Hello everyone!

For those new to us, we are a group of people who are planning to participate in walking/running events throughout the year. For most of us, the ultimate goal is to train and compete in the annual WDW Half/Full marathons. We'll also be posting news and training for various other events throughout the year. We range from beginners to triathletes. Come join us, whether you're training for an event or walking/running for fitness!

New WISH Team members. If you read one thing over and over, believe this. Being part of this team is fantastic. Part of the ride you get for the event is what I call the roller coaster. There will be lots of ups and downs. The more you post here, the more you will find yourself enjoying the ride. It is an incredible journey. Don't be afraid, shy or whatever to come here and just post up anything. You don't have to know us right away, or all of us at all. You will get to know some of us. It makes the event you are enjoying have MORE meaning and we love to have you.

Posting a little early this weekend...I'm early to bed from my early morning then will be up again tomorrow for DH running the full.

I'm pretty happy with my half result...not a PR, but I only missed it by 5 min. That's much better than I was expecting so may mean good things for the Sarasota half next month.

It's been great meeting new WISHers and seeing all the veterans again!

Hello Wishers! I'm going to try for my 6 miles tomorrow. I woke up and it was snowing already, so running outside was not going to happen. I'll head to the gym tomorrow and use their indoor track. I may not be walking too well on Monday though!

Congrats Mel!!!!

Good luck Megan! Hope your 6 miles goes by quickly and effortlessly! :goodvibes

I'll post my well wishes to the Full and Goofy runners tomorrow morning. ;)

So here's my crazy idea...

I was talking to the people at Team in Training about a month ago. I was considering doing the Country Music Half. I didn't feel like I had enough of time to raise the money for it.

I then read about one of my fellow Super Goofs who ran the half today with Team in Training (yay Kim!). I gave the people at TNT a call again this week and I will probably be signing up for next year's full marathon with them. Is that a little bit crazy? I haven't even completed my first half yet.

This is all because I want an excuse to get back to the parks... (oh and support a good cause).

Hello all. I'm new here (interested in a half marathon- possibly the 2010 one at WDW :) ), and have no clue where to start. A little background on me so maybe someone can help me start some goals.

I was never a runner/p.e. person. I danced and took dance p.e. (danced since I was 2). I got in a car accident 5-6 yrs ago. I suffered back injuries and had a hard time returning to dance, plus now with two young kids I have no time to take dance lessons. So now I want something to keep me in shape and I think walking/running would be the best thing for me (as I can put my kiddos in a jogger stroller and take them along for the ride).

Hi JPFamilyMom!

Welcome to the Dis and the WISH boards! The posts may be a little slow for the next few days (most of the WISH folks are at WDW for marathon weekend).

I am no expert, by any means, and others may have better advice for you. But I know a lot of folks have used the Couch to 5K training plan to help get started and follow a routine.

We're a group of all abilities. Some are speedy, others are slow(er) like me.
Many use a walk/run plan and then may switch to a run/walk as they progress. The important thing is just to get out there and put the steps in regularly.

Don't know if you know or not, but WISH stands for We're Inspired to Stay Healthy. By participating in regular exercise (walking, running, yoga, cross training, swimming, etc.) you're making an investment in yourself. And that's the best investment you can make!

So welcome, feel free to ask questions. We're here to give support, advice, a shoulder to cry on or a swift kick to get you moving.

Terri

Although I'm not training for anything right now, DH and I are increasing our speed on our walks...over the next few weeks, we'll probably be adding another lap around the track. It feels so good to get out and walk together, he commented one time last week that it feels like we can solve the world's problems during five laps around the track;) . It is a great way to unwind from the day, discuss anything that we need to without ears around and just spend some time together.

Mel - WTG on the 1/2...I was thinking of everyone yesterday and got up this morning thinking about all who are walking/running now.

mla1977 - At least you are willing to hit the indoors since the outside is nasty, hope it goes well for you! WTG on setting those goals, doesn't sound crazy to me, I'm sure you can do it!!

JPFamilyMom - I love the support and help from the WISH board, I have no suggestions as I've just gotten back into walking over the past 4 months but wanted to say you've come to the right place.

TEK224 - I've seen several mention the Couch to 5K, think I need to look into it. I've gotten the urge to try a little running mixed in with the walking but have been nervous about it for some reason. I think the biggest thing is that I don't want to do something that will cause any type of injuries to prevent me from walking.

Have a great day everyone and thanks for all the inspiration that I get from these boards!!

This is all because I want an excuse to get back to the parks... (oh and support a good cause).

I say you can do it. A year ago at this time I signed up for the full before I ever did a half. Heck my longest distance before I signed up was the TOT 13K - 8.1 miles. And today I just finished my first full and when I signed up one year ago I wasn't even signed up for a half yet. You have a year to build your base and get your training in. With Team in Training I don't think you can go wrong. I didn't train with them but they seem to be really good in supporting their team (and not just their local Team) Today they also were helpful to those of us that aren't team in training as I heard quite a few TNT team members calling out my name with encouragement (not that they were the only ones though - there is plenty of encouragement throughout the race to pull you through even when you feel you can't go no more (well at least that is how it was for me today!!)

I also want to thank the WISH team - I wasn't wearing WISH clothing so wasn't easily recognizable. I want to say an extra special thanks to the WISHers at around 20 miles that had the pretzals and oranges - that was just what I needed. Then around the corner someone else (not WISH) had Skittles and then a little further someone had Life Savers they were really a "life saver" LOL All in all it was a good experience. Not sure if I am going to do the full distance again but I can at least say I have done a full marathon. So thanks WISH team - for pulling me through my training and for pulling me through the full.

Oh boy, I think I overdid it. I was cross-training this weekend and I thinbk I strained my left calf. It has been tight yesterday and today. I iced it and tonight I put some icyhot on it. Will try to take it easy. Hope it feels better before this Sunday's Race.

Oh and how cool is this: I'm doing the RnR 1/2 in Phoenix on Sunday and I got tickets to go see my Eagles play the Arizona Cardinals for the NFC Conference Championship in the afternoon. I am on :cloud9: . Now I just need to get my butt in gear so I can finish and get to the stadium on time.

