Hmmmm..... Krystal burgers, huh? I have to say - not my favorite. We have White Castle here in St.Louis but I remember Krystal from our years in Nashville and they are pretty near identical. I must have missed the "17 Krystals" episode - did you really eat 17 of them at one time? :scared1: I'm really glad you lived to tell the tale - not many could have survived 17 belly bombers!:eek::eek:

As some of you may recall from the banter I had with SunnieRN, or house is approx 2 miles from the Fort Hood Main Gate. At this time, we do not know if anyone we knew was involved in the shootings. There are currently several dozen soldiers and their families who attend our church and I am working with our pastor to attempt to account for each of them.

As you may also recall, I work in the Public Safety division of a cellular provider and our department coordinates the Emergency Response Team deployments. I never thought I'd be working on a deployment to my own backyard.

I just talked to Tracy and she is still at school. Because of the lockdown, many parents still have not been able to get to her school. (She teaches off post but approx 2/3 of her class are military children.)
I will likely be unable to return to check the boards until the weekend or sometime next week. Until I am able to get back, I covet your prayers for the victims, their families and the community.

Hi there Mr. GreatBiscuit! I followed your signature link from Jordan's PTR to your AMAZING TR.. Holy cow!! I got through several episodes from your earlier trips, but I need to go do homework with DS.

You have an amazing writing style... I have laughed out loud so many times in the past hour!

I'll definitely be back to try and read more.

PS.. You touched my heart with your kind gift to Jordan! Can't wait to read more about you and your family!

Our serviemen sacrifice so much for us, it's inconcievable how someone could attack them "at home".

I appreciate the OP's request to let us know the circumstances, but please don't let the thread turn into a total discussion of the shootings and let the thread be on hold till he returns.(so far so good). There are many threads on the Community Board in which you may to participate. Keep him and everyone else in your prayers during this difficult time.

I had a respone done and lost it...stupid phone browser. We are all home and trying to get the girls settled. I do appreciate all your prayers and well wishes. We still don't know the identies of all involved. In the interest of preventing my TR from relocating itself on the Community Board I removed the apparently illegal off topic title and links. On the TR front, I hope to update on Monday. I found some of the Fantasmic photos (Not the high speed roll I'm afraid) so maybe I can get those posted tomorrow. Good night all. God Bless.

Meantime, be what God has called you to be in this time.

Found a roll of film? cool! Do wish it was the coveted high speed roll, though!

I have a confession to make: I have a problem. A mental problem that is. When my mind is spinning, I can’t sleep. It is getting late, and all is quiet and dark and I should be snoring by now. Yet, I feel like I could head out to a midnight - three EMH and party till they kicked me outta the joint. And so I have found my way here. Far sooner than I anticipated, unsure what I’m going to ramble about given the warning from the moderator. (I know O’Mari, it stinks to be the mod. I’m not bitter. I know you were doing your job. For which you volunteer. And no doubt take a lot of grief over. ) So I guess something TR related would be in order, so as to get the bus outta the median so to speak. (Yeah I know outta isn’t a “real” word. But it is in Texas dangit.)

Previously mentioned on these pages was the fact that I had a roll of high speed film that up and vanished on me. I still don’t know what happened to it, but I did discover five shots of Fantasmic at the beginning of a roll of film from day 5. (WOOT!) They aren’t as grand as I would hope, but given that I shot it at between 150 and 300mm, at 1/60, f5.6, iso 400 , they a’int bad.

Also discovered were a couple of pics from my last post that didn’t make it into the report the first time around. So I suppose this will be a post about the discovery of lost photos. Hopefully it will be more entertaining than Geraldo Rivera opening the lost safe of Al Capone.

First up, Fantasmic.

Don't blame you for having trouble sleeping with the kind of day you had. If it helps some, you put some happiness back into the world by posting those "lost" shots. Brought me right back to a warm and fuzzy memory of watching fantasmic with my kids and having them point out each and every character on the boat-and as we all know there is a lot of them.

"Look mommy it's Ariel"

"Look mommy it's Eric"

"Look mommy it's Jasmine"

"Look mommy it's Aladdain"

You get the picture. So thanks for spreading some joy on an otherwise not-so-great day.

Hey! Long time no see! How’s life treating you! Did I remember correctly that you guys are down in Central Texas now?

Thanks!

Yes and no. I was SME when I left my last department and 2 weeks later they canned the entire team and the helpdesk that was 1 tier up.

Awesome! Air Conditioning is your friend, mister fans are a must, drink deeply and drink often, and use lots of sunscreen. There you go. The GB field manual to summer Disney Survival.

I am currently home with some kind of ear infection on steriods. I thought only kids got ear infections? Looks like I might be headed to the hospital if the doctors can't figure out this latest development.

Your memory is correct. We live in Waco now.

Lots of water will be the plan for sure! Sunscreen is a given regardless if it's winter or summer in Florida! :lmao:

My prayers are with you and the families in your church. When DH showed me the news story yesterday, I imediately thought of your family. God Bless and I'll be praying.

Rambling is good for the soul, no matter what the topic and a fine place to find yourself when the brain won't sit still. :grouphug:

Love the pics, especially the Fantasmic shots as they are quite different from the ones I usually see. I really need to figure out a nighttime/low light photo solution for my trip without breaking the bank or having too much equipment to lug around. My point and shoot does an amazing job outside, on a nice day, but....

I am currently home with some kind of ear infection on steriods. I thought only kids got ear infections? Looks like I might be headed to the hospital if the doctors can't figure out this latest development.

Your memory is correct. We live in Waco now.Tracy at the doctor’s office with an ear infection as we speak. She did the whole Z pack last week and it didn’t work. The worst pain I ever remember having (and given my many injuries that’s saying something) was right after we got married when I got an ear infection. My ear canal was so swollen, they couldn’t even see my ear drum. I couldn’t hear ANYTHING out of that ear for about 3 weeks.

Rambling is good for the soul, no matter what the topic and a fine place to find yourself when the brain won't sit still. :grouphug: I totally agree. My method of dealing with stress probably isn’t the healthiest approach. I tend to bury stuff and find ways to stay busy.

I agree with Cynthia, those shots were 'out of the ordinary'. Great Job!

I also agree that getting on here to "ramble" is just the ticket for getting thoughts out and unravelled. I sometimes even keep a piece of paper by the bed to make sure I don't forget what I"ve come up with during my night time musings. (Can I add, that it's not always about Disney ;))

Actually it's nerdier that that. :teacher:

Part my job duties include building and maintaining databases. So....it's in Access. Which is kind of like using a freight train to ship a loaf of bread, but it works. Mrs. The King gave me an awesome idea with her final "thank you to my readers" post so I needed to be able to 1. Keep list of all my readers & 2. Know how any times they had posted. It also helps me know when I need to give a new poster an official :welcome:

So there you go. A deeper glimpse into the odd world of yours truly.

Previously on Biscuit’s Grand Adventure, pretzels were absent, ice cream was served and I had a most unsettling encounter with a mad woman in the laundry room. (Bonus geek points if you can name the source from which that last phrase was borrowed.)

When last we left our clan, a family reunion was in full swing. Tracy’s Uncle and Cousin #1 were heading back to their motel. Her Aunt and Cousin # 2 were staying in the parks. After a few more moments of browsing in the Rock N Rollercoaster gift shop, a ride which we had NOT been on, we headed out towards our next destination.

We took in the sights, sounds and dare I say smells of Sunset Blvd while catching up. As we were heading back towards the Animation Courtyard, I saw a parade going down Hollywood Boulevard. We didn’t have time to stop and watch (plus the crowd was about 5-6 people deep, BUT I did have my handy telezoom hanging around my neck and took a few shots while we were walking along.

Yep. That’s right my friends. It was time to get our Playhouse Disney on. We wound up in the back left corner of the place and only had about a 5 min wait for the show. I entertained myself by checking out all the cool techno gear.

(Hard to see in that photo, but on the lower tier of the catwalk in the back corner, you can see the AV booth.)

When the show began, I again entertained myself by swapping between the three cameras I had with me to compare image quality.

As to the show itself, well, they got bubble machines and I suppose that counts for something. More importantly though, it was loud, it was rocking, it was entertaining…if you’re a young child. Which my girls were; so of course they loved it. And since they loved it, I loved it.

After the show was over, Tracy’s cousin was ready to get some eating on. Fortunately I had my handy dandy All Ears Dining Menu Bookmark saved on my phone and allowed him to peruse the menus. We then walked them to their restaurant. (Which for some odd reason I can’t recall. I think it was either Backlot Express, or ABC Commissary. I know I pointed out the location of Star Tours before hand.) We had an ADR at Whispering Canyon to get to so we bid them a fond farewell and headed towards the park gate. The girls needed to take a facilities time out, so I once again occupied my time by playing with cameras.

First there were these guys who happened to be coming out from backstage.

After crashing through the turnstiles (well, actually I was the only crasher…and it was more of a snagged backpack resulting in a sideward lurch, than a full fledged crashing) we made our way to the bus stop. We were all by ourselves for several minutes, before another family joined us. We wound up with the back row of the bus to ourselves (Which is where the girls ALWAYS wanted to sit.) During the ride I got bored and of course entertained myself in the usual manner.

Why I took that shot, I’ll never know, but I somehow feel compelled to share it.

We soon arrived at the Wilderness Lodge and I got my first glimpse of the place in person.

http://i375.photobucket.com/albums/oo193/greatbiscuit/WDW%202009/DSC01309.jpg
(Sony Cybershot DSC-S700, Auto Mode)

Upon exiting the bus, we were presented with two choices. We could go straight along a covered walkway that seemed to run to the side of the place or we could climb the hill and go in the front door. I wasn’t sure which was the most expedient route, but I decided that I wanted my first impression of the place to be walking through the main door into the lobby. As it turned it out it was faster. We beat the other family on the bus to WCC by a good four minutes.

What was my first impression? Wow. This place was incredible! The layout was different than what I expected. I speculated before that it’s funny how you can look at photos of a place and get an idea of what to expect, but it is never quite what you thought it would be. In this case, it was better. We quickly located Whispering Canyon Café and got ourselves all nice and checked in. It was a quarter till 5 at this point and our ADR was not until 5:05. I still wasn’t sure about my choice to dine here. I had heard mixed reviews and this meal had gone through four changes before I settled on Whispering Canyon. We spent some time exploring and I’m glad we were early. Since WCC doesn’t open for dinner until five, the lobby was practically deserted

It was then that I realized something. I had heard from several DIS’ers how dark it is inside WL and how difficult it can be to take a photo in there. I had brought a tripod on the trip with me to offset this very fact. As I was grabbing out my camera gear, I realized that I had left the tripod in my room. (It remained packed in the suitcase the entire trip.) I searched for options and tried sticking the camera on various objects, but due to the log construction, there are very few flat surfaces at the right height for a photo. I finally managed to get ONE by setting the camera on top of the pressed penny machine.

Unfortunately I couldn’t see through they eyepiece to frame it up.

By that time, a crowd was gathering and right at 5 PM our buzzer went off. We were the second family seated that night and wound up with a table right next to the window. Our server was great and was already deadpanning. He had a very dry humor which I love. (Once again I don’t have the receipts with me to check the names, but I’ll give him a proper shout out in the dining follow up.) He asked us if this was our first time eating at Whispering Canyon and gave us the skinny on the menu.

