Last year I found the DIS via iTunes and the Podcast. I was a lurker (read but do not post) for a time and then jumped in with both feet and have interacted with some great people. If you are new to the boards and are lurking please jump in and say hello so we can get to know you. Congrats on finding the DIS, you will sooooo enjoy it.
Don
PS: Come on, it is OK to reply and say hello
PSS: Really it is OK

I was one of these lurkers that you speak of. I started listening to the Podcast a while ago, and then started lurking, and recently started posting. I guess the reason i waited so long is because it seems like there are SO many people on here who allready know everyone, lots of well established relationships and inside jokes that i dont get. and when i finally start posting i make the mistake of telling everyone about the "secret fried chicken and waffles" and piss Kevin off !!!! just playin Kevin, i know you werent mad. Cakes and Pies, Cakes and Pies !!! i did make a KILLER homeade cheese cake with Caramel topping the other day that was SOOOOO good. Thanks for being so welcoming all !

No one got the jokes at first....cause there weren't any.
We created them together.
If you dont get something ....ask...someone will explain it.
You really have to just jump in with both feet.
And not talk about Chicken and Waffles.

Just watch out for Kevin, he gives a stellar review but he can sure carry a grudge :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:

Its crazy how many different little sub-cultures there are even within the Dis community. there are a TON of little groups on the community board, those crazy campers on the camping board, the podcast group ( my personal fave ;) ) its hard to keep up ! it feels like a 2nd job, and i just got started !

I love the podcast and have driven my family crazy by making them listen to my "new friends," John, Kevin, Pete, etc.
As you can see, I've only posted once (and only because I could answer a question about the Warner Bros. studio tour in Burbank). And that thread died immediately after I responded. Most of the time, though, I don't think I can add anything to the conversation.
I did meet Yellow Mickey Ponchos in the Grand Californian Hotel parking lot on Christmas Eve, and my husband said, "She seems nice. Maybe you should post on that site."

Soooo....I guess I'm not really a lurker...I don't post CONSISTENTLY...but occasionally...but I never really introduced myself either....
*ahem*
Hiiii I'm Cathie :wave2: and I'm addicted to Disney lol :D I live in Colorado and have been to Disneyland twice and Disneyworld for the very first time in September. I'm a big kid learning to be an adult and trying to find my way in the world. I work for Anthem blue cross blue shield from home, have a boyfriend of 6 years, and live with two crazy zany cats...
Ummm..
OH! And I'm a lover of BOTH pie and cake :)

Hi, former lurker here. (That sounds so dirty :) )
I love reading the boards even if I don't have a lot to say. But that's kind of my personality anyway. I usually hang back in a conversation until people know me better.
So my feet are in and I'm happy I found this place. I just wish Wednesday would come sooner. :woohoo:

i think we are almost all former lurkers here. It is hard to jump in and can seem intimidating, but just do it.
So I don't always know the inside jokes or you may feel left out- but you can create your own or new ones together with new friends. That's what we are here for. Everyone started somewhere. There are so many great people here that are so welcoming- so jump in! They don't bite- unless you have cake!
welcome!!!!!! :wizard:

I wish I could post more ... but the way the forums are, it's difficult to see many posts that interest me, unless I hunt them down inside each forum. Of course, the threads change after a few posts (usually turning into talks about food).
I just wish there were a way to search for NEW post threads - then I might find more topics I could add to.

I probably qualify as an almost lurker. I only post when I have something to add to the conversation or with a question I need answered. That's about 38 times in thew last 4 or 5 years. I just started listening to the Podcast and love it.

Okay, I'll bite.
I'm kind of a lurker. I've been trying to delurk as of late. As you can see by my post count, I've been a board member since 2004, but only have a little over 200 posts.
My name is Lauren, and I live in Dutchess County, NY with my DH, 2 dogs and a rabbit named Mitten. We just moved into our house in September and we're still getting settled, although we're mostly unpacked. DH and I will be celebrating our 2nd anniversary in May at Disney. We honeymooned there and I can't wait to go back! I've been a Disney nut since my first trip in 1987 - since then I spent most of my childhood convincing my parents we had to go back. I was successful a bunch of times, I'm happy to say.
Okay, I think I've rambled on for long enough. I just want to say that everyone on this board is so nice. :goodvibes

I'm an on again, off again lurker myself. This is also my second screen name as I can't seem to get into my first one anymore...odd as that is...
I'd post a lot more if I was near my computer during the day! I'd probably be one of those multiple thousand posters! I've been around the DIS since '04!

I am really trying not to be a lurker!!!!
Hi. My name is Judith, I am a nurse, mother of two boys, wife to a bigger boy and have become Disney obsessed since our trip in 2005 to celebrate my graduation from nursing school. I have just recently started listening to the podcasts - I can be technically challenged but I am trying to change that as well - and love them by the way - wish I could listen to a new one every day!!!! Any wooo - Hello all - I will try to be less shy around here.

Awww, you should have de-lurked earlier, and come to our Boston meet. It was very VERY low-key, and not at all scary!
You'll have to come to our next one.
Welcome, everyone!

like praise2him, new to the DISUnplugged podcast forum - I've been around the themeparks board for about 4 years. Even there, it's taken 4 or 5 years to get up to 400 posts.
Maybe it's that guy (Y) chromosome, or something, just don't "talk" that much. But, then there's my son and his 12,400 text messages he sent last month - I bet you I said more in my 400 posts on the DIS boards than he did in is 12,000 text messages!

