I'm delighted to be sailing with my then-will-be-just-turned 7 y.o. and DH on this cruise... our first with Disney. Grandparents joining us (they are REALLY brave!) in their own cabin. I'm "wonder"-ing if we're up for allllll those children... and what the weather will be like in the Bahamas in November... but we're game for 4 days. Who knows, it could start something...

I signed up for the roll call on Cruise Critic, but hoping the vibrancy of this community gets us stoked for the trip.

Looking forward to seeing who else joins us in the coming months....

...and fish extenders...

Welcome aboard MaggieAtSea!!! Glad to hear that you will be joining us. I think that you will definitely enjoy the Disney Cruise Line! :)

We went on a Disney Cruise back in November of 2007 and the weather was fine. We were in shorts and t-shirts the whole time. We didn't get in the water at Castaway Cay because my wife was pregnant at the time, but everyone else was! :)

If you have any specific questions, please let us know!

Well...I am sad to say that I had to cancel our Thanksgiving Cruise!! :( Due to unforeseen financial circumstances, we had to make the tough decision to cancel. It really sucks, but we know it is the right decision. Don't you just love it when you receive a back tax bill on your property taxes that you didn't know you were getting!!! :( We hope everyone has a wonderful trip and we look forward to hearing how the cruise was!

Hi,

My husband and 12 year old son are booked for this cruise. Still debating if son should go to teen area for the child area at 12?

We booked using our voucher, so have a undetermined cabin in category 9.

Have only sailed on Carnival (military veteran discount is great!) but did go to their private island and loved it. Looking forward to Castaway Cay.

Glad to be aboard.

This is our first DCL cruise, our second cruse ever and son's first. We are very excited.

Still confused about when to book Palo? As I understand it, on 4 night you will repeat restaurant at least once. Would like to book on a repeat night as not miss all the different venues.

So looking forward to meeting all the people, we had a blast last time. Cruisers are so friendly.

Wondering if a day at Atlantis is worth cost? We did a speed boat/ blackbeard island thing last time and dh was bored after a few hours of being stuck on the little island with the sand fleas. (itchy for days)

Hoping son will make freinds easy since he is going solo after his freind bailed on him, the joys of being the only child.

Looking forward to meeting everyone:rotfl:

I spent Sunday researching FE, I emailed a couple of people that sells them via EBAY and private web sites, finally I decided for this lady, she has samples posted on EBAY store and has been super cooperative answering my multiple requests. It's so worth it to get a FE I was sorry I didn't know about them the first time, because they add so much fun to the whole experience! if you do a general online search for "custom fish extenders" you'll get to her EBAY store, Gradysmommy is her screen name, if you have not luck this way e-mail me and I'll get you her e-mail address. Hope this can help guys!

Hello Alady89... my son, he will be one month past his 7 y.o. birthday and is an only as well, will be on his second cruise. How old is yours? It would be great to give our only's a running start if their ages are in sync.
A frequent cruiser, I know only too well that while it feels far away on one hand, November 25th will be here before you know it!!

Hi Maggieatsea,

Unfortunately, our son will be 12. Otherwise it would be very cool to allow them to hook up for trip. Which there lies my issue, he doesn't want to go to kids club but the teen club. However, he will only be 12 on cruise, still 4 months away from birthday and DCL says must be in one month of birthday. However he will be in junior high. Most cruise lines are groupingng the 12-14 year olds together but not Disney.

I don't know what to to do? Any suggestions?

I feel your pain, my DS is 16 and at the time of the trip he'll be fifteen days away from his 17 birthday, and very concern about the whole teen club idea, I guess waiting until you are a officially a teen is part of the magic, much rather have a different group of 12 - 14 and then 15 - 18, there is a huge personality difference between 13 and 17... but yet rest assure Disney do things so right that by the time your DS is in the ship he'll forget about the whole issue, that is what I am hoping for my DS too!!! blessings

Is everyone getting excited about planning their cruise????

It looks like we have a few people on the DIS going on this trip. Maybe more will join us before the big day. I have updated the roll call list on page one.

This is my first Disney cruise (I've cruise to Mexico and Hawaii before). This will also be the first cruise for my kids.

I see that there are several people who have cruised on Disney before... and it looks like we even have some that have been on this Thinksgiving time cruise before!!! I hope they will become our experts and help us newby DClers.

When we are in Nassau we were planning on doing the Sea Lion encounter on Blue Lagoon Island. I received our planning pack form Disney the other day and it was not listed. I didn't think much of it, just thought that maybe Disney only listed some of the excursions. Last night when I was reading some excursion reviews someone posted that Blue Lagoon Island was closed on Monday and Thursday. And of course we are going to be there on Thursday! :(

Now Im not sure what we should do. I'm afraid that might daughter will have a hard time getting goggles to fit so I don't think snorkling will be an option. I have thought about buying her own goggles but not sure about that. The Atlantis stuff sounds neat but for the 4 of us it will be over $600. I'm not sure it will be worth that. I know we can do cheaper stuff there but I'm afraid if my kids see the water slides they will bbe disappointed we didnt do that part.

Shopping and city tours aren't our thing.

So.... What is everyone doing??