The girls wound up going with the kids BBQ plate (both with ribs I think) and Tracy and I split a Canyon Skillet. Once the orders were placed, it was time to settle in and enjoy the meal.

Before long, I noticed it was getting dark outside awfully quickly. I wondered if perhaps that meant we had some rain in our future.

The first thing to arrive was the salad.

It was fresh and tasty and made me realize just how hungry I was. (Popcorn does not an adequate lunch make.)

Following quickly on the heels of the salad boat was a tray of hot cornbread.

http://i375.photobucket.com/albums/oo193/greatbiscuit/WDW%202009/DSC01311.jpg
(Sony Cybershot DSC-S700, Auto Mode)

As I was buttering up some bread for the girls I heard a noise behind me and looked to see raindrops pelting the window. I was now VERY thankful that I had taken the earliest available dinner reservation.

As we were waiting on our main courses, I heard the telltale crash of a fork on the other side of the table. Having read enough TR’s describing the particular shenanigans of this establishment, I immediately flagged down a server alerted him of the transgression that had just occurred. No one at the table knew why I was giggling until he returned with this.

Tahli wasn’t sure how serious he was when he brought it out for her to eat with.

By this time it was not only raining outside, but there were flashes of lighting and rumbles of thunder as well. We noticed several folks coming into the restaurant who were completely drenched.

Finally the canyon skillet arrived and it was time to commence to eating.

Now if there’s one thing yours truly takes seriously, it’s Bar-B-Que. (Also known as barbeque for those who don’t live in the South.) And since I was not in an officially recognized Southern state, I wasn’t sure what to expect. (If you missed the BBQ song link in post 1130 which explains all this, you’ll want to click here (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6ubTQfr_tyY).)

My favorite BBQ joints in these parts (should you ever head this way) are as follows: for Brisket (my all time favorite BBQ meat) – Rudy’s. (Unfortunately the closest one is in Georgetown.) For smoked sausage, I have to go with Fat Boys in Temple. For ribs, I like Tony Romas in Austin/San Antonio, and Cheddars in Harker Heights/Austin. For Chicken, I like Fat Boys in Temple or Clem Mikeska in Temple/Killeen. When we visit the in-laws I enjoy a visit to Famous Dave’s in Minneapolis, and when we are back in Kansas City, KC Masterpiece is my restaurant of choice. In short, I LOVE me some Bar-B-Que and have found that most restaurants seem to excel at one particular cut of meat. As to sauce, I prefer mine sweet with a bit of a kick. (Molasses based with a hint of chili peppers.) Why tell you all that? There is a point and I’m getting there.

The skillet was very good. There was nothing on it that I didn’t like. There were however some things that were better than others. The brisket was sliced VERY thin, which isn’t quite how we do it in these parts. It was good, but not quite as flavorful as what we have in Texas. The ribs were also very good, and certainly tender, but I’ve had better. We don’t have pulled pork around here so I had nothing to compare it to, but I enjoyed and ranked it second among the meat offerings. But my favorite meat on the platter was hands down the chicken. It was moist, tender, and extremely flavorful. Knowing how hard it is to grill a good bird, I was impressed.

Tracy’s favorite was the brisket and ribs. Which goes to show you one thing. Two people eating the same food at the same table out of the same skillet had two different opinions. The moral of that story is “Don’t put a lot of stock in online reviews!” Look at the menus, compare it to food you know you like and go from there. The other skillet items were also very good. I wound up getting the beans all to myself. (Prompting Hailee to proclaim in a voice that was much too loud for my liking “Daddy, you better not be farting tonight!”) Yep. My girls know me.

During our meal we noticed quite a few antics going on around us. Ketchup shouts, potty brigades, and at one point we had to stand up and sing the Hokey Pokey. But the girls’ favorite part of the meal was the stick horse race.

They still talk about that whenever we bring up the trip. Soon dessert came out and while I can’t say for sure, I’m pretty sure everyone enjoyed it.

As for me and myself, I went with pie.

http://i375.photobucket.com/albums/oo193/greatbiscuit/WDW%202009/DSC01335.jpg
(Sony Cybershot DSC-S700, Auto Mode)

Now I have to say, my momma (our very own Nana Biscuit) makes a MEAN apple pie. Every year on the birthday, I request this pie in lieu of cake. It’s that good. This one was not my momma’s pie, but I gotta say it came as close as any I’ve ever tasted.

How would I rate our meal overall? We loved the place. In fact this wound up being Tracy’s favorite meal of the trip. I was so happy that I decided to stick with Whispering Canyon.

After we ate we stopped in the Wilderness Lodge Mercantile for some shopping. The girls had their spending money which they had not yet used. While they were shopping I realized that popcorn + gorging on BBQ does not a happy combo make. I advised Tracy that I was going to head to the facilities while she helped the girls finish shopping.

My wife then gave me “the look” and asked the most dreaded of questions. “Are you going to the bathroom or are your going to the BATHROOM?” While this may sound to be a bit cyclical, believe me, I understood her meaning loud and clear. You see, we have a slightly different view on the time requirements related to the performance of one’s digestive finale.

She is of the opinion that if I really wanted to, I could simply enter, then stop drop and roll so to speak. After years of careful analysis, I have determined that when one tries to rush this particular process, it is done so at one’s peril. When I am doing paperwork, I need time to focus; time to concentrate on the task at hand. You must be one with your hindquarters. Otherwise, if you head out too soon, what would have been a harmless whistler later in the evening can turn into a package of doom.

After dealing with dinner and updating my live TR (yeah…I updated in there…and I’m proud of it dangit,) I returned to the store and took a couple of shots on my way in.

I soon found the girls ready to checkout. They had picked up some of the Kooky pens, a couple of charms, and Tahli had selected a very special souvenir. It wasn’t a princess shirt, or a toy, or something that screamed Disney. Nope, not my daughter. The item she chose for herself was……a rock. Yep. That’s what she picked out alright. And no amount of convincing was going to talk her out of it. I reminded her that once she spent all her money, she wasn’t going to get anymore. But this is what she wanted. A blue rock with grey edges which now lives on her dresser. I took a picture later that evening which I’ll post next time.

Well, I had better start winding this down as I believe it is about to win the award for longest episode yet. But a couple of quick things before we wrap it up. Although both girls bough Kooky pens, only Hailee bought the Kooky lanyard. This would lead to a personal adventure on day 7.

After we paid, we headed back out to the lobby and decided how to spend the rest of the evening. We took a final look around and Tracy then gave me a near heart attack. She grabbed my hand, gave me hug and said “Next time, I want us to stay here.”

I absolutely loved this update. Although I really enjoyed Disney Live when Danielle was little, I also glad we can skip this one now. Like I've said before you take the best pictures. We did the covered walk, but after reading this I wish we had taken the walk through the front door. I loved WL and if I could would stay there in a heartbeat. I'm so glad you enjoyed your meal. We loved it and it was our favorite meal as far as fun. Tena and I shared the skillet too. Please explain about the fork thing. I haven't read anything about it and didn't see this while we were there. No hokey pokey for us but we did "If Your Happy and You Know it". Don't feel too bad Dennis has the same reputation with potty problems. I'm more like Tracy, quick in and out where as Dennis will disappear for a while and the females in the family don't let him live it down.

Did you know there used to be a bar above Playhouse Disney? Playhouse used to be a food court of sorts and there was a bar. i think you could even access from the Brown Derby. It was called the Catwalk....and yes, we had drinks up there. I think it was inn 1991.

WCC...BBQ.....check. I'll have to come down to TX and you can take me on the mother of all BBQ joint tours.

I ate there once, but wasn't impressed. I don't even remember what I ordered, but I'll assume it wasn't the ribs. The problem with BBQ is that it seems that people love what they grew up on and everything else is... okay. Well, I grew up in Mexia, TX and my favorite BBQ, as uncouth as it sounds, is just a plain old chipped beef sandwich from Wright's. It has even become something of a tradition in my family that we make a special trip to Mexia just to bring back beef to make sandwiches for our Christmas dinner. We love it! Even DH, who did NOT grow up on Wright's, really loves it.

My nieces have done the same thing at gift shops. DD hasn't yet, but only for a lack of opportunity, I'm sure. My mom and dad even brought rocks back from their vacation for each of the girls - which they all completetly LOVED. Go figure!

What a great update!

I know my kids would LOVE the food at WCC. I like me some BBQ here too but it is not a NW thing. Thankfully I lived in Chicago for 10 years and while it isn't the south, I'm far more up on my brisket and ribs than most of my peers.

To the point where I wouldn't attempt ribs as I didn't want them to be less than stellar. I'm over that now.

I worry about the antics with the older kids but it's on the maybe list for our trip.

After we paid, we headed back out to the lobby and decided how to spend the rest of the evening. We took a final look around and Tracy then gave me a near heart attack. She grabbed my hand, gave me hug and said “Next time, I want us to stay here.”

Well well well....Great Lady Biscuit! Wow.

Your bathroom soliloquies kill me!

And I mean that in the nicest most possible way.

Whispering Canyon is one of the places I want to try.

Is there a man who can just enter the bathroom and "stop, drop, and roll"?:rotfl:

That's like expecting a woman who is trying on pants to not ask "do these make my butt look big?".

Yeaaaah Buddy!!! Major Props for Texas B.B.Q!! :woohoo:

I'll add a couple for you GB. J&J's in Cedar Park Texas, they have the pulled pork you mentioned missing here, I like em better than Rudy's, no joke. My favorite at J&J's is actually the jalapeno sausage links and their turkey, mmmm. Their sauce...well, I could drink it by it's self, it's on the tangy side, not sweet (which I like too) but soooo good. If you, Tracey and girls come out this way you better give me a shout so John, the kids and I can treat you all to some B.B.Q! :)
I will be printing these out and trying the other places you've mentioned here.
Also another great place in Cedar Park (C.P. is just a little bit further down 35 from Georgetown and make a right on 1431, come straight and it's in the parking lot of HEB at 183 and 1431) is Smokey Moe's, just a stone's throw away from J&J's (which is on 1431 just past 183 on the left), my fav here is there chopped beef sandwiches and chopped beef topped baked potatoe.
Thanks for the update about WCC, I've put off wanting to eat here not knowing how I would compare the B.B.Q with what we're use to in Texas, now I'll give it a second thought. :thumbsup2

GB!

I don't know if you were aware of what you were starting...

Next time y'all fly out of Houston, you need to go to Thelma's. (Currently closed due to a fire - coming back soon!) It is in a terrible neighborhood, is run down, and is considered to be (by Bobby Flay, for what it is worth) THE BEST IN AMERICA. Now I don't take his opinion on it, but I can tell you if you don't get there early, they run out! We like to refer to going to Thelma's as getting our beef drunk on. (That sentence is a grammatical nightmare I can't bother to fix!:rotfl:)

THere is also a place in the Hill Country (I'll have to ask Ferris for the name/location) that is only open on Saturday's, starting at 7am. If you're not there by 10, the ribs will be GONE. Cash, by the pound only.

I think I'll have to go to Baker's Ribs for a stuffed potato for lunch - they have a tangy sweet spicy sauce that is just yummy - Jim Goode's for Jalapeno Cheese bread, mmmmmmh.

I LOVE BEING A TEXAN! Thanks for the reminder!

Well, you've sold me on WCC, and all hail First Lady Biscuit! Sounds like another trip is being planned....

I hope y'all are doing well - as always, you are in my prayers!