I figure I'll have about an hour from when I finish until the game starts. I pity the people sitting next to me. Phew! ;)

Hi! Can I join in the WISH fun? My good buddy Stephanie (AKA nucpharm) easily talked me into doing the Circle of Life 5k back in September, so i signed up with my husband and we were supposed to be training together since then until this past weekend. Didn't happen...but I am not completely out of shape, just mostly out of shape. ;) Anyway since Steph was doing the half, she decided to come and join us for the 5k since I planned on walking anyway to get a feel for my first race/event ever. Long story short, I am so in. This past weekend got me hook, line and sinker. I am determined to enter and finish the half marathon 2010. I just turned 40 a few months back and I am determined to stay healthy! I also am signing up for a beginners yoga class this week which I feel I desperately need. In short, its time to start taking more time for me and my health. I saw y'all with your WISH shirts and wanted one so I figure I better come on here and introduce myself and give you my short story...and see if you will let me play too!

Tomorrow, I sign on for the half and begin my journey. I look forward to getting some tips and advice from you pros. Always appreciated!

And p.s. nucpharm, said it before and am saying it again, thanks for sharing this with me! You rock.

Thanks for the advice TEK224 (side note here Go Eagles, my hubby is originally from Philly so it was a happy house last night).

I've decided to use a combo of the c25K plan and the novice program for a 1/2 marathon plan (don't remember where I copied that from). I didn't plan to start until today, but took the boys for a brisk walk yesterday since my youngest hadn't took his nap and it was 2. So I ended up walking a mile and a half.:cool1: And last night I slept like a baby.

my next question is what else do I do besides walking, jogging, running? The one plan said to do sit ups and push ups on off days. But is that all? I feel like I should be doing more

Not sure how I got here...was looking for my "home" thread (Princess Half) Since I don't believe in accidents...I figure I was meant to be here!

My name is Christine. I am actually 45. I am a walker. I am signed up to do the Princess Half in March. I also have a Heart Mini Marathon (15K) later in March to raise $$/awareness for the Heart Assoc.

Then there is the Flying Pig here in Cincinnati. It is in early May. I am waiting to see how I do with the Princess Half before I commit to the half or full pig.

And, the multi day experiences. My dear friend is a state senator here in Ohio. For the past 2 years he has walked from Cincinnati to Columbus (our capital) to highlight some issue. It is about 100 miles and takes 4 days. Two years ago I walked 2 days, last year I walked 3 days, and this year I hope to have the time to walk all 4 days. That will likely be in April while our kids are on Spring Break.

Finally, there is the Breast Cancer 3 Day. I am thinking of signing up for one of these in the fall--possibly Arizona or San Francisco. www.the3day.org .

As far as my training goes, I read a few books and do mostly my own thing. I do 75 or 100 mins on my treadmill 4x/week and get outside on Sundays (at the local cemetery! :scared1: ) and walk for 2 hours. I am weak in the cross training department. I do the WiiFit from time to time for that. I'd love a Bowflex...I think. I have the SouthBeach Super Charged book with a list of exercises I should be doing...

Anyway, great to have found this group. I'd love to head to WDW in Jan. for 1/2 or full. However, by the time I decide if the 1/2 or full is better for me, the half will be full! :rotfl:

:welcome: JPFamilyMom, Christine and zalansky!!

here's a thread with some general info on the WISH team and running stuff.

Welcome to the Wish Team (http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=1831900)

Glad to have you with us! I just was checking to see if the registration links had opened yet...apparently not.

Tammy...welcome back! Great to see you around here again.

Terri...ouch! sounds like you're going to have a great weekend.

JPMom...cross-training can be whatever you want it to be, not necessarily just situps and pushups. A lot of people bike, do yoga or pilates, swim...whatever suits you. Just make sure that you take at least one day a week for rest...no activity...your muscles need a chance to recover and repair. Many of us around here trained for the half using John Bingham's book, Marathoning for Mortals. It includes programs for walking, running or a combo of the two.

Christine...you definitely belong. This has traditionally been the 'main' thread for the WISH team so we'd love to hear more about your race and training plans for the year. Looks like you're going to have a full schedule.

AFM: The rest of the fam is still crashed. Everyone's just exhausted from a busy, fabulous, fun weekend. We'll be packing up to go home as soon as they all get up.

We are up and I am moving slowly but once I keep moving I feel better. I told my DH any muscle that can hurt does!! The room smells of too much Biofreeze. Thankfully I have my Stick. LOL I had alot of fun - it was greuling at times (I guess it wouldn't be a marathon if it was easy!!) But I am SO happy I did it and have the medal to prove it. We are packing up the room and going to be on our way to Pop for the rest of our trip. Now to do the parks. LOL

See everyone later!!

Z - WELCOME!!!!! I remember you from my 40's thread! This is a great group of folks. They can help you once they all get back from Disney. ;) You most definitely belong here!

JPFamilyMom and Christine - :welcome: I started the WISH thread last year and this is the BEST group of folks. Ask them anything, and you'll get more than enough info. We're glad you came to be a part of us. I got hooked with the 5K last year. I did it with my daughter (9 at the time) in honor of my 40th birthday last year. I will be a WISHER til I die! :goodvibes I started with the Couch to 5K program. It was a great starting point for me, a non runner.

TammyNC - My DH and I walk one of our dogs at night, and we love having that time to talk as well. :thumbsup2 It serves two purposes, we get to "check in" with each other, plus we are getting healthier at the same time.

Tricia - Congrats on a job well done! :cheer2: :cheer2:

Hey WISHers!

I'm back from marathon weekend. My mom and I ran the half together. For those of you just joining WISH, my mom watched me run the Goofy last year and decided to sign up for the half. She had never run before and really didn't start until October because of PF flaring up. Our longest training run was 8 miles.

We finished the half in 3:23 including port-a-potty stops, numerous stops for my mom because her socks were driving her crazy, and pictures with characters. We had a blast, and she's thrilled with her medal (and so am I). My mom's 64 and can't believe she's a "runner." Now that she knows she can complete the distance, she wants to work on her time (and getting better socks).

You can totally do it. She never officially joined WISH but I'm always quoting the group and we wore our shirts with pride. :thumbsup2

I think I might be crazy but I am actually thinking of doing the full again next year. I know it won't fill up until later in the year so I don't have to commit myself right now. Here it is only a day after my first marathon and I said I most likely wouldn't do it again and now I am thinking about doing it again. We will see how the year goes. Now I know what to expect and I know what I have to do to get through it - it can only get better (I hope!) I actually think I am getting addicted to this running thing (well mostly the finishing race thing) Thanks to the WISH team! LOL

On a side note it made me very happy a little bit ago when I was at MGM at the Toy Story ride and a lady was asking me about the medal. She asked me if it was like a 5 mile run or something like that - her eyes about bugged out when I said "no its 26.2" It felt good to know I actually did it.

