hey! I was in middle of typing a post and POOF my computer (or the DIS) ate it.

ah well, it wasn't important just prattling on about economy and theories on gangs....

E had his clinic visit today, I pushed him to be honest and tell the nephrologist that he has been having joint pain.
I didn't have to push much, the doc picked up on it on his own..

"You look tired, what's going on?"

dang he's good! :thumbsup2

Now to blungeon the husband into going to ortho doc and get checked over.

Hope all of you have fun in the sunshine... meanwhile I will be sititng here and grumbling at the expected snow storm this weekend.. DARN fickle MN weather!
It was a gorgeous weekend with 60 degree highs, sunny and light wind. Today.. grey, rain and cooler temps. GRRRRRR. Spring is taking it's sweet time.

I would rather it didn't rain, the poor people in Moorhead/ Fargo are busting butt trying to get the sand bags ready before the Red River crests. Strange, I'm the only person awake and the tv just changed channels. I was watching the Daily Show with John Stewart and it switched to ABC. We no longer have ABC. Dish Network has been in a dispute with our local broadcaster over the price to re-broadcast...so all it has is a note stating that there is a disagreement....Strange.

We're going on Carnival Sensation. It was used right after Hurricane Katrina for housing and then underwent a complete refurbishment just a few months ago. So should be pretty good. Has really cool looking waterslides for the kids. I figured Carnival was better for the kids. Royal Carribean was actually a bit cheaper, but that was the one I was on last month and it was a little more geared towards adults.

I remember my co-workers were entranced by this one drink they offered on the ship. It was a monkey shaped bank w/ an umbrella in it that looked like a coconut. Mini Hyena party, long past my bedtime.

Hubby is on his way to the dealership in a tow truck-- grrrrr.
He took the day off for his doctor appt (he has a large cyst that needs to be drained- OUCH.. embarrassing to have as it is in his behind :lmao: a pilonidal cyst-- yuck!). I talked him into going to pick up some coffee and breakfast for us, walked out to car.. came back just minutes later. The car would not start.. CRAP!
Had a friend try to jump it, still won't start.. not the battery as the lights and other things work. Scrambled and did some calling to see if we have tow coverage with our insurance or anything else.. nope. We have a AAA card, but didn't pay for the membership this year. Told him to call and see if he paid today that it would be active today.. he wouldn't do it.

Did more searching, aha! Tow is covered if the problem is under warranty- :worship: yes! (just squeaking under the wire for warranty coverage, 5,000 more miles and we would have been screwed)

He just walked in, they gave him a rental and the tow was covered. Now to wait and see what the heck is wrong. :headache:

Scrambled and did some calling to see if we have tow coverage with our insurance or anything else.. nope. We have a AAA card, but didn't pay for the membership this year. Told him to call and see if he paid today that it would be active today.. he wouldn't do it.

Did more searching, aha! Tow is covered if the problem is under warranty- :worship: yes! (just squeaking under the wire for warranty coverage, 5,000 more miles and we would have been screwed)

He just walked in, they gave him a rental and the tow was covered. Now to wait and see what the heck is wrong. :headache:

Bernice- I hope your DH's procedure goes well and I'm sorry to hear about your car. Hopefully it's nothing serious and that the repairs will be covered by your warranty.

dealership called... the car started.

What???! :headache:
Hubby is peeved and puzzled.
They check it over some more and call back.. can't find the problem but they will keep it overnight and see if when the motor is cold if something happens.

Before he called for the tow.. he tried starting it a few times times, had a friend try to start it, tried a jump. Nothing not even a "click" when they turned the key.

Puzzling :confused3

His cyst was lanced, she just cut it and squeezed- yuck!
He's being a ninny about soaking in the tub. He doesn't do tub baths, but the wound will clean out and heal better with warm bath. (He knows it will work.. It's how we treated wounds on nursing home patients, whirlpool baths everyday.)

Now onto the next crisis for the day.. ugh! :guilty: His acess is not playing nice again, he scrapped treatment today. Called his nurse and demanded an arteriogram, no more "try this.. try that... it should work.." well gee it doesn't work, help me fix the dang thing! GRRRR. He asked for afternoon appt, nurse laughed and said.. not going happen. Nooooooooo, not another sick day! sigh.....

Road bumps, lots of them today.... it can only get better. Right???

I was in need of a new lamp for our computer room. The lamp I had broke (the base broke and I didn't know there were rocks inside it). :headache: It was tough to vacuum up. :sad2:

I went to Ikea after work and found a lovely lamp. They also had the cutest lamp shade that has cool embroidery on it. Here's a pic: http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/90096079 They don't show the cute bird on it in the pic :( The floor lamp I chose isn't on their website. I ate their Swedish meatballs for dinner. :thumbsup2 I wanted their ice cream (it's $1 for a cone) but the line was too long. I also noticed that they got rid of plastic bags (probably for environmental reasons). Stopped at Target on the way home and bought a few things.

Wow, the Sex & the City Complete DVD Series is sold out on amazon.com. The price dropped again after I bought it and they did a price adjustment for me. Now it's sold out. It was on sale for 56% off.