After crashing through the turnstiles (well, actually I was the only crasher…and it was more of a snagged backpack resulting in a sideward lurch, than a full fledged crashing) we made our way to the bus stop.
Poor Biscuit! Hopfully, no bruises resulted in said crash!

With my new found "limitation", I really want to do some resort hopping. This one and AKL are definitely on my list!

Soon dessert came out and while I can’t say for sure, I’m pretty sure everyone enjoyed it.

We took a final look around and Tracy then gave me a near heart attack. She grabbed my hand, gave me hug and said “Next time, I want us to stay here.”

Please explain about the fork thing. I haven't read anything about it and didn't see this while we were there. If you drop a fork on the floor, they bring you out that giant wooden one and make quite a show about hoping it’s big enough to hold onto. (They do eventually bring you a real fork.)

Don't feel too bad Dennis has the same reputation with potty problems. I'm more like Tracy, quick in and out where as Dennis will disappear for a while and the females in the family don't let him live it down. :rotfl2: Gotta love the universal constant.

What an awesome day! And I (unlike my dial-up connection) love your pictures! Can't wait to read more :)Thanks and :welcome: I try to shrink down the photos to try to be more bandwidth friendly, but with 40 of them in this episode, I imagine it still took a while.

Did you know there used to be a bar above Playhouse Disney? Playhouse used to be a food court of sorts and there was a bar. i think you could even access from the Brown Derby. It was called the Catwalk....and yes, we had drinks up there. I think it was inn 1991. I did not, but it explains a LOT. I was wondering why they built such an elaborate catwalk for this show. You normally don’t see on that big in this type of venue. Now I know. (And knowing is half the battle you know.)

WCC...BBQ.....check. I'll have to come down to TX and you can take me on the mother of all BBQ joint tours.TOTALLY! And from the looks of the posts below, the list is still expanding.

Dude! I'm a database administrator. I am so right there with ya! :rotfl: Let me tell you, I have a new appreciation for your craft! I’m definitely a novice so I’ve spent the last two weeks googling to try to figure out some the queries I needed.

I don't know if you're aware, but Smokey Bones in Waco is long gone. I ate there once, but wasn't impressed. I don't even remember what I ordered, but I'll assume it wasn't the ribs. It’s been about 6 years or so since I ate there so I guess I can officially take it off the list.

If I ever find myself heading through Mexia (which oddly enough I have on several occasions) I’ll stop and check it out.

I know. My nieces have done the same thing at gift shops. DD hasn't yet, but only for a lack of opportunity, I'm sure. My mom and dad even brought rocks back from their vacation for each of the girls - which they all completetly LOVED. Go figure!
popcorn::Kids…what can you do?

I know my kids would LOVE the food at WCC. I like me some BBQ here too but it is not a NW thing. Thankfully I lived in Chicago for 10 years and while it isn't the south, I'm far more up on my brisket and ribs than most of my peers. Awesome. Keep representing up there! One day, we’ll change the world!

Well well well....Great Lady Biscuit! Wow. I was shocked…but happy.

Your bathroom soliloquies kill me!

And I mean that in the nicest most possible way.:rotfl:

I'm dying for some bbq ribs now!
Whispering Canyon is one of the places I want to try. I’d definitely recommend you try it at least once. Even if the food had not been that good, the experience was still fun.

Is there a man who can just enter the bathroom and "stop, drop, and roll"?:rotfl:

That's like expecting a woman who is trying on pants to not ask "do these make my butt look big?".This is the point I’m trying to make.

:thumbsup2Okay, now you got me hungry. One thing if you do head to Mikeskas, the sides aren’t all that great. BUT, Fat Boys is like a mile and a half up the road so you can combine and conquer.

First of all GB...great episode. I remember when DH officially drank the cool aid and it gave me that warm and fuzzy. We are trying a new place this visit and its very close to Wilderness lodge so we may have to try Whispering Canyon. I think I'd love it just to embarass the kids.

I have been told that the best in Waco is Uncle Dan's. I have partaken of it and it's pretty good, but I need to do more research before I endorce.

Ok, I was trying the whole everyday life thing, this morning, but then the toilet clogged. Now, I give up. I deffinitely need a DIS fix. So glad to have a GB update waiting for me.

Awesome update! We're trying out WCC this next trip, and I'm so excited! You don't get alot of good southern food up here, and I looove it.
I think I'm going to print off and frame that picture of the apple pie, if you don't mind. :lmao: That just looks too yummy. I'd be content just to look at it every day.

Staying at the Wilderness Lodge would be an awesome experience. I do love that resort. We've never stayed, either. I hope you get a chance to some day (soon!).

Too funny about the rock. Well, at any rate, it will remind her of the trip. I guess you don't need a souvenir to be layered in Mickey Mice and Disney logos in order to remember where you got it. She'll know why that rock is special.

Love the toilet humor. Thanks for a healthy dose. I had my own not so humerous toilet experience, today, so I needed that. I was trying the whole everyday life thing, this morning, but then the toilet clogged. Now, I give up. I deffinitely need a DIS fix. So glad to have a GB update waiting for me.
And the toilet is sitting there, still clogged. It will just have to wait.

Awesome update!:thumbsup2 I just played the BBQ song- I love it! I don't know how I missed it before, but that is a great song. My DH found it very entertaining as well.

We liked the skillet at WC and had a lot of fun there. We went there for my oldest DD's 12th birthday. The wait staff made her stand in the middle of the restaurant holding the slice of cake they gave her while everyone in WC sang to her. Then they all whipped out forks and ate her cake!:rotfl2: Her expression was priceless!

Uh. I love that video, but they used VA for KY. I mean, I get the CA/FL joke, but really? And yes, they do use mutton in Owensboro. I could go on for days about BBQ. And mustard based sauce is AWESOME, but it only takes a tiny bit (cuz really good BBQ doesn't require sauce).

Oh, and living within a few hours of Memphis growing up (I lived in far Western KY) we had their influence on our ribs, so I just can't count Damon's or Tony Romas as real ribs.

If y'all come out for some good eats, I can assure you that the sides at J&J's are very good! Mmmmm.
Their pinto beans are very tasty, made with their jalapeno sausage and green chili's, very tasty. My fav. is the potato salad, it's fresh mashed potatoes and then all the normal fixins <but not to much celery, leaaaack!

Seriously? No pulled pork? Its not that popular here in St. Louis, but when we lived in Nashville, I had to learn that barbeque was synonomous with pulled pork. See, all along I'd thought it was a verb, silly me;)

[/quote

I have to go to Ireland before we are allowed to go to WDW. I haven't been to the World since I was 3, but I've never been to Ireland....

Mr. Spratt hasn't been to WDW - he grew up in Ireland, hence the trip!

(AND once we have kids, platinum is out the window, unless we win lotto or something....just sayin'...too bad I don't play!)

I wish DH didn't roll his eyes every time I say WDW - but he appreciates my "friends" on the DIS, so I guess that is a start...

Great update! I have a lot of fun memories at WCC. I too would love a stay at the Wilderness Lodge. So lovely and I think DH will really love it. Now I just have to win the Utah State Lottery to pay for it. Oh wait...we don't have a lottery ;)Awesome! I hear you on the lotto...

Caught up! yay.
Hey GB WDW isn't going anywhere and either is that resort......
$5 here $5 there and eventually, you will be there again. :)Another 32 heres and 37 theres and I can afford the first night!

I have to go to Ireland before we are allowed to go to WDW. I haven't been to the World since I was 3, but I've never been to Ireland....First Lady Biscuit spent a week in the British Isles back in college. (Right before we started dating in fact.) I'd love to go someday.

Sooooo.....I TOTALLY feel your pain. And, I know that I am a resort snob. (Don't ask me how - I just do!) AND I want DH to to the Richard PEtty Driving experience, I want to go to V&A's, so I want to go Platinum. We will be lucky if we can manage a trip before we have kids with the amount we need to save! (AND once we have kids, platinum is out the window, unless we win lotto or something....just sayin'...too bad I don't play!)I'm seeing a lotto theme here.

Previously on Biscuit’s Grand Adventure, catwalks were photographed, meat was consumed and a rock was procured. After we left the Wilderness Lodge Mercantile, we spent some time exploring the rest of the lobby. Pausing on the bridge over the fountain that flows out to the pool area, the girls excitedly pointed out the stream to Tracy and I and were amazed that this place had a “river inside” It was one of those countless little moments that all contribute to the magic of a trip to the World. After a final look around the interior of the resort, we stepped out the back door to catch the launch to the Magic Kingdom.

The rain had stopped and the air had taken on the persona of a sauna. The skies were still foreboding and the lifeguards had the pool closed. We wound our way through the pathways behind the resort and in a few minutes, had succeeded in locating the boat dock. Dinner and shopping had killed two and half hours and our plan was to go see Spectro Magic. As we reached the end of the dock, the boat had just finished unloading passengers and we were able to get right on.

Once we started moving, the breeze helped keep the heat at bay. As we crossed Bay Lake and made our way into the Seven Seas lagoon, I reflected on the trip thus far. I couldn’t believe how great things had been going. I felt so blessed to be here, with my wife and children, about to enter the Magic Kingdom for another evening for fun together.

As we approached the dock, the sun found a hole in the clouds.

We arrived in the Magic Kingdom at nine minutes before eight. (A little hard to see in this edited for broadcast shot, but easy to read on the original.)

Spectro was about an hour away and I knew we needed to grab some curb. As we strolled down Main Street, it seemed as if the entirety of this glorious boulevard was already well lined with parade enthusiasts. My initial thought was to head over to Frontierland and find a spot near the end of the parade route.

Upon reaching the hub, we encountered a cast member who was bedecked with a stockpile of hula hoops. The girls were immediately drawn to him like Abu to the forbidden treasure. Within moments they were happily hooping in the middle of the street with several other children.

While they were thus engaged, I noticed that there was still plenty of open curb in the center of the hub. (Would one call that the hubcap?) Anyway First Lady Biscuit and I grabbed a spot right where the trolley tracks split in the pavement. As we looked straight ahead, we were looking down Main Street. At this point in time, we still had about fifty minutes to go until the parade started. As we sat, we met some of those folks around us. It turned out that we wound up in the midst of a spontaneous Texan park guest meet. The people on both sides of and behind us were all from the Lone Star State.

About ten minutes before parade time, I saw something I had never noticed before. A handler and a driver pulled up in a brightly themed tractor and parked it in a nifty little taped-off area right where the floats enter the hub. I figured it must be some sort of emergency towing vehicle. I also noticed a gentleman who was a bit more dressed up than most of the CM's I had seen before. He positioned himself near the tractor with a radio. During the parade, I noticed him spending most of his time on the radio. It was interesting to see some of the inner workings I had never seen before.

No sooner had the tractor gotten into place, than the clouds opened up a bit and began to sprinkle. We broke out the ponchos for the first time of the trip and soon we were all properly shielded.

Have you ever wondered what kind of a parent lets their kids take their shoes off in the Magic Kingdom? Well, apparently this kind. Hailee had been wearing sandals earlier in the day and these were quickly shed to stomp in puddles.

As the parade was starting, Hailee came and sat in my lap. I didn’t take too many photos. I just held my daughter and we watched the parade together.