Well, I just did it...I signed up for the 2010 Goofy!

Tricia--I laughed when I read your comment about most likely never doing a full again....yesterday after the full, I told my fiance that if I even mentioned about doing the Goofy again to not let me. Well, by last night, I wanted to do it again, and now I am officially signed up! Don't ever say never!

I also wanted to say WELCOME to all the new WISH members! This team is great, and always a great source of support and motivation when training for races! Looking forward to getting to know you all.

I will catch up more with everyone tomorrow, time to go get ready for bed as I actually have to go back to work tomorrow!

Can I please join a team....I am most likely going to be a walk/runner for the 1/2 since my hudband is running the full again (trying to qualify for Boston) and we have 2 young children so training in NE can be difficult. I plan to start with 5K walk run training and work up....I saw so many WISH people at the marathon when he was running and realized that you were all a great inspiration. This is my first attempt.....just walk/ran my first 5K in October 3 months after delivery, but I want to do it for myself and HAVE FUN!!

Morning teammates! We're home and back to the daily grind. Scott actually worked yesterday after getting home on a very early morning flight. We had a great weekend. The half went great for both of us, 2:06 for me, 2:04 for Scott. Then we had the best time volunteering for the full. Captain Jim made our water stop great. Except for the runner asking Scott for cash and then being upset that he didn't have any, we had the best time! And then we cheered at BC, hope we saw everyone.

Now, I've decided that I'm going to do the Goofy next year, Scott too. After that, I'll be done with the full marathon distance.

z--So glad to see you here! I told you that you'd be hooked after the race. That's what happens. You'll see tons of us that after a terrible race will say "never doing that again" and we'll be signed up the next day for next year. Start slow and in a year you'll be amazed at what you can do.

mel--was great to see you this weekend. Congrats on registering for the half! Jeff did great, hope he's feeling better this morning!

WELCOME to all our new teammates! This is a great place to be!

Okay, need to get the kids ready for school, and get myself ready for the gym. Yep, heading in for a recovery xtraining workout today. Next up for me: Little Rock Half? Delaware relay?

We signed up for teams last year after the marathon. I don't believe we started our friendly competition until Feb. 1st. There has been discussion about whether to continue with the teams or not. I'm not sure there has been a final decision. Windwalker (dave) is the one that headed that up. I believe some teams are deciding to stay together. There should be more info after everyone gets back.

Regardless, you are a WISHer! Feel free to post on the weekly thread, that way we get to know you. Also ask any questions, struggles you might be having, and there will be people to help you. Also share your accomplishments! We love to cheer you on! :cheer2:

Hope that helps! :)

Teams...:confused3 Exactly what have I stumbled upon here?

DH says "Just don't drink any Kool*Aid!"

Last year after Marathon Weekend, Windwalker "Panda" (Dave) came up with an idea to keep us all on track. We formed teams to compete against each other. He tried to keep the teams even with those that run tons of miles and those that run when they can. We kept up with how many minutes we exercised (yoga, running, TaeBo, walking, XT, etc.) and we kept up with how many miles we did each week. We would report to our Captain with our totals. Some teams did it weekly, some monthly, it just depended on what worked for them. Then whoever had the most minutes and miles was supposed to get a prize at the Pop Meet this year. I didn't attend, so I can't attest to who won, or what they got. It was a great motivator for me!

Hope that clears it up! Watch for posts from windwalker Dave! ;)

Hey everyone, I'm Jenn! :) I'm most likely going to sign up for the 1/2 soon. I know... I've been mumbling about it for the past few days but I'm leaning closer and closer to registering. Still just have to figure out some of the other details... like if I have enough money for a Disney trip next Jan and if I can swing it. The 1/2marathon part I'm actually not stressing about TOO MUCH yet! :rotfl:

I definitely want to join a team when they pick back up! I've been slowly getting into running. Have run 4 or 5 5k's and eventually want to do 10ks...then the 1/2. Most I've ever run straight is 5miles... not too fun but I think I can get used to it!

disneygirlinnj If a 50 year old female with only a year of running under her belt, with off-and-on IT band injuries can run the half (that would be me, BTW), then so can you! My only race experience in 2008 was 2-5k, 1-10k, 1-15k (the race that started it all!)

Hi, Wish team!!

Again...here I am, trying to catch up on folks! I know so many were off at the WDW marathon weekend. Great pic from the meet at Pop on the RR thread! Now, if someone would just label it with names. :goodvibes

Terri...take care of that calf and have a good race next weekend!

JPFamily...other things to do in between the run sessions for your training are strength work/weights, and/or bicycling. Cross training helps make you strong and also gives you fitness while letting you recover from the run sessions.

Tricia..I know what you mean about people asking about the medal and being surprised of the distance. It feels pretty cool, and you can be proud of what you accomplished!

As for me...the usual...still rehabbing my shoulder...8 weeks post-op now. Will ride the exercise bike for a while after work, and continue my PT exercises. I'm getting a little stronger and hope to get clearance to run when I see the doc next week.
And...signed up for Goofy 2010! :cheer2:

Another book that many of us have found helpful is John Bingham's "Marathoning for Mortals." There are plans to walk, walk/run, run/walk, and run 1/2's and fulls. Speaking of the Binghams, those that did the half, did you see John and Jenny cheering? Of course, I was walking with their personal friends, WDWfan9/Pat and her DH Jim :snooty: at the time...:rotfl:

I am the team representative for the back of the packers. I will never be fast. I have arthritis in my heels, but I can hold on to a 16 minute pace. Unfortunately, I got to learn about IT band pain during the half. Still got my medal, though!!

Thanks for all the advice everyone. One other question as I've been looking at signatures and did a little more research. How many 1/2 marathons does WDW put on? Is the princess one an annual thing too? My husband is getting nervous as I've also found a 5K in our state to do in October of this year. :lmao:

Welcome! to all the new people. Just a warning...this is all quite addictive, both the running and the posting!

This weekend was great and it was fun to meet people and put some faces with names. I didn't get to go to any of the WISH meets but I met many people before, during, and after the races and a huge thanks to the WISH cheer teams out there on course!

I had a great time back out in MK on Sunday afternoon, but that night I woke up sick sick sick! I sure am glad that hit after the race and not before. I could barely roll over on Monday, much less run. I missed out on visiting AK other than running through in the race, but what a great excuse to come back! I was able to stumble through the airport yesterday with my family's help (sorry to all the people I infected!) and today I can actually sit up for more than 10 seconds at a time. What a great way to start a new semester eh!

