View Full Version : Disney Photography LOST our Pictures

I don't usually post here, though I do read quite a bit. We just got back from our Disney wedding where everything went PERFECT except for one thing. And since there is always talk about Disney vs. non-Disney photographers, I thought I would let you all know what happened to us...
Disney photography just called and they have lost ALL of our pictures from the in-park photo shoot we did with them. I am so, so glad we did not use them on our wedding day - I can't even imagine. We were really looking forward to our pictures, and I just can't believe they have no idea where our photos are.
The manager I talked to told me not to expect them finding the pictures either... :confused3
We will never be in Disney again for our wedding, and they lost something we were really looking forward to and will never be able to get back.

OMG!!!! That is awful!!!:guilty: I am a professional photographer, and I could never let something like that happen. My reputation would be ruined!!! I cannot believe that it happened to you. What are they offering as compensation??? I hope that they will pay to bring you to the park to redo your shoot. I would make a big fuss about this!!

omg!!! im so sorry to hear that!!!! wow....are they going to try to make it up to you somehow???? thank you for posting this here....this is the exact reason I am AGAINST Disney making rules against outside photographers in the parks. Its ridiculous when brides are left with only sub-par service as their option. I'm so sorry, very very sorry this had to happen to you.

Anyone who's been married at Disney can have an in-park bridal photo shoot again whenever they want, and they should certainly give you a free one.
However, I can understand what a hassle this is - we considered doing another shoot because our pix were so bad, but when we calculated the cost of renting another tux, steaming the dress, getting a new bouquet, hiring hair & makeup, etc., it would have cost us at least $500 for our "free" do-over shoot.
What I can't understand is how they misplaced digital photos. Accidentally erased/had the camera's memory card fail - that I get. But misplaced...? :confused3

WOW I am soooo sorry that happened to you! That totally seals the deal that I am NOT using Disney for our Escape wedding. It is included in the package so it seems almost silly to pay again for something you already "bought"... and some brides pics have turned out well... BUT "LOST"! I hope they are majorly compensating you for this! You deserve more than just a re-do.

Oh no! That is terrible... Hang on.
Unless you live in Orlando, it will likely cost some time and money for you both to attend this do-over, right? Snow White, I hope Disney will be able to make it up to you somehow, and please persist until they can give you something more (than just an apology and a reshoot)... It is their fault this happened, not yours.
Needless to say, there are a lot of Disney brides on this forum awaiting your next update on this situation.

Seriously, I would make a big do about it and demand they give me hotel, dining plan during the time I would have to come back and do the shoot.

Sorry isn't going to cut it. This is Disney, where dreams come true...everything is suppose to be PERFECT! Especially for wedding if it's not spot on...they owe you you're money back and that doesn't fall short of an apology either. I can't beleive everyone is so nonchalant about this.
I would raise bloody hell if this were to happen to me. And whatever poster said "they took it over for free but we had to pay to get there" is a fool. This is Disney World....go above whoevers head you must to make your day your special day.
I'm already against the hype of Disney weddings but i'm here because my sister is having hers there...Disney dropped my daughters 1st birthday cake at one of their restaurants in front of Tigger & his gang and I've had nightmares since lol (okay so not really nightmares) but that experiance had me like wondering - what is the greatest place on earth doing messing up everyones dreams?
Legally what contracts did you sign that said you can't be compenstated for their error?

This is so sad- Disney needs to make this right for you! If it were me, I would make some noise. Some loud noise. I don't mean screaming and yelling, I mean getting to all the right people and expecting some help. Pictures are always precious. But wedding photos inside the parks? A once in a lifetime precious that you need to be compensated for. Good luck- and on a happier note, congratulations on your marriage!!:goodvibes

