do you have to change the yr every yr or is it more that it is copyrighted no matter what the actual copyright says( ie the current yr )

I think the copyright should be the year the photo was taken..

Copyright is based on the year it was first "published" or taken for the most part.
It carries forward from there! :woohoo:

Pictures are automatically copyrighted as intellectual property. To actually act on that you have to register them, its about 35 bucks per picture, but you don't need to bother until they are stolen basically assuming you can show you took the picture.
I think most people mark them to remind others of this.