Hi Hi Hi to all the WISHers getting back!

JPFamilyMom,
http://disneyworldsports.disney.go.com Go to the Amateur Sports tab, then click on Endurance. All of Disney events will be listed there. The Princess is an inaugural i/2 marathon race this year. It replaces the Minnie 15K that was held in May. The only other 1/2 marathon is at DisneyLAND around Labor Day. Good for you in finding events close by to do!! :)

TEK224/Terri, have loads of fun this weekend. I certainly hope you DO have warm temps!! We're in north FL and looking at 18 degrees tonight!!:scared1:

Hey everyone!

So, I get back from the half fully prepared to be productive, and now all I can think about is the Princess!! Do I try to run fast or do I try to make some sort of elaborate crown and maybe skirt?! Can I do both and run fast with a crown?! (And who have I become? I used to be freaked out wearing the WISH shirt and now I'm trying to design a princess outfit to wear with it...:rolleyes1 )

In an attempt to boost my training efforts, I printed out Hal Higdon's intermediate plan. I have no idea where to start since I can apparently run 13.1 miles, but not with any speed...;) I just decided to go backwards from the race date. I ran two days in a row, so I'm on schedule. I'm thinking about breaking out the green ink to help keep me accountable. (I loved running the half with my mom, but found I wasn't serious about training since I knew we were just in it to finish...)

Greetings to all new WISHers!!

Jen..Have you checked out the DISign that Stacey made on the Princess thread? I am thinking of maybe using that or something similar on a tech shirt (try to iron it on) and wear my running skirt. I'm thinking some type of tiara too, but we'll see how that turns out. I may just end up w/ mickey ears. From this year's pics, the visor is not the way to go... lol!

Anne...Too bad about the IT pain. I hope you are much better now. You really were moving and then we passed you right before the finish...Thanks for the encouraging words... For some reason I was sooo slow race day. ugh. But, it happens right...

I hope to get a mini race report or at least some pics up in the next week or so. I've a got a few pics of some WISHers at the very end of full pack around the Poly...

Later!

Well, I've been home since late Monday night, and been reading the boards religiously, but I've been avoiding posting because that just makes it real that the race and the trip are over. :sad2: I have been working towards this for a year, and had such a wonderful time, and I think that I just wish I could do it all over again next weekend!

It was SOOO wonderful to be there with all of you great people. The POP meet was fun, and it was great to see you on the half marathon course and at the dessert party too. I ran for a little while with Cam, Jen, Noah, Wendy, Jen in GA, Karen, and a bunch of other WISHers as well, and that made the race so much fun. The support was also amazing, and made a huge difference to me.

I finished the race in 3:01:09, which given that I have a baby on board (so made three potty stops, plus a character stop) I am pretty pleased with! It was wonderful to not worry about making a particular time. I had so much fun doing the race it's almost ridiculous. I felt pretty good afterwards, although my Achilles was bothering me a bit, and my back ached also. All better now though!

Even more gratifying was how well my DH did. He's been running off and on for years, but this was his first race ever. He did not train consistently for this race (his longest run was 5 miles) and only a week ago he was saying that he didn't think he should commit to finishing the race. :scared1: I told him that I KNEW he could do it, and that he would be fine - he should just go for it and listen to his body. He did great! We ran together for most of the first half of the race, and then I went on ahead. He finished only 9 minutes behind me with a time of 3:10:00, and was in pretty good shape. He was a little more sore than I was afterwards, but has recovered nicely. Best of all, he is now as hooked on races as I am, and we will be getting to do this again! I love sharing this with him!

I am definitely feeling post-race letdown. Combined with coming back up to winter (which I hate), and the fact that I am not sure whether I'm coming back for Marathon weekend again next year (baby and all), and not sure what I'll be doing exercise-wise for the next few months - anyway it all adds up to feeling pretty blue.

What do you think - would Disney do this again in a week or two so we could all come back?

Hi everyone. I’ve been on the DIS boards for a few years now but have only discovered the W.I.S.H boards in the last month. My oldest son, his best friend (both college freshman) and I decided to do the full marathon in 2010

I’ve been walking/running for the last 5 months along with weight lifting and the occasional aerobics class. Essentially because I moved to a very rural, very remote, very Medicare part of SE Kansas for a job opportunity and there is nothing else to do. I have lots and lots of time to train and this will get me through the year and help ensure I’m faster than all the 90 year old men in this town!!!! :scared:

The boys are of course are completely excited and I think somewhat delusional :lmao: while I on the other hand am completely nervous but doing my first marathon at Disney with my son is enough to motivate me through anything. The only thing missing is my youngest son who has made it absolutely clear he is not interested in participating other than cheering me on and giving me something to drink. I’m sure Diet Coke and Malibu wouldn’t be appropriate!!! :confused3

So I’ll need all the encouragement and advice I can get from you all. And I apologize in advance for any dumb questions I will ask!

HI EVERYONE!

I managed to survive the half. It really was not a good weekend for me phyisically but I am proud of myself.

I didn't get to meet many WISHer's. I came over to the group before the half but was feeling so bad I just sat down on the ground near you LOL! Afterwards I was just "drained" and didn't make it to the W tent. (The boyfriend did drag me to get a photo with Daisy Duck. I never really told him exactly how sick I was feeling)

But I am in for the half next year! And I promise to meet more folks!

Got on the TM at the hotel last night and did a little over 2 miles. I have to keep training. I have the Breast Cancer half in Feb and the Country Music in April!

To our new members "welcome" Seriously a year ago there was NO way I could have done this, but everyone on here is very supportive and I DID IT!

Have a good week!

:welcome: to all the Newbies!!!

Kira - sorry your having Disneyworld withdrawal!! Cheer up - you did so great out there!!!

AFM: Today will be the first day back to training!! I have the Miami Ing half marathon in 1 week and 3 days. Will go for 3-4 miles depending on how the shin and knee feel.

Thanks again to all those who VOLUNTEERED!! It was a great experience during the full!!

Jeff: I would need to fork out a loan to come to HI to race with you all and you and Marcia would get about 6 massages waiting for me to finish. hehe
WOuld love to do it someday, so I will keep it on the backburner for now.
Can you believe that have a sign just for you at the Poly. Even tho the biulding we were staying at doesn't make any sense, "Tokelau".

Take care and have a great Thursday everyone!

Mrs. Potts - Welcome to the WISH board. You'll hae a great time here with us!

