. That is how girls start on the road to eating disorders. I would be wringing some necks.

I can't believe that Shawna (ok, well I can, I lived many years in the dance world). Poor Morgan - what a terrible thing for an 8 year old to think. That girl is beautiful and like you said underweight if anything. I can drive down there and beat up the new coach if you would like. I bet my kids could do a good beating on the girls in the class too - just give me a call - we can be there in 3 hours :thumbsup2

I love it! Dizzy, I hate to tell you this but the girl is 4'8 1/2" tall now! How tall are you? Her dance teacher is only 4'11" and fears by Christmas Morgan will be as tall as she is!
So she is 4' 8 1/2 inches tall and only weighs 65lbs. 65lbs!!!!! What are those girls thinking??? There is no way she is overweight. Like I said she needs to gain a few lbs! Actually the problem stems more from them being new to cheer and cant lift her up since they have not been trained but they dont want to admit they cant do anything so they call her heavy. They are 12 year olds! UGH!
I think we are done and are concentrating on dance from now on where she feels happy and proud of herself. Yes, we've encountered some crazy, mean people at competitions (dizzy, you know exactly who I'm talking about or at least from what studios) but she can deal with that since she is starting to "hang" at their level. The cheer thing is just ridiculous.

Wow, I don't think I could handle any of those....I would probably get stuck in some awkward yoga position. :rotfl: :lmao:
I hope that you find your lock. Wow, your sister is in Egypt? That sounds awesome. :goodvibes I hope you have a good time when she visits you.

Ooooh! we have new people here!!
Welcome aboard!!:goodvibes
To the rest of you ladies who know me..................yes I have been MIA! :rolleyes1
Sorry, I'm trying to keep up on all of you!!
I had a wonderful visit to DL last weekend. I ended up going 2 1/2 days, so it was nice and not too rushed. Sunday, I basically just watched my grandsons having fun. I enjoyed that so much. Saw some of DIS ladies running around doing the Mouse Adventure contest. That looked like a blast!
So what is new with all of you?
Shawna, I can not believe that Morgan thinks she is fat!! She is on the thin side as everyone knows!!! Geesh! The girls who are catching her, just need to get stronger. That is all!!! Becky used to be the catcher, and she was small, but she had dancer arms so she was strong. So the catcher can be small, they just need to have the big bomb arms!! :rotfl: She used to work out with the boys in HS, and would get teased about her muscles. So much that she stopped! She even used to win some of the guys in arm wrestling!! :scared1: That was not good!
To Morgan,
You are not fat!!!
From the lady who saw you dance at DL,
Melody:flower3:

Thanks guys. This morning I asked her if she felt better and she had said yes. She also said she knows she is skinny but she was hurt that they called her heavy. I told her either way not to worry about her size as she is beautiful inside and out and she seemed happy with that. :goodvibes
I also found out we have a cheer program through the same league close to our house with a different coach. I'll watch them at competition this weekend and if our dance schedule permits next fall we will join that team. We've decided of course due to job situations to take the summer off already. :worship:ONe plus I guess!