Another lurker here. I listen to the podcast every week. We leave for Disney World on Sat. and with no podcast last week, I needed a Disney fix. I was playing some "other" podcast in the car and my 7 yr old DS said he liked that other one we listen to all the time better. Could I put it on instead. I have raised another DIS fan. :goodvibes

I'm also an almost-lurker. I post once in a while, but don't jump in on too many conversations. I'll try to change that!
Now - there's a lot of talk about cake and pie around here. Is there a requirement that I choose between them???? Cuz, I'm not sure I can...

Hello, All! My name is Sarah and I'm a lurker. I love the Dis and just recently started listening to the Podcasts. I adore flavored martinis, put salt on nearly everything I eat and, although I can't carry a tune, I sing to my son and my dog, Gigi, a 160-lb English Mastiff every day!
Glad to know you,

I sometimes listen at night when I'm having trouble sleeping and laugh so hard that I wake up my dh. Hola Amigos. My name is Leslie and I have been lurking a lot for the last few years. The Unplugged Podcast is my favorite little group to read but like others before me I get intimidated that everyone seems to know one another and I don't always get the inside jokes. I have posted here once or twice before but can be a little shy and don't want to say the wrong thing and come across as well, er, a lurker.
I have been married to my DH for 25 years and we have one beautiful 14 year old DD. We also have a beloved old dog named Misty. My first trip to Disney was with my parents and one of my sisters back in 1974. I have had several trips since then and every April my DH, DD, and I go down to Disney during school vacation. I feel bad for my DD's future DH because the expectation has now been set and he'd better be prepared to follow through! :rotfl:
Anyway, on the inside joke topic, I always see reference to cakes and pies. Can somebody explain the significance? I prefer pie over cake but really I am a cookie monster.

The secret to most of the "inside" jokes is that there really is not secret. Some of us just reference cake or pie for giggles and well it has developed a life of its own. None of us "got" it at first, but if you ask we will explain anything. Except Rex....no one can explain him....

I didn't participate much at first, but I forced myself into posting and participating and now...well...i'm one of Don's multiple wives. Still scratchin' my head on that one...oh...I remember...it was that danged chocolate martini! ;)
Don't worry if you don't get a joke. Often times we don't get it either...:lmao: :lmao: :lmao:
This is the only board I really post to on a daily basis now. I used to post over on the CB, but it scares me now. :scared1: I've gotten used to the comraderie here and just can't bring myself to go elsewhere anymore!

I'm kinda a lurker...i've posted a few replies. I'm still a Disney newbie. I've only been once. But it was enough to hook me! It is cool to see everyone replying to this and “UnLurking” (Is that a word?) Anyway feel free to jump in and if you are concerned with what may appear to be inside jokes, just ask. Everyone here has been really friendly when I ask what an abbreviation means, or the some other inside joke.
Let see if we can flush out a few more lurkers.

Hello all,
I guess I might as well come clean also. I don’t post often but I do read a lot and have been listening to the podcast for about six months now. My name is Kyle am a late 30’s father of three with a beautiful wife that thinks I’m a Disney nut (Is it bad when the kids tell me too turn off the darn Disney theme park soundtrack and put on some real music?). I met my wife while living in Japan and we have been married for 14 years now. We live half way between Ann Arbor and Detroit and would love to relocate to Florida someday.
My first trip to WDW wasn't memorable because I was only two but I would say my addiction began with my trip in 1992. A group of fourteen college and high school friends went down for a week and had an awesome time.
That’s about it…Nice to meet you all

I'm pretty much a lurker. I may have posted once. I just don't have much to add really. I came on board through the podcast as well. The most exciting thing to happen last year was having my voicemail on the podcast towards the end of the year. Let me correct that, we did have a lot of excitement (DH had cancer, tornado hit the house, DD left for college, job loss) but obviously not of the fun variety.
I have forced my family to listen and now they love it too.
OK I do have a question and am too lazy to try and find the thread.....what is podcast bingo. I've heard Kevin and others mention it on the podcast and was wondering about how it started and how it is played....
OH....Hello everyone!!

There's going to be over 300 dis cruisers on board and I know I haven't seen posts from that many :rotfl2: There's a handful of really active posters but there's obviously a lot that don't post much or at all, so you won't be alone. :goodvibes
I post occasionally, can count on my toes the number of "real" first names I know of posters, and didn't attend the MouseFest or any other Dis meet so I haven't met anyone in person yet. I'm really looking fwd to the cruise cuz it's going to be a fab time with all that Pete, John & the gang have planned.

Thanks, scarlett873 and klam_chowder! I think my new years resolution will be to post here and join the insanity!
I'm glad to hear there are other people going on the cruise who are not frequent posters. Now I'm really getting that cruise bug back! I signed up so long ago, I guess I was wavering. Now, if only I can convince my husband to go :sad2: Most likely it will be me alone with my kids. You guys are making me feel like the cruise will be fun no matter what!

Hi! I'm a lurker on the podcast board. I've read the DIS boards for a LONG time and used to log on before every trip to help with planning (but sometimes have to take a break because they make me want to go back when it's not always in the budget!).
My whole family loves the podcast. Even my 2 year old claps when he hears the theme music.
Back to packing. We head out tomorrow for marathon weekend!

Is Vicksburg out west a bit? I think I remember it being around Kalamazoo or Battle Creek. We have family in Holland but that’s a little north of you I believe.