Oh and I bought Bolt on DVD from Walmart today. It was on sale for $15.97. :yay: I held it in my hands like Mr. Burns and thought: "Excellent!" http://i13.tinypic.com/53ihont.jpg :teeth: :rotfl:

craziness...
dealership called, it started right up.

what the???? Grrrrr.

Hubby called his dialysis nurse last night to complain about his access issues, asked for arteriogram. This morning.. he changes his mind and wants to keep trying. Too late... radiology called, he has an appointment tomorrow morning. Called him at work, he quietly grumbled (class was going on) and agreed to go to the appt. I'm tired of being his personal secretary.

Today I got a call that UPS is coming to pick up a package.. fine fine.. but the medical company was to send a new box. The new machine arrived in a box that was trashed by UPS on delivery (smashed on end, crumpled edges, maybe it got wet?).

What else is new? We received several trashed boxes of supplies on another delivery. Punctured bagged dialysate fluid, crushed boxes, tape popped open. Had one box leaking in our closet.. URGH!

The medical company was to send a new box to swap out the machine, guess what didn't show up?

Two rolls of packing tape later.... :headache:

This is not a cheapo household item, it's a medical device that costs a couple thousand dollars. Hope that any health care reform includes plans for efficiently sending/ receiving supplies. It's not the fault of UPS, it's the fault of the company for not securely packing their boxes for shipment.

Alison's trip report.

1. Forgot to eat breakfast before leaving. So grabbed a vanilla latte and coffee cake at Starbucks at airport.

2. Very bumpy ride to Seattle.

3. Ate half of my Subway sandwich at Seattle airport before boarding connecting flight.

4. 30 minutes into the flight started puking.

5. Continued puking across the entire continental United States. Can't use motion sickness patches because they will cause drowsiness and I have to drive to my sister's house.

6. Arrived at airport only to find that even though rental site said car rental agency was at airport...it wasn't! Had to lug kids and luggage onto shuttle.

7. Went out in the way back of parking lot, entourage with luggage following me. Instead of being greeted by a convertible, there is a dinky Hyundai in slot 86. Leave kids in parking lot with 47,000 pounds of luggage, hike back to rental office. They give me one parked right in front. Geez, think they could have done that in the first place. :sad2:

8. Only made 1 wrong turn on the 1 hour, 5 different highways trek to my sister's house.

9. Feeling good this morning, just put the top down on the convertible and we are headed out to have lunch with my sister. It is SUNNY AND WARM!!!:yay::woohoo::yay::woohoo:

Yes folks, this is the same backpack that he carried onto the plane and that our wonderful TSA folks deemed safe and that made it thru security!:scared1:AMAZING!!!!!

It seems it was the old backpack that my DH used when he was going to heavy equipment school and he had left some pens and a boxcutter in one of the pockets.

Hey ladies!!! babies are momentarily NOT eating.. So I figured I woud pop on and say hello!

Jazzy is back to nursing.. My LC wants me to try to exclusively nurse her.. Sounds good.. but DANG is it time consuming. HELLO!! I have three other kids that need stuff, and its hard when there is a baby attached to your b0ob for 45 minutes every couple of hours. oh well.. both babies are getting about 90% breastmilk.. Which is good, considering there are two of them I am feeding.

They are getting HUGE. Vinny is up to 8lbs9oz and Jazz is 7lbs9oz.. Jazz looks so dainty and petite next ot her bro. :lmao: Its so funny. They are WICKED cute. Seriously.. Vinny is looking less like Mr. magoo, and more like his dad.. I think. Jazz is starting to look like me. FINALLY!!! I have a baby that looks like me! She has a darker complexion then I do.. She is too cute. Everyone is just LOVING the new babies. Alex is so tender with them.. He loves to hold them and feed them. Its so sweet! Mikalah?? Oy! She is going to give me a stroke!:lmao: I had left vinny on he couch to nap, and I was cleaning the kitchen.. He started to cry, and I called out to him.. Im on way!! Mikalah yells out.. Its okay mommy!! I have him!:scared1::scared1::scared1: Sure enough.. I walk in and she is sitting on the couch with him on her lap! :scared: OMG!! She PICKED HIM UP!! ON HER OWN!! Oy. Well I have a good excuse. Last summer when DH was going to his heavy equipment schooling he had all sorts of hand tools, Leatherman, etc. They had to do basic maintenance type things on the backhoes, dozers, etc... He just forgot about it and left it in the backpack. Now that he's done with school he doesn't use it anymore. It's a nice heavy, leather Fox backpack, very heavy duty. Well DS doesn't normally use that backpack. But I told him to grab it and use it for his carry-on. As my luck would have it, DS didn't check all the pockets and DH obviously left some pens, pencils and a box cutter in there. I think he used it for cutting off zip-ties when they had to lock out things on equipment.

My sister got a kick out of it...she got her yogurt confiscated once, yet I have no problem bringing a box cutter. Funny, yet scary at the same time.

