I've read that if you bring your own snorkle gear, you can/must get a lifejacket free of charge at Castaway Cay. Can I also get them for my young daughters who will not be snorkling?

Trust me, I won't take my eyes off of them for a second, but I still like the idea of lifejackets when they are in the water.

Just call me overprotective mom.

Life jackets / vests are available for everyone, and i believe they come in several sizes if i remember correctly.

They have life jackets at all the lifeguard stands. But the vests are better. They have all different sizes. You can get the vests at the building where they have the snorckeling gear. They are free.
I forget the name of the building but it's on the family beach. (the end of the family beach closest to the ship. not the far end of the family beach). Those blue floating mats and tubes are good too!
Just beware of the tubes blowing away. I saw many tubes blow away across the lagoon if it's windy. They might give you a new one if that happens but I'm not sure. You might have to rent another one if that happens.

There is also a member of the cruise staff who stands at end of the beach (in front of where the snorkeling area starts) who also has a supply of vests that he/she will hand out. They were stationed there all day on our 2/23/02 cruise.

Although I was not snorkeling, and am certainly NOT a child -- I still used an inflatable vest even for myself. It was nice to be able to just float around in the water and relax --- without having to rent a mat or tube for the short time I was going to be in the water.