About half way through the parade, we got to see the standby tractor in action. The Metronome float got stuck as it was approaching the hub. It was then that I noticed that there was actually a slope upwards from Main Street to the Castle. Radio dude whipped out some flashlights that resembled those used by ground crews to“park” an airplane. He shot some signals to tractor driver guy and guided him to the float where handler man hooked him up. Then the rig pulled the float about 20 feet or so to the top of the slope. Radio dude did some more fancy flashlight signals and the tractor disconnected and returned to its parking spot. What amazed me is that the entire process took MAYBE 60 seconds. They were insanely fast and precise. Not the best shot, but I tried to brighten it up as much as possible to see Tractor Driver Guy (on the right) and Radio Dude (on the left) in action. (Handler man has moved to the side at this point.)

http://i375.photobucket.com/albums/oo193/greatbiscuit/WDW%202009/DSC01402.jpg
(Sony Cybershot DSC-S700, Auto Mode)

The girls were in awe of the parade and loved being able to finally sit and watch the entire thing. When it was over, I realized that we were now in a PERFECT spot to view Wishes. I was feeling quite pleased with myself that we scored such an awesome locale. Then I felt the familiar tug on my shirt and realized in an instant that it was not to be. A restroom break was urgently needed.

After the girls were done, I figured we could still score a good spot to watch, but they wanted to go back to the resort and swim. I reminded myself of my pledge to not be that parent who forced his kids to stay in the parks, and we headed to the bus stop.

Riding back to the Pop Century, the girls were very excited about trying out the computer pool. They had already been in the Hippy Dippy and Bowling Pin pools and could not wait to try this one out. Once we arrived back, we headed to our room to get changed. Since sunscreen was not a concern, it didn’t take long until we were all ready to hit to the pool. I brought our mugs along and stopped to fill them on the way. I had wandered over to the computer pool on the day of digestive instability, but the girls had not yet been over that way. They loved the foosball court and really got a kick out of the giant Potato Heads.

The pool was not overly crowded, and soon we were all splashing and playing in the water. There were many rounds of motor boat, jumping, surfing and the like. The rain did not return while we were swimming and we spent a good hour in the pool. Finally it was time to head back to the room and get ready for bed. We had our one and only breakfast reservation for the next morning. It was one the girls had been talking about for months. We were going to breakfast with the princesses. And let me tell you, the results would not be pretty.

Then it was “fun with zoom” time.
Ooo, I love "fun with zoom" time! :yay: Here's what I want to know: do you keep two cameras at the ready, one equipped with zoom and one with an all-purpose lens, or do you stop and switch lenses? I can't tell you how many times I've brought along the super-zoom and never took it out of my bag; just too much work to get it out and switch lenses. :guilty:

As I was grabbing out my camera gear, I realized that I had left the tripod in my room. (It remained packed in the suitcase the entire trip.)

(It tends to under-expose if you go with the suggested perfect reading so I always open up 1 f-stop.) I didn't really pull it out on the trip except for this one day.

How bizarre! I've never seen that.I hadn't either. It was interesting though.

It's all good! I still love to listen to the music from Main Street Electrical Parade. We still laugh about the rock. We had some drama the other day when the rock disappeared. But it was eventually located and returned to it's place of honor on the dresser.

May I just say, there is no better way to start my morning than with a biscuit update. My cup of coffee might get me going but your updates always fill my soul. What a lovely start to the day. The sun is shining for once here and as Eric would say..."Ahhhhh!"

Of course it would be in his best "alleluia" voice, as if the angels came out, it's a noise he makes when especially pleased. I love that sound.

Previously on Biscuit’s Grand Adventure, hoops were hula’ed, parades were viewed and the final Pop pool was conquered.

I surveyed the grand hall of the castle as the royal court dined. In attendance were the knights of the kingdom and all of the nobles of the realm. I had just begun to taste the most delectable of desserts when a piercing shriek filed the air with doom and dread. It was my arch enemy the Dragon of Dawninton. I immediately sent the queen and the princesses to their royal chambers and rallied my knights. “Stand fast noble warriors for this night we defend our kingdom!” “Matt.” “Unsheath thine swords and prepare to meet your enemy!” “Matt?” “We fight for honor and country!” “MATT!” “What?” “Quit waving your phone around and go get in the shower.” “Right!”

Where am I? What is the meaning of this? Alas! It is my ancient foe! The burr in my biscuit! It is morning! “Curse ye o’ sunny one!” “Matt.” “Shine thy rays of brightness on some other land!” “Matt?” “Your plans of wakefulness shall not prevail” “MATT!” “What?” “Stop talking to the window and go get in the shower.” “Right!”

stinking-morning-waking-me-up-early-gotta-get-moving-want-to-sleep-not-happy-bisuit-gotta-shower-get-ready-eat-princess-breakfast….princess-breakfast….where have I heard that before….that’s at Epcot…I’m at Disney World. OH WHAT A GREAT AND WONDEROURS DAY!

I entered the portal of cleanliness and offered up a prayer of hope that all fellow subjects of the kingdom which we would encounter that day might follow suit. I emerge revived, refreshed, and dare I say, Zest fully clean! It was time to journey forth to the Hall of Greatness to procure a morning cup of glorious caffeination. I girded my loins in the shorts of manliness and sallied forth to the front of the castle. What a grand day it was indeed! The rays of the sun sparkled off of the paisley moat. The birds sang a song of welcome.

I crossed the rampart to the tower of yo-yo and descended to the lower bailey. Upon entering the main hall, I was greeted by a loyal subject who required assistance with his photographic device. “Why yes my good man. I should be most honored to assist you in recording this moment of nostalgic posterity.” After arranging all parties concerned in an appropriate posture, it was incumbent upon me to bring out the true emotion that this occasion required. “As we approach this sacred moment, think fondly of all that has transpired in this iconic place of wonder.” “Sir.” “Revel thine selves in the joy that this day no doubt holds before thee.” “Sir?” “Let this moment of indescribable jubilation fully penetrate the inner fibers of your being!” “SIR!” “What?” “Just press the button.” “Right!”

Having fulfilled my photographic obligations, it was time to approach the enchanted founts of glory. I positioned my goblets below the magical spouts and soon my cup was running over with glorious bubbly goodness. What sort of magical place is this where one might partake of the resplendent Cola of Coca for breakfast! Soon the magnificence that is caffeine was coursing through my veins. It was time to return to my chambers and gather the queen and the princesses. Crossing back through the castle proper, the sweet sounds of music met my ears. Yes my minstrels, proclaim your message loud and strong! Truly this day we shall have fun, fun, fun till our daddy takes the T-bird away!

Soon I arrived back at my alcove. “Good morning princesses!” “Daddy.” “What a grand and glorious day we have been allotted!” “Daddy?” “Let us ride forth and partake of this gift we have been given!” “DADDY!” “What?” “You’re annoying me.” “Right!” In preparation for this breakfast banquet with the princesses of other realms, we had brought our daughters’ royal raiment with us.

Upon being clad in these silken garments, an inquiry was made into the logic of my personal wardrobe selection. Though I had plenty of other options before me, I had once again chosen to outfit myself with the royal crest of Biscuitdom. “This shirt shall be a beacon of DIS-ing to those about me.” “Daddy.” “It shall proclaim to all that I am Biscuit and my adventure is grand.” “Daddy?” “It shall serve as a pennon of inspiration to all parties concerned.” “DADDY!” “What?” “You already wore that.” “Right! But I did laundry, though I must confess the perils it entailed were severe.”

Before long, it was time to seek out our coach that we might ride to the land of Norway. It is a good land, and not at all stuck up. Within moments the giant orb of Epcot came into view. “We have arrived my family. Let us journey together to this land of wonder.” See the endless trail that stretches before me. See the gates through which the entrance is so tantalizingly near, yet so far away! See the line before us at the bag check table. “Look my children at the entrance plaza shining in the morning sun.” “Sir.” “Behold the turnstiles beckoning us to spin their wheel of entrance to this glorious kingdom!” “Sir?” “Observe the great orb which houses Spaceship Earth!” “SIR!” “What?” “Open your bag please sir.” “Right!”

Through the world of the future we journeyed, heading ever onwards to our ultimate destination, the Akershus Royal Banquet Hall. “We have arrived at the grand entrance to our royal hall of dining!” “Matt.” “Let us register our names that we might be announced with proper royal fanfare!” “Matt?” “Allow us to pass into this cavern of royal breakfast consumption!” “Matt!” “What?” “If you don’t stop talking like that you are not going to live through ‘royal breakfast consumption’ ” “Riiiii…..oh. right.”

Where was I? We had just arrived in the Norway Pavilion and were preparing to check in for breakfast. For those of you who have not been to this particular establishment, the process is, for lack of a better word, wonky. When we arrived, we discovered two lines which served as bookends to a large group of folks milling about. Thanks to the TR’s I had read, I knew that we needed to first stand in the registration line, then move to general “crowd area” and wait to be called, then enter the line at the door. I sent the girls to sit in the shade while I handled the particulars. Our check in time was 10:15 and thanks to perfect bus timing, we were a bit early so I hoped it would not be too long of a wait.

When I returned to the girls, I encountered meltdown number 1. The Shoes. The girls had worn sandals to the park and it was time to change into their “Princess” shoes.

Now there is something you need to know about Hailee. She doesn’t like shoes. If the girl could be barefoot 24/7 she would be. Getting her shoes on is the most time consuming portion of getting her ready because she fusses over her socks endlessly. (I usually put her socks on first while she is still sleeping.) Well, once her sandals were off, she didn’t want to put her princess shoes on. They didn’t feel good. We finally convinced her that shoes were a prerequisite for entry, and she eventually settled down a bit.

Crisis averted, I took a few minutes to snap some photos for a panoramic.

They soon called our name and we moved forward to the line at the door. (From which I took a shot at a troll…or of a troll anyway.)

The girls were hot and were ready to get inside. Apparently they were not the only ones who were cranky. When we got to the hostess stand, one of the hostesses launched into a fiery tirade of Norwegian to the other hostess. I’m have no idea what she said, but I’m pretty sure it had to deal with a particularly, shall we say, “vocal” guest who had been seated a few moments before. Either that or her Fastpass for Soarin was about to expire and she wanted to go on break.

Soon we were admitted into the restaurant where we joined our third line at Akershus, that of the requisite Princess Photo. As soon as I saw Belle was the greeter, I knew things were looking up. Belle is Hailee's favorite princess. She had been talking about meeting Belle for weeks and the encouter did not disappoint. We sent the girls alone and I took my own picture before mister Official Photo Guy got one. His turned out better, but I don’t have an electronic copy to post so this one will have to do.

When the photos were done, Belle gave the girls a hug. Then she said "Bye Aurora! Bye Little Me!" It was too cute We were soon seated in the room right next to where Belle was taking photos.

I knew going in that food would be problematic. The girls wanted to dine with a princess, but I couldn’t bring myself to give up two dining credits to do Cindy’s and 1900 Park Fare just didn’t feel right. After perusing the menus at All Ears, we decided that of the Akershus options, breakfast would be the one most likely to satisfy our finicky eaters.

Hailee is not a huge breakfast fan but does like bananas. I had seen photos of the fruit bar before so I knew they had them here. Of course I made the mistake of telling her that before we arrived so she was expecting them. I went up to get her one and there were not any in sight. I asked the guy stocking the cheese if they had any more in the back. He disappeared for several minutes, then came back and advised that they were out. Seriously? Dude you got the world’s coolest greenhouse a stones throw away. Can’t you go pick a few? Apparently not.