MEGAN!!! Hiya girl! I'm so glad the babies are healthy and everyone is doing well. When my little sister was born and was just a few weeks old, my mom left her on a blanket sleeping on the floor and I was sitting watching cartoons. She took a quick shower, even left the door open...but came out and my baby sister was gone.:scared1: Apparently in my 3yo wisdom I decided that I didn't like her, she cried too much. I simply picked her up, carried her into the kitchen and laid her on top of the garbage.:scared1::lmao: I told my mom that she cried too much and I decided to "frow her away".

Trip Report Day #2.

Had a good day, woke up early, then went back to sleep for a bit of a nap. Met my sister and had lunch at Tequila Flats.:thumbsup2 It was very good.

We stopped at Beall's outlet store for about 20 minutes on the way home. Kids got a few things....then we came home and chilled. Kids sat out in the sun and played in the pool.

My sister got home around 3:30 and we decided to walk down to the beach. There were Portugese Man O' War's all over the beach.:scared1::scared1::scared1:Very beautiful, but freaked my kids out a bit, so they decided they didn't want to go in the water. Which was probably just as well, fairly large waves and some rip tides. So not a very good day to swim or boogie board. So we took a nice long walk down the beach, kids collected shells, we seen a very neat sand sculpture. A little girl about 5 years old made a life-size guitar and music notes. Very pretty and she was very talented, also proud of her work (as she should be). It was awesome!

After the beach we decided we didn't want to cook, so we went to a local NY Pizzeria. Run by a native New Yorker, awesome pizza and even more fun listening to the owner and watching him interact with everyone. What a hoot! He is so unorganized, but yet so funny. I think I could have stayed there all evening watching him.

Cruise is tomorrow and as much as I love you all, I don't think I'm going to pay cruise ship prices for internet surfing. So you'll have to wait until Sunday for my next report.

OMG too funny!!

Justin was 3 years old when Noah was born.
I had left Noah in the middle of our bed, stepped away to the kitchen for a bit. Heard the beginning wails, scooted off to find J hauling his brother off the bed by his swaddling blanket. :scared1: Rescued him before he got dropped.
:faint:

He tried changing his diaper once too, I asked for his "help" and wanted him to grab me a diaper and wipes.. he starts taking off N's diaper and pushes me away. :lmao: uhhhh, no you don't have to do that sweetie. :cutie:

Bassinett was great to protect the lil guy, pushed it room to room, into the bathroom when I showered. No more helpers.

Hmmm, he did drop him once. N was about a year old, J decided he wanted to show off how strong he was .. picked him up and realized he was abit heavier than expected and dropped him. CLUNK wahhhhhhhh we were worried for a few minutes because N started walking funny right after the "drop" (he was an early walker.. not quite 9 months).

I was thinking.. oh great he broke his leg, how do we explain that in the ER???

How did the injury occur ? umm his brother dropped him. :rolleyes1

These are cute Disney print easter eggs- the inside is filled with fruity candy, gummies and jelly beans.

Wonka has made these cool plastic easter eggs:

Some can be mounted (tape on the back), some have a suction cup on the back or it can be hung (string attached) and they also have ones that glow in the dark. They come filled with sweet tarts, laffy taffy and nerds.

They also have ones that have Sponge Bob print or Dora the Explorer. The inside contains sour candy, fruity candy, krabby patties and jelly beans.

Just wanted to share :)

Oh and Walgreen's is selling these cute plush Easter baskets:

I believe they are $9.99/EA but I can't remember. They also had similar ones but they were of Spiderman and Sponge Bob.

Good morning! Happy Friday! I saw Pink Princess Easter baskets at Wal-Mart the other day. I wanted to get one for my self but I don't know what I would do with it so I'll probably end up getting them for my nieces.

Things are going ok with DBF's sister. I only saw her for a few hours on Wednesday night and not at all yesterday. DBF took her to visit their brother in Long Beach and they didn't get home until after 4:00am! :scared1: So far so good. :rotfl:

HI everyone!

Did a quick look to see how everyone is.

Megan, sounds like the babies are doing wonderfully. It is so sweet to hear about Alex, and how Mikalah wants to help. Had the same thing happen with my littles one too. I guess everyone has that kind of story.

Though Alison, yours is the first story to hear about being put in the garbage! :scared1:
Hope you are feeling way better. Have a great cruise again!

Pix, have a Dole Whip for me, will ya?

Bernice, so glad to hear that Eloy finally got his lines running right.
How is the car lately?

Hi Sarah! How is the job, besides not being able to put cute things on your desk. That is stupid if you ask me!

Dizzy, How are you girl?

Hi Shawna.......wherever you are.

Same to Alex!!!

Christina! Do I need to send you a new siggie image? :rotfl:

Love the little recap in your posts Melody :goodvibes

And yeah.. there was nothing wrong with the car. :confused3 Or at least the dealership couldn't re-create the same problem. There goes $150 (tow and expenses to be checked). We call it our craptastic day, seemed like everything was going wrong that day.

Now it's good yet again.. slightly stressed but good. :thumbsup2

Hubby came home with a smile and more happy work news.. yet another sign that he will have a job with this school next year. The principal asked if he was able to go to training (with his dialysis equipment), it's not set in stone yet.. if not this year (August) then next year.

The fun part..... it's in San Diego this year. :cool1:

Hiya Everyone! Got back from the cruise this morning. So here's 2nd installment of trip report...