CarolA - sorry your race wasn't how you planned. But YOU DID IT! Congrats. Now you can look forward to meeting all of us next year!

Don't know if I'll get back on the boards today. I have to finish packing. I'll post when I get back and let you know how the RnR Phoenix race was.

Hi WISHers!

I have been reading along and I am glad I started posting here. A friend of mine who has run a full marathon and a few halfs called me yesterday and wanted me to sign up for the 1/2 next year with her through Team in Training. I already signed up on my own with my husband and did not want to have to do any fundraising, so I am not interested in going that route at all. I do more than enough fundraising for my sons school and baseball team!
She suggested I won't get enough support on my own.

But thanks all for posting your stories of success and support, because they keep people like me hopeful.

Kira- I'm totally in withdrawal too. That's why I'm doing the Princess! ;) (It's nice to live within driving distance!) If it makes you feel better, you could still do the half next year if all goes well with the bambino. I felt fine and you're due a month earlier than I was.

CarolA- look at how strong you were to finish feeling bad!

zalansky- Don't you worry about your friend!! My mom and I did the half together and had a blast. She's 64 and has never been a runner and I have an almost 4 month old baby, so according to popular opinion, neither of us should have been out there.:rolleyes1 You just report in here whenever you feel down (or up!) and someone will talk you through it! The WISHers have helped me do things that seemed impossible...:cheer2:

Zelansky, some friend, is right!! You have more than enough time to train for a 1/2 marathon next year!!! Hang with us, ask all of your questions, and we'll get you there!! :thumbsup2
Lisa/MrsPotts, :welcome: See above...there are NO dumb questions!!! There are all kinds of experienced people, all shapes, sizes and speeds here..that's one of the things that makes WISH so great. If you are really shy about asking a question on the boards, PM someone!! Many of us here would not have our Donald/Mickey medal without the advice or encouragemnet we got from this board! What better place to do your first 1/2 than at Disney?? :dance3: As for your youngest..scream teamers are an IMPORTANT part of race day!! I've been participating in events for 3 years now, and my friends can't believe I'm still at it!! :crazy2:
Kira, what a great race you did!! :woohoo: Congrats to DH, too!! The best thing for race withdrawal is to do a local 5/10K. Baby is ready for that!! :rotfl:
postesf/Stacie, thank you! You both were looking good! I'll never be about time..just acquiring new bling!!
CarolA, We'll see you at the CMM in April!!

z--here are my thoughts
As for the training, YES, you can do this. I'm glad your "friend" can complete her events, and being a "friend" she should challenge/support your efforts as well. I will be there next year to cheer you on, walk/jog with you, whatever it takes to get you the medal you want.

This next year will be a journey of up and downs. Believe me, if a runner/walker tells you there are no down days to training they are LYING!!! Good training days propel you toward the next, bad training days remind you that this is hard and if it were easy everyone would do it. Listen to your body and remember to incorporate some rest days. The only person you are competing with is you. Don't compare yourself to others. Someone will always be faster than you are, and by god someone will always be slower. There will be tears of joy and tears of pain. It takes great courage to start this journey. Take it one step at a time, literally!

The WISH team is a fabulous group of people. If not for them, I'm not sure I would've line up at the start for my first marathon. I had a terrible last training run due to illness and was very defeated. I enjoy every moment I am with them. You can find someone on this team who has experienced what you're going through. There are no stupid questions. Ask away! Share with us your joys and your disappointments. We're here to celebrate with you in your successes and support you through the tough times.

Love ya!

I've lurked on the DISboards for some time, and finally decided to sign up. I did not run the Disney marathon this year, but I did the Dopey last year, and hope to run it again soon*. In the meantime, I have the Race for the Taste later on this year, plus a couple marathons, 10ks, 5ks and maybe an ultra.

* I'd like to run it every year, but I am trying to hit all 50 states plus DC in the next 14 years, and a yearly Goofy trip isn't likely to happen at the same time.

It was so great to see everyone at the Pop meet on Friday night and on the course on Saturday and Sunday. I finished the 1/2 and have been showing my Donald medal to anyone and everyone who will look at it. :rotfl: I have already signed up for the 2010 1/2. I am also thinking about the Disneyland Half in September so that I can get the special Coast to Coast medal.

Quick question - are the teams & the miles/minutes thing still going on? I wouldn't mind a team, just for the friendly competition.

(And, BTW - my miles so far for the month is 73.25. I still have to do my daily run though, so that's only accurate for another couple of hours.)

:welcome: to all the new folks!

Just popping in to say hey to everyone, and congrats to all who were at WDW this past weekend!

We had DS's first birthday party on Sunday, which was a lot of fun (and maybe just a little over the top, in a good way). :) I've been so consumed with party planning (and holiday planning before that) that I've barely gotten any running time in.

Now that all the craziness is done with, I'm going to get back to it! DH and I have a 5K coming up in early March, so hopefully that will help keep us motivated as we try to get back into a regular running routine.

Hope everyone's doing well!

Hi everyone!

I hope I'm in the right spot :woohoo: I've decided this week that for my fitness goal, I want to walk the 1/2 marathon in January of 2010. I guess I have a few questions:
1) Do / can people walk the race? What is the timed minute-per-mile that you need to stay under?
2) Is it a walker-friendly race? My uncle has ran the full marathon before and he and his wife both said it's a nice race with nice people.

I look forward to talking more with all of you! I'm getting excited to do this and I really think having that goal on the horizon will make the journey worth it!

Thanks again!:cheer2:

Howdy WISHers.

DWGal...it is a walker-friendly race, but you do have to make the minimum pace, which I believe is a 16 minute per mile pace, so it would be a moderately brisk walk. There are lots of walkers, walk/runners, and runners on here, and I'm sure they will chime in!

Hi, TXAng! What 5K are you doing? I forget if we live in the same part of TX.

It can be walked. You would need to do 16 minutes/mile, which is a moderately brisk walk. I believe that the current cutoff time is 3 1/2 hours, but that time does not start until the last person crosses the starting line, which can give you a few extra minutes of cushion. You might want to jog for a minute or so here and there to make sure you are ahead of the sag wagon, but yeah, plenty of people walk it every year.

Popping in to the weekly thread now that I'm back home and recovering from a cold. Been sleeping a lot since I got back--I think my body is sulking because it's not at Disney....Or maybe my body thinks it's hibernating season....

Mel: Congrats on your successful 1/2, PR or not! You looked great scream teaming at the full and will rock Sarasota. Hope Jeff is feeling better!