What are they offering as compensation??? I hope that they will pay to bring you to the park to redo your shoot. I would make a big fuss about this!!
I saw our photographer backing up all the time. She even had a laptop with her assistant to make copies of photos. Again, I am just so glad we did not use Disney on our wedding day!
omg!!! im so sorry to hear that!!!! wow....are they going to try to make it up to you somehow???? thank you for posting this here....this is the exact reason I am AGAINST Disney making rules against outside photographers in the parks. Its ridiculous when brides are left with only sub-par service as their option. I'm so sorry, very very sorry this had to happen to you.
Right now all Disney offered was to redo the shoot any time in the next year. I wasn't really in the mood to talk to the photography manager at that point so I just got his contact details. But I completely agree with you about their new rules against outside photographers in the parks. Disney's services are too hit and miss to do that. By the way, we got married on the same day :goodvibes
:confused3
Not only is it a hassle the day of the shoot - but you also have to include the cost to get to Disney, stay at Disney, eat at Disney, etc...we do love it there but we just spent a week at Disney, plus a wedding, plus a 2.5 week honeymoon and a vacation for some photos isn't really what we had planned for this year.
As for the photo misplacement - I guess that means they deleted them. From what I could gather, they cannot find the photos on their server nor can they find the backup disk that is supposed to be made of all pictures when they are downloaded on to the server :confused3
OMG i am so sorry about this! How could they just lose your pictures like that? will they reimburse you??? I am so so sorry
They offered to do another shoot, but we just don't know if that will work for us...
they are redoing our one this year as our photos were awful. we have to pay for everything but it was important for us to have these pics so we are going again in aug to have a re shoot
I would def complain about it
That is horrible that they are making you pay for another shoot even though the fist one was awful. I love Disney, but their photography department really needs some work!
OH I am so sorry! :sad2:
That is just messed up. I don't understand how they lost the pictures. That is scary. I am so sorry that happened to you. Maybe the next time you go down you can redo it? :confused3
They did offer to redo it, but it costs a lot to get to that point so I'm not sure what we are going to decide to do.
:scared1:
That is just so awful! I can't believe that they would be so careless!
I know :guilty:
That is horrible! I am so sorry! I will cross my fingers for you, you never know sometimes miracles happen, here is to hoping they DO find them....:wizard:
Thank you!
I'm very sorry to hear that! That is so awful. They better do something very magical to make up for that!:wizard: Thanks for the heads up and I hope they somehow find your pics!
I thought Disney was wonderful in every other way, but pictures cannot be replaced or made up so I thought people should know that these things DO happen.
I am soo sorry to hear that! I mean I know that that has always been a big fear of mine, but at least you have the wedding pictures. Those are definitely irreplaceable! I hope they find them or figure out a way to compensate you!
Yes, we were very lucky with using an outside photographer and she was really great! But we still want our in-park pictures too :sad2:
Wow, I can't believe this happened! I hope your are compensated for this.
We're working on thinking of something at the moment...
WOW I am soooo sorry that happened to you! That totally seals the deal that I am NOT using Disney for our Escape wedding. :scared1: :scared1: :scared1: LOST?!?!?!? How do you loose someone's wedding pictures?!?!?! How Horrible!!
What is Disney doing to make it right for you???
Right now they have only offered to redo the session which I don't think is very fair.
I am so sorry that’s awful :sad1: I think were going to pay for another photographer too as I've read too many horror stories on here.
I hope you get lots of pixie dust to make up for this

I hope so too.

I will certainly update you as we find a solution, but all they are offering right now is to redo the shoot...nothing more

I am so sorry - I know a lot of people have luck with them, but I just wanted to share what could happen :sad2:
What!!! That is insane. They better redo it for you or give you your money back. That is just stupid of them!
Sorry.
I agree - I don't know how they could just lose photos!
That’s terrible, I hope you get some compensation.

I hope this situation is resolved and more than just doing another shoot or giving you back your money. Seriously, I would make a big do about it and demand they give me hotel, dining plan during the time I would have to come back and do the shoot.
As I said in my first post, Disney was great with everything else and we couldn't have been happier. But then this happens and it really made both of us so sad. We were looking forward to those pictures. DF would ask about them all the time and he isn't even a picture loving guy. I will certainly keep you all updated with a resolution.
Sorry isn't going to cut it. This is Disney, where dreams come true...everything is suppose to be PERFECT! Especially for wedding if it's not spot on...they owe you you're money back and that doesn't fall short of an apology either. I can't believe everyone is so nonchalant about this.

Legally what contracts did you sign that said you can't be compensated for their error?
Again, Disney weddings was great, it is just Disney photography that seems to be the problem. Right now they aren't being much help, but I didn't stay on the phone with them long either - I wasn't in the mood to talk or negotiate. I will keep you all updated with what happens.
That is beyond horrible. And the attitude from the manager seems so callous and blase. Grrrrrrrrrr (on your behalf!):furious:
Yeah, he didn't seem to care much, offer much, or have much of an explanation. And what really bugs me is that I had both called and e-mailed just to check in and see if we could get a date to see our pictures and both times they told me that they were a little behind but our site would be ready very soon. Yet the manager told me that they had been looking for our pictures for two weeks...if they knew there was a problem they should have told me right away instead of lying to us about the situation!
I am a total push-over and not a scene-maker at all. If a waiter angers me they get 15% instead of 20%. :rotfl:
But wow. I would raise holy hell if I were you and not stop until the photo shoot was redone and the expenses that go along with it are covered.