1. Carnival Sensation, recently refurbished so everything was shiny, new and pretty. Very nice ship.:thumbsup2

2. Put my patch on as we boarded the ship. Still felt a bit queasy by dinner time, but able to finish eating. Didn't feel great the whole time I was on the ship, but not nearly as bad as last time. So obviously the patches did work.

3. DD starts feeling queasy after about 2 hours. Luckily the doctor gave me 3 patches, so put on behind her ear and she started feeling better.

4. WOW, do my trip reports always start with nausea?!:rotfl:

5. Had a fun time, explored the ship, etc...the first night.

6. Next day we were at Nassau. I booked the Dolphin Encounter and Aquaventure Swim at the Atlantis hotel. Very spendy, but oh so worth it. We are thinking next year we will bypass a cruise or Florida and just take a plane to Nassau and stay there.

7. Lazy River was AWESOME!!!!!!!!!! It had rapids and was so neat. DS fell over on the 2nd set of rapids.:rotfl2: I didn't do the Dolphin Encounter, so just took photos of the kids. They said it was the favorite part of the vacation so far. Spent all day at The Atlantis, so didn't go downtown shopping.

8. That evening DS decided to play at Camp Carnival kids club. They had a Late Night Party for the 9-11yo's that night. They brought him home at 3:45am! Funny, teens were in bed by midnight, but my 10yo was out all night.

9. Watched several shows, played bingo, hung out by the pool, etc...Just a very fun day.

Spending a nice quiet day at my sister's today. The kids would like to hit the Disney Waterparks, so I guess I have another destination tomorrow. So much for that relaxing vacation.:lmao:

The kids said the dolphin encounter was the best.:thumbsup2 DD has always loved dolphins, seals, whales, etc...When they asked for the first volunteer she wasted no time running right out to meet the dolphin, Tracy was it's name. They have 16 dolphins that were rescued from Hurricane Katrina. The aquarium they were living in was destroyed, 8 of them washed out to sea during the hurricane, but they managed to get them back. They had all been born in captivity, so none of them could survive in the wild.

DD was just giddy with delight, this has been a dream of her's for many years, so it was so fun seeing her face.

Priority chart? I don't need no stinking priority chart HMMPH! :snooty:
Having an apartment full of teen boys playing video games and then a MIL visit far exceeds any other priorities. Heck I haven;t even had a chance to lay hands on a computer until now! Major withdrawals...

We bought Bolt on Saturday.. thanks to a $5 coupon emailed fomr Disney and two rebates to send .. it will be cheaper than renting it. We didn't see it in theatre, it was fun to kick back in my room (away from the stinky teen boys) and watch it with MIL and hubby. I like it :) Not sure if it would have been as good without Rhino.. freaking hilarious!! The bonus short starrring Rhino was funny stuff, had to explain one part... hubby didn't get the Miley Cyrus reference. I fell over laughing hard when I saw it. :lmao: :rotfl: :rotfl2:

Saturday night I treated my sis to Orchestra tickets, sampler concert of the upcoming '09-'10 season. It was great, sis didn't care for the pops part of the program but I liked it.
I may even buy a ticket for the Sounds of Cinema concert when they feature Wizard of Oz.. the piece they played for the sampler concert was wonderfully done. They will play music and have film screening, with Judy Garland magically singing along with the orchestra. ;) My family would love that.

They had a special offer for B1 G1 concert subscriptions, waited in a line for the entire intermission and signed up for a 3 concert series on "Inside the Classics". It's a special series where they discuss the piece of music, the composer or other insights and then the orchestra plays the entire piece.

The theme is music inspired by nature: Beethoven's no 6 Pastural , Debussy's Le Mur and part of Vivaldi's Four Seasons.
I'm not that much into classical.. but I do like these particular pieces... and my sis loves all of it.

Splitting the cost it averages to $13 per concert, sitting in the one step above the cheapie seats. :yay:

Typically the lowest cost seats are $20 per concert, those are limited and sell out quickly.

Sis was drooling over the other subscriptions series.. ones that have 5, 9 or even 24 concerts :faint:
umm, no thanks sis.. let's go for umm, dare I say it...

the cheap tickets :lmao:

Sounds like your going to have a lot of great concerts to enjoy. In Portland our concert/symphony/play halls have a great deal for students. Show up 1 hour before the show and if any tickets are available you can buy them for you and up to 3 friends for $10 each. They will give you the best seats that are available at the time you purchase.:thumbsup2 As long as the kids has a photo student ID they will accept it...high school, elementary, college, they don't care as long as 1 of the people is a student.

Hi, all!

I'm taking a quick break to pop in for a sec. :)

Today was a GORGEOUS, sunny day! Unbelievable!:lovestruc

Fred Meyer was having a sale on a bunch of their gardening stuff so we went and bought a bunch of stuff to decorate the yard: geraniums, fuschia starts, 3 hanging pots, and potting soil. After the massive infection in my finger, I got smart and bought gardening gloves.