I returned to the table where, as I feared, this particular intelligence led to meltdown number 2.

Fortunately, First Lady Biscuit is an expert in dealing with these sorts of things. I mean, she does it for a living for crying out loud and she’s great at it. She placed a silly face game with Hailee and within a few minutes all was well.

(This shot may or may not have been the result of a cry of “That’s not fair! I want my picture with mommy too!”)

Whew. Another crisis (or two) averted. They brought out the hot foods on a platter to the table, and I loaded up on pretty much one of the everything up at the cold foods bar. Food wise, I gotta say, we were not feeling the love for this place. Maybe lunch would have been a better choice after all. They had good cheese. That’s about all I can say for it. The rest was just, well, blahs-ville comes to mind.

The princesses soon came around and it was time for the requisite photos.

Is it just me or does Ariel appear to have just caught a whiff of something? (It wasn’t me, I promise!)

By the end of the meal both girls were starting to get a bit fussy and we knew we were living on borrowed time.

While we were waiting on the bill, Tracy and I made a command decision to skip any further morning touring and go back to the resort for a nap. We also discussed the meal and our thoughts on it. Overall impressions of the place? It was the least favorite meal all the way around. Had we not been on the dining plan and this was an out of pocket deal, I would have been extremely upset at paying over $100 on said dining experience. But like I have said about a dozen times thus far. Don’t take my word on it. Try it yourself and see. Some folks love this joint.

On the way out, we stopped at the facilities. Apparently there was an issue with Hailee being upset over sticky hands. When they came out of the bathroom, she was in meltdown number 3 (or was it 4?) and needed to be held a few minutes.

http://i375.photobucket.com/albums/oo193/greatbiscuit/WDW%202009/DSC01482.jpg
(Sony Cybershot DSC-S700, Auto Mode)

I calmed her down a bit and let her ride on my shoulders when we left the restaurant. (One of her favorite things.) Of course this meant that after a few minutes, Tahli also wanted a turn.

Sidebar - Okay this is weird, but I actually felt a pain in my neck remembering that. They wanted rides on my shoulders all week long and it was a good two weeks after we got home before my neck was back to normal.

The girls were already fussing about being hot so I decided to drop them off at Mouse Gears while I headed over to The Land to grab us some Soarin Fastpasses for later that evening. They perked up a bit at the through of air conditioning and shopping. I left them to look at T-shirts while I ran to grab our FP’s. Our return time was 6:50 PM so we had plenty of time for an afternoon nap. SCORE! I shot a couple of pics on the way back.

When I returned, the girls had picked out a couple of things. Hailee had gone with a Minnie Mouse, Polly-Pocket type doll set thingy. Tahli had elected to punt and wait to spend the last of her cash.

We did a bit more browsing after I arrived before we headed out to the bus stop. They were not happy to be walking in the heat again. By the time we got there, the girls were DONE. They just didn’t have any gas left in their little tanks.

A bus eventually arrived and before it left the bus stop, Tahli was out.

By the time we got out of the parking lot, so was Hailee. Tracy and I discussed the morning and decided that breakfast at The World was just not for us. This was the one and only time that we dealt with meltdowns and crankiness the entire trip. Even though our ADR was at 10:30, we had still gotten up pretty early to get the girls’ hair done and get them all gussied up. We vowed from that point forward to stick with our late nights and sleeping in. It works for us. It’s how we’re wired. It’s how we roll baby.

We got the girls back to the room and put them to bed. We hoped to do an evening EMH at Hollywood Studios so Tracy and I joined them. I set an alarm, killed the lights and returned to my castle of dreams.

Well I got 2 episodes for the price of one! Sorry that breakfast was not great. You would think for that price the guy could have found a piece of fruit (dining plan or not)! We did the Cinderella's castle breakfast last time...while the princesses were cool the rest was okay. I think the only reason why we would do it again was so that my youngest would have memories of it. Luckily we got to stay at the Wilderness Lodge last time....my DH doesn't want to stay anywhere else now. It was very nice and the lobby was always fun for my girls.

I hope you guys get to stay at the WL but really I think anywhere on Disney is good cuz well you're at Disney!!!:banana:

I just got caught up! Glad you enjoyed the WL, we loved it and DH now refuses to let me even suggest another resort for our next trip. We had breakfast at the WCC and unfortunately we didn't get to experience ANY of the fun antics that make the WCC's atmosphere. I ended up canceling our lunch ADR and I regret it now.

Wow, looking at your Princess pics I noticed that none of the princesses are the same. We weren't that impressed with Akershus either but it will probally stay on our list since of the interaction. Tell Hailee I am right there with her on shoes I would go barefoot year round if I could!

Looks like I'm going to have to rethink our ADR for Akershus's, my dd10 looked at reviews and liked what they had to offer for breakfast over what the Castle had. <sigh>
I still have the Castle ADR scheduled (scored that today) but I'm not sure if I'm willing to let either go at this point. I have roughly 6 months to decide.....oh the torture of ADR's. ;) I think in the end I'll end up honoring what the little lady wants. :goodvibes This trip is big brothers high school graduation celebration, but we need to maker her feel she's just as special.
Sorry to hi-jack. :)

Masterful writing, oh scribe of great reknown! Chroncals such as these in history may go down!!

Yeah, we're so with you- late(r) nights, NO early AMs. They stink!

Bummer the food was so meh. I'd have been mad too at the bill- good thing you were on the noblemen's dining plan!

blahsville food, melting princesses and all from a writing standpoint one of my all time favorite Biscuit updates!

What a riot and it is lovely you are able, in retrospect, to make light of what sounds like a horribly draining morning with little reward at the time.

My family has a split personality, we have half of the sleep in late night variety and half of the up early late (but not AS late) night variety. It causes morning anst. It remains to be seen how that really pans out on this next blisteringly hot trip.

I'm so sorry your meal wasn't as Magical as the others. Early mornings are rough after late nights and the heat makes it even worse. I'm trying to remember if I saw any bananas when we were there. Although I like bananas my true love is strawberries and yes I do remember seeing those. I've eaten there 3 times and had good experiences except for the wait. Next trip we're going to try lunch.

You know, people just don't use the phrase "sally forth" as much as they should.

Thanks for not leaving us hanging for too long, GB.

My girls (13, 8, and 3) never sleep in. Ever. And since late nights are out of the question for us, we stick with what we know and always hit rope drop. Kind of the non-GB touring plan.

We loves us some breakfast ressies at the World. This year (as we always do) we had an 8:00 at CRT, and the food was different. Very meh-like. It was definitely a theme, as we were disappointed at Chef Mickey's and many other places as well.

But it's still Disney World, and I still didn't have to cook it or clean up, so it's was all good. And it was all "free." This was our first year of free dining, and we tried many, many places we normally wouldn't spend the time or money on. It was fine, but not even Le Cellier lived up to my expectations.

Next year, if we have the options that have presented themselves in the past, I think we'll go for the room discounts instead of free dining. We'll go back to our limited array of table service meals, but mix it up a little bit. We've never tried Norway, and despite being fully briefed on what to expect, we'll see how it goes.

Write on, Good Biscuit!

Wow, looking at your Princess pics I noticed that none of the princesses are the same. We weren't that impressed with Akershus either but it will probally stay on our list since of the interaction. Tell Hailee I am right there with her on shoes I would go barefoot year round if I could!I noticed that in other folks photos are a tone of different CM’s playing the roles. The best CM of the bunch character wise during our visit was Snow White. She had the voice and mannerisms down PERFECT. Ariel seemed like she was in a bit of a daze the entire time and her entire repertoire was limited to “Good Morning Princesses”. Aurora and Bell both did a great job interacting with the girls. Cinderella was the most “royal” and remained regal & proper throughout.

Awesome update as usual GB!!!! Funny how for us it's early mornings that work !!! Kyle is up at the crack of dawn and then it's useless to even try to sleep!!!!:rotfl2:Now by supper time he is DONE only wants the POOL!!! So it's what works for you !!!:thumbsup2The thing I think I learned the most from our “training run” and our many trips to Sea World is that forcing the girls to get up early and go all day always ends poorly. Conversely we would often see parents forcing their kids to stay till closing during said excursions whose kids were in full on meltdown mode. You have to know your kids and plan what is going to work best for you. Let’s face it. We’d all LOVE to be able to be at the Morning EMH rope drop and stay till the Evening EMH gate closing. And if you had a one day trip, and everyone was well rested the day before, and your kids were old enough to handle the power touring, and if it wasn’t too hot outside, then MAYBE you could pull it off. But reality for us is, we have a limited number of hours per day the girls can handle so it’s best to use those hours during times when the girls will have the most energy and get the most enjoyment out of it. (Was that a ridiculously long reply?)

Another update well done.....your talent for writing is why I started reading your TR's and it's why I keep coming back for more. :thumbsup2Thanks Millie!

What a riot and it is lovely you are able, in retrospect, to make light of what sounds like a horribly draining morning with little reward at the time. Yeah, we were definitely glad to see that morning come to an end. But in hindsight, it wasn’t nearly as bad as it could have been.

My family has a split personality, we have half of the sleep in late night variety and half of the up early late (but not AS late) night variety. It causes morning anst. Thanks for not leaving us hanging for too long, GB. Thank my trainer. We had a section of class where we were given a Blackberry technical problem that we had to: Identify, list the steps to resolve, compose an email to the customer, and list the escalation path. She gave us 90 minutes to do this. 90. As in an hour and a half. That’s like an entire Disney Animated Feature. With Previews. In her defense, most of the people in the class were not from tech support. I spend 8 hours a day troubleshooting Blackberries. I was done in 4 minutes. I asked her what I should be doing and her reply was “I don’t care as long as you’re quiet.” And thus Episode 71 was born.

My girls (13, 8, and 3) never sleep in. Ever. And since late nights are out of the question for us, we stick with what we know and always hit rope drop. Kind of the non-GB touring plan. The Anti-Biscuit. I like it!

We loves us some breakfast ressies at the World. I wanted to. Really I did. Just not sure if the place was having an off day or what.

This year (as we always do) we had an 8:00 at CRT, and the food was different. Very meh-like. It was definitely a theme, as we were disappointed at Chef Mickey's and many other places as well.

We've never tried Norway, and despite being fully briefed on what to expect, we'll see how it goes. This has sadly been a recurring theme since the induction of free dining. Don’t know if it’s that they restaurants make less, or just have such a larger quantity of orders to fill that they can’t maintain quality or what. It’s sad really. In a way I’m glad I didn’t eat at many TS places in the old days. At least now I don’t know what I’m missing.

What a friggin' awesome update, GB! Seriously. Your talent for writing just blows me away. Now, I'm not saying I couldn't have written something that original and entertaining - it's just that someone else would have had to give me the idea and then I would have had to write and write and edit and re-edit and re-edit and re-edit for about a YEAR before flipping a coin to decide whether to post it or trash it and give up on the whole stinkin' thing.

It sure is a good thing that all four of yall can all be night owls together. I think DH and I (NOT morning people) will just have to suck it up when we take DD to WDW and do the early mornings because that girl is always up and at 'em before sunrise. Out of the three of us, I figure *I* will be the most likely one to have a morning meltdown. On the other hand, the beast can usually be soothed by a big ol' breakfast. I may not be a morning person, but I do love me some breakfast.

Thanks for the incredible update!

