Just wanted to say that I am very sad we won't be able to participate in the new promotion! My b-day is at the end of March-we are going down for 4 days from the 19-22. B-day is 30th! DD b-day is July and DH is at the end of October. I work at my local High School, which makes it almost impossible to be there at any of those times. Even July is out because I work the summer program at the school. Bummer! We usually go in August, just before school starts and we have my DD "late" b-day and our Anniversary too! They are both a day apart in July. This will be anniversary #25 this year! Still hoping we can go in August before DD goes back to college. Sorry everyone-just venting! Another lousy weather day in Central MA! We were without power for 8 days just before Christmas, I was out of work for over three weeks w/o pay-now another one. To make it worse, my dad left Monday for FL to stay with my Aunt-how I wish I could have gone! ;)

I don't care for the "what will you celebrate" promotion going on this year either and hope they change it to something fun next year. We have APs so it doesn't matter to me either way, but there are SO many people who for one reason or another just can't make it to the parks on their birthdays, missing it by a day here or there or just don't have the option of going at that time of year.
Add to that the marketing for it back in 2008 that fooled so many into thinking it was going on at that time and you have a lot of less than happy experiences.
What they need is an UN-birthday celebration LOL.

I am right there with you. We are going September 6th thru the 16th and my birthday is the 27th. Unfortunately we can't go 11 days later due to my husband having plant manager meetings. I hope the Birthday promotion works for others better than for me....:)

I am sure there are reasons that they have their rules, but it doesn't work for us either. What is sad is that we are going to Disneyland ON our anniversary, but that doesn't count as anything. I wish we could register ANY celebration. I'd be happy to void my birth date from eligibility so that I could use our anniversary date. I know people would somehow maneuver around the rules and scam Disney. Just wish it was an option to pick a celebration other than a birthday. After all, the ads say there are MANY reasons to celebrate. Oh well - at least we get to go!:goodvibes

We are in the same situation. We are going in January and December this year, but our birthdays are in April, June and September-which are all times that don't work for us.
We will be getting APs, but to even take advantage of the gift card or "fun pass" that you get instead if you are an AP holder would be nice! But all well, are are just so excited that we get to go twice this year!

I can understand other's disappointment with the new promo as I am disappointed with it as well. I thought the Year of a Million Dreams promo was fantastic! I did decide to take DS#2 to WDW for a few days for his 7th birthday. Everything kind of fell into place to make it a really cheap trip for us plus he doesn't have to miss any school. If everything didn't fall in line like it did, we wouldn't be taking advantage of the Celeberations promo. Our other birthdays are in March. May and October. We will miss the May birthday by 2 weeks with our June trip :sad2:

Our family won't be taking advantage of the promotion either. In '08 we were down for 2 of our extended family's actual birthday, but this year things don't work out that way. We were a year too early!
Even for this year, we came home the day before my actual birthday. We had bought the tickets way before anything was announced, so it wouldn't have been worth it to change the return. Plus, and this is the real reason we didn't bother, we wanted to get our dogs out of the kennel on Saturday so we didn't have to spend a whole weekend without them.

I think that this is a great PR move on Disney's part. It sounds like they are giving away the world, but in reality who is going to go on a extra vacation to participate?

Our DGS's birthday is on December 19th, in fact, that's where we were when he was born, in '03!

We actually planned our trip so we could go on DD's bday! We knew we were going in Nov so we just did it the 1s week to celebrate her 10th bday with the mouse!
On a whole I agree not the greatest promo.

This will actually be my 3rd year to be with the mouse on my Birthday. We love to go during the food and wine. We do have ap's so I am going to get the gift card.
This promo doesn't bother me a bit. At least you know before hand what to expect. We spent over 25 days at WDW this past year and didn't get any dream passes, or anything special for that matter. Or should I say "extra" special. Just being there is enough for me. But it is nice to know that I will get a little something special for my birthday.:cheer2:

We went to MK today and I was disappointed that there were no "What Will You Celebrate" decorations...
On a positive note - we stopped to look at a CM's pin lanyard over by a cart outside of guest services. As we walked away, one of the CMs stopped us and told us to hold on. He handed us an "I'm Celebrating" button and he had written in "DVC Member". We couldn't figure out how he knew...LOL. He said he saw our member card in our clear lanyard pouch and that it was always something to celebrate. That was fun...silly, but fun.
Turns out that the cart was filled with all of the different celebration buttons that they now have available.

The one good thing about going when we are in March, is that I get to see Davey Jones! I have always been a huge Monkees fan!

Obviously I am in the minority here, but I do think this is a better promotion than a Year of a Milion Dreams from the point that anyonecan participate in it since it isn't random like YOMDs.
Granted you have to be at WDW on your birthday but if you are you will either get free admission or a $75 gift card (Not too shabby even if you are an AP holder). Most YOMD winners got items of far lesser value (lanyards, ears, fastpasses). Of course no one will win a free DVC Membership or a night in the castle.
Also, not to sound too much like Pete but with YOMD a lot of people were getting upset because they were "expecting" gifts from the Dream Team and upset when they didn't.
On a side note, I will be able to take advantage of this promotion since my birthday is the day before our cruise so we tacked on an extra day to our trip so we can visit a park.

I am going for my Birthday in April with my friend.
Since we are both AP holders, I won't need the free ticket. I don't think I'm interested in the Fast Passes either.
Can anyone tell me about the gift card? Are there restrictions associated with it. Example only certain merchandise, limit to one park. I do assume it would be limited to my birthday only.
Any comments are appreciated.
Thanks

LoveMickey,
My DSis just got the gift card on Jan. 6. She already had a park hopper. She pre-registered online to save time then brought her registration, drivers license and hopper ticket to the will call window at Epcot (you can go to any will call window--be prepared for some waiting). The card can be used anywhere on property but not in restaurants or for places that are not Disney owned (e.g. some of the stores in DTD). The card does NOT expire (this is a change from the original plan). One bug that may be worked out later: she used a part of the value at one store in DTD then went to another store in DTD to use the rest. The second purchase was more than the value remaining on the card and this messed up the card. It was a hassle to get it fixed. So, if your purchase is more than the value on the card THE CLERK MUST ENTER THE EXACT VALUE ON THE CARD, NOT JUST SWIPE THE CARD. Then you can pay for the rest of the purchase. I think the gift card is a great option. DSis bought gifts that she would otherwise have paid for out of pocket.

I am planning on being at WDW on my birthday. My birthday is December 22. I teach college and mostly travel either the middle of September or the middle of December. I just needed to adjust my December plans a little bit to go. My original plan was from the 10th to about the 20th. Now I'm planning on the 13th to the 23rd. I am going to get the gift card and use it for Christmas Presents (for me and family).