We got home, threw the kids into their bedrooms so they could clean them, then headed out to the yard. We weeded and tilled a little strip next to the front walkway and planted a bunch of geraniums there, and potted the hanging planters with fuschia starts and hung them up. Also potted a big round shallow planter with petunias and put that out on the porch. Maybe tomorrow we will get out in the backyard and weed, till and plant the rest; I usually have a border of geraniums along the back patio, too, and several planters as well.

Wheeee, finally some color after a wet, dreary winter! :yay:

The kids seem to have spent the afternoon making more mess instead of less, but I can't say it's all that unexpected, just a little disappointing. This week is DS8's spring break, and we have activities planned for some of the days. I told him we might not be able to do those if his room is still unnavigable. Let's see if that provides any motivation...

Hope you all are having fun. (Yes, Sam, it looks like YOU had fun at least!) :thumbsup2

Oh Alison your pictures are amazing! The water is pretty. It looks like you had a fabulous time.

Tell me, would you recommend a cruise for a honeymoon?

No I would not recommend a cruise for a honeymoon. UNLESS you have already been on one before and know that motion sickness is not a problem for either of you. I just don't think it would be a lot of fun if you never quite felt good. Even using the transcop patch I still felt a bit queasy. Plus the patch makes you have dry mouth and can cause blurry vision.

But I wonder if the Mediterranean cruises are better, seas aren't as rough, so motion might not be a problem. Even my DD who has never had motion sickness a day in her life started feeling queasy after about 2 hours at sea and had to wear a patch.

Maybe it's me, but spending my vacation in a cramped tiny room and partying with 2,000 other people is not really my idea of a fun honeymoon. It just didn't seem like an intimate place, KWIM?

Now I would recommend the Atlantis hotel on Paradise Island, Bahamas for a honeymoon. I think we are going to try and go there next year for spring break. But it is very expensive, although I have signed up for their email discounts, so hopefully we can get a good room rate. However, I've learned that you can stay at the Comfort Suites across the street for half the price and still have access to everything at the Atlantis. So that's probably the route we will go.

Today Tour Guide Alison has a local day planned. I just rousted the kids out of bed and we are going to the Brevard Zoo this morning. It's a small local zoo, but they allow you to get very near the animals...you can even pet the giraffes. Also, you get a kayak ride thru the park. You can choose either the African Exhibit or the Florida Wildlife kayak tour. So we are headed there this morning before the weather gets too hot.

Then this afternoon we are headed to Ron Jon's Surf Shop in Cocoa Beach. It's a big tourist trap, but a really cool tourist trap. I expect to walk around and run into Jeff Spicoli!:rotfl2: Maybe have lunch somewhere in between the two places, walk out on the pier and just enjoy the 80 degree weather. I just looked at our weather forecast at home...36 degrees this morning. I so made the right choice coming here. I can only imagine how mad the kids would have been if we had gone the "local route" for spring break. Yep, we could be sitting down at the beach right now cramped into a little travel trailer watching the wind and rain!:thumbsup2

It's sunny outside but very windy at the same time. I didn't like the weather yesterday....it was very hot and I had to turn on the fan last night to keep cool. :faint:

This morning I got breakfast from Mc Donald's...their pancakes......bone-headed me accidentally spilled some syrup which landed on my shirt and pants. :headache: :sad2: I guess you could say I put myself in a "sticky situation."  I had 2 shout wipes in my purse and used it.

:cool1:San Diego!! Now that is hard to take!! I hope you guys can make a go of it!!!

Helloooo ladies! Pixter sent me a new signature! I'm showing it off, do you all like it??I love it!!! But I'm hurt that you got rid of the Christmas trees I sent to you....... :snooty:

Man alive, our thread has become a ghost town! :sad2: Time to bust a move? NO! A priority chart! :rotfl:

sigh.. crap..

E was running fine, halfway thru treatment and leaned a little on his arm while readjusting his body in the chair.

crap now what? :headache:

He felt the needle (arterial yet again) suck up to the side of the vessel.

Flipped the needle.. tried to restart. Nope.
Flipped and wiggled here.. wiggled there.. Nope and Nope.
Barely start the pump and he is hitting pressures of 270, 300, 380, 400 (max is to be only 250).

DING DING DING

Tossing out alarms and machine is stopping the pump.

Screw it he says, zero out all of it and call it a day.

I don't get it, neither does he or his team.

:confused::confused::confused::confused:

ah well, another day and try again. :upsidedowBernice, that is the pits.:headache: I hope you all can get the problem figured out real soon!!

Well the Mother Ship is calling me home. Did you really think I would be able to come to Florida and not go to WDW? Tomorrow we are turning in the rental car early, heading over to Blizzard Beach with my sister and nephew. Then I booked us a room at the All Stars Music for the night. Blizzard Beach closes at 5pm, so we will just eat at the hotel and tuck in for an early to bed night. Figure we can sleep in a bit Wednesday morning and then head to DTD for a bit. We then catch the Magical Express bus to the airport around 3pm, flight leaves at 6pm......sigh....then we are back home:):thumbsup2, but the weather seems to be in the low 40's and rainy:eek::scared1:.