We may have to go above him to find a solution - but for now my husband and I are trying to think of a solution to ask for that would make us feel better...

Thank you so much - the wedding was wonderful and we love being married. I guess if this is the only downside it's not too bad - though Disney photography certainly needs to get their act together!

So I told you I would all come back and let you know how things go - I have talked with Disney photography several times - both this weekend and today. They had REFUSED any type of compensation or reimbursement except for offering a reshoot. They will NOT give us our money back and they will not pay any expenses for us to travel back down to Florida for a reshoot. The person I talked to did not seem sympathetic at all to our situation. This is very disappointing and I would NEVER recommend Disney photography to anyone :sad2:

we had the same problem when our MK photos were awful, they said how great they were!! most were out of focus and very dark and the castle cut off!!
They only offered us a reshoot with no help with anything else.
I think its bad when they lost your photos and they are only offereing a reshoot when you have nothing for your money. I would tkae it futher if you could *** thats terrible customer service, they are in the wrong

My question is
have you only been talking to one person at photography
think its time to get someone higher up to talk with
How is your Coordinator helping? He/she should be doing something on your behalf as well….if only giving you the number of the right VP to contact
Skylarr29

I agree with Wendy. Is your planner involved? If not I would get them involved ASAP. What about contacting the president of Disney Fairy Tale Weddings? I know someone on here will probably have his phone number. This is not an acceptable solution. You do not have what you paid for, forget the fact of having hair and makeup done etc. I can see if you were complaining that your photos were bad, but lost? Give me a break. I would take legal action if they refuse to do anything. Disney does not like bad publicity.

Could you get the press involved as no business likes bad publicity?
In the UK we have a thing called the Citizens Advice Bureau who offer free advice on situations such as this to explain your rights, do you have anything like that in the USA?

Because they know people aren't going to want to endure the time and frustration of hiring a lawyer and such....they do what they want to do.
I really don't get the hype of most of you wanting Disney to take your photographs. You need to have someone who if the service isn't performed per the contract your money can be refunded. Had you chosen your own photog this wouldn't be an issue.

Well, if you want an in-park shoot, you don't have a choice. At least with Disney you know they aren't going out of business and suddenly disappearing with your photos to never appear (like some brides who have gone through other photographers) Of course, you don't expect them to "lose" them either (which I still think sounds awfully fishy....how exactly did they "lose" them?)
But in either case, this is unacceptable in so many ways! Get your planner involved, I can't believe they won't at the very, very least refund your money...what is it you paid for exactly? Last time I check, an hour in the park is not $1000

I am ticked for you! If you would like to draw attention to your situation I would contact a columnist at the Orlando Sentinel. Any one who has a problem with a company, he follows up to make sure something gets done about it. More importantly, I think because it is the area's premier newspaper and anything mentioned, no company wants to have a bad impression and resolves the matter to the customer's benefit. The following is his information:
Getting the runaround? E-mail Greg at gdawson@orlandosentinel.com; or call 407-420-5618; or write to Greg Dawson, Orlando Sentinel, 633 N. Orange Ave., MP-218, Orlando FL 32801. Read his blog at OrlandoSentinel.com/consumerfile.
I hope that helps! :thumbsup2

That just isnt acceptable. You should get a lawyer involved, if you must. Did you pay for this on your credit carD? Can you dispute it with them? I imagine its too late for that at this point, but just a thought.
Get a lawyer, they have NO defense. You will have to wait a bit to get it resolved, but at least it will be resolved fair. You will def win!

I know I just posted but I just can't stop thinking about this.
I don't see why you can't get your money back. Your contract with them was that you paid for a service (having pictures taken) they didn't follow through with that service (lost pictures) therefore you should get your money back. That is a breach of contract IMO.

That does not make sense at all. it was their fault that they lost your images and it was really stupid of them to lose them in the first place.
I don't get why they are refusing to give you some type of compensation. It's just insane and not right at all.