We loved Akershus for lunch and I'm right there with ya on the cheese! It got me hooked on Jarlsburg, which is unfortunately not cheap at the local Kroger's. I also have a kid that would eat her weight in bacon. We are morning people and just couldn't function on the late night schedule--you got to do what works with your family for sure.

This was a great installment! :thumbsup2

Caught up! :thumbsup2Woohoo!

I may not be a morning person, but I do love me some breakfast.I like breakfast food, I just usualy eat it later.

“Matt!” “What?” “If you don’t stop talking like that you are not going to live through ‘royal breakfast consumption’ ” “Riiiii…..oh. right.”

Tracy lasted longer than I would have:rotfl2:

By the time we got out of the parking lot, so was Hailee. Tracy and I discussed the morning and decided that breakfast at The World was just not for us. This was the one and only time that we dealt with meltdowns and crankiness the entire trip. Even though our ADR was at 10:30, we had still gotten up pretty early to get the girls’ hair done and get them all gussied up. We vowed from that point forward to stick with our late nights and sleeping in. It works for us. It’s how we’re wired. It’s how we roll baby.

We found this with Jimmy too. Normally heis an early to bed early to risekid, but something at WDW makes him a late night/late morning kid:thumbsup2

That Ariel disturbs me slightly. She's orange.

Sorry to hear about the rough morning! But, at least you have some lovely pictures (minus the orange girl) of the Princesses with your girls! :thumbsup2 And, good learning experience-now you know how to tour for the next trip.

I hope the nap did you all well and you are able to make it to EMH!

I thought I had already commented on your update and realized I hadn't! I wish you had a better experience at Akershus, but as you said, if it's one day out of the whole time you're there it's not too bad :) I'm still trying to decide what kind of character meal to do for Piper while we're there, and from what I've seen of the breakfast reviews, lunch or dinner might be the way to go, lol. Hey GB,

I've been reading but evidently not posting :confused3

I KNEW you guys would love WCC! My son is TERRIFIED of attention, so we've steered clear since the kids hit pre-teen-hood (which is now full-teen-hood). But I do recall liking the food! (Not that I'm much of a BBQ expert...)

I must say, I am very impressed with your willingness to go with the flow, as far as the girls and their tolerance levels are concerned. Whether it's leaving MK before Wishes for a dip in the pool or heading back to the resort after a less than satisfying breakfast for a nap, you certainly used your head and avoided those all too common meltdown disasters! There's an important lesson there that I wish more people would learn.

My sister and her family tried the Akershus breakfast and were similarly disappointed. Funny, she also said that Snow White was the best "in character" princess. And I agree with everyone else. That Ariel is scarily orange and rather bizarre looking.;)

I knew you guys had been doing some late nights, but I guess I didn't notice that you were sleeping in as well. So that's how you do it. Normally, thats me at home, but on vacation I am up early and I burn out early. I so wish we could make the evening EMH's because nighttime in the parks is my favorite, but it never seems to happen.:confused3

We love our breakfasts at Disney. Course as a clan my extended family have brunches when we get together too (yes, for thanksgiving, christmas or easter too. Then we all leave and see the other side of our families for dinner.) So perhaps the breakfast thing has been fostered in my kids.

But the great thing about Disney is that you have tons of options. Sometimes you find something that works and sometimes you find it just doesn't. Now you're free to explore other options. For us, Akersus breakfast is must. Each to their own.

Evening EMH to me, is the money shot that will ensure we always stay on property. Not that the other benefits are bad, but to me, it totally made the trip.

Askershus is one of our favorites, mostly because my boys love anything containing the words "all you can eat". and I get my fill of the princesses without making them stand in lines.

Poor Ariel is getting the bum deal. I think SHE doesn't make a good Ariel. I think she's probably very pretty when she's out of her get up. However, in Ariel mode, she just looks off.You do raise a valid point. I’m sure she’s a lovely girl. She just has a bit of a, well…misguided sense of character recreation. Maybe she was having an off day. Or maybe she’s an understudy. Or maybe nobody showed up and they were desperate for a character and grabbed some poor CM backstage and stuck her in a dress and wig and said go wave at people and pose for thirty one thousand photos. It could happen.

What a fun update! It's interesting that Snow White was the most in character because I was looking at the picture of her in you report and thinking, "wow, she looks [I]so[I] much like the real deal. Maybe she really was!!!
It had me :lmao: that you used that G.I Joe quote in one of your responses, '...and learning is half the battle'. My husband uses that quote all the time (as often as he can, really).

No episode today, but I do have some aimless thoughts rambling about my head in case anyone is interested. If you prefer a more normal discourse, I have added some more TR’s to the intermission post.

Today is weird. And on weird days I get into weird moods. Part of the oddity comes from my asthma which after a fairly lengthy absence has returned with a vengeance. I’m currently loaded up on Albuterol and a Starbucks latte. (That hot caffeine helps and I’m doing all I can to avoid the ER.) Add to that my sinus meds and I’m jitterier than a cat in a car wash. (Is jitterier a word?) And my mind is going a bit too fast to keep up with.

So the first topic on my brain today is show tunes. My current love for video production actually began in live production. Way back in the 8th grade, I filled in as a spotlight operator for a church musical. From that point forward I have always loved live theater and especially musicals.

There are so many greats out there. The transformer-esque set of Les Miserables would be awesome even without the music and story. Phantom of the Opera always brings a smile to my face. Fiddler on the Roof brings to mind the gremlin riddled production from college that included a shattered light and near fire. Classics like The Music Man and Hello Dolly bring back the productions for which I built sets and ran the light board. There’s just something about being involved in a production that I absolutely LOVE. But of all the various musicals out there, there is one which ranks high among my favorite that I have never had the pleasure of seeing live: Into The Woods.

I was first introduced to this production in the early 1990’s when I saw a TV broadcast of the original Broadway cast. I have several of the songs loaded up on iTunes and have seen the recorded play one other time since. There’s just something intriguing about this show that appeals to my quirky side. I mean come on, Rapunzel having a breakdown, Prince Charming having an affair, Cinderella’s step sisters mutilating their toes, most of the cast ending up dead…what’s not to love? Plus the music is awesome. It’s the soundtrack of the day today and fits my mood. (Oh and another favorite quirky musical that I’ve never seen live? Starlight Express.)

Moving right along, any slapstick comedy fans out there? I love me some Three Stooges. One of the old go to gags was the slipping on the banana peel routine. How many times have we seen this gag repeated? Dozens, hundreds maybe? And how many times have we thought “yeah right.” I can now tell you, that stuff right there is true my friend!

I was making some banana splits the other night and did not realize a peel had fallen to the floor. In my classic style of self injury, I took a step back on went zooming across the kitchen like some sort of freakish ice skating sumo wrestler. Hmmm…now there’s an Olympic sport I’d like to see. Anyway…after sliding half way across the room, I somehow managed to roll right and crash into the counter, thus keeping myself upright.

What does any of this have to do with anything? Not much. But sometimes you just have to clear out your thoughts to make room for more important things. It’s like a defragmenting your hard drive. Only in this case it’s your brain.

On a more serious note, my cousin’s wife had to have an emergency C-section last night. She was not full term and the baby is stable, but has a fight ahead of him. So I guess part of my rambling here is my go to stress therapy of looking for those silver linings that always accompany the darkest of storms. I have the unfortunate propensity to laugh in inappropriate situations. People who don’t know me that well might sometimes think I’m not taking a situation seriously. It’s just part of my makeup. (Makeup as in elements comprising a whole, not Maybelline …don’t want to start any wild rumors flying out there.)

Thanksgiving was fun. We drove to Dallas and did the whole extended family, once a year, mass get together thing. Aunt Jana says hey. Okay, she really didn’t, but if she knew there was a following, I’m sure she would have. Following the out of town festivities, I made a turkey dinner for the ladies and we enjoyed our own holiday feast at home on Friday. (Thank you Alton Brown for the awesome turkey brine recipe. Have I mentioned before that I LOOOOOOOVE to watch Good Eats?)

Well, I think that’s about it. For now anyway. I hope to be able to post soon. Farewell my friends!

Hi back atcha! One of the most peculiar side affects of asthma is being tired and giddy all at the same time. Albuterol makes you feel all pumped up, but once you stand you are instantly exhausted.

1~ I LOVE musicals!! I've been involved in local theater most of my life and those are my favorites to do. My personal favorite is Meet me in St.Louis And since my alter ego is an opera diva I can frequently be seen running around town in the mom-mobile belting out Phantom of the Opera. Embarasses my kids EVERY time. Especialy when they have friends along for the ride.

2~ Loved the banana.......how sad is it that everytime I need to spell banana (just did it again) I have the old cheer from high school cheerleading go through my head...go banana's b a n a n a s.........where was I?

Oh yeah, I'd pay good money to see sumo ice skating!:rotfl2:
At least you can blame your near fall on something....

3~ I hope your cousin and baby are doing well. How early is the baby? I had my first 8 weeks early and he spent 2 weeks in the NICU...scariest time of my life. I'll add them to my prayers.

That's our fam. fave, but around here tis the put your hands together under the chin routine and crank out, some "meet me in st. louis, louis..." :rolleyes1

but then my 7 year old chimes in with the, "I was drunk last night, dear mother, I was drunk the night before...". If she does it in Walmart after we get back, I may the CSD on my case.

Oh GB, I too have respiratory issues though not as severe as yours. I had severe bronchitis every year for 4-5 years when I was a teen. My doctor said it has compromised my respiratory system. Anytime the winds kick up, I feel like dying and get extremely tired. Fires, which are common here, are NOT good. I feel your pain.

I love the MUSIC from musicals, but have never really loved them as a form of entertainment. I keep trying. I saw Wicked a few years ago and I did like it, but I still am not a fan. The music, however, is always, always has a huge impact on me. Les Miz for sure! I love the TV show Glee as well.

Glad you had a good Thanksgiving.

So I was up much later than normal and crashed around 11:30. Then I woke up Wide awake and figured hey, I must have awakened a few min early, guess I'll get up and start the day. So I look at the clock and its 2:15! HOLY FART KNOCK BATMAN! Which brings up the LOVELY side effect of asthma meds...insomnia. On the plus side I guess I can read a TR or two. On the bad side, it increases the likelyhood I will have to call in tomorrow which I HATE to do. We can only have 5 unsched abscences on our record at a time and each one stays on your record for a full 12 months from the day you miss. Boo to "the man" I say!

Reminds me, it's time to watch it in our Christmas line up. Love that "Have Yourself a Merry, Little Christmas..." . Truth be known, I love anything Judy sings.

:lmao: If she's anything like my kids, she will pick the worst time possible to belt that out!

I'm a huge Judy fan too. My other fav of her's is Easter Parade.

My favorite christmas musical is White Christmas. Bing Crosby's voice makes me swoon.:lovestruc I think I was born about 40 years too late.

A few years back, we bought the White Christmas box set which includes a CD full of Bing Christmas music. We had it playing when we put the tree up.

On My Own is a great one. I think my fav Les Mis song is A Little Drop of Rain. I Dreamed a Dream is another good one. LOVE the clip on You Tube when Susan Boyle first auditioned and belted it out.

I think I've watched that clip about 35 times. She is quite amazing!

We love anything Judy. I can relate to you All7OfUs. My 3 year old belts out "We will dance the pootsie pootsie and I'll be your hoochie coochie." ;) My fave Judy song believe it or not is her recording of the song Savoy.