If any of you ever head to WDW and decide to go to Cocoa Beach or over to the Kennedy Space Center, you must go to the Brevard Zoo. It is totally unlike any zoo I have ever been to. It is all in a natural setting, many of the animals are so close you can touch them. Yes, many of them are in cages, but even the inside of their cages looks like the jungle. Admission was about $10 for adults and a few bucks less for kids. We paid for the deluxe adventurer package and it was only $19 each. For that price we got to feed the birds (either nectar or seed sticks), our choice of the Africa or Florida kayak adventure, and fed the giraffes. Their food was very good and reasonably priced, $5 for hamburger and chips, $2 ice cream, $3 snack tray w/grapes, cheese cubes, carrots and mini crackers...and it tasted good too. The zoo is mainly run by volunteers and they take the time to explain things...we were looking at reptiles and a volunteer came over and took animals out for us to touch and told us all about them. It was so awesome. Their petting zoo had deer, emu, armadillos, tortoises and goats. It was such a hands on zoo, we were there from 10am-3pm.

That's fun tidbit to know. :)

There is something about smaller volunteer run zoos, you can tell the workers care about the animals and typically have some little perk for patrons. We have a free zoo in St Paul (Como Park), it's small which makes it perfect size for little ones to enjoy. There too you can get a little closer to the animals, feeding station for seals, petting zoo area and a show with Sparky the Seal. :thumbsup2 They have had to rebuild and reinforce the exterior wall for the gorillas.. one likes to escape every few years.
Next door to the zoo is the conservatory (also free) which is a treat in wintertime. Hot and humid tropical plants inside.. outside you see snow drifts piled outside the glass wallls.
In the summer they have a tiny amusement park, dorky carnival type rides (for preschoolers, don't think an adult would fit!) and a beautiful carrousel that is over 150 years old. Plus you can walk down to the lake and they have concerts in the bandshell, golf course, picnic grounds....

It was created to be similar to New York's Central Park.

We are being hit with two bands of storm systems.. rain from the south and a blizzard that is losing it's OOMPH as it approaches from the northwest (North Dakota had white out conditions yesterday).

Followed with more snow on April 1st, no joke people. blaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah

It would be very good for these systems to just go away.. worrisome weather for the flooded areas in the Red River valley, they thought things were getting better.. now they aren't so sure.

Hubby was cheering on the blizzard, he wanted a break from his eagerly awaiting spring break crazed students.
uhh, dear? You do realize that we rarely close schools here in the metro.. right? The boys have had what.. maybe one snow break day in their entire life??? :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:

I love zoos! I'll have to keep this one in mind if I ever make it to that side of the US. DBF and I try to hit the zoo any time we go somewhere new. We went to the Phoenix Zoo after the Supercross a few months back. I think that is my favorite zoo so far.

Good Morning Everyone,

I think I was having a kerfuffle of a day yesterday. First I spilled syrup on my clothes. Then I went to Target after work and bought a Feria' brand hair coloring kit. When I got home I wondered why there were 2 tubes of the shimmering conditioner inside. :confused3 I mixed the product and then applied some to the top of my hair. I look at the coloring wondering why the mixture isn't red like the color shown on the box. I look at the coloring serum and notice that it's golden brown and not red. :scared1: At least it wasn't beach blonde or something, which would probably really stand out. :faint:

I called Target back and asked to speak to a manager. The manager was super nice as I explained the situation. She put me on hold and went to search to see if they had the correct color. She found 1 and put it on hold in Guest Relations and told me to pick it up at no charge.

I quickly rinsed my hair, threw on some sweats and out the door I went. I drove like Cruella de Ville on the freeway. Target was closing in less than 20 minutes (cue the mission impossible theme song). I made it 10 minutes to closing time. :faint:

I checked the box and it's contents before I left. Everything matched and so off I went. The coloring is okay but it's not as red as I want it to be. I might just get highlights today but I need to find out the pricing form the salon first.

Forget to share from yesterday.. we drove back home after going out to eat, busy main street thru our suburb, a bit of a wooded area but not that dense because you can see houses further back. On one side of the road is a little creek, the other side has a small man made lake more houses and bit of woods. Further back in that area is the highschool and a few industrial businesses., railroad tracks, a small lake/picnic area.

Not a place where you would expect to see a deer leaping in front of your car and crossing to the other side of the street to dart into the woods (on the lake side). Just one, a doe... I did a quick look while hubby slowed down. Just in case it had a mate following.

There were deer in a penned in area a few miles away, would see them even in daytime walking along a fence line that bordered a school where I worked. Fun to show to city kids in poverty households (Head Start). The deer were known to come out at night beyond the fence to graze in a field. It was a city water works area that after 9/11 added more fences.. penning in a rather large grouping of deer. They had hunters go in and shoot them all two years ago. I wonder if this lone deer was a descendant that wandered off the property, merrily wandering the tiny bits of woods in the middle of a bustling city. At least it will stay safe during the fall hunting season. :upsidedow

Busy day today, had to watch the lil guy while sis was at a doc appt... new doc/clinic so it took her over two hours :faint:
As she came back to pick him up , we had a large UPS delivery of dialysis supplies to help lug up the stairs. Then E and I were off to pull more things out of his classroom cabinets at school.

