When you book BWV, I thought it was standard and preferred only? That you can request a boardwalk view but nothing is guarenteed? Am I incorrect? Can you request and be sure of a baordwalk view or just a "preferred view"?

Thoughts?

Boardwalk view is a guaranteed view, not just a request. You'll know when you make the reservation if you have it or not.

Is there a point difference between the two?

Preferred v. Preferred Boardwalk?

I rented points and was told it was preferred but preferred boardwalk

That sucks!:grouphug:

They are the same points. It used to be just preferred, no guarantees. About 5 years ago, they decided to guarantee one or the other because there were alot of problems at check-in when people were disappointed that they did not get their preference. It was supposed to be assigned based on date of reservation but that didn't always work out. When they came out with the "room ready" system, where rooms were assigned at check-in, they decided to guarantee one or the other in advance.

I personally love it. We pay higher dues at BWV than other WDW DVC. BWV members should get the first crack at the boardwalk view, just as AKV members get first crack at savannah view and BLT members will get first crack on the MK view. I always book it right at 11 months.

Boardwalk view is just that, a view of the boardwalk. What DVC calls a preferred view will be a Garden, Pool or Water view.

The garden view may be of the village green. The village green has a quite respectable side view of the boardwalk as well. If you secure the boardwalk view, you will have a spectacular head-on view.

I actually got upgraded to a boardwalk view for my room at Christmas! I only stayed for a few days, Jan 1-3, but I loved it, as I have never been upgraded before, and I have been a member since 96! It's a direct view of the water, right above the boardwalk. We were above the Screen Door on the second floor, and even had a big balcony.:goodvibes If you are a people watcher, it's the best view in the world!;)

This may be a silly question, but this will be my first stay at BWV, so any help is appreciated. In booking the Boardwalk view, is it possible that you will have a view of any fireworks? Thanks!

From boardwalk view you can see the upper fireworks of Illuminations from your porch; you can also see on a clear evening way off in the distance the higher fireworks at MK although they are really too far away to be considered impressive from where you are.

We were upgraded to a BW view on our visit in Jan (10th) as well! We only stayed 1 night and we were also on the 2nd floor above the Screen Door.

I wanted to just stay in the room and enjoy the view. :)

Yes, very possible. Higher is better, you can ask for 4th or 5th floor if a room is available.