Meet Me in St Louis was the movie of the month at our house last month. The month before it was Singin in the Rain. This month so far is White Christmas. I agree Winkers, I love his voice. On a side note, my dh's grandfather used to deliver mail to Mr Crosby. On occasion, Mr Crosby would greet him with drinks in hand on a hot summer day and they would chit chat. He used to play pranks on him also. One day he walked up to the driveway and found Mr Crosby laying on the ground in the yard. He thought he was dead and ran over in a panic to help him, yelling for help. Mr Crosby jumped up, scaring the heck out of dh's grandfather. There are other stories too.

Another one I love is Sunset Blvd. She is soooo creepy. My dh's fave is Les Miserables. He can sing every song on that CD without missing a beat.

Enjoying your TR GB . Hoping your asthma settles down and you are able to relax.

Hey, GB, I hope you're feeling better today. I have asthma, too, and it's no fun, that's for sure! This time of year usually brings several weeks of misery for the past two years, but so far, I'll knock on wood. We bought a real Christmas tree Sunday for the first time since I had my own apartment. I buried my nose in every tree at Lowe's and handled them all with no wheezing but we'll see once the tree moves from the garage into the house. At least the garage smells good!

I could tell you were on Albuterol even if you hadn't said so! :rotfl2: When I used to take it, my house would be so clean! My doctor put me on Maxair as needed about 10 years ago and it is great. No jitters, no racing heart. Now last year, nothing was working for a couple of days and the doctor gave me Symbicort--STAY FAR AWAY FROM THIS--I thought I was losing my mind. Racing heart, panic attacks, twitches, pains, chest burning. I literally thought I was dying for about 4 weeks until my dh said one night "do you think it might be the inhaler?" Well, lo and behold, one day after I stopped Symbicort, I felt better.

No, I'm not on anything now, just feeling chatty tonight!

Greetings fellow sufferer! Hope the tree works out okay. Sorry to hear about the adverse drug reaction. At least you figured out what it was! Tonight’s sound track is Beauty and Beast the Broadway Musical. Tracy and I saw it live in Minneapolis back in 2000 and LOVED it. (The night of the infamous Bush/Gore election to be exact.) For those of you reading the “Tween” postings, I created an “Into the Woods” channel on Pandora and it pulls in a LOT of Disney music. (Listening to “Home” now.) BUT beware…there was one seemingly random song of an EXTREMELY vulgar nature that I had give a thumbs down so I wouldn’t create that station unless you can monitor it a while. ANYWAY…back to the episode.

Previously on Biscuit’s Grand Adventure, breakfast bananas were absent, Ariels were orange, and the ladies ran out of steam. After a less than stellar breakfast at Restaurant Akershus, we returned to the room and got the girls down for a nap. I had thought about walking around the resort a bit and maybe hopping in the pool. However, by the time we got into the room, it looked like it was about to rain. Invoking the spirit of “when in Rome”, I decided that perhaps a little catnap would do me good. I didn’t bother to set an alarm as we had no ADR’s to worry about getting to. I was just about to drift off when I heard the rain pelting the window. Ahhhhhh……my favorite weather for hitting up dreamland.

I rode the purple stallion across a plain of golden angel hair pasta and was charging into battle with a giant man-eating summer sausage when an orangutan turned the airplane into the wind, and my parachute deployed. As I drifted slowly down, the pinball hit the right ramp and my bamboo plant needed to be watered. Fortunately I was wearing a cumber bun and saved the lives of four terriers and an aging duck.

At some point I woke up, heard rain, and went back to sleep. Just as I was good and settled into more random nonsense, a tiny hand shook me awake. “Daddy, can we go flying now?” It was Hailee and my description of Soarin had fascinated her for weeks. I checked the phone and saw that we had been napping for just over two hours. The great thing about a mid day nap at The World is that it makes it seem like you have somehow squeezed in an extra half day.

We were soon all up and about and once the girls were once again properly coated in sun screen, we headed back out for another round of fun and mayhem. The girls were in a MUCH better mood after their nap. In fact, I think we all were. Tracy and I agreed that the naps had been a stellar parental decision.

I forgot to mention that one of the things we had picked up that morning in Gear Works was a pressed coin collection album. We had been squashing currency since arriving and the girls thought it was really cool. (I of course participated solely for their enjoyment and would never get excited over watching a giant gear totally mangle a piece of metal into a glorious flattened oval disk BWAHAHAHAHAH….ahem) Anyway, they brought their coin book back to the parks for the afternoon. Actually they brought it as far as the bus stop, then handed it to Daddy to carry. Luckily I had the backpack. (Which by this time was beginning to rival Dora’s.) And since I already had the back pack open, it only made sense to take a photo or two.

We caught a bus and headed back to Epcot and soon arrived back at what was fast becoming my new favorite park.

I love this picture not for its technical merit (which is frankly lacking), but the faces of the girls which say it all.

There was still about an hour and a half left until the return time on our Fastpasses rolled around. We needed to make a stop at Mouse Gears to get an additional item for Tahli. You may recall me mentioning the Minnie Mouse Poly Pocket type doll Hailee got and Tahli wanted to get the one for Mulan.

I shot a photo or two along the way.

The more time I spent in Mouse Gear the more I loved this shop. Not sure what it is, but something about the place just makes it a fun spot to shop. (Did I just use fun and shop in the same sentence? GOOD HEAVENS I’ve been on the boards too long!)

Purchase in hand, it was time to plot our next move. Since we hadn’t really eaten too much that morning, it seemed logical to make the procurement of chow our primary objective. We had all enjoyed Sunshine Season Food Festival back on day two so we decided to head back that way. Future World was not crowded at all that afternoon. It was a nice change compared to some of the crowds we had seen that week. The atmosphere and ambience of this area truly set the stage for a magical evening.

It was still a quite warm outside and by the time we arrived, I was thankful for the blast of AC billowing out whenever the doors would open. We descended into the belly of the Land that we might cause some chicken to do the same. For some odd reason, I didn’t take a photo of our plates that night. But I actually do remember what we wound up eating. (I don’t remember what was on my list to pick up at Target tonight, but I remember my meal from six months ago. Go figure. )

We got the girls each the kids Mac and Cheese from the “Soup and Salad” station, while Tracy and I each got the rotisserie chicken with smashed taters and carrots from “The Grill” station. Tracy got Chocolate Mouse Cake and I again went with the Key Lime Pie. (Mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm)

This meal was much more relaxed than breakfast had been and we actually wound up sitting at the same table we had been at when we ate with my parents and Aunt Jana. I remember something being spilled, but can’t recall the circumstances. I’m pretty sure it was a drink, but we took it in stride (thanks to the nap) and soon all was well in the world again.

After we were all well filled and the power of the facilities were once again invoked it was time. Oh yes my friends it was a moment long anticipated. It was time for Soarin. I brought forth our Fastpasses from the handy dandy carrying slot in my wallet which had been charged with transporting these sacred slips of wonder; and with an air of triumph I offered them up for inspection to the two CMS’s who were diligently guarding the FP entrance.

This was a new grand adventure for everyone. I had a vague idea as to how the ride was setup and the way the queue worked and such, but to experience it first hand was something altogether different. The girls were certainly excited.

(Sony Cybershot DSC-S700, Auto Mode)

I have heard it mentioned before that speed is relative. If one is to define the word “Fast” it is necessary to have some sort of frame of reference. A bicycle is fast compared to walking. An Intel 486 was fast compared to a TRS 80. Recovery time for surgery is fast now compared to 1963. So just because the word fast is included in descriptor, it’s doesn’t always translate into one’s expectations.

I say all that to say this. Even with a Fastpass for Soarin, don’t expect to walk right into the place. We still had a good 25 minute wait to board after entering the fast pass line. This was of course better than the 90 minute wait posted for standby and by comparison, it was certainly fast. But of the Fastpass attractions of which we partook, this was the longest wait time encountered.

We waited here for some time.

Then waited in another corridor, then turned the corner and waited a bit longer. Finally, it was our turn to line up and we wound up in the middle section, back row. To me this was okay because it meant we were centered on the screen, and weren’t too high for the girls. Sometime I would love to be in the top row though. Our impression?

We LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOVED it.

The girls laughed and shrieked and clapped the whole time. Hailee did get a bit nervous a time or two though and never really wanted to go back while we were there. BUT, she still talks about it favorably and says wants to go again someday.

When the ride was through, they both clapped and were all grins. We collected our gear from the handy storage nets and headed back up to level two. (Or do they call it level one and refer to the lower level as the basement? Of course I think Soarin is actually a level lower than Sunshine Season, so would that make it a sub-basement or level 1 of 3? Anyway, it’s not important. Actually I guess none of this is really important , but I digress.)

We made our way out of the land back toward the entrance plaza. As we headed through Innoventions, I pulled out the much neglected video camera and shot a few more scenes. Our plan was simple. We were heading to Evening Extra Magic Hours at Disney’s Hollywood Studios. On the video (which I may get around to formatting for posting someday) the girls were amazed by the color changing lights in the palm trees surrounding Spaceship Earth.

Thus we bid farewell for the evening to Epcot, but this would not be our final visit of the trip. In fact, I’d be back here a couple of times. And both would be fantastic. But that’s getting ahead of myself.

It's raining right now and boy would I love a nap. You're so right about napping while it's raining. Your pictures are beyond words and yes the expression on the girls faces as they're getting on the bus speaks volumes. The chicken is my favorite at Sunshine Seasons. I missed out on our last trip but hopefully not next time. Soarin' is a family favorite. I love it when everyone claps at the end.

One the things I loved most about Soarin was that it was an attraction we ALL thought was great. That's just something you rarely see anymore.

Glad you all loved Soarin'! It is a wonderful ride.

[SIZE="3"]

The same thing happened to my mom & me in May...the FP line was so long, and we really weren't expecting it. I heard that one of the theaters wasn't operating, or something. In October, you could walk straight through the FP line.

Episode 72??!! It's all gone so "fast"!! :lmao:

Soarin' IS a great ride- especially cuz it goes RIGHT over the house I grew up in- in Hemet, CA.

Very judicial decision- that nap there. Good call! :thumbsup2 They do look so much happier; and I was glad to see there were no more grumpy episodes, such as those at breakfast.

Naps, especially at WDW, leave one feeling like you're supposed to after taking one--refreshed. I love naps at WDW, especially when it's hot and humid outside!
Glad you were able to get a 2 hour one in brother.

MouseGear! Nuff said.

Soarin! Don't you think the music makes the ride? It's AWESOME! in fact I'm playing it right now.

Sunshine Seasons. The desserts there--magnificent.

I LOVE the bus picture! What a perfect moment and expressions. It's a framer.

How in the world do you decide what to use for your Christmas card when you have so many fabulous shots?

I LOVE Soarin'

It was our first time (well for the boys and I, Jeff and the big kids hit it at DCA in '04), I'd heard about it for years, having been deprived of it in '01 at DCA thanks to an ex determined to keep me from having any fun whatsoever.

So I had 7 years of anticipation built up.

It delivered! Even it if took us until 10:55 on an EMH and waiting in line an hour without a FP (they were gone) to get on it, it was worth it!