First, this is totally horrendous.
I would contact your wedding coordinator for sure. Raise hell with her, tell her you are a part of disboards and this will NOT reflect positively on them if it gets out etc. Do whatever you have to.
I think your coordinator would be sympathetic to your plight more than the Disney photogs.
If she can't do anything, contact the heads of both Disney Photography AND DFTW.
In the end, you could always have your lawyer call them. If you have a friend that's a lawyer, let them look over your contract and have them give the higher ups a call. Sometimes just the THREAT of legal action can start somethings in motion.
It's idiotic that they aren't offerring to give you back your money. They should refund for their breach of contract AND re-shoot you IF you so choose. They need to make reasonable compensation for THEIR mistake....
just keep telling yourself that this IS NOT your fault and that you DESERVE better compensation.

I think that's horrible and I think Disney is biting themselves in the butt with not fixing this.:sad2:
Now I don't have a Disney Photography contract, but what does the liability clause of the contract say? Does it specifically limit them in damages to only a reshoot? If you signed that, (which any bride would), you're going to have a hard row to hoe. :confused3

I have been following your thread since the beginning, but am only posting now. I just have to say this is ridiculous! Disney is 100% at fault and you are 100% right to refund and reshoot! I think I can speak for everyone when I say you have the full support of all of the DisBrides here!

(hit up honey will the email address - they blocked my address)
I hope that helps! :thumbsup2

(hey sista) :wave2:
because this is just some BS. Your pics won't even be authentic because now you have to fake them on the wedding experience next time around...most definetly I would seek compensation.
I'm the type of woman that would GO FULL FORCE. U going to make spend money at your resort to have this wonderful experience and then u fail but because I signed a contract I dont get my money back? What happened to moral compensation?
Ugh...PLEASE SUE.

omg..yes...contact the Orlando Sentinel!!!!! And WESH 2!!! They do features about companies/businesses wronging customers. Go public with this...its a HUGE deal! DPS is going to lose a LOT of business in the future...they are screwing up royally.

A final photo update – apparently spending yesterday e-mailing our wedding coordinator, leaving a couple phone messages with key people (thank you to those who provided contact information), and especially this post on the DIS has worked.
I just got a call from Disney Photography VERY apologetic and offering a resolution to the situation that meets our satisfaction.
I am sorry that it took so much just for Disney to see how wrong they were :confused3 , and I know this will never fully replace what they have lost, but I am also relieved that this issue can be put to rest.
I just wanted to let you know about the final resolution agreed upon with Disney this afternoon. Also, if you made a post here on the DIS, I wanted to thank you for your public support since I *really* have a feeling this is what made them rethink how they were treating me. :grouphug: You guys are wonderful!

I am glad they finally resolved it for you, but honestly just the hassle you had to go through to get it, is enough to scare me into choosing an outside photog for my Escape. Its frustrating that in the park they leave you no choice.

And of course the fact that they even lost our pictures to being with...pictures that we will never get back...is enough to make me urge every bride to reconsider using Disney photography.

I'm so sorry you've had to go threw this. I hope they do make it up to you. I had planned on using an outside photographer for my escape wedding, but was undecided on doing the Magic Kingdom shoot. I've decided to not to do it.

I'm glad something is finally going to happen in favor of a resolvement. But wow, you had to go through a lot to get that! They should have offered it immediately, not made you spend more of your personal time contacting them and writing letters/making calls. I'm still highly dissapointed in DPS for you, but glad something is going to finally happen.

We are travelling ½ way around the world for our dream Disney wedding and this has made me rethink our choosing Disney photography.
We will now go with an outside photographer, not because they lost your pictures but because of what they put you through after that. For a company that prides itself on customer service and making dreams come true, I am totally astounded that they thought it acceptable to treat a customer like this, especially one that they had so clearly upset and let down.
Thank you so much for posting your experience, I hope you now don't need to think about them again and can look back and remember all the wonderful and magical things from your day :flower3:

You should still definitely do the Magic Kingdom shoot! This is the first time I have heard that DPS has lost pictures, and the in park shoots are just so amazing and a once in a lifetime experience. I think the chance of them losing your pictures would be very very small, especially since this happened to the OP. Of course, this is my assuming that the only reason you decided against it is because of the OP's lost pictures and not because of Disney's attitude, which I would understand if that was the reason! :goodvibes

It's more then just the lost photos. I don't like the idea, that I don't know who the photographer is, and the way Disney dealt with the lost photos, and while I know Disney's Photopass is separate from this, I've been having issues with them and that's adding to it. Sorry about hijacking.