Megan: I see you're gearing up for the Princess. I can feel the excitement! How's training going? And you're not crazy to commit to a marathon--you've got the bug. (Either that, or we're all crazy.)

Allie: You. Me. Marathon weekend 2010. You hear? I felt your enthusiasm, and owe you an Epcot drink or two.

JPFamily Mom: Welcome! You so belong with us! The enthusiasm here is contagious and we're glad you're joining the fun. I'm a big fan of C25K!

Terri: What a cool event you have planned, with your Phoenix RnR race/Eagles combo. (Too bad it wasn't the Steelers. ;) ) Good luck this weekend--and yay for Goofy 2010!

Tammy: I know what your DH means by "solving the world's problems" on the track. It's a very cool way of expressing that meditative state.

Tricia: Congratulations on your full. Weren't those scream teamers fabulous? I gained weight on the course and collected more than my fair share of hugs. The support WISH offers--along with TNT, DR, Disney Deads, etc., is so exciting to see, let alone be a part of! Oh, you're signing up for Mickey next year--I can hear it in your voice.

zalansky: Stephanie's a good recruiter, she is! Loved the "not completely out of shape, just mostly out of shape." Reminds me of the "mostly dead" line from Princess Bride. You're gonna love the support structure here. I couldn't have finished--heck, wouldn't have made it to the starting line with my injury--this year without knowing WISHers had my back.

Christine: Yay for the Princess 1/2! Lots of WISHers should be at the Pig, too! (What, Pgh isn't good enough for yinz?)

Sherryjoe: Welcome!

JeninGA: You and your mom rock! (And I second better socks, just on principle.) It sounds to me you're ready for Higdon's intermediate plan--as long as you use green ink--for the Princess. I feel a PR in your future!

Laurie: Congrats on signing up for Goofy 2010. With all the WISHers doing it, there might not be room for anyone else. :lmao:

Jenn: Congrats on singing up for the full! Forget what Christine's DH says, you've already drunk the lime-green Kool-Aid WISH offers. Don't worry. we'll support you!

Maura: So modest about your accomplishments. You've rocked your races, and always look like you can run another the next day!

Betsy: Glad to hear your shoulder rehab is coming along. Crossing my fingers for the dr.'s okay to run. After all, you have Goofy to train for!

Anne: :worship: :worship: :worship: :worship: You represent for all cool things WISH. The back of the pack partiers, the scream teamers extraordinnaire, the ethos of WISH! PD for your ITB....

Lily: I was honored to eat your dust on the full.

Claire: I missed meeting you this last weekend. Guess that means I'll be going to another race, huh? Oh, darn. I have no doubt you rocked it!

Stacie: I so enjoyed getting to meet you and Matt. Next time we hang out for margaritas instead of pins, you hear? :rotfl2:

Kira: I, too, have post-marathon weekend letdown. Guess there's only one solution until the next race we can attend. DIS, WISH, and more DIS WISHing! Congratulations to both you AND your DH!

Lisa/Mrs. Potts: Congrats on signing up for the marathon and making it a family affair! That sounds like so much fun!

CarolA: Congrats on your 1/2, although I'm sorry to hear it was difficult. Wow--already in training for your next races (that does include the Donald 2010 for sure, right?)

Tracy: Loved the nametags and all the work you did on them. So happy to see you volunteering on the full, along with everyone at your stop. Good organization!

Stephanie: Wise words about training and the journey that begins way before race day (and doesn't end there). No wonder you're such a great WISH representative. I'll drink your Kool-Aid any day!

SAHDad: The Dopey, huh? :worship: Glad you came out of lurkdom, because we've got quite a WISH traveling contingency, should you decide you want to, you know, try the 50 states thing. ;) Sounds like you have the background for it!!! :thumbsup2

Heather: I'd almost forgotten about the Coast to Coast medal....Okay, I hadn't, but DOOD would like me to. I don't think we met at the POP meet??

Ang: Did you read Heather's post. Coast to Coast medal. Maybe that's what I need to get inspired for DL (hint, hint). Good luck on your upcoming 5K. And post pics of your DS's b-day party. :goodvibes

DWGal: Welcome! Yes, it's walker friendly, as Betsy said. It's a 16mm pace, clocked from the last person to cross the starting line. I walked the full this year--with Jackie (MouseDogMom) as my pacer, mentor, coach, cheerleader--and had a great time! This is a great place to meet and train with other walkers!

Bill: Dang! I didn't see you at POP or anywhere else. How are you doing?

Aloha Jeff: So, yes, you're right. I'm incapable of not responding to everyone. Even you, and you haven't posted! :lmao:

So, the team challenges are definitely on for next year? I hadn't heard for certain?? Hear that, O'hana (and Mel, the spreadsheet queen)? More hours for us!! :woohoo:

As for me: You heard it earlier, folks. Walked the full with Jackie and she kept my sorry butt in gear. I couldn't have finished without her, let alone had the marvelous time I did. I mean, I got to pet a donkey on a marathon course. In what other place than Disney? I ate Twizzlers and orange slices, I posed with pirates, and I got one of my infamous "let's not show my face" race pictures (new avatar pending). I met, and reintroduced myself, to WISHers all along the course. I learned I can walk a marathon and not get swept. And I didn't reinjure myself in the process. So the injury, the aborted training, the anxiety, all of it was well worth the 7.00 hours I spent on the course.

Oh, yes, and I'm in for Goofy--and hopefully Dopey--2010!

Hi, all. I just posted my trip report on the other thread and have to get some work done (!), but I wanted to stop by this thread and say hi.

Big hugs to all my WISH friends who made the weekend such an amazing memory!

And, you all got DH in the WISH spirit! He has finally joined (and spent a long time reading a lot of these threads). Look for him as Started_With_A_Mouse.

Debra: Your great, loved seeing you walking along during the Full and smiling!! Glad you were able to get out there and get it done without reinjury.

Jeff: :wave2: You didn't loose any toenails?? Poor Marcia lost one. Would love to see you guys again in DL this year, but doing the inaugural Princess 1/2. I am really planning on doing the DL 1/2 in 2010. Maybe I'll take your offer from last year and stay with you all. Would be fun!! When I win the lottery, I'll fly out to HI and hang with you all out there for some races.

AFM: Did a 3 miler tonight - was very chilly and breezy and it was bothering my leftover cough. Contemplating doing the Full in 2010 - just don't know about being out training in the S. FL heat for 6-7 hours. (I don't do treadmills)

Have a good day everyone and go WISHers!