Cleaned out 4 more cabinets and 6 drawers.. trying to sort thru and figure out what to keep, what to toss. And scratching our heads while saying, what the heck were they thinking??!!

Now it looks like his room has exploded with science equipment, chemicals, papers, books, lab specimens... all strewn across his classroom, lab and storage room.
He had a chance to ask the Vice Principal.. what is this? and what was it used for?? He didn't know either. :lmao:

Found a few eyedropper vials with liquid inside.. no label! Cracked lids, open containers of chemicals, corn starch powder in open container that had dusted interior of cabinets ( or at least we hope it is cornstarch).

Rechargeable batteries in one cabinet, across the room in another.. the chargers.
Notes, personal items, clothing left from the last teacher.. why would you not come back and pick it up?? :confused3

E was thinking it will take him two days to reorganize.. I voted for at least three days. I will be going with him during break next week.

It's jsut sad that past teachers didn't take care of the supplies, ordering more when there were already doubles, triples of the same in the cabinet. Waste of money.

I'm doing well. Had some delays on our flight home and didn't end up getting home until about 2am Thursday. So still a bit tired. Spent the last couple of days at work trying to get caught up on things. I'm going to get up early tomorrow and go in for a bit also, maybe Sunday too. Other than work and unpacking, not much else happening.

What about yourself?

Yikes, I hate delayed flights. :( I'm glad you got home safely. :)

Nothing much going on with me....very boring Friday night....just spending it at home

Hola ladies. It's Saturday, lunch time here. I imagine most of you are snuggled in your beds.

Pixter what do you think of the Time Traveler's Wife? I wasn't all that crazy about it, but everyone rants and raves about it.

Not too sure what I'm going to do today. Maybe a little cleaning, maybe a movie. Definitely have shower. Anyway, have a great weekend everyone!

Howdy Peoples!!!

Today is my only day off this week :faint:

We knew (secret insider information) that we would have a MAJOR inspection, so I was there just to make sure all went good :thumbsup2 (we got a 94.1) :yay:

Today I took the kiddos to the Easter egg hunt - it was super windy and cold, but they had a blast. It is so much fun to go to community events - because we always see the same people. Teachers, coworkers, kids in the same classes, kids from sports - I really love my small community :goodvibes

That reminds me of a funny story - power went out at work yesterday. The town I work at is super tiny compared to where we live - population 3000. I call the lady from APS, give her my address, including town, and then she asks for my crossroads :lmao::lmao::lmao:. I had to explain to her that we had two stoplights and one major street - and assured her they would have no problem finding me!!! :lmao::lmao::lmao:

Yesterday was sunny and starting to warm up again. Today, back to the gray and cooler temps. Forecast predicted snow, but it's too warm right now (40's) maybe at night time. Or we will get that icky slushy rain/snow mix- yuck!

We made a trek out to the closest Trader Joe's this morning... busy shopping area. Lots of people roaming the store, looking for goodies.
We got:
chili spiced mango slices- yum!
chocolate covered cranberries -- E picked them out
nuts
fruit leather
Joe-Joe's (the boys already ate 1/2 the box, store bought cookies is a rare treat here)
frozen bell peppers (cheaper than buying fresh)
frozen cubes of crushed garlic (cute packge and incredibly smart idea!)
orange chicken (read reviews and everyone raves about it )
Guacomole (darn samples sucked E into buying it
pomegranate limeade (again sample lured him in)
garlic hummos
tzitki sauce
vegie tortilla flaxseed chips (yummy!, hubby is trying to increase omega 3's)
green curry simmer sauce (something new for us to try)
buffalo bugers w mushroom and cheese
chili lime chicken burgers
tamales (slightly cheaper than our fave mexican deli.. we shall see..we've become tamale snobs over the years, not many measure up to our fave place in St Paul)
plaintain chips (hmm, intersting but good)
pizza dough (again rave reviews, cheap for the convenience, one less thing for me to do)
and
choc covered frozen bananas (sweet! screw DL prices, I gots me my favey treat woohooo! Hope they are good!)

We decided Trader Joe's is in the good for you junk food category of shopping, fun to find little treasures that we can't find at our local grocery chain (or not quite as healthy, inexpensive, or as good as Trader Joe's brand).
Eventually we will find our faves and make it a regular shopping trip.

I know Pix and Sara shop at Tj"s.. any faves to share???

ahh, but does the almighty computer recognize your address?
For some reason mine does not exist on certain networks.

I couldn't order online for Pizza Hut (coupon deal) because it tried to place me in a city 100 miles away...grrrr.
Or it changes my county road to county route... umm nooooo that's not it.
Or placed me on another (albeit nearby) county road... still not it.

The roads were named long ago, we have county roads D, E, E2, H, I ..... all of them not what you would consider rural. I have a major snow emergency route at my street corner, lots of cars trolling thu the intersection every hour of the day.

Not as good as DL chiquita branded ones, but still yummoliciousness. Maybe if I bury them in the bottom of my deep freeze? (It was a consistency issue, like almost too ripe of a banana.. melty squishy a little too fast.)

