We are staying at Port Orleans Riverside in May. We have also purchased the dining plan. I have read that there is a boat that runs between Downtown Disney and POR. Not sure how this works...does it run only for certain hours and at certain times? Could we take it for an 8 or 9 o'clock reservation at Raglan Road and then be able to take it back to the resort? Is there an additional cost to ride the boat?

Next set of questions....if you have to pick two of the three following restaurants for a family that includes mom, dad, and three daughters (ages 12, 11, and 8), which ones would you choose? Raglan Road....Sci-Fi Dine In Theater....or Whispering Canyon Cafe?
Please base answers on food quality, enjoyment level, and just best experiences. (I could also throw our Ohana breakfast as a choice in there too...I just need to eliminate one.)

All help appreciated....

The boat ride from Port Orleans to DTD is free. You should be able to take the boat over to DTD. Depending on how long you stay, you might need to take the bus back to DTD.

your resort and the boat launch itself should have the hours it is running.

Dpending on where your room is at POR, it may be easier to take the bus to DTD and the boat home. The last time we stayed there, we were far from the main area. We would hop the bus DTD, and then take the lovely ride back home.

The boat is very popular. At times there are waits, if you have a dinner ressie i would be inline 2 hours prior. It is about a 20-30 minute boat ride, and the boats go about every 30 minutes or so (tot he best of my recollection) the nice people on the transportation board may have the latest info though

for your second question - the sci fi is an experience. I don't know if i would suggest it for a party of 5 though, the cars seat 2 per row, someone is going to end up sitting alone :(

Whispering Canyon is neat. The WL is an experience in itself, the lobby is just amazing. The WCC food is pretty good and the restaurant is fun.

If you go to RR, don't go at st paddy's day or halfway to. not pleasant :sad2: but do get the bread pudding. even if you are not a super fan of it, it is hands down the best thing ever! I want some!

We (Me, DD18, DS12) loved Raglan Road! The food was great, service (Tony) was excellent as well as the entertainment :thumbsup2 The It Ain't Bleedin' Chowder is the one thing I miss from Disney dining

As someone else said, SciFi is difficult with the seating, but we always enjoyed our meals there. We've never dined at Raglan Road--it's on the list for a future trip. We ate at WCC this past September and saw little of the "antics" every one talked about, service was terrible and the food was overrated (the food was definitely better at Flame Tree Barbecue at Animal Kingdom). DH actually got sick on the chicken and/or ribs in the skillet (they were the only two items I didn't eat out of the skillet...I didn't like what I'd already eaten from the skillet and gave up on it).