Oh my goodness you are a friendly bunch - although a bit scary to a newbie. Toenails falling off?? Bleeding nipples??? Oh my.

I posted a thread a few posts down about being a possible newbie for the 2010 half, and a lovely poster suggested that I post up here and ask some of my questions. I've been recommended a few books, but right now the big question I have is about training in general - do most of you use a treadmill or an incline treadmill to go along with your training? I do not own one right now, but Sears has some wonderful deals going on through Saturday, with deferred payment until February 2010. I can buy a treadmill, train, and run the half all before I have to pay for the machine! :)

A huge :worship: to those of you that participated this past weekend, whether you finished or not, beat your PR or not, from what I've read you had an amazing experience, and I believe the saying is it's better to start the race than not start at all?

In any event, hoping to get to know all of you!

dsnyfan21
01-15-2009, 07:59 PM
Hi Twingle!! (what's that stand for?:confused3 )

Treadmills.....hmmmmm.... I may not be the best person to talk to about them. I live in South Florida - near Fort Lauderdale and really have no excuse to get out and be in nature. I have used a treadmill for training at times that I was not about to go outside. Once a 9 miler at a hotel, once for a 10 miler when it was pouring rain most of the day. My name for the treadmill is the DREADmill. I just can't do more that 4 miles or an hour of the thing before I want to tie myself up from it and commit suicide. BUT that is just my opinion! SOme people like to use it and listen to books on tape, have a tv on, watch taped shows they have missed, use their Ipods. Some have not choice but to use it when the weather is not cooperating. (Oh, also I HATE doing loops in my training, like around a track, or around the block and such. I am and out and back kinda gal.)

Good Luck with your search. You won't know until you try it.

[right, Noah? You don't mind, do you? Just the princesses for the weekend? huh? Can I go? Huh? Can I?]

Don't know if you're near Philly, but we got a really good price on Southwest. They usually have their lowest fares posted on Tuesday (not day of flight but day of purchase).

Thanks, Megan! I'll keep checking Southwest then. I need to run the half in the morning and then get back home for work on Monday (!), so I'll need to fly out Sunday evening. I've flown Southwest out of philly before and it wasn't bad.

I usually try to grab a flight on spirit because it's less than an hour from my house ( a lot less if DH is driving)....

WELCOME to all the newbies. YOU WILL LOVE RUNNING AT DISNEY!!!!! And this group will get you there.

This quick as I am a bit busy.... but I wanted to let everyone know that I am freezing my butt off here!! School was closed today and will be tomorrow due to -40 wind chills. I HATE THIS WEATHER. Now you all know why I am the queen of the indoor track!!!

It is great to see everyone is getting back from the race. While I left depressed for some reasons, I am also using that to get motivated to get back on track. I had the most horrendous year and it really affected everything in my life. 2009 will be different. I need to lose the rest of my weight (even the extra pounds I gained in 2008) and will increase my speed back to at least where I was. In one year I will be even faster!!!!

OK... gotta fly!

OK Deb, I'm here. I have to go back and read 5 pages of posts.

Took today, a regular training day off. I think it's deserved after 42.4 miles, but I'm sure some of you are thinking, "What a slacker." :rotfl2:

Back with more shortly.

Whooooo hooooooo, I got a free day off on Friday. A high wind storm is expected, and all public schools, state and city & country workers were told to stay home.

However, I am sad that I could have stayed at WDW through Sunday if I had known this was going to happen. I completely forgot Monday was Martin Luther King Day. A four day weekend! :rotfl2:

Good lord, did we pick up a whole bunch of new team members from the race weekend? It must have been the shirts, hats, visors, or and tattoos. I had quite a few comments all week from wearing my
Eye2Eye, Race Ready, and regular team shirts around the expo and parks.

It's an island near Samoa, not a Hawaiian word.

Wow, I guess after reading Jen's post I can't complain. But, I will. :lmao:

It was 11 degrees when I dropped the kids off at school this morning. Do you know how cold that is for Atlanta?!? Regardless, I won't be running today. :crazy2:

Jeff: Now why would people ever notice your WISH gear? :confused3 it's not like it's highly visible green (...no, yellow....no, green!) that catches peoples eye like an accident :rolleyes2 And how dare! you take a day off after a marathon, half, and 5K????? You better have enjoyed it!

Twingle: Good luck on finding the right treadmill for you...I have no words of advice for you--I hate the things! Oh wait words of advice: run away run away! (feel free to ignore me, some people swear by them)

It's nice to see everybody coming back. I'd say I would post a race report but I don't think it will ever happen. Instead I just get my fond memories of meeting lots of WISHers, running my bum off, getting attacked by Anne (in a good way!), running with WISHers Scott, Carrie, and Roxanne through MK, watching Roxanne get attacked by one of Donald's stooge ducks, and finishing Goofy!!! (Got my bling to prove it!)

AFM: I have a 3 miler for today, but it will verrrrrry slow as I am still recovering from my virus and I am still eating pretty much apple juice, cheerios, and bread. Which brings up another point, Im missing out on those great post-marathon meals that you get the week after a marathon grrrrrrrr. Oh well!

I think I'm going to sign up for the Crescent City Classic 10K soon. It runs the day before Easter in New Orleans and is usually fun. But it pales to the WISH power and magic of a Disney marathon. Still it's a good goal.

Happy running!

Yes Shan, I can sympathize with you. I grew up in Atlanta, and that is COLD for us Southerners! It was 7 this morning when I walked DD out to the bus stop. The neighborhood ladies and I only walked one loop around the neighborhood instead of our 3 due to the cold, but at least we did something. My dog was sooooo ready to come back inside.

Oooh another quick question that I wanted yall's ideas for:

Where should we go on our honeymoon?

I know WDW is always a great place, but I just got back and my fiance has been before. We've nixed big cities, but that's really about it. Any good ideas out there? And yes, Jeff, we would love to honeymoon in Hawaii, but is it actually possible to fly there without having to sell our firstborn?

Oh yeah, we're getting married May 23, this year.

Hey kids!

I've actually stuck to my running schedule all week in preparation for the Princess-- today's a rest day. I'm so happy about that!!;) I'm not the Princess type either but I'm debating adding some sort of felt crown to my hat, maybe with some streamers. Crazy!

Jen- you may not have been as fast as you wanted, but you blew past us in Tomorrowland and I never saw you again! :thumbsup2 Oh, and I would keel over in your weather. I had to scrape my windshield a couple of days ago and am still traumatized.