Programs like Mapquest take you to I-5, near my house, but then put a big exclamation mark and say...WARNING, there are 4 miles between the end of this map and your destination.:lmao:

Which of course leads me to ask the obvious question...if the computer program knows how far it is to my house from the freeway, why can't it just give the directions?:confused3

I also have the problem of living in a town that is split by 2 different counties. I live in Cowlitz County, but there is an address identical to mine in Clark County, across the river. Many of the programs lead you to that other address. Then to add to the confusion, our county changed our street name and address about 4 years ago. But apparently once your address is in a computer program...well good luck trying to change it.

Pizza delivery - you are a funny lady!!! At least now we can order from Dominoes and have it delivered :thumbsup2. Our Pizza Hut doesn't even deliver

Pizza Hut?? Dominoes?? Boy that is just a dream for me. No large pizza chains here. Sadly, no pizza delivery either.

Sounds yummy. Every once in a while I get the chocolate banana dip that is sold in the produce department and make my own frozen chocolate bananas.

I've been going to Whole Foods recently. I noticed that some items have dropped in price (such as their fruit) and sometimes they have bargains on items.

At Trader Joe's I like their seedless grapes, my favorite cheese is also carried there: Cotswold. It's delicious! I buy it at Whole Foods sometimes because they sell it in a small hunk and the one at Trader Joe's is cheaper but the hunk is too big. Okay, did I just make cheese sound like a hunk-o-licious man? :rotfl: They also sell good chocolate chunk cookies. :lovestruc

Hi Guys. Just logged onto Facebook and found that one of the Komen ladies was re-diagnosed with Stage 4 breast cancer. That means the cancer has spread to her bones. Her kids are 8 & 11. It just breaks my heart to hear that news. It seems like everytime that I try to get on with my life and distance myself from breast cancer, another one of my friends or Komen friends gets diagnosed. When I read her post I felt like it just ripped my insides out, I don't know any other way to describe it. It just makes me feel like that day that I was diagnosed, I don't know whether to cry or scream or both or what.

I haven't posted on Komen message board for a couple of months. I felt like I just needed to take a break. But every time that I do, something like this happens and I feel like I need to go back.

Sorry, I'm just rambling. I don't even know this lady real well and I'm sitting here crying. To tell the truth I guess it just scares me.

I LOVE the chili mangos! I used to get them at the mexican market but they are so much better and cheaper at Trader Joes. We do most of out shopping at Trader Joes, fruits and veggie, organic milk. I love their Salsa Verde, DBF like the frozen fish that come pre-marinated. Good Morning Everyone,

I can't believe the weekend is over :( I'm happy that we get this Friday off of work (Good Friday). I probably won't be hitting DL because I'm almost certain it will be packed.

We have the exterminator coming to the house today. This means I will have to wash our bed sheets and bath towels when I get home.

On Saturday my bf and I went to Universal Citywalk. I was sad to see that Cafe Tu Tu Tango had closed down :( That was one of my favorite restaraunts. There were a few stores in Citywalk that closed. They used to have a Nascar arcade racing place but it's now been replaced by a candy store called Sugar. We decided to eat at Bubba Gump's Shrimp Co. instead.

Yesterday my bf and I watched Monsters vs. Aliens in 3D yesterday. The movie had some funny parts, it actually wasn't bad. I noticed that one of the characters had a badge/pin of Shrek on his uniform. :thumbsup2

After the movie we were trying to figure out where to eat. We had not eaten all day and it was already 5pm. A lot of restaraunts were either closed on Sunday's or out of business. We went over to Famous Dave's but there were a lot of people waiting for a table out front. We decided to just eat at Island's instead.

I've never been to Islands. What type of food do they have there? We went to Red Robin last night and the food was terrible. So was the service. We complained to the manager and he comped up our meal. But we didn't even eat the food it so it didn't matter anyway. :rotfl:

Hi Guys! Just dumped spaghetti all over myself.:rotfl2: Our microwave at work sits up high, the shelf is next to the fridge and is 5' tall. So as you can imagine I have to be careful when taking things out of the microwave.

Anyway, I heat up my spaghetti, carefully putting a paper plate over the top so it doesn't splatter all over while heating. I grab the paper plate off and it seems that half of the spaghetti decided to cling to the top of the paper plate. It came down in big chunks all over in my hair, down my shirt, down the crotch of my pants before landing on the floor. Uggh, what a mess! But oh so funny at the same time.:rotfl2::lmao::rotfl:

My friend is 8 days overdue with her baby, she's going in for some stretching stuff today so hopefully she has that baby tonight! I think everyone is more excited than she is, unless she's just good at hiding her excitement.

That's all I have to say. I hope you're doing snazzy.

Good morning all! I got home from work last night to find that DBF and his friend had torn out all the carpet in the house (except for the bedrooms). :scared1: They are going to lay tile through out the whole house and then replace the carpet in the bedrooms later on. They said that there was so much dirt under the carpet. No wonder we go through vaccuums like no body's business. :rotfl: We live down a dirt road and the whole back yard is dirt and it gets really windy where I live. Plus having two dogs probably didn't help either. I think the tile's going to be really nice. I want to go look for a big rug for the living room now.