Hi! I haven't been on a Cruise over Thanksgiving, but I have been to the Bahamas at that time. It was definitely warm enough to swim during the day, but it got quite chilly in the evening (so bring a sweater).

We have a 2.5 year old, so we are somewhat limited in our choice of excursions. We went to Ardastra Gardens on our Honeymoon and LOVED it, so we will either do that or we will go to the aquarium at Atlantis.

Hey, Welcome to our group! This is my first Disney cruise too. It is also the first cruise ever for my kids. They are very excited. I think my daughter is expecting it to be like The Suite Life cruise ship.

I'm not sure what to expect from the kids program. Most people say it is great and their kids love it. My kids have looked at a few of the navigators that are posted and have seen several things they think sound neat. They both want to play dodge ball. I have heard it is best for the kids to be there during the 'get to know everyone' session. That way they are in with the 'click' and know most of the kids when they go in at other times. We are going to bbe there for that session. I really don't think on port days we will have much time to spend in the kids program so really the only day it will be used much will probably be the sea day. Or, I guess after dinner on port days. Actually, We are doing the 4 day instead of a 7 day cruise because we are not sure if the kids will like being on the ship. We are doing 3 days at Disney before, instead.

Welcome Aboard!!!!!

I have been so worried about the Nassua port. I wanted to do Atlantas but the cost was so much. I was not sure about snorkeling with my kids, shopping is not our thing and so on....

Anyways, I had a friend that just got back from a carnival cruise and went to Atlantas. They loved it. There kids said it was the highlight of there 7 day cruise. They were so excited about it that my kids really want to go.:confused3 Well, $160 x 4 people just seems like so much money. My friend said they did the comfort Suites deal and it worked fine. So this morning I researched what people on the Dis had to say. Most were in favor of doing Atlantas through the Comfort Suites. So............ I booked us a room!:yay: It looks like the room and the taxi both ways will cost us less than $300 for the 4 of us. That is half the price of the Ship excursion Or $75 per person. I don't think that price is too bad. :thumbsup2

Now we can't book our Castaway Cay excursion until sometime in September. :headache: We want to do the Kayak and hike so I'm hoping it won't fill up before we can book.

What is everyone else planning??:cheer2:

As far as nassau goes. DH and I plan to go to Atlantis, but just for the beach or maybe just the aquarium tour then wander the resort for a little while, go to the bar and casino. He wasn't interested in the pool or waterpark. I will be happy with just visiting the resort. DH also wants to just walk around the city for a bit and do some shopping.

At Castaway Cay we plan to do the Jet Ski tour and maybe the sting rays. Other than that we will just roam around and relax...maybe ride a bike. Dh will probably want to snorkle so we will probably do the getaway package thing where you get the bike, snorkle stuff and the sting rays.

I don't want to plan too much because we really want to relax and absorb as much as we can rather than being on a schedule.

HI, just checking in again. It sounds like everyone is starting to get excited. We are planning to do the Ardasta Gardens tour in Nassau and will just play it by ear in Castaway Cay, probably rent bicycles. Since we are Floridians, it is usually too cool for us to get in the water at that time of year although I don't think people from the North find it cold at all. I would recommend for anyone who doesn't sign up for a tour the Pirate Museum in Nassau. It is walking distance from the ship and has lots of interesting exhibits. When my son was younger and traveled with us, he loved it.

Not sure about Nassau. We might not get off the ship. Maybe we'll schedule a massage for that day.

Does anyone have any idea what Thanksgiving dinner is like? We saw they had Lobster one year. I am not much of a Turkey eater. We will have a DS who will turn 8 the week before we sail if anyone is looking for play buddies. As previously mentioned we are in 7501 and Grandparents 7503.:beach::beach:

So happy to report that this past week we took a day trip to the Magic Kingdom while we were in Florida and DS -- who up to that point was rather reticent around costume characters -- gave Pluto a great BIG hug. He was really proud of conquering his fear (so were we) and so he said with a big smile on the monorail as we left the MK, "I'm going to be really good in school so that I can meet more characters on a Disney Cruise at Thanksgiving!"

Woo-hoo is right! :cheer2:

I'm a first time Disney cruiser so I can't book excursions until Sept 11. If someone who can book already has a few extra minutes would you look and tell me what times the "nature walk and Kayak" excursion on CC is offered and the "deep sea fishing" on CC. We are trying to decide between the two excursions and times might be the deciding factor.

Thanks!

Thanks for the welcome! Since this was such a surprise trip for us I'm not planning on doing much with excursions. I'm not a fan of Nassau and prefer to stay on the ship and relax with the semi-empty mickey pool as my DD goes down the slide over and over again. popcorn::

When I find it, I'll see if I can post a picture of the FE I made for my last trip. It has a Mickey theme. I'm just so excited that I'll get to use it again.

We are also not planning on going to Palo this cruise. My DH and I dined there last May and loved it, but since this is a family cruise I know my Mom wants all of us together each night. And since she is paying, what Momma wants, Momma gets ;).

WELCOME! :cheer2: I just did my first Disney cruise this May -- a 7-night Magic one. So, if you have some questions I might be able to answer them. I have never gotten a room at the Comfort Inn, but you should be able to find the answer on cruisecritic.com. They have a great section on ports of call and I remember seeing that question asked a lot.

Shari -- I have second seeting dining and would love our party of 7 to have first seeting. It's just better with a 4 year old, but I think I can make the second seeting work -- we'll just have to plan some extra snacks into our day. Chelsea, my DD, will probably call dinner her second dinner of the night. She's a night owl, so I hope she'll be fine. I know I can put her in the kids club, but she always eats with us on cruises (unless we are doing the adults only restaurants) and I know Grandma will want her there with us. She is outgrowing her nap-time, but I think some nap-time might be in order on the cruise to help her get through.

From what I remember the early shows were around 6 o'clock. I'm sure someone has some Navigators posted on these boards somewhere.

Well..... as of 2 hours ago we are 75 days out... so.... is everyone booked????

I have dial up connection and it is taking forever to get throught the disney site!

Now... I have a few questions I should of asked before this evening:
1) What time is the sail away party? I booked a pedicure for the first afternoon and I'm afraid it will be during the sail away party.

2)I know our schedule is different than the typical 4 day cruise in that our sea day and castaway cay are switched. Will pirate day be Castaway cay night still or will it be on the sea day?

:rotfl:I waited forever to book all this stuff and I think I just made a mess of everything! One good thing is that I did get the kayak excursion at CC.:cool1:

So in processing with my husband the night before the midnight "opening" for booking dining and excursions on Disney Cruises Website we decided that we would sign up for any excursions for this quick 4-day. That's not like us on a cruise, but we are conerned the water will just be too cold to enjoy much there. We did sign up for Paolo one evening... our son can dine with the grandparents without us -- they'll all eat each other up while we eat up some good food... but if that turns out to be Pirate night, we may cancel the reservation as he's soooo excited about that event! As opposed to a week long Celebrity sailing, this is feeling less of a time for pampering and indulgence and more a time for celebrating with our son. But I'm sure I'll stick some indulgence in there somewhere!!

I'm excited about our growing band of cruisers. I'd be happy to volunteer to start up the list for fish-extender-participators in another week or so.

We did Palo dinner in our fiorst cruise and is really not worth to miss dinner and any of the rotation restaurant because food is really good in all of them and there is plenty of choices, but we love the Palo brunch so, we skip breakfast and book the 10:00 am brunch. If you let the people from the kid's club know they feed the children breakfast or you can co with them to the buffet and then to the brunch at Palo, just please...do not eat at the buffet! that say, other than the day we board the ship we don't do the buffet, breakfast is always at Lumiere (Triton) and is fantastic!

Welcome Diana1!!! the same reason about water temperature is the one keeping us away from booking Atlantis, to be honest I haven't look into excursions but in our other DC we had book with the tour operators and no with Disney, and have done very well $$. I suggested everyone to book brunch at Palo and skip breakfast instead of the dinner, so you have the Palo experinece and won't miss dinner.

The FE sounds like alot of fun. I am not sure on the Meet & Greet, we will be checking the kids into the clubs to get them aquanted and comfortable. We are hoping to be at port early so we can get aboard ship early and check things out. (First time cruise with kids)

Cabin #: TBD, Catagory 9 on deck 2, but have requested an upgrade to the Walt Suite.

We don't have our cabin # assigned yet. When do they usually begin assigning them?

For simple questions click on the "post Reply" area found on the left side of the screen at the top and bottom of each page.

Use the three message options found inside each post box if you want to have the original posting quoted in your new post.

I used a post reply for this note.

Here is a link for a list of abbreviations commonly used on the discussion boards. The link is denied due to not enough posts to date. The long way. At the top of this page click on DIS home (in blue menu bar), then type abbreviations into the search box (top right). The first suggestion gives a detailed list.

I hope this helps

Hey fellow Turkey Day sailers...We decided to book Palo on Day 2 (nassau) because that was really all that was available. If we decided that we don't want to dine there and want to stick with our "regular" seating, can we cancel?

My concern is that it is Thanksgiving and DH wanted to take it easy that day and not have to "get all dressed up" as he says it. I really don't know if we should just bypass Palo for this cruise or go for it.

Oh and what time does the Pirate party start?

**Edit**
Sorry for all the repeat posts, by browser kept freezing and posting my replies without be being able to fininsh them.

We will be traveling with my daughter and her family on the Thanksgiving Cruise. It will be my Grandson's 8th birthday BUT it will also be my husband and my 45th Wedding anniversary ! We actually cruised to Nassua on our honeymoon in 1964:cool1: Is it possible to arrange for special photos, wine at dinner or something to make mark the event? I plan to decorate our door with a current photo and our wedding photo and maybe some kind of special Mickey and Minnie FE if I can fiqure one out. Suggestions are most welcome

This will be our second Thanksgiving Disney cruise (we went in 2005). LOVED IT!

We will have another family joining us this year...I'll pull together our info and get it to you...I just recently started reading on the FFE...my girls (ages 7 and 9) would LOVE that!

We've booked the dolphin swim...hopefully we won't freeze! Just could not pass that up....maybe I need to look into wet suits!! Ha! ha! In 2005 we did the Castaway Cay kayak adventure (the adults)...it was alot of fun.

Guess I need to start figuring out these fish extenders and making some Operation Gobble Gobble magnets...!

We are going through and trying to plan out our gift exchange ideas and are wondering if the FE's and door magnets are taken down on the 4th night or remain up untill the morning?

On our last cruise (non disney and too many years ago) we had to have our luggage outside the state room before retiring for the last night. This way it can be collected over night taken to customs as soon as the ship docks.

Thanks

You are truly bless with talent! this FE looks fantastic, can you tell me how to do the Mickey heads? Elcka

Thanks for the compliment, but I did the design, not the sewing. I don't sew -- at all  The mickey heads on the sides were small styrofoam balls painted black with small wooden discs inserted in the styrofoam and painted black as well. They held up alright, but didn't make the return trip in the luggage.

You can always cancel Palo, that's not a problem. Getting the reservation is the hard part. From what I remember last May the Pirate party began after late seating was finished in the dining room. Maybe 10pm or so?

Congrats on the anniversary! That's wonderful! There are photos taken everynight before and/or after dinner if you choose. You are under no obligation to buy so you can pose away! I love taking lots of pictures and then choosing at the end of the cruise which ones I want. You can order wine or champagne at dinner from your assitant server everynight. If you don't finish the bottle they will cork it and store it and it will be on your table the next evening for you to enjoy.

If you wanted something extra special you could order a special basket through Shirley at The Perfect Gift for your DH for the anniversary and for your Grandson's Birthday. I've ordered from her before and her stuff is great. You can even custom order what you want. I'll be ordering another basket from her for this cruise as a big "thank you" to my Mom.

Yes, FE's and magnents should be taken down the night before when you pack if you want to put them in your luggage. I guess if you wanted to put them in your carry-on's you could wait until the morning to take them down. I took mine down the last night before we had to set out the luggage so I could just pack them away and not worry about it that morning.

Here's the website: http://www.theperfectgift.cc/index.html

Here's a thread that shows different baskets that Shirley has put together. She can really customize anything you want.
http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=1723220

You can also go through Disney itself and send something through the cruise (but this is a much more expensive option):

HI Lucas! We're just up the road from Boca, in West Palm Beach. The last Thanksgiving cruise we did on Disney was four years ago. The dining room offered a full traditional turkey dinner, otherwise, my main memory was of a beautiful day at Castaway Cay. The water was a little cool for us, but it was a beautiful sunny day and we so enjoyed relaxing at the adult beach. Like last time, I have booked myself for an outdoor massage in one of the cabanas.

I have been trying to talk DH into this cruise all year and finally talked him into it - I am booking first thing in the morning! (although I suppose it is possible this cruise is full......:confused3......when I called today for info they would not confirm availabitlity until I was ready to book)

Anyhow, there are 3 of us; me, DH and our 7 1/2 yo DS. ( I was excited to see there are a couple 7-8 year old boys mentioned in this thread!!!) It is our 1st Disney cruise, although we are DVCers.

I'll post specifics when they are confirmed. gobble~gobble~gobble!

A frequent cruiser, I know only too well that while it feels far away on one hand, November 25th will be here before you know it!!

Our 7 y.o. DS will be an only, too. Hopefully they will become good buddies on this cruise!

I note the age for the next level of kids club starts at 8.........he will be 8 in January, apprioximately 6 weeks after the sailing............I sure do hope he is not turned off by the younger ones grouped in his age bracket of 3-7 year olds.

Hello Everyone:
See what happens when you move? Sorry it took MUCH longer to generate this first draft of our list of participants, but my family did move and between boxes, utilities, and all sorts of other issues, this had to take a back burner. But I finally got to it and want to share it with you.

Are you not on it but want to be? Did I miss you? Don't miss out on the fe and meet & greet fun!
Are you on but want to be off it? While we hope our ranks will grow and grow (there's nothing like a happy collective!), your plans may have changed.
Do you want to make any other corrections/additions/deletions? For example, I don't have my cabin number with me right now, so I'll add that to my family's section of the spreadsheet a little later.

Please look over the document at the link below. If you have trouble navigating it or making the change yourself, just email me or throw your request up here on the board and I'll be happy to take care of it myself. I'm back to checking this space and my pm account here regularly.

Here's what I'll do:
1) I'll maintain our list until 1 week before sail date. No additions to the FE's can be made after November 18th. Of course, the more the merrier for the meet and greet so if you find this board after the 18th, please still come to that.
2) I'll bring to the meet and greet printed nametags for those attending whose first names are known to me and are on the spreadsheet. I'll also bring blank ones for folks I missed. Bring your children to make a stop at the M&G as it would be especially good for them to know fellow cruisers.
3) I'll also bring multiple copies of our final post-11/18 list so that everyone has the latest cabin info for those doing the FE.

Here's what I need someone else to do:
1) Select the place where we will meet at 3pm on the 25th. While my husband, son and I have cruised several times before, we've never done Disney. I do not know the ship well enough to select a place to meet. Someone needs to grab that bull and publish here on the board the location of the meet & greet a few times in the coming weeks.
2) Let me know if I'm forgetting something. Again, this is our first Disney so, hence, our first FE and Disney Meet & Greet... if I'm missing a crucial detail, just throw it out here and I'll be on it!

Here's the link to the list:

http://spreadsheets.google.com/ccc?key=0AkEQVMPjpHUadFpfVmhfVUhFWWV0emhBel9LaENBW mc&hl=en

And don't forget I can edit it for you if it is being funky for you!

We're excited that we're closing in on the much-anticipated trip. I'm also excited that there seem to be a fair number of us on the board with children of the same age... sailing with no children... etc... so the cohorts and opportunities for chat and fun will be excellent.

Now, for my next, probably insane goal... Can I reaaaaalllly pack the three of us in 3 roll-aboards and eliminate checked luggage? Hmm...

Gobble, Gobble... Maggie

Thanks Maggie -- it looks great! Are all of the cruisers listed on the spreadsheet participating in the FE's? If so, this should be an easy one for me considering my last cruise I had over 30 FE's to get ready and do. It was crazy! I went home with almost an entire carry-on full of FE's. My DD loved it though!

Hope your move went well. I'm hoping that my last move 3 years ago was my last one for a very, very, very long time.

And the meet and greet on my last DCL cruise was in the lounge area inside. I'll have to look at the deck plans for the Wonder and figure out what it is called. I'll get back to everyone on that since that location was a pretty good and easy one for a meet.

Thanks for doing the list! Especially with moving, it's nice you took the time for this! Could we add the children's ages? I think that would be helpful for the gift selection. And, in terms of meeting place, totally agree Promenade Lounge should work great for this size group!

Jennifer (Mom)
Mike (Dad)
Mallory (DD, Age 2.5)
We are in stateroom 6624.

We will definitely do FE's, but not sure yet about the meet and greet--depends on the timing! Thanks for organizing!

Jennifer

Thanks Maggie -- it looks great! Are all of the cruisers listed on the spreadsheet participating in the FE's? If so, this should be an easy one for me considering my last cruise I had over 30 FE's to get ready and do. It was crazy! I went home with almost an entire carry-on full of FE's. My DD loved it though!

Kim

I'm on the spreadsheet for the Meet & Greet but we aren't participating in the FEs. The adult/boy/girl column is for the FE's only.

Promenade Lounge on deck 3. That's it. Just looked it up.

How about that location for our 3pm meet and greet?

Kim

Sounds good to me!

I'll check on the collaboration piece and get back to folks about that once I look into it... that is essential for you to be able to edit. In the meantime, I'm happy to do so for you. It is a work in progress, still at this stage.

To be clear, the spreadsheet is a dual purpose one... the column with the rsvps for the meet & greet is there. Those individuals with a "yup" there said they would be interested in that. If folks have numbers indicated in the adult and or child columns, that is for FE participation. There are people just participating in FE and there are people just going to the meet & greet... and there are people doing both. The column count tells you what's what.

I will go in this weekend and make edits, additions and add ages of children if known to me by then (many put them in their earlier info, so that's easy for me to pull). I'll throw word up here when it is updated.

Be well, Maggie

I've been searching all over the posts and cannot find the answers to a couple questions - can anyone here help?
1.) I am SO looking forward to stumbling out of bed in the morning and enjoing a coffee on our verandah. Are there coffee pots in the staterooms? If not, where is the closest place to get coffee? Is there any "premium" coffee or cappacinos on board?
2.) People have said that you can carry on wine/liquor but that you may have to pay a "corking fee" if you bring the bottle with you to dinner. Others have said they brought beer and/or bottled water on board......has anyone brought beverages on board? Are there (mini) fridge's in the staterooms to keep stuff cold? Is there a corkscrew in the room?

Thanks!

1. There are no coffee makers in the cabins, but you can pre-order coffee through room service the night before or just order it when you wake up. There will be a breakfast order form that you can fill out and leave. There is also the Common Grounds on deck 9 in the adults only area where you can get a premium coffee or latte or such. There is an extra charge for the premium coffee drinks from Common Grounds, though. Just be aware of that. There is no extra charge for room service other than the tip you give to the server at the door.

2. Yes, I have brought beverages onboard before. Disney allows for this in their policy unlike other cruise lines. You cannot pack the beverage in your luggage, it must be carried on board in your carry-on and must fit through the x-ray machine. Some people bring soft-sided coolers onboard to carry the beverage of choice. If you bring an unopened bottle of wine to dinner you may be subject to a corkage fee. Although I've heard just like other cruise lines it depends on your server.

There is a small cooler/fridge in each stateroom. It doesn't get very cold but your cabin steward can always get you ice if you wish to quickly cool a drink down. The cooler helps to keep things cool, but not really cold like a real fridge.

If you need a corkscrew, you can always ask your cabin steward or room service to bring you one.

I've also bought beer, wine and bottled water at ports and brought them back on board no problem on my last DCL cruise. DCL will not confiscate or make you go to the surrender your bottle line as some other ships do.

Hope that helps!

Just got our cabin assignment. Cat 11 on deck 5.

Deck 5 is a good location. Congrats on having a cabin!

WooHoo!!! I have finally gotten the roll call updated! It looks like we are going to have a great group going!

I can't wait.

I am starting to get nervious about the water. We have the Comfort Suites booked to do Atlantis. Then we have the Kayak/nature walk booked on Castaway Cay in the morning. I went ahead and booked the deep sea fishing in the afternoon. It said we could cancel up tp 3 days before. Not sure what we will end up doing.

Hi

How were you able to book comfort suites to do Atlantis? When I tried, it kept asking for 2 night minimum due to holiday? We would love to do this as well, the cost per person through DCL is just so high!

Thanks so much for any info.

Here's the link to the most up-to-date list of folks participating in the fish extender gift exchange and those wanting to meet up on the day we set sail so that we may even see more friendly faces while we're out and about on our 4 day Thanksgiving Cruise.

Don't miss the fun! You can pm me, put your info here on the board:
Screen Name
Cabin # (needed if you are participating in FE)
Guests (first names only)
Age of any children participating in the FE (so gifts are appropriate for them)
Yes or NO for 3pm Meet & Greet in Promenade Lounge on Deck 3

OR edit directly the spreadsheet (I believe I have corrected the permissions so others can edit... but I wouldn't be able to tell for sure).

It makes no sense to worry about things beyond one's control... especially things still a month and a few days out...

BUT

It was a damp, rainy, blustery weekend in the northeast and my thoughts started to turn towards the Bahamas... which aren't that far south... which can be cool come end of November... and I said a quick prayer for sunny, warm skies and warm, lovely water come November 25th. My son will be busy being a pirate and dancing with Goofy to notice, but I would sure like some warm weather to bake my bones a wee bit!

Is there some sort of weather dance we should be doing? Or is it best to not speak of it again?:rotfl:

It's Monday and I'm already plannign on buying magnetic paper this weekend to start prepping door magnets for the cruise!

And don't worry about the weather. It'll be fine -- it'll also seem nice and warm coming from the Northeast down to FL!

Maggie-thanks for getting the spreadsheet together. I was able to go on and update my info!

With regard to the FE's....what normally happens? Is there a particular day you deliver you FE's? Or do you do something each day? Is it a "bag" of things all at once?

I've never done one before, and found some great threads, but many of the pictures I saw were the accumulation of items they received...

Just wanting a little guidance if anyone has...I know someone can do as much or as little as they want...but just wondering what some others have experienced on previous cruises!

Ashley:

I think the idea is that you don't give something every day... but that at some point during the cruise you drop your chosen fe giftie in the participating folks' fe. Some do them right away, some at other points during the sailing. That way people can anticipate and be "surprised" by something during the trip...

If I don't have that right, someone else step in. This is my first sailing on Disney, afterall... not practiced in the Disney traditions just yet!

My advice on the FE gifts is to not worry about it too much and don't go overboard with it. On my last DCL cruise I received so many FE gifts that I could fill an entire carry-on bag. It was a 7 day cruise though. Most people did one FE gift for the adults in the cabin and an FE gift each for the kids. Some people did more than one FE gift for each of the kids which I thought was generous, but going overboard a bit. I haven't decided what I'm going to do, but since this is still a pretty small group I will probably do what I did last time -- one FE gift per cabin for the adults and one FE gift per kid.

It was really fun getting something in our FE each day. I did feel a little bit like a summer Mrs. Claus going down all the halls with my bag of goodies giving out stuff.

It sounds like you have the pre paid gratuity option. You do not need to tip before leaving the ship since you have pre-paid. You will receive some vouchers for your cabin steward and servers to give out the last night. If I have received exceptional service I will tip extra in cash on the last night as well. Our servers really went above and beyond our last Disney cruise so we tipped them extra, but you are under no obligation to do so.

I would also like to put it out there that it might be time to cap our FE group. I am in the process of ordering FE gifts and don't have a lot of "wiggle room" in my order for new join-ees. What does everyone else think?

Thanks for the tipping clarification. I will bring extra cash, just in case.

I agree with capping the FE group. The ship is sold out. No rooms available at any level. It seams anyone who knows about the DISboards has already checked in.

We are also finalizing our gifts and packaging is preventing any quantity of extra's.

Okay... let's agree to cap the fish extender portion of the spreadsheet one week from now -- We'll close it on Monday, noon eastern time. That way people who only check the board on the weekend will have next weekend to sign on for the FE. If folks want to sign up for the meet and greet, they certainly can do so after that... but designating participation in the fe (adult and/or child), will be closed 11/2. Z'alright?!?

Hi,

Please add us for meet and greet, we had rooom 2652 which had horrid reviews but were able to get moved to 2088 which is where will be.
Can't do the FE, I am just so not creative and between work, kid, hubby, and school am overextended on time at the moment.

There is myself Amy, dh Ray, and ds D'Morea (age 12).

This is only our 2nd cruise and ds first cruise.

Has anyone had any luck with Atlantis alternative booking as CS is full? Do you think any day passes will be available at resort? DCL treats son as adult but Atlantis as a kid. Makes a huge cost difference.

Also, has anyone found out what night our Pirate party will be? Hard to figure some things out since our cruise is atypical in GOOD way!

So excited and so ready to go, we are staying at BCV prior to sail for a few days to get back to Disney spirit.

Look forward to meeting everyone !

We fly in on Saturday afternoon...We're heading to MK that day (we got reservations for the fireworks dessert party)....Then we'll do parks Sunday, Mon & Tuesday....Wed, we'll go to AK and leave from there (the busses will pick us up from there)....That's how we did it last time we went on this cruise in 2005. Worked out great.

Thanks!

We're not going to WDW. We are driving up 1 day prior to the cruise and are staying overnight at the Radisson Cape Canaveral. We'll check out the Cocoa Beach area (never been) and have a seafood dinner the night before.

We're flying in on Monday and staying at the Poly for two nights. I am so excited I can hardly stand it!!

Will we be getting any more official information from DCL before the cruise? I thought I read somewhere that there is some more paperwork or something that comes close to the cruise? Any idea? We filled out all of our online paperwork and are ready with those, but didn't know if there was something else I should be watching for.

I can't believe we'll be in Florida in 3 weeks!!

Is anyone else going to WDW too? We are leaving Friday (nov 20) after school and driving to Animal Kingdom Lodge. We are doing parks on Sunday, Monday and Tuesday (still trying to figure out how to do four parks in three days!) Then drive to the ship on Wednesday!

I have my Fish Extender stuff planned! I am so excited about them! I can't wait to get them finished.

I edited post #1 to include a handy link for the fish extenders list/file. I also added Pirate night to the schedule. What night will formal night be?

Shari

I noticed in your signature that you had stayed at the AKL back in 2009. Can you recomend a good 1 BR Savahna View location in Kidani? What floor, how far from lobby and which direction? Towards Jambo house or the swimming pool?

I am sending an email to the scheduling manager with my preference. Looking for a quiet location away from elevators and vending, but easily accesable from lobby.

My sister, BIL and I stayed at Kidani Village after the DVC member cruise, September, 2009.

The swimming pool is located right across from the lobby outside the front door. We stayed at the very end of the resort and had to walk for miles as we did not have a car. The WDW bus only makes one stop, right outside the lobby.

We were on the top floor in a one bedroom. If you have smaller children, you may like a lower floor so they are on same level as animals, but we liked overlooking the whole savannah.

I'm looking at booking this cruise today or tomorrow with DVC using points to surprise my 17 yr. old daughter for Thanksgiving.

I've just booked our flights using FF miles. We fly in on the evening of the 23rd and then will go to parks on the 24th and then head to the Wonder on the 25th Nov.

I've cruised alot on DCL. In fact, I think this is my 24th DCL cruise and my daughters 12th or so. I actually like the longer cruises better, but drill team messes up my schedule alot. My daughter will be in college next year, so hopefully our travelling will get easier. In fact just booked the back to back on the Disney Dream for the inaugural Jan. 26, 2011 and then Jan. 30, 2011.

I'll check the lists out on page 1. Don't want to crash the party, since we are such latecomers.

Again, this could have changed from 2005, but I saw the question asked about when "formal" night was going to be. Here's the dress code for the main dining rooms from 2005 Thanksgiving Wonder Cruise:

Wednesday: "casual" (no shorts, swimwear or tank tops)

Thursday (Thanksgiving) was "Semi Formal" (no shorts, swimwear or tank tops)

Friday: "Tropical or Pirate attire (no shirts, swimwear or tank tops)

Saturday night was "cruise casual" (no shorts, swimwear or tank tops)

Again....it is from 2005...so take it for what it's worth.

We decided to book the Atlantis Dolphin Cay and Adventure... so I'm hoping the weather cooperates with that decision! Brrr... it may be cold in that there water that time of year! But in the spirit of we may only come this way but once, we decided to book it now. Fingers crossed for warm sunny skies and warm, lovely water!

We also booked Paolo for Friday night. Please don't tell me that will be Pirate Night! Does anyone know for sure, as our itinerary is out of the usual order of things on a 4-night?

Everyone getting excited?? We sure are! The FE that we ordered trhough ebay came and is hanging in our kitchen... so the countdown is in full swing at our house!

We are also planning Altantis but waiting to we get there and trying for day passes for Aquaventure or the Dig as DCL doubles the price for age 12 and 1/2 price at Atlantis on day pass is avail (still a kid per Atlantis but DL charges as an adult:confused3)

We have Palo booked for Friday as well but will change if it turns out be Pirate night, don't want to miss that and we already booked the Palo brunch too just in case. And Thurs is not an option on holiday when you have your child with you.

Where do u go once on board to change dining and when/ how do you get your dining rotation?

So excited, we are staying at BCV Saturday night through Wedn before leaving. Planning to 1 Day Plus tickets to do DHS, DQ, and BB. Our son has not got to do the "extras" so we thought we would do this year. Also, planning Cirque this year.

So much fun to plan, so much to do.

We are also coming back and doing US/IOA after the cruise and I still have NOT arragned transportation back. So much to do and time is running out.

Any suggestions for transfers back to US/IOA?

Pirate night is Friday evening.

Looking at the posted Navagators (DCL's daily event calander). Dining changes can be made at Wavebands begining at areound 1:00. Lines do form and it is first come first serve.

Dining rotation is issued with your Key To the World (aka room key) when you check in at Port Canaveral. There will be a code on the card. For example "APPT" would mean Animators Pallate, Parrot Cay, Parrot Cay, Tritons.

For the return trip I have rented a car form Budget Rental. They have a bus that pickes up from Port Canaveral and takes you to their rental location a few miles down the road. The drive is only 1 hour back to Orlando.

Full Size - 4 door for around $50.00 for one way 1 day rental. Discount / offer code S190554. (not sure if code is still valid, but it's worth a try)

According to the internet reservation system there are no rooms available at any catagory. They do not even offer it as an optional cruise for November.

I tried calling a few weeks back to change our room asignment but there were only three catagory 10 and one catagory 4 available back then.

There is a new Disney movie that opens Thanksgiving Day and I'm sure they will show on the ship. It is Old Dogs with John Travolta, Robins Williams and others. I love the trailer that's been on. The one guy singing "I'm All Out of Love" is just hilarious.

I just booked this last Monday on the cruise also for my daughter and I. Used DVC points. There were staterooms available in alot of categories. We are in 6019, cat. 11.

Last night my daughter and I were watching the DCL Houseparty DVD they sent me and we were talking about our "next cruise". I told her it was gonna be so hard waiting til June 5th of next year to get on the Magic. She agreed and said next time she was on the ship she wouldn't be a kid anymore and she would be able to go to the adult clubs and Palo. She was a little disappointed she wasn't going to be able to go to Aloft anymore with teenagers.

Little does she know that in 19 days we will be on the Wonder!

All she knows is that we are leaving Salt Lake City on the 23rd and returning on the 29th. It's a surprise destination trip. We are staying at Saratoga Springs on Monday and Tuesday night. When we get there, she will think we are going on a cruise, but then I'll tell her that won't happen until Thursday if we are. Then I'll mess with her mind when we check out on Wednesday morning and she "knows" the ship doesn't sail until the next day!

Her only condition for her surprise trip was that she said she had to have turkey and yams for Thanksgiving Day. I told her I could arrange that, no problem!

We leave a week from Saturday (doing 4 days in the park before the cruise), so we'll probably get all packed this weekend! My sister just got back from DW, so I am really ready to go after hearing her talk!

We've made a red/yellow/black paper "countdown" chain, and the girls are tearing off a link each day so we've started our countdown to the departure!

Working on the FE gifts. Should have them done tomarrow.

Haven't started on FE assembly. Still trying to decide of fabric color and the pictures the kids want. They keep changing their minds. It is time for that executive decision and picking one for each.

We have some cloths set aside and will try and pack this weekend. We leave Thursday the 19th for 5 days at WDW before the cruise. Our first DVC visit and staying at the AKL Kidani.

The kids are getting excited. We downloaded a countdown timer from the DVC web site and they race to the computer to check on how many days remain before we leave.

7 days and counting. :cool1: :yay: :woohoo:

Our update from here...

The FE has been hanging in our kitchen for a couple of weeks... now I just have to remember to pack it when the time comes!

FE gifts were set this past weekend. They may well scuttle my plans to do an entirely carry-on wheel-aboard trip... They take up so much room that, with the FE itself, and a couple of door magnets (oh, yes indeed-y we're going Disney all the way on this), I am slowly realizing that the three of us just wheeling aboard our things is a bit of fantasy.

I've printed smart looking nametags for the Meet & Greet for all who indicated they were participating and made smart looking ones with no name for those who will join us (DO COME IF YOU CAN).

This is all sounding like I'm a bit too into this... but I still do the full-time job/full-time mom/full-time wife thing so this cruise really isn't as front-and-center in my attention as it may sound.;)

This weekend will see me laying out clothes, putting many back ("yup, there's Maggie with that same outfit on again"), adding a sweater and fleece with the bathing suit, lather, rinse and repeat for DH and DS.

We are all building in our excitement and it's undeniable that we'll be making some great memories while on this trip.

Happy Prepping, All! Maggie:flower3:

Sorry folks, but we are going casual.

For dinners I am bringing 1 pair of nice black rayon type shorts and a short black swooishy skirt. Probably will wear the skirt - but I can't decide so I am bringing both (I hate to do this as I HATE to overpack). For tops, 1 tropical but nice shirt, 2 sparkly type Mickey tops, and 1 black pirate shirt that I found after Halloween at Target (I am gonna dress it up with some chunky silver jewelry). And for shoes I have black flats.

Hubby is not bringing jacket or tie - just a couple of nice dress shirts, 1 tropical shirt with collar and matching black pirate shirt as mentioned above.

I label my FE gifts and find that on my last cruise most dis'ers labeled theirs as well.

I still have a few more things to do for my FE gifts, a little repair to my FE, and door magnet making to do.

My family will be dressed up for formal night, but nothing over the top. I like to dress up on cruise nights and my DD loves her dresses. I also found her a cute pirate costume on clearance for $3.50 that she will be wearing on pirate night and my DH and I have pirate t-shirts that I originally made for the Princess and Pirates Party at MK. Add a pirate necklace, hoop earings and bandanas and we are ready to go.

Work has been super, crazy busy for me and it's my goal to not take my computer with me on this family trip so if you don't see me posting on these boards as much in the next week, that's why.