Got to do some real work!

Hi everyone! Can I join? My background is, I've always worked out some and last year thought about training for a marathon, but then 2 hurricanes and getting me sick made me start slacking. So, now starting January 1st I started back up with the C25k. I am friends wtih a man who runs marathons, he's done the half and the full at WDW. He convinced me to pick a race so I have a goal. So, I picked the TOT 13k. My dd will be 16 that week and she asked if she could bring her bff and we will just make it a birthday trip/run. This morning when I got out of the bed I was stretching and pulled something in my back. I am sad. I brought a heating pad to worka nd have motrin. I wasn't planning on running again until Sunday anyway because I have a date tonight with mr. marathon and tomorrow him and I are going to houston to the running store to get me some new shoes.

Shan, Clean out your mailbox! I tried to respond to your PM and you are FULL LOL!

So, in the general interest... I ran the half in the Skirt Goddess Commitment Skirt. Somewhere close to mile 11 it hit me... I had not adjusted those shorts ONCE. I have now ordered two more skirts before they change them on me!

Did two miles on the "dreadmill" last night. Need to get out and run a little longer this weekend, but its COLD in Atlanta. (OK, it's cold FOR Atlanta LOL!)

Have a good weekend!

Welcome to all the newbies here since the marathon weekend.

Claire, sign up for Yapta.com, and plug in the dates of travel for you honeymoon. It will give you a price, and then tell you when it goes up, or when it goes down.

Since you're down that end of the continent, try someplace different. Bahamas, Puerto Rico, Mexico. More bang for your buck.

Hello again, everyone!

Wanted to ask if anyone does fundraising while running the marathon? I know that there are a few on here that do the Team in Training, but wasn't sure if did fundraising for other charities/organizations.

Thanks for any information, and also for all the tips. I really appreciate the feed back on the "dread"mill, so thanks for that!

So, the building we were at at the Polynesian was a place. The building itself does not seem isolated, but hey - whatever.
Here is the definition.

"Tokelau's name is Polynesian for north wind, and it's one of the most isolated places on earth."

Hoping to stay there again next year!! I will start saving up now - like maybe #120 a month?? :lmao:

I recognize names - and I need to recomit - I'm an embarrassment to myself.. DH has signed up for the Goofy in 2010 - so I will commit...

I realize this is an extreme off the wall post - but I'm clutching at straws and need the cheers of the WISH team that got me to the finish line in '08 - please help carry us thru -

Our 2nd born is in the hospital, and the doctor just called - he's taken a turn for the worse - Please surround and lift him up in prayer....

and at the same time in 6 days our first born is getting married - I certainly dont know how I'm going to cope with the shower tomorrow, the rehearsal dinner, etc etc...

and God Bless our 12 year old (staying with our eldest right now - we are 3 hours from home our 2nd born is at college and was taken to the ER Thurs) "we'll get thru this with faith and prayers mom"

so I ask you to join in prayers! help us find the "goal" finnish line!!

and soon, Dear God, soon!

Sandy: Lots of pixiedust: :flower3: goes out to you and your family at this trying time.

An Update for those of you who knew about my Uncle Jimmy that lives out in California. He was sent home back at the beginning of December to have home care with hospice. There was nothing more they could do and he chose to go home. After Christmas he asked that the feeding tube be removed. This morning at 1:30am, California time he passed and went to meet his god and savior. I am sad for my Aunt and my Cousin because they will miss him dearly. I am also relieved for them becasue now everyone can rest. They had both taken leaves of absences to help care for my Uncle which was almost a 24 hour a day thing the last two weeks. He was having moments of clarity and moments of not being totally there and wanting to get in his car and drive to an "appointment."

Thanks to those who sent prayers and thoughts to them and to me. He is now in no pain.

We supposedly had a windstorm that was to hit the islands on Friday. So bad that they canceled school, and gave us government workers the day off.

Despite what was predicted, 60-70 mph gusts, it never materialized. Some winds and rain, but not the destruction they anticipated.

It did get down either in the high 40's, or low 50's overnight. Rare for Honolulu.

Today, at 10 am, this is the view out our lanai. Just thought you'd all like to see it.

JEFF! YOU'R KILLING US!

I went and did 45 minutes outside today. For ATL it's COLD and it's gray and dreary out there! My Garmin was dead so no real idea how far I ran, but I did something.

(I did keep wondering why we are discussing the Breast Cancer race when we have to train in the COLD!)

Carol, I'm impressed. I went out Thursday and haven't been back out since. I couldn't stand to go out yesterday while the kids were at school - crap, it was 11 degrees! Since when is Atlanta this cold?!? This sucks! Today I'm alone with the kids so I was planning on heading out tomorrow for a 3 miler, but it is supposed to sleet??? I'm praying it doesn't cause we're having my daughter's birthday party at a gymnastics place. I sent the invites into school so I don't have any phone numbers! :scratchin DH was gonna run 15 miles tomorrow, too. (He's training for his first full!), but I'm wondering how he'll get that in between the party and this weather...

Honolulu!! Thanks for that post!! Its 20 degrees warmer today than Friday! woohoo - its 15 deg!!

Again, I'm taking in all the prayers and positive thoughts! Thank you all so much...

Our son seemed better today, they gave him a ct scan, but this is not a good place for him - so prayers that we can get him transfered to a better hospital for his needs!! (we have to wait till Mon or Tues ) They are insisting on a ambulance transfer, and I'm not sure if our insurance will even consider it - Keep those prayers coming.

I'm so grateful dh signed up for the Goofy 2010 - I will train so much better - I'm ready to get to Disney, and I'm willing to train for the Half!!

Sandy - Prayers and hugs for you and your family. That's a lot to deal with at any time, let alone all at one time! Your WISH family is here always.

Tracy - Sympathies to your family. I understand the mixed emotions so well.

Jeff - My thermometer at home said 7 this morning when I took the puppies out the first time. It's a balmy 29 now. One of my Galloway leaders ran the Maui Marathon last weekend and just sent us his race report. Apparently Hawaii saves the bad weather for when you leave. He has pictures of running through puddles almost to his knees!

:welcome: to all the new members! This is a very special group who will absolutely get you to the start line and through the race.

As for me, I have no running to report. We got home late Tuesday night and have been trying to get back in the swing of things with work and school and puppies. I'm still trying to figure out how to use the TM with the pups in the house, and it's just too darn cold to go outside now! Even my off-season Galloway group canceled the run this morning.
