When we first looked at DVC, the minimum was 230 points. You still need that minimum if you want to do any trading.

Do you mean for trading out to II? I thought I read that someone recently got a trade for 55 points! I realise that was unusual, but I didn't think there was any minimum for trading laid down. What about banking and borrowing?
I hope there is no minimum laid down - if there is, my guide misled me!

When DVC lowered the minimum below 210, a disclaimer was added that "some aspects of the program may NOT be available at this level of membership". That was directed towards the exchange program, where some exchanges may not be available for a fewer number of points.
In actual practice, there are many opportunities for exchange for 180 points or less and MS does a great job of finding these for members. There are certainly exchanges which will require more points, but many can be found for fewer.
The disclaimer mentioned above certainly wasn't seen as a major obstacle and most members were never affected. It was made more as an advance warning to ward off later complaints, IMHO.
There is no minimum, as all exchanges are made on a case-by-case basis.
Enjoy!

I'm still wondering what the "other shoe" is on this. Doesn't make sense to me unless it is paired with something else like starting to sell a new resort or something. Of course, it could be trying to slow down the sale of BCV outside of existing member add ons, but I would think they would have not necessarily waited to do this. It will be interesting to see.

Good question Doctor P.
Why is DVC raising the entry level? I'm not sure about slowing initial sales, as DVC is sending out referal kits (at least I got one). Perhaps to slow the pesky 25 pt add-ons one month after closing.
DOC is right. There are many opportunities for families to utilize only 150 points, especially considering the low point requirements for studio units.
I just have to suppose that a profit motive is central here. Nothing wrong with that...............we live in a capitalist society;) ;) ;) ;) ;) . Bigger point packages require less overhead to sellout a property:cool:

Glad we bought when we did....though I guess a 175 minimum wouldn't have stopped us, it would have made it more difficult.
Any word on increasing the minimum add-on?

Just a quick point...
I believe you only need to have 230 points available for trading. You may bank and barrow to have the points available.
Isn't the rule actually "You need to trade a one-week block of points for the same sized room".