How were you able to get that? I always feel lucky if I escape the bus with all my apendages in the correct spots. Thanks! It was a staged shot. Before I left, I had a list of shots I wanted to take. The girls arriving at each park was part of it, but we were always in a hurry and there was always a crowd wanting off the bus while another crowd wanted on. On this trip, there was only one other family on the bus with us and there was no one waiting at the stop when we pulled in. I went out the back door and had Tracy take the girls out the front. By the time they made it, I was ready to shoot. I took three pics, this one was the middle one and the only one where they were all looking my way.

Episode 72??!! It's all gone so "fast"!! :lmao: Almost at the 1 year mark since I began this narrative! Holy Cow, I AM longwinded.

Soarin! Don't you think the music makes the ride? It's AWESOME! in fact I'm playing it right now. Totally! Which again is one of the things that I love about The World. How many theme parks come with a soundtrack? I mean seriously I love me some Sea World, but I don’t sit and listen to the Sea Lion show when I’m not there. Or load up my itunes with “Sounds of Six Flags”.

Sunshine Seasons. The desserts there--magnificent.MmmmmmmHmmmmmm.

They keep it open until closing time. I can vouch for this, we made it into the TSM line (posted wait 25 minutes) at 10:58 and EMH was closing at 11....

We got out of rides at both DSM and Epcot after the parks were closed, kind of like leaving dinner after Illuminations is over, it's a little wierd! But cool at the same time.

Hey BE! Thanks for the well wishes! I hope to sleep better tonight. I hear you on the infomercials. Then to make matters worse you doze off and they all run together. Suddenly Sham Wow gets ripped abs with P90X and uses the ChopIt to shred a Snuggie and uses it as fodder for planting tomatoes in its Topsy Turvey hanging from the Sundownner Awning which can then be roasted on its Rotisserie Express.

The more time I spent in Mouse Gear the more I loved this shop. Not sure what it is, but something about the place just makes it a fun spot to shop. (Did I just use fun and shop in the same sentence? GOOD HEAVENS I’ve been on the boards too long!)

Great update GB! I looooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooove Soarin' too. I agree with Jordan - the music totally makes the ride. I really hope they DO NOT update the video footage like some people have predicted - because they usually change the soundtracks too when they do any kind of major upgrade to a ride. That would NOT be good!

So, you are an asthma geek too! I've been on daily meds for it since I was 15. Luckily those control it pretty well, so an albuterol inhaler will last me a year or so. The worst is when I get a bad flare up and have to go on steroids. It only happens every couple years anymore, so I always forget about the side effects. Its always three or four days into the steroids before I remember. Oh yeah, so that's why I'm so agitated and eaten two bags of oreos! Well, it makes a good excuse anyway;)

I’m turning into a tea snob. I can’t say I’m overly happy about it. At work, we have a cafeteria in our building which sells iced tea. It’s okay I guess. But I soon discovered the coffee machine in the break room has a hot water spout. Factor in the ice machine and the filtered water machine and even my feeble brain was able to figure out that I could save a considerable pile of cash by making my own brew. Spreading the icing on the proverbial cake is the massive pile of Sugar and Sweet N Low that they keep stocked. (I think it’s because they took away our retirement plan. I guess the figure they’ll let us load up on stuff that causes cancer and diabetes so we won’t need one for nearly as long.)

Anyway, a couple of months ago I was strolling through the BIG grocery store here and headed down the International aisle. I always find it fascinating to see what they have. I don’t know what most of the stuff is, but it’s fun to see anyway. (OH – Side Note – Good Eats had a special on Japanese Cuisine the other day and I found out they sell all the ingredients here for Miso soup. Going to have to try it as soon as I figure out what to serve along with it.)

So there I was strolling down the International Foods aisle, minding my own business, perfectly content to look, when I saw a sign advertising British tea for 50% off. (Typhoo to be exact.) I needed some more tea bags for work so I figured why not give it a shot? I brewed some up, sweetened the mix, iced it down (an act of horror and outrage to all Brits I’m sure) and tried a sip. It was different. I wasn’t sure if I liked it or not. But I kept brewing and sipping and brewing and sipping and now I find that I actually prefer the stuff to Lipton.

How can this be exactly? I grew up on Lipton. I love Lipton. It’s tradition. (Insert Fiddler on the Roof soundtrack here.) Yet somehow, I find the need to wet my whistle with Typhoo. Is it the end of the world? No. Is it even earth shattering? Not really. Does it bug me? Yeah. I think I’ll have some tea and ponder it a bit more.

I was just about to drift off when I heard the rain pelting the window. Ahhhhhh……my favorite weather for hitting up dreamland.

Oh my gosh... one of my most favoritest Disney experiences EVER! Napping during a FL rainstorm. :cloud9:

I rode the purple stallion across a plain of golden angel hair pasta and was charging into battle with a giant man-eating summer sausage when an orangutan turned the airplane into the wind, and my parachute deployed. As I drifted slowly down, the pinball hit the right ramp and my bamboo plant needed to be watered. Fortunately I was wearing a cumber bun and saved the lives of four terriers and an aging duck.
:confused3 How do you come up with this stuff?! Hilarious!

I forgot to mention that one of the things we had picked up that morning in Gear Works was a pressed coin collection album.
I'd like to do this for my DS on our next trip. How much does it cost to squash said coin? Do you just bring a big roll of coins with you? How does that work?

http://i375.photobucket.com/albums/oo193/greatbiscuit/WDW%202009/37030002.jpg
Perfect shot!:thumbsup2
(I don’t remember what was on my list to pick up at Target tonight, but I remember my meal from six months ago. Go figure. )
:rotfl: How funny!

This was a new grand adventure for everyone. I had a vague idea as to how the ride was setup and the way the queue worked and such, but to experience it first hand was something altogether different. The girls were certainly excited.
Wow! Your FIRST Soarin' Experience?! I'm so glad you loved it!
Even with a Fastpass for Soarin, don’t expect to walk right into the place. We still had a good 25 minute wait to board after entering the fast pass line.
My DH and I were ranking the lines at WDW on our last trip. This one ranks 2nd WORST (behind Toy Story Mania). We LOVE the ride, and think it's worth the wait... but we can't stand how you just stand there, not moving, for such large chunks of time. It's the nature of the ride, but still annoying! Maybe if they could add two more theaters:confused3

Finally, it was our turn to line up and we wound up in the middle section, back row. To me this was okay because it meant we were centered on the screen, and weren’t too high for the girls. Sometime I would love to be in the top row though.
We ALWAYS ask to wait one more round so that we can have the top center row. I refuse to ride Soarin' any other way now!! When you don't have feet dangling above you, or you don't see the edge of the screen, it makes for a much better ride!

Fun update! Ready for more!popcorn::

I could live the rest of my life drinking only coffee and sweet tea and be perfectly content! :cloud9: Never heard of Typhoo though, about as exotic as the stores in my town get is green tea and decaf! Lipton is really flat though, once you've tried something else. My current tea of choice is the raspberry lipton tea bags..I find that I add a LOT less sugar to that, which is good considering I go through a pitcher every couple days.

Is it sad that as soon as I saw the word Fiddler, I heard a full chorus and orchestra...TRADITIOOOON...TRADITION!

Love that movie!

As for tea...meh. I've tried it and I no likey...reminds me of grass...just don't ask how I know what grass tastes like.

Oh my gosh... one of my most favoritest Disney experiences EVER! Napping during a FL rainstorm. :cloud9: It's definitely one of those things I hope to repeat.

I'd like to do this for my DS on our next trip. How much does it cost to squash said coin? Do you just bring a big roll of coins with you? How does that work?It depends on the currency you squash. The penny machines were 51 cents. (The penny to be pressed plus 2 quarters.) The quarter press was $1.25 I believe. There are dime presses as well, but we never found any. Next time, I'll have to get the location list. I took a stack of pennies and quarters with me as I hoped the girls would enjoy them.

We ALWAYS ask to wait one more round so that we can have the top center row. I refuse to ride Soarin' any other way now!! When you don't have feet dangling above you, or you don't see the edge of the screen, it makes for a much better ride!Excellent idea!

I could live the rest of my life drinking only coffee and sweet tea and be perfectly content! :cloud9: Never heard of Typhoo though, about as exotic as the stores in my town get is green tea and decaf! Lipton is really flat though, once you've tried something else. My current tea of choice is the raspberry lipton tea bags..I find that I add a LOT less sugar to that, which is good considering I go through a pitcher every couple days.Haven't tried the flavored teas yet.

The ad for Typhoo in England was Yahooo Typhoo !!:rotfl2: and it is one of the popular ones I grew up drinking many a cup of Typhoo!!:thumbsup2Love it! Nothing like cheeky advertising to warm one's heart.

maybe you'll actually get to the point of considering going to the GF tea during your next trip.

Just think. You wont' have to pretend you are enjoying it. :lmao:Perish the Thought! I still only do iced tea so that's one strike. Plus my idea of "dressing up" is putting on a Polo shirt with my jeans.

you wouldnt have to worry about it if you drank ice water. Just sayin ....You make a valid point. I just can't do water. About the only way I drink is is with one of those crystal light pouches.

As for tea...meh. I've tried it and I no likey...reminds me of grass...just don't ask how I know what grass tastes like.:lmao::lmao:

Ooh, I think you may be on to something with the British tea. I just recently switched from coffee to tea in the morning (hot, not iced) and its starting to grow on me. I LOVE my coffee, with lots of coffeemate flavored creamer and sugar - but it really does a number on my tummy. Lets just say my mid-mornings are much more... peaceful... on tea. Now, iced tea - thats a different story. Every once in a while, I'll have one at a restaurant instead of soda, but definitely UNsweetened. We lived in Nashville for four years, and I never did get used to the southern tradition of sweet tea. Guess you gotta grow up on it. To me it tastes like soda that went flat :confused3

I follow the Mark Lowry theory of iced tea who once quipped "I like my tea so sweet, you can pour it on your pancakes if you run out of syrup." I swapped to Sweet N Low when I cut WAY down on my sugar intake and I'm almost used to it now.

Just another tidbit "squash" is Koolaid :rotfl2::lmao: The same is true in the south. I spent my first 3 years of life in Tennessee and drank iced tea in my bottle as a toddler. (I then spent 4 years in Alabama where I became a huge 'Bama fan. I'm probably the only guy in Texas who'll be shouting "Roll 'Tide!" during the championship game. BUT I've never been a UT fan. Now if Texas Tech was playing...well that'd be horse of a different color.)

I'll forgive you for the RollTide (maybe;)) but this reminded me of seeing dd's face when she was about two and we gave her a taste of sweet tea at Pizza Inn. Never seen a toddler grab on to a cup so fast!!! (Yeah, we didn't do that again; she didn't go to sleep until about 11 p.m. that night!) I think Splenda makes sweet tea taste just like it does with sugar, no Sweet N Low!

The year we were in Minnesotta happed to be record year for cold. I remember well the day one of the guys in the church talked me into going ice fishing. Driving a truck on a frozen lake in minus 30 wind chill to sit in a hut and stare at a hole is apparently quite a thrilling pasttime up that way. I swore if the Good Lord would get
my frozen derrier off that lake, I'd make sure to never put it there again.

(Two pink, two yellow, 1 blue to be specific.) BUT, we only have the pink stuff at work and although I've been meaning to pick up some of the other stuff, I don't always have the worlds best recollection when it comes to that sort of thing. :sad2: We do have Splenda at home and use it for cereal, oatmeal, coffee and what not. Oddly enough I rarely drink tea at home. In the evenings I'm home so late that it keeps me up. In the morning, I'm not in the mood for it.