I'm really happy this all worked out for you! (In the given circumstances)
I don't know if I would say that it really worked out - Disney was very hard to deal with and created a lot of stress. It would have been better had they #1 not lost of photos and then #2 not been so horrible when they did :sad2:
Okay good. I just posted a negative comment about how I would sue them and then saw your update!
You can still make a negative comment if you would like - Disney photography seems to make mistakes all the time and either it takes an unreasonable amount of complaining/pestering to get them to listen or people just get bullied into seeing things "their way" They really need to get their act together!
I am glad it got resolved for you but I am still sorry you had to go through all of this.
Thank you so much - it has been stressful.

I have a feeling DWP read the boards and I hope DFTW does too in order to help get some positive changes made in that department! I know I'm not the only one who has been treated horribly!
I'm glad they finally came to an arrangement that worked for you, but it's just disgraceful that you had to go thru all that.

I did have to agree to keep it confidential - I believe it had to do with the fact that they knew I was on this board...which is also horrible to know that they won't treat everyone the same.

Actually, in the process of this I had another bride reach out to me via private message and they lost her photos too. This was in 2007. She had a horrible time dealing with them as well. So 2 people that I know of in less than 2 years - you know it is happening more than that. Plus they are/were horrible to deal with. I wouldn't risk it! :mic:

I'm glad that you finally reached a resolution to this situation. I agree it seems that DPS has some issues, and while I'd probably feel more comfortable with an outside photographer unfortunately we can't afford to hire one. I just hope that we don't have any issues when it comes our turn. *knocks on wood*

I am a professional photographer and I can't say enough but how sorry I am that this has happened to you. What I can say to you is that you need to scream and yell and throw a hissy fit until someone either starts looking for your photos or they start telling you what really happened. As for them looking, offer to send some photos of yourselves so that they know who they are looking for.
If we lost our clients photos they would be looking to sue us for some sort of compensation. I would ask them for airfare, hotel, flowers, tux, hair and makeup as well as food etc. That is the very least they can provide you and if you feel like it I would ask for additional compensation such as a free cruise or an additional trip to take the bad taste out of your mouth.
The one thing that I would be concerned about is... if you pay for all the expenses of coming down for a reshoot what guarantee are they giving you that they won't lose the second set of photos? I would make sure that if you plan on laying out money for this shoot that they give you some sort of guarantee. It would be terrible to be disappointed twice.
I would also make sure that you demand their very best photographer that they have on staff.
I wish you well with your reshoot and if there is any way I can help even if it is only to answer some of your questions I would be happy to help.

I do know Disney reads these message boards so I hope they read this thread. That is horrible that happened ! We're using a family friend who is an excellent photographer. We refused to use Disney Photography because of this. I really wanted the photo shoot in front of the castle the day after our wedding, but I basically refused because I didn't want something like this to happen.
I'm so sorry ! I hope it somehow works out for you; I know they read this board so I hope they can do something. That is horrible, one more reason not to use Disney Photography for your wedding.
Whoops! Just read where you said it was resolved. I'm so glad. I still have heard horrible things about Disney Photography though, and I'm still staying away from them, lol. Good luck !

Other then our MK pictures, we didn't use Disney for photography. The pictures were outrageously expensive and very poor quality. Having read this, I would never consider using them again. Not for a vow renewal, not for anything. I find the fact that they first made such an error and then caused stress in rectifying it to be inexcusable. Add to that the non-disclosure clause they made the OP go along with means that whatever they have done to make this better is not standard practice when they mess up. This completely turns me off. The next time is happens they will try to wiggle out of it, or they wouldn't mind people knowing they were making things right.
If anyone from Disney is reading this, FOR SHAME. Underhanded dealing is not something I would expect from a company such as Disney who charges so much for their services.

I've heard many bad things about Disney photography as well. The fact that you have to use them for in-park events has pushed me to have a smaller wedding outside of the parks...just because I really want amazing pictures of our wedding! I would be absolutely devastated if something happened to my actual wedding pictures.
So sorry this happened to you! If Disney is indeed going to require that their photographers are used, then I really think they need to up the professionalism, or they will start losing business! :sad2:
