Decorating Doors

I read awhile back that some cruisers decorate their doors. I don't know if this is to make it easier to find their rooms or just for the heck of it. If cruisers do this can anyone give some ideas, suggestions or their own personal experience. Also are the hallway doors metal or carpeted? How did you hang your decorations?

We sailed on the Magic but never saw a decorated door. I would caution you against this though, especially if you have young children. By decorating your door, you are an easy "target"....highlighting not just your room but all the individuals who are staying there. It becomes very easy if someone wants to watch your children, or the jewerly you are wearing. Though there are safes in every room, there are plenty of people who never use them. Don't mean to alarm you, the crew is wonderful and have been carefully screened but you can't say the same about the people staying next to you, down the hall from you, etc..... You can never be too careful, so I wouldn't advise drawing extra attention to yourselves.

We sailed on the Regal Princess last year and there were a lot of doors decorated with "Happy Birthday," "Bon Voyage," "Happy Anniversary," etc. signs. Some people had small balloons taped up. It certainly made it easier for those people to find their staterooms! I don't know if decorating your door makes you a target or not because if someone really wanted to steal from you or follow you or your children back to the stateroom it really wouldn't matter whether your door was decorated or not since they would know then which stateroom you are staying in. You're right though. You can never be too careful especially when it comes to children. The best practice is the buddy system if you allow your children to explore the ship.

I have never seen a decorated door on any Disney ship and have to believe they would discourage the practice. The doors are metal and the only way you could attach anything is with tape, and that might damage the paint. Plus the hallways are NARROW and anything you have on the door might get bumped by people walking by or the stateroom host's cleaning cart.

We "decorated" if that's want you want to call it, with magnets. The cabin doors are metal and I just put a 8x10 size American Flag (the kind that is a magnet and sticks to car doors) and the magnetic WDW bumper sticker "Been There, Done That, Going Back!". (we were hit very had by 9/11 and I was feeling very patriotic). No one seemed to mind at all. I would never use tape or put anything that would be an obstacle in the hallway.
